Saw a position open up last Friday in another state. The fun part about the “Medicaid business” is there are often residency requirements needed to work for a Medicaid contractor. I found one, that is quite a leg up for me and it did not mention such a requirement so I applied. I let my boss know what I did and asked if it was possible for an endorsement.
”It might have a residency requirement.”
”I looked and it didn’t mention one.”
Sure enough, I checked this morning and they updated the announcement to reflect the residency requirement. Way to go HR!
CBP closes down a the Lukeville, AZ border crossing. Which is actually pretty small, but its the closest crossing to the Sea of Cortez. Winter is the busy season for that part of Mexico which means they’re gonna have a really shitty Xmas. Way to go assholes.
Sharks bites tourist at a beach in Mexico. Perhaps its for the best?
See? Now that is treason.
Henry Kissinger was a dick because he enabled Pinochet, so says what I assume is a communist scholar.
This one is actually fun. Venezuelans voted to annex a part of neighboring Guyana. Guyana is former British/Dutch colony and is possibly the screwiest country in South America. However, no vote was held in Guyana. The way the corporate press is covering the story has more to do with the level of election turnout in Venezuela and how it doesn’t reflect the opinion of Venezuelans annexing part of a neighboring country. As if the opinion of Guyanans is somehow irrelevant to the entire situation.
I’m only posting this as a music link because I saw Amy Lee aged like a white woman from the US and was saddened by the whole thing.
Does HR ever do anything useful?
No.
Mine managed to screw up making lil smokies in BBQ sauce.
1. Put smokies and sauce in crock pot.
2. Turn on crock pot.
3. Profit??
…and yet he failed.
Pam Poovey is the only acceptable HR resource.
My HR rocks…he has a whole cabinet of my violations and we giggle over them.
HR screws up as much as any other dept. (cough, couch IT Cough cough) but the real job of HR is compliance. Either gov’t compliance, or doing what the C-suite wants. And, on both counts, those things suck for the rank and file.
DEI is a whole ‘nother kettle of fish though. Most of the time, HR wants nothing to do with those r-tards, but sometimes they get joined at the hip, and older, more experienced HR people do what they can to keep away from them.
Look – What we give you works perfectly. You are the ones who mess it up with “Business Requirements”, “Workflow”, and “I want to be able see my data”.
Does HR ever do anything useful?
They just laid off a bunch of people this morning.
Were they in HR?
I used to make it a point to not work for any company that had an HR department, but that’s nearly impossible these days.
I worked with a guy from Guyana who used to eat monkeys.
Government jobs… monkey’s brains (though popular in Cantonese cuisine!)… is Tim Curry doing the links today?
“We are all animals … Most are too afraid to see it.”
Did he play a part in Temple of Doom?
Like, professionally?
No; Tater’s work is strictly amateur.
Sexually…its a weird place.
What does he eat now?
“The electoral council, however, did not explain whether the number of votes was equivalent to each voter or if it was the sum of all the answers.”
That makes Common Core seem sane.
I figured a translation issue.
Is Guyana still part of the Commonwealth?
Well, England keeps a task force in the Falklands, shouldn’t be too hard to get a steamer up there.
Yes
“Should we steal resources from our neighbors to try to prop up our socialism?”
What a shock that they voted “Sure!”
When you run out of other people’s money, eventually you have to find new other people. Otherwise the whole system falls apart.
You’d think they’d vote themselves some of Guyana’s food.
A woman has been killed in an apparent shark attack at a beach resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The woman, who has not been officially named, was found dead by emergency services at the scene in Melaque Bay, Cihuatlán municipality, on Saturday, according to a statement from the local civil protection and fire service, posted on Facebook.
One of the victim’s legs had been severed, according to the statement, which said the injury appeared to have been caused by a shark attack.
The mayor says that it was a boating accident.
I blame climate change.
Therefore Trump.
My second favorite cover photo for Tuesdays.
“How not a SINGLE electric vehicle charging station has been constructed in the two years since Biden demanded $7.5 BILLION be spent on a nationwide network”

Your tax dollars at work.
Sounds about right.
Hopefully the money got spent, be a shame to leave it going to waste.
“Next year we’re doing more so we’ll need X2 as much”
In completely unrelated news, the top 1% keep getting richer and the Democratic party’s coffers are still full.
7.5 billion isn’t going to fund those things across New York City let alone the United States.
Sure, Jan.
It’s worth it if that money gets diverted to anything other than installing charging stations. We have a network of gas stations all over the country perfectly capable of energizing the millions of useful vehicles we already have. Paying 7.5 billion to subsidize electricity for people who already virtue signal by buying expensive, subsidized, cars just pisses me off.
“House subcommittee should REJECT Biden Administration’s proposal allowing trans athletes to compete in women’s sports, ex-college swimmer Riley Gaines tells Congress: ‘Americans know this is not fair'”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-12829075/Congress-transgender-athletes-womens-sports.html
I’m against males in women’s sports, but it shouldn’t be a federal issue either way. The problem is the sanctioning bodies.
“‘First, policies excluding trans girls and women from school sports programs threaten all women and girls who excel in athletics, and all who depart from gender stereotypes, by encouraging challenges that place burdens on women to prove they are ”real” women and creating risks of intrusive and harmful sex verification practices.
‘Black and brown women and girls who play school sports are at particularly high risk of harm under these policies, because Black and brown women are often viewed as ‘nonconforming’ with white-centric standards of femininity.
Second, these policies reinforce a false binary by assuming that those assigned male at birth are inevitably and inherently athletically superior and those identified as female are inherently weaker and less athletic.
‘This reductive narrative harms all women and girls. We see it demonstrated in the over-resourcing of men’s sports programs and the chronic failure to invest in women’s sports programs.’ ”
CWAC
We’re only beating you for your own good.
Second, these policies reinforce a false binary by assuming that those assigned male at birth are inevitably and inherently athletically superior and those identified as female are inherently weaker and less athletic.
I beg you then, why separate them at all?
80% of all men are stronger that 80% of all women. Half of all men are stronger than elite women’s athletes.
And that doesn’t change when you take hormones and tack on tits.
Correct
Thing is, none of the ones I’ve seen have tits, or seem to be making a sincere effort to transition.

They’re just dudes with a fetish who want to force society to participate in their kink.
Learn to pass and lie low and nobody will care, but that isn’t what they want.
I don’t even know if they have a fetish, or its just a new way to cheat at sports.
That aside, even if they were feminine presenting, they would still have an unfair advantage.
Good grief. It’s unbelievable how far they’ve carried this nonsense.
People are just too terrified to object.
I have 3 kids, and all have played soccer at some point. It is true that at U9/U7 the athletic advantages are not yet universal. But even at that age, if there is going to be a kid that dominates it is always a boy.
Puberty is when testosterone and estrogen turn children into men and women.
The woke either don’t understand this. Or they do, and they push puberty blockers on children.
Either way, the trans movement has moved beyond protection of equal rights and into the destruction of young people.
My wife is studying for her personal training certification. In one chapter it listed 8-10 physiological differences between male and female. There’s a lot more to it than bigger muscles. And those changes don’t go away when you switch hormones.
Yes.
Strength is the obvious thing that is easy to point out to trans-nuts.
But it’s lots of things. Skeletal structure, muscle mass, reaction times, and so on.
It’s almost like this isn’t about sports.
lolwut I can’t even with this flapdoodle.
Yep; and a number of them have already made rulings. The problem in the US might be someone suing, say, the NCAA and someone invoking a civil rights law or Title IX or similar.
True it shouldn’t be but Gaines was there to oppose the Title IX rewrite on this.
I think AOC should be required to use the men’s restroom and locker rooms since says it’s no big deal.
We should not be having this conversation. In a sane world we would not be.
As an 18 year old Ensign, George H. W. Bush received his naval aviator training at NAS Fort Lauderdale (now Ft. Lauderdale International Airport). A museum sits between the airport and I-95, and is worth a few hours of your time. Folks who come to Lauderdale the day before GlibsCruise can check out the place, courtesy of me.
The other famous alumni of the base are Flight 19, which contributed to the legend of the Bermuda Triangle. They disappeared on this date in 1945.
We’re planning to come a day ahead. In fact, I just posted a comment in the GlibCruise thread. When you say “courtesy of me” do you mean you’ll have a car?
I’ll be driving down from Big College Town, so I’ll have an SUV. I can pick people up from FLL and take them to their hotel, to the museum, etc.
Have you picked a hotel yet?
I need to pick a hotel as well.
Not yet. There is no shortage of hotels that provide shuttle service to Port Everglades, either free or for a small fee. I’m leaning toward a Marriott or Hilton property near the Los Olas shopping district just north of the port.

WHYCOME HOOMANS LOOK AT SEA SMITH?! HE NO DISAPPEAR AIRPLANES!!!
Not even the flying boats?
By “disappear” mean …
I didn’t see anything screwier in the first six or seven minutes of that video than I have seen in any other poor shithole country. What’s so screwy?
They speak English, and its basically an enormous mining colony.
Also the president is an Arab.
The correct answer is Paraguay:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraguay
Sure Guyana’s more culturally Caribbean than South American but Paraguay’s history is just nuts.
Today is my little sister’s birthday. She’s lucky enough to share the date with Walt Disney. Meanwhile I got stuck with Miley Cyrus.

On the positive side, I get Twain (Mark, not Shania that I know of) and Churchill.
On the minus, Kristi Noem, Clay Aiken and Kaley Cuoco….
Mine is a complete and total shit show: https://www.famousbirthdays.com/january23.html
I get Brooke Shields, Clint Eastwood, Genghis Khan, Colin Farrell, Lea Thompson, Jim Hutton, and John Bonham, plus a bunch of supposedly famous people I don’t recognize.
Err, you know nobody knows what day Genghis Khan was born, right?
The “yes” vote in Sunday’s non-binding referendum was 95 percent, according to officials.
Were the choices “INVADE” or “TORTURE ME AND KILL MY FAMILY”?
Probably. Or only politicians could vote.
See, democracy at work. And since democracy approves of this invasion, that’s all that needs to be said. If the Guyanans didn’t want to be invaded, they shouldn’t have lost the vote.
Must be the week for odd bugs.
The explosion of crash reports from Cura on Raspbian was only to do with the UI. If I pointedly ignore the hundreds of crash report windows clogging the VNC display, the program keeps printing. It is still following the gcode template created during the slicing stage.
This is suboptimal, since it means I can’t watch the progress the way I’d intended, but maybe the appimage version doesn’t have this bug.
Also, check your SD card. Lots of bogus cards out there.
SD Card is working fine, no I/O errors, the crash complaint is about converting a Python ‘float’ object to a C++ ‘int’ instance. The thread trace is definately a UI Software issue.
Is the source available / usable? A little import math and math.floor() before you pass that to C++ leaps to mind.
Absolutely. Seems like half the Samsung cards on Amazon turn up fake. Then you have a massive system crash after doing a ton of work.
You can test SD cards with this:
https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html
Is this on Cura to OctoPrint?
As of 5.4 (I haven’t printed anything with 5.5) with OctoPrint connection it’s been pretty much dead reliable.
Mind you I’m running just the OctoPrint distro – not a full raspberry OS install.
I’m running a full Raspbian distro. Cura is running on the Pi, so that if the network drops the print won’t be interrupted.
More importantly, I thought it would be a waste to not also run other stuff there – like OpenSIMH
I went the simple approach, partly because I built it pre covid and prices weren’t nuts.
If you have another SD give octoprint a shot. There are also instructions for running octoprint on Raspian, but that looked like a PITA.
Also octoprint hosts the print as well. If the network fails it will continue the print.
The print finished and I was able to clean up the end result without any trouble.
So I’m looking into whether the appimage version can be made to work to get around the UI bug.
A hilarious quote from The Sum of All Fears:
“[The Russian leader] had done so in the knowledge that the only thing that kept Marxism in place was the threat of Soviet force. The Eastern European communists had foolishly played along, actually thinking themselves secure in the love and respect of their people in one of history’s most colossal and least understood acts of lunacy … [the common people] loved the communists even less than their great-grandfathers had loved the czars.”
is Tim Curry doing the links today?

You think that they could throw in a map of the disputed region when they are talking about the fun in Venezuela.
I can’t believe I have to enact my own labor.
That claim is just absurd. Clearly the border is further west, in land Venezula is illegally occupying now.
Google Maps shows the disputed territory and its borders as if this was common knowledge. I am a map nerd and I’ve never seen this depicted anywhere before.
…
Just checked my NatGeo atlas – nothin’. It DOES show a disputed border between Guyana and Suriname.

Er, the second two paras should be this:
The cost in life, limb, and property incurred by this particular poetic truth would be bad enough. But I fear that, in the aftermath, when the embers have cooled and Chauvin’s name has been forgotten by everyone save his family, the true danger of the poetic truth of George Floyd will come to fruition. It will be written in books alongside uncontroversial facts, treated with the passive acceptance of any other historical occurrence, and absorbed into the storehouse of common knowledge that binds us as a culture. The deep epistemic corruption at the heart of the affair will become, if it goes unchallenged, imperceptible to future generations, simply more evidence that the world is as the poetic truth has determined it to be.
Perhaps it’s fitting, then, that YouTube has deemed this clip from my latest conversation with John McWhorter inappropriate for anyone under the age of 18. Unless you’re 18 or older and logged into your YouTube account, you won’t be able to view it. If you see fit, please share it widely, as the algorithm won’t be doing it any favors. My team considered taking it down and hosting it on Substack instead. But I think it’s better that it stays as it is. Let it bear that mark of censoriousness, the better to remind us that the goal of truth’s suppression is not condemnation but forgetting.
Ackshully, Guyana was a British colony and the other country next door that no one knows about was Dutch, Suriname. The one next to that was colonized by the French, French Guiana.
Nuh uh.
That video was the first hit. Its a contestant in the shithole olympics.
The Dutch were the first Europeans colonizing Guyana. The British took over in the late 18th century when the French invaded the Netherlands. British control was made official with the Netherlands ceding Guyana to the British in the early 19th century.
The Dutch and British disputed Suriname, with both countries controlling Suriname at different points.
From what little I saw about it — I think they’re just claiming inheritance of Greater Columbia in the name of Simon Bolivar or something… I guess it is snazzier than Greater South American Co-Prosperity Sphere.
I’m in the Yucatan researching another MAMIL post, and I gotta say I’m tired of all the scammers here.
But worse than the scammers is the lack of gay couples, mixed race couples and unattractive people in their advertising. Biden needs to sign an executive order to establish the DIECorps to enlighten these people.

Bets against the value of Israeli companies spiked in the days before the October 7th Hamas attacks, suggesting some traders may have had advance knowledge of the looming terror attack and profited off it, according to new research released Monday.
The preliminary research, which hasn’t been peer reviewed, is from law professors at Columbia University and New York University and details a “significant” and “unusual” spike five days before the attacks in short selling in the most popular fund linked to Israeli companies. Short selling is a way to bet against the value of a security.
Those bets against the value of the MSCI Israel Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) in the days before the October 7 attack “far exceeded” the short selling activity that took place during the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2014 Israel-Gaza war and the 2008 global financial crisis, the paper finds.
Frontrunning the attacks? Daddy Warbucks has a stiffie.
That’s a good thing for Israeli intelligence to keep an eye on. I seem to recall similar shenanigans around other attacks.
Good morning! she trilled.
So what kind of a schedule are you on these days? Or are you in Tokyo?
Or are you only speaking to Glibs in Asia?
Normie schedule. I’m just being cheeky.
Normie? Like getting up at 6 a.m.?
I’m pretty sure that’s the default on my alarm clock. 😉
Oh, not THAT normie, no. I usually get up between 8 and 9, but I make most of my/kid’s doctor appointments as early as possible. I cannot stand sitting in a waiting room past my appointment time, so I try to work around that.
Re: waiting for ob/gyn appointments, many years ago a co-worker pointed out that “it takes a long time to get those instruments cold.”
Not if you dip them in liquid nitrogen. 😳
I get up by 4:30 to start work at 6.
Mornin’
So, yeah. Look at the picture. Another way to define women in relation to men in a quest to erase women altogether.

I get that culture thing. It’s just that I’m not willing to take the chance that some idiot will mix the two in that environment.
OG Burning Man really does sound interesting – a genuine and relatively long-lived Temoprary Autonomous Zone. The current version, meh. Sounds like it has a certain narcissistic flavor which doesn’t appeal to my taste. But I’ve never been, so what do I know?
I’ve read RAW. His magnum opus didn’t really do much for me, but some of his other stuff was actually pretty influential for me.
