It’s getting near course-dropping deadline and my intro chemistry class is clearing out. Same pay, less grading. Hmmm…. apparently my “I don’t care if you live or die” attitude is a positive.
And because there’s death, there’s also life, and today’s birthdays include a guy who painted them like his French girls; the Italian Taylor Swift; the best friend the US arms industry ever had; the dreamy one in the boy band; a man of limited vision; the Best Bond Villain ever, and I shall not allow any argument; a writer who could teach Boris Johnson about hair care; an athlete who couldn’t even beat a girl; a guy who could fairly be called the Father of Bluegrass; a guy who showed that being the third out of four wasn’t a bad gig; and a great candidate for “Least Funny and Creepiest Comedian”.
Now let’s get to Links before I lose everyone here.
Nobody wants Biden versus Trump, so what we are going to have is Biden versus Trump.

Oh man at if Swiss comes across this he’s going to be super heated.
I hope he doesn’t blow a gas-ket.
That is a sub-cool joke, just not up to our standards here a Glibs.
I have absolute zero respect for this pun
Yes, good job.

“Embattled DA Fani Willis claims new cellphone data putting Nathan Wade near her home before pair say affair began is ‘not relevant”
Not even bothering to deny it, huh?
Oh, they tried. BF says the cell phone data is wrong wrong wrong. That’s not a video of me and those aren’t crumbs on my face.
Bitch set him up.
Letters of Marque and reprisal on the open seas are one thing – if the Houthis had a navy….but this is still a thing that does have repercussions on US/international trade and costs to consumers directly and downstream.
And as I posted earlier this week, they have hit ships owned by US companies already.
Compared to Syria, Ukraine, etc – these are completely justifiable actions constitutionally.
“And as I posted earlier this week, they have hit ships owned by US companies already.”
But not US flagged, right? In my mind that changes the arithmetic.
If only we weren’t dicking around all over the world they wouldn’t have any incentive to hit our ships in the first place.
They’re shooting at ships completely randomly. The US owned ship was carrying relief supplies to Yemen as it had done over 10 times previously. The only exceptions I’ve seen reported is them specifically NOT targeting CCP owned cargo ships (but that was a couple months ago and may have begun to change).
They’re shooting at ships they claim are going to Israeli ports. But, they’re not a party to the war.
Yemen is, however, a party to the treaty that allows free passage through the Bab al Mandeb (the strait at the south end of the Red Sea) as the strait is too narrow to have international waters. Blockading such a strait is an act of war; it was Egypt’s blocking the strait at the end of the Gulf of Aqaba that led to the Six-Day War in 1967.
Then get a declaration of war by Congress and we can talk.
Doing more of the same that got us here in the first place isn’t the answer.
It is always tempting to pick a side but this story, unsurprisingly, has no good guys. Assholes all around.
Yeah; open international trade/shipping lanes is a tragedy of the commons problem. It’s been amazing to see people eager to throw it away just to try to claim a win against the US foreign policy establishment.
they have hit ships owned by US companies already.
That doesn’t seem a constitutional justification- especially with no declared war. Just because a ship is owned by an American company doesn’t make it American territory in the same sense as an embassy. Marque and reprisal are not, AFAIK, limited to targets on the open seas.
You’d think the Egyptians would be the most upset. The Suez is a cash cow for then.
I don’t really know much about them. We could maybe talk to them and find out what they’re thinking.
They have dark skin and are disobedient to our wishes – there is only ONE thing to do!!!
They are blocking a major route for international trade. Right, wrong, legal or illegal I think most of the world is fine with us clearing that up. It will happen one way or another. Also, the majority of those people also have dark skin.
The only color that matters here is green.
From what I gather from our unreliable media, they’re thinking “How can we help kill a lot of Jews.”
Or “we better do what Iran tells us to do.”

(And before anyone pounces like a Republican… I’m not serious about any of those as complaints.. Just had to make up something…
More seriously — I don’t think I ever complained that way when I dropped a class — don’t think I dropped any by the time I matured and went back for my BSCS… the BSNE days where I probably should have taken a year or two off to get settled and serious but where I probably still would have hated 2nd order DiffEqs and sucked at them it would have been more like “I suck at this and it will kill my GPA below the level to maintain my scholarships I need to stick around” or “I’ve gotten in the habit of staying up all night video gaming or goofing around in the computer lab and didn’t get the fundamentals right to take this class right now” [Told you I should have matured before the first try]).
Anyway, morning all!
The argument against Fani is that thise two are going after people for making false statements, and they just did the same thing under oath.
I think we all covered this yesterday. If OMWC still disagrees… so be it. Not going to rehash it today.
Sorry I was absent yesterday 🤷♂️
Don’t sweat it… sorry I didn’t realize you missed it, just expressing more than anything that I wasn’t going to repeat-rant.
As usual, the disagreement was vigorous, informed, and totally amiable.
Yet another demonstration of how out-of-step this place is with the rest of the country.
Totally amiable? Where is the fun in that?
Not to mention that they are so dishonest about the fundamentals that the judge can’t trust their word on anything. Who wants to deal with people that have such a tenuous grasp of the truth that you have to go outside to check if they tell you the sky is blue? The brazen stupidity of lying under oath on something so easily disprovable is impressive though.
Oh I’m sure Judge Engoron would find them absolutely trustworthy.
We hold trials to prevent government abuses of the criminal legal system. Technically, nobody is declared innocent at trial, only that the state didn’t produce enough valid evidence to punish them for what they are accused of. IOW, trials aren’t about discovering the truth, no matter what the lawyers say. They are about deciding whether to punish this person for that crime.
We dismiss cases because the government got evidence proving the defendant guilty in the wrong way (“fruit of the poisonous tree”), because the government abused its power in that case. I’m comfortable that perjury, embezzlement, and bribery by the government in the person of the prosecutor, can be grounds for dismissing the case, especially when those crimes are committed in connection with that very case.
Thank you, I learned this in my constitutional law class and it drives my nuts when some dipshit on TV proclaims someone was “found innocent”.
Suck….. fest…. suckfest! Suckfest… yep yep yep yep!
Nobody in SC seems to want Haley vs anybody.
Didn’t she already lost to ‘no one’ already and subsequently declared it a victory?
Yes, in NV.
CNN posted how badly she lost. It was 59% to 39%. In her home state, where she was governor.
https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/south-carolina-primary-02-24-24/index.html
She dissed the flag.
*starts whistling “Dixie””
I would also accept “Europe” or let China start to play with their blue water navy since they get more of their oil from that region and all. One of the many reasons I favor nationalism and harvesting resources locally (since we have that privilege, admittedly… nice to have a resource rich continent and all) over the Global Economy… less reason to get tied up fighting for trade routes.
12% of *global* trade passes through the Suez canal. That includes a lot of stuff going/coming from the US – not just Europe. Costs of going round the horn would increase downstream costs for everyone.
At this point, I seriously no longer care. I don’t consider it our job to go clear every sea lane that might save a company some time and money. Whatever the hell we get from overseas could be brought back on-shore quite often… let the rest of the world clean up its own mess again, more than high time for them to start paying their own way again instead of expecting us to be the muscle everywhere.
Our economy is not at all dependent on international trade – we could get by fine with a small reduction in that. The bigger risk of that disengagement is the dollar could be replaced as the global exchange, and then ALL of our inflation stays here on our dirt.
You’re going with that? When it’s so difficult to even find products made in this country?
We are dependent on imports because we don’t make much at all.
Frankly — “We’re dependent on globalism because it is so easy to use slaves and poison rivers as long as we don’t see it.” isn’t all that convincing to me either. Not letting the rest of the world have control of your supply chains matters to me too.
If we don’t make anything here, we’re dependant on those foreign slaves whether we like it or not.
It’s not a should be argument it’s a “this is the mess we’re stuck in”. I’m all for onshoring industry. It just hasn’t happened at any scale.
Fair enough. I’m in more of a “onshoring would be easier if we’d stop bleeding the country dry protecting offshoring” mood today. I sound like a f’ing proggie I know… but there’s a “true cost” argument to be made there where the hidden costs of running around with the Navy because the rest of the world knows we will isn’t in the corporate bottom lines.
So apologies if my mind is on a tangent and not directly on your point.
You’re not wrong SDF.
maybe there’s a reason tariffs were used by the original Fed gov. All of it could be earmarked for the Navy and whatever they get is what they get. Then they would bear the true cost of importation and exportation.
But . . . muh cheap crap!
https://authenticity50.com/pages/a-guide-to-finding-american-made-products
And that is just consumer goods. A list of industrial goods would dwarf it. We do make quite a lot in this country, just not nearly as much cheap crap as is made in China, India, Vietnam, etc.
Right now we don’t mine or process lithium but we could do both (having both the resource and the know-how) – absent the green idiots vote.
Very good point.
Then again, not all things made in China are cheap; a lot of very well made things come from there, but the savings by using a cheaper labor source* are passed on to the US/world customers.
*slave labor, wage slaves, under paid, chop shops, scabs, etc. Lots fall under this category.
Thanks, bookmarked.

I don’t think the dollar’s status as a reserve currency is based on us having a certain proportion of international trade. I think it’s based, these days, on the fact that the tax base the government can draw on to support the dollar is the biggest and most stable in the world. Now, when the growth in outstanding dollars sufficiently outruns that tax base (via increases in outstanding government debt), that’s when the reserve currency is in danger.
Money is mostly a confidence game. We kick ourselves out of being World Police and everyone is going to lose confidence in us. Whatever triggers a collapse in U.S. currency will trigger a global economic collapse – until some other currency establishes itself as a viable alternative. I prefer not to live to see that.
Me, too.
I think we can play world police all we want, and it doesn’t really help maintain the dollar as a reserve currency. A strong, stable dollar would still be the reserve currency if we pulled back on 90% of our overseas entanglements. Bankers don’t care who you’re killing today, just whether you can pay your bills.
Banks are part of the political establishment, not some independent commercial entities.
Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.
“Funding for military construction and the departments of Agriculture, Energy and Water, Veterans Affairs, Transportation and Housing and Urban Development elapse on Friday. The remaining eight spending bills expire on March 8.”
Besides veterans affairs (and of be curious what would actually get shut off) I’m not seeing any problems here.
“These bills will be littered with singles and doubles that we should be proud of, especially in our small majority,” he added.”
If only there was something the Republicans could have avoided to keep their majority stronger. They wouldn’t even have to have kept Santos, just insist on voting out one of the most terrible Dems with him, and if they don’t play ball, keep Santos in.
“The source familiar with the call noted that “everything is still fluid” because negotiations were still underway over the weekend, and that Johnson “characterized many different scenarios how the next week could go.”
He’s all lubed up, just waiting to see how the Dems want to stick it in.
“The current shutdown showdown marks the fourth time this Congress lawmakers are racing the clock to keep the lights on in Washington.”
Oh no, 1% of government might stop functioning. Thank God the Republicans are there to avert disaster.
Actually passing a budget isn’t even a gleam in anyone in DC’s eye anymore, I note.
DOT would shut down air traffic control. No bueno. But having worked for fedgov through so-called shutdowns there is always a pile of money they can reprogram to keep “essential” operations going for a few days, if they want to. Remember how Obama found the money to keep NPS rangers on duty to keep people out of the parks.
Yeah – my bosses, who run piddly-ass government websites of no consequence, were deemed “essential” with the latest impending shutdown.
They will only shut down the high-profile public-facing jobs so have maximum impact, but the rest of the hidden bureaucrats just keep working as normal. It’s a scam.

Personally, I don’t even care if Fani & Nathan’s cancer cursed tryst is germane to the case. I’m rooting for Fani to be removed from her office and both of them to be disbarred.
Mal in Unum, Mal in Omnibus. Fani is entrusted with a very powerful, very public job, and if she is proven to be a liar in part of the case, it should be shown, and she should be removed.
That is why this is germane to the case.
Anyone have any suggestions for better candidates? A name?
They are all shitty.
Let’s keep shooting at the proxies and let the source of evil fester. It pays better than stamping it out at the source.

No, I am not paying a subscription fee for anyone…except for here of course.
In what way exactly is Musk smothering speech?
Bitching about MaryJane? I have been hearing that all of my life. How tiresome.
Modern politics is all about picking the least bad candidate, it is known, but seeing warwhore Haley getting trounced in SC is pretty damn sweet.
Yes it is. Tip of the iceberg and all, but yes, it is.
It is clear that most people are tired of the fake wars and international kabuki shows.
Honestly I was fine with DeSantis. He isn’t perfect… but no one is. Too bad his campaign ended up in the “Please Clap” range of impact — so here we are.
I can’t even think of anyone I’d support on the Jackass side of things. Manchin (if he was stupid enough to run) sunk himself as a flip-flopper when he let himself be suckered by “Sure… we’ll put in some stuff for those coal projects in WV, Joe… later…”. All the California crowd are just fucking insane and I can’t even believe they’re Senate candidates (or survived recall through bribery, but that’s this screwed up state)… AOC and the Squad are fortunately sinking themselves with part of the party through their current Gaza antics (and I hope wouldn’t play well to the squishy middle anyway). Bernie isn’t going to be allowed by the Evil Party anyway, and I don’t think he’d win the general….
Probably this all goes back to “The current ‘elite’ sucks balls and seems to be trying to make themselves worse every generation”. Yay….. it’s Black Pill Sunday! Stay tuned for the top twenty things to depress the shit out of you with Casey Kasem!
Or you could take the approach that politics doesn’t really matter, our lives will go on and we only make ourselves miserable by having higher expectations.
Except it most certainly does matter. 2030 to 2035? EV car mandate… how long until through insurance or explicit bans are my current vehicles no longer allowed?
Spending / minimum wage / energy production reduction policies — massive inflation. Direct impact to my wallet now and whether I’ll be able to live if and when the time comes for a fixed income existence.
Property taxes. Bond measures. “Reparations”.
Allowing the state to take children out of the home because their parents are “wrong thinkers”. Hell, tracking political opponents en masse because they disagree!
All this shit (and a lot more I didn’t think off the top of my head to list) fucking matters. A lot. And all of it has gotten worse over the last 4 years especially (last 24, really… thanks there W and you lot of assholes). So no, sorry — I don’t think my life will necessarily go on barring my tugging my fucking forelock and being a good pliable peasant, which I have zero interest in.
Mandate, shmandate. Reality will prevail, dreams will return to fairydust.
Property taxes. Bond measures. — generally supported by voters
“Reparations”. — a lot of talk from stupid people
Allowing the state to take children out of the home because their parents are “wrong thinkers”. Hell, tracking political opponents en masse because they disagree! — now you’re talking but the solution isn’t talk. It is a matter of extreme prejudice in dealing with this. I have no problem with people dying on those hills – as long as I’m pulling the trigger.
“Reality will prevail…”
Yes, it will. How long did it take for the USSR to return to fairydust? Some seventy years? In other words time enough for a generation of useful idiots to die off.
Hard lessons aren’t learned easily. And we don’t teach our politicians the lessons they so richly deserve.
Like the reality that several places in my neighborhood still have signs that say “masks preferred”?
That reality is the world is filled with stupid people. You just need to be reminded of that.

“X, the platform formerly known as Twitter”
Oh, how bitterly they miss their weaponized social media platform.
Anyone have any suggestions for better candidates?
Sure. Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, maybe Mike Lee. Tulsi Gabbard so we have a PILF. There’s probably a governor or two I’m overlooking.
PILF…..I like this…..
Work the local races—school boards, state representatives, etc.
That way, when the Federal positions open up, there are liberty-minded people with political experience, waiting in the wings.
Focus on persuading family members, coworkers, neighbors, as much as possible. I’m not sure how to do this, though. I’m more of a “keep my head down and my nose clean” type of guy. I’m basically George McFly at the start of BttF.

‘LGBTQ+ students’ rights.’
No one is even trying to stop them from being gay these days. The framing is top notch through out the article. Quality price of propane we’ve come to expect from the major opinion disseminators.
I watched the video exchange about porn in schools. Taylor first played ignorance of the content. When presented with examples and asked if she thinks they should be in schools Taylor deferred to experts.
If you aren’t fawning all over some attention whore, you are a hate-filled meanie bigot that wants them to die. What’s so hard to understand about that?
“But we will be able to secure a number of policy victories, both in bill text and report language”
The democrats get the spending they want and we get Times New Roman font and perfect grammar.
Clumsy hit piece made me love her more.
So clumsy the first word is “far-right”.
“Far Right” = Not explicitly of the left
Same goes for Nazi.
The more they use these incendiary terms the less effective they will be. More and more people will do this translation. This is why, when they have bleached a word to utter meaninglessness, they have to change vocabulary.
Yes, because pasting proof of someone talking out of both sides of your mouth is “far right”.
DrOtto – out East you still see a lot of the 2008-2012 rav4 series. I got my V6 in 2015 off the certified/pre-owned lot. 30000 miles for a good price. You can definitely feel the difference when accelerating to pass someone on a 2 lane road compared to my 2008 4cyl. Given the overall numbers I’ve seen quite a few of the v6 series out here, fewer of the LTD (fancy) label ones over the years though.
Interesting. The take rate on V6s in my region (Central TX) must have been small, so 4 cyls are what the dealers pushed here.
What happened with Jeep is that all the 6 cylinder cars flew off the lot and dealers had to sit on turbo 4’s. That was one reason for the death of the mid-sized Cherokee, which definitely needed a 6. The wrangler too, it just can’t pull beans with that turbo 4. It is too big.
Not an issue anymore since Jeep is going all electric/

I’m torn between three thought that the state will be encouraged by actually getting all the money they are trying to steal from Trump and the idea that they will have been successful at styming their political rivals and spurious grounds.
WRT random missile attacks:
Unless someone puts troops on the ground they are just going to continue.
Not sexy enough for us, we are looking forward to the war with China.
What is becoming clear, to me at least, is they are getting away from US troops on the ground as that is not being received well by the proles anymore, but are totally happy using other countries kids to fund the meat grinder.
Well let’s hope that Nikki doesn’t pay attention to this advice, and instead stays in the race and obliterates her political career. Then she might go do something useful with her life.
I remain convinced that she represents the GOPe section that is damned sure enough of the lawfare will stick, OMB will be evicted from the race… and then — well, she’s the only candidate still in there! And she can lose gracefully, the graft will continue and no one in the GOPe will have to worry about actually doing anything beyond sending out whining emails to get more money.
So why would she drop out before Election Day, much less the convention?
Plausible
The expectation that Trump is removed from the race, or simply assassinated is the only possible reason she’s still hanging around – and her donors haven’t pulled the plug. If she’s on the ballot, the Dems won’t even half to cheat. (But they may have to kill another Kennedy)

How is it any worse than me imagining the girl I saw on the subway?
The huge threat to society is coming from inside the government.
“How is it any worse than me imagining the girl I saw on the subway?”
Because white women vote?
But definitely a bigger threat than a little girl seeing a wiener-wagger in the bathroom.
Which isn’t happening. So pretty much the same thing. Create hobgoblin then pander votes.

And? Unless they’re angling for a percentage of her book sales for the marketing… I don’t really see the point. This isn’t 1910. The electorate isn’t going to have the vapors over a female romance novelist.
Honestly would expect that market to be thriving (as long as the authors don’t care about goodreads or other “review” sites of clucking scolds so adamant about their politics).
It’s interesting how this sort of information only ever seems to come out about Republicans. I don’t at all think it’s because Democrats are such boy scouts…

Damn Marcians.
Alec, 19, who graduated from Owasso High School last year, said things have become so dangerous in Oklahoma for LGBTQ+ youths that he has moved out of state. He spoke on the condition that he be identified by a nickname for safety reasons.
“As a person who was in those libraries and saw those bans on books that actually apply to my community, it was very scary seeing my state erasing the LGBTQ community as a whole, and saying that we are pornographic and that we are unacceptable and inappropriate for people to just exist around and to learn about,” Alec said. “We are simply just existing.”
Of Raichik, he said, “Seeing her villainize children for existing as queer individuals is disgusting. I think it is dangerous.”
The world must adapt itself to my psychosis.
So fucking tedious.
Likely that story is scripted bullshit.
Even if true, he is way overstating what happened.
Well, which is it? He moved to a safe place, or he needs a pseudonym to be safe?
I would oppose books in elementary school libraries that had explicit heterosexual sex in them.
I’m an equal opportunity oppressor.
Or, I would be, if my wife and I didn’t homeschool.
We’re not out of touch, YOU’RE out of touch!!!
It should be clear to all by now that, as McCain warned, Putin “is and will remain our implacable foe.”
1952 wants its foreign policy back.
No, no. Russia never existed or had any history until Putin, and Putin is immortal.
(Psst, he’s Russian, not Romanian.)
Well, it IS John Foster Dulles’s birthday today…

Evan Powers, a trans student at an Oklahoma high school, said he carries a bulletproof backpack, along with books to use in self-defense. “I’m quite honestly scared to go to school every day,” said Powers, 17, adding: “I have been bullied by people that watch Libs of TikTok.”
The atmosphere, he said, makes it almost impossible to get an education.
“I want to go to college. I want to learn about the world, and I want to be able to have a safe space,” he said. “But people that post these things, it’s affecting just being able to sit in a classroom, just being able to sit in a chair and feel safe.”
I pity people who are afraid of their own shadows.
Horseshit
You know what would scare that person even more – just being ignored.
“I want to learn about the world, and I want to be able to have a safe space,”
Unfortunately for zem, those two things are quite contradictory. Especially when “safe” doesn’t mean “safe from violence” but means “safe from different ideas”.
Has the big Florida measles scandal been covered yet?
I hope they get smart enough to see that if you don’t calculate first, shit blows up.

I remember putting pennies in a beaker of sulfuric acid, fishing them out at the right moment when they were dime sized, and then using them successfully in vending machines. I assume the statute of limitations has expired?

Mexico City, a sprawling metropolis of nearly 22 million people and one of the world’s biggest cities, is facing a severe water crisis as a tangle of problems — including geography, chaotic urban development and leaky infrastructure — are compounded by the impacts of climate change.
——-
Politicians are downplaying any sense of crisis, but some experts say the situation has now reached such critical levels that Mexico City could be barreling towards “day zero” in a matter of months — where the taps run dry for huge swaths of the city.
But how do they treat their nonbinary people?
with tequila
That’s some great urban planning – let’s have a population here far in excess of what can be supported!
I am not entirely sure the US of A is completely without blame on that account
It’s not as if the Biden administration isn’t trying to drain the population of Mexico. 🙄
Not that many Mexicans in the throng since they can’t claim asylum.
that is not what i meant. you lot also built large cities in the desert which may be vulnerable to drought
Southern California quietly backs out of the chat room….
But the long-term trend of human-caused global warming hums in the background, fueling longer droughts and fiercer heat waves, as well as heavier rains when they do arrive.
“Climate change has made droughts increasingly severe due to the lack of water,” said UNAM’s Sarmiento. Added to this, high temperatures “have caused the water that is available in the Cutzamala system to evaporate,” she said.
We’re back to global warming again? I can’t keep up.
These fucking people….
“longer droughts and fiercer heat waves, as well as heavier rains ” citation needed.
High temps or higher temps? My guess just high…it is MC after all. Kinda tropical there. Meaningless statement: “high temperatures “have caused the water that is available in the Cutzamala system to evaporate,” she said.” – As it has always been.
Less water due to increased runoff from urban development and less soaking in. More people all of the time.
Yep, Recipe for disaster but global warming has nothing to do with it.
““Climate change has made droughts increasingly severe due to the lack of water,”
Droughts due to the lack of water is a change?
But in the meantime, tensions are rising as some residents are forced to cope with shortages, while others — often in the wealthier enclaves — remain mostly unaffected.
“There is a clear unequal access to water in the city and this is related to people’s income,” Sosa-Rodríguez said. While day zero might not be here yet for the whole of Mexico City, some neighborhoods have been grappling with it for years, she added.
It took a while, but they got there.
You know what would scare that person even more – just being ignored.
Exactly. The worst thing you could say to him him is “You’re not special.”
screw you buddy my granmama told me i was the specialest
You’re not gonna believe this
A lithium-ion battery caused a deadly fire at a Harlem apartment building Friday, according to the FDNY.
One person was killed, 17 were injured and dozens of people were displaced.
——-
Emmett Jones says he was asleep while his son was cooking, but then the fire alarm went off.
“I didn’t pay no attention to it, but then I smelled the air, and I was like, ‘Maybe we should leave.’ So I went down the hallway to wake him up. When I turned back around, the whole hallway was black,” Akil Jones said. “We just gathered whatever we could, and we went out of the fire escape.”
Good thinking.
A few weeks back at work I heard a story from a coworker. They were in the shop and smelled something burning. It started to get bad so they went to check it out to see if they needed to evacuate the building. Turns out it was just Bunny cooking his burrito. He set the timer for 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes and then went to get coffee. He is from a south Asian country so his English is difficult to understand. But I heard he came walking up and when he realized that was his burrito burning he said ” Fuck! Fucking American burrito!”.
but then the fire alarm went off
Wait, I thought that… never mind.
I Know Why The Ceiling Bird Sings.
Heheh the Italian Taylor Swift. Every time I see or hear mention of Caruso I think of one of my favorite movies. This particular scene is a memorable one in it. Love the musical juxtaposition.

Interesting. I think of this.

Heh, I haven’t seen that one since it came out. I have to put it on my rewatch list.
we don’t teach our politicians the lessons they so richly deserve
I love this, but it’s a bit cart and horse. A friend posted something along the same line: let them know! fix this! accountability. I wish it worked this way. As I answered him: democracy is exactly how we got here; a majority of our neighbors are unprincipled morons, red and blue.
It’s more fair to say that the politicians have already learned the lesson, the masses are thrilled with this nonsense, and the rest of us are tied and fucked. Oprah and Trump have won.
“After the San Francisco 49ers lost, which was the team that Abdullah had been supporting, she claimed in another post on X that the loss was because of white supremacy.
“Why do I feel like this was some right-wing, white-supremacist conspiracy?!?! Booooooo!!!!” said Abdullah.
“Folks think they’re attacking me by asking why I think everything is racist…I’m not offended. Virtually everything is racist,” she wrote in a follow-up post a few days later.”

“Virtually everything is racist,” including the Chiefs defense.
It was the 49ers defense that lost the game, so it’s racism on all the downs.
“Virtually”? You can do better than that.
Just wait a few more years and NFL will be 100% Black (or very close to it)* and “White privilege” won’t be an issue.
*Just based on seeing a bunch of college bowl games this year where the starting offenses and defenses were almost entirely Black kids. I’ll bet even the NHL will be 50% Black in a couple decades. NBA has already eliminated White privilege.
“Media narrative surrounding death of nonbinary OK student falls apart following release of police body cam footage: ‘She essentially started it’
Benedict said “we went to the bathroom,” she was talking to her friends and the other group of girls were talking to each other. “And we were laughing, and they had said something like ‘why do they laugh like that?’ And they were talking about us in front of us. And so I went up there and I poured water on them and then all three of them came at me.”
The water she poured came from her own water bottle. “So you squirted them with water, threw water on them, whatever it was,” the officer clarified. “Then at that point what happened?”
“They came at me, they grabbed me, they grabbed onto my hair, I grabbed on to them. I threw one of them into a paper towel dispenser, and then they got my legs out from under me and got me on the ground and started beating the sh*t out of me. And then my friends tried to jump in and help. I’m not sure, I blacked out.”
It was later revealed that Benedict did not die from injuries after the beating, and an investigation is still underway. Now it has become clear that Benedict was the one who started the altercation that was the basis of the false narrative surrounding her death.”

Can 13-year-old girls even punch hard enough to kill someone?
Just another concerned citizen
California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday broadened his incursion into red America, unveiling the first in a series of TV ads that accuses conservative officials of holding women hostage by imposing restrictions on their travel for reproductive care.
Newsom’s new ad, which debuted Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” will air in Tennessee, where a state representative is trying to outlaw transporting a minor for an abortion. Under the Tennessee proposal, adults who engage in “ abortion trafficking” — helping pregnant minors get the procedure out-of-state without parental permission — could be charged with a felony that carries up to 15 years in prison.
The new TV spot in Tennessee, part of an initial six-figure buy on broadcast, cable and digital platforms that will expand to more red states, shows a distressed young woman handcuffed to a hospital gurney and pleading for help. The voiceover says “Trump Republicans” want to criminalize young women who travel for reproductive care.
“Don’t let them hold Tennessee women hostage,” the narrator says, urging viewers to take action and directing viewers to a website. The site currently includes a petition against abortion travel bans and once the state-by-state campaigns launch, will include ways for people to take action against the legislation.
He only wants what’s best for the little people.
That’s all he has. What else could he poke at? The dude sucks.
Totally not running for president.
“Move to California! We won’t hold your women hostage!”
I guess that didn’t go so well with the focus groups.
“If abortion is banned anywhere, then it’s the same as being banned everywhere!”
Newsom’s latest move comes from his Campaign for Democracy, a committee he seeded with millions of dollars in donations leftover from a failed recall of him in 2021. It also focuses on gun control. Running ads far outside California has become a familiar move by the governor, who has bolstered his national profile through high-profile fights with Govs. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas.
Saving the world from wrongthink.
“According to The Center Square, a conservative publication, Democrat Sen. Catherine Blakespear, who represents a district in the San Diego suburbs, has introduced Senate Bill 1167, which would require chain restaurants to stop using paper or plastic single-use beverage cups.
Instead, the text of the bill mandates that they provide customers dining in-restaurant with “a durable cup, mug, or glass containing hot or cold liquids that is cleaned and reused by the food service facility.”
A chain restaurant, according to the law, is defined as one with over 60 locations.”

I’m not sure that “we don’t make anything, anymore” in the U.S. I think it’s more likely that we don’t make as much consumer goods as before, and that our manufacturing output is geared toward industrial goods (I can’t remember the terms used). I think we *could* do both, except that FedGov regulation makes it too costly to start up, say, a clothing company these days.
My family was once acquainted with a fellow who was part owner in a small clothing manufacturer in the late 1970s. It was located in northwest Tennessee, and was called “Mar-Leake”. The company did well, until the partner embezzled the profits and disappeared. The guy got a job in Memphis that specialized in making cheerleading uniforms—“Varsity Spirit Fashions”—which started as a side business for the United Cheerleading Association.
I worked there in summers during the early 1990’s, helping making the pieces that were sewn together into uniforms. We used a long table that had a bar that went back and forth, cutting the pieces, according to a computer program. We laid down the material, the machine would cut out the pieces, and we would collect the pieces and send them to the sewing department.
They are still around.

This is a video that is kind of like the machine we used, except we only did one layer at a time (as I recall), and so the machine we used went much faster:
