You may recall that last week I said this one is going to be bad? I may be been exaggerating, it’s only the first part of the week that’s going to be that terrible. Yes we’ve still got Venus retrograde being a witch (and not in a Glinda/Samantha Stevens/Cho Chang as played by Grace Park kind of witch). And yes it’s still aligned with Mercury for extra fuckery. And can you guess what happens on Monday to make it extra, extra fuckery?
So yeah, expect all sorts of shenanigans on Monday. The good thing is that the alignment breaks up the next day, so it won’t be as acutely bad. Still sufficiently shitty though.
Aries: 6 of Coins – Presents, gifts, gratification attention, vigilance, people seeking favors
Taurus: 9 of Coins reversed – Roguery, deception, voided project, bad faith.
Gemini: Judgement –
Cancer: 9 of Swords reversed – Imprisonment, suspicion, doubt, reasonable fear, shame.
Leo: 6 of Swords – Journey by water, route, way, envoy, commissionary, expedient.
Virgo: King of Swords reversed – Cruelty, perversity, barbarity, perfidy, evil intention. Someone with political power actively being a dick. Moreso than usual, I mean.
Libra: 2 of Cups – Love, passion, friendship, affinity, union, concord, sympathy.
Scorpio: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion, dolor.
Sagittarius: 8 of Coins reversed – Voided ambition, vanity, cupidity, exaction, usury.
Capricorn: 10 of Wands – Oppression; but it is also fortune, gain, any kind of success, and then it is the oppression of these things. It is also a card of false-seeming, disguise, perfidy. Also troubles arriving or the bringing of troubles.
Aquarius: Ace of Cups – House of the true heart, joy, content, abode, nourishment, abundance, fertility; Holy Table, felicity.
Pisces: 3 of Wands – Established strength, enterprise, effort, trade, commerce, discovery.
Let’s get this Venus-driven shitshow started!
(and not in a Glinda/Samantha Stevens/Cho Chang as played by Grace Park kind of witch)
“Be gone, before somebody drops a house on YOU.”
Sagittarius: 8 of Coins reversed – Voided ambition, vanity, cupidity, exaction, usury.
I’m going to win the lottery?
Amusing bit about your namesake that came up from a FB friend. A post praising Anson Burlingame – this from a CA liberal Dem (and of course the party labels were scrubbed), and then I went to read up about Brooks and how he resigned from Congress so his constituents could re-elect him, and shortly thereafter he died from a severe bout of croup (and before there was any chance he’d have to take the field for the Confederate Army). There is something pleasing about a politician dying without being able to utter any dying words.

You mean like John F Kennedy?
It was all in his head.
No, some of it was on Jackie.

Looks like I’ll be opening the door (and mail) around house Imprudent this week.
“ Cancer: 9 of Swords reversed – Imprisonment, suspicion, doubt, reasonable fear, shame.”
I have extra handcuff keys. I’m not worried.
“Imprisonment, suspicion, doubt, reasonable fear, shame.””
So, pretty much like being a regular here
I’d zero your browser cache, just to be on the safe side…
he resigned from Congress so his constituents could re-elect him
I have not made a great study of it, but the version I recall is that he was expelled from Congress and his constituents held a special election and stamped “return to sender” on him and shipped him right back to DC.
No, the attempt to expel him failed, so he resigned – knowing he’d be re-elected. So we know the phenomenon of voters being idiots is nothing new.
The problem always is that someone is going to be elected/re-elected. Doesn’t much matter who or the party.
I wish they’d elect more reps that would beat the shit out of senators.
That what’s called senior abuse.
the phenomenon of voters being idiots is nothing new
They are, for the most part anyway, people…
Not any smarter when they’re dead either.
Stuff and nonsense
The anti-Delaware sentiment has at least some political motivations. While aligning themselves with President Donald Trump, executives like Musk and Ackman are trying to publicly undermine what they describe as “activist judges” who have issued rulings they found disagreeable.
“Activist judges” is just a tired old right wing trope. Judges are by definition impartial and scrupulously apolitical.
Now do Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas.
Aquarius: Ace of Cups – House of the true heart, joy, content, abode, nourishment, abundance, fertility; Holy Table, felicity.
That’s not so bad…
It means you’rew going to be marched up to an altar and have your heart ripped out so that the gods will bring good harvests.
Hey Grummun, to answer your question from the dead thread, if all you need is 1G ports and PoE, I recommend just buying a used Cisco switch off ebay.
used Cisco switch off ebay
Based mostly/solely on price? Or you have a bad experience with Ubiquiti?
Somewhat invested in Ubiquiti- unless you’re going to invest in their entire ecosystem, it’s overkill for a single switch. They do have quirks when you go all in.
They do have quirks when you go all in.
I’d be interested in hearing about the quirks. I’m not-very-seriously looking at their video recorder, and I need at least one more AP.
Based mostly on price although they likely have more features than Ubiquiti as well.
I do have bad experiences with larger networks that have multiple Ubiquiti switches, but if you’re just getting one it should be ok.
Baffling
It may seem crazy out there, but small business owners are feeling fine. According to PNC Bank, 78% are optimistic about prospects this year, near the 23-year high mark. The banking platform Bluevine reported last week that small business confidence had “surged” and is “higher than ever”. A recent index from the National Federation of Independent Businesses shows small business optimism is rising across industries, led by manufacturing, and that overall sentiment is at historical highs.
Do these people not read the news?
Donald Trump’s will he/won’t he threat to impose tariffs on the US’s biggest trading partners has stock markets reeling. We’re told that mass deportations will squeeze an already tight labor market. Small businesses and non-profits that work on government-funded projects are facing cashflow shortages thanks to his freeze on payments, while vast numbers of government workers who use local small businesses for everything from dry cleaning to getting pizza are finding themselves unemployed. Economists are predicting that our economy will contract – contract! – next quarter.
This all seems like bad news for a small business owner. And yet … optimism. Why?
Maybe they have gotten wise to media panicmongering. Maybe they think the government is their enemy and see any attempt to rein in the bureaucracy as a net positive. Maybe professional Wall Street traders and economists are not representative of the economy at large.
We’re getting a brand new truck delivered on Monday.
“Some Assembly Required?”
Sorta. Needs equipment and shelving mounted. Needs decals applied and our go to place just closed up for retirement.
Steekers? We don’t need no steenking steekers!
Pepperidge Farm remembers when the left treasured Main Street over Wall Street.
I wonder what happened.
Main Street vs. Wall Street, real world production economy vs. financialization.
Business owners are also optimistic because in Trump they see someone like themselves: transactional, profit-driven, impatient with workers who don’t work hard, critical of bureaucracy that kills productivity. And, like so many successful business owners and entrepreneurs I know, he’s a fighter. He also clearly loves being the boss and enjoys doing what he’s doing.
Clinton, Bush, Obama and Biden were all career politicians. Trump now has political experience too. But he’s still a businessman at heart. To him, everything’s a deal. Agree with him or not, love him or hate him, small business owners, at the very least, understand him. Still – it’s going to be a disruptive four years.
You don’t say.
How did that get into the Guardian?
LOL
“Taurus: 9 of Coins reversed – Roguery, deception, voided project, bad faith.”
I don’t resemble those descriptors this week. Finished my 5-2 shift and have tomorrow off for a doc appointment. Orthopedist. Gonna have my titanium looked at, my 13 and 11yo hips. I’ll also bring up that latent 5mm kidney stone that was detected a few months back. (I wanna think my body just *ate* it. ) That means I get to wake up 4-5 hours later tomorrow, rather than my normal (now) 3:30am.
‘Voided project’ and ‘bad faith’ don’t align with me at the momo, and roguery and deception are Neddy No-Nos for work, and of course a person like me would never even think of dreaming about using *deception*…
As for roguery? My new piece has found a solid first draft. But it’s *kinda* all about me (and some others here as well) being roguish by nature, with different careers and ‘odd’ places lived.
‘Twice’ is my K-Pop girl-group of record. (‘They’ have two catchy, pop-as-fuck songs. Read: Had constructed for them and were likely horrifically abused to get their spot on the roster.) Mia and I have a fervent history.
Scorpio: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion, dolor.
Well, I found out today that the mom of a family that my family knew in the Air Force passed away last week. She was 77, which to me is a a bit on the younger side of “Well, she had a good run.” I was between 4 and 6 when our families were neighbors stationed at Plattsburgh AFB in upstate NY. My parents and they kept in touch for the rest of her life. Sucks.
