Back to the grind.

I was going to beef about being back to work…but I am glad I have work. I have a couple of friends that are still looking, despite good experience and qualifications. That, and I still have some good leftovers from Thanksgiving. So, I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

Have some links, everyone.

  • Blackberry was as fun as everyone thought she would be. SugarFree has an embarrassment of riches this week (month? Year?)
  • I thought “Bum Fights” had been disbanded?
  • Another day, another French political crisis.
  • OK, which one of you caused this?

Music… how about a little mix.

Free Cascadia, ZARDOZ HAS SPOKEN, etc. Comments are all yours.

I liked blackberries until you and SF ruined it for me. *stomps out and slams door

    • SDF-7

She could have been Black Cherry — but SF wouldn’t have had that last very long.

      • kinnath

        Buck Cherry?

      • bacon-magic

        I would’ve went with huckleberry.

      • Compelled Speechless

She’s called Blackberry because she replaced Strawberry (Psaki). Am I the only one who follows SF cannon?

    • Chafed

      I still eat them.

      • Tundra

        Yep. Pretty much every day.

    • Ownbestenemy

Melissa Cohen Biden seems like she needs to be defiled

    • Swiss Servator

Sorry….we all have to suffer for SF’s art.

  2. Sensei

“He just said it’s infected with politics!” the journalist exclaimed.

“So how deep is the rot? How many selective prosecutions are there at the DOJ?” the journalist pressed.

    LOL.

    • SDF-7

“How can you start using actual logic on this administration now?”

    • Chafed

Her answers were as good as usual.

      • juris imprudent

What I can speak to is this particular case, which is Hunter Biden, who has the last name of the president

Has she been under Kamala’s desk?

  3. Bobarian LMD

Politically infected? I wonder if that causes a drip or is it more of a burning sensation?

  4. The Late P Brooks

“The president took action because of how politically infected these cases were,” Jean-Pierre told incredulous members of the press pool.

“Hunter was singled out and because his last name was Biden, because he was the president’s son, that’s what we saw,” she said.

    Republicans pounced.

    • SDF-7

That it coincidentally covers up our influence peddling and bribery has nothing to do with it….

  5. Aloysious

“Epidemic hits bison breeding station in Switzerland”

Personally, I think it was STEVE SMITH. It’s my firm conviction [Narrator: conspiracy theory] that he was training to celebrate Cascadia’s bison-tennial.

    • SDF-7

No one can buffalo you — you got a psychic to read STEVE SMITH’s aurochs.

      • Bobarian LMD

STEVE FIND HER TO BE BOVINE

      • Aloysious

I was expecting The Great White Buffalo. Because I was having a senior moment with the name of the song.

      • SDF-7

You’re listening to Your Own Private Buffalo now Aloysious.

      • Aloysious

Careful, SDF-7. If you reference that song, you’ll catch the attention of Spud, who will be triggered as tubers are the natural prey of free range buffalo. Beware the eye.

      • Spudalicious

During my brief time on TOS, my username was MyPrivateIdaho. I couldn’t fit in the whole thing.

    • Pope Jimbo

One bison cow died from the disease, which is transmitted by stinging insects.

I blame the trans activists. They stressed the cow so badly with the constant haranguing. You’d die too if you were always having the LGBTQ2+ crowd shouting “Buffalo gals won’t you come out tonight?!”

      Just let them be!

  6. Shpip

In several European bison breeding stations, animals have died of bluetongue in recent months. The association emphasised that the species is still susceptible. According to the information, there were recently more than 10,000 bison in Eastern Europe and in conservation centres in Western Europe.

Is ten thousand a lot? I’m completely buffaloed.

    • SDF-7

The Swiss are just worried about ending up like the British guards — all hat and no cattle.

    • Shpip

I once financed a Bollywood movie in the style of Cocaine Bear about buffalo that suddenly turned on their masters.

Predictably, it was full of blood and gaur.

      • SDF-7

I’m looking into my options if layoffs happen in my industry.

One possibility is highly focused bakeries. In particular, I was thinking of one specializing in re-creating pioneer food with a Manhattan twist. Oxen Bagels should sell well.

(Folks will hoof it on over… and if they don’t — well, I guess I’ll let the chips fall where they may!)

      • Fourscore

You had to horn in with that, didn’t you?

      • Pope Jimbo

What makes this extra special is that it was Swiss who threw that big fat fastball over the middle of the plate.

He is the one who got his own ox gored.

      • Fourscore

        Yeah, that’s what I herd.

  7. Lord Humungus

    >>I am glad I have work. I have a couple of friends that are still looking, despite good experience and qualifications.

At least in my line of work I’ve noticed less sales last month – compared to last year. I first thought it was the election putting people off late October/early November but it seems to be lasting.

Of course the kind of things I sell – along with the other vendors – appeal to ah… people with a more artistic side. ::ahem:: I guess Canada is filling up with these refugees 😉

  8. The Late P Brooks

Insiders are reportedly worried that this will devalue the MSNBC’s reputation as a reliably anti-Trump network.

‘Most of us don’t want to be part of that,’ the journalist told the US Sun. ‘Some are thinking about trying to join other media organizations where we can do our job with respect and values to bring truth to the table without being pressured by the people in power.’

Go down with the ship, you cowards.

      • juris imprudent

No one at MSNBC is up to Bee standards. No one.

        Not even close.

    • Bobarian LMD

where we can do our job with respect and values to bring truth to the table without being pressured by the people in power.

I wonder what color the sky is in that world? Probably so far away it’s not even in our spectrum.

    • Chafed

It’s particularly funny because MSNBC is for sale. Their viewership has plummeted.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

The sky there is blue. Deep, coastal Blue.

    • kinnath

Margaret Love, a former pardon attorney in the Justice Department, says she has ‘never seen language like this in a pardon document’. Apart from in Gerald Ford’s blanket pardon for Richard Nixon in 1974, that is. There, too, the pardon extended even to offences not yet charged.

Witnessing history for the second time in my life.

Ford was trying to protect the country. Biden is trying to save his own ass.

      • SDF-7

Or Jill is. I’m not sure Biden knows where his own ass is presently.

In any event — I expect Jim’s will be coming soon… probably just go ahead and send them out to the whole family to cover their bases. Why not at this point?

      • OBJ FRANKELSON

Odds on PPP pardoning himself at 11:59 pm January 19th, 2025?

      • Pope Jimbo

        SDF:

I think that he is thinking too small. Why is he limiting it only to past crimes? You know those mean rethuglicans will just dream up some new charges in a few months.

Just issue a pardon that says: “Any Biden shall be pardoned for any past or future crimes”

    • The Other Kevin

As happy as I am with the rebuke the Dems just got, I always remind myself they are one Trump fuck-up away from getting back into power.

      • SDF-7

Yup — even in the absolute best case, we’re probably looking 8 years out at most for them to regain most of DC, if not just 2 for the House. Which is why they need to seriously make this count and tear down the infrastructure that’s been built up for abuse while they can. Which I’m not holding my breath for since Eyepatch, Minions of the Turtle, etc. won’t want that.

I keep coming back to “humanity needs a frontier to get away from these assholes — once they entrench, only full on cataclysm resets it”. Sigh.

      • Lord Humungus

Waaay back in the mists of time I had a bad premonition of how zany the left would get after Trump got out of office. My fears were proven right – and even more so than I imagined.

I look at the next four years as a respite from the left but fully expect them to come back with full DERP in force.

      • rhywun

        humanity needs a frontier

        Get my ass to Mars.

    • Chafed

We’ll see. I think it puts a stake through the pretension of Biden being decent, moral, etc.

    • rhywun

They are charmingly optimistic over there at Spiked.

    • SDF-7

This is the sort of thing that balances out that little voice in my head that sometimes whispers that a ‘Vette would be neat.

I’m nowhere near qualified to really drive one — and what’s the point of wasting all that potential?

      • Tundra

I’m in the camp of “I’d rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.”

      • Sensei

        Me too Tundra.

My Model 3 does 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds. It’s fun occasionally and annoys the hell out of my passengers, but it’s mostly useless on public roads.

The car handles fine, but it is by no means a stellar sports sedan and it weighs 4,000 lbs. not exactly a back road star.

      • Tundra

        Sensei:

My old Triumph had a 1.5L motor, weighed less than 1800 lbs and was a fucking riot to drive. It was a comfortable go-cart.

I’m sure the 0-60 was horrible but whipping it through the curvy country roads was amazing.

    • Sean

      That’s not gonna buff out.

    • Lord Humungus

Even my lil old 2014 Mustang V6 with 305hp (and an aftermarket 3.55 rear gear) could become a handful with a little overzealous driving. I can’t imagine having another 100-150 (or whatever) horsepower on tap. They are light in the back. I kept my traction/stability control on all the time just to save me from my worst impulses.

These days I prefer AWD – easier to launch on the street versus tire hazing RWD.

      • kinnath

My 19 yo Z is more than enough to keep me happy.

I can’t imagine driving some of the newer high-horsepower cars on the street.

      • Tres Cool

Our ’14 Challenger is an SRT/8 with the 392. Its a big car but will do 0-60 around 4.2 seconds.
Thank G-d that thing has traction control. Also thankful I never had anything like it when I was 20 years old.

  9. LCDR_Fish

    Good piece.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/the-jobs-that-joe-biden-wont-get-around-to-filling/

    key takeaway:

    …..

President Biden never got around to naming a director to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement; ICE has been led by an acting director since 2017. Some Biden appointees left early and were never replaced. Chris Magnus resigned as head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in November 2022; CBP has had an acting director since then. If Biden had wanted to defuse the accusation of neglecting the border and illegal immigration, he might have found someone to nominate to run ICE sometime in the past nearly four years, and someone to nominate to run CBP in the last two years.

    …..

Biden is missing inspector-general appointments to the General Services Administration, NASA, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Social Security Administration, and the “special inspector general for the Office of the Troubled Asset Relief Program.” The TARP, as you will recall, was established in the fall of 2008. It might make sense to not appoint a special inspector general for TARP, but it also might make sense to eliminate the position.

Do you think Rachel Maddow is just acting? I picture her getting fired one day, painting her windows black, peeing in jars, and raving about Trump listening to her through the electric outlets.

    • Chafed

      Isn’t she doing that already?

Who was that blogger that became convinced about the whole mass conspiracy around the Palin’s kid?

      • Tundra

He’s back to sounding saner these days.

    • Suthenboy

What you see and hear in the media from both the members of the press and the pols themselves is all theater. It is performance art calculated to delude us into thinking we have some control, some say in what goes on while the looting continues unabated.

    • kinnath

Too bad it was the passenger and not the driver that kicked the bucket.

    • Lord Humungus

      Looks like a Dodge Challenger?

When I was in HS there was a kid who had a really nice Olds 442 that his dad bought him. This 16 – 17yo was also – so I heard – running nitrous in it. Anyways, he was driving way too fast in a residential street, didn’t make a curve and ended up going into the ditch.

In the ditch was an embankment where an asphalt driveway was located. The Olds was launched into the air, went a dozen or more feet, and ended up landing on the roof. Two weeks later the same kid – who survived – had yet another muscle car. ::eye roll::

      • B.P.

Maybe a year ago I was at the airport rental car booth when a flatbed rolled up with a trashed Challenger. The guy in the booth said people are always wiping out in them.

      • Shpip

        P. J. O’Rourke once wrote that “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”

Except teenage boys don’t even need the whiskey most of the time.

There’s a fly-in community called Jumbolair just south of Big College Town (John Travolta used to keep his B707 parked at his home there). One evening, a teen decided to take dad’s M5 out on the runway to see how fast it could go in a straight line. As a bonding experience or for bragging rights, he loaded up four of his friends in the car.

You can guess how the story ended.

      • Sensei

Residents also complained to police about the lack of security at the airstrip, saying teens had been caught sneaking cars onto the runway.

It’s a gated community. Who exactly should be responsible for the security?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Having barely survived the “speed testing” I did with my father RX7 back in high school giving my insight into this phenomenon, if it is a gated community, that kind of speaks volumes to who was doing the racing.

    • Sensei

That’s posted on that thread in Reddit!

    • Pope Jimbo

Uffda. Seems like a nationwide epidemic!

A beloved St. Paul pub was damaged by fire and thousands of residents lost power overnight when a driver reportedly crashed into a transformer.

Patrick McGovern’s Pub on West Seventh Street confirmed in an early morning Facebook post that its distinctive corner “turret” caught on fire “after a careless driver hit a transformer and fled the scene last night.”

In the aftermath of the incident, the Xcel Energy outage map showed there were more than 13,000 customers in the St. Paul area without power, mostly in the West Seventh, West Side and Summit Hill neighborhoods.

Or am I being naïve in calling it an epidemic? Should I call it a conspiracy instead? Is this the Resistance 2.0?

  11. kinnath

So Joe needs to pardon Jim, Jill, and himself before leaving office right.

Unless the puppet masters know that Joe will never live long enough to see the end of a future trial.

    • Ownbestenemy

Im still holding out that this was an establishment move. There will be a fall guy/gal eventually.

      • Ownbestenemy

Also this wasn’t a dad loving his son. I am holding firm it was a step-mothers hope to just ride off into the sunset.

      • juris imprudent

That picture in the NYP of Jill, Hunter and Hunter’s wife – I’d always wondered what someone who sold their soul looks like, and looking at Melissa Cohen Biden, I now know.

      • kinnath

Even if Joe pardons the entire Biden family, there has be be a large number of other people involved in the corruption with Ukraine and China. Each pardoned family member can be targeted for testimony in front of whatever congressional commission the Repubs put together for the next two years.

I am hoping for world class fireworks.

    • The Other Kevin

“I hereby pardon anyone who has ever worked in my administration from any and all crimes they may have committed, both known and unknown, during the past 12 years.”

      • Pope Jimbo

Like I said above TOK, you better include future crimes too.

No way Hunter won’t be nut deep in some new trouble in just a few months. His art isn’t going to sell itself on merit.

  12. Ownbestenemy

Its gonna be another fun 4 years now isn’t it?

Special Counsel Rejects Hunter Biden’s Pardon, Files Scathing Rebuke In Court Case

“The defendant did not docket the pardon nor has the government seen it. If media reports are accurate, the Government does not challenge that the defendant has been the recipient of an act of mercy. But that does not mean the grand jury’s decision to charge him, based on a finding of probable cause, should be wiped away as if it never occurred. It also does not mean that his charges should be wiped away because the defendant falsely claimed that the charges were the result of some improper motive. No court has agreed with the defendant on these baseless claims, and his request to dismiss the indictment finds no support in the law or the practice of this district.”

    • slumbrew

State courts aren’t bound by a federal pardon, correct?

      • slumbrew

Ah, district court. So still federal.

      • juris imprudent

Hunter’s state court problems revolved around his spawn, and still will.

      • juris imprudent

Ohhhhhh, you just gave me an idea. Hunter was resident in CA for the tax offenses, right? It isn’t likely he reported that income to CA Franchise Tax Board. And those fuckers are more ruthless than the IRS. I think they offer a bounty too.

      • slumbrew

I was thinking that as well – 9% of over a million in unreported income is a nice chunk.

To me, the bare minimum that a president should do is issue credible threats when our citizens are taken hostage. I don’t remember Biden mentioning them at all.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Poor Laptop Class folk. They might have to go back to the office.

Why is their “morale” down? Civil service is not designed to be political. The only reason for a government worker to have low morale (other than knowing his job is likely useless and that he’s a net drag on society), is if you made it political, and your team lost.

These are the fuck we want out.
