The Iditarod is a sled dog race that runs almost 1000 miles from Anchorage to Nome every March. It commemorates the “Great Race of Mercy“, when 20 mushers formed a relay to bring antitoxin to Nome, which was threatened by a diptheria outbreak.
We watched the ceremonial start of the 48th Iditarod in Anchorage. The first team to go is an honorary position given to a musher for their contributions to the sport. After that, the starting order is determined by drawing, and teams are released every two minutes. They run about 20 miles, then drive the rest of the way to Willow for the official restart the next day. For this first leg, IditaRiders get to ride on the mushers’ sleds. These seats were auctioned off back in January.
Later that afternoon, we also got to watch the Running of the Reindeer. Racers run four blocks, and after a brief head-start, a herd of reindeer is released to chase them. This event is inspired by the Running of the Bulls, but the reindeer appeared to be pretty good about running between people instead of through them. Many of the racers dressed in costumes. My favorite was a guy dressed as Forrest Gump, who ended up being the fastest in his heat.
Throughout the day we did lots of shopping (being from Georgia, we needed to upgrade our cold weather gear) and eating (reindeer are as delicious as they are adorable).
The next day, we tried to go to Willow to watch the Iditarod restart, but unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones who had that idea. After sitting in traffic for two hours to go the last five miles, we arrived right after the last team had left. We did get to spend some time playing in the snow and walking around on the frozen lake that the race runs across.
Even though we missed the restart, we had a blast on this trip, and will hopefully go back in future years and be able to catch it then.
Very cool.
It usually is this time of year there.
It was in the 20s, so relatively warm for Alaska in early March, but really cold for us.
I thought reindeer were way bigger.
It depends on the species.
And whether or not they’ve been cross-bred with unicorns.
Okay, subspecies. I’m just having trouble finding the exact data.
Right? They look like big dogs.
Deplorables? check
Animal Cruelty? check
It just doesn’t get any better than this
The reindeer seemed almost bored, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen dogs that happy.
They’re bred for it; they live for it.
Something people with purse-dogs don’t understand.
^^^
My dog loves jumping into piles of brush after rabbits. I can’t keep him out. He doesn’t care he gets all scratched up.
Does he ever catch any?
The beagle I grew up with caught a lot of rabbits. Even when she was fat and old, she’d manage to nab a couple every year.
Yes. And squirrels, groundhogs, baby raccoon, birds. He’s a serial killer, he’s just in it to hear them squeak.
My FiL had a dachshund that was so fat the tip of his dick hit the ground. “Little Bit”.
He would go into the yard and murder anything that was dumb enough to enter his realm.
Typically after trapping them under the garage.
Squirrels, groundhogs, rabbits.
Once it was dead, he’d stand over it until he ate it all.
There was no allowance for taking it from him.
Who won?
Any dog breed that came about for a certain task lives to do that.
My old mutt was a great family dog, friendly as fuck and super easy going. When you brought him hunting, he was an entirely different creature. He literally would have hunted himself to death if allowed to. He never played with any other dog while hunting, in fact might snap at a young dog that still had some play in him. And was very aggressive about retrieving birds. Woe be to the dog that even thought about taking a bird from him while he was bringing it back to me.
After his first year hunting, he completely gave up on playing fetch (which he loved as a puppy). He’d look at you like “don’t you know who I am? I’m not going to play undignified games like this. It is beneath a hunting machine like me.”
Yeah, dogs are super cool when you watch them do their thing. I’m sure each of those sled dogs would have paid their owner (if they could) for the privilege of pulling that sled.
I have shelties. The urge to herd and protect the plot of land inside the fence is very strong. We have to keep them in the house when we mow the lawn, because they don’t give a shit who is close to the fence on the wrong side of the fence (my back yard is split into a fenced part and an unfenced part).
I’ve noticed other people’s shelters, border collies, and other collies carefully “herd” guests at a party into tight clusters.
They can’t help themselves. They are born to herd. It is kinda funny when you’re realize what the dog is doing and that it’s TOTALLY WORKING on you.
Our border collie is absolutely 100% convinced that bicyclists are just some kind of odd sheep that don’t know where they are supposed to go. But she is willing and able to guide them in the right direction.
Fact Check: True!
Viking1865:
We’re not?
But I’d say we’re usually not fluffy enough to be sheep.
There used to be sheepdog demonstrations at the Texas Renaissance Fair. When the shepherd wanted to gather a crowd, he’d let his dogs go round one up for him.
Not Adahn, watching the sheep dog demo was always one of my favorite parts of the Renaissance fair in Minnesota. They used border collies.[
In addition to looking derpy, my corgi was bred to chase things and bark at them. She’s very good at it.

Are there any other Glibs from GA?
(raises hand)
Hi Pine_Tree!
Howdy. If I can ask super-vaguely out of curiosity, whereabouts in GA are you from? I’m originally from south GA, went to HS in the suburbs NE of Atlanta, and then college at Tech (quite a few years ago…). Totally understand if you don’t want to answer.
suddenly it seems like RobC went to GaTech, but I don’t think he’s from GA
Have we covered if we were at Tech at the same time? I got out in 91.
I don’t remember. I got out as ME’93.
So we overlapped some, Nuke91
suburbs NE of Atlanta
I dont know if it is still true, but iin late 90s, it seemed that Doraville had the cheapest gas outside of Saudi Arabia.
I remember thinking that, and at the time attributed it to the big tank farm and terminals just outside 285, kinda outboard of the old GM plant. Figured a short drive to the gas stations.
This Doraville?
That’s it.
I am currently in the suburbs NW of Atlanta. Grew up about 30 minutes east of where I am now, went to Tech not that long ago, moved around a bit for work, then came back to Atlanta just over two years ago.
Well, so there ya go Don – not only 3 from Georgia, but 3 from Tech, and 2 of them contemporaneously. (I’m assuming Cannoli’s “…not that long ago…” is a nice way of saying “Wow, y’all are old.”)
Y’all aren’t old, but I’m on the baby end of the Glibs age spectrum. I was CS ’15 and ’16.
So when you were still learning to spell your name, they were graduating university?
We did not go to a University.
Multiversity?
Junior College.
Trade School?
The motto is, “Technically, it’s in Georgia”.
My first reply looks more jerk-ish than I intended, sorry. (smug voice – it’s an Institute, which is like totally different). I’d guess we graduated when her folks were still narrowing down the list to “Cannoli”.
Technically, I attended an Institute, but I also interchangably call it a university and a college.
I think I can speak for all of us in saying we’re generally OK with pretty much any word except for “University”.
Any reason why?
Go Dogs!
Our mascot as the tiger. There was an… anatomically correct bronze statue of a tiger. Without fail at least once a year spray paint got applied to part of it, giving the statue a cerulean scrotum.
The North Avenue Trade School’s traditional in-state rival is a place in Athens called the Clarke County Community Cow College, which styles itself the “University of Georgia” in public. We’re supposed to officially dislike them.
Disclosure: Mrs. Tree went there, so we’re a mixed marriage.
I don’t know if RPI was our official rival, but I think I’m contractually obligated to look down upon them.
RPI is superior to all those other “schools” located near the armpit of America.
Low bar.
Oh come on. RIT and RPI are the same thing, right?
Don’t forget WPI
In the before times, there was a divest Israel protest held at RPI. I’m pretty sure the protesters were all from the neighboring schools. Now the journal I get from them is full of global warming crap. Their pleading for money from this alumni goes unheaded.
The stupidest protest I saw whas after RIT got a contract to develop ways of recycling naval vessels that would otherwise be scuttled into the ocean, and people protested the military involvement on campus.
I stood in front of their sign and blocked their ability to progress because the protesters were too dumb to move a banner around a stationary fatass.
Then I got bored and walked around them.
I’ve always assumed that huskies were the breed of choice for pulling the sleds, but at least one of the dogs pictured above appears to be a different breed. Are his floppy ears just fooling me or do some drivers have non-husky dogs?
I think they are mostly Alaskan huskies, rather than Siberian huskies.
Malamutes.
Malamutes are a lot bigger than the dogs in the pictures I think.
Is there a “pet and wrestle with the huskies” event?
I was in Anchorage for the start of the Iditarod a few years ago, I don’t remember what year, but there was no snow on the ground. It was highly unusual (though not unprecedented) and they had to bring snow in on dumptrucks to cover the street.
If I could live my life over, running the Iditarod would be on the list!
In other news, just for back from shopping while wearing a mask. Fuck. Grocery stores are like Venezuela, here in WNY.
“Grocery stores are like Venezuela, here in WNY”
Quiet citizen! You shall be grateful for what the State has provided you!
I just got back from the grocery store – no mask. The only thing the petty tyrants harassed me over was not standing on the exact marked spot on the floor while waiting to check out. Mind you it was over ten feet from me to any other person.
It took all my willpower to not cause a scene.
I haven’t been contagious for six weeks.
Why did you test positive?
I did not test.
I had something. The symptoms fit, and I was sick with something. Whatever it was, I’m no longer contagious.
My son is convinced everyone at his college had it in January. The whole campus was sick, but all returned “negative” for the influenza tests they gave. Being a bunch of college students, they all recovered in a few weeks, just in time to have the rest of their school year cancelled except online classes.
This happened in my office, as well.
Fun article. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the write-up Cannoli, I wish I had a chance to eat reindeer.

You’re going to have to change your bio after this. I assume that is you and the husband in the photo? Cute couple, keep up the good work.
Damn, finally GILMORED. /notaprocommenter
Thanks! Yes, that’s me and Mr. Cannoli.
I try to not lurk, but somehow during all this nonsense I seem to have less free time before, so whenever I am on Glibs I’m mostly catching up on old comments.

LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!
Huzzah!
Wait, is it kickoff?
The 2A is stone, cold, dead in VA. They pushed through what I think was their entire wishlist in recent weeks, while everyone was distracted with the Commie Cough.
Any protests would no doubt have been broken up under Gov. Blackface McKlanrobes emergency powers.
Nah, they just got a few things. Red flag, 1 handgun per month, and a couple others. They didn’t get the “Assault Firearms” (which, by my reading, would have prohibited ownership of virtually all modern firearms based on tech dating up to a century) ban. But that at least tells us what the really want.
Red Flag alone kills the 2A IMO. Everyone has a proggy niece or nephew, everyone has that nosy prog neighbor, and with the tech companies on board they’ll start building up a database. Bought a Gadsen flag on Amazon and then made anti government posts on Facebook? Here comes your red flag.
It is still concerning considering the state motto/history and that the state constitution is even more explicit as to the who’s and the what’s than the federal constitution.
And the rhetoric of the people pushing this shit. “These constitutional laws will be followed…” It’s not constitutional just because you use the word, jackass.
Racist.

IM IN!
It is a real tragedy that the Alaskans back then didn’t have “cower in place” orders. Those shitlords could easily have gotten the bug in Nome and brought it back with them.
This trip was basically the last thing we did while things were still normal. When I was boarding the flight home I got the text from my boss that we were being encouraged to start working from home.
Glad you could get a cool adventure shoe-horned in there before CoronaPanuc.
That would be massively ironic, if the racers spread a disease throughout the state.
I was told (didn’t verify) that usually the racers stay in the schools along the way but this year they were asked to avoid the villages.
We did get to spend some time playing in the snow and walking around on the frozen lake that the race runs across.
Walking? You didn’t drive out on the lake like a civilized person?
When my mother-in-law visited us from Korea, we took her out ice fishing. She was liking things until the first hole was drilled. She was surprised to see the water. Then when we pointed out to her that the reason there were no trees around us was because we were in the middle of the lake, the trip was over. She wanted no part of that and was white knuckled the entire drive back to shore. Couldn’t convince her that there was enough ice to drive a train across the lake. And none of the dozens of other cars had fallen through the ice. Nope she wanted off and NOW.
Rationally, I knew the lake was safe, but it did weird me out more than I expected. My previous experience with frozen bodies of water consists of a thin and easily cracked layer of ice on the neighborhood pond.
Ice is weird. In the winter when it is making ice, you will be out there and you will hear enormous booms when ice is growing and pushing against each other and the shore. Sounds super scary, but like I said, it means ice is being added. When the ice melts in the spring it makes a sound like rice crispies in milk. Kind of a constant hum of snaps, crackles and pops.
And don’t worry, I’ve had Memphis buddies visit in the winter and they get nervous around ice fishing too. But I get a few beers and some butterscotch schnapps into them and they calm down.
It hasn’t been cold enough the past couple of years, but there’s a bike ride that they attempt to schedule every year that involves riding over Lake Erie from Sandusky to Put-In-Bay.
If it is too warm, you just have to be creative, and create a bike/kayak combo unit.
Speaking of lakes and such. Minnesoda gov starts caving. Announces new relaxed rules for outdoor activities. I predicted that he knows fucking with the fishing opener is a bridge too far.
The good news for the Karens is that the rules are still fairly arbitrary and capricious.
Allowed:
Disallowed:
I’m not sure why charter boats or guided fishing would be banned.
Uffda. This is why I should never read entire articles. Because you read bullshit like this:
Did I miss something in Civics where the Executive branch now gets to create laws if it decides (by a Council) that it wants to?
Because he’s a cunt.
This is outrageous.
Nice article Cannoli! those are some odd looking Huskies, Purty though
Blah, blah, blah. What doesn’t show to RadFems that the family must be abolished.
https://campusreform.org/?ID=14728
Marxists by another name.
Also, I might highlight how this dovetails very nicely to the article I posted in morning lynx. These kind of decadent, luxury beliefs can only exist in a society that has achieved a high degree of wealth and sophistication, but will inexorably lead to its decay.
If I didn’t know better, I’d guess that this person is a caricature of the sort described in that article.
It’s not even by another name. That’s what the “Radical” means. It’s not an intensifier, it’s a specific identification with Marxism. Radical Feminism is about women as a classin a power struggle with other classes. Which is also why Political lesbians are called such.
Shorter RadFem speaker: “No one wants to be in a family with me. Therefore…”
the private family qua mode of social reproduction still, frankly, sucks. It genders, nationalizes and races us. It norms us for productive work. It makes us believe we are ‘individuals’…
What morrons. Thinking that they are individuals. The need to join the hive.
Translation: The family is a demonstrably superior mode of life, it prepares members for life in a variety of ways that cannot be duplicated elsewhere which gives children growing up in that environment an advantage in later life. Due to our previous attempts to implement Marxist fantasies we have destroyed the family in the Black community. Therefore the family gives advantages to White and Asian children over the Black children, and is racist. The solution is clearly to destroy the remaining families rather than to encourage a renaissance of the Black family because that would decrease our power.
????
THE. HORROR!
“The pandemic is no time to forget about family abolition. In the words of feminist theorist and mother Madeline Lane-McKinley; ‘Households are capitalism’s pressure cookers. This crisis will see a surge in housework – cleaning, cooking, caretaking, but also child abuse, molestation, intimate partner rape, psychological torture, and more.’ Far from a time to acquiesce to ‘family values’ ideology, then, the pandemic is an acutely important time to provision, evacuate and generally empower survivors of – and refugees from – the nuclear household,” she adds.
Because those are family values.
It amazed me when I picked up Von Mises early in my liberation journey how totally right Von Mises was about feminists.
Writing in the early 20th century, he predicted accurately that feminism would be hijacked for socialism, what language tricks they’d use, etc.
Someone posted the original article here, a while back, as a bit of derp-diving.
Wow, that’s sound like blast. I really really want to go to Alaska someday. I’d like to go watch the Grizzlys chow down on some Salmon too.
Here you go!
Awesome thanks! Katmai was exactly what I had in mind:)
This training is saying that I should discuss emergency preparations with my neighbors, and join the neighborhood social media.
Oh HELL no.
Even more AYFKM:
“During a COVID-19 outbreak, it is important to share your concerns and how you are feeling with others”
They are literally telling people to complain and freak out.
Okay, they want me to share my feelings? I am pissed off. I am pissed off at the petty tyrants at the stores, the big tyrants in elective office, the morons in the media, and the stupid overreaction. I want them to all shut up and go away.
I just went and helped my Dad raise his mailbox. Mail lady put a form letter in his mailbox telling him he need to raise it to 43″ above ground level. When he told me that yesterday I said, “If I have one more Government employee tell me what I have to do or can’t do I am going to lose my shit”. My Mom…..”well she is really nice so it might make her job easier”. They are nicer people than I am.
My uncle lives in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska and had to move his mailbox twice to appease the USPS. They told him he had to move it across the road and then he had to move it back to exactly where it was before. They can all pound sand.
I feel perturbed because my neighbors and others are such sheep, willing to accept any infringement on their rights over a perceived minor threat.
So… form a militia?
Eh. I’m not in good enough shape to be a good soldier, and too self aware to become a Tactical Timmy.
TactiCOOL Timmy…

I’m probably going to do that sometime this weekend. I have the clippers, I just have to do it.

I haven’t gotten a real haircut since before Mom died. I’ve kept it short and take clippers/scissors to it every couple of days after taking a shower.
There’s probably a reason I always were a baseball cap.
There was a suggestion of that at my work. No way in hell.

What a fun trip! I heard one of the competitors interviewed after the race – what an amazing group of people.
And those dogs are just a joy to watch!
You know what would be a cool/dick move on Trump’s part?
Hold up Fed funds to any state that runs PSA commercials that feature any elected or appointed official in them. Here in Minnesoda, Walz is running a shit ton of what are basically campaign ads.
“I LOVE you guys! Us Minnesodans are so smart and great. These are tough times, but we are totally blowing this away. Couldn’t be prouder of you guys. But let’s keep staying away from each other for a while”
The ads are 90% Walz telling the rubes that they are awesome and at the end about 10% of telling them to wash hands, cover coughs and stay away from each other.
Yecch. Even Cuomo knows better than to do that.
Was it the last post I read that he had just decreed that all private labs must test his samples first?
Fun article, Cannoli!
We’re hoping to make our long-delayed trip to Alaska this summer. We were worried that things might not be freed up by then but it looks like the recovery has started.
WP is doing its greyed-out thing again.
Looks like there’s another lawsuit about the shutdown orders, this one taking place here in Ohio.
Good for them! I hope IJ takes up some similar cases. A glance at their website shows some steps in that direction, including a letter to MI Gov. Whitmer re: closing garden centers.

It honestly doesn’t take all that long to type out “FYTW” onto a saved response template.
I am greatly disappoint to find out that our great commonwealth does NOT allow us to recall the wet-fart occupying the governor’s office.
Very cool Cannoli. Although if I am going on a vacation it is not to Alaska.
PSA: I just got an email from GNC saying they stock face masks, in case anyone needs/wants.
The place I linked to yesterday is already sold out.
Do they have a direct link to share, because searching the site comes up with nada.
It was an email flyer and it claimed they have disposable and reusable mask styles in stock. I’d recommend calling your local store.
Nice article Cannoli – thanks for the cute photos!
This is awesome, Cannoli! Thank you.
I always dreamed of doing this as a kid. Still would like to try it, really. Just don’t know how I could make it happen, but I would LOVE to do this. I have always admired this event.
Plus, DOGGIES!!
Alaska really is one of the “last frontiers.”
I think it’s really cool that, while yes, they are racing against each other, it’s also a race against Nature, and she can make it very dangerous, and they still win.
That’s exactly appeals to me: Man (with Man’s Best Friend!) v. Nature in a very real challenge of one’s will.
Oh, and nice racks on those reindeer.

Oh look, Another drug that appears to work against Wuhan. How many are we up to now? Four? Five?
I’m sure CNN will be right on top of that.
I think Trump said something good about it, so I’m sure the evidence is anecdotal and it’s dangerous. Yet Trump keeps forcing doctors to use these drugs and keeps getting everyone’s hopes up.

It did take me a month to get around to writing this one. Glad people seem to enjoy it!

Dogs + snow = a little piece of heaven
Thanks for the nice write-up Cannoli!
Dan Seavey, father of Mitch and grandfather of Dallas, multi Iditarod winners, is a good friend and classmate from high school. We spend time with him when we are in Seward and vice versa here when he comes back for high school reunions. When we said good bye 2 years ago it was a given we’d probably never see each other again. Dan has a lot of stories about how he got to Alaska and involved with the Iditarod. His wife passed away about 3 years ago, Shirley was a wonderful lady that helped a lot of our friends when they visited Alaska. Great family that knows how to do the dog business.
That is cool.
And yes, reindeer are tasty.

“What have the Romans ever done for us?”
Yeah. It is hard to argue that (some) products haven’t become cheaper and that benefits some working class people.
Also read Bastiat’s Economic Sophisms, I was much more amenable to trade barriers before reading that.
Um, has Jim looked at the country of origin in the grocery store? We get fresh food from all over the world at amazing prices.
I remember a study I read a while back showing why it was cheaper for the UK to import lamb from New Zealand instead of raising it domestically.
And a quick search shows that the cheaper imported lamb is no longer true (at least as of a couple years back).
I had a client in Indiana, “Polar Minerals”. They processed talc into….talcum powder (fun fact- only 10-20% of their product went to cosmetics).
They got nearly all their raw material from China. When I asked my client why, she explained that per-ton, it was cheaper to get it from China, have it shipped across the pacifc, through the panama canal up to New Orleans, loaded on a barge, and sent up-river, then it was to buy it from Montana or Wyoming.
Now with extra asbestos and sulfur!
Thats only when processed into wall board, silly.
This company only bought rocks.
I don’t think that’s really what they mean by “globalism”. Of course, what they do mean is unclear.
i Always assume anti-globalization was another name for protectionism. I support world wide free trade. If they are talking about something else, I would need more information to form an opinion.
It is, by definition, a nebulous term but to me the crux of it from an economic POV is how the American government sabotages and drives business away, and then tells all the people left without jobs that it was a natural market force that done it.
Driving California farmers out of business to protect the delta smelt, and then insisting that there’s no way we can grow food in America so we have to import it.
Tying up industry with red tapes and lawsuits and union laws and then telling workers “See, the Rust Belt is just one of those things.”
I don’t see a tariff as any more or less anti-liberty than any other tax. I’d rather live under the Coolidge tax code than any other 20th century tax code.
*shrugs*
It gave me a 20+ year career.
I guess I’m not a real American.
Libertarian? Yeah i think that makes you a Somalian.

Not the Bee.
No. Just…no. ::bangs head on desk::
I, for one, can’t wait to see George Washington as black, queer, gender-fluid, latinx Latoya Washington.
Sassy! And fierce!
Postmodern art, where the identity of the artist (or critic) is more important than the art itself.
Isn’t this cultural appropriation? Actually, I don’t care as long as it is good.
Dog sled racing is something that happens up here in Wisconsin as well. What surprised me when we went to one was how small the dogs were. I was expecting the huskies and malamutes to be bigger than the ones we had at home, but they were all smaller.
Used to be big in northern NH until global warming killed it back in the ’80s.
I must have just squeaked by. The PPP loan was just deposited into the company account.
Yes!
Liquor and Whores
I seem a common recommendation of whores. I’ll have to get right on that!
Congrats!
Nice. I’m afraid we may have missed that boat but I’m happy for you.
Shit’s getting real, yo.
San Diego Comic Con cancelled now.
Didn’t that happen years ago? Or were they still showing up and pretending to be the same event?
I fear they have awakened the sleeping giant.
He has a name, TOK! And there’s no reason to fear him… He’s not so much a giant as a morbidly obese neckbeard in a 4XL starfleet uniform.
Hey! I’ve never worn a starfleet uniform.
Oh damn, I DO have a red shirt – I should wear that when I go grocery shopping.
That’s the color of guaranteed death.
I don’t know who it was who said something about taking bread OR circuses away, but take both… ?
Honestly, though, I’m not seeing an uprising in the future. As soon as things look like they’re starting to get rocky, the Top. Men. will declare victory over Kung Flu and order people back to work whilst patting themselves on the back.
The deplorables will go back to work and the useful idiots will go back to BLM, Antifa, and identity politics.
Things move slowly until they don’t. The governors are playing with a flint and steel near a tinderbox. They’re hoping to stop throwing sparks when they see a wisp of smoke, but it may just blink into an inferno instead.
You may be right about that. There is an undercurrent of rage building every day this goes on.
That was me in response to DoubleEagle on a recent thread. It was about not allowing the major sports and preserving the lockdown. The proles will go nuts if individual governors try to fight the Leagues’ re-opening was my premise. Trump talking about being tried of watching old baseball games will not hurt him with the electorate, although it’s probably people already in his column, anyway.
Trashy, I’m confused as to Monocle/Eyepiece/Lorgnette.
I used to only have a black bar at the bottom of my screen with UNREAD COMMENTS | HIDE OLD THREADS | TOP OF COMMENTS etc etc etc.
I clicked your link last night and NOW I have something on the left side of my screen with (top to bottom) menu button, R, H, up arrow, down arrow, and a number (number of unread comments).
I want the bar on the side to go away and leave the black bar on the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to do that?
Now for all that complaining, I want to smother you in kisses for the permalink button. It was the only thing I wanted so, so, so much! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Curiously, one regional Burning Man event (in July) is still a go, the big event and the nearer term regionals have been cancelled.
Slab City is closed to the Public right now, lots of Oldsters there
…How? Even if they put up a roadblock, can’t you just drive around it?
the Sheriff’s approve, so they helped Bill Ammon, the mayor, keep all the tourists out,
No entertainment at the Range, for now
I’m getting more irritated that my green coffee order from 4/8 hasn’t shipped yet. I’m down to about half a pound of green beans, with about a third of a pound roasted. The estimated delivery date was 4/21…
If your supply gets down to critically low with no sign of your order shipping, please let me know. I may be able to get some from our bean guy before he roasts it.
And the umpteenth reboot of Evangelion is postponed too!
It’s going to a rough week for geeks around the world.
Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Film Delayed Due to COVID-19 Concerns
Is that a new reboot, or a renaming of what would be 4.44?
Who knows!
Behold the false narrative being created before your very eyes:
Its not the disease, its the cure, that is killing the economy.
What the governors did was unavoidable. Their hand was forced, they had no choice! No CHOICE!
This is also why the 7 governors who have not done such forceful actions are being so vilified. There cannot be any examples of people who didn’t quite force the economy into so much ruin. I’m actually going to be interested in seeing the relative unemployment rates in these states.
The scope for the mini-14 arrived yesterday.
The red dot for the PC9 arrived today, and the PC9 will be delivered to the FFL later today.
Need moar stuff!
I have 1K+ M1 Carbine ammo on the way. Also some 12ga for the VEPR12
Got my 1,000 rounds of .45 yesterday. Holy crap, is that heavy.
1,000 rounds of 9mm should be here in a week or so.
Haven’t stocked up on .308. I’m feeling very financially conservative right now.
I have about 5K of .308 so good for a while.
Well, hello there. How you doin’?
1,000 of 5.56 NATO a couple of weeks ago
1,000 of 9MM a couple of days ago, and another 250 on order.
I still check SGAMMO everyday to see what is back in stock.
I’ve got a G conversion kit on the way… supposedly.

Dishonest (
Seems the squirrels ate the rest of my comment. I said no where, that I see, on their stats page does it state the hospitalized number is cumulative. Straight up propaganda now.
That’s the Eyepiece bug, it looks like. Sometimes comments with links in them get mangled when Avoid Page Refresh is on.
They have to drag it out as long as possible so:
A) They can continue stroking their control boner
B) They can try to convince the sheep that they’re DOING SOMETHING
C) GET ORANGEMANBAD
State and local sale tax revenue plummeting. State and local income tax revenue plummeting.

Just for you.

I can’t get their graphs to load. They say they are switching servers. I am surprised as of now, Polis has not extended his order. Release date is still the 26th as far as I know.
I fully expect him to do some kind of Friday afternoon news dump later today extending it until May 15 at least. WI’s gov already extended theirs until Memorial Day, so in the game of brinksmanship they’re playing, Polis now has permission to go past that.
And now for you:

was that Psy?
Nope. Hong Kong Hero.
Looks like Psy undercover……
which would be cool
LOL
Pushback in Minne.
Keep it up all night, especially driving up and down honking horns. Don’t let that asshole get any sleep.
This gives me hope.
Felt good to watch those videos, I’m proud as hell of those people.
Look at all those non-masked Covid vectors.
Nice article! Late from going grocery shopping but loved it. I like Alaska in the shoulder season, particularly before/after the cruisers influx and the weather is nice. I’ve only been to Anchorage area and Fairbanks (and the train in between) but there’s something very different from the rest of the country. Also, Anchorage punches well above its weight in restaurant quality. Just a reindeer sausage dog from a cart is fabulous.
I hope to see part of the race someday before it gets shut down. Alaska Airlines has pulled out a sponsor for future races. PETA is working 🙁
Anyone who pays attention to PETA is an idiot.
PETA was protesting at the starting line. The mushers spend tens of thousands on their dogs every year. Meanwhile, PETA steals and kills people’s pets.
“PETA’s high profile and they have good PR. The truth doesn’t matter when your opponent’s going on sensational talking points and cheap rhetorical parlor tricks. The truth is usually boring, inconvenient, and very rarely sexy.”
Heh.
(Yes, I just quoted myself.)
For the life of me, I can’t imagine why anyone pays the slightest attention to PETA.
