¿Martes por la tarde? No. ¡Por quien votamos!

by | Nov 5, 2024 | Open Post | 323 comments

Nobody cares what happened in Mexico today. So here is who we voted for and why:

Sloopyinca: “I voted for the guy who has a vendetta against the government. The man who wants to destroy it out of spite. He represents how I feel, and even if our chosen methods differ, I think he might just pull it off to stick it up the peoples’ asses who most deserve it.

And also to hopefully take some money, in addition to Spudalicious, away from OMWC…”

Playa Manhattan:   “I’m not voting.   I don’t vote for losers, and they’re both losers.”

Winston’s Mom: “Fuck you, fuck all of you fucking communist shit eating fucktards. Go vote for Harris and shove a fucking food processor up your fucking ass and see if it fucking blends.”

Sugarfree: “I didn’t vote. I’m a felon.”

Swiss Servator: “I am in Illinois…” *laughs bitterly*

db: “For US President, I voted for Trump, primarily because I think he’s the best hope the US has of avoiding direct involvement in World War III.  As the recent father of two wonderful children, I hold their safety at a premium and would like to see the USA return to its prior status as Sleeping Giant, rather than its current degraded state.

Also, a Harris administration would be an absolute disaster in terms of Supreme Court appointees and probably packing, continued empowerment of the Deep State, and a monstrous national debt.

For more local and state elections, I pretty much stuck with ‘throw the bums out.’  I only voted for Libertarian candidates for Statewide or local office, because I think the LP wastes its time and money and effort on national races.

mexican sharpshooter: “I don’t care. I might finally get to shoot someone.”

Spudalicious: “I was raised in a middle class family in a neighborhood where everybody cared about how their lawn looked. Because of that experience, I felt the need to vote for someone who reflects my values, my traditions. My Truth. So therefore, I cast my vote accordingly, unburdened from what has been and am comfortable that I have done what is best for me and my middle class upbringing.”

JW:  “Don’t vote.  It only encourages them.

Nephilium: “My vote has been suppressed for several years now since they moved the polling place from a school on the same block as me to one that’s 2 miles away.  There are 15 judges running unopposed, who would not be getting my vote regardless.  If I do drag my ass to the polls to vote today, it will be purely to vote against Issue 1 (“anti-gerrymandering” aka gerrymandering we like!), the charter amendments proposed to “streamline city council meetings in emergencies” (Fuck you.  Cut Spending.), and to vote against making cigarette smokers pay for “public art” (by raising the tax from $0.015 to $0.035 per cigarette).”

Brett L: “ I voted for Congressional Gun/Bikini model Anna Paulina Luna. You can all thank me for the cheesecake. And wrote in Buzz Aldrin for President, because if we have to be ruled by a gerontocracy, I want the cool old people to rule me.”

Old Man with Candy: “I live in NY, so really, who the fuck cares?’

Gojira: “GHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The polls may be queued up for the foreseeable future, the fix might already be in, by particularly powerful interests that like to hint their intentions out in the open, but in the immediate interests of everyone here:

Bless you for the gif. It was needed today.

    • Rat on a train

I would have voted for it.

      • The Other Kevin

Alternately, a hot woman slapping an “I Voted” sticker on another hot woman’s ass would have been accepted.

    • mexican sharpshooter

I’d use it everyday, but then it would loose its novelty

  2. KK, Plump & Unfiltered

I know a couple of these names. The rest are shrouded in the mists of TOS.

    • Tonio

      Nice avatar!

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

        I was being facetious 😉

And look who graced us with a comment!!

      • Raven Nation

*taps sarc meter* Ahh, needs to be calibrated.

    • Playa Manhattan

Nobody has the Cal score anymore.

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

        Cal has zero SEC wins!

        (Hi!)

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Rooting for Cal is akin to voting for losers.

(many, many family members were there…/1000 yard stare from the faculty club)

Hi! Going to Park City for Thanksgiving!

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

        Awwww sheeeit!

(I just booked a cruise around Iceland for the total solar eclipse in 2026, so not that jealous)

      • Playa Manhattan

Speculative shoulder season booking; I didn’t know the mountain would be open for skiing when I booked.

Eclipse should be awesome; I pulled my youngest out of school to go see it in Texas. Once in a lifetime, IMO.

I expect brazen cheating on the left resulting in civil conflict in the not too distant future.

    I hope to be wrong.

    • The Other Kevin

The 3am ballot dump/water pipe crap isn’t going to work this time. There are too many people on to it. But they’ll try something.

      • Suthenboy

They are doing it right now. Bomb threats from Roosha and gas leaks already.

    • juris imprudent

So you are in the same camp as MS.

I wrote in Thomas Massie for president.

    • mexican sharpshooter

I think they sentence Trump in NY. That’s their only card left aside from the usual complaining when they count EC votes.

  4. cavalier973

I voted Trump, because, as an American, I understand there are at the very, very least, three things that we are supposed to have without question:

    The right to vote

    Freedom of Speech

    Presumption of Innocence.

When a judge in NY threw out that last one in order to “get Trump”, I was so incensed that I changed from “I ain’t voting” to “I’m voting for Trump, no matter what.”

    • KSuellington

For me it was the mugshot. The day they got that I predicted he would win. And as it pissed me off massively, I also moved over to the vote for Trump camp. I wanted DeSantis before that as he was really the only one to stand up against the Vid bullshit aside from the Dakota dog lady.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Me too, for about the same reasons. Albeit with being a 1st amendment absolutist, the admission in Missouri v Biden pushed me all the way over the top.

    • juris imprudent

I just couldn’t give Trump my vote, so I gave him my wife’s vote (since she always asks who she wants me to vote for).

    • Grumbletarian

For me it was “Trump intentionally mislabeled payments to his lawyer in order to win an election he’d already won”.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I voted Trump as well. For 2 very specific reasons.

Since my voice otherwise counts for not much and can be censored at any moment anyways, I chose to exercise my vote as a proxy for “Fuck wokeness” in all of its forms. My hope is that, rather than not vote as per usual in a state that is deep red so who cares, my vote can help push Trump over the edge in the fake national popular vote tally that means nothing, yet simultaneously represents the overall needle of where we are as a country. A popular vote for Trump would be a sign that America has had enough woke bullshit. Enough of Obama-era policy with mere puppets in the places of power. It would be a sign of hope.

    Flaunt it

Ferrari said on Tuesday its core earnings rose 7% in the third quarter, despite a slight decrease in car shipments, as the luxury sports car maker continued to benefit from a richer product offer and increased demand for personalization.

Milan-listed shares in the company, however, extended losses after the results were published, as Ferrari did not upgrade the forecasts for its full-year results it provided in August, including for adjusted EBITDA growing to at least 2.5 billion euros ($2.7 billion).

Its shares were down 3.3%. The shares have risen by more than 40% this year.

Supercars do not turn me on, but they obviously have n eager and loyal customer base.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

I always wanted a Fiat Dino. Mostly because I like build quality greater than Hondas.

  7. The Other Kevin

I have a lot of skin in the game this election.

I have a new business, and under normal circumstances, that’s a financial strain. But prices rising 30% and interest rates going up have pushed our finances to the edge.

I have a new son-in-law who’s on an aircraft carrier, and I’d like for my kid to not be a widow because Liz Cheney feels like starting a new war.

I value free speech, and one party is hell bent on tearing up the 1st amendment.

As an added bonus, the very few people in politics I have respect for have somehow lined up in a way I would never have expected in my wildest dreams.

    • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

The part about your daughter & SIL is way better than the “I want my daughters to be able to abort freely” argument

    • juris imprudent

one party is hell bent on tearing up the 1st amendment

This is where I join MS‘s side – fuckers are going to end up making me shoot someone.

    • SDF-7

Yeah, if I were at all on the fence — promising to kill X because Elon went off the “Thou Shalt Let Us Censor” reservation and looking to bring the EU’s version of “misinformation” would be enough by itself. Adding in that my son will be draftable by the end of the next administration, that I still have not forgiven the fuckers they approve of for the “jab or lose your job!” stress (I didn’t do either in the end… but it wasn’t a fun time as I’m sure everyone here remembers) — from the party of “body autonomy” no less (only so you can serve Moloch!) and the small, small chance that maybe someone will approach a balanced budget (small for OMB, impossible for Kamala) would all be more than enough.

I’m the anti-JI, though — my wife on a purely personal level (I think it was the “grab ’em line”, frankly) loathes Trump and could not vote for him regardless of policy positions. I ended up getting her to vote for Chase Oliver for lack of anything better at least.

      • rhywun

it wasn’t a fun time as I’m sure everyone here remembers

Yes, it was an extremely anxious time now that I reluctantly remember it.

Trump got duped by Birx and Fauci but he wised up a little towards the end.
Biden and Harris are authoritarian shits who enjoyed every minute of that.

      • juris imprudent

        I’m the anti-JI

Actually the current spouse cancels out the ex-spouse, so I’m net-zero.

  8. Shpip

The way things should be, or merely pseudoscientific wishful thinking?

    • Tonio

I’m not sure if it’s true-true, but it is interesting. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about manufactured consensus and groupthink. Time to start seeking out research on it. But the research is not always trustworthy.

And certainly not all women are defenseless and incapable of rationality. Look at the female Glibs!

      • juris imprudent

I hate human social hierarchy. If we’re no better than low animals in terms of social behavior than would some alien species please wipe us from existence. That said, the simple and inescapable truth is that there is a distinction between those that lead and those that follow, and the latter are far more numerous than the former. None of that requires rationality in the slightest and has no particular gender bias.

  9. NoDakMat

So, Jim Cramer analyzed the market movements and declared that the market is predicting Kammy will win. Doesn’t that pretty much guarantee that Trump will win?

    • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

I do know the Trump fans were pretty excited about it

    • mexican sharpshooter

Correct, that is the “reverse Cramer” meme.

      • NoDakMat

Ohhh…. I thought the Reverse Cramer was when you laid down on your side and let your wife stick…

        Nevermind.

  11. Aloysious

Thanks for the morale lifting pics, MS. Appreciated.

And a happy Erection Day. Just because we all might get the shaft, doesn’t mean we should get all stiff.

  12. Drake

Did Bret Baier call Arizona yet?

    • SDF-7

There’s a thought — we’re all expecting Pennsylvania and Arizona to drag on… but we know they have the results ready to go — they showed them last week during the Mexican Grand Prix!

  13. The Late P Brooks

Traders, Cramer said, are looking to get ahead of election results, and they’re looking for signs that someone knows something that others don’t. He suggested that some on Wall Street foresee a Harris victory because of a surprising new poll released this weekend that showed Harris ahead in Iowa, a traditionally red state that seemed like a shoo-in for former President Donald Trump, who won the state during the past two elections. The poll showed Harris leading Trump 47% to 44%, and Cramer said it has led investors to question whether other red states could turn blue.

Or it’s total bullshit intended to dupe the credulous idiots.

    • Brochettaward

Trump won Idaho by like 10 points or some shit. I’m too lazy to look it up.

      • Spudalicious

He took Idaho by 29 points.

      • Not Adahn

        Idaho, Iowa, what’s the difference?

    • rhywun

      It’s utterly ridiculous.

Wall Street is not rooting for the fucking socialist.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Don’t sweat it, Kramer’s a tard…damn near as stupid as Krugman.

      • juris imprudent

        Kramer, Krugman, Kamala – hmmm.

  14. cavalier973

Real clear politics is forecasting that Trump will win with 287 votes.

    https://www.realclearpolling.com/maps/president/2024/no-toss-up/electoral-college

According to Rich Baris, though, PA, WI, and MI all vote the same way, while RCP has Trump winning PA and Harris winning WI and MI.

If Baris is right, then Harris will take PA along with the other two, and win with 270, or Trump takes WI and MI and wins with 312.

    • UnCivilServant

Dems cheat to win PA, Wi, MI, but NY flips to Trump.

      • juris imprudent

269-269 and goes to the House – the only result I would truly love since those who hate the Constitution will try to overthrow it.

    Pulling ahead from the deadthread

“The cousin and I replaced the media in our water softener”

I need to learn this, also why did you do it?

It’s really easy. Once you have the right tool to take the controller off the tank, the media just pours out. You can buy funnels for pouring the new media in. There are some websites where you can buy all the equipment and media for relatively cheap. I installed a softener and iron filter in an old house, and it was an afternoon project.

The media does eventually get clogged despite getting flushed regularly. I forget the lifespan on the media, but 10-20 years seems right.

    • R.J.

“ The media does eventually get clogged despite getting flushed regularly. I forget the lifespan on the media, but 10-20 years seems right.”

This, out of context, is still true.

      • juris imprudent

Some media needs to be flushed much more often.

    • The Other Kevin

Missed that on the other thread! I have EXTREMELY rusty water, so after about 5 years the water tasted like iron even after several cycles. I bought the media and the special funnel for about $250 on Amazon. We watched a few videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r-wS5G3AUs

Surprisingly, the softener just snaps into the water lines with clips. So the job was pretty easy, took us about 45 minutes. Last time we paid someone to do it for about $1000 and they took the softener away for a few days. These days I’d expect it to cost a lot more than that.

      • Tundra

Do you run a pre-filter? Our lake place had ridiculous well water. The pre filter made a yuuuuuuge difference.

      • The Other Kevin

Yes, we have a pre-filter right before the softener.

      • trshmnstr

I used to run an iron filter before the pre-filter when we were in VA. That was the only way to get the pre-filter to last longer than a week. The water was still slightly pink if you drew a bath.

      • Tundra

Yes, trashy. That’s what I meant. A basic pre-filter wouldn’t last two weeks.

  18. J. Frank Parnell

I discovered today that there are two different Senate elections on the ballot in California, one “special election” to fill the seat until January, then a regular election for the full term. Which means I got to vote against Adam Schiff twice in one sitting. So I got that going for me.

    • SDF-7

What’s absolutely fucking depressing is that with the magic (D) that lying shitweasel (and yes, I know the Senate is full of him… but he’s a whole other level of lying shitweasel) is probably going to win anyway.

    • KSuellington

Schiffweasel will, very unfortunately, be Senator for life once he wins easily today.

      • Gustave Lytton

His pimple head will grow bigger and bigger until one day it finally pops.

      • rhywun

It is amazing. That guy is literally one of the most abominable human beings in American politics and that is saying something.

        Do better, California.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I just think it’s funny that one of y’all’s senators will be a guy who looks like a Roger Rabbit character that just realized he’s about to get hit by a train.

      • B.P.

Schiff looks like the guidance counselor from South Park.

      • juris imprudent

about to get hit by a train

Don’t get my hopes up like that.

  19. Raven Nation

Haha – Republican Accountability PAC just texted me to let me know that millions of Republicans were going to the polls to vote for a Democrat – tomorrow.

    • db

      Interesting for sure.

  20. Pine_Tree

I voted for Trump. Was lukewarm for all the obvious reasons till the NY indictments, then went over.

Still too populist for me on some things (e.g. flag burning), but everything else he’s been saying lately, and the crowd around him (Vivek, Elon, etc.) are all pretty much saying the right things.

More concrete reasons: an invading army has poured over the border and he’s the only one who acts like he cares; son with 2 more years on his enlistment who’s already watched Iranian ballistic missiles fly over his head, and been deployed to somewhere else the Army won’t admit being; at least a verbal hint towards abolishing the income tax.

  21. SDF-7

When did the Minnesota Supreme Court get lobotomies? If a private car on a public road becomes a public space — why would the US Supreme Court have bothered with all the “you can’t search without a warrant or a trained warrant-free search dog drug dog, but you can’t prolong the stop to get one” stuff? The whole argument is stupid on its face.

    • SDF-7

Correction — MN Court of Appeals, sorry… misread that. The rest stands.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

There sorely needs to be some kind of punitive higher court review of judges that make such obviously stupid decisions.

  22. tarran

Wrote my first pro python script (i.e. to solve a work problem). I invested three hours on writing and testing it. It has saved me 45 hours of manually editing files plus whatever hours it would have taken to find and fix the inevitable mistakes I would have made.

    This was a good day.

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

…saved me 45 hours of manually editing files…

Take the rest of the week off!

    • Brett L

Never. Tell. Your coworkers. Ever. Or all of that time that you saved will be stolen from you by people who want you to magic their stuff. Never tell coworkers that you can write scripts, reports, or dashboards, lest that become your unofficial official job.

      • R.J.

        This is correct.

      • Sensei

        Sad, but true.

      • UnCivilServant

Automation is my official official job.

      • R.J.

        We should talk then.

      • rhywun

Yeah, that stuff is my official job too.

Plus I enjoy it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But I get it if that’s not your official job – I had a go-to guy for Excel wizardry who probably got sick of my shit over the years.

      • trshmnstr

I escaped from that fate by having a coworker go all in on the automation stuff. He sucks at it, but he knows all the buzzwords, and that gets management swampy in their no no areas. As a result, i occasionally get called in to do mission critical stuff, but he gets 95% of the random requests.

    • SarumanTheGreat

I dunno. Keeping innovations guild secrets or family secrets means valuable inventions like Greek Fire get lost.

      Oh, wait . . .

  23. Stinky Wizzleteats

Do you have a gif with Congresswoman Luna and, oh I don’t know, AOC maybe?

    • OBJ FRANKELSON

Bad stinky! You will recall Article I, Section 3* of the Glib Charter and its prohibition regarding the putting it in the crazy?

*Section 1 is “Fuck you cut spending”, Section 2, is “No girls allowed”

    • Rebel Scum

      Luna and Boebert, perhaps?

Though with the corrupt apple tree “disability fraud” is on the table.

I wonder if the staties issue SIG P320s?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

More likely he has Glock leg.

  24. Tundra

I’m not cool enough to not vote. I like Trump’s team – in their lanes. RFK is a joke on energy but a fucking hero on pharma. Elon is fucked if he loses, so skin in the game (like TOK). Vivek and JD have business cred. Tulsi knows what’s up.

War, energy, food, health and business are my things. I think it’s pretty clear that one team will provide less pain for me. I think the will not comply shit was a lot more fun 30 years ago.

    • Brochettaward

Do you think Trump is going to get any of those people into his administration?

Last time around, the moron relied on McConnell’s recommendations to staff his White House and fill his cabinet spots. Even for judges. The same McConnell who would say after Jan 6th that we finally got the son-of-a-bitch.

Trump, meanwhile, is kind of a dirt bag.

Do I want him to win, given my options? Yes. Do I trust him to actually perform, rather than slightly delay the inevitable decline of the country? No.

      • The Other Kevin

Tulsi and Kennedy are on the transition team, so… maybe?

      • trshmnstr

Do I trust him to actually perform, rather than slightly delay the inevitable decline of the country?

I have young kids and a new homestead. I’ll take every year I can get.

      • Tundra

“Do you think Trump is going to get any of those people into his administration?”

        No clue.

Back in the olden days, I voted for Jessie the Body for governor of Minnesota. It was a monster upset. Definitely a mini-me Trump. He fucked up a lot of stuff, but to this day Minne doesn’t have those retarded emissions inspections and it took years for the commies to jack up the car registration rates again.

I’ve said it many times, a speed bump and loose lug nuts is good enough for now.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

He was a babe in the woods and was too innocent the first time. Dealing with the mobbed up high dollar real estate business in New York City didn’t come close to preparing him to deal with the political shitbags. But seriously, I don’t expect a whole lot but maybe he learned a lesson from that and it’s at least nice to have someone in the presidency that doesn’t hate me.

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

He addressed that directly in his Rogan interview – he let assholes and swamp creatures decide his nominations for him. I doubt he makes that mistake again.

I wonder who will head up my agency (if anyone – we could very well be at the top of Elon’s shit list. We’re 100% at the top of Rand Paul’s shit list. Which is fine with me.)

      • rhywun

Back in the olden days, I voted for Jessie the Body for governor of Minnesota.

I remember rooting for Schwarzeneggar. Talk about disappointments.

And he just endorsed the socialist. Asshole.

      • Spudalicious

The last time around, he didn’t know anybody in Washington. He’s admitted several times that the people he chose were his biggest mistake and that it wouldn’t happen again.

      • Rebel Scum

He likely learned several lessons. Hopefully. The current team around him suggests he has.

      • juris imprudent

        He likely learned several lessons.

How many marriages? How many bankruptcies?

The one thing I definitely learned about him – he has no spine. He’ll get talked out of stuff that he was right about when he went with his gut instinct.

  25. cavalier973

Joe Biden has declined to attend Kamal’s watch party tonight

        Wow

They had to print new ballots for these counties.

But only enough for 60% of precinct?

And they have tens or hundreds of thousands of ballots that cannot be scanned in locked ballots boxes. Will have to be hand counted.

Only in super red Trump areas.

I am going to Vail in mid-Dec, first time skiing in about 30 years. All my previous skiing was in Indiana. Any recommendations?

      • B.P.

The mountain will probably only be about half open, since it’s early season; although Copper Mtn. (which isn’t too far away) got two feet the other day. Get to the back bowls if they are open, as it’s quite beautiful.

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

I would say maybe take a 1/2 day group lesson. I had a long gap in my skiing, though (I’d say 15ish years) and it was definitely like riding a bike.

I’d also say opt for shorter skis than you used to use to make turning easier. Don’t let the rental people and lifties laugh at you for your stumpy skis, either 😂 (they always laugh at my 135s)

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

        robc” “I haven’t skiied in 30 years”

sensible people: “take a short group lesson and use slightly shorter skis”

weirdos & freaks: “strap on the 210s and hit the back bowls, duuuude!”

      • B.P.

This weirdo will have you know that some areas of the back bowls are very well groomed and not steep.

      • robc

I am doing a 1/2 day lesson first morning.

I replied to a “Get out the vote Text”-

“Voting only encourages the assholes and gives credence to an illegitimate system. I don’t recognize the fuckwits in Washington or Columbus or Mansfield’s authority to tell me how to live, and I refuse to partake in their bullshit rituals.”

Surprisingly I got a follow up text telling me they were sorry I felt that way and hoped I would reconsider.

    • Sean

About what? I’ve been one of the few positive one around here for the last few months.

    • The Hyperbole

  39. Shpip

Think you’re blackpilled? Either I don’t have anything on this guy, or he’s saying pretty much what I think, only better.

So we have what looks a lot like end-stage political degradation, end-stage fiscal crisis, end-stage military decline, end-stage sexual degeneracy and the growing loss of family, and end-stage cultural enervation. The President of the United States is significantly and quite obviously dumber than the average wage laborer, and movie stars are shabby and unappealing.

  40. Muzzled Woodchipper

There’s one aspect I was very highly unsatisfied with after having voted today.

The polls were easy. Perhaps a 20 minute wait. I check in with my ID and get my ballot.

I fill out my ballot without issue and bring it to the machine. I slide it in the machine, and the machine says. “Congrats! Your vote has been counted.” And my only thought was, “Has it?” They did not ask me to confirm what they read on the ballot. I really would have appreciated that being that I don’t trust the system at all.

    • Fourscore

Amazon asks if you are ready to commit your money before you hit send

  41. UnCivilServant

Okay, I am trying to figure out why the computer I have isn’t displaying anything on the screen.

I have verified the compatability of the CPU and RAM. Verified that these are seated properly. I hvae verified that the power cables inside have been seated properly.

The Keyboard’s NumLock light lights up and the NumLock key toggles it.

    The Mouse’s sensor lights up.

No video output displays a post message nor is there evidence that it tries to boot.

    • Sensei

Run just one stick of memory and see if it POSTs.

      • UnCivilServant

That’s what I’m currently doing. I have three just stacked beside me. I verified in the manual that the slot I’m using is the one for a solo DIMM

      • UnCivilServant

Another detail – a Ctrl-Alt-Del will lead to behavior that implies a reboot.

The router does not see the ethernet line on the network, so it hasn’t tried to connect yet

      • Sensei

Does it have built in video?

You can mess around with using it and/or disabling it and using a card.

      • UnCivilServant

This is with the built-in video, I haven’t gone looking for a video card to shove in there.

      • Sensei

See if you can play with the memory setting for the built in GPU using just the one stick.

Maybe set it for minimum size.

Just a shot in the dark, however.

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not finding any jumpers or dip switches in the manual. Nothing to fiddle with any settings until I can get it to POST.

      • Sensei

        It’s in the bios.

Also with one stick, boot into bios and load and save factory defaults.

You can also update to the latest bios, but that’s another shot in the dark.

      • UnCivilServant

I Am Not Getting the BIOS. I am not getting anything on the screen.

I have already started getting the latest BIOS from the manufacturer. To see if that does anything. There’s a way to flash it without booting.

      • Sensei

Yeah, I meant get to bios with the one stick so it boots.

    • Nephilium

Are you getting any beep codes from the motherboard?

      • UnCivilServant

        no, it’s not beeping.

      • Nephilium

        UCS:

Try unhooking the keyboard/HDD and see if you get the appropriate beep codes. Just to confirm that the machine is getting through the POST (assuming I read the last line correctly and the monitor is not getting video at all).

      • UnCivilServant

My most recent boot was: CPU, one DIMM, VGA monitor, – no Drives, no PCIe, No network, no USB – No post or beep.

I’m starting to wonder if I have either a bum CPU or a bum MB

    • SDF-7

No q codes or diagnostic leds? I thought most boards these days had something to give you an idea of how the post is going. Check your manual under troubleshooting.

Barring that, I’d try it with the limited setup you’re doing outside of the case to be sure you haven’t got something shorting out the board (seems unlikely if you’re getting numlock — but worth a thought).

And just because I did something stupid once (spoiler for the being written NAS article), are you sure your cpu supports onboard graphics? If you have a known working basic discrete card, may well be worth putting that in just to check.

    • Sensei

AMD segmented their performance and integrated graphics stuff.

On Ryzen 7 and 9 they finally put a small GPU on their performance lines.

Their naming sucks. Easy to get confused.

      • UnCivilServant

I could have gotten a really cheap video card but I spent $80 on one that will be here tomorrow.

Maybe then I can finally get this thing to boot.

  42. Suthenboy

I would say how and why I voted but I would just be repeating Sloopy word for word.

As for what Shpip says above – demoralization.
We have lost sight of our foundational principles. Inalienable rights and strict limits on power.
Concentrated power draws the worst kinds of people like shit draws flies. Little by little to ‘get things done’ we have allowed the political class to amass and concentrate more and more power. Total power corrupts totally, or so I am told.
We have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed ( by we I mean a large portion of the population, obviously not all of us) into thinking that individuals serve institutions instead of the other way about. We have reverted to the primitive pre-enlightenment mentality of collectivist cultures losing the very thing that made us different from everyone else in the world.

The wolf is at the door and he is fucking hungry. Are we going to let him in?
I am not so pessimistic as to think we are past saving. I think that sleeping giant is still out there despite what happened during covid. Perhaps we just haven’t reached the point of waking that giant up yet?

    • Suthenboy

I forgot to add “the primitive pre-enlightenment mentality of collectivist cultures” is exactly why the borders are open – to import as many of those people as possible and give them the vote.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

If we have enough people to vote Kamala Fucking Harris into office, we’re fucking doomed.

How did we become a people where a large enough portion truly believe that Trump is going to send people off to camps? I mean, fucking seriously? These people are dead fucking dumb.

      • rhywun

Fox is stating that 70% of the country says we are “moving in the wrong direction”.

Reagan won 44 states on that kind of momentum. Of course, we had American hostages held in hostile territory at the time.

        Oh….

      • DenverJ

My extended term fiance is a very smart person, maybe even smarter than me (!), but she believes every single bit of it. 44. Fourscore

I went shopping at Walmart today. Figured it would be a slow day with the election and all. I figured everyone would be out voting. My, my, what a surprise! The place was full of Old People. WTF? I started looking for “The Sticker”.

I did not see one, not any! I couldn’t understand that. I finally decided that all or most of those shoppers had voted early or mail. Being old they didn’t want to get caught in the crush at the polling places.

Mrs F had to vote, against Kamala. I sat patiently in the car. There were a lot of people ahead of her, she said all of them appeared to know her though she only recognized a couple of the locals. I’ll be interested in seeing how red this rural township is, the results will be published in a couple days.

  45. Mojeaux

Yeah, so I made the effort to leave my house for the first time in 3 weeks and I wouldn’t have done it today, either, but there were down-ticket and amendments needing voted upon.

I held my nose through most of it, voted NO on all the judges just to be contrary, voted L in one race because I hate the R incumbent so much, and then met up with one of the state senatorial candidates out in the parking lot and had a lovely chat with him for a while.

I did not get a sucker, like at the bank.

    • Mojeaux

There were no people in line before me. I went about 2:15ish or so.

I still don’t know what is appropriate attire for a civil war after Labor Day.

Also, the refs helped the Chiefs win again last night, so I’m all caught up on circuses. Today’s panem of choice is sourdough.

      • rhywun

I was torn between not having anything in particular against KC and wanting someone to fucking beat them already. Someone other than TB, though. Oh well.

  48. Ed Wuncler

I voted for Trump/Vance just because I want to push those popular votes numbers up. In Ohio, I voted no on the Democrats and Progressive attempted gerrymandering power grab. And I voted for the Libertarian Senate candidate and not Bernie Moreno.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I guess I just can’t understand why this election is close at all. Our economy is in the shitter, our social fabric has been irreparably torn, and the large cog in the machine who brought us our present state currently running for Team Machine is absolutely fucking brain dead.

What the fuck. I can’t imagine how badly Trump would wipe the floor with Kamala if she didn’t have every large establishment in her corner. TMITE, academia, the entire entertainment complex, and a whole lot more are all in the bag for Kamala The Installed, using every trick in the bag to get her in. If that wasn’t there it would be a landslide for Trump.

      • Ed Wuncler

For better or worse, Trump seems to be perceived as carrying a lot of baggage and he also turned the political world on it’s head which is unforgivable to many people. I think one of the major issues with Trump I’ve had is that he seems a tad bit undisciplined and does too much shooting from the hip. I don’t think he’s stupid or evil as the media has made him out to be but he’s obviously a very petty man who seems to always demand loyalty.

Saying that though, at the very least he would slow down our dive into authoritarianism and would provide me with the liberal tears that keeps me young.

      • kinnath

It isn’t close. The cheating will be brazen and obvious.

      • robodruid

        Trump is way to vain.
But Harris is a depression/WW III candidate.

      • Rebel Scum

        Kinnath with the positive vibes.

That said, part of me agrees.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

With Trump you get the good with the bad Ed but shooting from the hip is largely what built his political persona and without that he would have been crushed long ago. That being said, because of that he’s a polarizing figure and plenty of people just vote against him, him as a person, regardless of what his policies are or aren’t.

      • The Bearded Hobbit

I’m with Muzzled. The last four years have been a train wreck and all the D’s can come up with is her? Even without the Biden baggage she is still, hands down, the worst candidate in my lifetime.

And they’re tied. I guess people really do hate Trump that much.

      • kinnath

So positive that I am checking ammo prices again. 😉

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I mean, how does anyone look at life 5 years ago and life today, and think that more of the status quo is better than when a grocery trip didn’t cost 400 fucking dollars.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

The Dems actually have a great running slogan, “We aren’t going back.” Which, if they had played their cards right would be a winner.

A lot of people don’t like Trump. And people generally don’t want a lot of social conservatism, which, rightly or wrongly, is tied to him. Yes, the economy is in the shitter, but, again, that isn’t the most important thing for a lot of people. Abortion is though. And while Kamalama is a ding dong, and believe me, no one is fooled by any messaging about her, it is still a major, major issue. They don’t care that it has only gone to the states, they feel it should be a constitutional amendment.

And, again, a lot of people don’t like Trump. Doesn’t matter the reason, they just don’t.

    • Ed Wuncler

SW: That’s what I like about him too and I think that’s part of his success, but there are definitely times when I wished he would rein it in just a little. An example was when Massie tried to stall the voting of the COVID package and Trump went on a mini tantrum and said that Massie should be primaried or something to that affect. It’s like dude, shut up and listen to actually why Massie is opposing the package.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, the antiMassie tantrum was not his finest moment.

In today’s market that would be the “see how long it takes to assassinate me” ticket.

        Strict constitutionalist.

        9th and 10th intact.

        Enumerated powers.

        Zero line budgetting every year.

I’d say instant assassination. My administration would make Argentina blush.

        Afuera!

Forgot to mention…Clearly I voted for OMB and the Hillbilly, the Chinaman* (ok, ok he’s Vietnamese…) and some no name that has no chance in my House district.

*He was Cao-ing down on the polling gap recently, but Kaine the Kunte is probably too entrenched to be unseated.

Indiana has been called, again decisively for Trump. Interestingly, Harris led Marion County/ Indianapolis by only .4%, a bit ago. She will obviously win Bloomington/ Monroe County, and maybe just eek out South Bend/Indy. Bro and SiL will be SO devastated! They’re all in on abortion, natch, along every many other Blue thing. Cuz. I saw 10(?) States are having votes to allow abortion to their state constitutions. That would deflate SO much if they all passed.

I sadly can’t point out that Ginsberg would be proud. I’m sure she woulda sided w Roe/Wade, but thought it was a terrible decision. Should be based on equality, not privacy, in her opinion (IIRC). Somehow, they’ll be even MORE sad about that. “STUPID STATES’LL CHANGE THEIR MINDS!@!#!!!

I also voted Yes on Amenedments 1 and 2.

Amendment 1 was to lock out non-citizens from voting. How this hasn’t been done already baffles me, or perhaps it was never a problem until more recently when we opened the gates.

Amendment 2 would authorize the legislature to make laws apportioning school funds to non-public schools. It’s the opening move towards school choice in KY.

AP is reporting that the elephants have picked up one Senate seat already.

    • UnCivilServant

Which one? (please say New York)

      • UnCivilServant

Oh, it’s West Virginia. That was a given.

      • kinnath

They’ve called Indiana and W Virginia. I don’t know which is a pick up.

      • UnCivilServant

Manchin in West Virginia was a (D) until very very recently when he went (I) then retired. He stayed in by being at the rightmost edge of the party and a familiar name.

    I don’t think I can decide.

Gosh I just love them both so much.

All seems well here. Contact your local Fed observer for assistance.

After careful consideration, I’ve made a decision.

    Kellyanne Conway?

    Would.

    • R.J.

I respect your decision. She is a bit too much like beef jerky for me. Needs to go eat some hamburgers.

      • DenverJ

Yeah, gain 20 pounds, and stop tanning.

      • Common Tater

She’s on Fox now, and doesn’t look at all tan.

“Needs to go eat some hamburgers.”

I like to think she burns off those calories being frisky in the sack.

  59. Common Tater

Looks like legal recreational didn’t get enough votes in Florida.

    • DenverJ

Yeah the olds still think pot is a drug 🙄

      • R.J.

Floridaman drinks Slurpees with fentanyl, they don’t need so steenking pot!

      • R.J.

no. No! Not “so,” dammit! I can’t blame autocorrect either. I’ve just been drinking rye whiskey.

      • DenverJ

The way reading works, if you hadn’t pointed it out, I’d never had seen it. My mind just filled in “no” automagically.

  60. DenverJ

They’re calling Missouri for Harris. I’m surprised. KC?

    • R.J.

It’s 49 to 49, with only 6% reporting. Way too early to call anything.

  61. robodruid

Probably way to early, but the people on Democtatic underground are panicking.
