At first I thought it was Canada descending the fastest into totalitarian madness, but then I saw the UK declared war on pizza.

This is my review of Bitburger Dry Hopped Zwyckl:

Pizza related arguments aside, British pizza isn’t anything to write home about.  Believe me, I’ve had it.  It was even made in a restaurant owned by an Italian ex-pat living in London.  Instead this Daily Beast article written by a guy that looks like he does stunts for David Hogg in gangbang videos caught my attention:

Brand has been accused by four women of sexual assault, as revealed in both a recent Channel 4 documentary and a Times of London investigative report. And a narrative has immediately formed not only among professional liars like Alex Jones and other internet trolls, but also from the mouths of mainstream right-wing commentators, that Brand is being persecuted by a vast conspiracy because of his anti-establishment commentary.

This is stupid. Full stop. And anyone pushing this idea has revealed themself as a deeply unserious person.

Anyone using the phrase “full stop” outside of the context of a telegram delivered by Western Union is a deeply unserious person that chooses to handwave any argument to the contrary with the specific intent to poison the well for any skepticism of the narrative.

Well, either that or they are on a rather large boat.  He cites a few right wing fanatics to support his argument:

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, came out in support of Brand, declaring, “That man is not evil,” while also approving of Brand’s own conspiracy theory that he’s being set up by the media and other institutions for his political views. […]

Right-wing podcaster Dave Rubin posted, “The Machine has set its sights on Russell Brand. Does anyone buy this stuff anymore?”[…]

Libertarian pundit Robby Soave—in perhaps the platonic ideal of “but the media” whataboutism—conceded that the allegations have “some corroboration,” but added, “On the other hand, you can’t discount that these allegations are only surfacing now because Brand has become adversarial to mainstream institutions.”

LOL.  To be sure.  Dave Rubin the gay hardcore milquetoast rightwinger that posts clips of The View to make fun of them.

While I do agree Brand in many ways brought this on himself with a career of essentially being a rockstar in the sex, drugs, rock and roll archetype without the actual part where one needs to first be am musician.  Brand turned to the redpilled leftist grift specializing in what personalities on the right talked about 5 days ago, for at least a year.   Pretending there isn’t a movement to ruin people with inconvenient opinions is disingenuous. Particularly with his stance on supporting the Ukraine war makes the allegations of impropriety 20 years ago a bit too convenient.

One could point to someone like Nigel Farange or Brett Kavanaugh as proof of this, but a better example is the guy taking the opposite approach:  Howard Stern.

“I hear that a lot that I’m not good anymore because I’m woke,” said Stern, a vocal critic of his erstwhile friend, former President Donald Trump, in comments reported by the news site Mediaite.

“By the way, I kind of take that as a compliment, that I’m woke,” the self-described “King of All Media” said on Monday, the same day he took aim at Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), calling her a “disgrace to this country” for her behavior at a Denver movie theater last week.

Granted, being an asshole is on brand for him.  After forty years of endorsing absolute depravity in every facet of American culture it is exceptionally easy to believe Howard Stern might have done something like grab a titty in a dark theater—then tell everyone about it on the air the next day.

So how could Stern keep baseless allegations from ruining him?  Support the regime by debasing himself to annoying lengths.

It is the rare combination that works that becomes the most successful.  Spaghetti and meatballs.  Peanut butter and chocolate.  Groping and dark theaters.  Ketchup and mustard.  This beer is now among such elite combos.  What is it?  You know Bitburg right?  The only German Pilsner that makes me think of Michael Fassbender terrorizing runaway Nazis.  What if they teamed up with Deschutes and instead dry-hopped it with hops they typically use fro IPA?  Is this another IPA?  Hell no.  Its more of a Pils, but not a lager, with a fruity finish.  While this sounds as retarded a putting the engine in the back of the car, somehow the really smart German brewing guys figured out how to make it work. “… that Brand is being persecuted by a vast conspiracy because of his anti-establishment commentary.”

When the British government sends letters asking that a person be deplatformed, just for allegations, it’s most definitely a coordinated conspiracy. I wonder if it hurt when Anthony Fisher had his brain removed.

    • R C Dean

Doubtful, given its size. I’m thinking laparoscopy in the assular region.

      • Beau Knott

Meh. He scooped it out one day when picking his nose. Didn’t notice, both because it was so small and because he wasn’t using it anyway.

I couldn’t give a fuck less about Howard Stern thirty years ago. Holds true today.

Indeed. I thought he retired. You never hear about the guy.

    Wagons were circled

Allies of Vice President Kamala Harris and other prominent Democrats are sending a clear message to their fellow party members who speculate that she should be replaced as President Joe Biden’s running mate in 2024: It’s time to stop it.

“It’s not only a distraction, it’s offensive,” Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told CNN in an interview.

The vice president has faced renewed calls from some pundits and columnists to be dropped from the ticket amid heightened concerns about the president’s age and doubts over her ability to lead if Biden were no longer able.

It’s at least the second major go-around of questioning whether Harris’ rightful place is by Biden’s side for the 2024 contentious race, leaving her office tired of the fraught conversation, according to a person familiar with the dynamic.

“Everybody’s sort of over it,” the person said.

The feeling is shared across most of the Democratic spectrum, who hope the party turns their sights on former President Donald Trump or whomever the Republican presidential nominee will be, instead of handwringing about themselves.

A source close to the Biden campaign told CNN: “People need to get on board and recognize every time they undermine the vice president, they undermine the campaign. We cannot afford to lose to these Republicans. So, get on board.”

Send in the white knights to stamp out dissension. Democracy hangs in the balance.

    • Fourscore

Biden choose Kamala to head up the “Stamp Out The Dangerous 11 Round Clip Guns”. That’s how serious Joe is in getting rid of crime in the city. Kamala’s first act is to form a committee, paid of course, and decide a course of action. This time it will really work.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and a former rival who was once iced out by the vice president for her lukewarm support, said Thursday she was proud to support Harris’ campaign with Biden.

“Vice President Harris is a passionate, clear, unyielding advocate for Americans’ freedoms, leading the administration’s efforts to protect reproductive freedom and strengthen voting rights,” Warren said in a statement. “I am proud to support her campaign with President Biden and I’m confident that the Administration’s record of delivering for American families will lead them to victory in 2024.”

Brand was a fashionable crank and no he is an unfashionable crank. Can’t stand the guy at all. I am pretty sure some questionable things happened at drug and booze filled parties and orgies. Still it is clear there is a political angle.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Yeah, copious drugs and booze would of course make him even more disinhibited than usual.

    • Suthenboy

I am amazed at how often the pinko crowd deploys the ‘believe me and not your lying eyes’ argument. It is completely absurd and no one buys it…why do they keep making such fools of themselves?

      Obvious things are obvious.

Today in Culture Matters: Listened to a few Ferrell performances after the morning links music.
    I got to this one – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieSOKHvWOls

I see the audience is all nasty, irredeemable deplorables. There is no fence or line of guards between the stage and the audience. I don’t see one cellphone. No one throws anything at her. She walks out onto the prow of the stage within inches of the audience. No one tries to grab her or touch her. She reaches out with the mic and lets them sing…no one tries to take it from her, they just sing.

Deplorables and their Goddamned civilized manners, propriety and sanity.
I wonder what percentage of non-flyover people this would be lost on.

    All race all the time

“Hair discrimination is rooted in systemic racism, and its purpose is to preserve white spaces,” the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund said.

“Policies that prohibit natural hairstyles, like afros, braids, bantu knots, and locs, have been used to justify the removal of Black children from classrooms, and Black adults from their employment,” the organization added.

I am become Biden, destroyer of wealth

President Joe Biden will travel to Michigan on Tuesday and walk the picket line with members of the United Auto Workers union, he announced Friday, a trip that comes after the president faced political pressure to ramp up his public support for the union members.

“Tuesday, I’ll go to Michigan to join the picket line and stand in solidarity with the men and women of UAW as they fight for a fair share of the value they helped create. It’s time for a win-win agreement that keeps American auto manufacturing thriving with well-paid UAW jobs,” Biden said in a post to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

And when there’s nothing left to share? What then?

    • Suthenboy

There is that word again….fair. Fair share. They use the phrase a lot but refuse to put a number on it.

      • DrOtto

The second lesson bestowed on me right after “There’s no such thing as a free lunch” was “life isn’t fair”. Heeding this advice has served me well throughout life.

      • Fourscore

My daughter (57 YO) reminded me that she had heard those words a lot as she was growing up. I have to keep reminding myself.

“Proper preparations prevent piss poor performance”. I’m still learning.

Is the person who bolts down the dash that was designed by someone else, assembled by many others, using a custom tool set, creating a lot of added value?

      • DrOtto

The UAW could learn from teachers. No one has the “I practically work for free” schtick down like teachers. Since school has recently started, there are at least once a week reminders from the local news with some poor teacher reminding us how she has to “buy her own supplies with her own money”. The UAW comes across like assholes, where as the messaging teachers use somehow works.

      • R C Dean

“Fire a couple of administrators and use the savings to reimburse teachers who buy supplies.”

        Said no educrat ever.

In Hospitals, Viruses Are Everywhere. Masks Are Not.

Amid an uptick in Covid infections, administrators, staff and patients are divided over the need for masks in health care settings.

Liv Grace came down with respiratory infections three times over the course of four months. Each occurred after a visit to a medical provider in the Bay Area.

Mx. Grace, 36, a writer who uses they/them pronouns, was infected with respiratory syncytial virus, which led to pneumonia, in December, after they were treated by a nurse wearing a surgical mask who complained about her children being ill with the virus.

And after “they/them” I checked out.

Insert Archer quote. And I can come up with a whole lot worse decisions.

The plaintiffs’ arguments in Consumer Financial Protection Bureau v. Community Financial Services Association, which the justices will hear on October 3, are simultaneously some of the silliest and some of the most dangerous ideas ever presented to the Supreme Court of the United States.

They claim that an entire federal agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), is unconstitutional. And they do so based on an interpretation of the Constitution that would invalidate Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and countless other federal programs. As the Justice Department notes in one of its briefs, the 2022 legislation funding the federal government contains more than 400 provisions that are invalid under these plaintiffs’ reading of the Constitution.

Am I getting old and starting the time honored thinking of ‘those darned kids today’? There are large populations in urban areas that have a barbarous culture and are essentially ungovernable. This seeps into the culture of some police departments. There is a very noticeable difference in attitude and behavior for different departments that seems to mirror the culture of the populations they police.
The solution in my mind is simple but unworkable. Trying to rebuild the overall moral character of the country might be insurmountable, especially with the left actively stymying those efforts and deliberately attempting to completely demoralize us.
Moral bankruptcy is like a cancer. It grows and spreads to all parts of the body unless aggressive and radical intervention is employed.

      • Sensei

There are large populations in urban areas that have a barbarous culture and are essentially ungovernable. This seeps into the culture of some police departments.

That’s it. Also cops no longer really work where they live. My town is too expensive for our cops to live in. In other cases they don’t want to live in a ghetto.

When and where I grew up my classmates had fathers who were on the police force.

      • Suthenboy

Yes. I should have put that in as well. These cultures, that of the police, the criminals and of the law abiding dont mix with each other much and so there is friction between them. A polarization, if you will.
I saw an exaggerated example in the town where I went to school.

I want to know what happened to walking a beat?
