Remember those heady days…

Yes, it is January 6th. The third anniversary of the Not an Insurrection at the US Capitol. The derp is flowing strong.

Links?

In commemoration of the day.

What does it mean that nobody noticed he was missing?

This is pretty cool.

And out of the other side of NASA’s mouth.

OFFS.

But I’ll stop worrying about being cyber kidnapped.

“We’d like to get down.” Ya think?

Later, Wayne. You hung around way too long.

Okay, that’s good for today. It’s cold and damp across much of the country, snuggle in and stay warm!

Derp alert! Derp alert!

You still have Christmas cards out?

      • Ownbestenemy

Don’t judge. A lot came late cause of new address

      • Ted S.

This year, we got the tree down early.

Last year, we didn’t put it up at all since we were preparing to move.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Wife had most of the stuff down on Dec 27th this year. The tree came down Jan 1. I still need to take the external lights down, but it has been snowy the last few days. The Christmas cards we received are still up, but they’re the last internal vestige.

Wife used to be the “extend it through January” type, but now that we have kids in the toy receiving age range, she’s sick of the clutter by the end of Christmas day.

      • Gustave Lytton

What’s wrong with you people? Today is only the 12th day of Christmas. Nothing goes down before Epiphany.

Later this month, a working group – recently set up by the International Astronomical Union and headed by Green – will meet UN officials to start negotiations that would, it is hoped, lead to a strengthening of legislation for protecting interplanetary resources.

    Stop it. You’re killing me.

    • trshmnstr the terrible

How do they foresee this actually working? To govern, you need to be able to project force. Is the UN in possession of space laser batteries that I’m not aware of?

Decades of gun rights advocacy have kept the NRA at the center of GOP politics, even as gun violence has soared throughout the country.

According to the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer, violent crime has been essentially cut in half since 1991, and I assume that firearms crimes have followed suit. Which means either Axios is doing some extreme cherry-picking, or they’re simply lying through their teeth. And they have the audacity to call that section ‘Reality Check.’

  4. Gustave Lytton

    NRA fights fading influence

Yeah, because they were fucking quisling squishes, not because they were too hardcore.

    • Sensei

      Winner. Plus the cop worship.

      • Shpip

I once had a hoplophobe ask me if I was a member of the NRA.

I told her that I didn’t support any gun control organizations.

She was a bit dumbfounded by that description.

      • Gustave Lytton

The funny thing is that WLP was the one who wrote the “jack booted thugs” letter and then backtracked after the media fueled outrage. I suspect such a letter would have had more visible support now without the MSM to control the narrative.

    • trshmnstr the terrible

One thing they could do is stop sending me mail with “gun confiscation notice” and other similar click bait splashed across the envelope.

It’s bad enough that they’re an increasingly worthless 2A advocate, but they have to descend to that bullshit? Either be the “above the fray” organization or engage in the fight. The scare tactics are unbecoming of such an organization.

  5. R.J.

I celebrated today by breaking at least a half-dozen laws. Then I had pizza.

  6. Mojeaux

And so. The Stillers pull ot out against the second string.

      • Tres Cool

Thanks. He had a good [dons sunglasses] ….run

    • creech

It must be hard for gamblers to pick winners and losers this last week of the season, what with desperate teams still in the playoff hunt, secure teams resting the first string, and loser teams wanting to lose again to get a higher draft pick.

      • pistoffnick

…loser teams wanting to lose again to get a higher draft pick.

On Friday evening, at his own rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, Mr. Trump fired back, calling Mr. Biden’s remarks “pathetic fear-mongering” and again accusing him, without any evidence, of wielding federal law enforcement to attack his political opponents.

The stakes are especially personal for Mr. Trump given the 91 felony charges against him

      lol.

      • Sensei

Damn. Now he has no chance in Illinois.

      • J. Frank Parnell

In part of the oath, candidates declare that they are not communists nor affiliated with communist organizations and in another part, which is more applicable to today, candidates swear that they “do not directly or indirectly teach or advocate the overthrow of the government of the United States or of this state or any unlawful change in the form of the governments thereof by force or any unlawful means.”

Well, at least it keeps the commies out of office.

President Joe Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican 2024 presidential candidate, signed the oath, according to WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times. Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley, former South Carolina governor and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Chris Christie, former New Jersey governor, did not sign the oath.

Oh shit, what are Haley and Christie planning?

      • rhywun

Thank goodness Biden is not going to be a communist.

    • Ownbestenemy

Mr. Trump has pointed out that such efforts to remove him from the ballot have been pushed in part by Democrats, but he rarely mentions that both decisions have been put on hold pending legal appeals — a sign of democratic institutions at work, not being undermined.

Oh so I am sure all your articles ran with he wasn’t really taken off the ballot somewhere in your first pr second paragraph and not buried deep into the article? Maybe even a bullet point highlight of the article.

The Steelers beat the Ravens, partly due to key Ravens sitting out and partly due to steady rain that made for turnovers and dropped passes.

So Steelers can still get in the playoffs but it’s not in their hands: key other teams have win or tie, plus the entrails of a duck have be favorable.

  12. Lackadaisical

    “In commemoration of the day.”

I checked into it and apparently only 3 people are confirmed to have had weapons during the event (and as we know, the protestors didn’t kill anyone).

If it was an insurrection, it was a terribly half assed one.

    • dbleagle

Plus the name “CHAZ” was already used.

Quite sad insurrection really. They should have learned from those proud patriots in Seattle.

      • Tres Cool

        Or Portland. Or OWS.
Those cats really knew how to throw down.

    • prolefeed

The kind of “insurrection” where nobody is convicted on insurrection charges.

It’s like reporting that someone was obviously guilty of driving100 mph, so their driving license should be yanked, even though they were not convicted on any speeding charges.

I’m picturing the honeytrap site FedGov uses to host all of these 3D printer files.

      • Shpip

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives opened an investigation on Clark after he sold several privately made firearms, the spokesperson said.

Over one month, investigators saw Clark selling five 3D-printed Glock-style pistol frames, a 3D-printed AR-15 rifle lower receiver, and two machinegun conversion devices.

Machinegun conversion devices, sometimes called Glock switches or auto-sears, are devices that convert regular semiautomatic firearms into fully automatic machineguns, the spokesperson said.

These conversion devices are considered machine guns under federal law, even when not installed. They are illegal to possess or sell in almost all cases, the spokesperson said.

You can now get federal prison time for 3-D printing a piece of plastic. Sometimes I think peak woodchipper can’t get here fast enough.

      • Tres Cool

        What law did hw break?

      • Gustave Lytton

Catching up on another older movie, just watched Michael Mann’s “The Keep” vua import DVD (region free). Excellent concept but some distinct pacing issues. Definitely see why it makes the list of Lovecraftian flicks, but I think it really has more in common with (the admittedly inspired by Lovecraft) Robert E Howard short story “The Black Stone” – particularly with the concept of the massive underworld below the initial location. (Now a good adaptation of that story would be amazing.
