Arizona is still under lockdown. Yet… there’s people everywhere, the traffic is still high, and no one is paying the slightest attention to the restrictions. Enforcement has been spotty and perfunctory- even the cops don’t want to go along with the bullshit. And I sense this happening more and more around the country, decreasing most Americans’ respect for their elected “leaders.” They are seeing the bullshit, the arbitrariness, the arrogance, and the incompetence of the various levels of babus. That fills me with hope.
Births are also a beginning of hope, and today’s birthdays include a gold-plated genius; the hero we desperately need today; the author of a book series I liked a lot when I was a kid; a woman who was part of my favorite riddle; one of the heroes of my teen years; my academic grandfather; and the star of the most violent film I’ve ever seen.
Oh yes, the actual news:
Because, of course, this fuck always respected the rule of law.

‘Obama misstated the charge to which Flynn had previously pleaded guilty. He was charged with false statements to the FBI, not perjury.’
So, his diatribe is based on a false understanding of what occurred. Got it.
I take that as a good sign. That corrupt SOB is worried.
He’s afraid that one of his lackeys will turn on him under pressure from Durham.
That could be. Not that anything real would happen to him, but he’s worried about his “legacy” being tarnished.
Not a false understanding but a mendacious misrepresentation.
Yeah, fair point.
Can’t say I ever thought flying in a sardine tin with a bunch of surly strangers was a pleasure.
The U.N. has theoretically been calling for global ceasefire for almost eighty fucking years. What makes them think this call will be heeded any more than those in the past? Social signaling jackoff sessions, nothing more.
If lines of communication are open between all nations, which they pretty much are (I’m not sure about Pakistan and India), then the UN is pointless. It’s just a masturbatory exercise for polisci majors and a grifting opportunity for everyone else.

Partisan cartoons?! TO THE BARRICADES, COMRADES!
Every day when I read the New York Times, I find myself wishing there might be a newspaper out there who would be against Trump.
Former President Barack Obama, talking privately to ex-members of his administration, said Friday that the “rule of law is at risk” in the wake of what he called an unprecedented move by the Justice Department to drop charges against former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.
In the same chat, a tape of which was obtained by Yahoo News, Obama also lashed out at the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as “an absolute chaotic disaster.”
“The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn,” Obama said in a web talk with members of the Obama Alumni Association.
“And the fact that there is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic — not just institutional norms — but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk. And when you start moving in those directions, it can accelerate pretty quickly as we’ve seen in other places.”
He’s a Constitutional Scholar, you know.
“Obama Alumni Association”
Da fuq?
He didn’t complain much when the FBI declined to charge McCabe for at least counts of lying to the FBI and perjury.
at least four counts

Charged. Committed. That is all the difference right there. Lets talk about your little acolytes fuckstick.

The comments came during a lengthy chat in which he also sharply criticized the response to the coronavirus pandemic, blaming it on the “tribal” trends that have been stoked by the president and his allies.
That’s funny. That guy, of all people, complaining about tribalism.

“It is worth noting, however, that there is no clear line distinguishing an epidemic from a pandemic”
Actually there’s a lot more money to buy votes with in a pandemic. Probably the difference should be @ T. Any thing less is an epidemic, if it can stretched to a trillion its a pandemic.
I tried to ponder the miracle of human flight, to savor this rare privilege I was experiencing. But then an unhappy thought asserted itself: How many people have touched this window today with their filthy hands? I jerked back, and squirted some hand sanitizer onto my forehead.

“Mandarinate” is too hard to say.
it’s part of what it means to live in a democratic society.
I remember that class. The teacher said, “Democracy means subjugating everybody else to your phobias and compelling them to behave in a way which allows you to pretend you have eliminated even the most basic level of risk in your life. And if they object, you can have them killed. We’re all in this together.”
In relatively unreported news, the US announced it would be removing Patriot missiles from Saudi Arabia. This is not a minor development and may indicate the beginning of the end of the US/Saudi love affair.
We don’t need their oil anymore. Let the Chinese deal with them now.
They will be supporting terrorists in western China in no time.
And it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.
Interesting. Thoughts on what happens next?
Tariffs on Saudi oil would be my guess.
Also, I think it’s a good sign that we’re deescalating tensions with Iran.
Dumb question time, were the missiles there to protect Saudi interests (and if so from whom?) or to protect US troops and planes that are there?
They were protecting a Saudi oil installation presumably against Iranian strikes.

That’s some awful music right there.
Couple of things. I’m a huge Beach Boys fan. This song stinks.
Second, I think that is the actor John Stamos on drums. He has a very nice vintage Ludwig set.
It is the lead singer of Jesse and the Rippers on the drums, yes.
This will banish that abomintion.
Thank you. Here is a song from the Beach Boys that doesn’t suck. https://youtu.be/pS94YK3pscs

U6 unemployment, aka the actual unemployment rate until Clinton changed the definitions, is at 22.8%, just shy of the peak of the Great Depression.
According to BOA research, the employment to population ratio plunged to a record low, with only 51.3% of the population working. Inversely, this means that in April, 49% of the US population was not working.
That is not good.
United Airlines opted not to offer up $2.25B in bonds this week because of an 11% yield. Bankruptcy is coming.
Incidentally, the Fed has not acted on its promise to buy junk bond ETFs yet. Perhaps there’s a shred of legality left at the central bank.
Wait a week.
After the second more severe market drop hits, they’ll act on it. I have no illusions.
I thought it was no takers at the 11% yield.
Muh TESTS
The United States is mired in one of the most immiserating peacetime moments in its history. In little more than two months, more than 70,000 Americans have died of COVID-19, a disease that did not have a name in early February. The U.S. economy, which began the year as an engine of global stability, is in shambles. The unemployment rate has surged to a level unseen since the 1930s, the Labor Department announced this morning. Only about half of American adults have a job, the lowest share of the population employed since measurements began in 1948.
There is one way out of the mess: To fix the economy, the country must solve the public-health crisis. Survey data show that the economic turmoil is driven not primarily by government shelter-in-place policies but by Americans’ fear that going outside will result in illness.
To allow the recovery to begin, the United States must implement the kind of strategy that other countries have used to defeat the coronavirus. It must test widely to find infected people, trace their contacts who might themselves have been infected, and isolate that potentially infectious group from the rest of the susceptible population. Setting up this kind of infrastructure was one of the initial goals of the social-distancing measures that states and cities started in March.
Yet so far the country has failed to do so. More than 10 weeks into the coronavirus crisis, still too few Americans are being tested for the coronavirus, and the country’s testing capacity is not growing fast enough, according to data collected by the COVID Tracking Project, a volunteer initiative housed within The Atlantic. This week, the U.S. tested about 264,000 people a day, the highest level in the pandemic so far. But experts say that if the country hopes to get its outbreak under control, it must double or triple the number of daily tests. Some propose expanding testing more than 75-fold.
But to an almost astonishing degree, the U.S. has no national plan for achieving this goal. There is no effort at the federal level that has mustered anything like the funding, coordination, or real resources that experts across the political spectrum say is needed to safely reopen the county.
“Testing is your first fundamental step in a plan to keep infected people from susceptible people,” Ashish Jha, the K. T. Li Professor of Global Health at Harvard and the director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, told me yesterday. But the federal government has failed to expand testing capacity in any meaningful way, he said.
They’re completely obsessed by testing.
Is it just my imagination, or do these people think tests will keep you from catching the plague? Do they think they re going to ship everybody who tests positive to Guam for the duration? It’ll tip over.
There’s a large implicit assumption that the tests are accurate. Which they don’t appear to be. IIRC Spain got tests from China that were contaminated with COVID.
“They’re completely obsessed by testing.”
Curious as to why? Ask Ventura county CA.
This manufactured crisis is a totalitarian’s wet dream.
“We cannot go back to work until all 330 million Americans have been tested” has become some people’s implicit mantra. It’s magical thinking that we will ever even get in the ballpark of 100 million tests, let alone 330 million.
And so what? Are we going to repeat 330M test daily? Even weekly?
Please go to the front of the wood chipper line Robinson.
Unless I’m reading this chart wrong, 70k is not the number…
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
You’re not. Meyer is a moron.
Reading the fine print, the CDC page claims it does not have all the data due to slow reporting.
This page (which has been linked here many times) shows that it is > 70,000. I noticed that the data there has testing by states but not testing by country, so you can’t check whether or not our testing is really behind others.
Testing is only a snapshot. As soon as the swab comes out of the patient, it’s no longer accurate for a negative result. (Leaving aside false negative/false positive results.)

Canada good, Amerikkka bad
Canada and the United States are, in many respects, similar countries. With the coronavirus outbreak, the two North American nations had comparable risk profiles, sharing (for example) similarly aged populations and similar distance from the earliest hot spots in Europe and East Asia.
Yet the outbreak has been dramatically worse in the United States than its northern neighbor.
Per capita, the United States is currently seeing about twice as many confirmed coronavirus cases as Canada and about 30 percent more deaths. When you look at per capita cases and deaths across the course of the entire outbreak, the comparison looks even worse: the United States has over two times as many confirmed coronavirus cases as Canada and roughly twice as many deaths.
Canadian testing rates have been consistently higher, especially during critical early stages for the two countries: In mid-March, the Canadian testing rate was roughly five times higher than the American one.
To explain this divergence, I spent the last week speaking with Canadian public health experts who had been following the situation in the two countries closely. These experts varied in their take on their own country’s performance during the pandemic, assessments ranging from middle of the pack by global standards to one of the very best in the world.
But they all shared the same view of the difference between the United States and Canada: The Canadian policy response has been orders of magnitude better than the American equivalent.
“We have a federal government that is supporting provinces’ responses,” says David Fisman, an epidemiologist at the University of Toronto. “You have a chief executive who is directly undermining the public health response.”
There are a number of factors that have enabled Canada to perform at a higher level than the United States, including more consistent pre-virus funding for public health agencies and a universal health care system. But one of the most important seems to have been a difference in political leadership.
Blah blah fucking blah.
The Revolution was a MISTAKE!
They stopped New Yorkers from traveling there, something I have been advocating for Florida for decades.
“You have a chief executive who is directly undermining the public health response.”
How, exactly?
By not demanding we be shut down until August, or a vaccine is discovered, or whatever it is the people who want to hide under their beds are pushing now.
Maybe the cases per capita are lower because Canada is a large country with a tenth of the population the US has, with far fewer urban centers. I’m just spitballing here but that sounds like a likely explanation.
We’re not testing that much more.
NY is skewing the numbers. I’m sure if you adjust them, we’d roughly on par. Canada is NOT succeeding or else we would be spared of this lockdown charade. Where it is succeeding, it’s in spite of itself. We didn’t do anything unique. All we did was be very organized. If that’s all it took then, why the fuck are in lockdown?
Watch. The numbers will be adjusted for the Wuhan. Downwards.
Will go down as the greatest hyper over reaction in history.
As for political scientists, they’re all lefties so of course they’re going to be Orange Man Bad. I’ve not been impressed one iota by any of their comments. Very generic and predictable. Lame even.
Yeah. The first and second most populated states in the US have way better numbers than Canada. Canada is superior to the greater New York area like everyone else. But that’s it.
Canada has the same population as California, much lower population density, and twice the deaths.
There it is.
Similarly sized Texas has had about 5 times the superior coronavirus number as Canada, thereby demonstrating the vast superiority of having a lot of uninsured people and refusing to implement ACA’s Medicaid expansion.
This game is fun.
Second, the public health budget in Canada has increased in recent years. In the US, by contrast, authorities have been relatively starved of resources: CDC funding has fallen by 10 percent over the last decade in inflation-adjusted dollars.
“Public health has faced chronic underinvestment in the United States for quite some time. Over the last couple of years, there have been further cuts,” says Hoffman, the York professor. “Countries get to choose how prepared they are for pandemics. And the United States made strategic budgeting choices that do not position it well.”
Prioritization of available resources is just a bunch of right wing misdirection and handwaving. It’s a myth. If the CDC had only been showered with an infinite supply of
pixie dustmoney, they would have been completely prepared. This never would have happened. The CDC and NIH budgets have been essentially flat in inflation-adjusted dollars since the start of Bush’s second term. Assuming they both do something useful to help the population, one would generally conclude that its “real” funding would increase in rough proportion to the growth of the population and/or GDP. From 295 million in 2005 to 331 million today is a little over 12% increase in population, and from $14.6 trillion in Q4 2004 to $19.2 million in Q4 2019 is about 31.5% growth in GDP measured in 2012 chained dollars. So the spending per capita and the spending as a percentage of GDP have both declined since 2005.
Yet one may note that there was another President and around 10 sessions of Congress from then until the Great Satan 45 was elected. But it seems that no blame fingers are being pointed at those many Congresses nor at Bush or whomever it was that occupied the 44th slot on the history of Presidents.
Note also that the Department of Health and Human Services budget wasn’t flat during this time period. In fact, it nearly doubled in inflation-adjusted dollars from 2004 to today. Whereas, a “constant” increase relative to GDP and population would have increased it by only just under 44% instead. Both the CDC and NIH are under HHS. So lots of new money was being spent, it just wasn’t being spent on whatever it is the CDC and NIH do.
So once again we come to the fact that, even though a libertarian would want to gut the whole thing, the allegedly smart and well intentioned non-libertarians who have been running the show are liars, wastrels, and incompetents. This will all be spun as a partisan fight over responsibility for the current situation when it is, in reality, a completely bipartisan failure, to whatever extent the funding of these organizations plays a part in our current situation and outcomes.
Minor correction: per capita inflation-adjusted spending as a percentage of GDP would be expected to increase by about 47.5% from the start of 2005 to start of 2020: 1.122 (change in population) × 1.315 (change in GDP) = 1.475.

Ooops.
FWIW, I lost one of the keys to the new lock I bought for our new storage unit. Yet another trip to Home Depot is warranted to get more keys.
There’s a service called KeyHero that stores your keys digitally and you can get more keys made any time without the master.

If he would just test positive for the virus, he could be ejected from office via the 25th Amendment, and our long national nightmare would end. Healing could begin.
If only Hillary were President, no one here would have heard of Covid.
If Hillary was President, this would be “an unusually bad flu season”
It’d be exactly like SARS. We’d know the name, know that people somewhere in the world were freaking out, but there’d be a ton of pieces about Hillary’s amazing leadership protecting the US from the worst. No hysterical media reporting and without that, no lockdown.

BREAKING: CHINA IS ASSHOLE
“Two US warships steam to the rescue of a drilling ship being harassed by Chinese Navy in disputed sea after Washington accuses Beijing of ‘bullying’
The United States Navy has deployed two patrol ships to the disputed South China Sea where China and Malaysia have competing claims over a maritime region known to have valuable resources.
American officials said on Friday that the littoral combat ship USS Montgomery and the replenishment ship USNS Cesar Chavez were sent to conduct a ‘presence operation’ in the South China Sea near a Panamanian-flagged drill ship West Capella.
The move sends a strong message to Chinese ships, which have reportedly spent weeks harassing the commercial vessel.
The drill ship is under contract to conduct surveying operations in an area of the South China Sea where Malaysia lays claims to maritime sovereignty.”

Just give Taiwan nukes already.
Also Japan.
I guess we could give them the small nukes…
Just blur them out.
Nice.
I suppose I understand why they do that in actual video, but from what I̶’̶v̶e̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶n̶ been told, its applies to cartoons and hentai as well. WTF ?
Seriously. And Mojeaux is onto something. Arm Japan. They seem to be getting really angry. Maybe our ex-pats living there can expand on this.
I had a Japanese client for a long time and they talked about politics (Straff–Happy Science). They didn’t really say much about Japan’s standing in the world, but the vibe was “we are lame and powerless and we are reconciled to that, America is the world’s policemen and they need to stay that way and protect us” and I was like, “Geez, Louise, can’t we get over WWII already and give them back their autonomy?” and also, “Why won’t they convene the world and say, ‘Hey, we’re taking our power back.’?”
I really feel strongly about this and I don’t know why. Maybe underdog stuff. Maybe a feeling of injustice on their behalf. I don’t know. They can obviously handle their business, so…maybe just…leave them alone?
My neighbor was in that, uh, religion? cult? whatever. Pretty sure Japan has all the materials and components ready to make a nuclear weapon at the drop of a hat if need be. They have been happy to fly under the radar on the international stage since the bubble popped. Going through long bouts of inward looking is the norm.
Who says they don’t have them already?
Then they definitely have them if the WHO is saying they don’t.
They have a pair of “multi purpose operations destroyers” in commission that will operate F35Bs. Just don’t call them a light carrier, that’s banned by the Japanese Constitution. It’s not an aircraft carrier, it’s a ship that happens to carry aircraft. They have a modern air defense network, a modern air force, an decent number of Aegis surface combatants.
A navy is not like an army, quantity does not have a quality all its own. If the Chinese navy wants to sail out of land based air cover and fight a Japanese feet in blue water, then I wish them many happy returns. The ChiComm Navy looks very big and imposing at anchor in the South China Sea. Intimidating the Vietnamese or the Filipinos is one thing, sailing out into the deep ocean to court a fleet engagement with the Japanese is an entirely different kettle of fish. You can put a tiger on a chain, feed him lean so he’s not at his max potential, but he’s still a fucking tiger and if you walk into his reach that’s on you.

Yum.
My favorite of the bunch.
I knew you’d like that one. My kid didn’t immediately get what was funny about it.
Made me feel like I’m not doing my job as a dad.
It’s getting challenging to even find the damn things. My son drives a manual but my daughter refuses to learn.
My sister owns a Mini and I through a series of car swaps between my family I ended up driving with my dad in it. He was driving and not doing the best job, so it may be a skill that isn’t like riding a bike and you can forget.
My last stick was a ’97 Chevy S-10. I don’t miss manual transmissions at all.
Driving an unfamiliar car can give that impression. There’s a rhythm to each vehicle, a sweet spot, that takes time to learn.
Agreed. When I had a Mazda 3, I got in my friends Toyota and stalled it a couple times just because I was so used to the catch point of the Mazda’s clutch. The strange part was the Toyota had a much softer clutch and should have been easier.
But you don’t even like driving!
I prefer a manual every time. I understand all the arguments for the new transmissions (they can actually be faster), but I don’t care. I am much more in the moment with a manual and definitely more engaged. Winter driving, too, is superior.
Replacing a clutch is pennies compared with dual-clutch, ten-speed wonder transmissions.
Obviously, though, I’m a tiny minority.
I’m on your side of the debate, I miss having a manual.
No, I hate driving. That is why I like automatic transmissions, because it is one less thing I have to hassle with.
I’m a tiny minority
TMI? SBC least watched genre on pornhub?
Winter driving in a manual (with a front wheel drive!) is not just superior, it’s a fucking SPORT!
I loved my little CRX. I miss it so. *sniffle*

He’s going to be a very entertaining character once he ditches his presidential aspirations.
He seems to have actual principles. Not great principles mind you, but with how openly corrupt most of DC is, that sadly puts him near the top of congress critters.
God that’s depressing.
The UN piece in The Guardian: “Donald Trump has blamed the WHO for the pandemic, claiming (without any supporting evidence) that it withheld information in the early days of the outbreak.
Trump scapegoating of WHO obscures its key role in tackling pandemic
China insisted that the resolution should include mention and endorsement of the WHO.”
Ah. The WHO are being scapegoating and doesn’t the timeline show they sat on information?
The Guardian is a lefty mag so they will sad with the bad guys for as long as it’s tenable.
And the fact France and the UK are still considered ‘permanent powers’ is proof that the UN is a joke. France. GTFOH.
Of course the UN, the WHO, and The Guardian are going to suck China’s dick. It’s just what they do.
Rule of thumb: No news source that uses the phrase “ (without evidence)” to undermine what its reporting on is a legitimate news source.

More fun with numbers
Dangerous levels of heat and humidity have been recorded around the globe 50 years earlier than expected, according to a study published Friday that was led by Columbia University researchers.
The findings add to growing concerns that climate change will make certain parts of the Earth uninhabitable, spurring a drastic increase in climate refugees and threatening to create international strife and economic damage.
In the study, published in the journal Science Advances, climate scientists analyzed four decades of hourly data from nearly 8,000 weather stations across the globe using so-called wet bulb readings to document potentially fatal bouts of hot, wet air. The analysis provides a far-more detailed picture of how dangerously warm weather has spiked in certain areas than previous research that looked at broader regions.
Oh noes! Unbearable heat and humidity! Tell ma again, how many people live in Miami, and how many live in Moose Jaw.
Hourly data? Seriously? They tortured the shit out of those numbers until they confessed. But weather is not climate, unless they say so.

I do hope you’re right and that people are saying fuck it and going about their business. However, the next person who says something about the ‘new normal’ is getting punched in the dick.
One of my kid’s pals just flew out here and said the flight was totally normal. Of course there is a mask requirement, but he said most people had them around their necks. So I’m not sure what the pants-wetter is going on about.
That is a fantastic song! I, too, would like to see them in a non-socially-distanced venue.
Have a great day, people! And remember to hold on hope!
” However, the next person who says something about the ‘new normal’ is getting punched in the dick.”
This.

I will never forget the sight of him being taken away. Never.
I remember that story. Didn’t remember this.. Wow.
Janet Reno ladies and germs!
Hey, at least he wasn’t on fire! Like those Waco kids.
There are VERY few people I was actively happy to see die. My only regret is she went peacefully instead of in blinding pain like she deserved. Hopefully Kim Jong Un won’t be so lucky.
When Bubba kicks it I will not be shy about my glee, and I will tell anyone who has an issue with it I hope they never have their kids burned alive by a Swell Fun Guy like Bubba.
If they are of the #MeToo crowd make sure you point out the rapes. The many rapes.
That picture is worth whole lot of words.
Yep, remembered that, too.
Janet Reno has to be one of the most evil people on the planet.
Well she’s dead now, so now she has a lot of competition in Hell
“Mum of 6 vaccine injured children, 2 healthy non-vaccinated children”
That doesn’t sound plausible.
Oh, that wacky Ilhan at it again!
Could you ever want a better representative?
Well, seems she’s into white dudes and puts out. So…..
It looks like she’s just going to keep testing the waters until she ends up in prison for fraud.
Sadly, all her grifting is nickel and dime crap. She doesn’t seem smart enough to realize that she can steal so much more (and legally) if she just learned how to play the game.
Like the time as a state legislator she got busted for taking “speaking fees” from colleges while she was serving on the committee responsible for educational budgets. It was only a couple grand here and there. Why get in all that trouble for chump change?
That’s the same thing I thought about Corrine Brown. Yeah, pretty much everybody knew she was corrupt when she was first elected, and I half expected her to get busted early on. But after 20+ years in Congress, I assumed she’d learned to play the game, and had dumped all the old penny-ante scams. Nope.
This is one of those times it sucks to have princples. I’m for letting as many non-violent offenders out of prison as possible, watching her skate is galling.
You want them to learn?
What kind of a mad man are you?
Wow.
The war on ice cream trucks that I didn’t know was happening:

They’re spreading disease you know.
Thanks. Someone told about that today and I didn’t believe it. Why I wouldn’t believe it? *Flogs self*
Are people keeping their heads in Japan or are they losing their shit too? I was watching a Black Pigeon Speaks vid from a couple of weeks ago where he was walking through Tokyo’s red light district and there were restaurants and brothels still open although there were very few people on the streets.
It’s heating up just as the numbers are going down. The doctors and other medical professionals I know are all calling bullshit on this and that is something given how reluctant they are to give their opinions normally.
Spreading the Disease?
I know at least one of you have a subscription to this site. Would you be willing to share it? There are so many articles that I want to dive into, but don’t want to pay the $44/article (or $255 for entire issue).

“So, there’s no need to be in your housemates’ face about it, just be chilled, have another party, and maybe make some punch!
Put some grapes in, and then peaches, and then apples, and then bananas, and then strawberries, some wine and some cider, and you could then play spin the bottle.”
I wasn’t expecting a recipe.

I wonder if it is too late to get this printed on a t-shirt for Mother’s Day
Seems like it would be hard to read.
Whoa! You let your wimmen learn how to read?
What a cuck!

Yep, RIP, he was a visionary.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will allow the state’s auto manufacturing plants, most of which have been shuttered since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, to reopen beginning Monday.
——-
Under Whitmer’s easing on manufacturing, facilities must adopt certain safety measures and protocols in an attempt to reduce the spread of the disease. They include temperature screenings, dedicated entry points and Covid-19 education programs, among other things.
“With these safety protocols, we feel that we can reengage,” Whitmer said.
“WE” again. How kind and generous of her.
She inspired me to make this.
“robothot” is probably on the pr0nhub already
Data from a meat packing plant in Minnesoda, I’m sure that this will help the “We Love SCIENCE” crowd.
Our Gov Walz is lucky he’s a Dem and that he has gone full in on Lockdown Mania or he would have gotten the SoDak treatment. Woken up to headlines about how his state is one of the biggest hot spots of CV outside of NYC. Despite no one dying.
Before the lockdown I was taking my dad to a doctor’s appointment and they had the temperature screenings. They used the ball thing they roll on your forehead. They recorded our temperatures and sent us on our way. Mine was 77 degrees.
Like the TSA, it’s virus theater: accomplishes nothing, but looks like it’s trying to do address the situation.
“Mine was 77 degrees.”
what?
I got my stay at home auto insurance rebate yesterday.

I’ll try to not spend it all at once.?
@Raven Nation, here are my Arbor vitae. They are twice the size they were when I planted them (2015? dunno). See how the one has a split top? That’s from 2 heavy snows back to back. The other one had one too but it went back to shape, and the one that still has it is much better than it was.
I am assured, by virtue of the “reopening” dates, that the Kung Flu will halt in its tracks on May 15 because that date is magical. Or something.

New York City is partnering with Salesforce to build the city’s coronavirus contact tracing program, designed to track down and test everyone who’s come into contact with anyone who tests positive for Covid-19, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Friday.
Salesforce will deploy a call center as well as a customer relationship and case management system that will help the city track potential cases and isolate people before they become sick, he said. The partnership will be “up and running” by the end of May, he said.
“It will allow us to track every case, analyze the data constantly, keep the right information on each and every case, manage the whole process efficiently,” de Blasio said. “This is going to be a huge effort, just think how it grows and grows over the weeks, but it’s something that if we do right continually will constrain this disease.”
De Blasio announced that the city is implementing a “test and trace corps” that will be tasked with testing New Yorkers for the infection and tracing all cases and contacts of known positive infections.
Sounds legit. Maybe his wife will be hired to run it.
Multiple epidemiologists have already come out and said tracing doesn’t make any sense after there are already over a million cases. Technocrats gotta technocrat.
Chronies gonna chrony too. There’s a lot of money to be made from this.
More like grifters gotta grift
It’s almost like these tracing/tracking programs have some other use in mind.
Minnesoda wants to spend $250M to create a “temporary” corps of 4200 contact tracers. If you pop positive and tell the tracers who you were in contact with, those tracers will then go tell all those people that they are subject to a mandatory 14 day quarantine.
Personally, I think the $250M would do a lot more good if you simply paid rents for people that have lost their jobs due to this nonsense, but what do I know? If I was so smart, surely I’d be working for govt.
Also, if I ever meet one of these contact tracers, I’m ratting out Tundra, Gov. Walz, and as many cops and Karens as I can think of. I’m pretty sure only Tundra will actually spend 14 days in the Basement of Woe.
Yeah it would’ve been not bad months ago. But now most of those people are just going to be unnecessarily and inefficiently quarantined. Also, everyone is just gonna lie to protect their family and friends from these draconian rules.
Tracing is ridiculous.
Odds that they add unrelated questions like, “Do you or a family member own a gun?” to the trace corps question list?
“Try to take my family and find out.”
followed with “do you feel safe at home?”
“do you practice safe sex?”
One year a nurse asked me that prior to annual exam. I told her I was flattered, but I was already married. She turned red and was sort of pissed.
Especially since I refused to answer any of those type of questions.
It’s what they should have been doing in January and February – right after cleaning the subway and instead of dumping sick people in nursing homes. Now that pretty much everyone in NYC has already been exposed, it is utterly meaningless.
I usually get Mom a corsage on Mother’s Day to wear to church, but since there’s no church, she doesn’t want flowers. Instead, I will be washing her windows and hanging her curtains. Oh joy.
Meh, it’s my mom and I really like my mom so I’mma do it with a smile.
I think the social media crackdown on information that goes against the narrative, and prohibiting people from organizing protests, is a huge part of the problem.
I talked with my friend (who is a big Bernie guy) and part of the issue is that the Establishment is loosing it’s grip. People don’t want to work together, they want government that is specifically going to dominate those on the other side.
Eeeeeeeeeyep.
Absolutely: Google, Facebook, and Twitter are a huge part of the problem and they’re acting as a defacto wing of the government. It’s disgusting really.
I texted a friend of mine yesterday about the Free Ohio Now protests going on today (which I hadn’t heard of previous to DEG posting them), he wasn’t able to find anything about them until I gave him the specific name to search. I’m planning on going up to the Cuyahoga county one, my friend is over in Lake county and may head up to that one.
There’s one here, but for some reason they are holding it on a street corner out in the commercial area that has a Speedway station, a Denny’s, a Payless shoe store, and a defunct Charley’s Philly Steak shop. Why not hold it downtown on the square where the courthouse,Town hall, mayor’s office etc.. are? I’ll swing out and see what kind of crowd we get, maybe get a Moons over My Hammy to go.
Could a sim racer jump straight into an F1 car?
“Jump in”? Yes. Race? No.
Fucking g forces- how do they work?
Although, not quite as extreme an example, but Nissan/Sony/whoever used to have the Gran Turismo academy thing. Huh. I should probably look up a link. Something about taking Gran Turismo players then putting them on some simulator rigs to play it instead of just a wheel and pedals for a console, and then moving them onto real cars to race in a one-make series of some sort? Did I imagine that?
No, apparently it was a program on the tevelision.
The national sprint car series here reopened last night. Guys that dominated on iracing were lucky to qualify in the real thing. It only helps as a tool to practice for real drivers in my opinion, not as a way to skip years of on track experience.
I agree, I just thought it was worth mentioning. Sounds like fun anyway.
The airlines must be in chaos. Today, Delta informed me of a schedule change in a booked flight to SLC on 5/28. My new connection, from Atlanta to Detroit, gets in about three hours after my connection from Detroit to SLC! So I go online to cancel the whole freaking mess and am told “We’re sorry but we are unable to process your request. please try again later.” Anyone else having trouble cancelling flights reserved pre-ChiComVirus ?
Cancel a flight to SLC and miss seeing me!?!
I was only able to make changes by phone.
How times have changed. When I read your reply I was thinking “He must have an iPhone and their app must be way different than the android app on my Samsung because I can never get anything done on my phone”.
Then I figured out you meant that he will have to call someone using a phone. Like a caveman.
There are flights?
Yeah, in my newfound career as Uber driver I picked up a couple at the airport a few nights ago. They said there were about 10 people on the plane and only one flight a day from ATL.
It happens, particularly when a schedule change gunks up the reservation. Just call or DM on Twitter.
Old Guy Music is one of the best I’ve heard. Excellent! I’d like to see them live too.
Just got this from the district superintendent:
Catch that? July motherfucking 25th and they are already cancelling. Cunts.
High school graduations are overrated. Just mail their diplomas to the house and be done with it.
My wife was appalled when I skipped my college graduation. She thought it was important. I told her that when I got out of the Marines I pretty much swore off any ceremony that I could weasel out of.
If I had known better, I would have skipped my high school graduation too. Unfortunately my mother had invited a ton of relatives to come to the ceremony. Then Mom was pissed when she realized my abysmal attendance had lowered my GPA so much that I wasn’t sitting in the front row with the honors kids. She always told her family that i was sort of bright and there I was sitting in the back rows with the mouth breathers.
I actually met my wife the weekend I was supposed to be attending my college graduation.
Make sure to tell your daughter that even though it is virtual, she should still dress up for it. A lot of creepers out there will be taking advantage of this golden opportunity to ogle as many 18 year-old girls as they can.
Link?
BTW, the 25th is the Aquatennial. That makes me think that my optimism regarding the 5k my kids and I were going to run in for that (7/22) is misplaced and it is going to be canceled.
What a bunch of shit.
I was getting the sense early in the week that we are heading for normalcy and would be opening back very soon.
Canceling stuff months in advance is just prolonging the fake drama.
The UK can’t get enough of being couped up in the warm embrace of daddy government. Apparently no concern for the economy going all to hell because that’s what government is for, right? To just give out money to everyone and magic wealth out of nothing. Sacrifice everything for the NHS, even if it kills us? The irony is lost on most, it seems.
Anyway that’s just me braying and whining about my bad life choice to be born under the wrong sun.
I don’t know what our suburb’s Karen Quotient (KQ) is, but I bet it is pretty high. I almost sympathize with the administrators. If you tried to hold an actual graduation I bet your phones would be swamped with outraged calls from Karens who could not comprehend why you’d want to kill all those kids.
Maybe they are better adjusted than I could have hoped for? If I was in their shoes, I would have cynically wanted to cancel the graduation too, so I could start my summer vacation and been done with the hassle of planning a graduation.
Hey, at least they’d have the decency to bitch directly to you instead of anonymously snitching to the Stasi.
We’re still getting news of shit being cancelled for the summer up here in NE Ohio. The Orchestra just announced they were cancelling all of their summer events.
ISU’s Graduation was today – obviously cancelled. A group of young sorority girls is having a mini-ceremony – their parents/family parked RV’s in the frat parking lot and the girls are holding a ceremony with music, flowers, balloons, signs, etc. Very nice.
Fingers crossed they don’t get Karen-swatted.
“Farewell and RIP to the wildest, most outrageous, and most exciting rock & roll performer of all time, Little Richard Penniman. Here in a 1955-56 Cadillac Eldo.”
https://twitter.com/iowahawkblog/status/1259138299559587841
By the time I noticed Little Richard (in the ’80s) he was some jokey throwback. I never thought much about him, but then in the ’90s I read some long piece about him in a magazine and was suitably impressed by what he did back in the day.
Too bad he has moved on.
He was pretty damn awesome and his energetic shit holds up even today.
He was also proof that it’s not the size of the Richard that matters.
That will teach him!
Arizona: Muslim Students Threaten to Kill Prof for Suggesting Islam Is Violent
What is it about the Religion of Peace that makes them act out as a parody every time someone says anything even mildly bad about their religion?
“We have to KILL that fucker who said we weren’t 100% peaceful!!!!”
My benchmark is this: There was a Broadway musical making fun of my religion. My church? Hopped on the marketing opportunity and put up tongue-in-cheek posters. “You’ve seen the musical, now read the book!”
Meanwhile, no one will dare make “Koran: The Musical.” Even Kevin Smith, who once considered doing a Koran version of Dogma, said he didn’t dare.
Penn Jillette has said the same thing. He won’t make fun of Islam because he has a family and worries about their safety.
Well, he should be! Any professor who misuses “who” and “whom” is an abomination.
Not the Babylon Bee? They probably did one like that in the past, though.
When I was in college, I decided to read the Qur’an during the Mohamed cartoon riots. Pretty much every page of it says non-Muslims are bad and are going to hell.
When I was between jobs during the so-called Summer of Recovery, I hosted a radio show for a college station. One day I read a bunch of absurd Bible verses and the next day I read a bunch of absurd Qur’an verses. The station manager interrupted me and said “you can’t just make fun of Islam”. When I asked why my mockery of the Bible was acceptable, he was speechless.
When I was in language school, I mentioned that the reason ISIS destroys ancient temples and statues is because that’s what Mohamed did when his forces conquered Mecca- they destroyed all the pagan idols they found. For saying this, I was remanded to the Dept of Hurt Feelings to be re-Neducated from my Islamophobia, a term that appears to mean “knowing correct but unflattering information about Islam”.
Islamophobia is a term coined by the shameless to fool the brainless. It’s modern day drapetomania.
So long as people insist on stifling criticism of Islam, I see little hope for peaceful change or coexistance.
Anyone willing to enact some labor for me? (I’m too lazy to go look it up myself)
I saw that the Texas gal got sprung from jail. Did the Gov also drop the fine that she owed? I think it was $7K or something like that in addition to the jail time. Or does the gov’s mercy only go so far?
No it didn’t. Because that would’ve basically nullified his own executive order. But someone else paid it. And GroupMe raised like $500k for her. She made out well.
He didn’t so much Directly free her as declare his own order could not be used to jail someone, effectively freeing her.
Not groupme, go fund me. Duh.
The governor didn’t spring her, the state Supreme Court did. Texas’ governor’s pardon power does not extend to contempt, and even if it did, the governor can’t pardon without approval of some board.
Apparently #COVIDIOTS is the top trending tag on UK twatster again, as the lockdown-lovers sneer, shame, and doxx anyone with the cojones to risk £1000+ in fines to, you know, sunbathe in a park near to absolutely fucking noone, or dare to drive somewhere nice for a walk instead of just trapse around their shitty neighborhood for the 45th time?
Sad that #COVIDIOTS is notdirected towards the lockdown lovers
That’s how I want to read it too but keep having to check myself.
So we’ve had multiple places in the US alleviate rules for a couple weeks now. Any significant difference?
Reminiscent of the whole #BostonStrong thing. Protect us all-powerful father state!
I also saw on UK Twitter they’re suggesting riding bikes and walking to not overwhelm public transport when things return to normal, almost literally putting the cart before the horse.
The Ghosts of H.G. Wells and Franz Kafka are laughing at as all.

A blizzard right now. Must be a lot of fishing guys at the coffee shop in lieu of the bar.
As of this morning there were 19 virus people and 1 death in the county of 50K people. I’m guessing about 50 other people have died in that same time frame.
Shut ‘er down, Guv, hospitals can’t keep up.
The business flyer’s ordeal brought my main concern about this circus into sharp relief. Much to the delight of The Few, we have become a population of suspicious, mistrustful alienated people. Despite being a performer, I’m a bit of an introvert by nature, so one would think that I’d only be moderately disaffected. We’ll I’ve had waay the fuck too much “me time”. I want to be out among people as a positive reaffirming kinda thang. Yet the things that should be bringing us together are verboten. You can’t jostle your way into a baseball game or rock the fuck out with your buds when they’re 6 feet away and wearing masks. I haz a sad. And a angry.
