The problem is that the fuckers across the lake have power and i am sitting here in the dark watching those bastards having light.
That is no bueno. I hope it resolves quickly.
The outage has moved to the other side of the lake?

“By prohibiting the use of appropriated funds, the Department of Defense will be compelled to contravene clinical practice guidelines and clinical recommendations. The provision targets a group based on that group’s gender identity and interferes with parents’ roles to determine the best care for their children,” he said. “This section undermines our all-volunteer military’s ability to recruit and retain the finest fighting force the world has ever known by denying health care coverage to thousands of our service members’ children.”
Biden added: “No service member should have to decide between their family’s health care access and their call to serve our Nation.”
Haha, good one, Joe. Now do plague shots.
Plague Shots? A glass of fishtank cleaner and horse medicine?

I’m so happy to see SANTA STEVE.
I can’t share the SANTA STEVE joke with anyone in meatspace. If I sing, “Have a holly, rapey Christmas” everybody looks at me funny. They have no sense of humor.
Dear Mr Smith,
I enrolled with Zelle, I’m ready to go .
I can’t figure out how to ‘communicate’.
It doesn’t seem too easy for an old guy
Yours in Glibs Gulch,
Fourscore
I’d figure it out – you don’t want a personal collection visit.
I can help with this. To start, I am just going to need the last 4 digits of your social security number, your credit card number, and the 3 digit security code on the back…
I feel very uncomfortable talking about charitable contributions due to having been inculcated with my dad’s strong emphasis on anonymous giving, per Christian protocol. But I have expressed my appreciation for this respite from the open sewer that is the rest of the internet this year, and I consider myself extremely privileged to have had enough left over in my coffers to contribute an admittedly trivial amount to the incredible work of the Institute for Justice this year as well. For those who are sufficiently blessed to itemize, contributions are tax-deductible.
If you are able, I also encourage those who are able to contribute what you can to local charities within your communities as well. The church in which I grew up prided itself on contributing over 80% of its charitable contributions to “overseas missions,” and while that is a noble and admirable cause, I have always been of the persuasion that one’s money is best spent locally. It’s true that the poorest among us here in the states are more privileged than some of those in far away lands. However, it’s far easier to hold local organizations accountable, and to see the immediate benefits of one’s contributions. If you possibly can, don’t leave your own neighbors to the tender mercies of the welfare state.
Overseas missions are one of those noble and admirable causes in principle but is in no way, shape or form that in practice. I strongly advise anyone thinking of contributing to NOT do so but instead what you said – give your money locally and anonymously to the local family that lost a breadwinner, whose house burned or whose kid has cancer.
Giving is a touchy subject for me.
I’m a territorial bitch and I protect my assets like a dragon on a pile of gold. Further, my dad would give to the family’s detriment, but I never knew if that was his being generous or pride that he had more than others or a mixture, BUT I would babysit sometimes (which I hated), and he would make me refuse payment. So I didn’t do that anymore. (Widow’s mite, I know, I know.)
Giving hurts. It feels like I’m being violated. But SOMETIMES I am just impressed that I need to help somebody out of a bind. E.g., fill up somebody’s tank when they’re struggling at the gas pump, giving strangers a place to stay for the night, paying for somebody’s groceries. It happens in the moment and I don’t feel bad at all. Lots of times, my husband will see something and say, “Hey, I think we should…” and I don’t have a problem with that, either.
With Glibs, I feel like I do with shareware and donationware, buskers and artists: If I use the service/software (especially if I’m making money off it), or if a busker makes me stop and watch, they have done a good job and I need to pay them for their effort. I don’t consider that charity.
It’s one reason I’m just so humbled by what Musk did. He didn’t give some strangers a place to stay for the night. He gave the world the gift of freedom when the MSM and socials were throttling opinions they didn’t like. He may have some idea it was an investment for him, but to me, it will always be an act of charity.
I haven’t seen MikeS here today. I wonder if his favorite Christmas song is also his gift.

Yeah, that ain’t easy. Also appears that the paramedics that finally took over couldn’t get it beating and continued CPR all the way to the hospital.
This NFL by streaming shit is out of control.
Today’s games—and only today’s—are available on Netflix—and ONLY Netflix.
I don’t have Netflix and I don’t intend to subscribe just for this shit.
Roger Goodell needs to GO.

Pittsburgh has a TD called back on a bad holding penalty. Next play, the Chefs intercept a pass in the end zone.
Trial sub, then cancel. Fuck ’em.
SP and I had Netflix until they pissed her off. And that was that. Since then, I’ve honored her hatred.
The owners chose him and gave him a huge contract. I think they are cannibalizing their future but I don’t own a team. 🤷♂️
They learned from Rozelle, who put the whole league in consideration and got a man that toadies to them.
Follow the money.
I’m assuming as the current network contracts expire each will move to streaming.
The NBA has been trying that, and viewship is half of what it was back in 2012.
Mind you, the switch from network TV to streaming is only one reason for the
leagueassociation’s diminished popularity: the face of the NBA is a flopper and a whiner, the regular season is a farce, and the play is unwatchable to anyone who watched the game a few decades ago — everything is either drive to the hoop for a posterizing dunk or jack up a three-pointer. It’s gone from an urban game to a ghetto game, and middle America is no longer interested./kicks over soapbox and goes back to his whiskey
I wonder if my older (and much taller) brother is still a fan.
But yeah, I haven’t watched in decades and don’t plan to again.
And yet I suspect if the money isn’t there, they wouldn’t be doing/allowing any of that.

Merry Christmas to all Glibsters. Special Eve’s thanks to Pie and his Romanian insight, TPTB, and our not-so driveling readership.
I’m not excited to see the new Bob Dylan flick. Dad’s choice, something I suppose I presciently ‘suggested’ when making fun of the obvious ‘Old Timey Flicks’ with their captive…geriatric audiences. I love Dylan through Blood on the Tracks, and Freewheelin’ Bob was remarkable for his age. I see no point in watching an artist’s representation of a living artist. Nothing revelatory and I don’t see the point. Naturally, he’s apparently ill from our XMas fish boil (no one else is) and he’ll likely stay in… to watch the NFL. He knows how to use Prime for Thursday and I assume he will figure out Netflix for today.
Regardless, today is purposefully chill, with all family activities accomplished joyously yesterday. Hope everyone’s day goes as well as possible. Oooh, I gotta sync up my new key fob… *to the Ev-Mobile!*
More Boomershit.
I’ve never heard her sing.
Gilmore’d. That was to @JI re Courtney Love.
Her voice is perfectly acceptable for the type of music she was making.
It’s not like she’s a crooner.
Bob Dylan’s voice is like a lemon zester being scraped over a sunburn. Cannot STAND his work.
He is a top level talent songwriter, but indeed not a top level talent singer. I don’t mind his voice as much as you and many, but I do like his low croon much much more. It was years before I realized that “Lay, Lady, Lay” was a Dylan tune.
Neil Young with a head cold, still like some of his stuff though.
Time for another exciting round of “World’s Worst Vocal Quartet!” My perennial top contenders: Bob Dylan, Neil Young*, Yoko Ono, and…..? (Must be a known female recording artist.)
*May substitute Leonard Cohen for either male if desired.
Bjork?
The list doesn’t have to be finite. Just dial down the superlative.
Leonard Cohen is a worthy contender for world’s worst vocalist.
Also, Chuck Berry was not impressed with Yoko Ono.
Bjork is actually an incredibly talented singer, but I can understand not liking her style at all. I’d nominate Arianna Grande or Katy Perry for shitty female vocalist of all time list.
Arianna Grande and Katy Perry just blend into the background. Can’t tell one auto-tuned pop starlet from another.
I don’t like Kate Bush, either.
At least they’re singing and not just repeating the same line over and over, with or without distortion.
I’d put both Dylan and Young ahead of any one of today’s falsetto screamers, too.
“Leonard Cohen is a worthy contender for world’s worst vocalist.”
Whaaaaaaaat? Leonard Cohen is pure awesome!
(dylan sucks everywhich way you look at him)
Oh, and Yoko was the best Beatle.
There, I said it.
Would Tiny Tim qualify as a female vocalist?
Chase Strangio says why not?
Randy Newman has entered the chat.
I like Randy Newman.
Lay Lady Lay as sung by Simon Lebon is pure sex
How did Courtney Love not immediately come to mind?
I like Leonard Cohen’s voice. It’s his tempo (or lack there of) and production I have problems with. As far a bad female vocalists, I nominate Miley Cyrus as your 4th. The rest named are all suitably bad vocalists.
@rhywun – if it wasn’t for his singing, Randy Newman wouldn’t have any talent.
Maybe it was the Newman parody in a South Park I just saw a few days ago. But it seemed awful-ly on point from what li’l Rhywun remembered.
Happy Christmas to all the Glibs (and Chanukah for those of that inclination). Having a great mellow one. Fully caffeinated and just finished the Xmas breakfast of huevos rancheros and fresh squeezed oj. Kids are playing with their games, wife is trying to figure out the sewing machine she bought for our youngest and I’m listening to Jolly Ole Soul on somafm and buying some filters and things for the new to me Austrian dirt machine I bought a week back after I sold my Honda dirt machine. This is my all time favorite soul Xmas tune. Love it. Enjoy the day people.

Thanks Chafed. Best to you and your family as well!

As ready as I can be for the impending home invasion otherwise known as a visit from my two sisters and one BIL. Chili cooked yesterday and aged to perfection overnight is warming on the stove, a jazzy instrumental version of “Sleigh Ride” is playing on the stereo. No snow and a bit gray outside, but unseasonably warm (47 proper degrees,) so I’ll take it.
Insert the sincere holiday greeting of your choice from me. 🙂
Lacey things, the wife is missing
Didn’t ask, for her permission

I sing this with STEVE SMITH voice.
How do you hear Steve Smith’s voice? As a modified Cookie Monster growl, or a mutated Frank Sinatra?
More Barry White, I think.
Made Deviled Eggs.
😋
mmmm deviled eggs /homer
Please tell me you used either Hellman’s or Duke’s and NOT (spits on floor) “Miracle Whip”.
While it’s an insignificant ingredient, the mayo was Hellman’s.
There’s no such thing as Duke’s and “Miracle Whip” isn’t Mayo.
Duke’s isn’t likely in your area since you’re a bit north of the Mason-Dixon. But in certain applications it is superior to Hellman’s.
I’m glad we agree that Miracle Whip isn’t mayo. It is, in fact, an heresy to the taste buds.
Chilling around the house, as I still have not gotten dressed. Wife and I just do stockings, as we will just get ourselves what we need and low key is better for us. Had goose steaks for dinner last night, one less of the hate birds (the birds that hate) to harry us, and tonight is seafood stew (our tradition) and a few beers, and hopefully some Xmas cheer, IYKWIMAITYD.
Merry ChanuMas to everyGlib, and to all Glibs, a good night!
Both the crown roast of pork and the ribeye roast are within 5 degrees of temperature. They’ll rest for 20-30 minutes and then get a reverse sear.
Funeral potatoes are in the crock pot. Pork sausage stuffing just went in the oven.
Still deciding whether to make pots de creme (it’s going to be a LOT of food).
If the question is Creme Pots, the answer is always yes.
Did the spiral ham that has been in the freezer for, oh, quite some time. It was delicious. Mashed sweet potato with toasted walnuts, and sauteed & stewed green beans (which were actually leftovers so only needed reheating). A couple of glasses of pinot noir, then I’ll be hitting the tea with lemon, honey and brandy because I’ve got some crap in my sinuses/throat.
Turns out I have no brandy, so Irish whiskey will have to do.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to Glibdom. Spent the morning with the wife, finished off the advent calendar chocolate, and now off to dinner with the in-laws.

Santa came to visit while the wife and I were away. Puccini managed to snag a pic with him, though.
We’ll be doing steaks on the grill tonight (NY strip for my father in law, a thick ribeye for the missus and I to split) with carrots, mushrooms, asparagus, and spuds. Nice, quiet family evening.
The in-law Christmas dinner at our house just finished. Fabulous food, wine, and music.
I grilled steaks and shrimp, Mrs. Time made shaved brussel sprout salad, and our guests brought wine and potatoes.
Just Dad and I here. I had an Albariño with my turkey.
Merry Christmas everybody! Mrs DenverJ has hernia surgery tomorrow, so yay!
Hawt.
Wait, Mrs DenverJ? Congratulations!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to our band of misfit toys!
Tomorrow morning I’m having a “Cardioversion” procedure done in an attempt to get my a fib under control. At least I get to sleep through it — propofol: if it’s good enough for Michael Jackson, it’s good enough for me 😂
Best wishes to Mrs DenverJ and any others of you & yours dealing with the medical-pharmaceutical complex!

Oh, yes please! The sooner they put me under, the better for all concerned.
On a different note, anyone know what’s up with TriggerHippy or C. Anacreon? Or any of our other strays?
Dr. Chet posted on a mailing list formed from the wreckage of The Old Site this past weekend.
Ah, good to hear. I had a faint, & quite possibly imaginary, recollection that his cancer was once again being troublesome.
Merry Christmas freaks!
Somehow I managed to get my first cold in years on fucking vacation lol. I will say that recuperating while listening to the ocean crash is better then it could be. Still, I’ve been good this year, Santa. You motherfucker!
What about the rest of us?
Ah sorry. Santa fucked you over too?
The Dylan flick is a very well-made hagiography for what folk of that era, depicting how they (want to) imagine Bob Dylan was like in the early ’60s. The acting is remarkable, especially the Frenchman playing Bob. Damn. The movie shows the story folk wanna see, of an asshole who still is somehow likable enough to win girls and supporters, alike’. (Why the fuck are you staying with him, Sylvia? What reason? Huh? Yet she does.) There is no ‘conclusion’ cuz it ends in 1965 and Dylan is still fucking living. The movie really has no ending – no internal conclusion.
Had a fun Movies chat with Mom about it. She has the same reservations I do. It was really good. ‘It’ doesn’t have much of a point. If any. (‘Go out and be You. Not what all ‘Those Other People’ want you to be” is about the best ‘point’ the movie makes. But duh, only if you’re actually talented and luck out with the right time/place. Helps to be cute.”)
My avatar is on point. I’m pleased it fooled even my brother; he thought it was me. Helps I go as Bob Dylan every Halloween. I got the hair along with the look – add a jacket, sunglasses and I’m good to go. Yes, the movie had me thinking about myself. I’m human.
lol He’s an American. The new young hotness that’s everywhere lately.
Same kid from the Dune flicks. He seems quite capable.
“Timothée Chalamet” is French. And very talented.
Damn, Mom and I had fun with the Frenchness of his name. I’d hate to be his fiance. Add all accents necessary for full effect.
He grew up in NYC.
He’s dual national and bilingual. But culturally at least as American as he is French.
Born and mostly raised in the U.S. That makes him American in my book.
I don’t buy into “dual citizenship” nonsense.
But culturally at least as American as he is French.

Do yourself a favor and not listen to the second song. It was always overplayed and when used as a tribute to HRC it killed for me-forever.

But yeah O Holy Night is my favorite actual carol.
I would have guessed this was your favorite carol.

… one of Asia’s more stable democracies, taking advantage of pervasive corruption in the country
There’s something odd about that sentence – as in how could the inherent contradiction be so easily stated?
It’s a form of stability. No violent rebellions, just a lot of bribery and abuse of authority.
A tale:
Happy Hanukkah to everyone, both ((())) and ((()))^-1! As one of (((them))), I can see the some of the distrust (((we))) have toward Christian symbols, especially those of my grandparents’ generation, but I personally love Christmas. This isn’t only because my maternal grandparents remained Christians (my mom converted) and we always had wonderful memories at their home in the high plains of far Eastern New Mexico but because the Christians took (((our))) amateur hour ethics and went pro. Without the Western European Christians (especially the soggy forebearers of the British Isles), there is no Magna Carta, no BoR and no Western freedom as we know it.
Reading through that screed about India yesterday, I feel acutely the debt of gratitude we all owe to those pale drunkards whose innovations we owe in no small part to Christianity. Of course it’s not perfect, but let’s all raise a glass to the tale of Redemption and an understanding of humanity’s imperfection, predicated on its desire for forgiveness and grace.
Rebels, throw your fists in the air; hotties, throw your tits in the air!
We also have Christians to thank for bacon, shrimp cocktail, and cheeseburgers.
I think Bacon is older than that.
“…Western European Christians (especially the soggy forebearers of the British Isles), there is no Magna Carta, no BoR and no Western freedom as we know it.”
As we speak their progeny is trashing all of that as fast and hard as they can.
