The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock
Short Film: Buzz Kill
Most of you already know this is a parody of movies like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. What you may not know is this is Lou Costello’s final film. No Abbott to call for. Abbott and Costello had dissolved their partnership in 1957 and this was to be the first post-partnership film for Costello. Costello’s co star Dorothy Provine was a popular television actress, who previously starred in some “bad teenager” films, notably Riot in Juvenile Prison and Live Fast, Die Young. Here she is as wholesome as a lamb.
Costello died in 1959 of a heart attack, aged 52. The 30 Bride of Candy Rock was released 7 months later, posthumously. It’s almost like a Disney parody of popular monster films. It reminds me of the last few movies of the Three Stooges, like Have Rocket, Will Travel. His widow clearly disliked this film and joked joked that the film release would’ve filled him anyway. Regardless, this film has had a long life post-release. It became a favorite on underground circuits where freaks like me would see it in old movie theaters. Some footage from it was used by Neil Finn (of Split Enz and Crowded House, etc..) his his video She Will Have Her Way.
We have a short window to watch this before whoever owns it puts it back in the vault. I hope you enjoy it. You are a part of a very small group of people who have ever watched it. So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! Next week, I am in the mood for some trash. Some Street Trash. Let get relevant!

First in…
So First in herre…
So First in…
I was like, Firstatious ass bodacious
Firstatious, tryin to show faces
Its gettin First in here (so First)
So take off all your clothes
I am gettin so First, I wanna take my clothes off
Well Firsted, sir.
I figured you’d be watching football. Is this a drive by?
I really don’t watch much football these days, especially not Thursday night football on Amazon. Even though I have access.
Fascinating.
I heard that in Spock’s voice.
I’ve been told -repeatedly- that firsting on an article is not an actual First.
Obviously, you are a poser.
Go contemplate your failure on the Tree Of Seconds.
If you wanna get to Firsthalla, gotta D-I-E
You gotta put on your coat and T-I-E
Wanna get the First out of the L-O-G
You gotta make a cold motion like M-I-K-E
Like M-I-K-E
Like M-I-K-E
Yeah
“…. would’ve filled him anyway….”
Damn. It should say killed. Can it get fixed for posterity?
Happy Earth Wind and Fire Day! 🙂
I won’t be watching this because Giants.
Thursday night football is stupid, and even more stupid now that it’s on Amazon.

The picture he kissed was different than the one hanging on the wall.
The list of gaffes on this film was substantial on IMDB. I think it was rushed. Might have been Costello’s fault, he may have wanted to get a solo movie out there ASAP.

Ah. I am lost in multiple activities.
Also, I’m very reassured.
It’s 1,000 miles from Hawaii. And no mention if any native Hawaiians were among the US dead.
Deep-sea explorers captured the first ever photos of a long-lost Japanese shipwreck from World War II’s Battle of Midway
Perhaps they should be focusing on protocols around Lahaina instead
Did something happen there?
I know Biden mentioned something about $20bn. Was that going there?
It must be super secret since the governor says no one can take pictures.
What posers. This was an invasion force that was trying to take over a Hawaiian island. They should have not played into the hawaiian cultural BS.
There was one small Japanese invasion of Hawaii before June 1942.

Wait a minute, I was told that the imprisonment of issei and nisei had no basis at all.
So you’re implying that a valid rationale for putting thousands of American citizens in internment camps – on the Mainland, but not in Hawaii – is because three people of a similar ethnic background living thousands of miles away in Hawaii committed treason?
What could go wrong with that policy?

Having a tall water here. Just cleaned out the garage, and started resetting all the rock pavers that make up my small patio.
I popped into Kroger on my way from the airport to procure multiple Tall Cans™.

OZZY OSBOURNE – “Mr. Crowley” 1981 (Live Video)
Losing Randy Rhoads is such a sad thing for music.
Amen.
Those first two Ozzy albums with Randy was some of the first music I got into, and I still love those albums to this day. Randy will always be one of my favorite guitarists.
A few years back I went to Geoff Tate’s 25th anniversary show of Operation Mind Crime. Rudy Sarzo and his brother were playing bass and guitar in the band. I had a couple good chuckles because they were still dressing like in this video and doing the 80’s hair band poses on stage.
I loved Operation Mind Crime.
That and Empire are among my favorite albums.
Empire is on my all-time list. So good.
Blizzard of Ozz was on repeat when I was around 15. What a great time.
🤘🏻🤘🏻
So great.
Ooo, the bassist in the red jumpsuit, stylin’!
Not enough chest hair.
Every time I drive down to Orlando, I pass right by the crash site. Hard not to shake my head at the stupidity of that incident.
Fuckin’ Bonanzas were tricky enough to fly. Hot-dogging in one was unconscionable.
‘Every time I drive down to Orlando, I pass right by the crash site.’
And then you pass by where the plane crashed too?
(Orlando traffic sucks and someone always crashes)

Haha. This small Army group on war games in the southwest has a direct radio link to a 3-star at the Pentagon.
And that’s what you are worried is unrealistic?
Ha! Fair point.
Yeah. Who thought up the robot companion? Just wretched.

So would Cannibal! The Musical!
Didn’t even reference Robin Williams in that piece? That joke/idea has been around since the 90s at least

I wrote a 1,500 word sci-fi story this evening in about an hour and half. That’s a pretty good pace. I find that once I have a premise, it’s easy to write the rest of the story.

I’ve honed the art of pooping out movie posts like a man after a hot dog eating contest. That is my superpower.
…and you are loved, because of that.
Nice video 🎵
I did not know that guy had a solo career – I love Split Enz so much.
I was surprised too. I learn so much when I do these posts.
Glib Poll: Best movie with the worst ending.
My nomination is Blazing Saddles with Monty Python and the Holy Grail as a close runner up.
2001: A Space Odyssey
👍
Big Man Japan. The ending is total ass. Otherwise such an awesome film.

Mixed emotions on Blazing Saddles – breaking the 4th wall was hilarious – the very, very end was maybe less than satisfying, but still wouldn’t have gotten there otherwise.
The French Mistake scene is just so great.
“Piss on you! I work for Mel Brooks!”
“I’m parked over by the commisary”
“Sounds like steam escaping.”
Prancing around like a bunch of Kansas City faggots!
Wrong scene, but still one of my all-time favorite lines.
Oh, I know. But it fit.
I still want to drop that line on Mojeaux when the subject of the Chiefs comes up, but it seems gratuitous. Hilarious, but gratuitous.
I don’t know if I’d call it gratuitous. I mean, yeah…I guess most of us here are of the cohort that has seen it. But I think it’s always worth quoting the classics. Keeps them relevant.
Dude, it’s football. Trash talking is 90% of the game. Or are you showing me your delated set of balls
Oh, I would, I just need to time it right so they’re literally doing some stupid touchdown dance; next time they’re on in primetime, perhaps.
This scene has the amazing Dom DeLuise yelling at his dancers, “Now Watch. Me. Faggots!” as he demonstrates the proper way to do the French Mistake.
Throw out your hands, stick out your tush
Hands on your hips, give them a push
You’ll be surprised you’re doing the French Mistake
Voilà!

SiriusXM DJ Keith Roth has a great Mel Brooks story he tells every so often. I’ll try and repeat it as he tells it:
That’s fantastic.
Mel Brooks adjacent – I love My Favorite Year.
Ooh, that’s a good one. Peter O’Toole, right?
Yep, just fantastic.
“He’s plastered!”
“So are some of the finest erections in Europe.”

Trump Says There Are ‘Very Fine People On Both Sides’ Of Baby Murder Issue
Real Trump quotes:
He’s not wrong.
Broken piece of shit clock.
Still better than any Dem.
Good christ. That’s your bar?
He was a fucking Dem until he figured out he had a better chance of winning as a Rep.
That’s not my bar. That’s the country’s bar.
If Hillary won, she’d be President now, we’d have four commies on the Supreme Court, if wasn’t leveled by a Russian MIRV.
None of that has any bearing on who should be the next president.
I think it was more about hating Obama . His almost pathological hate of that guy is probably the best argument that he is a little racist because it isn’t like Trump really has any principles over policies.
‘None of that has any bearing on who should be the next president.’
Uh… if not who the people want or the actual effect of the president on the country, what SHOULD decide who gets to be president?
Yeah, Trump isn’t perfect, but don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Is he German? I will never understand his random capitalization of words.
“Trump” is definitely German. But, him being so fucking old* likely has more to do with it.
*no offense meant to any Glibs his age
I don’t think that’s the original family name.
Anyway, he’s Presbyterian, so somebody was Scott.
Turns out he’s been lying about it for years. Shocking.
Well, that sucked.
The Giants game, not the movie.
How was the movie?
You mean the Niners game? I thought it was pretty good
that comment is a 10.
Congratulations.
Very cool write-up,RJ!
I’m sure I’d never stumbled over the flick itself—or if I did, I doubt I’d given it a second glance.
Everything, everyone has a story.
Some random thoughts on male reproductive strategies:
1.Firstborns are on average significantly higher achieving than their later born siblings. Since females can only have a single first born does this imply a benefit to finding nonparous females to mate with? I haven’t seen a definitive explanation for the birth order effect*, but it does raise interesting questions about the best reproductive strategy for males at the individual level. (i.e. to find lots of nonparous females, mate, and escape. I of course do not advocate this, and it is only one data point. We will address the ‘escape’ portion below)
2. Children that have fathers perform better over a wide range of measures, so being a father to your children will theoretically improve their reproductive chances- either by finding a better mate (female children) or finding a (or multiple) mate(s) at all (male children). Since women seek high status men and high status men generally prefer higher status women, increasing the value of your children results in a better match and better genetics down the line. Fitness of your progeny on down the line can thus be improved by being a good father. Modern times throws a wrench in this as high-value people (increased education in particular) actually decreases evolutionary fitness (fewer children), whereas females born in a family without a father reach puberty sooner and have children younger. I think the fitness of fatherless children was probably much lower in the past when premature death was much more likely.
3. 1 & 2 above may imply that the ideal individual reproductive strategy across time is multiple long-term relationships to the extent the male is able to provide for all the individuals in the family. This can break down at the societal level if there are too many unmarried males as this is commonly understood to cause social issues that might affect the fitness of the society. Though one does begin to question this hypothesis in the modern day as the number of unmarrieds/unattached men continues to rise without severe negative effects (revolt, etc.).
*Undivided attention during infancy may be the biggest explanation, or differences in temperament, perhaps related to confidence. Seen too many ignorant but confident people be successful lately, so that may just be my bias. Maternal age is another potential explanation, younger mothers give birth to healthier children, being healthy improves all sorts of outcomes, including IQ which is broadly predictive of life-success.
What made me start thinking about this…
Small women are cute and fun, but realistically tall people do better on average (again, healthy bias?) so you should try to wed a taller female (all else equal) to improve your reproductive success as a man.
Reproductive success is about the number of offspring, not about how much money one makes. Given the populations of China and India, a completely different argument could be made.
Assuming such an aspie mating algorithm is how one would want to proceed, rather than, “who do I actually like best”?
I’d check with China about this. Still not convinced their demographic breakdown isn’t a ticking time bomb.
It’s friday! Wake up and kick some ass!

Good morning, Beau, Sean, Lack, and Bob Bob! Greetings from Paradise! Michigan, that is, but they’re not wrong. Our hotel room balcony is just a few yards from an apparent short cliff that goes down to Superior/Gitche Gumee/Shining Big Sea Water. Beau, as delightful as I’m sure your musical selections are this morning, for now I think I’m just going to listen to the waves of this mighty inland sea as pink light starts to creep into the sky above the water. Also, is it Venus that’s the morning star in the east?
Morning.

I’m sorry. I’m sure it isn’t helping that Imgur apparently thinks sunrise over Lake Superior is somehow sexual in nature.
No worries. Gitche Gumee/Shining Big Sea Water will appear in a future music selection ;->
And just for the record, there may be (are) bits of Paradise in MI, but it’s got an over abundance of Hell, above and beyond the cute little town with that name.
I suppose I should probably be ashamed that I’m reminded of this Mad Magazine parody of “The Song of Hiawatha” I read in a Mad mass market paperback (Frontier Mad?) my parents had when I was a kid.
But I’m not.

“This one time, on the way to band camp… “
All snark aside, that’s pretty sad.
I frequently drive that stretch of I-84 on the way to Scranton. There are several points where I think, “Hmm, long way down, it would really suck to wander off the road right here”.
I have coworkers on my team that grew up in Orange County and know where it happened.
Bus was coming from Long Island. Different set of coworkers grew around where the band was based.
It was the discussion of the afternoon news.
I know it’s the wee hours of the morning for most of you but it’s mid-day for me and I’m stuck at an airport…..so I’m gonna do some brain-linty posting.
I was reflecting on wokeness I’ve personally witnesses in the last year:
-signs at the Marcus Whitman mission disclaiming the white supremacist viewpoint their interpretive signs reflected and a promise to change them in the near future. (Evidentially pointing out where their cider house sat is deeply problematic)
-A giant, rambling, breathless disclaimer before you enter the local history museum in Nelson, BC about the terrible racism you are about to read in the Native American section (all of which was respectful of kootenai culture).
-the QUILTBAG parade that ruined my Roman ruins sight seeing day in Trier.
-the inevitability of having to wade through dozens of “inclusive” books written from Queer ideologues every time I’m dumb enough to step into a book store.
All in all I’m blessed that I haven’t had to deal with it in a non-superficial way. When my wife’s QUILTBAG cousin and chuckhole husband comes for 10 days at Christmas however….
Oh….and watching an other kin at work use the women’s locker room and for the first time feeling like maybe those on the right freaking out about it a few years ago had a better point than I first gave them credit.
SlIpPeRy SlOpE iS a FaLlAcY
Noticing the direction things are going (and even a several years ago, things people were saying) is not a fallacy…
The real problem is we’ve lost all cultural confidence which makes such weird transgressions of our norms seem allowable, all while self flagellating. This has been in the making since my childhood and before. ‘We’ will apply cultural relativism (every culture is equally valid) to everywhere and everyone but ourselves. It is a big part of why the conservative pushback on things like this have been so unsuccessful. Most conservative arguments fall back on ‘this is what we’ve always done, thus it is good’, but if ‘what was always done’ is actually bad and evil, that doesn’t work.
The reason people can’t see that our past cultural practices were right and correct is because they were brainwashed in their youth that the country did so many horrible things in the past. Technically, (and any libertarian should agree) this is true. If at the same time, all other cultures are at least as valid as ours AND we don’t actually apply cultural relativism to our own past (our past societies were in every case better than the competing societies, not just in outcomes but actual morally better too) there is no defense of the greatest civilization to ever exist because it both wasn’t perfect and at one point (no longer!) pushed it’s culture and values out to the world (which is in itself evil- since diversity is inherently a good thing, no evidence needed, or rather one must ignore a lot of evidence to the contrary).
Good stuff. Totally agree. I used to think the libertarian to alt-right pipeline was a canard but it’s making a lot more sense to me (depending on how you define ‘alt-right’). We’re two generations (at least) into producing CS Lewis’ Men without Chests and are reaping (or about to reap) what we’ve sewn.
I mean it is, and more importantly it will give you the wrong answer when you misidentify the principle driving the trend.
‘ every time I’m dumb enough to step into a book store.’
That IS all on you. 😉
‘When my wife’s QUILTBAG cousin and chuckhole husband comes for 10 days at Christmas however….’
Is a chuckhole some kind of bonus hole or something?
Chuckle Fuck + Asshole?
That would be a pretty accurate way to describe him….minus the chuckle. He’s one of the most humorless, tiresome people I’ve ever met.
Can’t wait for the revisionist signs to appear at Auschwitz disclaiming the anti Nazi signage there.
Fact Check: “Work will not, in fact, set you free.”
Fact Check Check: “False.”
Fact Check Check Check: “More supporting evidence required.”
Everything bad that ever happened was Nazis or Proto-nazism. This is known.
Lol…. I just realized “cuckhold” autocorrects to “chuckhole”….now I’m curious as to what the hell a chuckhole is…
Aaaaand….Brooksed!!!
Chuckle Fuck + Asshole, obviously.
cuckold is what you meant? I guess that explains a question that popped into my head- ‘how is a QUILTy woman married to a man?’
I would be pretty humorless if my wife was banging other people either and my religion told me I had to accept that too.
All I know is she bangs other otherkins….genders remain a assumed because I don’t give a shit

Too much deep thinking too early on a friday morning.
I want to go back to bed, but I’m already dressed and at the office. If I left or slept in my cube, someone would notice.
With any luck, at work, one usually doesn’t have to think too deeply. In fact, doing so is often counterproductive.

Good morning, ‘patzie!
I happily embrace my reprobation.
Still on the lake?
Yes, sir. (See quick-and-dirty linked photo above. That view is now gone, as the fog has rolled in.) Last morning on Superior. Tomorrow morning on Huron, then just crashing in suburban Toledo before arriving home Sunday.

Has anyone had an experience when watching/listening to evidence supposedly in support of a position you already hold has actually made you more skeptical of that position?
In this case, it’s not political, it’s a discussion of the genetic evidence of Polynesian and PreColumbian American contact. As they were going through the evectuvie summary version of the paper, I started going “What makes you assert that is indicative of contact?” “How do you rule out an alternative common ancestor?” and questions like that.
I suspect the problem is the oversimplification of results for general distribution, rather than anything else.
I suspect the problem is the oversimplification of results for general distribution, rather than anything else.
This happens in data analysis, sort of. We throw away outliers to smooth the data, then aggregate and aggregate. I’m not a statistician but these (necessary?) operations can lose valuable, real information. Planned economies suffer from this loss of information.
Well the NYP is all in on Ukraine.
Kevin McCarthy made a huge mistake in dissing Ukraine’s Zelensky
Seems reasonable to me to keep the (not near enough) anti war Team Red placated.
Also I’d like to take this opportunity to declare my hatred for airlines. If you fucks hadn’t started charging everyone for checked bags you wouldn’t have overcrowding in the cabin. If you didn’t have overcrowding in the cabin you wouldn’t have made me check my carry on. If you hadn’t made me check my carry on you wouldn’t have made me arrive 4 hours before my bag. If I hadn’t had to wait around 4 hours for my bag I could have spent 4 hours doing literally anything else.
Has travel always sucked this bad or am I just getting older and grumpier?
It sucked, but the 90s was when we got on our current road.
And after 9/11 we got the security theater as an opener.
Has travel always sucked this bad or am I just getting older and grumpier?
Why not both?
Up until this year if you’d have asked me what my favorite thing to do was I’d probably have said travel. Seems like every time I fly the ass pain seems less and less worth it. That and the creeping monoculture that is the west makes everything seem cheap, commercial and inauthentic. New places and people ain’t what it used to be.

The anti-vaccine movement is on the rise. The White House is at a loss over what to do about it.
I wonder how the hell we got here…
Anti-vaccine sounds so much nastier than pro-freedom.
Did the Biden Administration ever actually vow to restore faith in public health? That would imply they are admitting that things may have happened to diminish that faith…
