Kung fu night! Get out the popcorn and prepare for entertainment!
This is a South African kung fu film that used American-style scripting techniques and plot devices to appeal to a broader audience. Did it work? Well, I enjoyed it. This rode in about 1981, during a big wave of kung fu popularity. This is a sequel to Kill or Be Killed, which is good (has Nazis keeping people in cages), but in no way as over the top and fun as tonight’s film. So I just went straight for the sequel. Enjoy almost non-stop action, absurd kung fu stunts, a dwarf, bullet blocking, mustaches, mind control and much more!
Our main character is played by a B-movie superstar named James Ryan. He is from South Africa, like Elon, and has been in 25 films so far (unlike Elon). He should not be confused with the James Ryan who just started on General Hospital, that is a different James Ryan. One place you might recognize tonight’s James Ryan from is From Dusk to Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money. He played a Mexican sheriff.
There is not a whole lot more to say about this film, other than to mention that Doctor Horatio Kane’s daughter is named Kandy Kane. There are also characters named Gorilla and Hot Dog. Clearly a film of distinction! This was at one point chosen for RiffTrax, which is also a badge of honor for a B movie.
So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary until you find out you can’t really block a bullet with a wood plank! Next week, I hope to get us back to a schedule. It’s been interesting here at Casa RJ, and my time has been short.

What time is it?
Kung Fu Ass Kicking Time!
My posts go out five minutes early at 6:55 CST.
Scenario Cobalt Nightmare time?
The bad guy has the fakest fake beard ever.
Close but….
One episode of the original Dark Shadows had the actor playing Roger Collins had his fake mustache come unglued. It stuck on one side and was dangling to one side of his mouth…a full vertical dangle. Dude did not miss a beat, and better yet it got into the final cut.
Verticle dangle…that has to be good for something. I will remember it for future use.
Verticie Dangle is an excellent new Glib handle.
I wasn’t allowed to watch Dark Shadows when I was a kid – my mom said it would give me nightmares. Fast forward many years, and shortly after the SciFi channel was added to our cable TV lineup, I was home from work sick and discovered they were showing VERY early episodes of Dark Shadows during the day. “My house, my rules!” I declared as I started to watch.
The production values were horrible, and even I, unfamiliar with the characters, figured out quickly that the actors were calling each other by the wrong names among other flubs.
I didn’t watch any more episodes.
I watched a lot over the years. I still find it amusing, in small doses.
So it wasn’t nightmares because of the subject matter but because of how bad it is?
As an adult and having once briefly studied TV production, that was probably the greater danger.
Back to childhood, I once caught part of a later episode while visiting a friend’s house after school. (They had a color TV!) For some reason, that night I had occasion to sleep in my oldest sister’s bedroom (She was gone, but I forget where,) and between the unfamiliar room at night and the power of suggestion, I DID get a bit creeped out.
This is a South African kung fu film that used American-style scripting techniques and plot devices to appeal to a broader audience.
Interesting, though I will not join tonight. I will get to this over the weekend.
thanks RJ!
This film is a riot. You’ll love it.
ooo… can’t wait to watch this tonight.
Until I can watch this, I will practice my judo chops. Hopefully, no one here at work will accidentally get hurt. That would be terrible.
Take out some particle board desktops for me.
Gotta practice my moves.
But do you have the moves like Jagger?

Zwak gets it. Add a dash of James Coburn from In Like Flint and a dollop of Peter Sellers from Shot in the Dark, and you have the style I’m trying to master
One thing – the sound quality is poor. This movie needed some sound equalization. Super loud music, then quiet dialog.
No out of synch dubbing? Misspelled subtitles and poor grammar?
Not too bad on sound sync.
I have the incredible luxury of watching on a TV with the sound on, so I have not checked out subtitles unlike most evenings.
psssst… equalization is frequency, compression is level, although super loud music, then quiet dialog would be fixed by hand.
“Uneven, perhaps alarming volume control” is a better description.
Mind-controlling [REDACTED] drug?
The abbreviation for it is MSNBC.
Hey, one of the California lurkers found this:

First and First Again is the name of my third memoir.
Did you have a friend named Hot Dog?
Giacomo Casanova?
From an article I read today:
***
F-16s require long, smooth runways; the fighter aircraft will struggle to land and take off on Ukraine’s bombed-out runways.
***
I continue to be amazed at how often the simplest logistical considerations are ignored.
Long and smooth is always a consideration?

Apparently not always.
Interesting take on the Tucker-Putin interview over at The People’s Cube.

I have another long Friday ahead of me, so I am heading to sleep. I hope you all have a great evening snarking and posting news articles! Because that is what is best in life.
Our Vietnam Vet lurker had his prostate out today, I hope he is somewhat comfortable in hospital tonight, watching this absurd movie. Get home soon!
Why should a man wait until the end of his physical exam to have his prostate checked?
It gives him something to look forward to.
When getting your prostate checked, it’s important to get a second opinion right away.
That’s why you should ask your doctor to use two fingers.
Get better soon, Vet-lurker-Tulpa.
Prostates out for Harambe?
This is really bad.
That was an interesting glimpse into the Afrikaner culture of the day.
The culture that raised Elon.
For Zwak, in the world’s slowest discussion: you used the word requirement, not sure how that is different from a mandate.
Finally. *clicks*
…And he never commented again. Was it that bad?
Hey! Good morning to all you Glibs and our .gov lurkers!

Good morning, Sean! ::slurps coffee::
Morning.
Good morning, U! How are you today?
I’m awake. There is something to be said for that.
Overrated. Unless you’re driving.
It is easier to log into work on time if I’m not snoozing.
Ah, that’s true. But THEN you can snooze! 😴
I’ve had two boxes in transit for much of the week. They’ve been on the same truck at every node (based on the timestamps) The tracking says they’re on the truck for delivery today, but one of them still insists that the extimated delivery is monday.
We always assume if it hasn’t left a hub after 3 days, its been taken by [insert delivery service/contractor here].
Having worked UPS, its not a bad assumption.
I may have not been clear – the boxes have been moving quite steadily in terms of the tracking values and are currently out for delivery. I’m just amused that even through they’ve clearly been on the same vehicle every step along the way and are out for delivery today, one still insists on estimating arrival monday.

I agree the model should include two additional sets — honesty and trustworthy.
It’s always something. I have a package coming from Great Britain. Royal Mail proudly announced it was delivered an astonishing two days after shipment. They showed a picture of where it was delivered. It was the floor of a global delivery hub.
Who knows when I will actually get it.
The royal mail has delivered it to where they needed it to go.
Just now I got a mail from the global hub, they are sending it overseas.
This is comical on so many levels. “Equity” in itself, but MS is making up for it with that 7 thousandths of a penny per every dollar made by the white man! That should shore things up. And why women outside the US get so little. Is it that MS quietly doesn’t value all the brown womenz?
Er..7 hundredths of a penny, 7 thousandths of a dollar; I think? Coffee, its here somewhere
Try 7 tenths of a penny, 7 thousandths of a dollar.
But your point stands.
I’d love to take that judge-shopping, assuming there is one left who actually follows the civil rights laws as written.
An Afrikaner playing a Messican? Don’t they yank your passport for that?

Well, I missed 100 comments. I might as well take up all the rugs and get ready for STEVE SMITH. I can hear the conversation now.
“ME GOT CONTACT FROM SWISS MAN. SILLY GREEN MAN NOT MAKE COMMENT QUOTA, STEVE SMITH COME TO MAKE QUOTA. BY MAKE QUOTA MEAN…”
