“Court Astrologer,”
“Yes, M’lud?”
“Why did you not warn me of this plague?”
“Plague, M’lud?”
“Yes, you pointy-hatted pipsqueak! The Plague! The one everybody’s talking about! The constant clamor of court gossip! The singers’ sole subject! The hoopla that the heralds are harping on!”
“The stars show no plague, M’lud.”
“And yet all the land is in turmoil over it! Explain that!”
“Turmoil, yes M’lud. Jupiter and Saturn aligned with Mars means turmoil o’er all the lands. But no plague. The stars say turmoil. Turmoil without cause. Turmoil because there is turmoil for the sake of turmoil.”
“You are becoming less entertaining than your execution would be. Far less entertaining than watching you being beaten would be. Roderick! Assemble a beating detail!”
“M’lud, perhaps you would like to hear what the stars are saying about this turmoil?”
“Plague, Court Astrologer. The beatingsmen seem to have misplaced their hickory branch. You have until they procure a new one. ”
“Yes M’lud, I did mention about how this… event is the result of Mars Jupiter and Saturn. Well, they are moving into a pair of conjunctions. Mars will conjoin with Jupiter around the 22nd of this month, so the greatest governmental spasms will occur with that. Then on the 31st, Mars will move into conjunction with Saturn. That should be the point of greatest distress for this event.”
“Those three planets seem to be causing a lot of problems.”
“The son who gelded his father who tried to eat the son. And Mars is also a dick.”

Venus moves through Taurus, so those of you who enjoyed that last week will get it again (IYKWIMAIKTYD) this week. Mercury is in Aquarius, with the unmistakable references to thermometers and phlegm. Poor Pisces is completely robbed of support planets this week, though it will pick Mercury in its luck aspect before the sun moves on. The moon is in Sagittarius, so this is a particularly good time for making predictions.
The cards are not so wonderful this week. We’ve got the Hermit indicating people going into isolation, Judgement reversed indicating mistakes, and of course the Big D. Plus with 3/4 of the cards being reversed is just generally bad.
Pisces: 2 of Cups reversed – Wasteful relationships, sterility, misallocation of resources, spilled wine
Aries: 7 of Swords – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling
Taurus: 9 of Wands reversed – Obstacles, adversity, calamity
Gemini: Ace of Swords reversed – Various disasters, the fall of a king, conception, childbirth, augmentation, multiplicity
Cancer: The Hermit – Prudence, circumspection, treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption
Leo: Ace of Coins – Perfect contentment, felicity, ecstasy, speedy intelligence, gold
Virgo: 10 of Wands reversed – Contrarieties, difficulties, intrigues, and their analogies
Libra: Judgement reversed – Weakness, pusillanimity, simplicity, deliberation, decision, sentence
Scorpio: Death – End, mortality, destruction, corruption
Sagittarius: Page of Cups reversed – Taste, inclination, attachment, seduction, deception, artifice
Capricorn: 10 of Coins reversed – Chance, fatality, loss, robbery, games of hazard, gift, dowry, pension
Aquarius: 9 of Coins reversed – Roguery, deception, voided project, bad faith
Venus moves through Taurus, so those of you who enjoyed that last week will get it again (IYKWIMAIKTYD) this week.
So what you’re saying is, there will be an uptick of activity on (NSFW) r/hotwife and related subreddits?
Leo: Ace of Coins – Perfect contentment, felicity, ecstasy, speedy intelligence, gold
I call bullshit.
I went out last night. I decided to stay local. I think that was a mistake. I stopped in two bars.
The first was a local dumpy bar with excellent sandwiches and beer/cider selection. I had a cider and a sandwich. They were good. The crowd about usual for that time of night. I went over to the local brewpub for their club night. That place got packed. And it was a bust. The DJ had technical difficulties and the crowd was unpleasant. No fights broke out though.
Irish pub later today. We’ll see if it is packed with the run-up to St. Patrick’s Day.
I feel I need a clarification. The club night isn’t really my thing. I decided to stay local which limited my choices. Since I’m going to the Irish pub today, I decided to not go last night. A nanobrewery that I would have gone to was closed for a private event.
When of our more popular local bars had Patty’s Day celebration last night in addition to Tuesday. I’m guessing they stocked up on Jameson, Guinness, and Bangers and Mash and wanted the extra night to sell them.
Meanwhile, per a news story AlmightyJB posted in the last thread, Ohio may be closing more shit.
He’s such a dick. It’s like he wants a recession.
I heard on the NPR Polis has ordered ski areas to close here. He may want a recession too.
SOMEBODY HAS TO DO SOMETHING!
“I want to do something too!”

Pitkin Co. banned gatherings of more than 50 people.
Pretty sure that is statewide. The Gov came down with a directive that any gatherings over 50 people had to ensure a six foot safety space around each individual which means no gatherings of over 50 people.
Yeah, lets ramp up the uncertainty right at the height of a panic. That’s some good leadership there Mike.
Fucking dick.
He was a shitty AG and he’s a shitty Governer. I’ve always hated DeWine with the heat of a thousand sun’s.
Makes me inclined to patronize our favorite local restaurants as much as possible – just in case.
Confession: last night the Mister & I broke quarantine & went to hear some musician friends play at a BBQ joint just over the state line in Richmond, IN. The place wasn’t deserted but was definitely less crowded than usual. The musician couple aren’t weekend warriors – they play for a living full time, but most/all of their upcoming gigs have been canceled.
On the bright side, they realized they’d now have time to record another album.
Once I get batteries, and confirm that I don’t have a fever over the next week, I plan on heading out again.
Is that a family picture? What’s the odds of even trying to draw a pair to that crew? Is Hazzard County in Ohio? Better to fold and take a chance on a new hand.
Same in PA.
Kinda quiet in NH so far.
What happens if he shuts down Popeye’s chicken?
http://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/ohio-governor-considering-closing-bars-and-restaurants
Yeah… this is getting ridiculous.
If it was in Baltimore, there will be riots. That would only leave 452, 971 chicken places open in the city.
It’s a small leap from runs in grocery stores to riots. Good job media!
This is what worries me, not catching a fucking cold.
You’re absolutely correct, we’re in a lot more danger from mass hysteria than we’ll ever be from a virus.
That would only leave 452, 971 chicken places open in the city.
This is not even a joke.
Damn you. Now I want chicken, of which none was to be found in the grocery yesterday.
Every chain fast food joint that closes at this end of town turns into “[Insert name here]’s Fish & Chicken.” If they stayed decently stocked, you should be good to go.
I havent been myself, but Ive heard nothing but good things about this place- https://www.facebook.com/chickenspotdayton/
YMMV
We did Oinkadoodlemoo for lunch yesterday, but I will use any cheap, tawdry excuse to go there, as much for the sides as for the BBQ. (The sides are carb heaven!)
That name just cracks me up.
Catchy, aint it ?
But by golly, those polls will be open tomorrow !
It just gets to be a game of one-upmanship, the sheeples lose as usual.
I have the feeling that a lot of petty, wannabe tyrants are getting a taste of the authority they can grant themselves with an “emergency declaration” and are liking it. I expect gov’ts to keep this hyped-up as long as possible.
Of course. They’re heroes and they have to save us!
Nicely done!
We’ve got the Hermit indicating people going into isolation,
Science!!!!
Dude, you’re a buzzkill!
He got Scorpio confused with Capricorn this month… oh wait… “Capricorn: 10 of Coins reversed – Chance, fatality, loss, robbery, games of hazard, gift, dowry, pension”, we’re still doomed.
#CapricornsRpeople2 – The resistance shall continue
I should probably say my goodbyes now.
Capricorn: 10 of Coins reversed – Chance, fatality, loss, robbery, games of hazard, gift, dowry, pension
Hmm…I am in Central America, maybe I should keep my head on a swivel.
Travel report update: only 20 people at my conference, which was as of Thursday was supposed to have 64. All speakers cancelled except one. MIA/LIR plane was I estimate at 70 percent capacity. The resort seems to be at below capacity and the driver reported tons of cancellations. On a positive note, the weather here is gorgeous and the food amazing. If I get trapped here, I can live with that.
Keep off cruise ships and airlines so you don’t get quarantined when someone sneezes. My wife wanted the travel this month, but there is just no freaking way until this blows over.
My wife is heading out of town this afternoon for most of the week. Non-manditory training that she doesn’t have to go to and could cancel anytime. I’m not super psyched about but I guess she really wants to get away from me:)
It hasn’t been cancelled yet? That’s surprising.
What’s funny is that she teaches at a Nursing College. I’m surprised they’re even letting her go.
They are trained professionals!
The rule seems to be that a “large gathering” is more than 250 people. So my church sent a web update that they are having service today, but no hand shakes, offering plate, must sit 6 feet apart, etc.
Real cozy like.
Ohio went from 250 to now 100. Local casino closed.
The Catholic church up here in Cleveland has told people to not come to Mass if they were high risk.
I called my barber yesterday to see if he was open (dude is 70+, diabetic, and a smoker). He was, and during the haircut, all he did was bitch about the local casino-racetrack being closed. And MLB being pushed off for the foreseeable future.
Barber knows his clientele.
“I guess she really wants to get away from me:)”
Yeah, I get that, there’s only so much of me someone can take, but my wife is more afraid of getting quarantined than she is being stuck in the house with me all month.
If I get stuck in the house because she just had to go to this thing, it’s going to be a very quiet 2 weeks at our house.
I’m more worried about the fact that people are acting so stupid than I am about the virus.
Yeah, I’m not worried about myself. But this level of panic is just crazy to me.
Yeah, would be the same here, except I could turn Borderlands 2 up as loud as I want to.
Happy to hear it FM- my husband has been asking “what’s going-on with that Glib guy who went to Costa Rica?”
They revamped the conference to include COVID-19 talk, which I’m in now. I’ll let you know after the lecture the most up to date info.
Update: influenza A&B has already killed more people in the US this year than COVID-19 world wide.
The higher the test rate, the lower the lethality: see South Korea for best numbers
If COVID-19 acts like MERS/SARS (also Coronavirus), infection rates should drop dramatically as weather warms
Take away: social distance, good hand hygiene to avoid contraction. If you do get it 81 percent chance mild, 14 moderate, 5 percent severe illness.
Thanks for the info!
I like those odds.
?♂️
Take away: social distance, good hand hygiene to avoid contraction.
So basically fucked as the US follows Italy and Spain down the same road.
The information I’ve found on this is that the warm weather will not most likely not affect COVID19. The example was given the MERS was passed easily in the desert when it was well over 110.
In an article I read a week or so ago, the main factor was humidity rather than heat. The idea being that the more water vapor in the air, the more likely it is for virus droplets to get taken out. I have no idea whether that is valid or not.
ASHRAE has this sweetspot plot in their handbook, but slide 20 in this presentation is the only place I can find it. Now you know why we design for a middling humidity.
ugh: http://www.ahrinet.org/App_Content/ahri/files/Humidity_Occupants_Presentation.pdf

Not only has your boss been fired, you are promoted to “New Boss” status and your old boss is now “King”.
Aries: 7 of Swords – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling
So I’m going to give or receive advice, some of which will be good, some of which will be babbling slander. i just need to tell the two apart beforehand.
Virgo: 10 of Wands reversed – Contrarieties, difficulties, intrigues, and their analogies
Oh shit, you guys are in for it this week.
lol
ha!
[golf clap]
Aries: 7 of Swords – Good advice, counsel, instruction, slander, babbling
So just another typical week for me at work.
Last Friday my company held a snap “work from home” drill. Our clients were not amused. Madness, it is such madness.
Chance, fatality, loss, robbery, games of hazard
we’re all Capricorns now
I think it just means we’re all going to be inside playing Mortal Kombat

From TG: “Fresh fruit.”

Mrs Gould and I celebrate 17 years (?!?!) of marital bliss today. Going to celebrate by going on a hike to a lighthouse, and then fancy dinner at a fancy restaurant in Fremont. Probably do some day drinking along the way.
Now I’ve got to wrangle some coffees.
Congrats!
Congratulations! Hope you get lucky! Lol.
Congratulations!
Woot! Have fun!
Congratulations!
*thumbs up emoji*
Sounds like a perfect day. Mrs Gould got lucky and you even luckier, it seems. Good job. Enjoy your day.
I went to a wedding yesterday, nice crowd, lot of small kids, very informal, lots of food including individual pies to take home.
Beats the funerals lately, all pre-corona. Now the young couple will need 17 more years to catch up.
Congratulations to you both.
They’ll sure have a lot to talk about at Bilderberg/2020. I’m not looking forward to next winter.

Perhaps Senator Sanders should draft a law.

Not sure how much truth there is to this, but a friend of mine just told me his friend in Idaho is reporting baby formula outages. Supposedly people are hoarding it as a long-shelf-life milk substitute. Anybody else heard of this?
I don’t have any babies, so I don’t know.

All the panicking reminded me if this bit from ‘Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy’:
“I thought,” he said, “that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something.”
“If you like, yes,” said Ford.
“That’s what they told us in the army,” said the man, and his eyes began the long trek back down to his whisky.
“Will that help?” asked the barman.
“No,” said Ford and gave him a friendly smile.”
“ pusillanimity”?!?
I had to look that shit up. The cards are dick.
I too was going to look it up but chickened out.
It was noticed, what was done there.
*sensible chuckle*
Why am I surrounded by morons?
Is the virus going to tip us into recession or the panic journalism and pols freaking out?
The latter. Feature, not bug.
I am starting to think it is the goal. *adjusts tinfoil hat* How many Republican Gov’s are instituting strict closures and shutting events down?
I posted recently when two had announced their convenient states of emergency; I might update the list for sport from time to time.
There are more Republican than Democrat governors, so my guess is that at some point Freedom-Loving Fox News™ will be explaining to us that there’s a right way to walk all over people’s rights. I for one welcome my re-education.
DeWine is.
I did not know that POS was an R. So much for my theory.
Hey, you don’t have to let facts get in the way in 2020.
Good point Mike. He is probably a Never Trumper and hangs out with David Brooks.
I hate being right.I hate being right.
It’s over. Which sounds more right:
a) Republicans are shit on freedom, just like the Democrats
2. It’s Trump’s fault because the national state of emergency made it okay for everyone.
iii/ Don, you really should get in line and watch more FoxNews
four: Hey, you scratched my anchor!
Michigan is up to 33 cases. MSU has decided no need to bring the students back for finals week, it’s all going to be on line. Should make lab courses and clinician training “interesting.”
And the local county cops are already getting their thug bluster on “we’re prepared to enforce Gov. Whitmore’s executive order.” smdh
JFC…….I know the R’s are as bad at freedom as the D’s but I like to hold on to a bit of delusion on occasion. Appears I can’t in this case.
Right, and I’m not banging on anyone here and there are lots of legitimate reasons to go with the lessor of two evils
I’m more focused on the severity of the appalling lack of understanding of freedom most Americans have and the risk it poses to us all. I do believe that conservative sympathies and generosity lead to alignments (Christian/Republican) where bad actors can come to power and blindside some people because identity/partisan politics have left them less vigilant.
I know there’s a broader and more sincere conversation to be had, but
Two quarters of declining GDP ain’t much of a hurdle. Q1 and Q2 might easily fill the bill, and then we might still stagger to a year-end break-even. My guess is that’s a best-case scenario, though.
The really bad news (for some employees) is that firms are going to soon figure out who they can do without. The old saw about a recession being defined by your neighbor’s being out of work and a depression when you’re out of work will be told over and over this year.
This scares me half to death.
My husband was working in a call center for a big bank. A few years ago, they moved them all home.
Lots of people left. It took 2-3 years, but eventually they downsized everyone.
Fortunately for us, he had sought a different position a few months before that happened.
It was a bit of a pay cut and he’d be driving to work every day, but that part was a win for both of us despite the added cost (he’s social, I’m not–got tired of my “officemate” wanting to talk to me).
Do if he gets sent home to work now… Heaven help us.
Yes, I anticipate some hardcore downsizing and automation to stem from this, particularly given the push for paid leave, flexible work, no lay-offs/firings now, etc. Even among our corporate clients I have already seen a number of the shrewder get-overs purposely taking trips to areas where they knew a quarantine was a certainly (“I took my work laptop just in-case – he, he, he).
Slowing economy from the virus plus financial contagion from the oil drilling industry. The old one-two combo.
This is far from over and Trump may put the screws to the Saudis before too long.

My coworkers were making jokes in a group chat about our favorite after work bars closing.
Then I got to thinking, that’s really going to hurt that staff. There’s 3-4 server/bartenders that we have become pretty close to, I’m brainstorming whether I should seriously try to collect some money for those folks if the bars really do close.

Babs’s dog walker is over 60 and has emphysema. She’s shutting down until this is over. I was worried that if I cancelled the walks we wouldn’t get back on her schedule and was thinking of having her walk Babs 2 or 3 days a week anyway. Glad I don’t have to do that. This really sucks for her to lose at least a month’s income.
Maybe AlmightyJB can help her.
I’m wondering if I had Wuhan Lung AIDS along with the rest of my family a few weeks back. I thought it was the flu, and maybe it was, but the symptoms were closer to WLA. It lasted longer than any flu I’ve ever had, it was ten days or so. We basically live in China here in the US, so I have a feeling that there were cases here before the official panic started.
My wife had a real nasty cold/flu in early December. We were kind of discussing the same thing.
Early December, unless you had direct contact with with someone from Wuhan, is pretty unlikely. KSuel’s is more possible. There is community transmission happening.
We travel a lot for work. Alot of airports and flights. And we were stuck in the Bay Area for most of Q4.
She’s flying to Minneapolis tomorrow. My gig was thankfully changed to a remote deal. I get to wear jammies and work from my dining room table all week.
Almost 1/3 of SF is Chinese, and I live in a particularly Chinese area here and am travelling constantly to different buildings and homes all over the city. I got symptoms about January 13th and those lasted for ten days or so, far longer than any flu I’ve gotten before, and it included zero stomach issues which I would normally see when I get the flu. It had my wife hacking for over two weeks. Our three young boys got it, but with far milder symptoms.

Well I don’t know shit about cooking, but I have a chuck roast with potatoes & veggies in a slow cooker, set for 5 hours. Wish me luck.
Figured I try my hand at something new.
Not really sure what a chuck roast is, but the recipe said it’s good for slow cookin.
Eat with horseradish. ?
+1
Yep. Sounds like a good start. 5 hours may be too long, but you’re learning.
That mixture will also like wine (white or red), and broth/bouillon.
For Aus at comment #42.
Yeah I screwed up with adding liquid. I thought I had bouillon cubes, but alas I do not. Not going to venture to the grocery today, so I just had to use plain water 🙁 Added generous amount of salt and pepper though, so hopefully wont be too bland
If “low” heat, may not be long enough.
I just searched for “beef potatoes slow cooker recipe” and one I saw said on high for 5 and another said on high for 4 to 6 hours. I dont know what im doing!!! (haha)
