Here we are on another Monday Afternoon, just like the ones that came before it. My neighbors across the street got to see USF hold Alabama to a game that was tied at the half, and well into the third quarter. I don’t know if anyone is unbeatable this year, but my wife has some distinct thoughts on FSU fucking around and how they’re going to find out. I’m a bit more calm. Boston College has always been jealous that they have an inferior red/gold scheme, and always come hard for the ‘Noles. And that’s about all we did this weekend. I fixed a washing machine. Well, technically I fixed my fix since the drive belt came off. But it washes now, and that’s all that matters!
I know everyone thinks they want a bacteria that lives in salt water and eats the most common type of plastic, but the downside potential is high. Like, “oh shit half the life preservers in the world are suddenly in a compromised state” bad.
Donald Trump, technically correct and entirely missing the point.
You think Chicago PD can take Florida Man? DeSantis tries to recruit them. We don’t have enough assholes we have to import them? That doesn’t seem right.
Maybe he just identifies as a woman, you shitlords!
Just a fun song for a monday.
Did you use the right kind of belt?
You mean just taking an old one that’s too small for my waist won’t work?
I once tried to match up a washing machine belt at an auto parts store, and was told that doesn’t work.

They do? It’s mostly that countries in Asia just need to stop dumping that shit.
Trump criticizing Florida so much on everything from abortion to COVID performance makes me think he might be as retarded as Biden-still better though but goddamn do I wish we had better choices (who could win).
Damn skippy.
What does it matter, people that wanted nothing to do with the vaxes are still backing the guy who thinks it was his great success. It’s bizarro-world.
Pertinent
True enough for me. If it’s down to these two, fuck voting.
It’s at the point where I can’t even remember what the arguments FOR democracy actually are.
I had an argument with someone in NH who supports Trump but hates DeSantis.
DeSantis locked Florida down initially, but saw the light. DeSantis dropped lockdowns and worked against them.
This guy hates DeSantis because he locked down Florida and never told people to not get the vax. Trump is not responsible for anything lockdown related and Operation Warp speed was a brilliant plan to shift the country against lockdowns.
Pretzel logic.
Yeah, what do you say to that but “truly you have a dizzying intellect”?
Yeah — that evokes the Pierson’s Puppeteers introducing the bacteria that ate the room temperature superconductor material used by the Ringworld so they could collapse the civilization there and take it over, frankly. “We designed this bacteria to eat a product which is used throughout our civilization! What could go wrong?!?”
But it washes now, and that’s all that matters!
I wish I had a washing machine.

Oh come on, the pictures are the story.
“The boy faces a felony charge of robbery while wearing a mask.”
At least it’s a felony.
Former President Donald Trump declined to stake out a clear position on the future of abortion rights in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” but he repeatedly expressed interest in serving as a mediator between “both sides” to reach an agreement.
“I think they’re all going to like me,” he said. “I think both sides are going to like me.”
That’s delusional.
Yeah, he’s either lying through his teeth or he’s out of touch with reality neither of which is good. It looks like he hasn’t learned a damn thing.
He could have just said “It’s the states’ problem now. It’s no longer federal thanks to my SCOTUS choices.”
That won’t satisfy the rabid pro-lifers in the Republican party.
This is weirdly one of those times he is right, though of course he can’t make a good case for why he is.
I thought the decision said it was up “The People’s elected representatives” to deal with abortion? Which means Congress can enter the picture.
The constitution doesn’t provide any authority to the federal government regarding abortion.
That ship sailed with Wickard v. Filburn.
Well SCotUS did just say that Roe was wrong for lack of that nexus, so it would be interesting to see them subsequently defend yet another federal intervention. Possible, but not likely.
There are fine people on both sides.
Somewhat. Given most of the post analysis on 2022 is that for some reason, that issue (and the idea of the Stupid Party pushing it with no exceptions) fired up the wine guzzling Karens like nothing else and is what kept the expected
Roll TideRed Wave from manifesting — telling the Stupid Party to knock it off or nothing will be accomplished does have some merit. I’m with them in principle… but after so many decades of Roe v. Wade picking your battles carefully seems prudent.Saying the heartbeat law is horrible was a stupid thing to do. He could simply say he personally doesn’t like abortion but thinks a National ban is unrealistic and a foolish expenditure of political capital (which he sort of did say), instead he kind of threw a sizable part of his base under the bus.
Remember, Trump is basically a 90s Democrat. He was never a hardcore pro-lifer.
Damn him for being specific about what he thinks is a problem for the GOP ever getting back in power. What we need are more politicians who lie or obfuscate about what they’re up to. 🙄
Not obfuscate, use tact.
He beats his chest about appointing justices who overturned Roe, then says any heartbeat law passed is terrible.
Square that circle o’ stupid.
It goes like this “look what I did for you, now stop pestering me for more”.
Overturning Roe means each state gets to decide what abortion laws to use, rather than the feds pre-empting those powers.
Trump then says he disagrees with a heartbeat being the cutoff point for abortions, that he thinks some point later in a pregnancy is a more acceptable point for personhood if one wants the GOP to regain power.
You might disagree with him about the heartbeat thing, but that stance isn’t obviously wrong or stupid, politically speaking.
Two different aspects of a broad topic.
I have no issue with Trump’s statement here?
The pro-lifers have gotten the biggest victory they are going to get on this issue. State’s can decide. Should Trump be like every other moronic Republic of the last five decades and take a hardline stance on abortion publicly, then appoint justices who won’t do shit about it like George the Lesser? He gave you the justices who actually did something. At a certain point with politics, especially in our current climate, you just have to take good enough.
If they are going to attack Trump on anything, it should be because he is once again talking about making it a federal issue. Coming up with some sweeping federal law on abortion doesn’t just prevent the hardline states from acting, but opens the door for the Dems to reverse it at the federal level when they have the power to do so.
Law vs. judicial fiat.
Now, where’s my $5?
“Square that circle o’ stupid.”

It might all be a lie. I don’t know for sure. It’s hearsay.
I laugh at the assholes talking about the centuries long conflicts that they are sending our kids to die in.
Personally, I think it is too late to “fix” anything.
That’s because Trump continues to show he has no real ideology or principles. He has instincts which at times are good, and seems to genuinely like his country.
But his presidency and the past several years since he supposedly lost to Biden have proven Trump is more interested in talking about himself.
Plus, juris imprudent is right. Trump’s still a NYC Democrat at heart.
that issue (and the idea of the Stupid Party pushing it with no exceptions) fired up the wine guzzling Karens like nothing else and is what kept the expected Roll Tide Red Wave from manifesting according to the MSM after months of propagandizing.

“While dozens of Illinois officers have already relocated to Florida, we look forward to welcoming many more with open arms and a $5,000 bonus.”
Those cops will think differently when they find that they can’t make six-figure paychecks (plus 112 hours of overtime per week) right before retirement.
The right way to do it is to retire first from the Chicago gig, then hire on in FL and do the double dip.
Hi Brett!

An unusually well-preserved dinosaur skeleton, a Camptosaurus known as Barry, will go under the hammer in Paris next month.
The dinosaur, which dates from the late Jurassic period some 150 million years ago, was first discovered in Wyoming in the 1990s. It was initially restored in 2000 by palaeontologist Barry James, from whom it got its name.
——-
Dinosaur specimens remain rare on the art market, with no more than a couple of sales a year worldwide, Giquello said.
The skeleton, which will be shown to the public in mid-October, is expected to fetch up to €1.2 million ($1.28 million) when it goes on sale on October 20.

“The US military has set up a hotline for a missing Marine Corps F-35 fighter jet that has been missing since its pilot ejected over South Carolina for unknown reasons on Monday, leaving the jet with stealth capabilities flying in a ‘zombie state.’
Joint Base Charleston asked the public on Monday to call the base if they have ‘any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35,’ which is worth $100 million….
n F-35 has a range of up to 1,200 miles but it’s unclear how much fuel was in the jet at the time that it went missing. With a full tank, it could travel for hundreds of miles on autopilot….
Local congresswoman, Rep. Nancy Mace, tweeted: ‘How in the hell do you lose an F-35? How is there not a tracking device and we’re asking the public to what, find a jet and turn it in?'”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12532685/missing-fighter-jet-update.html
Maybe it was stolen like that James Bond movie?
Why is anyone surprised they can’t find a stealth plane?
My version:
The plane was hacked by the Chinese or Russians. The plane was given warning signals forcing the pilot to eject. Then the commands were sent to the plane which was flown near a sub to be recovered and taken back to the the hacking country.
I think you are giving the Chinese and Russians far more credit than they deserve. Their governments are just as incompetent as ours is.
They shoulda put an AirTag on it.
From now on all stealth planes must be painted bright orange.

I believe the supposedly missing one is VTOL.
The missing jet is a Marine Corps version. And the AF also has a vertical landing version.
Possible the AF bought B versions, but there’s only 3, A – AF, B-VTOL USMC, and C – USN/carrier.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Monday said she saw no signs the U.S. economy is entering a downturn but warned that failure by Congress to pass legislation to keep the government running risked slowing momentum in the economy.
“I don’t see any signs that the economy is at risk of a downturn,” Yellen told CNBC, noting that the U.S. labor market also remained strong and inflation was coming down.
“There’s absolutely no reason for a shutdown,” she said. “Creating … a situation that could cause a loss of momentum is something we don’t need as a risk at this point.”
Yellen said it was premature to gauge the impact of a strike by the United Auto Workers against the Detroit Three U.S. automakers, one of the most ambitious U.S. industrial labor actions in decades, noting that would depend on how long it lasts and who was affected.
The spending must continue unabated.

An F-35B Joint Strike Fighter shot itself with one of its own Gatling Gun rounds during an exercise. The incident took place during a nighttime close air support mission at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in Arizona. The high explosive round detonated shortly after leaving the gun barrel, causing at least $2.5 million in damage. The pilot was unharmed and successfully landed the jet.

On the bright side, the German 10 year Bund just hit 2.7% today, the highest it’s been in a decade and obviously at the limit of what the ECB can tolerate. They’re running out of ammo to keep yields down and when it pops, it’s going to be spectacular.

Sure you can, in politics, academia and religion. Places where no reality test ever invalidates a belief.

Difference of opinion
Vivek Ramaswamy said he regrets taking the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine he’s received. He also said at a recent campaign stop that he and his wife, surgeon Apoorva Ramaswamy, “disagree on things sometimes,” and that’s OK.
One of those things is their feelings about the Covid-19 vaccine, Apoorva Ramaswamy told NBC News in an interview.
Dr. Ramaswamy, who is a laryngologist at Ohio State University, said she has no regrets about taking the jabs to protect against Covid, putting her decision in terms of her responsibility to the patients she sees.
“For my young, healthy husband, that’s a different decision than for me when I am taking care of patients who are cancer survivors, and they trust me to be in their airway every day,” Ramaswamy said Sunday at the Clay County Fair. “It’s a very different discussion. And I think giving people that autonomy is the most important part.”
“I’m an airway surgeon,” she continued, adding, “At that time, I think I had to do what I had to do.”
How did it come to be the accepted consensus that not “vaccinated” equals lethally contagious?
If the vaccine does anything at this point, I have seen no evidence of it. For the old and infirm or the young and healthy.
For a long time.
