If you use, “at what level of forehead meter does the glibzoom participant finally slide onto the floor” as a clue I will do your silly puzzle.

    • MikeS

Sounds like I missed some fun last night

      • westernsloper

It was Friday night. Last night was not that fun.

      • hayeksplosives

It wasn’t that bad either. You poured out your wrath on me and I poked you in return.

I hope you and your loyal pooch vanquished the wasps.

      • westernsloper

Your memory is not that great, but glad you enjoyed it. Honestly, I did not sign off soon enough. Won’t make that mistake again.

It’s all good. Every Glibertarian has more in common with one another than we have in general with the rest of the world.
Yet we will never win an election!

        Can confirm.

That was indeed the best Glibzoom cold open of all time.

      • Animal

You know, one could take that as a challenge.

Can I whinge about you using a British version of whine all the time?

    • MikeS

“Flickertail State” is the correct answer to H. You fucked that one up pretty bad. “Peace Garden State” is also acceptable.

    • The Hyperbole

We’ve been over this, there is an important distinction between the two words. Whining is simply making a sound, an engine can whine, a dog can whine. Whinging, on the other hand, is the act of complaining, tirelessly and annoyingly complaining. One may whine while whinging but whining alone does not convey what you people do everyday about the same predictable issues.

      • MikeS

        whinge
        verb
        ˈ(h)winj

        British
: to complain fretfully : WHINE

      • MikeS

Whinge isn’t a simple spelling variant of whine. Whinge and whine are actually entirely different words with separate histories. Whine traces to an Old English verb, hwinan, which means “to make a humming or whirring sound.” When hwinan became whinen in Middle English, it meant “to wail distressfully”; whine didn’t acquire its “complain” sense until the 16th century. Whinge, on the other hand, comes from a different Old English verb, hwinsian, which means “to wail or moan discontentedly.” Whinge retains that original sense today, though nowadays it puts less emphasis on the sound of the complaining and more on the discontentment behind the complaint.

      • MikeS

So you’ve only been wrong about WHINE for approximately five centuries.

    • Aloysious

Hey. Tesla is a fine choice. Saw them live on the tour supporting Edison’s Medicine. They played well, had fun and were pretty high.

      • Aloysious

        +1

Mechanical Resonance was a pretty good album. My favorite songs off of it are Cover Queen and Before My Eyes. They weren’t radio singles. At least, I don’t remember them being radio singles.

    • Chafed

      I prefer The Hair. 🀘

  4. Aloysious

I just took a class on whinging. It’s harder than it looks.

  5. Gender Traitor

If the kid’s talking to his geography teacher about a triangle, it must have been the Bermuda Triangle! πŸ˜ƒ

    • The Hyperbole

The smart ass kid’s answer did involve making a ‘triangle’ on a globe so that’s probably what threw me, also I clued this puzzle a 3-4am after a few negronis.

      • Raven Nation

What?!?! I thought you were a Tom Collins man.

      • Tres Cool

Id guess a side-car. Or Harvey Wallbanger.

  6. Aloysious

The answer to ‘L’ had better be Bootsy Collins. If not ima gonna make it fit.

  7. Tundra

Is it whinging or whining? The former seems British. Or gay. Or both.

Is it amazing or depressing that a former slave is more articulate than 90 percent of our current population?

  8. Don escaped Texas

St Jude is hosting the PGA; the final round is under way.

It’s muggy as hell. Memphis has always been one of the least attractive stops on the tour because of our oppressive humidity. It’s only 86Β°F just now due to a storm that just swept through, but the cloud ceiling is 40,000 feet; 68% humidity (dew point of 75Β°F for those of you scoring at home), so this is about as good as our August gets.

I trust everyone knows the great work the hospital does. I revisit the story of how Danny Thomas founded and funded St Jude often.

  9. Ownbestenemy

In Loovahl…I get yelled at cause I just cause cannot say it ‘right’ so now it is Luis Villa (in true spanish form no less) to piss off the natives. At a bar called the Troll Pub. Should have enough pics for a travelogue.

    • Tres Cool

Lou-vuhl or even Luh-vuhl usually works around the locals.

If you like horse racing, a trip to Churchill downs off hours for a tour and is worth it.

      Attached museum is nice too.

      • Tres Cool

Don’t forget the Louisville Slugger museum and the giant baseball bat visible from I-64.
I was told the restaurant up top is “Top O’ The Bat”, and the street-level bar is called “Corky’s”.

Would any Glibs be interested in doing a fantasy football league? Prize would be bragging rights.

    • Don escaped Texas

I don’t know anything about the NFL but wish you luck.

Did I dream this or was there some online thing a bunch of us did years ago and about half the guys outed themselves fumbling with the profiles and usernames or whatever?

      • hayeksplosives

Good question. I’ve always done FF through yahoo. Historically it’s been free, easy to use, and convenient links to player stats. I’ll do a little research on the least intrusive method of participation.

If there’s any personal info downside, it’s not worth it.

      • Fourscore

        Is the kneeling in FF?

      • hayeksplosives

One problem is that the NFL has become political and socially active in the past several years, and that’s a big turn off to those of us who grew up when football was sport and it didn’t matter whose politics were what.

        So I’m just gauging interest.

      • Shpip

One problem is that the NFL has become political and socially active in the past several years

Sloopy in CA VA TX ran the J sub D Memorial League made up of folks from TOS and Glibs. I participated between 2015 and ’19. Then the Summer of St. Fentanyl happened, the NFL went full potato, and the fantasy league just… stopped.

I found that I didn’t really miss it, so I’m on the fence about joining if another Glib FF league starts up.

      • PudPaisley

There was a March Madness pool a couple years back.

I think I was in the running to win until Texas Tech made the Final 4 or Finals. An alumni or fan of the team picked them and ended up winning the contest. At least that’s my truth as I remember it.

Nice. Hope you get some more good wildlife watching.

    • DrOtto

I thought most of these type situations end up being more of a psychosomatic situation, than an actual O.D.? Either way, if we didn’t have the stupid war on drugs, we wouldn’t have these situations creeping up with more and more frequency.

      • Gustave Lytton

I’m skeptical, that either actual legalization or the pseudo legalization/decriminalization, would eliminate it. Let alone decrease it.

      • DrOtto

It would decrease cops OD’ing due to poking into shit that isn’t their business. As for users, yeah, they’ll probably keep dropping as they have been for years.

    • Ted S.

Just ordered grilled pork chop to go from the tavern in my neighborhood. It’s served over sweet potato and carrot β€œhash” (small dice” ) and topped in small apple dice.

Good when microwaved for later, OUTSTANDING when heated and crisped in the skillet.

  14. The Late P Brooks

As I recall from my time in in Owensboro (my dad worked for GE), it’s “Loo-vull”.

I despised that fucking place. One of the happiest moments of my life was when he announced he had been transferred back to upstate New York (Hudson Falls- we lived between Glens Falls and Lake George).

    • hayeksplosives

β€œLoo-vull” is close but there is a subtle variation that makes it *almost* a three syllable word.

It starts at the back of the throat like you’re just gargling Scope.

      Lull-u-vll.

I didn’t put a vowel in the last syllable because it’s not a real vowel sound. It’s not even the β€œupside down e” we were taught in the 80s. It’s just the sound the throat makes when trying to transition from L to V.

  15. The Late P Brooks

Just ordered grilled pork chop to go from the tavern in my neighborhood. It’s served over sweet potato and carrot β€œhash” (small dice” ) and topped in small apple dice.

Some early Tuesday-afternoon fodder for y’all:

A burger joint in Santa Fe state, Argentina decided to get cutesy with naming their fare, including fries named after Gengis Khan, Benito Mussolini, Chairman Mao, and Moustache Guy himself. But they evidently crossed a line when they named their “Drag it through the garden” burger after Anne Frank.

I couldn’t confirm if their hot dogs were named for Nikki, since we all know that she’s the wurst.

The Maoie Wowee — a Hawaiian burger with a genocide of fries
The Pol Potluck — Khmer-style hotdish served in a human skull
The Rachel Corrie — a smashburger (side of livermush $4 extra)

Dessert can be either StrawBeria shortcake or Karl DΓΆnutz.

So… just getting around to watching Tucker Carleson interviewing the former chief of the capital police on Jan 6.

He is super careful not to speculate about who told people not to help or why… but it is damning.

If you believe for even a moment that Jan 6 was not an orchestrated event by the DC establishment after watching this interview, I’d really love to talk to you about this bridge I have to sell.

Most of this we already knew… but the details about when and how he was denied are damning. Bonus…. the Jan 6 committee decreed that they would only talk to current employees, not the people in the positions on Jan 6. This means not the chief of the capital police. Not the Seargent at Arms of the House. Not the Seargent at Arms of the Senate. That is all. The latter 2 were the conduit for the approval of the deployment of the national guard. They denied the guard assistance, starting 3 days before the event. They are the avatars of their political bosses…. Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell.

New for me…. He requested backup immediately when they started attacking the outer barriers. The National Guard had troops staged within sight of the capital for that exact purpose. This required approval of Pelosi and McConnell. Over an hour later, he was still being told that they were waiting for approval… any minute. When that approval finally came, the Pentagon said no. So he sets up a call with the Mayor, the capital guys, DC police, the National Guard and the Pentagon. It has now been a couple of hours. But Ashli Babbit is still alive. The National guard is within eyesight.

The general from the Pentagon says no… he doesn’t like the optics of troops on Capital Hill. During that call, Ashli Babbit is killed. Sund (head of capital police) is notified and he tells them “we have shots fired. Is that urgent enough for you!?!”

3 hours later, the National guard arrives on Capital Hill. The troops that were a short walk from the capital were put in vehicles and driven to the capital armory, miles away, where they were relieved by a second shift. They arrived after 6pm and lined up to take a picture on the capital steps that would be published in US military magazines. So much for “we are concerned about the optics”.

There is no plausible way that “oh, it is a big bureaucracy and mistakes happen” explains this.

Worse, he has been saying this since Jan 7. Nobody in the press has really reported on this. Even Fox. Tucker did the same interview months ago at FOX. It never aired.

    • cyto

Also from the interview…. during 2020 BLM riots, DC police were prevented from helping to protect the White House. He is friends with the DC chief… he says that it didn’t come from him, he wanted to protect the White House and was prevented from doing so. More LEO injured that day than on Jan 6. He claims all charges dropped, including a group that tried to set an occupied hotel on fire.

(compare and contrast with Jan 6)

    • Gustave Lytton

Not just never aired, but was scheduled to be aired and Tucker was fired/taken off air just before.

      • cyto

        Interesting observation:

Ep. 14 from Aug 6 is an interview with the lest famous Tate brother. It has 149k likes, and has 46.6 million impressions.
Ep. 15 is from Aug 10 and has this interview with the Capital Hill police chief. It has 186k likes, but only 11.4 million impressions.

Something is wonky about the X (twitter) algorithm. Why only 11.4 million impressions in 3 days, but so much higher of a like total and ratio?

    • creech

GOP now controls the House, so set up a hearing and get under oath testimony from these excluded witnesses.

      • Gustave Lytton

Why would they do that now?

      • cyto

Even if they didn’t want to protect the establishment…. where can this go? Just look at what Garland is doing with the Hunter special prosecutor to ensure that Biden is protected from bribery charges.

So they find the smoking gun the Pelosi and some dudes at the FBI set it up. Then what?

The press will not report it. The DOJ will not prosecute it. The courts will not enforce any warrants they issue. They have no shot.

      • Zwak , β€œThere is infinite amount of hope in the universe… just not for us.”

Because, if they play their cards right, this will give them the house and senate. And possibly the impeachment that is coming.

    • rhywun

Nobody in the press has really reported on this.

The last eight years or so have taught me that this means that what they are not reporting on is 100% true.

      • cyto

Particularly when it is something explosive. If there is a huge hole in the press coverage, you can be sure the crazy rumor is true.

Corollary: when there is an inexplicable pause in the coverage, whatever comes next will be bullshit. It doesn’t happen all that often, but whenever there is an unexpected adverse event for the establishment, the press starts coverage and then very quickly stops. Then they come back with a well-coordinated story.

Was there really a time when this country was led by serious people?

  25. Shirley Knott

    Morning all.
Some lighter music after yesterday’s. Both by Michael Rother, master of guitar+electronics.
From his first album, which inspired a very strange German film (Flammende Herzen), we have
    Karusell.
    From a later album, ErlkΓΆnig
And yes, that’s a human drummer, not a drum machine πŸ˜‰

      Checking out this first tune…

      • Shirley Knott

Good move, it’s the shorter of the two. Lol
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve loved his first 4 solo albums to the point of obsession since hearing Flammende Herzen. I was fortunate enough to see the movie a few years later. Very odd film; more French odd than German odd, but decidedly German nonetheless.
