IFLA: The “Hang On!” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of April 21

by | Apr 21, 2024 | IFLA | 185 comments

As you might expect, MERCURY RETROGRADE is responsible for what’s going on this week. And there’s a fairly significant whiplash that’s happening as it transitions to direct motion. On Monday, MERCURY RETROGRADE is aligned in two different ways — with the sun and Jupiter (misrule, failures of protection, lightning strikes) and with the moon and earth (general disarray, bad luck). However, as bad as things are going to be, that’s MERCURY RETROGRADE’s last gasp of this cycle. By Thursday, the skies look completely different. Those alignments have broken up and the new state of Aries is optimal for releasing some of that pent-up frustration. Things look pretty darn good to close out the week, unless you’re planning on running a shooting match over the weekend. Le sigh.

Taurus: The Fool – Folly, mania, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment.

Gemini: Judgement reversed – Weakness, pusillanimity, simplicity, deliberation, decision, sentence.

Cancer: 7 of Swords reversed – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling.

Leo: Ace of Wands reversed – Fall, decadence, ruin, perdition, clouded joy.

Virgo: The Hierophant reversed – Society, good understanding, concord, overkindness, weakness.

Libra: King of Cups reversed – Dishonest, double-dealing man; roguery, exaction, injustice, vice, scandal, pillage, considerable loss.

Scorpio: The Devil reversed – Evil, fatality, weakness, pettiness, blindness.

Sagittarius: 2 of Cups – Love, passion, friendship, affinity, union, concord, sympathy.

Capricorn: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion, sadness, heartbreak.

Aquarius: 6 of Coins – Presents, gifts, gratification, attention, vigilance.

Pisces: Knight of Swords – kill, bravery, capacity, defense, address, enmity, wrath, war, destruction, opposition, resistance, ruin.

Aries: Temperance reversed – Things connected with churches, religions, sects, the priesthood, disunion, unfortunate combinations, competing interests.

“Cancer: 7 of Swords reversed – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling.”

Sounds like you have a pretty good line into my office…

    That’s not very nice.

Who doesn’t like some good wholesome pillaging?

Scorpio: The Devil reversed – Evil, fatality, weakness, pettiness, blindness.

Well, that doesn’t sound at ALL encouraging (especially the “fatality” part!) 😳

Sagittarius: 2 of Cups – Love, passion, friendship, affinity, union, concord, sympathy.

    What the…

    • Spudalicious

Sorry about your failed future relationship.

      • hayeksplosives

Hi. Let me introduce you to my next ex-husband.

      • dbleagle

Are you still waiting or has somebody seen you?

Have I mentioned I hate ERs?

      • hayeksplosives

Yeah, I’ve been “treated and released.”

Currently at Walgreens waiting on my antibiotics and painkillers.

      • ZWAK will kindle all of the dreams it took a lifetime to destroy

ERs aren’t too bad in the AM.

      • hayeksplosives

        Truth.

Though there was a dude roaming who was either drugged up or plain insane.

I went and hid for a while because he was getting closer to me as he ranted.

      • juris imprudent

Ah c’mon, you coulda told him “I was bitten by a dog, I may be rabid” – just for S&G.

      • hayeksplosives

        A-lol.

Hindsight and all that. But to be serious for half a second, I do prefer to have a man—an actual testicle possessing, MAGA male—with me when I am vulnerable.

        Does that make me sexist?

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Considering all you did for your ex, I suspect an assertive and informed companion is the most important part, regardless of sex or relationship.

  5. Brochettaward

We don’t stand on pomp and ceremony here. This is about the First.

  6. Tres Cool

“Virgo: The Hierophant reversed – Society, good understanding, concord, overkindness, weakness.”

    Insufficiently shitty.

Doesn’t the same bill fund Israel and Gaza? Funny neither of those flags.

I assume your Aquarius is sumtin’ fiiine to allay current foibles.

      *Knowing nod*

    • Ted S.

I thought he was questioning the absence of the mugshot in the “grandma helps grandkid beat crap out of classmate” story.

      • Tres Cool

        You’re correct.

But you know grandmas. They all look alike.

      • R C Dean

Yeah, it was the “grandma holds down teenager so her granddaughter can kick the shit out of her” story.

      • Tres Cool

I did look around and didn’t find any photos in the news reports. But Mt. Morris TWP is part of Flint, MI.

        So…yeah.

  8. Brochettaward

That bitch Taylor Swift ripped me off again.

    • Evan from Evansville

I’ll let her rip me apart in many ways.

  9. Evan from Evansville

Taurus: The Fool – Folly, mania, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment. Huh. This description describes my existence, or rather *describED.* Tomorrow is the start of my full-time gig as a Test Evaluator. Funnily, Fourth Grade Writing is the assigned project. As typical, I will re-watch Seinfeld’s ‘The Opposite.’ It always works.

It’s a remote gig. My office is in my room. Gotta fully organize the desk, and work starts at 8am. This is a great stepping stone for me. My b-day is next week. It’s good for an Evan to be a prime again. Onward. Upward. Always.

  10. Sean

Upgraded my Wi-Fi router today. Speed test shows a 5x improvement for download speed and 3x for upload on wifi.

    • Grummun

Pretty sad when the limiting factor is your WiFi router, not your broadband link.

      • Gustave Lytton

Fiber to the home is finally not uncommon. Other than the flex speedtest screenshot, most aren’t saturating it.

      • Sensei

I have it and only have the lowest speed tier.

There are only two of us and even HD video times two or three doesn’t tax it.

Steam game downloads and downloading err, Linux Distributions that may have entertainment value are the only bummer. But that only happens rarely and I just download the game overnight. Something like err Linux in anything other than native format is still under 15 minutes.

    • R C Dean

Looking forward to 3-5x more Sean comments.

      • R C Dean

        Oh, and, avatar checks out.

    • EvilSheldon

Huh, you too? I just swapped in a spiffy OpenWRT Wireguard router, to replace my fucked-up old Asus. .

Somebody doesn’t understand how prosecutorial discretion works

Noem, a staunch ally of the former president, also said that prosecutors should have brought the case against Trump years ago instead of in the midst of an election season. Trump will be spending the majority of the next few weeks in a Manhattan court room after the hush money trial kicked off last week.

“I think it’s a little ridiculous that they’ve waited years to bring these types of charges against Donald Trump. You know, if they wanted to make these kinds of charges against him, they should have done it two years ago, when this happened. To do it conveniently during a presidential election when he’s campaigning to return to the White House, I think, proves that this is all politically motivated,” she said.

Her comments echo familiar remarks made by Trump and his allies, who have suggested Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) case against the former president should have been brought earlier if it was not politically motivated. Noem has also been floated as a potential running mate to Trump as he seeks a second term in the White House.

Preposterous hogwash. There’s no politics in the judicial system.

    • juris imprudent

At publishing time, conservative GOP lawmakers were seeking a new candidate for Speaker who could disappoint them just as much without actually being Kevin McCarthy in disguise.

      • hayeksplosives

    Happy B-Day, Mo!

Mid-Springers are often overlooked. I was also a late bloomer, though Short Fry came through.

  14. Brochettaward

The Fallout hype reminds me of the early talk about The Boys. Or The Witcher.

Woke shit is in there just waiting to break out. Sloppy and shitty writing is being overlooked as people are introduced to the world. And people will turn on it quickly as the novelty wears off and people get over seeing something they loved in video game form portrayed on screen.

    • Urthona

I still think The Boys is great.

      Fallout is just ok.

    • prolefeed

The emphasis on the need for vigorously exercising RTKBA seems decidedly unwoke.

What huge amounts of woke stuff are you seeing that I’m not?

      • Brochettaward

What’s huge? The entire war started because the capitalist corporation wanted to win the game of capitalism. The good guys are all called commies. They’ve checked every diversity box in casting and did it solely for the sake of diversity.

      • Brochettaward

And *guarantee* the diverse casting will impact the writing. We can only depict diverse characters in certain approved ways.

  15. Gustave Lytton

  16. Gender Traitor

Of interest to exactly no one but myself, I’ve just (all but*) completed my first crocheted honest-to-goodness garment.** I’ve crocheted hair ties (mainly as tests to learn various stitches) and a big ol’ tote bag, and I’ve knit sweaters, socks, and gloves, but this is my first crocheted really truly article of clothing. Just a cotton tank top to wear over store-bought tank tops (and get away with eschewing certain undergarments) when the weather finally gets warm.

*Still have to weave some dangling yarn ends into the stitches to hide them.
** Yeah, I’m not good at selfies. The anonymity, however, is intentional.

    • Mojeaux

      VERY NICE!!!! Good job!

      • Gender Traitor

Nope – white as snow (even whiter than my pasty white arms) so I can wear it with any color tank top. And guaranteed to show any stain, of course. I was obsessive about washing my hands before picking it up to work on it, and I consider it a minor miracle it survived to completion without getting coffee or chai latte spilled on it. ::knocks wood vigorously::

      • UnCivilServant

        🤔

Did you think of making it coffee-colored to begin with?

      • Gender Traitor

      • kinnath

I think I have some buckwheat honey done in the cellar. Perhaps it will show up at HH.

      • R C Dean

Avocado honey is my fave. Dark, kind of a molasses vibe. It’s not easy to find even around here (it’s made in the Mexican avocado plantations). If you see it, give it a go.

      • Gustave Lytton

        https://rossiranch.com/honey/

        But…

It has been said that all good things must one day come to an end. Unfortunately, that day came to Rossi Ranch Avocados and we have had to end our farming business that started back in 1997, when we first purchased this land.
While we have tried to keep our business going, our trees growing and producing fruit, the increased costs of doing business here in California have now made it virtually impossible.
Each one of you has been such loyal and valuable customers and part of our extended family. We hope that our avocados and honey added something special to your lives and we wish you all the best going forward.
Thank you and ‘til we meet again,

hypacunt, they can spell it out for you in as blunt of terms as possible and people like you will still call it a conspiracy theory.

      • The Hyperbole

Spell out the end game for me. And try not to use “They” or ‘”The Left” or any other generic bogeyman. Tell me why Hillary, or Barry, or George want to kill their golden goose.

      • Brochettaward

        https://treeofwoe.substack.com/p/the-future-theyve-chosen-for-us

The UN, the WEF, and various parts of our own government along with a coalition of NGO’s. Why? Power and money. Same as everything else they do. It’s a platform and agenda that allows them to pick winners and losers in every aspect of the economy.

Look at the policies of the Biden administration and tell me that they are meant to enrich America or Americans. Particularly the middle class.

      • Brochettaward

What the fuck do idiots like you think they mean when they say that “you” will own nothing and like it by 20230? Who do you think they mean when they say you’ll consume far less meat and dairy products? Whose car do you think they mean to ban when they talk about getting rid of ICE vehicles?

It isn’t there meat and sports cars that are going away. It’s you, asshole. And they don’t even hide this anymore. It’s the platform of the DNC.

      • The Hyperbole

I asked for the end game. What do ‘they’ expect will happen when all of us are gone? these people are on top of the pile, they’ve grifted themselves and their families into the lap of luxury, yet somehow they want “power and money” and will kill “us” to get it? Newsflash Sherlock, they have the power and the money. and they need “us” to keep up the grift. You nutjobs seem to think that “They” are simultaneously super crafty schemers and plotters and yet too stupid to know where their bread is buttered.

      • Brochettaward

Tres didn’t say they were going to wipe out half the population. Neither did I.

The end game is breaking the middle class. Breaking up suburban America. It’s global wealth redistribution.

How many times do they have to tell you what their goal is before you believe them? And they aren’t just white papers. They are putting the shit into effect on a daily basis.

      • R C Dean

The end game is a functional aristocracy, protected by a surveillance state, ruling over functional serfs who are utterly dependent on systems controlled by the aristocracy for day to day necessities.

Believe them when they tell you their plans. And, yes, Bro gave a good summary of who “they” are.

      • The Hyperbole

It isn’t there meat and sports cars that are going away. It’s you, asshole.

      • Brochettaward

Even if there wasn’t a conspiracy, which there sure as shit is, the actual real world consequences of their policies are the exact same. It’s almost a moot point.

That you can find them explicitly telling you in excruciating detail what they want to achieve and how they want to achieve it and you still have idiots like Hypercunt arguing over nonsense like what the end game is, it’s just fucking tedious.

They could really have convinced themselves they’re saving the world. Some percentage probably do believe that. but it doesn’t matter. They want you to eat bugs just the same as those in it for the power.

      • Brochettaward

You are going to latch onto a single word in a post to mean that I’m implying mass genocide? Yes, hypcaunt. How could I ever accuse you of being disingenuous? How could anyone ever make that mistake? Forget the fact that the post was after you had already started the argument.

You asked a question. Who. That who was answered. Now you want to deflect, as you typically do, to avoid the actual substance of the argument. It’s repetitive, cowardly, and just flat out pathetic.

      • The Hyperbole

If you people can latch onto “they” so can I, How often is it bandied about here that “‘They’ hate you and want you to die”?

To the initial point, Trey claimed “they” wanted to break the country, My question is why would they, it couldn’t get much better for our ‘betters’ than it is right now, I keep hearing they want money and power, They have that, or that they want me to eat bugs, I’m not so full of myself that I think any one of them spends two seconds thinking about what I eat. Yes, there are people that have utopian ideal they would like to impose on the world and yes sometimes they form groups and pleasure themselves by putting out papers that explain all their wet dreams, but that is all they are. There always have been such groups, Utopia isn’t exactly a new idea. If there is a global conspiracy to run the world, and there isn’t, they would be smart enough to realize they have it about as good as it can get.

      • Mojeaux

The icky people cannot be allowed to enjoy their lives or have any illusion that they have any control over their own lives at all.

      • Brochettaward

They are just utopian fantasies of a small fringe (which make it into Biden administration policy decisions on a daily basis).

There’s that rub. This shit isn’t theoretical. They are implementing it. It is already disastrous and having a negative effect on your daily life. And the plan is only to ratch it up.

By why argue with an idiot who wants to pretend it’s just an idealistic fringe when the current administration is trying to phase out ICE vehicles?

      • Brochettaward

They are deliberately driving up the price of oil on a daily basis with one policy decision after another. hypacunt is just here to tell you its a coincidence and not the result of their policy decisions and preferences.

      • Brochettaward

They are deliberately pursuing inflationary policies on a daily basis that serve as a backdoor tax on the middle class and poo,r, but which enrich them and their cronies. hypacunt is here to tell you that it’s just a coincidence.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        You’re a desperate rub, Broche.

      • Brochettaward

I don’t even know what that means.

Spell out the end game for me. And try not to use “They” or ‘”The Left” or any other generic bogeyman. Tell me why Hillary, or Barry, or George want to kill their golden goose.

This is so staggeringly dishonest that I’m not sure whom to be more ashamed of: you for using it, or people treating it as if it’s worth response.

      • juris imprudent

That’s a sales pitch from the WEF. If they had the ability to enforce that they wouldn’t try to make it sound wonderful.

Some days I wish I had more time between when I wake and when I start work, but from past experience, I wouldn’t do anything with that time. I’d sit and fret about being late until I finally left, getting nothing done.

    • Tres Cool

Ive essentially been awake since around 0230 when Rott puppy alerted that he wanted out.
I could have started by 3 hour commute much earlier, but held on to the fantasy that I may actually get more sleep.

Going with the musical theme established above, two of my favorite tunes from a band that did quasi-medieval rock. Desert island music for me, here’s Gryphon!
Ethelion (live) with a very enthusiastic drummer who the crowd clearly loved.
Midnight Mushrumps (long), my introduction to the band.
    Share and enjoy!

        How’s it going so far?

      • rhywun

        It’s not. Need coffee.

      • Gender Traitor

Same question to you – how’s your day going so far? (In-office or WFH?)

      • UnCivilServant

In the office. Checking in on what happened over the weekend. Apparently one of the instances went down and the poor oncall guy got called at 2:30am. It appears to be back up though.

      • Gender Traitor

And aren’t you glad you weren’t on call? 😁

      • UnCivilServant

Well, technically, as the group manager I’m a fall-back number if the on-call isn’t answered in a certain amount of time.

    • Gender Traitor

Cool tunes, Beau! IIRC, this seems to be from a bit of a “golden age” of Brit bands doing Medieval/Renaissance music with modern twists – Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, etc. Any other good ones I’ve missed?

      • Gender Traitor

…not to mention Jethro Tull’s “Songs from the Wood.” Except I just mentioned it.

      • Beau Knott

Those are the ones I’m mor or less familiar with. Love Steeleye Span! Maddie has a great voice and their choice of tunes was usually interesting.
Songs from the Wood is glorious.

Not sure, but Blodwyn Pig may fit in there as well.

      • Beau Knott

Oh, and perhaps Egg. The one out of that era, not any of the plethora of others to be found.

Good morning! Short work week since I’ll be taking Friday off to work the world’s smallest level II SCSA match.

    • UnCivilServant

A Wizard of Oz Cast Reunion Match?

      • Not Adahn

I think there are fewer of those than there are D-Day veterans at this point.

More seriously though, since SCSA matches are all identical, I really don’t get the point of participating in a major other than the bragging rights/competing against the best in that matches region since the match fee is so much higher.

Apparently most people agree me. There were 200+ unsold slots at this one.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, NA! I, too, am taking Friday off, as well as the following Monday and Tuesday – month-end lull, a need to whittle down Vacation hours before I max out, and quite possibly my last chance to relax before my boss officially takes over as CEO on May 1. 😳

      • UnCivilServant

Hey! You didn’t tell me he officially got the nomination.

      • Gender Traitor

Well, it was widely considered a foregone conclusion. The Board handled it very awkwardly, though – the current CEO has been in the position for 20+ years, and the directors seemed clueless about how to make my boss their formal offer and to make the official announcement. One of the directors accidentally spilled the beans early while visiting a branch office to do a transaction. 🙄

        Genesis 18:7-8

And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

      • cavalier973

Of course, this was prior to the Mosaic Law.

Re: Discussion last night about whether or not the lizard people are attempting to enslave mankind from their secret base on the dark side of the moon

I grew up in the heart of bible country southern USA. To call that time and place religious would be a huge understatement . If it weren’t the SB’s it was the Pentecostals…who, by the way, are quite different from northern pentecostals.
I assure any doubters that there is a sizable portion of the human race the obsesses over what and how other people are doing right down to the smallest detail. They absolutely cannot abide anyone behaving or thinking in ways that they do not approve of. It makes sense for herd animals to have such urges but for some people, like every aspect of human behavior, it consumes them completely.
Our founders were fully aware of this which is why they tried and almost succeeded in creating a system built upon preventing the concentration of power. No part of what they created was intended to manifest some perfect vision of what is supposed to be….a utopia of any sort. It was meant to prevent that very thing because they knew from experience that the worst kinds of people always seek that out. Their notion of an ideal system is one in which people like me can tell control freaks to fuck off and leave me alone.

Yes, the lizard people are indeed attempting to enslave mankind from their secret base on the dark side of the moon.
Hyperbole, you have a hard time seeing that because you are not one of those sickos and cant quite comprehend why anyone would do that. It is not uncommon.
Ol’e Adolf hit on it with his ‘big lie’ strategy. Sneak up on them while they are thinking “Nah, c’mon now, who would have the temerity to do that?”.
You are wrong Hyperbole and sometimes irritating but I will take 10M of you before I would abide one of them.
