That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

I wear a hat. I have forehead acreage and it’s important to protect the north 40. Cooler weather brings out the Stetson fedora. The original feathers were starting to look a little ratty, so I found replacements online. The one above is my current favorite.

Links?

The amount of pants shitting that’s been going on all week because of Trump’s nominees is like a soliloquy to my ears. Because it’s all coming from the people I want to shit their pants.

I don’t have Netflix, so I relied on commentary from a couple of people that do. Netflix did not account well for itself. And the commentary I listened to on YouTube was probably better than actually watching the fight.

She’s already filed for 2026.

I don’t think they understand that the rest of us are okay with this.

Being a current victim of this phenomena, an explanation. You find a bucolic, lovely setting away from the hustle and bustle. And then you tear it up, cover it with houses, apartments and big box stores, so that it looks just like the ‘burbs you just left. And then you call it a liberating move. I used to live on the edge of town by fields of food. Now I’m right in the middle of SoCal North. No, I’m not bitter at all.

Absolute bullshit once again perpetrated by local governments. I’ve never had a DUI, but a couple of people I know have relayed the process. The interlock device is another third party grift, right up there with red light cameras.

Texas appears to have an influx of Haitians.

Okay folks, that’s it for me. Peace out Glibbies, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Evening? Already?

    Where has the time gone.

I will now read the lynx of potato. I’m in the mood for a nice blend of fingerlings. With garlic.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Are they lynx, or are they just the random tots of an old spud?

      • Aloysious

Eye am not sure, even now.

    • Spudalicious

      Thanks! Almost time for kickoff.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

I too like it. I have more of a monks tonsure gone wild, and so wear a pork pie much of the year. But now I move to a beanie.

  2. Yusef drives a Kia

Hello, I’m exiled in OKC for the rest of the month. Doing a clean out and renovation thing, it’s tough on the family but the lady abides.

  3. Aloysious

Speaking of pants shitting, I know a family that is three generations of Democrat. They have all lost their minds, except for the two 18 y/o girls, who look at the older folks and flat out call them nuts.

I’m hoping for budding libertarian types. We’ll see.

      • Aloysious

        Yes.

I try to be on my best behavior, in spite of being old and crazy.

      • Tres Cool

        Pics or it never happened.

I wake in my own house,
    It’s 4 in the morning,
    Hanging out with the boys,
    I creep in my bedroom,
    And slip into bed,
Cause I know If I wake her,
    I’ll wake up,
    Dead

  5. Gender Traitor

I’m feeling even further affirmed in my 41-year “boycott” of commercial air travel.

I keep hearing about Putin’s words coming out of Tulsi’s mouth except… no examples are ever provided. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Grumbletarian

To utter them is to commit treason. We’ll just have to trust them.

    • Suthenboy

Same old shit: Russia and sexual allegations. No details provided or needed. It is their go-to hit. Well, we did get piss hookers, there was that detail.

Which makes AOC’s claim way out of step? Did she not get the memo, or is there a new narrative forthcoming?

  7. rhywun

And now, in the wake of Donald Trump’s reelection, 4B is going viral on U.S. social media

Because Donald Trump is responsible for untold numbers of brutal murders of women. Or something.

    • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

That’s at least two cases of it! (Okay, totally fabricated ones, but still! It could happen to anyone)

    • Suthenboy

I thought it was JFK jr. and he was killing babies? I cant keep up.

  8. The Late P Brooks

She does not want to date. She feels no need to get married. Her ideal life is to form a tight-knit community with other single women. “It’s not just me,” she says. “All my friends rarely date these days for that reason. These issues are all we talk about when we get together.

    [insert exclamation of disbelief]

  9. rhywun

it looks just like the ‘burbs you just left

Seems inevitable unless one chooses a state that not everyone else is moving to.

    • Fourscore

There’s a reason people are leaving some states and head for others.

OTOH an hour and a half commute is not worth it. Time lost can’t be recovered. I sometimes drove a long way to work, I worked in different places on a daily basis but if it was an hour and a half I got a motel room and stayed 2-3-4 days ’til the job was done. Company picked up my tab and I had a company car.

      • Tres Cool

Likewise. I commute 3 hours one way each week to our office.
Regardless if I have a project to bill it to, or Im just administrative all week, they cover my mileage, hotel, and per diem.

    • Nephilium

I take some pleasure in knowing that “Ohio” is now slang for uncool to the yutes.

      • The Hyperbole

I’m so Ohio I didn’t even know that was a thing.

      • rhywun

“Upstate New York” would like a word.

  10. The Late P Brooks

    Blah blah blah exurbs!

    I blame Henry Ford.

  11. Shpip

My cousin and her friends are not alone. Across Korea, young women are swearing off men, influenced by the 4B movement, a radical feminist campaign that originated in Korea in the late 2010s. The four Bs stand for bi-hon (no marriage), bi-yeonae (no dating), bi-chulsan (no birthing) and bi-sex (no sex).

If your average American thot had that sort of foresight and discipline, abortion would be her number one issue.

    • Shpip

er, wouldn’t be her number one issue.

  12. The Late P Brooks

    Paradises

Greenville, located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northwest part of the Palmetto State, was just named the fourth best city to live in the country, after Naples, Florida; Boise, Idaho; and Colorado Springs, Colorado by U.S. News.

The website pointed out that the city, which has over 72,000 residents, has transformed “from a blip on the national map to a bustling metropolis” thanks to an influx of manufacturing jobs.

    No thanks.

I don’t see why you hate his suggestion that potatoes shouldn’t set themselves on fire….

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

What’s with all the ugly plants? Should probably just bulldoze those. Also, you need a few more bike lanes and some ‘traffic calming’ measures.

the fourth best city to live in the country, after Naples, Florida

Friends have a place in Naples. I have never seen so many Bentleys on the road as in Naples.

“Affordability” can’t be part of the criteria.

      • Spudalicious

I just saw a Bentley here and parked next to a Lambo last week.

      • Nephilium

        Spudalicious:

I never knew what the Bentley logo was until I was chatting with a girl at work (several jobs back) and mentioned I had gotten a new car. She saw the Mini logo and thought it was a Bentley. After looking up the cost of a Bentley, I had to wonder how much she thought us IT people made.

      • slumbrew

It’s just wild how many there are on the road down there.

Sitting outside at Jane’s on a Thursday you can watch the parade of private jets arriving for the weekend.

Our friends describe Miami as “drug dealers, rap artists annd pro athletes”, so Lamborghinis and the like but Naples is “retired C-suite types” so Bentleys.

    Nonpartisan saviors of Democrat-ocracy

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) announced on Wednesday a nonpartisan state-level initiative to foster collaboration with fellow governors to protect against threats to democracy and strengthen government institutions.

The nonpartisan coalition of governors, Governors Safeguarding Democracy (GSD), will “leverage the collective strength, experience, and institutional knowledge in governors’ offices across the country to craft laws and policies that protect the rule of law and serve the people of our great states,” according to the group’s website.

    ——-

The announcement did not mention any politician or political group by name but said the launch comes “as the nation faces increasing threats against American democracy – including the dangers of authoritarianism and the undermining of democratic institutions.”

The governors nodded to the timing of the launch in statements included in the press release.

“In this moment, protecting democracy has never been more relevant or important, and doing so demands strong leadership at the state level,” Polis said. “Governors Safeguarding Democracy shows our shared dedication to defending the democratic principles upon which our country is built.”

They will resist He Who Must Not Be Named to the very last drop of blood. Democracy has been usurped by people voting for the wrong man.

    • Spudalicious

If we didn’t have the 17th amendment, this wouldn’t be necessary for either side.

    • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

I was wondering why they bothered with the fig leaf of it being ‘nonpartisan’ then I realized they are going to waste taxpayer dollars on this garbage.

    • rhywun

      Stunning and brave.

  14. The Late P Brooks

Pritzker said: “At this critical moment in our history, we must unite to protect the foundations of our democracy and ensure our institutions withstand threats and persevere in their mission to improve the lives of our people.”

Good lord, what a fetid soup of substanceless blather.

  15. Sean

That interlock story is rage bait.

    • slumbrew

      Yes. Yes it is.

Might be a good IJ case, given they’re being punished prior to a conviction.

So Spud, whatcha got in that barrel?

I’m about to decant some home barrel aged Jack Daniels (Mrs. Dean prefers a Jack and soda, with Angostura bitters, for her cocktail these days).

Looks like the Haitians are acclimating to Texas culture.

    • trshmnstr

My BIL and SIL lived just south of Love field for a few years. To call that area a shit hole is offensive to shitholes. He had his car stolen, found it in a parking lot of an apartment complex, called out the cops, and when he had the audacity to ask them to sit on the car for a few hours to catch the guy who stole it, they said “who do you think we are? [insert suburb here]? Just get in your car and drive it back home.”

  18. DEG

“I’m not interested,” she says. “I just don’t trust men. You don’t know what they’re thinking these days — whether they’re one of the guys with misogynistic thoughts. It’s so normalized. Why would I even risk it?” she says.

First thought: She’s projecting her misandry onto men.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Alsotoo, there are a ton of women who did vote for Trump, and now they get the pick of all the men.

This will last about a week.

    • KSuellington

Having nutty chicks who don’t really like men swear off sex is a good thing. Bonus if they can do that head shaving thing too so as to make it really obvious.

    • Evan from Evansville

This is exactly how I read it. Well. Thanks, gals. Visibly taking yourself off the market helps weed the chaff. If the movement furthers, men will outnumber women. The limiting sex will show off (and put out) more to attract possible suitors. Thanks. We greatly appreciate it. (“Well, not THAT guy. He sucks. Now as for me, miss…”)

And it is predictable, those sorting themselves *out* of the field are likely uninteresting, unattractive, unaccomplished folk. Otherwise, their attention would be focused on more productive tasks and interests…but that would make them more interesting, attractive and accomplished. Can’t have that.

      • R.J.

I imagine most of them will wear the blue bracelets too. Hilarious that any news outlet thinks this will “reshape America.”

  19. The Hyperbole

While I applaud your choice of a grown up hat (as opposed to the baseball caps many of the man children around here seem to think is an acceptable head covering) I have always found the feather a bit twee. Get rid of it and wear a good old unadorned hat just like god intended. You don’t see Lee Van Cleef wearing a hat with a feather in it, fuck’s sake.

    • Nephilium

It depends on the hat. A Zoot hat without a feather is only half a hat. A porkpie on the other hand, doesn’t need a feather. A small understated feather on a fedora is perfectly cromulent.

      • UnCivilServant

You need two ostrich feathers and a brim that reaches your shoulders. You may pin up the side of the brim opposite the feathers if you have a rapier.

      • Nephilium

I’ve been tempted for several years to buy a suit from these guys. The suits that fit me in the 90’s are now with my nephew. I don’t know if he’s worn them yet.

      • UnCivilServant

Nah, the zoot suit doesn’t suit you.

    • Evan from Evansville

Gotta say I’m with Hyp, here. Unless for a performance or a purposeful occasion, I don’t get the throwback to Fancy-Pants Land.

Full disclaimer: I base my wardrobe on a) Fitting, and b) leaving Evan as un-standoutish as possible. I prefer my relative anonymity to come with no easy-to-catchphrase visual signal. “What’d he look like?!” “Uh, no idea, but he had a feather on!” See also: Visible tattoos; bright, flashy decoration; out-of-place dress; legible writing or images; etc. –> My guile requires shadow and deception. Often being a social cripple also lets me slink down unknown alleys.

      • rhywun

        un-standoutish as possible

        Dittoes.

I got a comment recently from a stranger on the bus on my cap – I was mortified.

    • Spudalicious

Oh, Hype. I’m guessing you like mayo, too.

      • R.J.

Next thing you know he’ll be making fun of tassels on fezzes.

      • Nephilium

        R.J.:

So many people asked what they needed to do to get a fez when they saw it. I also got asked multiple times if I was a shriner, mason, or Turkish.

  20. UnCivilServant

Why are developers obsessed with changing the ui, graphics, and icons?

These are the least necessary changes and most disruptive. I mean, these are open source projects, you don’t need to keep ruining the UI and appearance to convince your managers you’re working.

      • rhywun

Fixing bugs isn’t fun; going through the bug list isn’t fun; but rewriting everything from scratch is fun

To be fair, this is absolutely 💯% correct.

      • slumbrew

Oh, yes. Nobody wants to work on printer dialogs for fun, which is why Microsoft and Apple have to pay people to do so.

Open source works best when people are working on things they use themselves. E.g., things like Wireshark or the kernel itself.
