Monday Afternoon Swiss Linkings

by | Oct 23, 2023 | Daily Links | 128 comments

Your orders, I will take them.

Insomnia has me feeling like I am living in a SugarFree story. So I am going to try to keep the links a bit more conventional, so I don’t accidentally spoil Wednesday, somehow.

Let’s go.

  • Good Lord…”Despite record glacier melt…” Euro-media, man.
  • A semi-interesting piece of spin. I should probably care more, but right now, I don’t.
  • I wonder if the fat bus driver will figure a way out of his upcoming election?
  • STEVE SMITH remains popular.

Music…since I don’t feel all that great, time to dust this one off.

The comments are all yours.

We’re all living in a SugarFree story.

  2. Common Tater

I read that Miranda Devine piece. I agree it’s spin, and that Sydney Powell did seem nuts.

    • SDF-7

Given Guliani these days… when he thinks you’ve gone out there….

    • rhywun

I’ve about had it with the lot of them. Giuliani and Trump look like they should be playing shuffleboard at the old folks home. It’s time for The Next Generation.

      • Chafed

        Make it so, Rhywun.

      • Homple

Name some from the Next Generation.

  3. SDF-7

Heh… nice music link, Swiss. Was half expecting… hope you feel better.

  4. R.J.

Sydney Powell is a loser, who did nothing and amounts to nothing. I agree she will have nothing in testimony. She took a plea bargain because she is an idiot.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

She took a plea because she’ll see zero prison time and a few misdemeanors for sure beats a few felonies maybe in a rigged system. She definitely wrote some checks with all her kraken talk that she couldn’t cash.

      • Rebel Scum

        all her kraken talk

I’m the only one releasing the kraken, but that’s only when my pants come off.

      • SDF-7

You should probably see a specialist about that.

      • R.J.

Now I want some rum, and cryptocurrency.

      • Aloysious

“Why is the rum always gone?”

      • R.J.

        *Whistles

      • Ted S.

        Not sodomy and the lash?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Too British…

      • Rat on a train

        Not enough cannibalism.

      • Gustave Lytton

And Black Tot Day is in July.

      • The Last American Hero

        And an underperforming hockey team.

      • The Other Kevin

And they are offering plea deals so they can line up witnesses against Trump, which was the plan all along. They have no interest in “justice”, otherwise they’d prosecute these people who did such horrible things.

      • juris imprudent

Or they did the plea deals to not risk losing their case with a jury. That would’ve set a really bad scene for the big show.

      • cyto

        H dry j

      • Gustave Lytton

Witnesses? Don’t even need to go to trial. They have convictions now so Trump is clearly already guilty since his coconspirators are guilty.

  5. Common Tater

“Nowadays, entire organizations exist to study and document Bigfoot and prove its existence – with dedicated groups regularly searching the Northwest woods, looking for that ultimate proof.”

    STEVE SMITH PROVIDE ULTIMATE PROOF

    • Bobarian LMD

YOU PROBABLY NOT GOING TO LIKE IT…

      OR EVEN SURVIVE IT

    • Suthenboy

Seeking evidence to support a predetermined conclusion. Interesting approach…

  6. R.J.

    Regarding Bigfoot:
“”To me this feels like a hoax; the movement of this individual is so human like that there’s not the least animal quality about it. It almost looked like a thin individual wearing a suit that was far too big.”

    I know who it was.

  7. The Late P Brooks

We’re living in a giant outdoor insane asylum.

    • SDF-7

What, like some sort of madhouse?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Damn dirty apes!

  8. Rebel Scum

Insomnia has me feeling like I am living in a SugarFree story.

But the plot is full of holes.

    • SDF-7

But it is a story of which we have become fond… do you agree?

    • Bobarian LMD

I think the line is “It’s full of stars!”

  9. Stinky Wizzleteats

I think Bigfoot was just a poacher in a Ghillie suit.

    • R.J.

      A really dedicated furry.

      • SDF-7

STEVE SMITH DISLIKE FURRIES. FEELS LIKE NO CHALLENGE, BUT NEEDS MUST WHEN DEVIL DRIVES — AND BY DRIVES, MEAN….

    • Fourscore

He/she was walking vewy, vewy carefully, years must be catching up to Ol’ SS

  10. Rebel Scum

as two environmentally-minded parties lost ground despite record glacier melt in the Alpine country.

    Because it was summer?

    • R.J.

I have a friend in a nearby country (to Switzerland), and he is losing his shit over the glaciers melting. Glad to see that everyone isn’t. I do not in any way believe the greens lost seats because some bill passed last year that solves all the environmental problems. People are just tired of this shit.

      • rhywun

The green fraud was attractive when life was all comfy cozy. Not so much anymore, thanks to them and their close lefty friends.

  11. Shpip

Maduro’s government rejected the ballot as a sham.

Well, if anyone would know about sham elections, it’s them.

“They are liars, they manipulate, they don’t care at all. We already have the results,” said Diosdado Cabello, vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela.

Seems like every Venezuelan election has pre-determined results.

However, it is unclear whether Machado will be permitted to run as she was banned in June from elected office for 15 years over alleged fraud and tax violations by Comptroller General Elvis Amoroso, a Maduro supporter who now heads the electoral commission.

    Now that’s how you fortify.

    • Dr. Fronkensteen

He’s not wrong. They already have the results.

    • Bobarian LMD

Elvis has not left the building?

    • Ted S.

      Same as downtown?

      • Common Tater

        Twice a much!

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Inflation, it’s everywhere

    • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

Fuckin’ Rio Linda, white trash capital of NorCal. And that is saying something.

    • Not Adahn

A young blond woman in a hot pink bikini and a white faux fur bolero jacket posed seductively and smiled for the men as she tried to balance herself on acrylic 6-inch stilettos.

If it had been a Daily Mail story, there would have been a link to where you could buy that jacket.

      • rhywun

        lol

If prostitution is all but legal now, I wonder why there is still a red-light district?

      • Common Tater

Because it’s not legal, they can’t advertise, so customers need to know where to find them.

      • rhywun

new California laws that make it nearly impossible for cops to bust prostitutes

OK it’s not legal but they can’t arrest them for it. How is that not “all but legal”?

      • Common Tater

It is all but legal. But advertising is illegal. Remember Kamala going after Backpage?

    • Lackadaisical

I gotta say, those prostitutes look way better than I thought they would.

  12. The Late P Brooks

Playing in the background right now

    • Fourscore

      They’re playing our song…

  13. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

When did Colorado become part of Cascadia? Is STEVE SMITH a colonist? He certainly is in a lot of colons.

  14. Rebel Scum

    Intifada non Greta.

Early Friday morning, the 20-year-old Swedish activist posted a since-deleted photo of herself and three other activists with signs that read, “Free Palestine,” “Climate Justice Now,” “This Jew Stands With Palestine” and “Stand With Gaza.” The photo included a blue octopus that had a frowning face and was sitting on one of the activists’ legs.

“Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza. The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected,” she wrote in the post. Moments later, Thunberg deleted it and shared a nearly identical photo — the same four people holding the same four signs — this time with the stuffed animal cut out of the photo.

“It has come to my knowledge that the stuffed animal shown in my earlier post can be interpreted as a symbol for antisemitism, which I was completely unaware of,” she wrote in an accompanying post. “The toy in the picture is a tool often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings.”

    • R.J.

ll I can say is – the meme opportunities are endless once those sign cards are blanked out. I’ll do it myself if I have to.

      • Ted S.

        Somebody tweeted “How dare Jew!”

    • grrizzly

In related news, Greta is mentioned in Israeli textbooks, I guess, because of climate change. How retarded do you have to be to pay any attention, let alone that much attention, to an ugly teenager? At least Samantha Smith was cute. And she wasn’t in Soviet textbooks.

      • Ted S.

She was a useless idiot, most likely put up to it by her parents.

      • grrizzly

Works for both girls. I bet you meant it.

      • Gustave Lytton

Smith was killed by the deep state when her usefulness ran out.

    • The Other Kevin

She is just another social media “influencer”, with a different topic other than her bra coming undone at the gym.

  15. Mojeaux

I am so fed up with all these streaming services. I have a lot. I can’t figure out what to watch. Mostly it’s me. But partially it’s how they pull up shows and suggestions. Do not suggest to me shows I have already watched. Keep my place where I stopped watching and show me that FIRST before everything else. Give me a way to remove a show from the algorithm. Don’t fuck around with my lists.

    • Nephilium

It gets worse when behavior isn’t the same between phone apps, web browser tabs, and applications loaded on the TV/DVD/Blu Ray player all do things differently.

      • R.J.

Heh. My 200 saved movies on Tubi produce some twisted suggestions now.

      • rhywun

Good god I couldn’t deal with all of that.

        Another reason I won’t stream.

  16. Shpip

Me: Thirty years ago today, Joe Carter touched ’em all.
    Wife: Oh, I remember.
Me: I also gave you a present, which you accepted.
Wife: You have to keep throwing that in my face, don’t you?
Me: The Blue Jays have sure been a disappointment the last thirty years.
Wife: They ain’t the only ones.
    Me: ???
    Wife: Nuttin’

    • Raven Nation

      Umm, I’m sorry?

    • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

      Merry Anni.

    • The Other Kevin

Just a gut feeling, but I bet support for gun control in general is going to take a nose dive after the attack in Israel, the wide open border, and all the crime in the cities.

      • Don escaped Texas

the synagogue being surrounded by guys with Uzis makes me feel unsafe!

      • rhywun

I get shit all the time for being overly optimistic – it’s someone else’s turn!

    • WTF

When I was at the range the other day there were a couple of Jewish brothers there to qualify for their carry permits.
      Made me happy.

    • Suthenboy

      What I call a Jew…or anyone really…without a gun – Fool.

    • Chafed

Man I hope you are right.

    • Drake

That obsolete old model with a functioning cohesive society?

      • The Other Kevin

That obsolete old model where Democrats sometimes lose.

    • juris imprudent

Something about the editing that I don’t trust.

  17. DEG

Pre-election polls suggested that Swiss voters had three main concerns: Rising fees for the obligatory, free market-based health insurance system

    Obligatory, free market. Pick one.

The 56-year-old former assemblywoman who has been a thorn in the side of the Maduro regime, leading national protests in 2014 and 2019, had won 93% of Sunday’s vote with slightly more than a quarter of ballots counted.

    Lone nut inbound?

    • SDF-7

Given their map makes a big deal about “10 miles away!”… the old adage about in the US, 100 years is a long time… in Europe 100 miles is a long way…. leaps to mind.

    • Fourscore

I do mail order so I have to walk clear out to the mailbox. That’s a long ways but probably less than 10 miles

    • juris imprudent

Our nearest Rite Aid might be under 10 miles – pretty close to that. Not that we use it much, since we drive on past to Walmart.

    • Suthenboy

Without access to healthcare. Totally without.

    • rhywun

‘These closures are disproportionately affecting communities that need pharmacies most refuse to prosecute theft.’

      FTFY.

  18. Shpip

Mentally ill cross-dresser running for a seat in the Alabama House in a majority-black district.

    It’s a bold strategy, Cotton…

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

      Stunning and brave.

    • Fourscore

She’ll be a good pol, she’s already got the math part down.

    • juris imprudent

She looks like an actual woman, not a man attempting to be a woman. Love the demographics of that district.

      • rhywun

She looks like an actual woman, not a man attempting to be a woman.

That was my thought. She should not have even told anyone and see what happened.

      • Lackadaisical

In general I’ve noticed that certain photos can be more convincing than others.

I love that the PAC supporting him is called Leaders We Deserve

        I think that’s funny.

  19. grrizzly

    Nikki Haley: Anti-Zionism is antisemitism.

    • SDF-7

“There are no shades of gray. You are with us — or against us. Resistance is futile, we will add your technological and biological distinctiveness to our own….”

      • Rebel Scum

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

      • Drake

        And neo-con idiots.

      • juris imprudent

Those would be Sith’s without the forth.

    • DEG

      Hillary 2.0.

      • R.J.

        Don’t give the universe ideas…

    • Not Adahn

If you bet that any particular “anti-Zionist” is also an antisemite, you’ll never go broke.

  20. SDF-7

Linked this just before the links dropped… seemed worth a repeat in case anyone missed the stupidity.

And now we know the White House code for the bathroom.

    • Bobarian LMD

I have a situation running down the back of my legs.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Shouldn’t that be the Shituation Room?

    • rhywun

I think antisemitism in the US is considerably overstated but good grief even I have to come to the conclusion that there seems to be way more of it than “islamophobia”.

  21. Sensei

    Hmmm. What’s changed?

But we do. Nearly two years into a joint governor-mayor effort to secure the subways, they’re still twice as dangerous, per rider, as they were in 2019.

No, NYC subways still aren’t safe

    • Lackadaisical

How much of that is because ridership is down by half?

    • R.J.

OMG. Yeah, let’s penalize landlords who can’t find tenants.

      • Sensei

Well the state can just take them for taxes and run them.

That should work, right? State housing has always worked, right?

      • Chafed

It may not have always worked as planned. But, we are much smarter and modern so this time it will work for sure.

      • Lackadaisical

They didn’t do it right. Luckily we have the correct experts now.

    • rhywun

San Francisco could get 90% of its homeless off the streets

I couldn’t even make it all the way through the headline.

That guy in the pic isn’t going to be maintaining a household whether it is “free” or not. JFC.

      • Suthenboy

Yep. The homeless are mentally ill, choose that lifestyle, or have serious substance abuse problems….or all three.
Getting them off of the street? Never gonna happen.
It is a good premise for weakening property rights and grabbing more power.

  22. Mojeaux

Is it just me or is Trump’s voice getting weaker?

      • rhywun

        lol knew it

    • rhywun

Haven’t heard him in a while but sheesh he’s only a few years behind Biden.

*My* voice is getting weaker and I’m a couple decades behind.

  23. Suthenboy

A- Obligatory plug for the global warming scam. The muslim invasion of Europe is going to bite them in the ass in a big way.
B- The anti-Trumpers have taken such a huge steamer on their credibility that no one listens to them anymore. No matter what they say or do they won’t change a single mind either way.
C- Every dictator for life needs a piñata to beat on in periodical free and fair elections.
D- As someone pointed out here long ago, its not the picture that is fuzzy, it is Steve Smith that is fuzzy.
E- De gustibus non est disputandum

  24. Sensei

HERE IS YOUR 0.00% IDLE TIME

I worked for a company that provides a utility truck and one of the analytics they monitor is how long the truck stays in place with the motor on.

The target number was something like 3%, I consistently was stuck in traffic due to my area being changed to the downtown area of my city and naturally -raising my idle percent-.

    • rhywun

My town doesn’t have a bus station anymore (it closed when the proprietors retired, lol). So now there are two curbside stops – one of them is in front of my building. All of which is to say that if this guy doesn’t want to turn off his engine, he just needs to find a job with Trailways or Flixbus or Ourbus or Coach USA or Greyhound or Short Line.

      • Sensei

Nothing like the clatter of a diesel under your window.

Let’s get FedGov working on that too…

(The stuff you don’t consider when you move to a new place.)

      • rhywun

The “funny” part is I first looked up this place because that is where a bus dropped me off.

I just had no idea there were so many of them. At least I’m on the 4th floor so it’s not that bad.
