In order to save their season, the Detroit Red Wings decided the only way forward was to release the Russian Five from suspended animation.

My wife has been ranting and raving about the latest season of True Detective.  So I decided to finally watch it.

I have not seen any of the other seasons, but its fine. Lot of layers, the plot is a bit odd at times.  Its just…I really can’t stand Jodie Foster.  I don’t understand why people think she’s an actress.  Typically, actors with this utter lack of talent get typecast and fit into bit roles, and make a decent enough living.  Its the same elementary school principal scowl, the same dry, measured, forced baritone delivery she has in every role she’s in.  Yes I am including Taxi Driver, and I am especially including Silence of the Lambs.

Now Anthony Hopkins is a freaking chameleon.

¡Enlaces!

Mexico beat the US at soccer (again)!  This is news because it was the women’s team that did it, so hardcore soccer fans care but everyone else…meh.

This might be fun. Both Brandon and the Orange Man will visit the border on Thursday.  Obviously not at the same border station, lest there be a UFC style face-off in front of the media.

Holy shit, CNN.  Nobody gives a rats ass about this except for you.

Bolsonaro

Both El Presidenté Dudebro and Milei (¡AFUERA!) spoke at CPAC over the weekend, but El Presidenté said something concerning enough for the Crown News to notice.

In financial news, the largest investment bank in Latin America launched a stablecoin pegged to $1USD to allow for a reliable interaction between decentralized banking and the global financial system.

Chile reopens an investigation into the death of a Nobel Prize winning poet with ties to Salvador Allende (that’s the socialist Pinochet overthrew).  Apparently, the rumor is its wasn’t “just” cancer that killed him.

Bolsonaro in the midst of allegations over an attempted coup, requests a protest of Lula over his crusade against Zionism.  They showed up. Holy shit did they show up.

Here’s a tune. Have a great Tuesday!

This season of True Detective was strange. There were many moments that did a great job of giving the feeling of oppressive doom that must come with constant night and frigid temperatures.

The story itself was terribly slow and nothing much happens. The acting from the principles was pretty lousy. At least the two women were not presented as infallible girl bosses. They were both pretty fucked up individuals.

And six episodes isn’t a season. So, fuck off HBO.

        Yes they are budding out.

We should hit about 10 degrees F by 5 am tomorrow. That will totally kill the buds.

    Extra dead

When jurors first began weighing the fate of a man charged with murdering the transgender woman he’d been seeing secretly, they had little problem concluding that he fired the gun, the jury foreperson said.

The most difficult task was determining that he was driven by hate, as the Department of Justice alleged, Dee Elder, a transgender woman from Aiken, South Carolina, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

“Motive is just a harder thing to prove,” Elder said. “How do you look between someone’s ears?”

Elder reached out to the AP after she and 11 other jurors found Daqua Ritter guilty of shooting Dime Doe three times on Aug. 4, 2019, because of her gender identity, bringing to an end the first federal trial over a bias-motivated crime of that sort.

Familiar with the difficulties presented by society for transgender people, Elder, 41, said she was compelled to discuss the case given its historic nature.

They just happened to find a female impersonator for the jury. What a surprise.

“Honest? Honest as the day is long.”

    • rhywun

I know journalists love some motive, but that is very hard to prove in court. Rather, you want evidence, physical if possible, and eyewitnesses who will back it up.

    Childish nonsense

irginia Sen. Danica Roem, D-Prince William County, made an abrupt exit from the Senate floor Monday after Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears addressed the transgender senator as “sir.”

Sen. Roem, who received an endorsement from then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2018, was elected to the Virginia Senate last year. Sen. Roem was one of the first transgender people elected to a state legislature in U.S. history.

The exchange with Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears occurred after Sen. Roem asked a question about HB 592, a measure regulating price transparency for prescription drugs, before the Senate voted on it.

    ——-

Congressional candidate Elizabeth Guzman, however, deplored the lieutenant governor’s actions.

“If placing a proper pronoun is such a struggle for you Winsome, then you could have referred to Danica by the title her neighbors gave her: Senator,” she said. “What a small, mean-spirited and desperate ploy. Shameful.”

Sen. Roem’s office decline comment when reached for comment by The National Desk (TND) Tuesday. Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Gendered language has grown into a controversial topic at all levels of government. The State Department confirmed Tuesday it recently confirmed it had sent a memo to staffers urging them to avoid the use of gendered language, such as “mother” and “father.” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing such matters of “respect” are considered standard procedure in government.

Trump made the remarks at the Black Conservative Federation Gala in Columbia, South Carolina, last week.

President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said the comments were “plainly racist.”

Despite the backlash that Trump’s comments created, some Black conservatives say they are still supporting the former president.

“Black Americans are waking up to the reality that the Democratic Party has taken advantage of them, and the media and the party are terrified. Our community supports the policies of President Donald J. Trump and knows full well that life was better four years ago under his administration. No amount of media deception or liberal race baiting will sway the minds of Black voters will cast their ballots this November for safer streets, a better financial well-being, a secure border, and a complete rejection of Joe Biden’s disastrous tenure,” Diante Johnson, President of the Black Conservative Federation said in a statement.

    Okay, Uncle Tom.

In financial news, the largest investment bank in Latin America launched a stablecoin pegged to $1USD.

I’m confused. Is it stable, or is it tied to the US Dollar?

ABC News Live: And anyone can answer here. Kind of a jump ball. Final question. What do you think about the media response, the noise and some of the comments made as a result of the controversial remarks, if you will, that Donald Trump said over the weekend. And I’m also curious, is there anything that Donald Trump could say that would stop you all from voting for him?

    ——-

Ali: Well, if Trump came out tomorrow and said, I want an unlimited open border, if he came out tomorrow and said he was in favor of late-stage abortion, if he came out tomorrow and said he doesn’t think Black people have the capacity to succeed in this country, then I wouldn’t vote for him. But chances are he won’t be saying those things and chances are I’ll be supporting him.

    That poor ABC reporter.

I really cannot regularly afford to eat out anymore. It will definitely help my waistline, but we are heading for a monumental crash.

Even the prepared dishes at my supermarket are crazy expensive.

Except the 25 wings for $25 is a decent deal.

I quick-read that as Vladivostok. I spent a silly weekend there. There ain’t much there (other than people) but a Soviet sub and an international airport.

I adequately, though kinda cheating for a country its size, can say I’ve been to Russia. The most fun I had there, I probably shouldn’t write about here.

What bothers me the most is that I make better food than most restaurants, so what exactly is the appeal? And unless it’s a fast food place, You don’t save that much time once you account for traveling and waiting on the food anyway.

The past year, I had to teach myself to make pizza the way I like because none of the dozens of local places can crank out a pie I really enjoy. The places that get close to the right style can’t afford flavor apparently.

Charging more for people who want to eat during the lunch rush makes sense. No one is forced to eat out at any time. Swing by Walmart and grab something from the deli, if you didn’t make your lunch that morning, and don’t want to pay the higher prices. Grab a small can of Pringles to tide you over until the lunch rush is over.

I expect that if you use the phone app to order, then you won’t pay the higher prices. I use the McD’s app enough that I can get free food from there.

When I eat at Wendy’s I usually have enough points to get a free small frosty.
