Interesting judicial system they have in Mexico. Apparently judges are not elected, but likely will be should the AMLO era reform package goes through. That doesn’t mean players in the existing system will just give up power like that.
I’d be more impressed if I didn’t know everything was fake. As if everything reported wasn’t an attempt to curry favor with certain demographic groups.
I’m more surprised they had enough oil to qualify for the definition of “oil spill”.
I guess that’s one way to stop migrants.

Reactivate those Brazilian accounts.
Let them grow back naturally.
underappreciated comment
So, Mexico has a spoils system. They should keep it that way.
No one sane is fooled by the Dems pretending to crack down on the invasion. Note: They are not migrants. They are invaders.
This is not the first time a Brazilian judge has pretended to have all power over all things inside and out of Brazil. See: Britain.
Oh, just occurred to me…is this the same judge from last time or do they have that much surplus arrogance?
The legal system there appears to be a fully captured institution.
Protecting union jobs is right there in the Constitution
Kroger sued the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Monday, seeking to block the regulator from reviewing the grocery chain’s proposed $25 billion merger with smaller rival Albertsons in its in-house tribunal.
Kroger called the tribunal unconstitutional, saying the matter should be resolved in a federal court.
The lawsuit filed in Cincinnati comes a week before the company is scheduled to face a trial where the FTC has asked a federal judge in Portland, Oregon, to temporarily block the merger while its in-house judges review the deal.
The FTC said in a lawsuit filed in February that the deal will raise prices for millions of Americans and squeeze the labor market for unionized grocery store workers.
The Ministry of Plenty is looking out for you.
Didn’t Trump shit-can the members of the FTC in his first term? He will cut their nuts again but he needs to be less discriminating when it comes to other agencies.
“squeeze the labor market for unionized grocery store workers”
Also FTC: Fuck the non-union grocery workers. Who cares about them?

Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes is a big fat poopy head.
*SIGH* How many times have we heard “Freedom of expression does not mean freedom to say what you want!”
Of course not. It means you are free to parrot the official narrative.

/fact check me bro
Amazingly enough, that’s exactly what freedom of expression is FOR you [Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes] ignorant slut!
Compare
“Freedom of expression doesn’t mean freedom of aggression,” Moraes, who presides over Brazil’s Superior Electoral Tribunal, has said.
“It doesn’t mean the freedom to defend tyranny.”
And
The social media giant published pictures of a document allegedly signed by Moraes that says a daily fine of 20,000 reais ($3,653) and an arrest decree would be imposed against X representative Rachel Nova Conceicao if the platform did not fully comply with Moraes’s orders.
Oh right. Some animals are more equal than others.
Is this the face of a crazy person?

A group of 29 Colombians with criminal records were the first to be returned on Tuesday.
That’s nice. What about the 15 million or so who already made it to the US?
Shush, you!
Don’t be pointing out the obvious.
Those 29 said they planned to vote for Trump.
I’m sure they are good people however.
The best!
What a wacky guy
Some allies and advisers have pressed Trump to steer clear of personal attacks on Harris – particularly any broadsides related to race and gender – and instead focus on policy issues.
He largely followed that advice on Monday. While Trump called Harris a “communist” and denigrated her policy stances, several of which he misrepresented, he attacked her in personal terms just once, when he insulted her laugh about 45 minutes into the hour-long speech.
Trump in February had signaled he would move to block the Nippon-U.S. Steel deal, a potential merger that has stirred anxiety among some unionized workers, a key voting bloc in Pennsylvania and the other “Rust Belt” swing states likely to determine the results of the election.
“I will stop Japan from buying United States Steel,” Trump said. “They shouldn’t be allowed to buy it.”
U.S. Steel said in a statement after Trump’s remarks that it is “committed to the transaction with Nippon Steel, which is the best deal for our employees, shareholders, communities, and customers.”
He called her a “communist”? That’s hilarious. Everybody knows she’s a classical liberal. And protectionism is bad when Republicans do it.
“denigrated her policy stances, several of which he misrepresented” Stated without evidence.
Calling her a communist doesn’t register with people anymore. It’s like racist. It’s lost its meaning. There needs to be a better phrase.
Cunt?
LOL@Tundra
Not sure calling her a cunt is going to bring him voters.
Fascist, racist, communist, all are played.
“Not sure calling her a cunt is going to bring him voters.”
Indeed. People might think it is something else she gives away free.
It only makes the ones already voting for him vote harder.
Not a winning strategy.

Wow.
I hate everyone in that video.
Stupid woman, fuckhead cop.
Not excusing the lady here. I’m not a fan of the PIT maneuver or other dangerous driving that officers engage in.
When I lived in Wichita, the city cops ran over a person crossing the street while they were pursuing a shoplifter. No lights, no sirens. Speeds estimated at 70-80 mph in a 30 mph residential district. In order to catch a shoplifter.
/they made it home safely, somebody’s grandmother did not.
No lights or siren? Depraved indifference homicide plus ten years for killing under the cover of an office of authority.
Twenty for the prosecutor who failed to bring charges.
Shortly after I first moved to NH, a cop who supposedly had his lights on but no sirens blew through a red light doing about 70 MPH on a road that has a 30 MPH speed limit. The cop t-boned a car making a turn off the side street onto the street the cop was speeding down.
The driver of the car was hospitalized in a coma. I don’t remember if he survived.
NH law at time explicitly stated that emergency vehicles responding to a call with lights and/or sirens on MUST always without exception ensure intersections are clear before proceeding through an intersection. Despite this, the usual suspects insisted the cop did nothing wrong.
I remember poking around on-line a few years later for the cop’s name. Not only was he still a cop and was never charged, he had moved up to become a detective.
You can see who really matters here.
Oh, I forgot the best part: The usual suspect defending the cop went on and on about how the driver of the t-boned car broke the law by not yielding to the cop.
The sight lines aren’t the greatest at that intersection, hence the traffic light. I doubt the guy turning could have seen the cop at all.
Wow is right.
Gotta go get gas!
Trump had a campaign event today, and used the term “Kamala migrants”. That’s gonna stick.
So he finally figured out who he’s running against. Progress, I guess.
Kennedy’s VP pick did an interview floating the idea of Kennedy dropping out and endorsing Trump. Any bets on that?
That would be interesting. It seems like they are getting fed up with Dems’ actions to keep them off the state ballots. Of course the Dems are just doing that to protect their democracy.
She said they have two options, stay in the race or support Trump. In a separate story, they’ve run out of money and have suspended events. That plus the ballot problem will end it.
People have their criticisms of him, but he seems ok to me and I admire anyone who can at least get a third-party run off the ground.
Put him in charge of the CDC/NIH?
That’s a winning strategy.

The Dems are putting together a great all-star roster of people they’ve fucked with. Kennedy, Tulsi, Musk, Taibbi, I could probably list 25 more. I hope Trump is smart enough to harness that.

Heh. If Biden came out for Trump due to how he was treated, this would truly be the best timeline.
I’m not a betting man, but it certainly looks like the goal for all candidates is alienating the greatest percentage of voters possible.

We can’t even have a discussion because she thinks I’m disappointed in her failure to advance, when I’m upset that they’re being assholes to my baby and she won’t stand up for herself or go somewhere else. She thinks she’s being groomed for a leadership role. I think they’ve got a naïve and easygoing 21yo girl right where she’s most useful.
Has she asked her supervisor why she was passed over and what she would need to do to get moved to FTE?
Yes. The answer is always, “You need to learn more.”

So, I got roundup on the plants growing through the cracks in my sidewalk. The instructions say it should be soaked in enough that the forecast rain won’t stop it working. (If you believe Monsanto)
Hopefully there will be a dry enough day this week where I can take a shovel to them at the concrete line and clear out some of the detritus. That should be unfun 🥵
Just a couple hours of dry should be enough to kill the plants. Burning them after they brown is an effective way to finish up.
Propane weed torches work great for that. And ice.

I used to do this with language translation programs. Within three turns or so it had little resemblance to the initial input.
Passaging translations is a fun game. I had a dev working for me who scripted multiple passes to test the API. The game was “guess the original message.”
Some were pretty close… like English to Spanish and back….. but English to Russian to Japanese to English? Yeah, good luck. The results were often hilarious
‘Out of sight out of mind’ can become ‘invisible, insane’.
My all time favorite though is the multi-language translation train that turned “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” into “the vodka is strong but the meat is rotten.”

No, he should be removed from office. If the GOP weren’t the stupid party, they’d immediately be calling for his head. “tsk tsking” the guy for this is pointless aside from generating outrage porn. Put up or shut up. Either marshall your forces and run him out of office or go cower in the back room and let him say mean things unmolested.
At the very least they should be making this a big issue in Kentucky. Put him on defense, make him a rape appologist at every turn.
This^^^. Screw Marquis of Queensbury. They need to do it the Chicago way.
At the very least they should be making this a big issue in Kentucky.

An Oakland, California, school district is the first in the US to transition to a 100% electric school bus system with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
Student transportation platform Zum has provided Oakland Unified School District with a fleet of 74 electric school buses and bidirectional chargers, and the buses made their debut last week when the school year started.
Utility Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) supplied 2.7 megawatts (MW) of load to Zum’s Oakland EV-ready facility. The fleet will be managed through Zum’s AI-enabled technology platform.
“Oakland becoming the first in the nation to have a 100% electric school bus fleet is a huge win for the Oakland community and the nation as a whole,” said Kim Raney, executive director of transportation at Oakland Unified School District. “The families of Oakland are disproportionately disadvantaged and affected by high rates of asthma and exposure to air pollution from diesel fuels.”
Huge win. Huge.
Bidirectional chargers? Even the buses go trans in that district.
I look forward to the follow up story in a year or two when the maintenance costs come in much higher than expected.
Hopefully hear about that and not buses bursting into flame.
Wait, buses are turning into trains? But, what pulls the train?
Like the old trolĺey system?
Didn’t some municipality try that horseshit before? It was a financial and logistical disaster. I want to say after the whole thing went up in smoke the bus manufacturer was somehow connected to someone in the govt decision making process.
Guaranteed that is what this is…some kind of kickback/money laundering scheme.
During an MSNBC interview on Tuesday morning, Democrat Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear criticized Senator J.D. Vance’s stance on abortion laws, particularly those involving pregnancies resulting from rape, stating, “Make him go through this.”
Some lives are not worth protecting. Vance should ask Beshear if it would be okay to kill cripples and mental defectives.
Sounds like a trap.

Clear eyed assessment
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate Nicole Shanahan said the Kennedy campaign is considering dropping out of the race and endorsing former President Donald Trump while framing the choice through her hope of reducing “the risk” of Vice President Kamala Harris becoming president.
In an interview with podcast host Tom Bilyeu posted on Tuesday, Shanahan acknowledged the Kennedy campaign’s recent conversations with the Trump campaign, which have centered on the possibility of Kennedy endorsing Trump in exchange for a role in Trump’s administration should he win. She framed the decision on whether to endorse Trump around its impact on Harris’ chances of victory in November, arguing Kennedy pulls more votes from Trump than from Harris.
“There’s two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris — Kamala Harris and (Tim) Walz presidency. Because we draw votes from Trump, or we draw somehow more votes from Trump,” she said. “Or we walk away right now and join forces with — with Donald Trump.”
——-
“The question is … is the risk of a Harris-Walz presidency worth us staying in? And that’s the question we have to ask ourselves right now,” she said.
That’ll ruffle some feathers.
Well good…about time.
I am pretty sure that yesterday some DNC shills on X were saying he was in meetings with the Harris campaign to endorse her for a cabinet position.
Just in time,
“I like him, and I respect him,” Trump told CNN’s Kristen Holmes in an interview after a campaign stop in Michigan.
“He’s a brilliant guy. He’s a very smart guy. I’ve known him for a very long time,” the Republican presidential nominee said. “I didn’t know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, certainly I’d be open to it.” …

Charter School Chronicles
I showed Stossel videos today to my critical thinking classes: one on recycling and 2 on electric cars. They were well-received. Tomorrow for the sake of balance, I’ll show some Robert Reich and PBS videos.
A student came to me and said she planned on writing about abortion for her controversial topic essay. I told her I look forward to reading it, and her grade will not depend on whether I agree with her stance or not.
Other topics that have been picked: Cloning, AI, and Nuclear Power. A student asked me if they would need to present their paper to the class. I told her no, there will be no public speaking as there is another class for that.
I surprised today to learn that teachers are among the Americans most likely to millionaires. The average teacher salary is $66k, and when you consider they only work 3/4 of the year, that’s the equivalent of $88k. Pretty good for 4-year degree, often in the easiest major. The rest of the top 5 are engineer, accountant, manager, and I think lawyer.
was surprised, be millionaires
me ryt gud
Lots of teachers, often highly paid in low cost areas. Good benefits including pensions.
Between 401k and house value and inflation, not as hard to be a millionaire these days.

OPINION: As a Black middle-school student, I was tracked into lower-level math classes that kept me back
***
By the age of 11, I could read a floor plan and calculate the length of a diagonal roofline using the Pythagorean theorem.
***
Meh, though that’s probably more than her friends could do at that age.
***
Like many Black students, I faced challenges throughout my academic journey, with math tracking being the primary one. Despite high math scores in earlier grades and a passion for the subject, I was placed into lower-level math courses in middle school.
***
Most students get good math grades in elementary school because it’s easy.
It wasn’t the squirrels; it was the NSA.
You joke, yet that thought is in the back of my mind.
***
The tracked classes did, however, improve my social skills and popularity. Through regular exchanges of humorous insults with fellow classmates on various topics — such as who was the least intelligent or most economically disadvantaged — I developed a well-curated arsenal of diss material.
The joke-telling also became a great defense mechanism against the stigma of having been placed in lower-level classes. So instead of practicing math during study hall, I worked on refining my repertoire of jokes. I didn’t learn much math, but I did learn how to be funny.

Perhaps if she studied in study hall (imagine that), she could have convinced teachers/admin to put her the class she wanted. Easier to be a crab in a bucket, I guess.

Deplorable stronghold
The Harris campaign attacked former President Trump for campaigning Tuesday in Howell, Mich., a city with historic ties to the Ku Klux Klan and that was the setting of a white supremacist demonstration last month, where attendees expressed support for the former president.
The Harris campaign’s Michigan communications director, Alyssa Bradley, criticized the former president for “choosing to rally in a town that was historically known as ‘the KKK capital of Michigan.’”
“This [Tuesday] event on ‘crime and safety’ isn’t a dog whistle from Trump — it’s a bullhorn,” Bradley said in a statement Monday.
“His visit underscores the core choice in this election — between a prosecutor and a criminal, someone who has spent her life making communities safer and someone who encourages violence, and someone who will build a future where all Michiganders can get ahead and someone who wants to take us back to the days of the KKK,” Bradley later added.
The town has long been associated with the klan, in large part as a result of meetings that Robert Miles, a former Michigan Grand Dragon of the klan, held at his nearby farm many decades ago. The city has worked to distance itself from that reputation, but it occasionally faces obstacles.
