¡Martes por la tarde, enlaces mexicanos!

I probably listen to more podcasts than I should, due to the mindless nature of my work day to day auditing FDRs.  I kept finding this woman on my feed, and then she kept coming up more and more so I listened to a YouTube short.  I don’t care that she tells women how much they suck.  I don’t care that she’s a redhead.  I don’t care she posts pictures of herself at the gym.  Okay, maybe not that last one but she needs to stop using the Smith machine.

She’s a psy-op.  She’s Peter Zeihan in a trad-wife dress.

¡Enlaces!

I have to quibble about this one.  El Paso can’t be at the “breaking point” if it was already broken since…forever.

WTF?

I’ve actually seen this as a kid.  The trains run through Nogales and they just hop right on top from the hillside.

Menendez should’ve diversified and accepted Bitcoin.  Now even El Presidente Dudebro is making fun of him.

Marijuana, Ketamine, and Bitcoin mining sounds like a pretty good time.

Joke’s on them, I’m never riding this train.

Brandon walks into a flagpole, and leaves Lula confused on stage.  He’s going to be out of the news a bit due to hip surgery.

When you see a volcano, remember to always duck and cover.

Since I already made a South Park reference:  Primus sucks.

Smith machine still seems better than not having a spotter.

      • Common Tater

Looks like she had two potential spotters. Why is that bench there?

      • Fatty Bolger

Sad. But why was the bench there? Seems like that’s what killed her.

      • mexican sharpshooter

There are dozens of ways to get killed in a gym. Some people are dumb.

    • Tundra

      No way.

In the rack with the safety bars set at the proper height.

      • Common Tater

It’s been a long time since I’ve used one, but doesn’t a Smith machine have stops?

      • Tundra

Yes, but you still have to twist the bar to engage them. Shit happens.

    • Ozymandias

      A thousand times no!!!
I have some expertise on this issue from setting up a risk retention group in the gym industry. (The largest single provider of gym insurance by number of gyms in the US at one point).
My now-wife was then our claims manager when she worked at an independent claims management provider. She handled those claims for all of the gym chains you know.

Smith Machines are (a) garbage equipment that is bad for you, (b) with the worst thing of all – danger hidden under the illusion of safety.

      1. You will almost NEVER twist those things in time once you fail. Rare to NEVER. Not in a squat and probably not in a bench.
      2. At the moment you have muscular failure, the Smith machine has you trapped in an artificially constrained vertical motion that puts your body in compromised and injurious positions.

It is a fucking death trap and responsible for A LOT of injuries – and therefore, insurance claims – on an annual basis.
      FUCK. THOSE. THINGS.
Do not use them – ever.
Squat rack with pins OR nothing – learn how to drop a weight in the bottom of your squat. Practice with light weights.
You should be able to sit in the bottom of the squat comfortably with weight on the bar and, if you fail, you push yourself forward and it backward slightly… ideally.

Holy shit, what a catastrophe Genghis Khan was. I pulled into the driveway just as the Mongols were poised to conquer Western Europe (as in there was nothing and nobody that could stop them), when his successor died. Tomorrow morning I’ll find out what happened next.

      • Suthenboy

One of the reasons Herself lost the election was drinking champagne at a hoity toity fundraiser SF while Trump was passing out food, blankets and water bottles that he personally paid for after a disastrous flood in Louisiana. He locked the state then and it is still solidly locked for him. Biden couldn’t get elected dog catcher in my state.

The incident underscores the growing trend of criminals leveraging cryptocurrencies for money laundering.

A trend, based on one incident where it is in no way shown that the bitcoin mining has anything to do with the illicit plant matter processing?

As cryptocurrencies become more mainstream, it’s essential for law enforcement agencies worldwide to adapt and develop strategies to combat these new methods of illicit activities.

    Latest NH polling

Former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the First in the Nation GOP primary despite the fervent opposition of Granite State Gov. Chris Sununu. And as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stumbles in the polls, South Carolina’s Nikki Haley is stepping up in New Hampshire.

WRT Primus – the sounds Les Claypool pulls out of his bass guitar bends my brain. Some of it I find catchy and enjoyable, and other stuff makes me scratch my head.

    This is for Sean.

  15. R.J.

How stupid is it of Ron DeSantis to debate Newsom? DeSantis has everything to lose. Ron needs to just go home and take care of Florida. That debate is not in any way going to make him look good. Newsom is a hideous freak who will tell any lie, do anything to strike out at Ron and the Republicans. Don’t give him a forum.

    • The Other Kevin

The narrative will be that Newsome “looks presidential” and that will pave the way for him to replace Biden.

    • Brochettaward

Eh…Newsome is the polar opposite of DeSantis on the issue that defines DeSantis. And Newsome is an empty suit so I fail to see why anyone should be scared to debate him outside having to probably fight the moderator while he’s at it. DeSantis needs to swing for the fences right now.

Newsome is the one with nothing to really gain. He will look like a clown, he’ll be further away from the presidency than ever when it’s over, and he’ll have to scurry back home to his fiefdom in Cali.

I personally find it galling that DeSantis is flailing around to gain support in the GOP and it really makes me question how many voters – let alone elected officials – have done any reflection on their own positions during covid. The guy was the only one inn the country in a position of executive authority who said fuck covid. He becam3e the brunt of the media’s propaganda storm and weathered it. He stuck by freedom when the easier position was to just cave like everyone else.

The criticisms of him are inane.

      • R.J.

I do agree, it seems a concentrated effort to knock out DeSantis. I like the guy. I wanted him to do good. I just can’t see how his campaign has floundered so badly.

      • SDF-7

Same. It really seemed like a no brainer to me — yeah, Trump is still a finger in the eyes of the Swamp… but so’s DeSantis, he has a better record actually governing and with COVID — and while there’s always the default “binders of women! dog on the car!” slander against any GOP candidate — he’s less likely to trigger the visceral reaction of Orange Julius *cough* Man Bad and be close to the margin of fraud right out of the gate.

But then again — it is still a long way to Iowa (or whatever primary is first).

NH worries me more with that special election in a red district that the Stupid Party lost by a large margin. That screams 2022 Red Wave Redux to me…

      • DEG

NH worries me more with that special election in a red district that the Stupid Party lost by a large margin. That screams 2022 Red Wave Redux to me…

        Here’s my thoughts:

The Republican candidate was a Trump guy. Media often quoted him as saying that he talked to “the prophets” who told him Trump won in 2020. From talks with some folks I know who are getting involved in the upcoming presidential primary, the Trump brand is toxic in NH.

There is infighting in the NH GOP. The Establishment is fighting back against libertarians, folks who pushed back on Sununu, and other outsiders.

The Democrats had a better Get Out The Vote program active in the 2022 election. I suspect they are still using it.

I’ve read that Democrats in NH generally do better in a special election than in the general election for a district. I haven’t looked at enough special elections to see if this is true, but based on those few that I’ve followed, I believe it. Note that this doesn’t mean that they will win, just that they will do better than in the general.

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

DeSantis is an idiot. Trying to run for POTUS when half the country is out for blood, and Trump is their standard bearer. Dude is young, and can wait another 4 years for when Trump is done and gone. If he ran for anything it should be the senate, were he can burnish his chops.

Right now, running against the Donald is a fools errand.

      • Brochettaward

That is one interpretation. The cult of ‘Trump is strong and irrational.

I think he needed to do something bold to take down Trump. Unless he’s banking on the Dems lawfare to force Trump out. Which was/is a distinct possibility.

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

True on the lawfare, but he can be seen as having hoped for that. If that happens, it instantly becomes one of the swamp, and that is a loser on the right.

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

        Can’t. Not can.

      • MikeS

The cult of ‘Trump is strong and irrational.

As they prove every time they go after Biden’s age.

      • Tundra

        Exactly.

If Biden wins, he’ll be the oldest president ever.

If Trump wins, he’ll be the oldest president ever.

        All should fuck off.

      • PutridMeat

I’d say age is a proxy for decline here, not numerical age. Not to claim the ‘cult’ of Trump is not irrational, but it’s not really irrational to claim Trump at his age is not in the same state of decline as Biden is at his age.

Now you could say “well then go after Biden’s cognitive decline, not his age!”, but it seems pretty clear that going after Biden’s age is using age as a proxy for cognitive abilities going/gone bye-bye.

      • MikeS

Of course it’s a proxy. But, “Well, that won’t happen to our guy anytime in the next 5-6 years. He’s at the peak of fitness, just ask him!” is, well, irrational.

      • Shpip

He probably figured that the GOP electorate would have Donald Fatigue (Lord knows that I do), and even if they didn’t, portraying himself as a smart, principled, somewhat liberty-oriented conservative would play well with the base. He did, after all, catch a lot of flack from The Donald for re-opening Florida as early as he did, and he was right. And he delivered a fair bunch of policy wins for the right at the statewide level. And you have to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak — wait until 2028, and a fair chunk of folks would be “Who? Oh, that guy?”

What he didn’t count on was that the Boomer Booboisie still loves them some OMB, or anyone else who can “tell it like it is” and “stick it to the libs.” Nevermind that the possibility of winning (or actually creating effective policy if Donnie Two-Scoops somehow manages to squeak by a fortified election) is nil.

I still run across some folks who think DeSantis should run as Trumps’s VP candidate, like the job is some kind of apprenticeship in statecraft or something.

On the other hand… look where Bill Clinton was polling in September 1991, when the Democrat clown car was jostling for position to get steamrolled by George H. W. Bush. Lots can happen in thirteen months.

  19. KK, Non-Man

I’ve got a case of the Tuesdays. Today at work:

    1) Our HR department sent me a PDF to be posted to the website for the Disabilities Employment Program. As is my wont (and literally part of my job), I checked it for accessibility. I thought: “this should be fully compliant and accessible because it comes from the HR disability folks.” LOL. No. It was the hottest mess of a PDF as I’ve seen in a long time. Call me a softy or a commie or whatever, but I think the cripples have just as much right to government information as the normals. 🤷‍♀️

    2) back in January we launched a new website. This meant that we would be able to import content from an old site and decommission the old site and take it offline. We informed the team that would be handling the import back in January and gave them training. Then we gave them another training a couple months later when nothing had been accomplished. Then another training. And another training 2 weeks ago. The deadline is this Friday. It takes ~2 hours to import one piece of content (they have to do it manually, copypasta style). I was informed TODAY that the team doesn’t have access to the particular content template we’re using. Also come to find out one of the team hasn’t even submitted her paperwork to get a login for the website. They’re literally delaying until it’s so far gone that my team will have to do the work. They want to be the Big-Idea-Havers that toss their brilliance to the plebs to implement.

      • Tundra

I never listened to him, except for when some dumb fuck thing he said made the rounds. I had buddies that were avid fans, though.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I was more of an Opie and Anthony (Cumia’s still funny at least) guy myself.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

He was kinda amusing playing himself. Or maybe I just liked Paul Giamatti. WNnnnnnBC!

      • Brochettaward

I won’t argue about what he’s become, or really defend his character all that much in general.

The show was funny as fuck from the 80’s through to the end of the Artie Lange era around 2009 or so. And there was a realness to it with what he was willing to put on air that made it what it was. That was unique and is long gone. It isn’t the gross out humor that made him, though I enjoyed my fair share of that.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Forgot about Lange-he actually is funny.

    Speaking of Newsom

CA has now banned the extremist book bans the GOP are pushing.

We will be fining schools that block textbooks and school library books for discriminatory reasons.

That’s super convenient since left-wing activists never remove books from schools for “discriminatory reasons”, they’re just decolonizing the school bookshelf by clearing out the old so-called “classics” written by dead racist white men in order to make room for the BIPOCAAPILGBTQ++ voices of today.

    • Common Tater

They keep using the word “ban” as though a library has every book in the universe.

Yeah. I write my post completely first. Then I go back and kill the commas.

Not too many deletions, please. Don’t write like a Brit (not that I think you do).

This comment from James Carville says a lot:

    ***
After Maher suggested that true overt racists were hard to find in today’s society, Carville disagreed. “They’re everywhere,” he said, arguing he often he sees Confederate flags on the back of pickup trucks.
    ***

The US is full of racists and the Stars and Bars is their secret sign. There’s no way it could be merely a symbol of regional pride or playful rebelliousness. Oh, no. Far from it. It’s just like the time I had a skull and crossbones as a decorative front license plate. I was required by law to display that as I was indeed a pirate at the time.

Le sigh, as Peppy LePew would say.

    • Ted S.

Racists are everywhere. Just look at the Democratic Party.

    • Nephilium

You used to see them all the time up here on the east side of Cleveland. The first drive to get rid of that mascot was in the mid/late 90’s. It was the black students who fought against that the most, and why the mascot and flag stayed (most of the flag decals were blue and grey outlines instead of the colored ones after that). Lots of people driving through town would be confused as hell by all the black teenagers driving around with the stars and bars on the back window of their car.

    • Pine_Tree

I have plenty of Yankee co-workers, smart people, who are utterly convinced that it’s just a racist thing and can’t comprehend how wrong they are. Even ones who are otherwise not woke are totally in on that.

NBC is reporting yet another Trump legal problem – something about committing fraud to obtain favorable bank loans by inflating the value of his assets. So who is the plaintiff in this case – some bank that got scammed and Trump defaulted on the loan? Claiming something is worth X when it is really worth Y is resolved through due diligence (or it should be). If Chumley on “Pawn Stars” pays $20,000 for a Picasso etching because the seller claims it is worth that much, and it turns out to be some Picasso wantabe’s work, worth $200, then Rick has cause to fire Chumley, not sue the seller.

    • blighted_non_millenial

NY State of course, and the judge has summarily ruled a bunch of shit and revoked the Trump org business license… the trial starts Monday….

    • The Bearded Hobbit

      Trump bad, mkay?

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Near as I can tell, the loan was paid in full, it’s the bank’s duty to perform due diligence, and it was the state filing charges under the Get Trump Clause, because the bank was not damaged.

    • rhywun

That one’s been around for a while. I think it’s what Tish James has “got him” on.

Megyn Kelly asks Trump Covid questions

One reporter has proven brave enough not to take the deal. The deal is: you can interview Trump provided you don’t ask perfectly obvious questions about his Covid response that shredded the Bill of Rights, wrecked his presidency, enabled mass mail-in ballots, elevated agencies to the status of dictators, and kicked off the biggest national crisis of our lifetimes from which we aren’t even close to recovering.

We still do not know when or if we will get the Constitution back. Inflation still rages, education nationwide is slipping more by the day, there is a resulting crime epidemic, and the cultural demoralization is like nothing we’ve ever seen – which is what happens when leaders dare to imagine that their power and prowess is some kind of match for the microbial kingdom.

We’ve watched in amazement as myriad reporters have entirely avoided the topic, including the otherwise intrepid Tucker Carlson and Glenn Beck. This is because Trump forbids it and it is where he is most vulnerable. He wants it to go away, while many people on the center-left let him off the hook because they approve of how he handled Covid. As a result, the country and the world are not getting anything close to the answers we seek.

Finally, Megyn Kelly stepped up and did it. She barely scratched the surface. She didn’t know the right follow up questions. She let him get away with nonsense. But the interview is still notable, at least a beginning. She is the first to have begun the grilling process.

    Meanwhile, in topsy-turvy land…

    Stress

A uniformed division officer was bitten by the dog around 8 p.m. Monday at the White House, and was treated on-site by medical personnel, said USSS chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi. The officer is doing just fine, he said.

Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for first lady Jill Biden, said “the White House can be a stressful environment for family pets, and the first family continues to work on ways to help Commander handle the often unpredictable nature of the White House grounds.”

A claw hammer will rectify this situation.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

I thought the dog had been exiled to Delaware.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

To be clear, I’m talking about Commander, not Jill.

    • The Hyperbole

Or you could put him down just like you would any other dog that shows a tendency to bite people.

      • Mojeaux

        Theeeeeeeeeee Hyperbole is right.

      • R.J.

We are probably on the fourth or fifth German Shepard. They go crazy from the contact high of Biden’s drug cocktail and have to be put down.

      • Brochettaward

I think this is the correct argument. There’s no other dog in the country who could get away with biting people 11 times and there be no repercussions for the owner or dog.

      • Tundra

After the second the dog needed to go to someone who knows what the fuck they are doing. After 11 I’m not even sure Caesar could do anything.

        Those fucks.

      • MikeS

And no repercussions for the shitty owners?

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

Or, twist, you could give the dog to people who like dogs and are willing to work with him.

As opposed to the fuckwits in the White House.

  36. The Late P Brooks

I thought the dog had been exiled to Delaware.

That was the previous bitey dog.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

There’s more than one? Maybe they are hanging out with Cracky.
