¿martes? No… ¡miércoles por la tarde, enlaces mexicanos!

I spent some time away with my family last week. Nice to be back. We went on a tour of the national parks in Washington state. Nice weather and all. This did include a short trip to Seattle where we did see a few of the tourist attractions around the Space Needle. While it was always on my bucket list to take a piss off the Space Needle, I settled for spitting. Relax it was windy; it probably dissipated on the way down.

The best story from Seattle was the enormous chessboard in one of the parks near the stadiums. I played a few games with my sons when a homeless guy called for the winner. I at first was hesitant to okay with a fentanyl postured rando that was clearly high when he asked but my wife said, “cmon he wants to play.” 🙄

Anyways. It was bad enough he was pretty good but in the end he resigned, blaming “really good weed” for kicking in at a bad time.

¡enlaces!

Border arrests down by 29% for the month of June which implies they were actually making arrests.

How did the border affect the Tohono-O’odham reservation? Well shit, lets think about this CNN. The border runs through the reservation, both countries “recognize” their “sovereignty” and tribal members can cross between countries at will via fences with literal open gates with no real way to determine who is part of the tribe? Nobody would exploit that at all.

Without the gods, man is nothing. -Poseidon

Did 11.5 million migrants cross since Brandon took office? Fact Check: No, it is probably closer to 8 million. Fact check: Ted Cruz is a dirty, fucking liar because he might be conflating “migrant” with ”migrant encounters”. Fact check: Newsweek is just speculating now but Cruz might be counting migrants that went over multiple times, as if this actually makes him wrong about the severity if the situation or the distinction makes the situation seem any more ideal, in any sense of the word. Fact check…

The El Presidenté Dudebro regime was accused of arresting, sentencing, and torturing children according to a Human Rights Watch report. AP didn’t link the report at all, Al Jazeera sort of did, and HRW finally linked their own report. At this point I’m just going to link the report here without reading it because if I have to go this far to find it, its probably bullshit.

SERENITY NOW! Have a great Tuesday Wednesday.

If you’re a cop and someone points a rifle at you, why would you not draw your firearm after ducking back down behind the building/cover, then pop up and engage? Why would you retreat down the ladder when rifle holder could walk over and plug you as you’re descending?

    • kinnath

What did he know when he went up the ladder?

There is a report of someone suspicious on the roof . . . .

There is a report of someone with a rifle on the roof . . . .

At least one of the people interviewed on camera said they were screaming that there was a man with a rifle on the roof.

    • SDF-7

The very unkind part of me thinks: “Because you’re pissing your pants and want to find somewhere to hide?”

Maybe there’s protocol (the more kind part of me thinks), I don’t know… but I’d at a minimum expect a radio call of “Active shooter!” or something and the sniper team that was watching him to ask him to tea and scones to do something before the kid could swivel back and set up his shot.

Granted, never been in that environment or scenario…

      • Nephilium

I would be pretty terrified of popping my very inviting head as a target when the armed suspect had already starting aiming at me. I’m also going to guess the ladder he was on was not the most secure one. I’m not going to judge him too poorly for not popping up and trying to shoot him. Hell, I’ll give him some credit for not blind firing over the ledge.

    • Ownbestenemy

      Story is getting clearer.

“I want to tell you about my officer. He was not climbing a ladder. He was not in a position to engage the suspect at all,” he said, explaining that there was an officer on the ground hoisting him up with cupped hands so he could investigate what was happening on the roof.

Local smoky was assigned traffic control and actually took it upon himself, or with a fellow officer, to do some investigating.

Where is that Spiderman meme of pointing at each other when you need it.

      • kinnath

        Then, I’d give him pass.

      • Ownbestenemy

That’s just what they want us to believe! It adds more mud to the murky water!

Only 8 million migrant encounters, and we know (without evidence) that ICE has encountered every single person who crossed the border. If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge across the border to sell you.

Vance’s pro-worker credentials are likely to come under renewed scrutiny before November, especially from Democrats and progressives who see his populism as a rhetorical mask for a traditionally corporate-friendly conservative agenda. Despite claiming the moniker of “pro-worker conservative,” for instance, Vance opposes the PRO Act, organized labor’s biggest legislative push.

He doesn’t really care about the workers. You can tell because he isn’t in the pocket of the union bosses.

    • Ownbestenemy

I mean..there is such a thing. Hell, they might even encounter them in the wild if they ever step outside of the city and do that weird thing that some call “talking” to others

      • Dr. Fronkensteen

But looking on the bright side the Union elections will be more secure than ever.

“The PRO Act would alter union election rules. For example, it would allow unions to hold elections through mail ballots or electronic ballots.”

      • UnCivilServant

The Union I was forced to join does ballots through a double-envelope mail-in system. They get mailed to the American Arbitration Association, who extracts the secret ballot envelopes from the member-identifable envelopes, then opens and counts the ballots in a location announced and open to observation by any member. It is rare for a president to get a third term.

The other big union counts its own ballots in secret. It’s rare for officers to change.

      • UnCivilServant

These are not votes on whether or not to unionize. These are periodic elections.

I’ve got a post pretty much drafted, but its my first using the block editor, and damned if I can figure out how to:

    Add the feature image
    Add the excerpt
    Pick the categories

    Little help here?

    • UnCivilServant

On the uper left there’s an icon that’s a square separated into two uneven rectangles which tooltips as “Settings” click it and in the popout pane, switch to “Post” Categorries, exceprt, and featured image are all there

      • Tonio

        Damn your nimble fingers.

      • R C Dean

        Got it. Thanks.

I wish my Life in the Desert post hadn’t gotten submitted under the old editor and then published after the “upgrade”. It made the pics small, and that was pretty much the whole point of that post. The block editor works pretty well for inserting pics and whatnot.

    • Tonio

On the top of the sidebar on the right, pick POST (instead of BLOCK) and those controls will be there.

Alternately, you can email the FI, excerpt, and categories to me, my_handle (at) this_here_domain (dot) com, and I will fix it up for you.

Also, I’ll try to get the how-to guide updated for the newfangled editor.

“A Missouri clinic that pressured parents into letting their kids undergo risky sex change procedures has shuttered in what officials hail as a ‘huge win’ for child safety in the state.

The Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital shuttered last week, following an outcry over claims that doctors there pushed puberty blockers and other procedures on minors.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey on Tuesday said the clinic had ‘mutilated’ too many kids and that its closure was a ‘major step’ toward halting controversial sex change procedures.

‘I want Missouri to be the safest state in the nation for children,’ said the dad-of-four.

‘The closure of any clinic that has mutilated children is a major step towards that goal. I will not stop until the clandestine network of clinics mutilating children is permanently dismantled, and bad actors are held accountable.'”

Vice President Kamala Harris in a short video released early Wednesday said former President Donald Trump’s new running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, will act as a “rubber stamp” for Trump and his “extreme” agenda.

“Donald Trump has picked his new running mate: J.D. Vance. Trump looked for someone he knew would be a rubber stamp for his extreme agenda,” Harris said in the video. “Make no mistake: J.D. Vance will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country.”

    ——-

“And if elected, he will help implement the extreme Project 2025 plan for a second Trump term, which would target critical programs like Head Start and Medicare,” Harris said.

She added, “But we are not going to let that happen.”

That sounds like a violent threat.

This is why I bought a 1962 John Deere 2010 tractor. Its why all the farmers are buying older tractors and driving the prices up.

The first article I saw about this was probably five years ago. “Prices for older equipment skyrocketing at auctions.”

Maybe that’s why Deere is laying off hundreds of people in the midwest

Deere & Co. is laying off nearly 600 workers as the farm equipment manufacturer deals with declining demand.

Deere confirmed Monday that the production positions being cut are concentrated at two factories in Iowa and one at its home base in Moline, Illinois, where 280 employees will be laid off effective Aug. 30. A combined 310 workers will be let go at the Iowa locations.

  29. Tundra

“Make America Great Once Again” is the theme of the RNC.

That’s so dumb I’m having trouble processing it. With all that money they can’t hire a decent marketing person?

    • Brochettaward

      Make America First Again

      Boom. Solved.

    • R.J.

      MAGOA?
Should have gone one more and be MAGOAT. Make America the Greatest of All Time.
Repub site lurkers, you owe me big for that one. No personal checks!

      • Urthona

Cause record inflation and shutdown the economy again!

      • R.J.

I fully expect this looking at what he proposed.

    • Tundra

See? In 5 seconds we’ve got two vastly superior slogans.

    • Grumbletarian

      Restore American Values and Excellence

      RAVE 2024!

  30. Nephilium

Just as a point of order for everyone, it’s JD Vance, not J.D. Vance.

    • Urthona

When will we learn what JD stands for?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Just IL Duce

      • Nephilium

Do I need to link local news again? They had a whole article about that.

Never mind he’s a fucking senator from this state.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

        Junior Dictator. Duh.

      • Grumbletarian

        Jefferson Davis

    • Urthona

Man, you know I won’t read it.

      • Nephilium

Shit… I don’t even know what my cousin JR’s initials stand for.

  31. The Late P Brooks

“He is vaccinated and boosted, and he is experiencing mild symptoms. He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time.”

Have they got Kamala locked in the basement?

    • Tundra

Her numbers aren’t good. They’ll probably just change the locks and disable her email.

      • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

“We fixed the problem… Now, tell me, what exactly do you do around here?”

      • Urthona

They are currently, however, better than Trump’s and within at least possible range of victory.

The legal machinations of getting an entirely new candidate from elsewhere would be quite difficult and there would be change ballot fights in a great many states.

      • Urthona

        Sorry, I mean Biden’s numbers vs Trump’s

      • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

Kamala is, realistically, the only other possible candidate. The issue she really has is that her numbers go up when she isn’t talking or in front of people.

    • Urthona

There are photos of him like an hour before randomly shaking hands at a restaurant UNMASKED. Clearly the antichrist.

    • R C Dean

Is that the same doctor who told us he was fit as a fiddle, vigorous, sharp as a tack, nothing wrong with Joe, nosiree?

Because otherwise I would think the timing is awfully convenient.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

It’s not the virus. It’s Can’t Operate Verbally, Intellectually Degraded.

      • Sean

If he drops out now, I’ll believe the botched hit was done by Dems/.gov.

  32. Suthenboy

Wife came out and interrupted my garden watering.
“Joe Biden has just been diagnosed with the cooties.”

I see. So today he says he will quit if his docs tell him to, now he has the cooties. What are the chances he lives a week?

    • Urthona

      President Kamala here we come!

      • Suthenboy

Acting President Kamelamadingdong. I am sure they will run someone else while she keeps their place.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

It makes no difference to the Cabal….

    • R.J.

Pretty good, COVID is nearly harmless now. He’ll get snot on girls’ hair for a while and then be all right.

      • Urthona

I had covid over the weekend and it was certainly not pleasant, though.

  33. The Late P Brooks

    This was it for me.

Buying farm equipment shouldn’t be tantamount to placing yourself in indentured servitude?

    • Sensei

If you commit to Team Green you commit.

    • Suthenboy

John Deere? Or are they all like that now?

      • Gustave Lytton

Even the Indian knockoff stuff isn’t cheap anymore (no surprise).

  34. Mojeaux

My Twix followers are all over the place politically. About half of them are writers or artists, so, you know.

The screeching about Trump winning is over the top for a bunch of people WHO HAVE ALREADY LIVED UNDER A TRUMP rEgImE. “I need to get out of this country, but other people aren’t accepting immigrants who can’t bring business with them. I’d be a drain on their resources.”

The lack of self-awareness is breathtaking.

    • Tundra

They just don’t want to relive the horrors, Mo.

Especially after the last few years of sheer joy and prosperity.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I bet plenty of countries would accept them and their meager resources that’d still be above average there. Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, The Central African Republic, Yemen…they’d love to have a few more artists.

      • Suthenboy

        Not Venezuela?

    • Urthona

I’ve never been a yuge Trump fan but the absolute best thing about his presidency was the hysteria from Dems. Man, that shit sustains me.

  35. R C Dean

“The El Presidenté Dudebro regime was accused of arresting, sentencing, and torturing children”

A quick scan showed they mentioned two 17 year olds and a 16 year old. No mention was made of any other ages.

Now, I have no doubt there are due process violations galore, but that’s some pretty tendentious shit – people that age are routinely tried and sentenced as adults in the US if what they are accused of is bad enough.

    • Suthenboy

      So, gang members.

      • R C Dean

Odds are, yeah. But the kind of sweeps they have been doing and their minimalist due process, there’s gotta be some in there who aren’t.

  36. The Late P Brooks

“I need to get out of this country, but other people aren’t accepting immigrants who can’t bring business with them. I’d be a drain on their resources.”

    *guffaws, slaps knee*

    • Suthenboy

If she ends up the nominee she will have to debate Trump, which will be historic. You know, historic tomorrow which is the future for us today like today was the future for us yesterday…to us.

  37. Tundra

    Ok, this is pretty funny.

Although I sure would like to see Kammy squre off against the Hillbilly.

    • Sensei

So you don’t have to give them the clicks.

“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate,” Trump campaign aide Brian Hughes said in a statement.

      • LCDR_Fish

What’s hilarious is that Newsom just shafted his chances for the next couple of cycles (outside CA) – according to the California Policy Center guys I listen to – by signing the law that forces schools to lie to parents about their kids.

Not that it’ll hold up in court, but it’s the final straw as far as Newsom having any appeal outside his state.

      • J. Frank Parnell

From what I understand, I don’t think it forces them to lie, I think it prevents them from being forced to tell the truth.

      • The Last American Hero

Newsom didn’t shaft shit. He’s very popular in California and the media would fucking swoon over him. His hair is the most presidential in 40 years next to Romney. The media would flip the “age is a problem” script overnight and everyone will follow along.

Also, take a look at the electoral map and tell me what states going for Biden would flip to Trump over Newsom.

      • Grumbletarian

Also, take a look at the electoral map and tell me what states going for Biden would flip to Trump over Newsom.

      • Suthenboy

Apparently ‘dont believe your lying bank statements’ doesnt work on some people. Newsome can keep flapping his jaws until they fall off, the businesses are still gone.

  38. The Late P Brooks

According to Newsom, Musk is “bending the knee” to Trump by moving Xwixxer and SpaceX to Texas in response to stupid California laws.

Could Newsom be any more of a slimy douchebag?

    • Tundra

      Yes. Just wait.

    • R.J.

      Yes. He can.

  39. The Late P Brooks

    Thus begins the death vigil

“The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation,” she said.

Biden boarded Air Force One in Las Vegas around 6:30 p.m. ET, the White House pool reported. The president was not wearing a mask as he boarded the plane.

Will Foochy be brought in to consult?

    • R.J.

They can sacrifice a few beagles and make joe’s COVID go away.

    • The Other Kevin

Poor SF, he writes 3 days straight and now this. I imagine he’s having Hunter S. Thompson days full of binge drinking and coke.

  40. R.J.

Turns out the cop who saw the Trump shooter did actually use the blanket tactical radio channel to let any and all know about the shooter, as soon as he hit the ground.

    • Compelled Speechless

      Link please!

      • Compelled Speechless

The more I learn, the harder I find it to believe this is negligence. That guy was allowed to get rounds off.

      • CPRM

Other reports have said he fired immediately after the keystone cop dropped off the roof ledge. So the radio call might be when that sniper reorients.

      • Compelled Speechless

Right, the sniper reorients because a radio call reports a hostile on the roof, then they stare at him in the sights for 42 seconds and don’t fire back until he’s squeezed off 6 or 7 rounds. It makes so much goddamn sense.

      • Tundra

I agree with you. It makes absolutely no sense.

And since every non-regime expert is saying the same thing, I’m pretty sure this is malicious incompetence.

      • Compelled Speechless

My going theory is that they’ve been specifically instructed to leave a gaping security hole at events and ignore any asshole who exploits it until it’s too late. I can’t make sense of why the deep state would choose this kid specifically.

The report earlier today that the dad told the cops that he thought the kid was at the shooting range has me asking a bunch more questions. Sounds like his dad was a gun enthusiast (strange for a “therapist” type), so he doesn’t need to have been given the weapon by an FBI agent pulling the Steve Buschemi “hey there fellow angsty revolutionaries” meme.

  41. CPRM

    Trolling Neph:

“But for now, all eyes are on Milwaukee. And in newsrooms everywhere the debate is about whether it should be “J.D.” or “JD” — with or without the periods. Vance’s bestselling book cover lists his name as “J.D.,” but the senator’s social media pages list it both ways. Puck News asked the senator himself today and was told that he likes it as “JD” without the periods. But old habits are hard to break, so until I see how it’s written on the White House website, I’ll stick with “J.D.”

    • rhywun

It stands for John David or something like that so, it should have periods.

      • R C Dean

Meh, he goes by it as his moniker. In that case, I think it can go either way.

    • The Gunslinger

      Okay, RJ

Will Biden pulling out improve the Dem’s chances, I wonder? I had lunch today with a registered Republican who can’t stand Trump because her grandson is handicapped and Trump appallingly mocked a handicapped reporter eight years ago. Nor does she think Biden can serve, as her elderly boyfriend has Parkinson’s and she knows the debilitating nature of that disease. So, she will probably sit it out if Trump and Biden are the two choices. But if Biden is replaced…… (Her twin sister posted a photo on her own Facebook page with her arm around Newsom during a recent campaign visit.)

    • Chafed

For financial reasons, I think the Dems are stuck with Kamala if Joe bows out. She is as weak a candidate as Joe.

    • cyto

Going to Delaware to isolate… instead of the white house that has medical staff and equipment, staff to allow him to “work”….

    • cavalier973

      Covid was so 2020

  56. cyto

    Wow. Something happened.

Every network suddenly killing Biden. Not just talking about folks calling for him to step down, but their analysis is now that it is over and he is done and only Biden doesn’t know it.

      • cyto

I am still amazed at their command and control. It all happened within an hour. Suddenly, Biden was targeted as nonviable.

Also…. about 2 hours in, the White House leaks a call with Pelosi, saying she said he can’t win and will cost them a chance to take the house.

Again, the White House leaked the call.

  57. Mojeaux

I love Teladoc. 11:15 pm, in my recliner, on my iPad, I say, “I think I have X,” run down symptoms, she says, “Sounds like it. Here’s an RX,” and all I have to do is go to the pharmacy and pick up the drugs I wanted. Done in 15 mins with forms and actual visit.

    • cyto

Yup. With 3 kids it is a lifesaver. Plus, on our plan there is no copay.

      So…

USA Today must be hurting for Ad Revenue if they took that bribe.

      • Gender Traitor

In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess I couldn’t read the whole story. That site’s individual news stories disappear from my screen after a couple of seconds. I suspect it may be because of my ad blocker, but I don’t know how to turn it off even if I wanted to. Fortunately, the site will still let me see their main weather page and, most important of all Monday through Friday, the traffic map.

      • UnCivilServant

It was a short article, and the only study naming Skyline “The Best” was from USA Today. Which is why I joked that they were bribed. I have to assume that the people who ran the study were fans.

I simply don’t think Skyline rates “the best”

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Is it actually chili without beans? That’s meatsauce: “Two sausage dogs with meatsauce, please.”

      • UnCivilServant

Beans do not belong in chili, but skyline doesn’t even have large enough pieces of meat to qualify either. It’s a thin meat sauce served on spaghetti.

      • Gender Traitor

  59. Fourscore

A few days ago my yard light was “strobing”, flashing on/off at a really annoying rate and me with no disco music. Anyway, I took it down, ordered a new fixture. I decided to look at the connections, took them apart and sort of cleaned them up. Re-tightend the screws on the the plug (they were slightly loose). Hung the light back up and it works perfectly. New fixture arrives tomorrow, I’ll keep it, “just in case”, meaning it goes to the garage to be forgotten. I could use one on the garage though. Hmmm.

  60. Suthenboy

On my long list of things to get done is outside lighting. Seems that list gets longer the more things I knock out.
Now that I am retired I dont know how I ever had time to work.

  61. Suthenboy

Speaking of things to do….we and the neighbors exchange food fairly often. Tomorrow we are making this to share with them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxkBxtCcr-Q
I am looking forward to it.

What can I do to get my wife to stop watching the RNC? The almost certain election of Trump and stomping of the commies has her quite upbeat of late but I am worn out on the carnival like atmosphere of politics.

    • rhywun

I am way too fearful that Kamala will beat him, one way or another.

      • cavalier973

Kamala is far too unpopular to unite the dems against Trump.

She used to throw people in jail for smoking weed, then go smoke some weed, herself.

      • SDF-7

Weed, nothing — it should suffice to remind folks “She kept folks in prison to be slaves of CalFire.”

Literally… she kept people imprisoned expressly to use them as forced labor. If that doesn’t sink her with the African American community, you’ve got me as to what will. (And honestly every other community… but especially there…).

      • rhywun

        I hope you’re right.
