Morley Field Season 2

Another Sunday

Time flies when you’re having fun, Disc golf is no exception. When last we met I was a newb from hell at Morley but times and scores change. As spring turned to summer I entered a lot of tournaments and met a lot of great people. Fun facts, Morley is the busiest course in America and the second oldest by a year, established in 1977.

1st hole, hit the gap

One of the main reasons I play Disc golf is the equality. No matter what size, sex, color or age, you can play this game. we never speak of politics or world events, nothing outside of our sport, and that’s nice.

We speak our own language, hyzers, annies and rollers, similar to ball golf. Anyway, let’s talk about the course itself. Probably the biggest difference between Morley and other courses is the fact they change Hole positions every Monday and some holes have up to 10 different positions, so you never quite get it perfect, hee hee. Another is the fact you need a tee time to play, and a Sunday round can take 3 hours or more, about twice as long as a typical course.

As time went by I developed a crew and became a part of the actual goings on of the course, in other words management. The course gets very busy from Friday through Sunday, so a starter is needed to herd the cats. I typically finish my round about noon so I began filling in for my friend Tori, the official starter (she gets paid) We meet people from all over the world touristing through. We get a few jerks, but the locals take care of them, they value our role keeping the groups moving.

My drive off of 12

Did I mention the parties? When I arrived, I played straight arrow, rules, public park etc. I sit down at #1 and the first thing I smell is fresh burning weed. I turned around and noticed a foursome with a rolling ice chest. It was then I knew I would be happy here. Last October we enjoyed a tournament during Beer Fest SD, and had twenty odd breweries sponsoring the event, many beers were consumed. For many of us this is an escape from the world in the center of San Diego.ย

Until next time,ย

Disc is everywhere, parks, colleges, churches, you name it,

And that’s where you’ll find friends who get it, very libertarian.

(I do not endorse partying while playing, and there are many young folks learning so I do practice some discretion, SLD)

For a man who is a man, Firsting, in my belief, must serve no other purpose beyond itself.

  2. R.J.

I am bringing my discs to Florida next week, I hope to find a course and play a round.

    • Chafed

      Not a euphemism?

      • R.J.

        Not this time.

Now when I say I am bringing my inflatable balls to Florida…

  3. Fourscore

We call those orange squirrels fox squirrels, is that the same for you Californians?

    • R.J.

California probably thought ‘Fox’ was sexist so they renamed them Brown Squirrels.

    • Ownbestenemy

85% of Cali don’t do squirrels or have ever seen one in their local area. Opposums on the other hand….

    • hayeksplosives

Ditto for me as a native Oklahoman. Orangey squirrels that are otherwise shaped like gray squirrels are fox squirrels.

The smaller squirrels with big ear tufts and bad attitudes are red squirrels. I hate them.

Fox and gray squirrels are cute. Ornery but cute.

The debate isn’t until Thursday, where is everyone? Is Love Boat on? Bingo night at the retirement home?

    • rhywun

      Dinner and fรบtbol.

Tell us what you really think, The NY Post.

Julian Assange is not a hero โ€” but a self-righteous lowlife lucky to be set free

Holy crap, check out the ratio at the bottom.

    • dbleagle

Wow. Not what I expected on the NYP site. Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for the American experiment yet.

      • rhywun

They have some very establishment positions. For example, they are all in on defeating Russia – a country we are supposedly not at war with.

      • dbleagle

I agree. I should have been clearer. I was discussing the comments.

      • rhywun

Oh. I have ad-blocked the comments – don’t see ’em.

  6. LCDR_Fish

This the course we played on last summer? Nice location and great course – but yeah, I appreciated you asking the folks nearby to keep the toking to a minimum while I’m still on orders ;p

    • dbleagle

Yeah, trying to explain a hot test as a contact high probably not going to work.

Though when the Grateful Dead played the Tacoma Dome in the early 1980’s the Ranger battalion at Ft Lewis suspended urinalysis for 30 days.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

      Yep, it was ๐Ÿ˜ fun

      • Brochettaward

        Thank you.

Install the extension Tampermonkey and use that to load the Eyepiece script.

  7. Ownbestenemy

    Nice writeup Yusef. Thanks!

    • Ownbestenemy

Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for the American experiment yet.…more fitting here.

      • rhywun

Counterpoint: Sandy from the Block cruised to victory again.

      • slumbrew

        It’s a D+28 district vs Bowman’s D+20. So almost 30% more retarded.

      • Ownbestenemy

Or..slight hope that the more sane Ds are seeing the crazy Ds and thinking…We have a lot of DBs in the Ds and voted out the DB for a lessor DB?

      • slumbrew

        I guess that’s really 40%.

Math is hard, let’s go shopping!

    • grrizzly

Why should I care that AIPAC spent gazillions of dollars to replace a progressive Democrat who occasionally was not willing to suck Israel’s cock by another progressive Democrat who will suck it all the time?

      • dbleagle

You are correct in the sense of the relative merits between the two leeches. My Rep. “Pull My Fire Alarm” is the first member of da Squad to go down. It is NYC, so the GOPer losing (if there even one on the ballot) is ordained.

      • grrizzly

Me rep is Ayanna Pressley. The only problem with the progressive Dem incumbent she defeated in the primary in 2018 was that he was a white male. Okay, Italian. He was just as TDS progressive Democrat as her.

  8. Ownbestenemy

    There are other sources

Well, not really unless your local news has their own weather radar or pull in the FAA feed of their TDWR. However the TDWR doesn’t do radial velocity and tornado detection.

    • Ownbestenemy

Oh and expect this to be widespread. We are moving from TDM (time domain modulation) to IP on a whole in the FAA and I would expect also the NWS is doing the same. Verizon is our ‘contractor’ so; good luck Glibbies!

      • Gustave Lytton

        TDM = time division multiplexing

    Random thoughts:

Paul Darrow is a terrible actor.

    EH Taylor is overrated.

Mexican avocados suck compared to CA ones. They do make good bananas, much better than Guatemala or Ecuador.

    • Sean

At $42 per bottle, it was superb. I have an unopened bottle waiting for a special occasion.

  10. hayeksplosives

Cool write up, Yusef. With nice pictures as always.

I like it when a fellow Glib can give us insight into a hobby/world we donโ€™t otherwise know.

    Enjoy the summer!

    • UnCivilServant

Yesterday I thought it was wednesday.

      Today I’m disappointed.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean and U! (I suspect GL and HE were staying up late rather than getting up early.)

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

โ€˜90s Abba standin this morning, eh? I guess Iโ€™ve heard worse.

      • rhywun

An MTV staple for us of a certain age.

    • Gender Traitor

Has he been part of The Squad or just an “ally”? I thought The Squad was all chicks. (I try not to pay too close attention to stuff like this for the sake of my mental health.)

      • UnCivilServant

I don’t know or care. Those sorts of annoying nicknames are not useful to me, so I couldn’t tell you which paracites are or are not part of that particular clique.

      • UnCivilServant

Sorry if my tone came off rude, I am dealing with work frustrations.

      • Gender Traitor

No need to apologize – I understand completely. I’m hoping I have at least one less frustration to deal with when I get back to work today (the ongoing saga of how to get 401(k) money from payroll processor to investment company. ๐Ÿคž)

    • Ted S.

Our POS Democratic Socialist member of the Assembly won her primary. :-p

      • Ted S.

        Er, ๐Ÿ™

      • Gender Traitor

Was there anyone even marginally better running against her?

      • Ted S.

Staffer for the previous member, who jad served for 20-some years and was more of an all politics are local guy.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

He lost to a huwhite guy? I had no idea NY was so irredeemably racist. I mean, why else would you not vote for Bowman?

  11. UnCivilServant

One thing I really hate is all the crap and cruft that runs on the work desktop that I can’t just purge. It’s a bunch of garbage added in case users of application soandso need it.

I don’t need any of it, but I can’t kill the processes or disable their start. The damn machine is pegged at over 95% memory usage all the time, and a lot of that isn’t even my stuff.

    • Gender Traitor

As long as they didn’t start with cells from Abby Normal. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ˜ณ

      • UnCivilServant

But she’s the most normal person in the donor list!

  12. UnCivilServant

Random thought – when a seeing-eye dog gets old and goes blind, can it get a service animal to help?

I know, the dog probably just gets retired and the human has to get a new animal directly, but it’s funnier that way.

    • Gender Traitor

It seems only fair that a veteran service animal should be eligible for its own service animal! ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

I guess the question then becomes how far one could take that… ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ…

      • Gender Traitor

        (better emoji: ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿฆฎ…)

      • UnCivilServant

I really don’t like how the comments show multiple different images for the same emoji depending on whether you’re in the composition window, the actual comment, or the dashboard.

      • Fourscore

I need a service dog (preferably Army) to find my glasses
