Short Film: Bad Hair
In case I accidentally showed that short film before, Music! Frank E. Stein and his Ghouls
The is one of my favorite films, hands down. It has three of my favorite actors in it, plus Jack Nicholson. Ha! In case you haven’t seen this film, it’s a battle between sorcerers in an old castle. It has very little to do with the actual poem The Raven.
Fun trivia: Nicholson loved working with everyone (who wouldn’t!) except for the Raven, which kept crapping on his costume. Also Peter Lorre kept ad-libbing lines which pulled Boris out of his character. Vincent Price just rolled with Lorre’s ad-libs.
Boris was starting to have movement issues and the flying chair scene was very unpleasant for him. Vincent didn’t care for it much either, it was like a crazed carnival ride.
At the time, The Raven did not get stunning reviews. Just shows you how useless critics are. This ended up being a cult favorite when it came to TV. The Raven rode the wave of “monster mania” and I feel that it helped get other projects green lit. Think about it. Munsters and Addams Family came out the next year.
One other point, this was the first time Corman and team decided to do an entire horror-comedy. Was it the first ever? Not at all. But it was very influential.
Enough rambling! Watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary until a cranky wizard turns you into a raven! Next week, the classics continue with Lady Frankenstein!
Help! Tubi wants an account to sign in!
No account or sign-in is required to use Tubi. The only advantage to signing in is you can maintain a queue and save your place in movies you are watching. Follow these instructions to bypass the sign in:
After you click the link for the weekly movie, hit the Play button on the movie and you should get the screen shown below. The guest option may require scrolling up to see. Click the circled guest option to watch the film.
This First is just coming at you fast, raw, and hard.
Just the way I know you like it.
First on a first. Nice.
Filthy, filthy whores who just want my First in and on them.

I think this will be good. Diving in!
The poster makes it look like a Three Stooges film.
😂😂
I liked that poster because I hardly ever see it. The normal portrait box art is this:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057449/
So far it’s pretty silly.
Yes, it will be.
It does kinda feel like a Stooges film.
Milk?
Give that thing an alka-seltzer.
Don’t overlook the short film. It’s a good body horror piece, especially for balding men. Next week, the short film will be one of the last appearances of Rowdy Roddy Piper on film.
“Portal to Hell”. I backed the indiegogo for that about 10 years ago. I have a “crew” t-shirt and an HD digital copy (sadly no blu-ray). Great stuff.
Trained or not, I wonder how many times that bird shit all over the set.
Probably had a treat every time it acted in a scene. It was a poop machine by the ed of the day.

Yeah, I can think of Zombies on Broadway from 1945. (Sorry I couldn’t find it anywhere else.)
Yes, before that was some sci-fi comedy, but horror comedy really took off after this.
I think I’m in Sabres 🏒 territory now 🙂
but ugh they are not doing so well tonight against my old Rangers.
Spaniard What Still Lurks on the Site Even After Getting a Sign In is watching the Stars game.
Sigh it’s going to be a long season.
What happened to that rebuild I vaguely heard about while I was living outside the market?
Oh that’s right, Eichel left for fucking Vegas and decided to stop sucking. Asshole.
Welcome to my world. How many coaches/players that sucked in Columbus were successful with other teams?
Oh, (((Peter Lorre)))
Better that Laurie’s peter.
https://youtu.be/z9oMh0HObh0
We know what she wants.
Looks like Lorre is fighting Fetterlump.
So far, the commercials are actually enjoyable. Nintendo, then an Old Spice commercial, then Target Halloween. Huge improvement over drug ads and political shit.
I don’t get commercials from Tubi.
I am on the Roku tonight, not the computer. So commercials I get.
I looked into one of those inexpensive 4K TCL TV’s you mentioned because the TV in my office is old. There is no manual. There is none in the box, and none online. When I called them on the phone, they couldn’t even give me a straight answer. So now I’m very reluctant to buy a TCL.
The big 4K Sony in the living room didn’t come with a manual either (because of their asinine “green” policy they leave out the one recyclable thing that is made from trees), but at least I could download it.
Interesting. No code to scan, maybe on the TV itself? I remember mine came with a basic startup guide.
Code to scan on the TV?? It comes with a basic startup guide, which is online, but not a real manual that will tell me basic shit.
I just spent $1K on a new stove (the one I bought nine years ago was $400, so it more than doubled in price), but I figured in a couple months with the xmas/black friday sales I could swing picking up a new 43″ 4K for a few hundred.
Even if there were a pdf manual, I still think it’s horseshit that you need a computer just to read the manual.
Also, the TCL remote sucks. So I’d have to buy a universal remote. Which is impossible to set up without a manual.
The new Spectrum remote I got recently in my new town is surprisingly nice. The buttons are nice and chunky and clicky.
I’m so used to tiny, mushy buttons*. Even on my universal remote which really I haven’t dug out yet but will probably need if I put in a DVD or Blu Ray.
*I’ve read explainers why remote buttons are so mushy, something to do with the old tech. I don’t know why my current cable remote seems to refute that.
The TCL remote doesn’t even have numbers. I wants you to use voice commands, which I won’t do for security reasons.
I’m always amused when the downloadable manual is obviously the same as the printed manual would have been if you weren’t too cheap/pretentious to print one for me.
PS. I finally found out what this fucking thing is, thanks to the manual I found 🙂
It’s meant to control the invisible blinds or shade in between the glass panes.
Weird that they left it in there. But I have traditional Venetian blinds instead that are not visible in the screenshot. To the left of the screenshot are two floor-to-ceiling windows which kind of have to be Venetian blinds so I guess that’s why this pane doesn’t have the built-in blinds.
It’s fucking horseshit.
I use the Roku App to control the TV. Sometimes I use the remote. My family always loses those tiny remotes so the phone comes in handy.
Nice effects. The drawing of the castle looks like something out of “Highlights for Children”.
It was incredibly bad.
Shut yo mouth.
Highlights was the, well, highlight of any visit to the dentist.
I’m sure you were Gallant, not Goofus.
But of course.
*tap tap taps*
Gee, they went LIBQUILT back in 2017. How stunning and the most important thing I need to know in a Wikipedia article about it.
Making pliers. That forging machine is great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A5fose87lw
I gotta drop off. I’ll finish this movie tomorrow. Thanks RJ!
I may not make it much longer myself. Work days are getting a lot longer lately.
I keep skipping ahead like its pr0n.
Next week you may enjoy Lady Frankenstein, as a horny Frankenstein monster is on the loose.
Who isn’t?
Ill be out of town anyhow- after a week off, the company is going to extract their pound of flesh.
Roku stick has made hotel life a lot better.
True.
After I left a couple of Rokus behind, I got an HDMI extension cable so I’d be sure to see it when I packed up.
I’ve had that fear. My strategy is to leave the semi hard case I store it in in front of the tv along with my travel bag charging cable bag. I put all away into each and then directly into my suitcase. So far it’s worked well, even when I need to pack up in with no time left.
No way! Scalise dropped out of the Speaker Race!
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2023/10/12/breaking-steve-scalise-drops-out-of-race-for-speaker-n1734713
“All I can say is that Republicans need to get their act together and elect a speaker. With the war going on in Israel, the invasion at the southern border, the economy in a mess, and the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, now is not the time for division in the Republican Party”
Fucketh off. The government can only make any of those things worse.
The whole point of kicking McCarthy out as Speaker is that they don’t have unanimity in visions. If the RINO faction wants unity so bad, they can agree to support whoever the rest of the GOP supports.
If they aren’t willing to do that, then they are in favor of “division” and can fuck right off.
They (like most people) want to see their side prevail, no matter what.
I don’t know… It seems like policing our border is something the government should do.
I have no idea what any of that means since I don’t follow GOP Inside Baseball.
Does it mean the Dems got more power? That all I really care about.
Right now, IIRC, it means Congress can’t pass any legislation whatsoever. That doesn’t seem like something that gives more power to the party that controls the White House.
With executive orders now the norm, is Congress even relevant at all?
Jim Jordan from the Freedom Caucus was the next candidate in line. He may well be speaker now. I don’t know if he would stay true to the Freedom Caucus and give everybody hell, or if he would roll over. Time will tell. So far the Freedom caucus has been a most amusing thorn in the side of the uniparty. And Liz Cheney hates him. So he can’t be all bad.
That I can follow, and appreciate.
Sweeeeet.
Love your little bits of movie history. Maybe Ted’s will add some info as well. I can’t wait.
The two fun facts came from IMDB. The rest of the analysis came from me.
This is just what I need tonight
Raven: “How the hell should I know?”
See y’all on the other side of the apocalypse! Or something.
On topic: Love this movie. Vincent Price and the rest look like they’re having fun while making this.
Off topic: Lyin’ Lujan’s hatred for the Constitution that she “swore to uphold” is okayed by the Feds
But on the bright side, New Mexico moved slightly closer to utopia so there is that.
“On Wednesday, Judge Urias issued a decision on the preliminary injunction request, siding with Grisham’s amended ban and suggesting that parks and playgrounds fall into a “sensitive places” categorization and are therefore “excepted from the Second Amendment’s commands.”
I got a sensitive place right here.
Fuck Alito and his invisible ink is ok as long it’s invisible from the start.
I’m guessing that she’s looking for a cabinet slot in the Kamala/Newsom administration. She and Whitmer can duke it out.
*shudders*
They can’t afford to lose all those California Electors.
So unless they dream up an alternative ticket with a different Veep just for California, they need a new plan.
Or could Kamala just declare she’s a resident of DC now?
Yeah, I vomited in my mouth a little typing that out.
If Kamala becomes president, will her handlers make her stay sober before speeches?
I hope not.
🤣

I’m going with B.
Yeah, me too. Aim not so very critical (I’m assuming I’d be somewhat rattled) and it’s not going to penetrate a bunch of walls.
If A had a silencer to go with the muzzle brake, I’d choose A instead. I’m much better with the carbine than with the shotgun, and the carbine has a white light which would be helpful for this kinda deal. But I’m not firing an 11.5″ AR with a comp indoors without a silencer, not even with active earpro on.
Ok, now that I’m reading Article II of the constitution, how the heck do they get away with “Early Voting” and all that?
Before Covid gave states an excuse to send mail-in ballots to EVERYONE, if you were planning to be out of town on voting day, you had to go to at least a little trouble to get your absentee ballot, which i did.
Automatic mail-in is set up for one reason alone. And only the lock-step party with good, er, community organization, knows how to use it.
Early voting is some sort of “game theory” BS that the Dems figured out benefits them so they are all for it.
I just got my voter card in the mail today and “Early Voting!” was all over that shizz.
I don’t understand the math behind it, but it works.
It gives the Dem operatives more time to round up disinterested citizens, take them to the polls, “vouch” for their residency, and buy them pizza (or, as in Wisconsin, cigarettes).
Then they go for another batch. And another. Sometimes they bus the same batch over to another district and “vouch” for their residency too. In some states that makes their votes provisional by law, but there are way more dem volunteers working at the polling locations, and they don’t mark them provisional; they just count them.
Oh, and early voting means early exit polls, which helps them see which counties to focus on.
Marginally on-topic: “Peter Lorre” “cameo” begins at 1:28.

You people should be ashamed.
RedLetterMedia went there and touched on wokeness in Hollywood and how cynical it is. Even if it means short changing the movie!
They picked the safest project to lampoon and pretend they are touching on new ground when they talk about how these discussions really take place regarding race.
I still like RLM but they do play it on the safe side most of the time and way more than they used to. They’d never do the older Mr. Plinkett stuff now.
Wtf is wrong with McDonalds? “We don’t have any hot coffee. It’s too late for that. We do have iced coffee.”
At a 24 hour location just off the interstate.
I blame todays youth and their stupid “energy” drinks.
Firster’s don’t need energy. We generate our own.
WTF is wrong with Marriott
Don: gets tired, pulls off interstate, grabs a room on ap, rolls over and goes in
Don: hands credit card on the account and reservation to clerk
Clerk: name on reservation?
Don: probably the same as the one on that card, sport
Clerk: I don’t like (mumble) cards (mumbles)
Don: I’m paying you to like it
Clerk: want to leave the room on the card on the account
Don: yup; probably why I handed you that same exact card
Clerk: grudgingly punches my very rare name into computer, reservation pops up, done in 10 seconds, hands me my keys and reels off the standard pleasantries
Don: goes to room shaking head and remembering the day when every retail transaction didn’t end in my swallowing a dog cussing that someone richly deserved
Good morning peeps.

Good morning all!
Today we have 2 more from Tuxedomoon.
Holiday for Plywood.
Desire.
Share and enjoy!
Good morning, Beau and Sean!
I have to leave for work a little earlier than usual – big Zoom meeting about our health insurance open enrollment. Same insurance company, but our rates are going way up, reportedly because said company paid out more in claims than it took in for premiums. And we can’t switch companies because no one else will have us. 😕
😥
::shrugs:: That’s what you get when you have a small group with a few expensively sick members.
My employer IS trying to soften the blow – they’ll slightly increase the percentage of the premium they’ll cover, and they’ll contribute more to our HSAs.
I hate oversleeping. Especially when I’ve got somewhere to be. I made it to the office 15 minutes after I normally arrive, so I haven’t managed to finish breakfast and the workday is officially starting.
I suppose it’s considered bad form to eat at your desk?
I hope not. I eat breakfast at my desk every office day. Of course, I’m also the first one in.
And as I recall, very few folks opt to work in-office on Fridays, right?
It is a very popular day to work from home.
Only if it’s lutefisk topped with fresh durian fruit.
My office is right outside the break room, so I’m tempted to post “NO FISH!!!” signs on the microwaves.
If I saw that, I would be tempted to add a comma in between the words.
At least no one’s microwaving curry at this office.
To curry favor, favor curry
Sphinx?
You’re an evil man, U.
I would do it… I’d just put in the popcorn vindaloo.
Let me reheat something smothered in Tabasco.
I dehydrate my hot peppers in the warehouse. It’s surprisingly not unpleasant.
What about your cold peppers?
*Throws pepper powder at UCS*
No need to get spicy.
Hey! YOU’RE the guy who’s been stealing my lunch!
::checks online local traffic map:: Jeeminy criminy! I’d be willing to swear there’s been an accident along one particular otherwise unremarkable stretch of the interstate every morning lately! Luckily, it’s not along my route to work. ::knocks wood & crosses fingers::
Mornin’, reprobates!
Sorry, you missed it. It’s now evening.
Boy, did that day go by quick.
The eclipse is tomorrow.

Can’t be that hyped. This is the first I’m hearing about it.
Shame about the viewing area being so far away. Maybe west coast Glibs can get pictures.

It may jot be so great where you are. I have a very definite opportunity where I am.
Looks like the one in April will be much more visible from up here.
Shame it’s a monday.
