You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell ’em that God’s gonna cut ’em down
Tell ’em that God’s gonna cut ’em down
Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head’s been wet with the midnight dew
I’ve been down on bended knee talkin’ to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel’s feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, “John go do My will!”
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell ’em that God’s gonna cut ’em down
Tell ’em that God’s gonna cut ’em down
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
You can run on for a long time

Every now and then, OMWC drinks juuust enough to come up with genius.
Agreed. This is great. And that is a great frigging song.
During a rally at a high school in the New Hampshire state capital of Concord on Sunday, Warren declared, “It’s up to you, Massachusetts.”
New Hampshire isn’t North Massachusetts yet.
Dunno. When I left it was like Brroks likes to say about Bozeman and Montana.
In Nashua, New Hampshire is only twenty minutes away.
There are folks that want to turn the place into North Massachusetts.
But Maine still is, right?
-1820
57 states is a lot to remember.
“Four Endangered Gorillas Killed’
Sorry, but those four aren’t endangered any more.
I read that as “engendered” at first. ?
So you mis-gendered the gorillas.
Yes. Yes, I did. And I’d do it again, too!
That Sinema thing- fuckers closed off the park we tried to go to yesterday for hiking. Fuck that cunte with barbed wire.
Why do you hate Sinema? Could the answer be found in Article 1, section 3.3?
3: No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.
No, they really did close down a park in account of a marathon she happened to be running.
Not specifically on her account.
Do they usually close down the park for marathons? I’ve done a couple of supported rides where we had random people join us, and I’ve been out for a ride before and ran into random supported rides.
I honestly don’t know. Marathoners are not a crowd I normally run with.
Depends. Usually they don’t close down trails, but they will substantially divert traffic for the street portions of the race. That said, Rock N Roll tends to find the most obnoxious way to do things.
Sinema = would
Yeah, she’s hot.
I’d rather just do her the old fashioned way.
Bad Arizona!, you’re a Bad State! go sit in the corner!

This is why I spend my weekends here. Glibs Staff prepares the best links with good music.
It doesn’t leave the drivers with the most direct route—it requires them to cross through the Upper Midwest and the Rockies—but the Tesla team hopes to make it coast to coast in less than three days.
Do they charge money for these charging stations? (honest question) They have one at the mall in the “big city” closest to me with five or so charging stations. I have only seen one car charging there but I don’t go to the “big city” all that often anymore.
Glibs Staff prepares the best links with good music.
Why, Thank you!
Um Gottes willen.
Eine vereinte Welt, unter Gott
Youre not staff Ted, you are Ted.
How do you know the S. isn’t for staff?
His linked music is usually cringe worthy?
Its’ not Ted. Its’ Ted’S damn it.

Represent!
Joe, meet the Taliban. Taliban, this is Joe.
I’ve been hit by Lightning, 480 Volts worth, not counting lower voltages,
Good times…
HOWDY!
Recently?
as recently as June I believe, I’ve been shocked too many times to count,
and I’m done doing that work, age and the odds are running up
So have I, but lightning is a wee bit more than 480, no?
Absolutely, but it is lightning, and we humans don’t do excessive voltage well, 48 VDC will kill the fuck out of you,
/old telecom voltage
.1 amperes will stop your heart
According to the safety gurus 50V is “safe”. MS below mentions .1 Amp, the threshold is (if I recall) 50 mA. Skin resistance is about 50k ohms so 50V would only yield 1 mA.
You go first….
Done it. Former coworker, ex Navy, said that the outlets on the ship were +/- 50V for safety. (Shrugs) never had a problem with it.
POTS line amperage is 20mA, which you don’t really feel. Now when ringing voltage (90VAC) is applied on a line…
At higher amperages, -48VDC is just like higher frequency voltages. I’ve seen metal turned to plasma on an accidental short. That was only protected by a 5A fuse if i recall correctly.
+/-130 out of a repeater bites a bit.
A mig welder is only 12-50 volts. But they really push the amps. Which is why properly sized breakers is so important.
I was disassembling a bunch of work benches that had long power strips along the backsplash one long night. I had been using a lamp to test the circuits, even though I was assured that the power was off. On the 4th bench, I was just about to unscrew the wiring when I paused and said… let me just check this to be sure. So I tapped my screwdriver across the contacts…. It instantly welded tight in a shower of sparks.
It stayed stuck there, sputtering and plasma spewing everywhere. I quickly grabbed a board and whacked the screwdriver away. The current from that 110 line cut a large screwdriver right in half. Molten metal flying all around the area. The breaker never tripped – on a 15 amp circuit.
Scared the crap out of me. Turns out, the lamp had burned out at some point after the first time I tested it. And something was wrong with the breaker. I was pulling all-you-can-eat current from the supply to a huge hospital building. Woulda cooked me like a roast pig.
That’s terrifying.
Even though I don’t do electrical stuff all that much, that Fluke current tester I have is among the best $25 I’ve ever spent.
We need a Back to the Future gif here.
1.21 Gigawatts!
That’s how you got super powers yes?
Yep.
On a previous job, the guy who wired our machines (not even a licensed electrician) was green red colorblind.
Guess which color wires are most common in 480 volt wiring?
Black, red, green, green, orange, gray? They come in all sorts of colors.
Not red, Try Yellow Orange Brown that’s 277/480
Red blue black is 220/240/208
and black white for 120, Green is always ground, white is always common,
You can pay me for the lesson later,,,
If it was installed right, you can look at he colors and know what voltage they are,
Troubleshooting FTW!
Don’t go by the color, get a Fluke meter.
….or don’t, its not my responsibility what you do.
Dude, I’m a fucking pro, always put a meter on it, Electricians are Stupid and contractors are cheap Bastards,
I don’t take risk, but still get hit sometimes
I’m actually tripping out you would say that to Me, you don’t ever read anything i post?
I’m not an HVAC guy?
you do you,,,,,
Not directed at you, more for a rando that sees it and says, “Oh, this one is _____, by definition it therefore has no voltage on it.”
Hah, my house begs to differ.
Your house was wired a long time ago, or by hackers, or both
I”M A MECHA-NICKLE ENGINEER! Not a sparky!
220, 222, whatever it takes
{thanks for the lesson}
When I was a power supply engineer I used to spec power supplies for 480V rather than 240V. Either will kill you in an instant but, for the former, the power cords are lighter in weight.
Voltage up, amp draw down, wire size down as well,

So far the gameplay is fine. But I have a couple suggestions. 1) slutty cheerleaders. 2) I appreciate trying something new with the p.a.t. rule, but I think it would be better to just do away with the p.a.t.
I’m liking the immediate interviews with coaches and players about plays right after they happen.
It won’t surprise anyone here that Shorty Bloomberg is a meglomaniac PoS, but at least he’s not trying to hide it. He knows who the Top Man is.
“Speaking to an audience at Oxford University and addressing the Brexit vote, Bloomberg said, “We, the intelligentsia, the people who could make it into this room, we believe a lot of things in terms of equality and protecting individual rights that make no sense to the vast bulk of people.”
“They are not opposed to you having some rights, but there’s a fundamental disconnect between us believing the rights of the individual come first and the general belief around the world, I think it’s fair to say, that the rights of society comes first,” Bloomberg continued.”

*irony meter pegged*
Seriously, the absolute fucking shamelessness blows my mind. Mike fucking Bloomberg standing up talking about how he fights for the rights of the individual.
Interesting position.

“I know better than the peasants, so fuck ’em”.
I’ll add that this asshat has been running commercials touting a desire to unite and save America. American was founded on the premise of individual rights and the government is designed around this premise. So kindly fuck off.

Most the article is from a Chinese immigrant doctor. Very scary shit.
Karma has decided that China needs a good bitch slapping.
Or a good Zardoz cleansing.
Whycome karma takes it out on the little people and not the ChiCom Top Men?
And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me. And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
2 Samuel 24: 10-14
lol ur weird
Hah! Yeah, that was one of the bible stories which really struck me as, umm, weird. If you take the biblical narrative, David fucks up and then God allows the plague to kill 70k men in order to teach David a lesson.
I think the Top. Men. are going to feel this one.
Now’s the time to suggest letting Taiwan join the WHO.
Yes, that.
There was a good Pacific Century podcast out last week about the current situation in China.

They should’ve said 2030 or something. If you’re going to make things up at least make them sound better.
Especially since the world will end by then.
Realistically, if the fiscal structure can survive the Boomers dying off, there’s a chance. But it’s like a deer lodged in the throat of a python. Or a really big fucking kidney stone.

“I want to slash spending!”
“Here is my 4.8 trillion budget”
If we could all just learn to enjoy being fucked by the Feds we could finally have utopia.
So Democrats pretend to care about war when a Republican is in charge and Republicans pretend to care about the deficit when a Democrat is in charge.
I’m seriously scared about what’s going to happen when we max out the credit card, because we’re not far off.
My college econ classes, I believe one of the professors said that the tipping point was generally when the deficit hit around 150% of GDP (or maybe that was the national debt). Japan was the primary example at the time.
This is why its pointless to support any R or D.
In my lifetime, the dollar will become valueless because of the federal debt.
Everyone puts their blinders on and supports their preffered politician, but whether we vote for socialist or a capatilist, it doesnt matter. It doesnt matter because because our country is bankrupt and the reprecussions of 100 years of fiscal irresponsibility are going to hit the american econony hard.
Keep your powder dry, gentlemen. Trump getting reelected in 2020 isnt going to ignite intercine warfare, but economic collapse will.
the dollar will become valueless because of the federal debt
I don’t think this is well-understood. The value of the dollar (anything/everything) is based on demand, and The Debt is “priced into” the price level. You are already paying, every day, for the debt. There is no free lunch: we are all being marked to the market constantly; you pay the piper for every dance as we go.
I’m not dismissing the possibility that some later-day panic that might destroy the dollar: there are a hundred vectors that might achieve that, of which, a fear of Federal debt is the least likely. To the extent that irrational exuberance explains some supposed dollar bubble, there are a hundred drivers of that as well: you will never tire of listing ways the American economy and its ensign might collapse.
^This, up to a point. It is priced in, and we are paying for the debt in slowed growth rates and mild price inflation (which we disguise/offset in several ways). If you look at the past 35-40 years we averaged the typical 2-4% per annum growth. BUT that took place while a revolutionary economic event, the rise of the computer and all that came with it, was blazing onto the scene which masked the slowed growth from debt. The problem comes when something additional, which will inevitably occur, stresses the economy. Economically we are Hercules, and carrying a big heavy weight just slows us down from the godlike level to the mortal.
But the weight gets heavier, and we seem bent on giving up the things that give us our strength.
I am pessimistic by nature and get angry about things, but honestly any remotely even handed look at history shows that we are living in the greatest golden age ever, in the greatest place to enjoy that age. We are Atlantis. There is not, and has never been a better place and time materially. There are people seriously looking to destroy all of that in favor of a mythical equity, but there have always been people of one stripe or another who wanted to destroy prosperity in service to their idiotic faith. Are we safe from a collapse? No. Do I think one will eventually come? Yes, because the ratchet keeps clicking the window leftward. But it will be culture driven not the debt. The biggest reason I see for cutting spending is what the money is spent on, not the amounts. If they want to spend 5 Trillion building nifty monuments or on some other potlach I’d go along with it, but they spend it creating bureaucratic fiefdoms that keep clicking that ratchet toward equity and away from liberty.
I think you need a Snickers bar.
Dinner tonight: Gruyere stuffed burger patty topped with caramelized onion and mushroom cream sauce.
Needs moar kale.
?
?
There was some kale discussion last night. I’m just kidding.
Walmart gave me frozen kale instead of frozen spinach since they were out. I guess this week is kale week.
Sucks to be you!
As I said in another thread, regular salt/pepper (or whatever spices you like) and butter with kale in a skillet fixes kale.
Butter, salt and pepper will fix even lutefisk.
Fun fact! Kale was domesticated from the same species of mustard plant as: brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower.
That explains a lot.
Holy shit–it really does.
Smoked chicken, pulled apart and put in a salad with some kind of vinaigrette my wife made, which is excellent.
Hard to beat.
That sounds good. And easier than what I am doing.
I’m reading some collected works of Frank Belknap Long. I’m just not getting into it. Am I missing something?
This is the book https://smile.amazon.com/Golden-Age-Weird-Fiction-Belknap/dp/1479423262
This post is based on a Johnny Cash song so I feel obligated to recommend some Louis Lamoure.
Think I’ve read one or two of his stories in Lovecraft-inspired collections, but I’d have to check. Name is familiar enough, but other than that….
Was thinking he might have been the “King in Yellow” author. Some of the turn-of the century weird writers had a couple unique stories, but few of them were as consistent as Lovecraft, Howard and a few others (ie. WH Hodgson).
I like Lovecraft, Hodgson, Smith, etc. I haven’t read any Howard yet.
The King in Yellow was Chambers. I haven’t read that yet either.
For Howard, you *must* start with the Del Rey illustrated classics (most of which are now in audiobook format too). Excellent collections with really good accompanying art – old school format. Solomon Kane, 3 vols of Conan, Kull, Bran Mak Morn, El Borak, Sword Woman, “Horror Stories” (relistening to this one right now) and “Best of REH” (2 vols).
I’ll check later, there’s a few good collections I have from another publisher as well including some of his “American” stories (not all collected in the same places) and some other ones.
I’m kind of enjoying the XFL right now. It’s fun to listen to coaches talking.

the book was good, the movie….
I don’t know if any of you have ever followed the Liberty Hangout website/twitter account, but has someone nefarious taken over or have they gone insane? They went from ancap 18 months ago to (apparently, completely seriously) calling for Trump to be appointed as King.
And…?
>They went from ancap 18 months ago to (apparently, completely seriously) calling for Trump to be appointed as King.
I mean, its like a real life Song of Ice and Fire.
Trump is Robert Baratheon, Don Jr and Eric are like Renly and Stannis, Baron is Joffrey, Melania is Cersei.
AFAIK, Barron has never murdered a hooker.
That was just in the TV show. In the books everyone is younger (Which is why they were aged up for the TV show. The scenes with Sansa in the books are really fucked up because of how young she is), and Joffreys most fucked up act is cutting open a pregnant cat because he wanted to see the kittens. Robert slaps him upside the head for it.
In what sense is the banana republic we’re living in today superior to a monarchy with King Donald?
Turns out one of my golfing chums plays guitar, since it was real windy, we decided to play a bit, oops, poor man has know idea what he’s doing, but his Voice! I have never heard such an airy, soft voice coming from a 60 year old man, impressive. But he sucked on the guitar, so we spent the afternoon going over basic theory, and kind of helped him up, We are going take some of hjis material and shape them into songs, he writes well, just ignorant of what he’s doing, I’ll fix that. Then it dawned on me, why am I not playing? going to open mic nights, begging the Az Glibs to jam, I really am as good as everyone always told me, I’m just shy that way,

Know idea? what a Maroon……
Is it possible for anyone born before, say, 1985 to see the words “what a maroon” and not hear them in Bugs Bunny’s voice?
I should hope not.
Fortunately, my Daughter does, and She Loves Lucy

So one of my buddies is getting a mill and some tools and wants to prep a bunch of lowers before the boogaloo. I’ve already got a 5.56 AR I’m happy with…but the option of alternative calibers is interesting. I was thinking maybe 6.3…but he says what he has will work with 308, 300 Blackout, 5.56 and 7.62.
Any reason I would want 300 blackout? I’m leaning towards 7.62 if I can find a discounted model….unless anyone has another suggestion?
“Any reason I would want 300 blackout?”
So you can pretend to be on Seal Team Six?
7.62×39 for cheap ammo. With a pistol brace and an 11.5″ barrel.

That works exactly as well as notifying the judge that he doesn’t have jurisdiction because his courtroom has a gold fringe on its flag.
Hah! I plan on shouting “Taxation is theft!” as they drag me away in chains.
*DDGs “solvent trap”*
That looks very handy for cleaning. I haven’t yet seen an explanation for how they attach to the barrel, though.
My lecture to clients:
Think of the entire world this way. You are 12, you and your best buddy have just hatched the greatest plot ever hatched in the history of Saturday afternoon. Your buddy stops yjust before you light the fuse/roll the boulder down the scree field/put the car in gear/step onto the skateboard on the garage roof and says, dude “What about when your Mom get’s home” you reply with a well thought out, seemingly plausible, and absolutely sure to persuade her “explanation” that will cover all possible traces that may be left from the plot. You light/roll/drive/step and nature takes its course.
Mom comes home, and you are now standing in the kitchen about to launch into your excuse. How did that go for you?
Now, imagine that the Judge who will be trying the case is your Mom, and your ‘legal’ theory is the excuse, and grounded has changed into raped by aids carriers for the next 10 years. How confident are you in that excuse?
*stops “solvent trap” internet search*
I won’t even make eye contact with them at gun shows.
I’m rather partial to .308 (7.62×51) The ammo is cheaper than .300. $.25 per round vs. $.43 per round. But I’m a skinflint.
If this is really for the boogaloo, you’l want to be able to make use of whatever ammo you can find. So pick ones that are also compatible with pistol calibers. There’s some odd cross-compatibility between 9mm and .458 SOCOM.
Is there a 358 SOCOM? I don’t know what this all means, but 9 / 25.4 ~ 0.36
IDK, one of the guys at Steel Challenge is running a 9mm PCC using a 5.56 lower, CMMG endomags, and .458 SOCOM parts. Maybe the BCG is the correct weight and size to run in a 9mm upper? He’s also printing all his own polymer parts.
Like I said, he’s limited to those 4 calibers at the moment. I’ll look for a 7.62 variant at PSA/Classic Firearms.
Thanks.
If it’s just lowers, you can get almost everything you need with 5.56, 7.62×39 and .308 NATO.
.458 socom.
Cuz $2+ per round ammo is fun to stack deep.

WRT the XFL-
I hope Godell is sitting back lamenting how much ad revenue he’s missing out on, and that they could be a (nuisance) threat to the NFL and player’s union. Kinda like a 3rd party.
I’d love to see the Neilsen ratings for how much they pulled in yesterday and today.
Well, with Trump in the White House this is the time to strike against the NFL, Trump will pull no favors for them on the fed level.
Nah, the timing of the new XFL season shows the role they’re going to play: they’re a semi pro league for guys who are out of school to put game tape out there, working with NFL coaches, in a legit offense.
NFL free agency opens halfway through the XFL season, and the NFL draft is the three days before the XFL Championship game. So after NFL free agency in March, and then the draft in April, then you will see NFL teams picking and plucking guys they like based on what they did in the XFL season.
It might turn into something more down the line, but right now, that’s how they survive and thrive: give people a little more football, because people love football, and be a path to or back into the NFL for the bubble guys.
They must not have much hype. I hadn’t even heard of the XFL until last week.
I heard about them yesterday. Slept through half a game today. I enjoyed it.
hopefully my house doesn’t start on fire tonight, smoke alarm started the dead battery chirp, no fresh 9 volts in the house. As noted with my comment about electrical wiring, my house could randomly burn down at any time according to ‘certified electricians’. Scam artists…
Pull the main and sit in the dark. Its the only sure way.
And the alarm will keep chirping every 5 minutes. In the dark.

Flaming Pile of Garbage Surges in New 2020 Poll
BALTIMORE – A burning trash heap emerged today as the new Democratic front-runner. Pundits agreed that it holds several key advantages over its competitors, including not brazenly lying for decades about its ancestry, being kicked out of a hippy commune for being too lazy, or being caught on camera sniffing the hair of little girls. However, the candidate has had a hard time distinguishing itself from Michael Bloomberg.
Should have gone with ‘plastic bag floating in the breeze’, thanks to that molesty Spacey movie everyone can imagine that campaign ad.
Not a bad sound track tho’.
Then you could even add a bit how the Dems are trying to block the plastic bag from winning the nomination with all those bans.
Eh, I basically just ripped off the Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich joke.

But where’s Aunt Rosie?
I remember her doing a ching-chong joke years ago. She got in some hot water for that. I found it amusing that for once, it was the Chinese who were angry about a low-quality imitation of something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmv04yKG-po
she did the national anthem at a ball game, and grabbed her crotch at the end like ballplayers do and much offence followed,
Who would ask Rosie to do that?
You’ve had some great ones. This one was a little too obvious. Keep throwing them up!
Thanks for the feedback. I liked the title a lot, but couldn’t flesh it out.
Random memory – I remember an aspiring comic I met at a lot of open mics. He bombed over and over, but kept trying. One night, he told a great joke and it was a true joy to see him kill it for once. I forget the premise of the joke, but the punchline was “so I put Elmo back in the freezer.” It was some kind of pun, but damn it was funny.
I’ve tried to reverse engineer the joke, but such tricknology is beyond my ken.
My guess is that you could’ve made another turn or two. Something like, “Smoldering bag of dog shit places second in Iowa. Fully lit bag of monkey feces takes top spot.”
Good song to listen to on an easy Sunday night. Busy Monday morning? Not so much.
Weekends are a cruel joke, wanna make money? work 7 days a week, it’s all arbitrary Bullshit we use to keep track of things,

It took me a couple decades to realize this was not the original.
The B 52’s were from a better time. A time when stoners, dorks, geeks, Chads, Staceys, Tyrones, Latifas, Juans, Kumikos and Adolphs could enjoy the same music and not have to call themselves “allies”. 90’s were the peak of Western civilization.
Heh you’re not wrong.

I’m watching “Cheer” on Netflix. The team profiled is pretty close to a cult. I think it’s fucked up what those kids are doing to their bodies for their coach’s ego. I am biased as I knew a woman who died (broken neck) in a cheer accident. She fell during a pyramid practice and it wasn’t nearly as extreme as what the Navarro team does.
I really enjoyed that series. I loved the coach – her complex character is very interesting…. christian, LGBTQ advocate, Cheer Nazi…. The whole thing was fantastic.
There was the athletics aspect – the training, passion and work that goes in to being the best was on full display. The contrast of tiny young women suffering injuries normally reserved for football players was powerful.
And I agree with your take on the danger. When I was in college a beautiful young friend fell from the top of a pyramid and suffered a serious brain injury when they didn’t catch her and her head hit the basketball court. They were nationally competitive at the time and the University dropped the competition aspect immediately, banning anything more higher than 1 cheerleader holding up another.
In Cheer, the risks they were taking in practice really seemed excessive. Which, of course, is part of what made for such an intriguing documentary. There was one fall in practice that was horrifying. Because of the time they took to place it in context before it happened, the impact of watching it was intense.
If you like sports, competition, or just human interest stories about people at the margins, I highly recommend this series.
OK–totally read that as “Cheers”, and thought Tulip was giving us a comedic psych profile of the bar patrons, there at the first.
“What are they doing for Coach…drinking beer? I don’t get it… I mean, that’s his livelihood.“
OT: Just tried to watch a recent Family Guy repeat on FOX. It took all of four minutes for them to start trashing hicks who like trucks and cigarettes, and because it’s Family Guy it goes on forever.
Fuck. Off.
Who else are comics allowed to mock?
I read that as Commies
Better shows mock everyone at some point, and in less-obviously spiteful ways.
Oh, I agree I just wonder how much of the hick bashing you see today is based in real hostility and how much is because any joke that mocks any one else gets you cancelled. Every trope about hicks is at least as applicable to other groups, but joking about Arab/Hispanic/Black inner city incest is racism. Have a joke about a dude persecuting gay people while buggering little boys? Better make it a white Catholic because talking about the boy game in the -stans is bigotry. It’s why South Park was so successful. They hit everyone and it was funny even when it was your group’s turn in the bucket.
“how much of the hick bashing you see today is based in real hostility”
Judging from Twitter, a lot.
And South Park never, ever apologizes.
Apologise for telling the truth? I won’t
Much.
Yeah, didn’t they apologize for something last year?
Haven’t watched in years but ISTR some bit about apologizing to Al Gore – could have been a joke though.
They made a whole episode repudiating the Manbearpig thing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AW4nSq0hAc
I did get a good laugh out of seeing Manbearpig in a business suit during the lawyer negotiation part.
Either the manatees went on strike again, or half the idea balls are “Trump”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyetbvrQjOs
LOL so true
That episode was epic.
Family Guy is disappointing. They clearly have good comedy chops, but have a pettiness that ruins their good work.
Family Guy has always been unwatchable to me. It’s so uncreative and hamfisted I can’t get into it.
Mostly that is true. However, there are episodes, like the one where Stewie and Brian time-travel back to the start of WWII that are simply brilliant.
I saw one recently that was a play on Agatha Christie/Clue etc. – it was really good. The Star Wars ones are a lot of fun, too.
I just caught a few episodes of Bob’s Burgers during one of TBS’s seemingly non-stop animation blocks that is mostly Family Guy or American Dad. Had never seen it before. It’s just better in every way.
H. Jon Benjamin is good at everything he does, except that time he had his own show.
Yep. Even that kids history show. Every time they watch it I keep waiting to hear a”what the shit” or something even worse.
^!^!^!
I like that it’s not mean.
I’ve said this before – everyone in the family is weird as all get out, but you can tell they love each other. Not so much with Family Guy.
My contribution to supporting BB…and, BR.
I love that shirt! I may just have to get one of those.
The sad thing is, it’s side-splitting hilarity compared to some woke comedy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0-fCn2ptvc
I never thought I’d see the day when CNN was funnier than a network with the word “comedy” in the title.
It’s cool you want to promote your new girlfriend and all, but …
Set up, reversal of expectation. That is a joke. What is contained in that clip is not a joke. Comedy itself and how that’s defined…m..maybe?
Another exhibit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut7KbFjtvmc
I don’t use the the words “female Dane Cook” lightly, but…
Bus, in Wisconsin? What? I don’t even get that. I mean, except if it was in Madison they were probably mad she was talking down about public transportation.
That seems anti woke to me. Unless she and the crowd doesn’t realize how crazy saying “not allowed” sounds.
sooooooo boring.
I’m surprised more women aren’t angry about terrible female comedians. If a female athlete was as bad as Amy Schumer or Lily Singh, there would be hell to pay.
Those two both made tons of money from comedy but…how?
They pander to woke audiences, just like George Carlin and Redd Foxx did. Simple! Barely an inconvenience!
The end of this Redd Foxx bit would trigger apoplexy in the Woke of today.

Fuck the 90s… there’s a case to be made that America peaked in the 70s.
You’d have to be still stoned from the seventies to make it though.
the 70s? Hm, let’s see:

#2 Quite fitting as I made taco filling tonight and there are like five kinds of “taco mix” in the pantry… I was like Mr. Burns trying to decide between catsup and ketchup. Also fitting that I eventually went with a little of all five, some jalapeno I found in the freezer and some sriracha sauce that lives in the fridge door. Pray for our Canadian/American colons!
Are you here to solve my ketchup problem?
Easy-peasy! HP sauce. You’re welcome.
Huh. Mushroom ketchup is a thing, apparently.
Mushroom ketchup was a thing before tomato ketchup.
Might as well be renamed to Staten-Generaal Sauce.
I’m enough of a nerd to even know that, C.
Bloomberg is Tweeting out Reagan speeches. I don’t understand the strategy.

Holding up Johnson, Dubya and Obama as examples of dignified leadership. Fuck mini mike.
“Lemme take a big ole dump with the door open during a Cabinet meeting!” Johnson or looming over Jackie in the blood-spattered dress Johnson? Seems pretty dignified to me.
Meh, it’s ‘iconic’ presidential speeches, juxtaposed against Trump talking off the cuff. Not showing anyone of those others at their worst is more the complaint one should raise. I mean, Trump’s deranged off the cuff sounds down right eloquent next to Obama’s stuttering when he got off script.
I’m thinking about the war criminal angle. Trump at least hasn’t started new, massive wars like Johnson and Dubya. JFK got our foot in Nam and Johnson stuck our cock all the way in.
Yeah, none of this is about policy. It’s about imagery.
You don’t wanna know the image that pops in my head when I see Johnson or Dubya.
No, I do not. I’m very prudish, not like your tentacle loving neighbors.
The whole thing is imagery and yet some buffoonish socialite managed to grasp that brass ring. It infuriates them to no end. That’s all the fun.
Shush you! He had the eloquence of Cicero, the flair of Lord Byron and the straight forwardness of a Twain or Rogers. HOW DARE YOU!

“That boy could have been my Son” is when he lost the election for Hillary.
Hillary lost it on all her own. He spent 8 years telling half the country they were too stupid and racist to understand him and he could have won a third term if the law allowed. This is where the progjection on Donnie Two Scoops being dictator for life comes in, because they would have done it if they could have.
“Basket of Deplorables” was the first warning sign. By the time she said “why aren’t I 50 points ahead?”, I was sure she was going to lose.
True enough but the President is supposed to remain above the fray. He started it with the beer summit and Trump is just carrying the torch. He shouldn’t have chosen a side but he did. Fuck him and fuck the lying fucks that enable that behavior on both sides.
Festus, I agree, see my point about the dignity of the office below; but this is why, I believe, the left is so scared of Trump becoming a dictator or cult leader or all the shit they’re saying, because they WOULD have done it themselves if they had the chance.

LBJ had a real way with words:
“These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don’t move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there’ll be no way of stopping them, we’ll lose the filibuster and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It’ll be Reconstruction all over again.
And now it’s raining…..
Rain is good in the desert, no?
Not when it’s cold, and I have weeds growing on my sand pile of property, I need some Heat to kill it off, otherwise I have to get some Roundup

And I gave a lot of thought to the topic of media bias and the screaming by “the Right” (let’s roughly call them) over what they see as “unequal treatment” for conservatives. I think it spawned another article on libertarian purity tests, so thank you to Hyperbole for that. Probably gonna take me a week to get it written.
That KDW article might be the best thing I’ve seen him write in quite some time. It’s an important point that needs to be made loudly and repeatedly. It hit me just right because I was doing some reading on Margaret Thatcher and I didn’t appreciate how bad England had sunk in the 70s. She probably saved that country and the modern Left fucking despises her. It’s unfortunate that Rand’s dystopian future is starting to look more and more like a “how to” manual, so she joins Orwell, Huxley, and the other satirists-as-prophets who yelled as loud as they could but went unheeded and then vilified by popular culture. Ditto for black conservatives, jurists, and economists.
Trains are still a bad idea.
Trains in and of themselves are not a bad idea. They are great cargo movers when you don’t have a sea underneath your route.
But, they can’t specialize or prioritize a route like a truck can. There is a reason rail transport fell off when trucking got deregulated.
Yeah, the taxes on the tracks made it hard to compete with anything on regular roads.
But then again they’re not mutually exclusive methods of transport.
*Intermodal containerization is a wonderful thing.
Subsidized interstate highways and jetports. Hudson County NJ’s property taxes each year on the railroads were higher than the fares paid by riders using the Hudson County stations.
Yup, the right tool for the right job.
Yeah, learning the truth about Maggie and how it was nothing like what I heard from so many of the musical artists I grew up listening to was eye-opening to say the least.
You and me both, Brother. Maggie was Baba Yaga on the punk/alternative scene.
The constrast betweeen the US and the UK after WWII is stark. We took off most of the depression and wartime controls while they doubled dowm. The Brits will say “we had to we’d been bombed;” The Germans had been bombed far, far worse and they were doing fine in the Seventies. The Brits had rationing until at least the Sixties.
For the car nuts – Brit auto factory workers worked on a piece-work basis. Picture and assembly line organized like that.
They did piecework when they weren’t on strike.
Industrial action was a constant thing too.
Zapruder- I see that, I was wrong. At least my track record of reading the mood ans social cues of 21 year old coeds remains intact.
Media bias etc…- I’ve thought of writing on that topic too, if for no other reason than to get my own ideas straight. I usually abandon the idea because all the contradictions and hypocrisy make my head hurt (and I’m not a very good writer). I look forward to reading your take on it.
I for one, see you as a thoughtful antagonist, and not just because you paid me to say that.
I am not a contrarian!
Late to the party as always. But, if y’all haven’t read this gem about media bias from Mencius Moldbug, may I be so bold as to suggest you may find it informative/entertaining? WHY THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS “LIBERAL MEDIA BIAS”
For any of you into classical music, this small independent label is the real deal.
I watched Thursdays episode of Last Man Standing tonight (it reminds me of my dad, so lay off) and they had a joke about having a van full of candy and meth to sway children, followed by a joke about not to make those jokes because the government is listening to all our devices. This just may be the glibertarian moment, we’ll need to poll some millennials to find out.
The wife watches that show from time to time. Tim Allen does a good job of it, and that line above isn’t the only one.
How good does end user audio gear have to be to notice the difference?
I wouldn’t listen to it on a car radio or for casual background, but on anything half-decent if you’re really listening to the music, it’s pretty evident. Nice performances, superb recordings. We’re currently listening to a piano transcription of Tannhauser.
Do you have your platinum earpieces firmly in place?
Hey OMWC! That kid from your morning post is the real deal.
Scary thing, I wonder if porn hub is tracking this site for trends. After OMWC did his Greta bit I saw ads on porn hub with a Greta look-a-like. Anyone who really wants to see that is either murderously masturbating to human death or violently abusing themselves while thinking of Trump. That is fucking disturbing.
No, but you’ve been added to yet another list.
That’s what women tell me all the time, I’m not sure what it means though…

Watched the last half of “Annihilation” last night. It was super creepy and as dumb as sticks. Enjoyable but dense. Beautiful to watch but plot-less. I give it Two Festus thumbs up outta three. It could have been so much more but the director decided that atmospherics and “scene” were more important than storytelling. If you like the lead actress you will probably like this movie. No boobage. Sorry fanbois.,..
Did Portman fall for the ‘Sand is course’ line again, ug, women, amiright?!
Well something did get into everything so you’re at least half right.
Hyo! Yes sah!
*takes a bow*
Beautiful to watch but plot-less
That’s pretty much how I felt about the book.
Never read it but was intrigued. It’s a trilogy.
I found it weird for weirdness sake – sort of a literary Myst – so I didn’t continue with the series.
A very good writer, just not writing something I want to read.
Ah.
Hadn’t heard of this – might check it out.
Harsh but fair.

Don’t even get me started on how the director’s guild fucked over Lucas, yet he still cow tows to the left for some fucking reason. Artists haven’t been known for their critical thinking skills.
Vincent van Gogh made over 2,000 paintings, but sold only 1 during his life.
He was still a great artist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Vineyard
***
The Red Vineyards near Arles is an oil painting by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, executed on a privately primed Toile de 30 piece of burlap in early November 1888. It depicts workers in a vineyard, and is believed to be the only painting van Gogh sold during his lifetime.
***
I went to the Van Gogh museum and came away with two things- the texture of his work is quite interesting and his work is mostly bland to crap.
But did they pronounce his name in the original Klingon?
It was featured news up here. Some no name wore the same tux to the Oscars that he donned thirty years ago. Wow! Get bent, asshole! I don’t need to yoga my way into the pants that I wore when I was thirty because I’m lucky and didn’t pick up the fat ass gene, I was born that way. Whatta cunte.
It’s worse than that – it was a custom made tuxedo, new this year. His great sacrifice is wearing that same tux more than once as opposed to getting a new one for every show.
Like that Aussie bloke who tried to show how sexist the viewing public was by wearing the same suit for months while his female co-anchor wore a different dress every day, except it wasn’t the male sexists who noticed, but instead the women watching that noticed?
lol woke fail
The whole point of “suits” is they all look the same. Oh, some men pretend otherwise but they’re kidding themselves.
after watching The Ozbourne’s’ I went with the Ozzy’s take; all my clothes are the same. Black shirt black pants, no one cares. My autistic mind used to have to worry about ‘when was the last time I wore this shirt, even though it’s washed can I wear it again or is it too soon…” All black everything all the time, no need to worry.
That is the exact point of today’s male dress – to fade into the background so the woman can shine.
I’ll take you’re word on that, being gay and all, I’m told your my fashion better.
FWIW, I dress like a slob and I don’t give a shit. Prefer any parter does, too.
One last thing before I
passoutwatch a documentary, Queer Eye for the Glib Guy. think about it, you know I’m right, and we’ll get even more gay responses from some of the straight guys who are into fashion, it’ll be great.Hugo Jacomet says Non!.
But I’ll grant that’s true for formal occasions.
I’ve never been to formal event where most of the attendees are gay men, but I assume even then it’s just variations on black tie. It’s just too easy to end up looking ridiculous and/or a pimp.
we’ll get even more gay responses from some of the straight guys
Why are you all looking at me?!
Hey Rhy. Don’t mean to be overly forward but back when I used to associate with gay people about 30 years ago they used to seem kinda chill and nobody seemed to care very much. What changed? Not saying that you could answer that but what the hell? Half the mixed ball team that I went to Mexico with were as gay as the day is long. Heck, I roomed with a gay fellow. I don’t remember this animosity.
@CRPM:
Somebody find Gilmore.
@slum:
Sure, there are exceptions. We call them “dandies”.
I dunno if there’s any gay/straight dichotomy here – I did not mean to imply any. I suppose it depends on the nature of the gays. Some lean more dandyish than others.
Fuck, in the circles I hang out with, the straight guys tend to be just as showy as the women but I’m talking means here.
Politics.
Fucked, innit?
Am I off-base in thinking that the loudest political voices got the most clout/acceptance, and became the noe normal?
It seems that, no matter the group, the loudest voices who agitate for the most change in their group’s favor, tend to get the most support (“Hey, he/she is doing most of the ‘work’–let’s support them so we don’t have to do that work ourselves”).
,
People are a lot like lightning–they’ll follow the path of least resistance, especially if it gets them what they want. Whether it’s the gay community from a few decades ago, or, current young people afraid of working in jobs they think they’d hate.
Plus, there are always going to be people “of a group” that have different priorities, and like-minded people tend to congregate together.
Sure has. We used to not care about that sort of thing. I thought that we had moved past that but what do I know?
Right in the middle of the Aids Crisis. Nobody seemed to care much unless they knew someone that was afflicted. It was like live and let live, fuck the politics. My roommate tested positive because he had transfusions when he was a kid. Did that stop me from being a Manny to his child? Fuck no.
Yep. Jeans and solid colored t-shirts. Been wearing the same uniform for fifty years.
Yeap – there is a reason Hollywood films so much in Canada
nowfor the last few decades now. It’s those sweet, sweet write-offs and “film credits”. That’s why every time someone is driving to a destination it’s on the sunshine coast. I actually lived in the motel that “Reindeer Games” was filmed at when we were getting our house replaced. Ya know what the owners did after that film was shot? They sold out. My buddy from elementary school’s parents used to run it but now its run by Patels.
When I was still in that business (I worked strictly on commercials and music videos, no episodic or film), I would often ask the directors and producers if the tax incentives factored into their location choices. The directors all said no, not at all; locations are chosen for pure aesthetics. Producers, UNIVERSALLY, laughed and laughed – “We shoot wherever it costs us less money – period.”

Wow, triggered by a bunch of actors at an award ceremony
Yeah, imagine being upset that people with unparalleled media access, and flippin’ great wodges of cash attempting to tell you that you are shameful and should be forced to live shittier lives, so that they can feel better.
I guess all those civil rights marches and protests were only filled by uppity, triggered snowflakes.
Oh what have they done now, Diggy?
It would appear that Ratfink thought he/xi found the best ‘gotcha’ twattering, because some people dislike the the attitudes found in the Hollywood set.
Yeah, a bunch of actors at an award ceremony, where they harangue the rest of the world for not living the way they are told to. But, Ratfink sure showed the naysayers!
“Ratfink” is mighty vague. Guess I should bite the bullet (ouch) and just watch the damn lowlights…
Can you imagine what the press would have said if GWB or The Donald had said 57 states…?!!!!? But Chocolate Jesus gets a free pass.
No one is the good guy is the take away we should get.
I think people make a little too much of a deal about the 57 states thing – but I also think they made too much of a deal about the GWB “can’t get fooled again” thing.
Dog knows my sleep-deprived self says some dumb things, but they’re usually not on tape.
I have a feeling that pass is because people were hopeful that he was letting slip the idea that he was going to be adding some new states to the Union.
And, of course, new states = new Democrats!!
The State of Jefferson would respectfully disagree with that last part.
Pffft….that was like, what…40 years ago, or something.
*I suppose I should have added that new states added under Obama, at his direction
I always thought it waa an inadvertent reference you the 57 Muslim States.
*tin foil hat adjusted*
I don’t think the press gave a pass as an active act of bias. It’s more that their worldview defines the narrative that selects what they choose to report. GWB was a dumb cowboy. “Everyone” knew that. So, of course when he made verbal gaffes it was evidence that he was an unsophisticated moron. Obama, on the other hand, was a urbane sophisticate. He was “one of us”. So, his verbal gaffes were naturally understandable as a simple slip of the tongue from a guy who hasn’t had enough sleep due to a grueling campaign schedule.
I didn’t hate him but I hated the hypocrisy. I used to be a centrist for fuck’s sake. They made me what I am today. https://youtu.be/MKIaS0lh-uo

Such a ban hasn’t reached here yet, thank goodness – I need ’em for scooping litter. The trick is finding one without holes.

I have an ordinary grocery bag hanging in the can until I buy proper fitting bags.

Unfortunately, I no longer have my copy.
Grocery bag ban starts 01 March here in NYC. I’ve been stockpiling. 4 trashcans of the right size, 2 litter boxes, and we use them when shelling/boning/peeling/trimming things that need a little extra smell protection in the garbage. This has me far angrier than did the proposed large sody-pop ban.
Of course everyone’s going to be angry, but I bet no one is going to change their voting pattern to get rid of the people who foist it upon us.
I just picked up a $39 one-handed reciprocating saw from the Chi-Coms via Amazon. It’s wee, it’s 12 volt, it took 3 charge cycles to tear down my kid’s old climbing dome (5’X10′ geodesic hemisphere); but, that’s the largest load it will likely ever experience so it was money well spent. Particularly when compared to the $125 lowest quote I got for a quick tear down.
Did it come with a free dose of Wuhan Virus?
