Beard Meats Food – Guy from Leeds UK does food challenges, a la “Man vs. Food”, but with a better personality.

Captain Steven Markovich – this is a retread from a previous article, because he deserves way more than the 15k subscribers he has. One of his lines: “A318 – short, stumpy, but gets the job done, ifyouknowhatimean.”

Ryan Hall, Y’all – Weather nerd. He also does livestreams of severe weather with a team of chasers. Detailed nerdy forecasts. Lots of disaster relief charitable work.

Anna Cramling – cute Swedish young lady plays chess

Boone Bake – ASMR baking channel with very little baking. Most of her stuff uses gelatin, hence “very little baking”. I have modified a couple of her recipes and they are delicious!

CLR Bruce Rivers – MN criminal lawyer reacts to various videos of and about criminals. His motto is “stop self-snitching”, he has a revolver on his desk next to him during his videos, and even his ad reads are funny.

DEYOCLUB – another of the growing scambaiting YouTube community. Canadian-LatinO guy baits scammers with funny accents.

    Today, in fatuous nonsense

The shift to remote work during the pandemic has not only changed our daily routines but also had profound effects on our brains. The quiet, controlled environment of home offices has conditioned us to work in silence, free from the constant hum of office chatter, ringing phones, and clattering keyboards. This shift has made us more susceptible to distractions when we return to the traditional office environment.

The brain is a highly adaptable organ, constantly changing in response to our environment and behavior, a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity. When we work from home, our brains adapt to the quieter, less distracting environment. We become more attuned to the subtle sounds of our home surroundings—the hum of the refrigerator, the ticking of a clock, the chirping of birds outside the window. These sounds become the backdrop of our workday, and our brains learn to tune them out, allowing us to focus on our tasks.

However, this adaptation comes with a trade-off. As we become more accustomed to the quiet of home, our ability to filter out the louder, more varied noises of the office environment weakens. Our brains, conditioned for the quiet of home, struggle to adjust.

Over the past five quarters, we’ve witnessed a concerning trend: a steady decrease in productivity. While there are undoubtedly multiple factors at play, one major culprit stands out—the cacophony of the office environment that accompanies the return to the office.

Another laptop mandarin who apparently has never actually worked in the real world.

Being there is not optional for the vast majority of people.

Tell me again how this wasn’t a land grab?

    • The Other Kevin

Inevitably, they will have to release an official number of people who have died, because right now there are people doing the math and they will figure it out. My guess is a lot of this has to do with keeping people out of the fire zone so they can’t see how bad it was, and preparing for a lot of anger and violence when the truth comes out.

      • Sean

preparing for a lot of anger and violence when the truth comes out.

I admit I’m pretty hooked on 3dbotmaker’s die cast racing videos.

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjN5K3IYZgz-vCWhI_DD01A

He started out running a company on the side that 3d printed accessories for die cast car racing, and started to demo his products in videos. Then he started adding ‘commentary’ to the races he’d video. Then that got tons of views because it gave the races a sense of realism. So he quit his old job, kept the 3-d printing as a side gig, and races cars on YouTube. This guy managed to turn racing die cast cars in his one-car garage into a full time job.

Current labor code has this “(12)Provisions prohibiting the employer from maintaining policies that require employees who are not dedicated safety personnel to confront active shooters or suspected shoplifters.” and it is struck from the new proposed labor code.

      Is this real?

I hope so: it is vital that California be allowed to aggressively run its course and provide a cautionary tale to centrists in the other 49.

I was talking to a Californian who had moved to Nashville who was ashamed of the problems back home but did not deny voting for Jerry Brown: any innocent man would have been screaming his denials. I don’t mind his moving here, but it would suit me if his exit visa from California cost $5,000 for everyone in his family, their fair share of the nonsense that they created and enjoyed before skipping out on the implosion.

NY does you one better (not the article if from the local NPR station:

      https://www.wamc.org/news/2023-07-28/albany-county-da-soares-airs-gripes-with-bail-reforms-before-albany-county-legislature

s an example, his office cites a case where two teens were arrested driving a Porsche in the area of Washington Avenue in the city of Albany on October 14th, just before 9 p.m..

Police say they recovered a loaded 9mm Glock, a .40 caliber Glock, as well as a 50 round drum style magazine and two 30 round magazines.

The teens were both charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and 4 counts of criminal possession of a weapon for large capacity ammunition feeding devices.

Both teens were arraigned and released to their parents.

“What is remarkable in our analysis of the cases that have come since 2018, to the present, is that we now live in a state that says a young person at the age of 16 apprehended three times with a loaded firearm in 18 months, that is defined by New York State law as ‘not extraordinary,'” said Soares. “When Craig Apple has a detail in West Hill, and his people pull over a vehicle with two teenagers on their way to a drive by with two illegal firearms with a capacity of over 100 rounds, and those individuals get to go back home and have breakfast with their families, the system is broke.”

He’s also claimed that it was easy to ID the kids in this case since they were wearing an ankle monitor when arrested. HOWEVER, he is a lying sack of shit that claimed that the J6 protestors had formed hunter-killer squads, so nothing he says can be assumed to be true.

  24. The Late P Brooks

According o Sean’s link (before it locked up on me), that California law is supposed to keep managers from -requiring- employees to confront or forcibly apprehend shoplifters. For some reason, I doubt this is a truly widespread problem. I did not see a penalty for voluntarily doing so, as far as I got.

Still, WTF, California? Are you seriously intent on driving private businesses out?

    • Zwak , “There is infinite amount of hope in the universe… just not for us.”

That might, might be the reasoning behind the writing, but thenot logic of where it leads is; no small business owner shall be allowed to attempt to stop a theft in process.

Rooftop Koreans, Sihk shop owners. fuck all you all.

Bad news from Mrs. TOK, her roller derby league has gone back to mandating masks at practice. Checking out the stats, our county has a rolling 7-day average of 10 cases, and the county where they hold practice has 28 cases. The league skews petty far left, so not totally surprised but I feel bad for Mrs. TOK. She refuses to skate with a mask on so she won’t be at practice for now. She has talked to a few other teammates, and they’re just as pissed, so we’ll see if this sticks.

    • KK, Non-Man

Good for the Mrs. for standing firm. They want to self-destruct a sport that is in the middle of making a big comeback? Fuck em.

She is a stronger person than I was. I got the J&J so I could play my sport. She was retired, but delayed coming back until they dropped the vax and mask mandates the first time.

Roller derby did take a big hit from Covid, they shut down completely for over a year. Some leagues closed down and some are still trying to get back to where they were. She’s lucky, for the first time her team has enough to field three teams.
