My wife has been ranting and raving about the latest season of True Detective. So I decided to finally watch it.
I have not seen any of the other seasons, but its fine. Lot of layers, the plot is a bit odd at times. Its just…I really can’t stand Jodie Foster. I don’t understand why people think she’s an actress. Typically, actors with this utter lack of talent get typecast and fit into bit roles, and make a decent enough living. Its the same elementary school principal scowl, the same dry, measured, forced baritone delivery she has in every role she’s in. Yes I am including Taxi Driver, and I am especially including Silence of the Lambs.
Now Anthony Hopkins is a freaking chameleon.

Mexico beat the US at soccer (again)! This is news because it was the women’s team that did it, so hardcore soccer fans care but everyone else…meh.
This might be fun. Both Brandon and the Orange Man will visit the border on Thursday. Obviously not at the same border station, lest there be a UFC style face-off in front of the media.
Holy shit, CNN. Nobody gives a rats ass about this except for you.
Both El Presidenté Dudebro and Milei (¡AFUERA!) spoke at CPAC over the weekend, but El Presidenté said something concerning enough for the Crown News to notice.
In financial news, the largest investment bank in Latin America launched a stablecoin pegged to $1USD to allow for a reliable interaction between decentralized banking and the global financial system.
Chile reopens an investigation into the death of a Nobel Prize winning poet with ties to Salvador Allende (that’s the socialist Pinochet overthrew). Apparently, the rumor is its wasn’t “just” cancer that killed him.
Bolsonaro in the midst of allegations over an attempted coup, requests a protest of Lula over his crusade against Zionism. They showed up. Holy shit did they show up.
Here’s a tune. Have a great Tuesday!
If it’s Latinx it should be N-laces.

That makes me want to pee.
“UFC style face-off in front of the media”
Dana White needs to get on this!
Do UFC fighters usually shuffle up to the stage, trip on the stairs, turn around confused, and need their wife to guide them to the other fighter?
Like bringing a Roomba to a robot fight.
Only in the senior league.
Trump was in the WWE. Or was it the WWF then?
Also, what the fuck happened to Vince McMahon’s face?
Good old fashioned bad plastic surgery and a pervert’s pencil mustache made him a new man.
That’s what happens when you poop on the head of your mistress. It’ll change a man.
I thought it was volcano nachos that change a man.
Dang. Now I am hungry.
Maybe afterwards if the fight goes poorly.
Only in the OCTO-Gen!
Last one to get his hip broken wins.

I’d watch it for the entertainment. And then weep for our country. Approx 125 million people between the ages of 35-65 and this is what we end up with?
We’re supposed to believe those are the two most qualified people for the job.
I can see it now…

Well, it is El Salvador.
Its a living constitution.

This season of True Detective was strange. There were many moments that did a great job of giving the feeling of oppressive doom that must come with constant night and frigid temperatures.
The story itself was terribly slow and nothing much happens. The acting from the principles was pretty lousy. At least the two women were not presented as infallible girl bosses. They were both pretty fucked up individuals.
And six episodes isn’t a season. So, fuck off HBO.
But it could be a series.
/looks at British TV.
Are your trees budding out?
Looks like some birch and aspen may be starting to recognize Spring but it’s way too early. Forecast for below zero tomorrow morning.
6-8 weeks early.
Yes they are budding out.
We should hit about 10 degrees F by 5 am tomorrow. That will totally kill the buds.
We’ll have to wait until April or so to see how much damage gets done between now and then.
I think we’re too early for any damage but what do I know
Thanks
Just noticed today that our trees are budding. It’s 71 right now. It’s supposed to get down to 13 tonight and snow in the morning. They will not survive.
My Bradford Pears fuck this up every year, but it doesn’t seem to bother them too much. They flower beautifully for about 15 minutes, before the wind and rain blows them all off.
I can see the maple trees starting to bud here, it’s supposed to drop back down into freezing later this week. Pretty sure the trees will be fine though, they’ve been through this before.
They were both pretty fucked up individuals.
Everyone in that town is fucked up..
When he died on Sept. 23, 1973, Neruda was a member of the Chilean Communist Party’s Central Committee and regarded as Chile’s national poet and most important intellectual.
That says something about what passed for “intellectual” life in Chile fifty years ago.
What passes for “intellectual” in the U.S. right now.
You know… the Kardashians, Lizzo, Brie Larson.
Unless you’re talking about the “big brain” intellectual types, like Paul Ehrlich, Noam Chomsky, and Ibram X. Kendi.
“Ibram X. Kendi”
Yes, that’s what I meant. Any credentialed idiot spouting the right opinions.
You forgot Krugman
Eh, he was a good poet, and worthy of international attention. But Latin American politics are hardball, so, not something to fuck around it.
Plus, screw communism.
Bolsanaro: When governments make it more risky to not attempt a coup than to attempt one
If they hang you just as high for suspected attempted regicide as the real thing, what’s to stop you?
Same with our legal system.
If you get 30 years for protesting an election after a trial in a kangaroo court – why not just shoot it out with the feds?
He also repeatedly cast an undefined group of “global elites” as an oppressive enemy with power over the media and politics.
Everyone: oh, the Davos crowd.

Welp, that lead me to to this. Which is just fantastic.
OFFS!
Right?
Putting Cesar on a pedestal with Martin is particularly ridiculous. I never even heard of the guy until I moved to SF after college and of course he had a street. The guy does not exactly have broad appeal the way that writer is attempting to pass off.
Glorified union organizer.
Even the farm workers didn’t like him, on account of the goons they sent to beat up anyone who didn’t want to join his union.
I learned of his name through a (good-era, natch) Simpsons ep.
That means nothing, other than The Simpsons used to be fucking amazing, throwing away (at least globally aware) jokes that still work within the ep. *End long-sentence ‘rant.’*

When jurors first began weighing the fate of a man charged with murdering the transgender woman he’d been seeing secretly, they had little problem concluding that he fired the gun, the jury foreperson said.
The most difficult task was determining that he was driven by hate, as the Department of Justice alleged, Dee Elder, a transgender woman from Aiken, South Carolina, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
“Motive is just a harder thing to prove,” Elder said. “How do you look between someone’s ears?”
Elder reached out to the AP after she and 11 other jurors found Daqua Ritter guilty of shooting Dime Doe three times on Aug. 4, 2019, because of her gender identity, bringing to an end the first federal trial over a bias-motivated crime of that sort.
Familiar with the difficulties presented by society for transgender people, Elder, 41, said she was compelled to discuss the case given its historic nature.
They just happened to find a female impersonator for the jury. What a surprise.
“Honest? Honest as the day is long.”
Ridiculous.
I’m not buying any of the details given the obvious political motivation behind the whole thing.
Federal trial about bias? State murder charges were not sufficient?
I know journalists love some motive, but that is very hard to prove in court. Rather, you want evidence, physical if possible, and eyewitnesses who will back it up.
Because, as a detective would say, “I don’t know WHY Peewee shot Tater, but he had his blood on his shoes.”

I am INCENSED I paid my $20k debt off fucking on time. Like an idiot, apparently. My generation learned to be rewarded for ‘Participating,’ and natch it goes on to the kids…some wealthier ones I daycare for 4.5 hours a day. Their parents are all juuuust about my age. Uh huh. Yep.
I hate my generation.
$1400/mo for 3 years is a little over $50K. That’s just shy of 3.6M homeless to get to $180B.
Grift is right.
Administration fees add up.
Doubt there are 3.6M homeless under age 30. So that excess will just have to be sopped up in managing this program.
Well a broad definition of homeless is needed. Kid answered he sometimes sleeps outside in a tent…social worker ignoring with friends on a make believe camping trip. Homeless!
Look, the Ukraine is gonna need boots on the ground. We have homeless.
Win. Win.

Elder said she hadn’t even heard about Doe’s death until jury selection, something that surprised her as a regular consumer of transgender-related news. Elder believes she was the only transgender person on the panel.
Without going into detail, she added that she understands firsthand the real-world harm caused by the stigma still attached to being a transgender person.
“In my personal experience, it can be dangerous for transgender women to date,” Elder said.
Whatever.
It can be dangerous for transgender women to date, if they don’t tell the person they are dating.
99% of the time, they know.
Not 99% percent of the ones that get murdered let their partners know though. Seems like it’s often a prostitution hookup where the guy finds out during the act not that that was the case here.

I am just the opposite: give me Jodie Foster over Anthony Hopkins. He has played the same damn role his entire life, and at this point, I just don’t care.
I saw Silence of the Lambs and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula back to back and I can assure you, Anthony Hopkins does not play the same role. In fact, I wasn’t sure I could ever see him in anything ever again and not think of Hannibal Lecter. Fucker scared the shit out of me.
He was great in Fastest Indian too.
Yes. another great movie.
He has played the same damn role his entire life,
Got to disagree here.
The Remains of the Day vs Silence of the Lambs.
The Drinker says One Life (2023) is a great movie with Hopkins being excellent.
World’s Fastest Indian was the same as everything else he ever did? Cokry in Magic? Bligh in The Bounty?
The old Zorro in Mask of Zorro.
Don’t you dare take that memory of Catherine Zeta from me.
Anthony can introduce us, but after that, that’s Our Time. *hurries to find VHS and a dirty sock to recreate middle-school continuity*

Oh, Fox body over the new, Fat Ass thing that calls itself a 911. Talk about losing the plot!
For $150k you have lots of choices new and old. But I’m not spending that much coin on any fox body.
It was mostly me thinking about how the new(ish) Porsche’s are so opposite of Ferdinand’s original design paradigm as to be blasphemous.
I legit thought you were talking about “Plus-Sized Model” and some…work they probably had done. And her chosen pronoun is now Thing. Cute face. She had a foxy body back in the day, I bet. But she replaced it with a new body, and she called 911 on herself to get attention, rather than the broken leg preceding it.

I adore that phrase.

A 1967 MG Midget would be more fun to drive than either of those, and you’d have about $142,000 left in your pocket.
I have driven Fox bodies and midgets. No contest, a base model 5.0 is a heck of a lot more fun in the twisties.
In all honesty, I would go for an Alpine Renault A110 with that kinda money.

I can think of a few foxy bodies I’d spend $150k on.
See. Y’all just kept making it harder to think of properly foxy ladies, with proper foxy lady bits.

Jodie Foster was the only thing good about TD S4. Horrible miscasting and repugnant pin cushion as colead. Garbage Mexican mysticism set in Alaska by the dipshit show runner who took over after booting the (decent) creator. Get your own property, bitch. And the stupid grrrl power ending. Mass murder is totes ok.
Childish nonsense
irginia Sen. Danica Roem, D-Prince William County, made an abrupt exit from the Senate floor Monday after Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears addressed the transgender senator as “sir.”
Sen. Roem, who received an endorsement from then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2018, was elected to the Virginia Senate last year. Sen. Roem was one of the first transgender people elected to a state legislature in U.S. history.
The exchange with Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears occurred after Sen. Roem asked a question about HB 592, a measure regulating price transparency for prescription drugs, before the Senate voted on it.
——-
Congressional candidate Elizabeth Guzman, however, deplored the lieutenant governor’s actions.
“If placing a proper pronoun is such a struggle for you Winsome, then you could have referred to Danica by the title her neighbors gave her: Senator,” she said. “What a small, mean-spirited and desperate ploy. Shameful.”
Sen. Roem’s office decline comment when reached for comment by The National Desk (TND) Tuesday. Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Gendered language has grown into a controversial topic at all levels of government. The State Department confirmed Tuesday it recently confirmed it had sent a memo to staffers urging them to avoid the use of gendered language, such as “mother” and “father.” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing such matters of “respect” are considered standard procedure in government.

Comments deeply offensive to white liberals
Former President Donald Trump has been courting Black voters but has also drawn controversy by using racially charged sentiments by suggesting he has strengthened his appeal to Black Americans by claiming they relate to his multiple criminal indictments.
Trump made the remarks at the Black Conservative Federation Gala in Columbia, South Carolina, last week.
President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said the comments were “plainly racist.”
Despite the backlash that Trump’s comments created, some Black conservatives say they are still supporting the former president.
“Black Americans are waking up to the reality that the Democratic Party has taken advantage of them, and the media and the party are terrified. Our community supports the policies of President Donald J. Trump and knows full well that life was better four years ago under his administration. No amount of media deception or liberal race baiting will sway the minds of Black voters will cast their ballots this November for safer streets, a better financial well-being, a secure border, and a complete rejection of Joe Biden’s disastrous tenure,” Diante Johnson, President of the Black Conservative Federation said in a statement.
Okay, Uncle Tom.
In financial news, the largest investment bank in Latin America launched a stablecoin pegged to $1USD.
I’m confused. Is it stable, or is it tied to the US Dollar?
Tallest pygmy?
Yes, it’s all relative.
ABC News Live: And anyone can answer here. Kind of a jump ball. Final question. What do you think about the media response, the noise and some of the comments made as a result of the controversial remarks, if you will, that Donald Trump said over the weekend. And I’m also curious, is there anything that Donald Trump could say that would stop you all from voting for him?
——-
Ali: Well, if Trump came out tomorrow and said, I want an unlimited open border, if he came out tomorrow and said he was in favor of late-stage abortion, if he came out tomorrow and said he doesn’t think Black people have the capacity to succeed in this country, then I wouldn’t vote for him. But chances are he won’t be saying those things and chances are I’ll be supporting him.

Not bad…if you’ve ever been to the Florida panhandle you’ve been there.
Valdosta way — uh huh uh huh — I like it
I quick-read that as Vladivostok. I spent a silly weekend there. There ain’t much there (other than people) but a Soviet sub and an international airport.
I adequately, though kinda cheating for a country its size, can say I’ve been to Russia. The most fun I had there, I probably shouldn’t write about here.

I can afford it, but it’s not worth the effort.
Eating out is overrated.
$40 today for two wraps, an ice tea, tax and tip. Last year same place, same meal $33.
There’s no inflation, you racist bigot.
What bothers me the most is that I make better food than most restaurants, so what exactly is the appeal? And unless it’s a fast food place, You don’t save that much time once you account for traveling and waiting on the food anyway.
The past year, I had to teach myself to make pizza the way I like because none of the dozens of local places can crank out a pie I really enjoy. The places that get close to the right style can’t afford flavor apparently.

Charging more for people who want to eat during the lunch rush makes sense. No one is forced to eat out at any time. Swing by Walmart and grab something from the deli, if you didn’t make your lunch that morning, and don’t want to pay the higher prices. Grab a small can of Pringles to tide you over until the lunch rush is over.
I expect that if you use the phone app to order, then you won’t pay the higher prices. I use the McD’s app enough that I can get free food from there.
When I eat at Wendy’s I usually have enough points to get a free small frosty.
