This dog gets it.

Brett was last seen twitching in the corner muttering, “but I’m Florida Man”.

Let’s start off with a bang.

SCOTUS was it’s less than satisfying self today, but the release of Donny’s taxes does look like it will be after the election.

Dumb ass is going to dumb ass.

Have we hit peak derp yet? I hate myself for reading my own link.

Seems appropriate.

A First by any other name would feel just as sweet.

    • juris imprudent

Sweet as being first for a cyptid gang bang?

  2. Count Potato

Someone should set up a charity for the cancelled.

    • Brochettaward

To be the first loser is its own sort of first, I suppose.

      • UnCivilServant

So that’s why you covet the position so much. Greetings, First Loser.

      • Brochettaward

first loser doesn’t deserve the capitalization. It’s a place of shame. See Count Potato’s anger and jealousy.

      • UnCivilServant

No, sir. As First, you are First Loser.

        An no one is jealous.

      • Brochettaward

I can feel the envy seeping through in every comment that attempts to discredit my achievements. Being First makes me first loser? The logic doesn’t even begin to make sense.

      • UnCivilServant

It makes perfect sense – we are all losers.

And you are the only one who cares about who comments first.

      • Count Potato

Fuck off, asshole. No one cares who is first. That meme is older than the dancing baby from Ally McBeal.

      • Not Adahn

The Dancing Baby from Ally McBeal is All Grown Up! What it looks like now will SHOCK you!

      • Count Potato

The baby from The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is around 30 now. I wonder if he ever thinks to himself, “Holy shit, I was sucking on Rebecca De Mornay’s tits!”

      • Bobarian LMD

        Same thing Tom Cruise says.

    • Count Potato

Anyway, I think a charity for the cancelled might be the best way to fight it. There are other charities for victims of circumstance (eg. veterans), and legal aid funds (Innocence Project). I think there would be less cancellations if employers and social media companies knew they could be facing a lawsuit or some other backlash. IANAL, but it might even be legal to hire private investigators against the cancelers. The most aggressive SJW’s tend to have pyramid of Cambodian skulls in their closet.

    • Mostly Peaceful JaimeRoberto

The charity would probably get cut off by the banks just to make sure there are no survivors.

      • Count Potato

The whole bank thing seems to be a real problem with people starting their own platforms as well. Maybe that’s the law that needs to be reformed.

  3. Count Potato

“WASHINGTON (AP) — Rejecting President Donald Trump’s complaints that he’s being harassed, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday in favor of a New York prosecutor’s demands for the billionaire president’s tax records. But in good political news for Trump, his taxes and other financial records almost certainly will be kept out of the public eye at least until after the November election.”

Is it over his New York State taxes? Otherwise, I don’t see why a New York prosecutor should get them.

      • Ownbestenemy

Technically, NY was subpoenaing the financial records from the firm and/or banks and can do so under the guise of the criminal inquiry and the grand jury. This one I think they (SCOTUS) got right. They also highlighted that State laws are in place, for every citizen, to continue to fight it and the President has no uniqueness to wave a wand and make it go away.

The second one, they punted. Trump’s lawyers properly invoked separation of powers and not executive privilege in this one and it is probably what saved them from allowing Congress to just pull private citizen tax records on a whim. TJs dissent was basically, impeach him for those records if you want them; or at least what I got from it.

Purely a idiots reading of the orders.

    • Fourscore

I thought the IRS said the records are confidential? Is someone looking over my records, calling around, laughing, etc because I may have made a mistake in addition and/or spelling?

If the NY guys get Trump’s records they’ll be guarded and none of us without a need to know will know, right?

    • Trigger Hippie

‘Vance and the House Oversight and Reform Committee sought records from Mazars concerning Trump and his businesses based on payments that Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, arranged to keep two women from airing their claims of decade-old extramarital affairs with Trump during the 2016 presidential race.’

All this is apparently about him dicking around on his ex wives. That’s it. Fuel for political theater. Though after reading the article I’m initially pleased with denying a sitting president immunity from such things if the request is legitimate, emphasis on the legitimacy.

      • Trigger Hippie

        Or current wife, whatever.

      • Ownbestenemy

The Congressional subpoena absolutely it was just political fodder and continuous news cycles on what they find in them. The NY one, not so much because of the criminal inquiry (legitimate or not)

      • Trigger Hippie

Ah, I guess I mentally glossed over that part of the investigation. I can’t skim read and retain everything like some of the quicker pricks here.

      • Ownbestenemy

A bit of a warning…I also skimmed and formed an opinion, so I could very well be wrong

    • UnCivilServant

It’s a twitter link, they never work.

      • Count Potato

      • UnCivilServant

Why? It’s Twitter, it’s not worth any effort to make it work.

“Have we hit peak derp yet? ”

I don’t think it exists. I also don’t think it’s as bad as arresting people for painting over BLM graffiti that was illegal in the first place.

    • Not Adahn

Yeah, but in Canada, hatethink is illegal.

    • juris imprudent

You’re not going to believe this, but the BLM “graffitti” was actually permitted by the city.

      • Count Potato

Did they get an actual permit, or did the city just ignore the law?

Sitting in a booth in Crocket, Tx eating boudain (that’s how it was spelled on the menu) with wife when three cattle ranchers came in and sat in the booth next to us. As they walked in I noticed one of them had a large cowboy style buckle in the shape of the Star of David. My eyes went from his buckle to his face and as we made eye contact I said “Good morning”. He responded by pointing to his belt buckle and saying “I know….right?”

I’m amazed at how many lefties use Palestine to hide their antisemitism.

      • Suthenboy

Supporting a culture whose sole purpose is to commit genocide on the Jews is not a very good strategy. They may think they are hiding it but the Palestine support is a dead give away.
Truth is no one actually supports Palestine. All of the adjacent countries have built walls and avoid the Palis like the plague. No one wants to have anything to do with them.

      • Spudalicious

Nobody likes them but they are happy to use them as cannon fodder.

      • dbleagle

That was the explicit decision by multiple Arab states after their 1967 and 1973 drubbings.

Never forget that “Black September” refers to Jordan crushing PLO in 1970. The PLO threatened the standing of the royal family.

The Palis used to be the workers in Kuwait. After Iraq overran Kuwait in 1990 Arafat backed Hussein. Once the Kuwaiti royal family returned it threw every Pali out which crushed the Pali economy. Kuwait has stood by that decision even today.

As Iran becomes more of a regional threat to the Arab states you’ll the Pali being further dropped since Israel can help protect the Arab states and the Palis can’t.

      • Spudalicious

No one squawked when Jordan said “no”, to the right of return.

Hmmmm….I haven’t bothered going to Reddit since all this insanity started but now I have to look.

      • Hyperion

The thing about Reddit is, I signed up there once, only because there was some topic I was interested in and I couldn’t find anywhere to discuss it with others interested in it, so I found there was a subreddit. Then I straight away ran into that ‘you cannot post because you have negative karma’. WTF? That was the end of my Reddit days.

    • bacon-magic

      That Judge is a dbag.

    • R C Dean

      That is just bizarre.

I don’t think they have to grant the request. I think there was a dissent the first time, which means they probably will. Let’s hope they move on it.

Of course, its way too much to hope that they will look into Sullivan’s fitness to be a federal judge.

    • Rebel Scum

I don’t understand how this can continue if the gov’t has dropped the case. That should be the end of it.

      • UnCivilServant

As a point of procedural formality, the judge has to rubber stamp the prosecution’s motion to dismiss. In any normal case, that is a given, but this petulent whelp is throwing a temper tantrum and should be removed from the bench.

      • This Machine

Couldn’t agree more. He literally waited to do this until the last two hours of the two-week window in which he had to rubber stamp it. What a jackass.

  10. The Late P Brooks

A post from the West Vancouver PD on Twitter explained further: “You’ll see the tire marks in the photo. The suspect accelerated at a high rate of speed, leaving tire skid marks across the pedestrian crosswalk as well as along Esquimalt Ave. We are hoping that someone will recognize the vehicle and contact us.”

Maybe he was late for some important event, like a peaceful protest.

How exciting would you be to be placed in charge of that task force? That is a real Resume Builder right there!

      • Not Adahn

I dunno. Surely catching a racisty racist gets you as many good boy points at City Hall as being the mayor’s driver does.

  11. Not Adahn

Hoo boy. Working late tonight. Very odd responses from the cations channel. Literally every other sample would come back at 10% of nominal. Replaced the cations concentrator and now the anions channel is freaking TF out.

I have checked the thermostat, but because of how fragile the com system is on this thing, I will NOT be turning it off and back on again unless I really need to.

    • Not Adahn

The signal spikes are pretty rhythmic, I’ll see if there’s a bubble rattling around in the cell.

      • UnCivilServant

Is it a good rhythm? Musical?

      • Not Adahn

        About 80 bpm.

      • Suthenboy

You might as well skip all of the usual trouble shooting steps and just go right to the thermostat.

      • Not Adahn

Purging the cell definitely did something.

Now to wait for the 20 min uptake time and see if it fixed that particular issue.

I might be out of here by 19:00

    • Spudalicious

Sounds like you fried your anions.

      • Bobarian LMD

Hmm, fried anion rings sound like an idea for supper.

      • Suthenboy

Wife made some the other night that were the best I have ever had. I asked her where she got the recipe and she said ‘The internet’. *facepalm*

She sleuthed around a bit and said this is probably it: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/56236/best-ever-onion-rings/
Our onions were particularly sweet…that helped a lot.

      • Count Potato

        Onion salt?

      • Not Adahn

I’m guessing some air got trapped in the cell. The noise is greatly reduced, but not eliminated. Probably reduced enough to bring it back up as long as I get the cations channel fixed.

This whole “make a change, wait an hour to see its effect” thing is annoying.

      • Not Adahn

        Hokay, it’s shift change.

If I degown, I could re-enter the building and get a free meal ticket for night shift.

        Running spike recovery…NOW!

      • Not Adahn

Anions is OK. Cations is fine, beautiful actually… but the way this problem manifests I’ll need to get two good recoveries in a row before I can bail out and pass it down to the techs.

The techs who’s shift starts at 18:00 and yet here I am, alone in the lab at 18:32…

      • Not Adahn

But I don’t really care enough to rat on people at a place I don’t work.

      • Not Adahn

        Alas, 19:00 ain’t happening.

And I’ve missed the window for a meal ticket. I haven’t been to Five Guys in almost a decade, and one opened up near here.

      • UnCivilServant

        There’s a couple, and they’re medicore.

      • Not Adahn

Rio De Janeiro Will Reopen Beaches When There Is a COVID-19 Vaccine: Mayor

The famous beaches in Brazil’s tourist hot spot of Rio de Janeiro will only reopen officially for sun bathers and swimmers once there is a vaccine for COVID-19, Mayor Marcelo Crivella said on Thursday.

Currently, the city of Rio’s beaches are open for exercise and water sports, although casual beachgoers regularly break those rules to pack the sand on recent weekends, with many not using masks or following social distancing guidelines.

“Where you can’t use masks, the inclination is to only return when there is a vaccine, which is being tested, or when contamination is close to zero,” Crivella told reporters.

“On the beach, you don’t use a mask and the level of infection goes up.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the way for prosecutors in New York to see President Trump’s financial records in a stunning defeat for Mr. Trump and a major statement on the scope and limits of presidential power.

“If we fish long enough we are sure to catch something.”

So far as I can tell, it’s a Grand Jury subpoena. Grand Juries generally have significant powers for fact-finding purposes, as they can’t actually endanger life or limb (of their own accord, anyway). The bigger problem, I think, is the potential for someone on the Grand Jury to leak what they find.

      • leon

but surely that would be a crime and no one would support them in committing it.

      • Ownbestenemy

We say its a fishing expedition, the State says otherwise. The court pointed out that Trump et al still has other recourse to persue in the matter.

  21. Evan from Evansville

I finished editing Chapter 2! Twenty pages in only an hour. Lemon squeezy.

I took care of tax stuff which pisses me off beyond belief. I payed $1900 on family demand to have my old tax records sorted (I frequently didn’t even file for them) for the past two years. This is exceptionally stupid because, though I bite my tongue and do it for them, because I haven’t earned a cent of money in the US for 11 years. It’s a bizarre world for people to possibly care about my relatively meager income that I earned as a teacher in separate Asian countries. But I must pay!…for money that I made elsewhere. I do not live in America. I’m just here for the moment. It’s stupidly annoying.

I took my most recent EEG on June 9th (a day after my bro’s birthday) and I still haven’t gotten results. Which I smartly assume are jack shit. I didn’t have any seizure spikes the last time, or the time before that, that I took one. I’m guessing if there’s anything important I would have gotten emergency notice. Nothing. I expect nothing. So what is the point? I suppose making my scared, yet loving and incredibly supportive, family happy. Bite tongue. Comply. They’ve earned it and a sense of safety for their youngest. I don’t mind. But it is pointless.

I hope that everyone else is doing well! If things are rough, just look for whatever bright spark you can find. Ridicule the stupidity around you. For me at least it helps me keep my feet planted and my spine upright.

    • Fourscore

Finally, Evan, it’s beginning to sound as though some things are coming up roses in Evansville. Good news, ‘ceptin’ for the tax crapola but the other non redeemable is worse. You sound well(er) and optimistic, two out of two ain’t bad. Keep up the good word and stay busy with your new career.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Dude, isn’t the first ~100k exempt? Did you earn that much? And was the $1900 to the IRS or to an accountant?

      • Evan from Evansville

That was to an accountant. It seems incredibly stupid. I just payed it to go along and not bring up family fights. That was actually by brother’s insistence. I think it was dumb. I make (take away rent, cuz you’re given that by contract in Korea) roughly $2200 a month. There is no reason for me to be paying US taxes on that shit. Especially when I am paying Korean taxes with that. It’s beyond reasoning stupid.

And thanks FourScore! Everything is going well. Just annoying. But I bite my tongue and do my part! Helps me get back into the game!

      • Toxteth O'Grady

That seems like a lot for an accountant. Can you get a second opinion sub rosa from someone more reasonable, and perhaps file an amended return?

      • Hyperion

“There is no reason for me to be paying US taxes on that shit. Especially when I am paying Korean taxes with that. It’s beyond reasoning stupid.”

Is that the FATCA? You can personally thank Moobz Schumer for that. Pretty sure Biden must had his greasy paws in it as well. He does in every other slimey turd of a law. Or maybe it’s just a regulation. I’m not sure we have actual laws anymore, the FYTW clause superseded all that law stuff.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I was a bit surprised Fat Cat wasn’t done away with in Trump’s first two years.

      • Ted S.

“It’s way past time to put the end to the era of shareholder capitalism. The idea the only responsibility a corporation has is its shareholders — that is simply not true, it’s an absolute farce. They have a responsibility to their workers, their community, to their country.”

In place of “shareholder capitalism,” Biden proposed a more inclusive system built on the power of labor unions and on “black, brown, and Native American” communities that he said had been left out of economic prosperity.

      • Jarflax

Isn’t the whole purpose of “shareholder capitalism” to give the public a stake in corporations?

No, it is not. The purpose is to allow people to pool resources in pursuit of a business goal without thereby becoming liable for the acts of the business. The public has no stake until they buy a share. And it has worked out immensely well. The fact that some person dislikes some outcome does not give that person a right to any say in how a business he does not own or manage is run.

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, was sent back to jail Thursday after being told he could not write a planned tell-all book while on home detention and refusing to comply.

Democrats will create an environmental justice fund to make historic investments across federal agencies aimed at eliminating legacy pollution, which disproportionately causes illness and premature death in communities of color, low-income communities, and indigenous communities, including protecting children’s health by replacing lead service lines and remediating lead paint in homes and schools; remediating Superfund and other contaminated sites; and ensuring housing and schools have adequate plumbing and safe wastewater disposal systems.

I have never had Excess Firearms. Is that good brand?

Amazingly, a new “study” is making headlines, despite the fact that it relies on obviously faulty assumptions, irrational methodology and has not been peer-reviewed.

The authors cite themselves as support for spurious statements like “Surges in firearm purchasing…have been well documented in association with mass shootings and significant political events and are followed by population-level increases in firearm violence.” Crime data for the most recent months isn’t available yet, but we know history proves otherwise.

Sure, Americans tend to buy more of something they think will soon be scarce. Just as there was an increase in toilet paper buying during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, adults are more likely to legally purchase a certain firearm they have been thinking about when there is a political discussion of banning that firearm. Does that mean those purchases are, as the author argues, “excess” firearms?

    ***
When we say anti-racist education, or anti-racist teaching, what does that mean to you?

So for me, anti-racist teaching means a fundamental disruption of the way in which teaching and learning happens in our schools today: It centers whiteness and white people. And so we have to start with the preparation of teachers.

You looked closely at how diverse teachers can reshape education and how, in particular, Black teachers can play a role. Why is having Black teachers inside classrooms important — not just for Black students to get a quality education, but for all children to get a quality education?

There is convincing evidence that Black children perform better in school, that they are able to persist through high school, that they are less likely to get suspended and expelled if they have a Black teacher compared to a white teacher. So there’s clear evidence that for Black students there is this added value for Black teachers. There is a growing body of evidence that for white students, that there is a preference for having a teacher of color when compared to a white teacher.
    ***

Interesting stuff, NPR. Did you there was a time when blacks were *required* to have their own schools and teachers? It was called “segregation” and it had some drawbacks.

That is exactly what they are up to.
If they do manage to tear down the system the useful idiots will be first, the blacks second.

When it rains derp, it pours derp.

When do you know that you’ve succeeded in implementing anti-racist education? When do the demands for anti-racist education end?

Schools are a reflection of the society, so they really never end. But … the question is almost like saying, “When can I stop working hard to raise my child?” Well, that’s just what it takes to raise a child, is that you have to confront yourself, you have to reach out for help and support when you need it.

If there were more black teachers this deplorable racist hive of scum and villainy wouldn’t exist.

    • Rhywun

When we say anti-racist education, or anti-racist teaching, what does that mean to you?

      Brainwashing.

I was reading Biden’s webpage description of how he intends to de facto abolish the 2nd Amendment by death from a thousand cuts – page after page of gun control proposals. Didn’t anyone on his team get the memo about running to the political center after locking up the primary?

    • Suthenboy

He is too busy working on the….that, uh…the thing. You know, the thing.

      • Mostly Peaceful JaimeRoberto

        C’mon man.

    • Spudalicious

I think the left is so wrapped up within themselves that they have no idea that moving hard left is a losing idea in a national election.

      • Ownbestenemy

4 months ago Id say you were dead on…today? Its a razors edge chance the People go for it just to shit them all the hell up.

      • Ownbestenemy

Shut…not shit. Now autocorrect apparently is going for my most used use of the sh- combination

    • Rhywun

Like any good bully, the DNC senses a weakness and wants to hit hard.

Establish a new Task Force on Online Harassment and Abuse to focus on the connection between mass shootings, online harassment, extremism, and violence against women. As President, Joe Biden will convene a national Task Force with federal agencies, state leaders, advocates, law enforcement, and technology experts to study rampant online sexual harassment, stalking, and threats, including revenge porn and deepfakes — and the connection between this harassment, mass shootings, extremism and violence against women.

So, flush the Bill of Rights. Got it. That is what that gibberish is cover for.

      • Derpetologist

        Ooh, found another gem:

        ***
Hold adults accountable for giving minors access to firearms. Biden supports legislation holding adults criminally and civilly liable for directly or negligently giving a minor access to a firearm, regardless of whether the minor actually gains possession of the firearm.
        ***

So…it would basically be illegal for parents to own guns? It would also be illegal for parents to go hunting with their children.

Top notch ideas there, Joe. Now I see why your campaign has all the momentum of a runaway freight train.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryVdIxMQZjE

I would honestly vote for Mr Burns over Joe.

      • Viking1865

“regardless of whether the minor actually gains possession of the firearm.”

Yeah that’s literally criminalizing owning guns if you have kids. That’s like saying someone that has booze in the house and also a car in the driveway has committed DUI just by having the ability to do so.

Mighty Joe Old hits another home run:

      ***
      SUPPORT LGBTQ+ YOUTH

“These children are the kite strings that lift our national ambitions aloft. And how we treat them is the measure of what kind of decency and honor we have as a society.”

      —Joe Biden, June 1, 2019
      ***

I’m not sure what’s funnier: the corniness of the metaphor or the fact that whoever wrote that seems not to understand kites.

      • Mostly Peaceful JaimeRoberto

Whatever it is, it sounds totally gay.

      • Ownbestenemy

Well thats cause you use cis-strings and rely upon your straightness to hold the kite aloft.

If you were to use trans-strings it just goes up!

    • Hyperion

The CEO will be on his knees groveling and apologizing by tomorrow.

    • Hyperion

The CEO will be on his knees groveling and apologizing by tomorrow. He’ll probably then amend his response with something including that all their Police cruisers will be painted with BLM symbols and a portion of all sales will go to fund BLM and pay reparations.

      • Ownbestenemy

Not until the contract runs out I suspect.

    My music contribution for tonight.

I like this version better than any other.
