Saturday evening Links

SMU is currently shitting the bed, so it looks like Penn State versus Boise on NYE. For today? We have Links!

Good thing I don’t need anything for the Gulch next week.

This is the second weekend in a row I’ve posted an article about the pants shitting over Kash Patel.

Straight up poser. His last name isn’t even Lucas. I believe the response of Trump world is “absolute moron”.

The Twink In The North isn’t faring too well these days.

An American badass.

“Who’s going to pick our crops?” appears to be a standard refrain.

Okay, that’s good for today. Peace out, Glibbies.

Being the weekend before Christmas, this is obligatory.

Once MPs are back in their seats, opposition leader Jagmeet Singh has vowed to bring down the minority government with a no-confidence vote.

Wasn’t he the guy propping up Trudeau? So if he’s jumped ship, Trudeau is done.

    • UnCivilServant

Singh made that statement after parliment recessed, so there won’t be any votes for over a month. Last time he made a similar statement at a similar time he went back on it after parliment reconvened.

      • Chipping Pioneer

This is another empty threat from Singh. The polls show that the NDP would be decimated, along with the Liberals, were an election held today.

Singh stated that he would introduce a non confidence motion during the next session of parliament, which is currently scheduled for Jan 27. Unstated is whether they would vote for a non confidence motion introduced by either the Conservatives or the Bloc Quebecois.

The Conservatives and the Bloc Quebecois each have 2 opposition days, during which they can introduce motions, including of non confidence, before the NDP’s turn comes up, which is, at best, late February, after Singh’s pension is fully vested.

Singh is, as Texans would say, all hat and no cattle.

I don’t get these federal charges against Mangione.

Biden’s got nothing to pardon, otherwise.

  3. Spudalicious

Fuck you WordPress. I tried to defeat your new, stupid format and failed.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

The hatred of a thousand Suns,
        I hate thee

the pants shitting over Kash Patel.

Haven’t I heard somewhere something to the effect that if you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear?

    • Chafed

      Hello contestant number one.

  5. Tundra

β€œThey won’t let me drive the cart anymore,” said Medeiros, chuckling, β€œnot after I hit the guy.”

And it only gets better from there.

    Cheers, Arthur.

  6. Q Continuum

“The dozen current and former officials who have spoken to NBC News said that the various federal investigations of Trump were fueled by his statements or actions and that they were all conducted properly. They said they do not fear going to jail because they committed no crimes.”

Say it with me now, you corrupt little invertebrates: “The. Process. Is. The. Punishment.” You’re the ones who made the rules after all. Enjoy!

    • Grumbletarian

Lying in order to get warrants is not a crime?

  7. Mojeaux

So I just got an email back from Draft2Digital telling me basically tough shit and “maybe you should hire somebody to do this for you.”

I AM THE HIRED HELP YOU WOLVERINE CARCASS!

“We were built for straight narrative fiction. We don’t handle specialized formatting.”

    YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!

    Your FAQ says you do!

Excuse me while I cut my hair into a Karen wedge and go full I WANT TO SEE YOUR MANAGER!

      • Mojeaux

        Indeed.

The parting shot to my professionally ranty (and a few “as per my prior email”s thrown in for good measure):

“I cannot tell you how utterly frustrating it is to once have been able to put a Word DOC in the meatgrinder and have it come out looking the same since 2008, to now, 13 years later, be back to simple stuff that was primitive in 1999. […] Your FAQ is deceitful. You cannot do “some” specialized formatting. You can barely do simple.”

  8. Tundra

Watched Hit Man on the plane today. I can’t decide if I liked it. It had its moments, but it kind of went off the rails at the end.

One thing that is unassailable: Adria Arjona is absurdly beautiful.

    • Aloysious

I thought you were going to reference Hitman(2007), and I was going to agree that Olga Kurylenko is a pretty lady.

I’ll have to check out the new movie. Just because.

      • Ted S.

I was thinking of Hit Man.

      • PutridMeat

Yes, I think I’ll have to go with Aloysious here; Olga Kurylenko is definitely the better actress.

      • The Hyperbole

        Her earlobes are off-putting.

      • Tres Cool

        “Her earlobes are off-putting”

What are you? A finish carpenter or something ?

      • Aloysious

He just likes cauliflower ears. Maybe he’s a vegisexual.

  9. Grummun

Tonight is the annual viewing of Christmas Vacation. Truly, a cinematic treasure.

    • Chipping Pioneer

It is the greatest Christmas movie.

      • Chipping Pioneer

That movie does not have peak Beverly D’Angelo.

  10. Grummun

Also, today we drove to visit a breeder that has two (2) Corgi litters in the house. Nine Corgi pups running around, climbing on us, chewing on my beard. Awesome.

    • Tundra

Congrats! When are you bringing the little beastie home?

      Pembroke?

    • Tundra

      Damn. That’s young.

    • Evan from Evansville

Evan doesn’t like this. Hands-down your lead-off man for any 9-man team you could conjure. For a while now, I’ve spoken about myself in the third person. I never do it in public and I’m actively making fun of myself (most of the time), but it’s def part of my inner monologue. When I played, I was also a steady leadoff hitter. I *never* hit a home run, but when I was 10 I *did* break the nose of an Evansville Otter, who played in the Frontier League, a non-minor League team but a professional circuit. He was nice to throw batting practice one day and he was lobbing it in there. Β―\_(ツ)_/ Whoopsies.

I’m especially shocked by him only being 65. RIP.

Who decided Tennessee and SMU deserved to be in the CFP?

    • Grummun

Tenn showing some signs of life. Sloop is probably spitting teeth after that INT call in the end zone.

      • Spudalicious

He’s at the game and loving life.

    • Fourscore

Is your display all set up? Ready for a drive-by?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

It’s up now, but I’m still finishing Sally Brown, so essentially yep!
I have a pictorial submitted, just me and a jigsaw…

      • Tundra

I think you’ve earned a Christmas band saw.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

I have one but the jig with a 20tpi blade works fine, and I got a battery powered knock off that uses my Dewalt 20v batteries, score!

      • Tundra

        I meant scroll saw, duh.

        Nice score!

      • Yusef drives a Kia

I have of those but it’s a pain to setup where I live, the 20v jig is really convenient to just pull out and go to work.

  12. Fourscore

Some neighbors came by this evening, bringing home made Christmas edibles. During the growing season I provide produce and honey from the garden . 5 gallons of crab apples got me 2 jars of crab apple butter, 2 jars of pickles, a bag of caramel corn and a loaf of oatmeal cranberry bread.

I have started apple seeds in the house, I’ll share them with friends and neighbors. There will be apples long after we’re gone.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

We did that back in Michigan, I made lots of homemade fudge, some wa shall we say, More edible than others?
But it was all local friends, honey, cherries, weed, much love for the place.

    • DEG

      mmm…. apple butter

    • groat scotum

Some excellent conservation of momentum tho

    • Evan from Evansville

I quite liked their first two albums, for sure. They certainly got interesting with their videos, to my approval. This one is the Rube Goldberg machine for This Too Shall Pass. I used to show this in classes for a fun interlude.

Years ago I drove out to some horrible little town in the middle of nowhere Texas for a wedding. I took a friend along. I think she thought we were seeing each other. At the wedding I hooked up with the bride’s sister, kinda. Fingered her out back of the barnyard venue where the reception took place. We were caught. Was awkward. I had to drive my sobbing friend back to the hotel where we shared a sullen bed.

BUT the morning after I acquainted her with the entire catalogue of OK Go, so I figure even steven?

        Never heard from her again.

    • Evan from Evansville

Yours is certainly more interesting. That’s.. impressive. I don’t care how they did it/ what bits are fake.

I’d also like to get to know those Romanian gymnasts. I’ll be their comedian.

      • groat scotum

That might actually be my favorite of theirs, of all their ostentatious videos, all the malarky, the simple dancing couple (which, when you rewatch it, isn’t at all simple) is just so poetic and perfect. And I love the song.

    pistofnick’s end of year review:
The days are getting longer after December 21. The reason for the season is the earth’s axial tilt.
I still have hope – I don’t know why? Not a Trump fan, but definately an Elon fan.
My kids still think they hate me, despite all the shit their mother put me (and us) through. Also, despite all the advantages I gave them. They side with her.
The garden was not as productive, due to laziness on my part and on my girlfriend breaking her kneecap.
The tractor still wont start in mid teen temperatures – even after I put 5W-50 oil in it. Block heaters are the next step.
My snowblower is still in pieces.
My brand new septic system has a clogged filter alarm.
My chickens are eating a lot but not producing many eggs. 20~ish chickens = 7~eggs per day
Elon Musk Is still my hero.
Thomas Massie is still my hero.

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

My three kids don’t give a shit – despite all the sacrifices I made for them.

    • Gustave Lytton

My kids still think they hate me, despite all the shit their mother put me (and us) through. Also, despite all the advantages I gave them. They side with her.

I’ve been that kid. Give them time and take the high road. They’ll remember the high road.

      Diesel or gas?

My brand new septic system has a clogged filter alarm.

      Smells like money!

The days are getting longer after December 21.

Amen to that. Sunset at 4:30 is for the birds.

  15. groat scotum

I like it. What’s so great about sunshine? It’s bright and it gets everywhere.

    • Tres Cool

      Same with snow.

Why do native americans hate snow?
Its white and settles on their land.

      /Hey-Ohhhh

      • groat scotum

        Hah!

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Ooh, killer dig!

  16. Yusef drives a Kia

It begins, I am on a 2 week tournament sprint starting tomorrow at the Sunday squirrels tag tournament then off to caddy my friend at the Gates of hell, which is a pro qualifying tournament.
Next is the Dog Haus open, a B tier event, very difficult layout, so I’m doing 2 practice rounds mid week before the two day event.
    Then I fly to Manistee

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Go out in the sunshine, maybe get off someone’s lawn, trust me, you’ll look and feel better

  17. groat scotum

It’s barely eleven. WHERE ALL YOU ALL

there’s still drinking fighting and fornicating

    • Chafed

Watching Star Trek with daughter 2.

      • groat scotum

I’ll abbreviate the fornicating on account of your daughter but there’s fighting and drinking!

      • Chafed

        I appreciate your discretion.

  18. LCDR_Fish

Man…jet lag kicked my ass this time – socked out for ~10 hours. Partly the time difference – also didn’t get as much sleep as I was hoping on the main leg of travel. Norfolk to JFK, 8 hours from JFK to Rome, then another short one to Naples. If I had managed to get on the Navy flight it would have been nonstop from Norfolk.

Hope I can get caught up quick even though not much will be happening here over the holidays.

    • DrOtto

I once read in either Playboy or Penthouse that jet lag could be tamed by a well timed cigarette.

  19. DrOtto

Fuckin’ a. The new Ram w/the Hurricane 6 turbo is faster than my 3 fastest cars (which are all tied at 12.9 sec in the 1/4 mile.) I need to but a faster car, just because. Or tune what I’ve got.

    • LCDR_Fish

Given how recently it happened in real time, the only reason I can think that we already had an official statement is that they want to get ahead of the Houthis claiming that this was a successful shootdown by them…

Hard to say which would be worse realistically.
