The Bronx Warriors

Well, here we go. New site, new block editor. Not sure what this will look like yet. Can I embed movies?

I must say, I am enjoying the change of pace using Plex. I can verify there are more commercials after doing a hand count last time. The good thing is that there is some variety, unlike TUBI. Seriously, this meme shouldn’t make me laugh with commercial recognition.

Tonight we celebrate The Warriors by watching a movie that is… Not The Warriors. It channels it in spirit! In fact, it’s even crazier! When you have Fred Williamson as “The Ogre” and Vic Morrow as “Hammer,” you know you have a fine B movie. And yes, this was the next to last movie Vic ever made, as he died during the filming of The Twilight Zone movie.

How ridiculous are the street gangs? Well, we have a gang of hockey players, a gang of motorcycle riders and a gang of dancers. The origin story of this movie seems sketchy, since The Warriors had come out in 1979 and was already famous by 1982. From IMDB:

According to an article in “Coming Attractions” magazine, the movie was conceived when producer Fabrizio De Angelis missed a subway train stop for his Manhattan hotel and ended up in the South Bronx–similar to the plot of the novel and film The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990)–which at the time was a notoriously dangerous area, infested by street gangs, drug addicts, and just about every type of criminal there was. Entire blocks of the neighborhood had been reduced to rubble by fires, both accidental and deliberately set. De Angelis walked through the area and was both enthralled and repelled by the devastation he saw and the assortment of derelicts, criminals and obvious mental cases. Soon he was confronted by thugs with switchblades and quickly made his escape. He got back to his hotel in one piece, and the experience inspired this film.

So watch!  Or donā€™t! Everything is voluntary until your city is overrun by ridiculous street gangs… Oh wait, that happened. Not sure what movie runs next week, but it will be fun!

Help!  Plex is a strange thing and I am frightened like a little giiiirl!

Hello. My name is R.J. I am a Tulpa with extra cheese and sour cream.

  1. Common Tater

They even got a black guy with the same mustache.

  2. DEG

I’m going to watch this later, I need to be up a bit earlier than usual tomorrow. Thanks RJ!

    • R.J.

I am taking the day off. Work stress, home repair from the storms and prepping my daughter for summer camp has left me desirous of a day off.

  3. Gender Traitor

She’s being attacked by Devo wannabe’s??

    • R.J.

Itā€™s pretty silly. The lead biker guy looks like young Paul Stanley, not a tough biker. I hear KISS songs in my head whenever he appears on screen.

  4. CPRM

Fred “The Hammer” Williamson doesn’t play Hammer?

    • R.J.

No, he plays Ogre. Because Italians, thatā€™s why!

  5. CPRM

The Warriors meets Escape from New York?

  6. Common Tater

Shirtless guy looks like Richard Ramirez.

    • R.J.

Whether heā€™s Paul Stanley or Richard Ramirez look-alike, I now name him Tits McGee.

      • Chafed

        Lol

    • Evan from Evansville

Richard Ramirez was a frightfully monstrous human. IIRC one woman he attacked lived after he shot her in the head. Kinda bounced off or something? That’s a helluva ringin’ of the bell. Atta girl and *fistbump*

That fucks’ a sparkling definition of a person ceded their ‘right’ to live. I fully believe the best way for society to evict such folk is to just pop ’em in the back of the head, though I’m anti-death penalty. The State shouldn’t have that power. Exile wouldn’t be bad, but hasn’t been viable for a century+. *furrows brow*

  7. Gender Traitor

Gah! HealthCare.gov ads AGAIN! Repeatedly! šŸ˜£

    • R.J.

I have been getting 8 short ads in a row.

  8. Common Tater

Nice day to practice my hi-hats.

    • R.J.

Haha, yea. WTF was that supposed to be?

    • Ted S.

      What about arrow collars?

  9. R.J.

KK Wants to Zoom tonight. Probably start around 8:00.

    • Gender Traitor

      But it’s already past 8:30! šŸ˜‰

      • R.J.

Central time! Central time! I will be there in 30 minutes.

      • R.J.

Actually I am there now, CPRM is in the room on mute. He may be passed out from all the heroin.

      • Chafed

        He’s living the dream.

    • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

Just muted CPRM and I’m too drained to initiate conversation (sorry CPRM). Let me know if things get going.

      • R.J.

No, just two muted guys. It’s almost as bad as when Shpip was just staring into space, smoking a cigar and ignoring me for like 30 minutes. I thought maybe I was in purgatory then.

  10. Gender Traitor

Ah, the wages of (sexual) sin, in the finest horror movie tradition!

  11. LCDR_Fish

OT – the kickstarter for 3d printer files for a cthulhu game (can’t use yet) just ended – and I also saw this one recommended… https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modiphius/cohors-cthulhu-tactics-adventure-wargame?ref=discovery

Need to watch some of the vids but the look and concept of roman legionaries fighting shoggoths is pretty cool – esp if I can play it solo (even if I still haven’t done anything with my Blackhammer Fortress board game). Need to watch a few vids and do some more research before I back though.

  12. Ted S.

One of the Warrior movies needed to have a gang of the tennis mimes from the end of Blow-Up.

  13. Winston

Very appropriate day for a movie about NYC being a shithole.

    • R.J.

I thought so. I did not expect it to go out the exact day of the verdict though. That was a surprise.

    • Rebel Scum

Is it also premised on the testimony of a whore looking for a payday…and Stormy Daniels?

      • R.J.

No, but you know Full Moon productions will buy the rights to that. “Barbie and Kendra Save the Constitution” will be in production soon, I think.

  14. R.J.

I have some block editor notes:
Regarding picture size: There is no S/M/L anymore. BUT, the pictures have handles kind of like regular graphics. The handles are in the middle of the picture, not in the corners. I suppose WordPress has to be special. Anyway, if you grab a handle and push it, the entire picture shrinks or expands. It does not squeeze or distort the image like you would think.
Regarding the “Publish” button: When you are ready to submit for review, hit “Publish.” It turns the button into “Submit for Review.” Then you click it again to submit for review. Just like the old editor, you can still go back in and fix stuff up until it is actually scheduled.

    • UnCivilServant

hit ā€œPublish.ā€ It turns the button into ā€œSubmit for Review.ā€ Then you click it again

So, instead of hitting it once, I now have to hit it twice?

      • R.J.

        YES

      • UnCivilServant

        šŸ¤”

That does not seem like an improvement.

      • Gender Traitor

Since when are new versions of software actually “improvements”?

      • R.J.

        IT IS NOT
An improvement. But it is a minor issue in the great scheme of life.

  15. Winston

Once things go to shit they can get very shitty very rapidly. For example Thomas Paine found himself imprisoned by the Revolutionary French government not even three years after he published the first part of Rights of Man. Or look at how the Russian and Itanian Revolutions turned out.

  16. Gender Traitor

I got in some evening Tranquility Base time until it started getting dark. (Saw a deer in the yard of the house diagonally behind us. Hope it stays away from the state highway just yards away!) I paused the movie when I folded up the laptop to come back inside, but by the time I opened it up again, it was asking for a log in, so I think I’m done watching it for now. (The ’74 version of The Front Page is on TCM, so I’m checking that out.)

    • Common Tater

Jack Lemmon dresses like he could be a pimp in this movie.

      • Gender Traitor

Not nearly so much as some of the characters in the GlibFlick!

  17. UnCivilServant

    šŸ¤¬

I intentionally ordered my new laptop late in the day so that it would arrive on saturday when I would be at home to recieve it. Some damn fool expedited it and of course set it as “signature required” so that it would arrive while I am at the office.

    • Gustave Lytton

Yeah, that is annoying. I selected the delivery day for a reason, don’t do me a “favor”.

      • UnCivilServant

I’ve reached out to my supervisor and asked to swap around remote days so I could sign for the delivery (and stated exactly why I wanted to)

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

Don’t worry, it will be delayed anyway. :p

    • Gender Traitor

Aargh! I don’t suppose there’s a link anywhere with something like “Change delivery instructions”? (I think Amazon has that, at least sometimes.)

    • Ownbestenemy

USPS? FedEx? UPS? Any of those you could contact and either hold or reschedule

      • UnCivilServant

        Theoretically.

        It’s never worked for me.

      • Ownbestenemy

Didn’t work cause they are stuck on a roundabout.

      • R.J.

        *Golf clap
        +1 cross-post reference

    • DrOtto

I must live in a really nice neighborhood. Deliveries marked “signature required” are routinely just left on our stoop even when the wife is home to sign for them.

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not going to gamble on a $700 laptop not disappearing…

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

No, you just have a lazy delivery guy. Like everyone else.

  18. Gustave Lytton

First strawberries of the season. Got 2 pints sliced up for dessert. I may go back for more because I do have a pantry key.

    • Ownbestenemy

Ive got a handful, but I only planted a couple of bushes. Lettuce though..I can feed 100 rabbits.

    • Gustave Lytton

Another 5 pints for eating or jam making.

  19. Ownbestenemy

I should be asleep. Gotta wake up in a few hours to drive down to Louisville. Good thing is, once done and dropped off the company vehicle, I am weekend bound.

  20. Ownbestenemy

Huh, I would have thought the progressives would have treated today like a Superbowl or other championship. Glad to see both sides not being dumbasses in the rioty sense.

    • R.J.

Just don’t watch the news for a while.

      • slumbrew

I plan to extend my multi-year streak of not watching the news.

      • R.J.

I think that is the healthiest possible habit for the next five years or so.

    • Brochettaward

I mean, at some point shouldn’t the right riot? January 6th was a walk in the park compared to what our dear leaders deserve.

      • Winston

        The right have jobs.

Also they think SCOTUS will save them or the election won’t be rigged.

Or afraid rioting will give The Dems the pretext for another purge.

      • R.J.

Bro! Is it me, or have you not been around?

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

‘Don’t resist because then we’ll lose’ doesn’t seem like a winning strategy either.

        Hm.

  21. R.J.

CPRM, I forgot to tell you I am going to see Phantom of Paradise with Paul Williams. He’s going to introduce the film hang out afterwards.

    • Common Tater

Bring squid. That mf loves squid.

      • R.J.

        Done.

    • Beau Knott

      Love that movie!
      Rocky Horror’s predecessor by a year…

  22. Evan from Evansville

BOOOM! I strongly approve. Morrow was in Columbo. Top of resume and tombstone, that shit. Williamson, say no more. I’d like to be an honorary street hood/Warrior. (Or a real Warrior, fuck it.) I got one of my skull’s scars buzzed in, as I planned.

I was having second thoughts cuz today’s been a bit goofy, but I’m quite quite glad I went through. Definitely clear, but I have plenty o’ hair to cover it up. (Stefanski bloodline helped. Not Pie-related.) I kinda-sorta want the kids to know me as Uncle Evster. (Rather that (Uncle) Fester.) C’mon. It’s too perfect to pass up. Unlike the hottie at the barbershop who I think made an obvious “approachable” signal that I was good to chat more and at least get a #. I believe I ignored it at the time, cuz being social and all. Tempted to just go back and chat again. What’s the worst that could happen? ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

  23. Mojeaux

The first to die were the lucky ones.

Yep, just shoot me in the head first thing out of the gate, and I’ll be about my eternal business and leave everybody else to it.

  24. Translucent Chum

FWIW this is also on Prime Video. Diving in.

Is there any way to get the monocle working again on desktop chrome? Or any way to be able to skip to new comments? Just curious.

      • juris imprudent

Thanks for putting that there. I installed. Don’t know if you care about the install script or not, but it never says when it is done, though it did go into effect on this tab without restarting the browser, so that was cool.

  25. Evan from Evansville

I’m in zoom! I’m the nite owl, I know it. *kicks pebble*

    • Evan from Evansville

I was. I’m still reading here. Would join again.

    • R.J.

      Awww.
      I left about 9:00.

      • R.J.

I turn into a large green pumpkin early lately. It’s too much work. There was a good discussion on Plex and movies, I think I settled on a good one for next week. Next week will be “Cultural Appropriation Week.”

      • Gustave Lytton

The Quiet Man or a Charlie Chan entry?

      • Gustave Lytton

“Quiet please! Honorable movie is starting.”

      • R.J.

Oh, it’s a surprise! And not a Charlie Chan film.

  26. Translucent Chum

    Hammer? Isn’t he a bit risky? šŸ˜†

  27. Translucent Chum

    And fighting makes her horny…

  28. CPRM

Looking around Plex I came across this. It seems to be 90 minutes of cutscenes from a video game that doesn’t exit and you don’t get to play, just watch the cutscenes and miss the connecting tissue. It is so very odd that it might actually be art? I’m entranced by it’s very nature of making no sense and looking like a mid 00s video game.

    • R.J.

It’s on IMDB. This was actually supposed to be a movie.

  29. Gustave Lytton

Sweet Sixteen is on. Steed as protective parent. As believable as being the Imperious Leader.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

PBS used to be lefty but sane at least and his shows were classic old timey noninsane lefty elitist cringeā€¦RIP.

  30. Sean

    Happy Friday Glibs!

    šŸ™ŠšŸ‘€šŸŒž

I can’t believe the Dems just re-elected Trump. Still amazed.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OXcrEVFZOXs

    šŸŽ¶šŸŽ¶

    Fuck yeah.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I agree that this wonā€™t necessarily hurt him but you do know what the next step is donā€™t you? Because theyā€™re trying to put him in prison they CANā€™T let him win.

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

Nothing says you can’t run the government from prison.

That actually may be an improvement. All government reps should start their terms from jail, to be released once their term is over, if they’ve been good.

      • rhywun

I have a feeling they have some more tricks up their sleeve.

If they can get away with this, what can they not get away with.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Him actually having to go to prison isnā€™t what Iā€™m really worried about. If his polling tanks and their ruse works heā€™ll die in prison from one or more of these cases, if it still looks like heā€™ll win in a way that canā€™t be falsified away heā€™llā€¦well, you know.

Maybe Iā€™m being too pessimistic but the mafia offs each other over the same stakes all the time and the people in our current government and shadow government have nowhere near the moral fiber of the mafia.

  31. Beau Knott

    Good morning all!
Today, one more from Concrete Blonde.

    Joey.

    Share and enjoy!

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Beau and Sean!

      • Beau Knott

        Mornin’ GT!

      • Gender Traitor

        How are you today, Beau?

      • Beau Knott

Faintly annoyed, on general grounds. lol
Should be a calm and fairly peaceful day. Errand free, as well!
        How are you doing?

      • Gender Traitor

Pretty good. In the tricky position at work of figuring out how to divide time between moving from old office into new (which I’m liking) and working on my regular work. But everything that has to get done will get done.

    • rhywun

      šŸ‘šŸ»Good song.

    • juris imprudent

Well that tune knocked the one out of my head that I probably would’ve posted because it was rattling around in there since I woke up. Probably better this way.

      Good morning all.

      • Gender Traitor

        Good morning, JI!

  32. Ownbestenemy

Nice drive down south to Louisville.

Gets to site. “Did you create my account so I can do the work?” “Uh, no we forgot”….well good thing I am a sys admin with a bit too much knowledge.

    • Gender Traitor

That could have ended very badly for someone.

  33. UnCivilServant

According to Spectrum, my internet is out.

Which is odd, because I’m connected just fine.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Stop believing wht your experience tells you and reboot your modem and router.

    • Gender Traitor

Would you like for someone to look up the Cal score for you?

      • Gender Traitor

Old joke from TOS days – someone commented that their internet was out and asked if anyone knew the Cal score. (Don’t know which Cal nor what sport.)

      • Not Adahn

        Playa Manhattan.

      • juris imprudent

Playa Manhattan and it was college football season when Cal sucked (which is often).

      • UnCivilServant

Well, I’ve never followed sportsball, so I don’t really need any of the scores.

      • Not Adahn

I was surprised how much of a fratbro he was IRL. It was good of him to make it cross-country for the memorial.

  34. Not Adahn

    Good morning!

I added a camp stool, a collapsable garden rake and a squib rod to my CRO kit.

Did anyone read the ā€œthirty-four crimesā€?

    Itā€™s the same ā€œcrimeā€ thirty-four times, really.

There is nothing in the verdicts that mentions election fraud, that I could see. It was simply, ā€œwith intent to deceive, Trump falsified financial transactions, as revealed in his business records/check stub.ā€

There isnā€™t much more than that, so the jury must either have seen notes scribbled in the ledgers that said, ā€œfake payment to Cohen that is really going to S. Danielsā€, or they relied on their ability to psychoanalyze Trumpā€™s intentions when ā€œmaking false recordsā€.

  37. cavalier973

Cohenā€™s word was the evidence for that.

    *eyeroll

  38. cavalier973

Anyway, someone in one of the dead threads was soliciting ideas for a bumper sticker, etc.

ā€œIā€™m voting for the Outlawā€ seems to be growing in popularity.
