Interesting judicial system they have in Mexico. Apparently judges are not elected, but likely will be should the AMLO era reform package goes through. That doesn’t mean players in the existing system will just give up power like that.

Is this the face of a crazy person?

I’d be more impressed if I didn’t know everything was fake. As if everything reported wasn’t an attempt to curry favor with certain demographic groups.

I’m more surprised they had enough oil to qualify for the definition of “oil spill”.

I guess that’s one way to stop migrants.

Elon Musk goes Galt in Brazil, although you can still get on TwiX in Brazil.

He’s a good tune. Enjoy your Tuesday?

Protecting union jobs is right there in the Constitution

Kroger sued the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Monday, seeking to block the regulator from reviewing the grocery chain’s proposed $25 billion merger with smaller rival Albertsons in its in-house tribunal.

Kroger called the tribunal unconstitutional, saying the matter should be resolved in a federal court.

The lawsuit filed in Cincinnati comes a week before the company is scheduled to face a trial where the FTC has asked a federal judge in Portland, Oregon, to temporarily block the merger while its in-house judges review the deal.

The FTC said in a lawsuit filed in February that the deal will raise prices for millions of Americans and squeeze the labor market for unionized grocery store workers.

The Ministry of Plenty is looking out for you.

    • Suthenboy

Didn’t Trump shit-can the members of the FTC in his first term? He will cut their nuts again but he needs to be less discriminating when it comes to other agencies.

    What a wacky guy

Some allies and advisers have pressed Trump to steer clear of personal attacks on Harris – particularly any broadsides related to race and gender – and instead focus on policy issues.
He largely followed that advice on Monday. While Trump called Harris a “communist” and denigrated her policy stances, several of which he misrepresented, he attacked her in personal terms just once, when he insulted her laugh about 45 minutes into the hour-long speech.

Trump in February had signaled he would move to block the Nippon-U.S. Steel deal, a potential merger that has stirred anxiety among some unionized workers, a key voting bloc in Pennsylvania and the other “Rust Belt” swing states likely to determine the results of the election.
“I will stop Japan from buying United States Steel,” Trump said. “They shouldn’t be allowed to buy it.”
U.S. Steel said in a statement after Trump’s remarks that it is “committed to the transaction with Nippon Steel, which is the best deal for our employees, shareholders, communities, and customers.”

He called her a “communist”? That’s hilarious. Everybody knows she’s a classical liberal. And protectionism is bad when Republicans do it.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

“denigrated her policy stances, several of which he misrepresented” Stated without evidence.

      Stupid woman, fuckhead cop.

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

Not excusing the lady here. I’m not a fan of the PIT maneuver or other dangerous driving that officers engage in.

When I lived in Wichita, the city cops ran over a person crossing the street while they were pursuing a shoplifter. No lights, no sirens. Speeds estimated at 70-80 mph in a 30 mph residential district. In order to catch a shoplifter.

/they made it home safely, somebody’s grandmother did not.

      • UnCivilServant

No lights or siren? Depraved indifference homicide plus ten years for killing under the cover of an office of authority.

Twenty for the prosecutor who failed to bring charges.

      • DEG

Shortly after I first moved to NH, a cop who supposedly had his lights on but no sirens blew through a red light doing about 70 MPH on a road that has a 30 MPH speed limit. The cop t-boned a car making a turn off the side street onto the street the cop was speeding down.

The driver of the car was hospitalized in a coma. I don’t remember if he survived.

NH law at time explicitly stated that emergency vehicles responding to a call with lights and/or sirens on MUST always without exception ensure intersections are clear before proceeding through an intersection. Despite this, the usual suspects insisted the cop did nothing wrong.

I remember poking around on-line a few years later for the cop’s name. Not only was he still a cop and was never charged, he had moved up to become a detective.

You can see who really matters here.

      • DEG

Oh, I forgot the best part: The usual suspect defending the cop went on and on about how the driver of the t-boned car broke the law by not yielding to the cop.

The sight lines aren’t the greatest at that intersection, hence the traffic light. I doubt the guy turning could have seen the cop at all.

    • DEG

      Wow is right.

      Gotta go get gas!

      • The Other Kevin

She said they have two options, stay in the race or support Trump. In a separate story, they’ve run out of money and have suspended events. That plus the ballot problem will end it.

An Oakland, California, school district is the first in the US to transition to a 100% electric school bus system with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

Student transportation platform Zum has provided Oakland Unified School District with a fleet of 74 electric school buses and bidirectional chargers, and the buses made their debut last week when the school year started.

Utility Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) supplied 2.7 megawatts (MW) of load to Zum’s Oakland EV-ready facility. The fleet will be managed through Zum’s AI-enabled technology platform.

“Oakland becoming the first in the nation to have a 100% electric school bus fleet is a huge win for the Oakland community and the nation as a whole,” said Kim Raney, executive director of transportation at Oakland Unified School District. “The families of Oakland are disproportionately disadvantaged and affected by high rates of asthma and exposure to air pollution from diesel fuels.”

    Clear eyed assessment

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate Nicole Shanahan said the Kennedy campaign is considering dropping out of the race and endorsing former President Donald Trump while framing the choice through her hope of reducing “the risk” of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming president.

In an interview with podcast host Tom Bilyeu posted on Tuesday, Shanahan acknowledged the Kennedy campaign’s recent conversations with the Trump campaign, which have centered on the possibility of Kennedy endorsing Trump in exchange for a role in Trump’s administration should he win. She framed the decision on whether to endorse Trump around its impact on Harris’ chances of victory in November, arguing Kennedy pulls more votes from Trump than from Harris.

“There’s two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris — Kamala Harris and (Tim) Walz presidency. Because we draw votes from Trump, or we draw somehow more votes from Trump,” she said. “Or we walk away right now and join forces with — with Donald Trump.”

    ——-

“The question is … is the risk of a Harris-Walz presidency worth us staying in? And that’s the question we have to ask ourselves right now,” she said.

    That’ll ruffle some feathers.

I surprised today to learn that teachers are among the Americans most likely to millionaires. The average teacher salary is $66k, and when you consider they only work 3/4 of the year, that’s the equivalent of $88k. Pretty good for 4-year degree, often in the easiest major. The rest of the top 5 are engineer, accountant, manager, and I think lawyer.

        me ryt gud

      • Gustave Lytton

Lots of teachers, often highly paid in low cost areas. Good benefits including pensions.

Between 401k and house value and inflation, not as hard to be a millionaire these days.

OPINION: As a Black middle-school student, I was tracked into lower-level math classes that kept me back

By the age of 11, I could read a floor plan and calculate the length of a diagonal roofline using the Pythagorean theorem.

Meh, though that’s probably more than her friends could do at that age.

    • Derpetologist

Like many Black students, I faced challenges throughout my academic journey, with math tracking being the primary one. Despite high math scores in earlier grades and a passion for the subject, I was placed into lower-level math courses in middle school.
      ***

Most students get good math grades in elementary school because it’s easy.

The tracked classes did, however, improve my social skills and popularity. Through regular exchanges of humorous insults with fellow classmates on various topics — such as who was the least intelligent or most economically disadvantaged — I developed a well-curated arsenal of diss material.

The joke-telling also became a great defense mechanism against the stigma of having been placed in lower-level classes. So instead of practicing math during study hall, I worked on refining my repertoire of jokes. I didn’t learn much math, but I did learn how to be funny.

Perhaps if she studied in study hall (imagine that), she could have convinced teachers/admin to put her the class she wanted. Easier to be a crab in a bucket, I guess.

Spot the Not is just those first three? I don’t know the ages or which week of class this is…

I’m gonna say #1 is the Not. You’ve mentioned showing those, but “today?” Could be odd to ‘kick off’ classes with Watch TV time. Esp with need-to-focus stuff if they don’t really know you yet.

      • Evan from Evansville

Um. My bad… Spot the Nots: #1 Stossel vids #2 abortion #3 presentations

        Me thinky # 1 didn’t happen today.

      Just the election part, right?

    Deplorable stronghold

The Harris campaign attacked former President Trump for campaigning Tuesday in Howell, Mich., a city with historic ties to the Ku Klux Klan and that was the setting of a white supremacist demonstration last month, where attendees expressed support for the former president.

The Harris campaign’s Michigan communications director, Alyssa Bradley, criticized the former president for “choosing to rally in a town that was historically known as ‘the KKK capital of Michigan.’”

“This [Tuesday] event on ‘crime and safety’ isn’t a dog whistle from Trump — it’s a bullhorn,” Bradley said in a statement Monday.

“His visit underscores the core choice in this election — between a prosecutor and a criminal, someone who has spent her life making communities safer and someone who encourages violence, and someone who will build a future where all Michiganders can get ahead and someone who wants to take us back to the days of the KKK,” Bradley later added.

The town has long been associated with the klan, in large part as a result of meetings that Robert Miles, a former Michigan Grand Dragon of the klan, held at his nearby farm many decades ago. The city has worked to distance itself from that reputation, but it occasionally faces obstacles.

Those disgusting rural hicks shouldn’t even be allowed to vote.

Yes, let us condemn a city based upon whatever how many years ago. Its citizens should be put in prison because they choose to live there.

If it was foul play they would have had to blow it in half, given how fast it disappeared. That would be noticeable.

Sometimes it really is just some crazy natural shit, like a waterspout.

Is that the one where the boat was hit by a waterspout? Dont need super assassins to explain that when shit luck does the trick nicely.
