IFLA: The “Best Laid Plans of Rats” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of July 19

by | Jul 19, 2020 | Advice, IFLA | 174 comments

I have plans on making this a more substantive column.  Unfortunately, this week has been insane at work (except for Thursday) and on top of that I just got an invitation to go to a steel shoot starting 9:00 am on Saturday, so I’ve got to get the CZ cleaned and post-cleaning test fired like starting in 45 minutes.

So y’all get this.  Sue me.

However it doesn’t take much time to read what’s in the stars this week.  Unbelievably, it’s got some unambiguously good news.  When Mercury transitions to direct motion, all of the nonsense from MERCURY RETROGRADE is undone and you get some unadulterated good luck.  Now this time is coincides when it’s aligned with us and the Moon, an ordinarily ambiguous sign of change, but in context, it’s just a luck amplifier.  Enjoy that.  I should probably also mention the comet, but here’s the dealio with comets.  They are one of the worst signs around (death, destruction, fall of empires, all of that stuff) but only in relation to those things that are part of “the system.”  So it’s terrible news for kings and popes, but of zero significance at all to residents of Slab City.  I figure most of you are pretty safe.

That good luck talked above is all happening in Cancer, so it’s especially good for you guys, along with tank crews and deep cover agents.  Mars in Aries means that I’ll be fast but not accurate at the shoot tomorrow, and Venus in Gemini is good news for those of you in monogamous relationships.

Gemini:  King of Coins reversed – Vice, weakness, ugliness, perversity, corruption, peril.

Leo:  10 of Coins – Gain, riches, family matters, archives, extraction, the abode of a family

Virgo: King of Swords – Power, command, authority, militant intelligence, law, offices of the crown

Libra:  Ace of Coins reversed – The evil side of wealth, bad intelligence

Scorpio:  4 of Cups – Weariness, disgust, aversion, imaginary vexations, blended pleasure. Note:  “blended pleasure” does not refer to Scotch.

Sagittarius: 4 of Swords – Vigilance, retreat, solitude, hermit’s repose, exile, tomb

Capricorn:  The Chariot reversed –  Riot, quarrel, dispute, litigation, defeat.

Aquarius:  7 of Swords – Design, attempt, wish, hope, confidence, quarrelling, a plan that may fail, annoyance.

Pisces:  Judgement reversed – Weakness, pusillanimity, simplicity, deliberation, decision, sentence.

Aries:  8 of Coins – Work, employment, commission, craftsmanship, skill in craft and business

Taurus:  7 of Cups reversed – Desire, will, determination, project.

Gemini:  9 of Wands reversed –  Obstacles, adversity, calamity.

This sounds like the Horoscope for the USA. But the US is under the Cancer sign…

This one fits me to a tee right now. New neighbors are starting a war of the roses and actually called the cops on me yesterday for yelling at them. I yelled because they called my landlord to bitch about my cats pooping and falsely claimed my kid broke into a third neighbor’s house and damaged stuff. My wife thinks she’s racist. I just think she’s a bitch. I don’t know what kind of lie she had to tell the cops to get them out here, but after they got her side of the story. The cop gave me a talking to about how liable I’d be if my cat does any damage to her plants. There was 6 cops and three cruisers. I have to admit, I went off on her and her pussy husband for calling the landlord, partly because the landlord’s 90 and not doing real good health wise. It’s all so pointless. Cop told me to film her every time we interact. I had to go around to all the other neighbors and explain why the heavy police presence. Dog knows what’s going to happen next. The husband puffed all up like he wanted to fight, so I’m going to have to be ready for something like that it seems. gonna buy a few cameras and point them right at the neighbor’s house, firstly. Fucking people.

Bars in Oklahoma used to have a “51%” sign hanging inside next to their licenses to show they were getting >50% of their revenue from alcohol. It made it so restaurants had to only stock cheap booze to keep from getting bumped up to the bar category.

  7. The Late P Brooks

This suddenly jumped into my head, a little while ago:

I read a thing in college about American POWs in the Korean War, and how none of them ever successfully escaped, and were for the most part apparently pretty compliant. It had to do, according to this thing, with the psychological nature of their treatment. Not brutally oppressive, but more like a gradual grinding down of will. Less stick, more carrot, I suppose. It was a long time ago, so don’t ask for details.

Thinking about the Great Mask Debate, it seems to me the same dynamic is t work. For the most part, it’s not OBEY, but a wheedling plea of “Why can’t you do this, for the sake of your fellow man? You want to be good boys and girls, don’t you?”

Most people do. They do want to be good little boys and girls. They want to make Mommy and Daddy happy and proud. And it’s not just masks, it’s everything. It’s racism. It’s inequality. It’s wealth. It’s anything they can think of to use against us and grind us down and steal our individuality.

Am I being melodramatic? Maybe, but- It sickens me to my core.

    • LJW

To me it’s more of “I want to keep my job so I’ll keep my mouth shut”. A lot of people live paycheck to paycheck and losing their job could ruin them. So saying something that “offends”, or being called out for not wearing a mask threatens your livelihood. We’re being held hostage by the cancel culture.

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

it has really bothered me for a long time how tied people are to their jobs. it’s the part of the Marxist drivel that rings the most true to me (every successful lie grows from a nugget of truth).

Interest rates, inflation, tax laws, health insurance laws, local and state exemptions and benefits, and a thousand regulations conspire to kill income-earning mobility, either from firm to firm, or entrepreneurial. People still do it, but the regulatory capture alone is insane, and doesn’t even account for the other bidirectional fascism cooked into our system.

      • Viking1865

The corporation is an arm of the state. It enforces the states laws, collects the states taxes, and pushes the states social agenda. In return it receives the shield of limited liability, and favorable tax codes.

      • Jarflax

I don’t disagree in principle, but I would point out that being tied to your source of income is not a recent development, and is by no stretch of the imagination worse today than it was in past eras. People didn’t head to the frontiers because they were in love with the romantic ideal of adventure, they did it because they had no viable alternative.

      • westernsloper

I do this. I also wear one when I go into places I frequent so as to not put the employees in a position to tell me to put a mask on. It is not their fault. I have noticed many places scoff at it as well for instance owners of the establishment wearing them as a chin strap and the like. I am a sheep but for reasons.

    • J. Frank Parnell

IIRC they had the POWs start with small things, gave them small rewards for doing stuff like listing some things about the US that were not perfect, then writing those down, then reading them to other POWs and defending them in debates. They slowly cranked things up as far as the anti-US, pro-commie propaganda went, but it was the writing down in their own words and defending what they had written that was key, along with the praise from the other compliant POWs.

I recently read an article recently comparing this to today’s social media, I’ll see if I can track it down.

      • Fourscore

The British POWs did a much better job, not with escaping but surviving the propaganda. American POWs were segregated, separated from each other, officers, NCOs, troops. Without the leadership morale deteriorated, etc. British troops payed games on their guards, who for the most part were young draftee types too. Like piggy back races, with betting on the out come. Made up card games/gambling with stones, that didn’t have any rules but would drive the no English speaking guards nutty.

    • Drake

By then Mao and Stalin had perfected the concentration camp. And unlike Europe, where are going to go?

It totally wasn’t us! It was a false flag to make us look bad! And anyway, why are you so upset about it?

Mr. Figuereo speculated that the destruction of the statue could have been done by people trying to make local activists look bad. But he also wondered why it had captured so much attention.

“Certain people care more about property than about people,” he said. “It’s sad.” “You can replace a statue,” Mr. Figuereo said. “You cannot replace Darryl’s life.”

“You racists disappoint me. You make me sad. Why do you make Mommy sad?”

Interestingly enough, that Figuereo guy was only interviewed in the NYT. The local papers covering it skipped him.

The locals did report that the damage was irreparable. I imagine it will be replaced by a statue of whatever Transwomyn of Color they are currently giving the credit to for Stonewall.

  9. Pine_Tree

Spent the last week on a beach vacation with another family. From a plandemic standpoint, I feel like we did everything possible to eradicate the cooties from our bodies. Basically the whole week we alternated between immersion in a strong saline solution and direct exposure to high heat and broad-spectrum radiation. There was one half-day spent walking around the open-air sauna called Charleston. The cootie-fighting steps taken while inside involved basically doubling our normal caloric intake and applying a more ethanol than is normal.

Anyway, y’all remember the electoral “enthusiasm” discussions a couple of weeks ago? Well, along the drive to the beach we spent about 76 miles on 2-lane roads in the western half of GA and then about 23 miles of 2-lane roads in the SC lowcountry, with all interstate or other 4-lane between them. I made counts of Biden signs and Trump signs along the way. In the GA section (mix of farms, pine plantations, and other rural residential), the score was Trump 17, Biden 0. In SC (only pines and a very few houses, with a little beach town at the end) it was Trump 2, Biden 0. We did see a Biden bumper sticker and an old Bernie on, plus a Tulsi billboard, in SC also.

I know that won’t take care of any mail-in fraud in PA or MI, but the apparent intensity level is dramatic.

I think another aspect of the Korean POW thing was that disobedient prisoners were not punished, personally. The guards would punish another prisoner, reinforcing the “brother’s keeper” dynamic.

    • Viking1865

Yeah it’s one thing to martyr yourself, it’s an entirely different thing to martyr someone else. Nothing is more evil than communists.

  12. J. Frank Parnell

Here it is, it was a twitter thread, not an article.

    Here’s the social media part:

So in light of that, please consider how being a user of Social Media, especially real-name social media, is structurally identical to being a prisoner in a Chinese POW camp during the Korean war.

When you endorse a cause on social media, the rewards are worthless. Tiny rewards mean that you will not perceive your statements as being coerced, you will own them. And yet, the public eye puts pressure on you to say things that are pro-social in a very particular way

Most people want to appear compassionate. A political slogan, a bleeding heart story, these things that you spread virally, they change your self-image. And they leave you with evidence, public evidence, that you are the kind of person who speaks out about “systemic oppression”

Social media created the feedback loop that drove everyone mad with social justice. Just like in the Chinese camp, the subtle but constant pressure to make cheap moralistic statements resulted in mass conversions. I believe this is the true cause of the “great awokening”

    • hayeksplosives

Some folks are required to keep a social media presence, and merely being politically neutral isn’t enough. They have to ping the Wokemeter or they are to the right of Hitler.

I clicked on that just to answer the question, “why no MILFs?”

That’s in part because many performers have turned to custom social platforms like OnlyFans to make money, with some top-tier performers making as much as six figures per month. “If they have a significant presence on OnlyFans or FanCentro they are content to stay there, especially with rising cases [in California].” This smaller casting pool has resulted in uniquely specific challenges during the casting process: for instance, “it’s a little hard to find MILFS right now,” says Calvert.

So they are implying that MILFs make better money on onlyfans? Or that they make better money disproportionately than young workers? That seems odd.

    Chicken Little, political analyst

Republicans should be terrified. President Donald Trump’s reelection prospects look increasingly grim, with polls showing that his ticket is vulnerable in states like North Carolina, Ohio and Texas. According to one recent Fox News poll, Joe Biden has a two-point lead over Trump in Georgia—where a Democratic presidential candidate has not won since 1992.

A number of young and diverse voters are already moving to solidly conservative states and it’s conceivable that an urban exodus that results from the pandemic could accelerate these trends. More importantly, President Trump and the blistering, smashmouth partisanship that constantly flows from the White House have forced Americans to confront the GOP’s ugly transformation since the 1980s. Trump’s botched response to the pandemic and his attempts to pander to extremists through backlash politics have forced a difficult conversation about the future of the Republican Party.

The potential costs of another four years under Trump have become clear, and it seems voters are leaning blue. Trump has failed to contain the spread of Covid-19, and the US faces a deadly, tumultuous and dysfunctional future as other countries are reopening.

    ——-

There are still four months until election day, but if these current poll numbers hold, Biden might end up accomplishing something truly historic. If he and the Democrats inflict the kind of damage on the GOP that members can’t simply forget, he might end up ushering in a “new normal” that Washington has not seen in a long time by pressuring the Republican Party to think long and hard about the principles of governance and institution-building once again.

The sky is falling, and it’s all President Cartoon Villain’s fault. Save us, Joe Biden! Bring back the Deep State.

    • Pan Zagloba

Oddly enough, when I checked Ladbrokes’s odds OMB is falling, from 3/2 last week to 13/8 this week. Meaning, if you put in $500, you’ll get the $1312.50 out.

Joe, for his part, is 4/7, so same $500 only gets you $785.71

So if you think the polls are wrong, silent majority is upset and Trump Two: The Trumpenation is coming, easy free money right there.

Why Ladbrokes? Because they were in business since 1880s, don’t give a fuck about politics, and take money from anyone including people who have no business betting there (some years ago a friend made enough money for a wedding because he looked at their MLS section and went “what are these people doing?”).

No wonder even Elon Musk wants out of California.

I weep that the amazing natural resources and beauty of this land are squandered by nut jobs.

    • Nephilium

I’m sure that will help support response times.

      • UnCivilServant

Calling Tech Support is oppression of brown people, so sit without your network, you Bigot.

“Cisco said that ultimately 237 comments of the 10,400 made during the videoconference “objected to what was being presented”, while the majority of comments praised management. On the video call, Cisco’s CEO was announcing a $5 million donation to “groups combating racism”. ”

So… Cisco employees are rational actors? If you dissent, you will be fired…. So let’s all post comments praising management. Who would have predicted anything else?

Top it off with a $5 million bribe to the race-baiting CPA representatives to protect yourselves from harm. See how well that works out for you when they finally take power and come to tear down the corporations and ensure that the profits go to “the right people”.

    • Urthona

I think this scientific reporting is misleading. Antibodies do fade after a matter of months but the body remembers how to make them when it encounters the virus again.

    • LJW

Natural news? Ya I don’t trust that source.

    • Q Continuum

They were gonna find an excuse to lock everyone down no matter what anyway, vaccine or no.

      • Drake

Used to be a fact of life that people will get a “cold” (coronavirus usually) a couple of times a year and the flu every few years. Once in a while it kills an oldster or somebody in poor health. Just how things works.

    • Ownbestenemy

You mean I don’t have antibodies for every virus my body has come into contact with constantly in my system?

      • Nephilium

I figured that’s why I kept getting bigger as I got older. Need to make room for all the antibodies.

    • PieInTheSky

      is that a reliable source?

      • Ownbestenemy

Not at all considering 4th grade biology used to teach us that the immune system “imprints” the antibody design to be used later if the viral infection returns.

After the infection is removed from the system, it rips apart and utilzes the cells for different fuctions that are needed elsewhere. But they are using Science!

      • Urthona

natural news is a joke but i’ve seen this reporting in a number of places. it’s a good example of how something can be technically true and incredibly misleading.

Except for work, that sounds like a different type of “I got high”.

I wonder if Swissy noticed that Spain has put Catalonia on strict “confinement” orders to protect against COVID19, ya know, for their own good.

Convenient, these faceless, invisible bogey men that can be summoned from thin air to marginalize one’s political opponents, no?

    • Pan Zagloba

On the other hand, Spanish monarchy itself might be in trouble, and that might please Catalonia. Because fuck Castilian tyrants, Make Aragon Great Again!

      • BakedPenguin

Yeah, he was good in Lord of the Rings.

      • Pan Zagloba

In Europa Universalis 4, the nation of Aragon had a mission to claim the kingship of Gondar, a province in Africa.

They also have a national idea called “Protect the Little Folk”.

I’m tempted to see if I can commission a Make Aragon Great Again hat and wear it to stream EU4…

    • hayeksplosives

I already hated the concept of state sponsored “art” since it’s inherently subjective and also not the job of government.

So seeing “state sanctioned “ vandalism covered up gets a thumbs up from me.

(Aside: has anyone caught Trump actually being racist over his public career?)

      • UnCivilServant

has anyone caught Trump actually being racist over his public career?

I hear he used to be white, ergo racist.

      • BakedPenguin

What? Why he won an evil, racist Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986, along with Rosa Parks and Muhammed Ali. Snopes, of course, states that this alone doesn’t disprove he’s a racist. Factually true, so far as it goes, it’s just too bad that the left loves to portray him as a rabid, seething white supremacist, which I think this photo disproves completely.

Why are the retards on the left trying so hard to make me like this guy?

      • BakedPenguin

        Oops. Sorry for the incoherence.

Snopes’ statement that the medal doesn’t disprove Trump is a racist is true. I do think it’s pretty good evidence that he’s never considered shaving his head and getting a swastika tattooed on his neck, though .

Also, yes, “public” art is mostly shit. If it isn’t, someone would (and should) have paid for it

OT: DeSantis won’t close Florida gyms

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday said he is not closing gyms because he thinks people who go to them are “even less at risk for the coronavirus” because they are staying healthy and working out.

“I think taking that option away for people to be healthy just doesn’t make sense,” the Republican governor said during a news conference in Apopka. “I think most people who are going to the gyms are in the low-risk groups, and I think what they are doing is making them even less at risk of the coronavirus. So, I don’t think it would make sense to close them.”

    • littleruttiger

Wow, a response that actually makes complete sense. I know nothing about DeSantis, or what else he’s done/hasn’t done, but that makes me happy

OT: Trump administration trying to block CDC funding

The Trump administration is attempting to block billions of dollars for contact tracing, additional testing and other coronavirus mitigation efforts that would potentially be included in Congress’s next coronavirus relief package, officials involved in the negotiations told The Washington Post.

According to the Post’s sources, the administration is also trying to block billions in funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that GOP senators want to give the agency as it continues to battle COVID-19 on the front lines.

MA lawmakers want to pass legislation requiring masks and quarantine

Face masks and two-week quarantines for travelers entering Massachusetts from COVID-19 hot spots would be required under a bill filed at the Statehouse on Tuesday.

The bill would also prioritize COVID-19 testing for vulnerable populations and mandate enforcement of workplace safety requirements designed to protect both workers and the public.

Both the face mask and quarantine requirements would be enforced with fines under the bill.

I found the mask and quarantine legislation. Written warning for first violation, civil fine of up to $150 for every subsequent violation for the mask portions. Mask portions last as long as the governor extends the state of emergency. $1000 fine for quarantine violations.

    • Nephilium

In fairness, at least the legislature is doing it instead of it just going through executive orders. In lighter news, a Cleveland Gentleman’s club has gotten a second citation for violating anti-coronavirus measures.

Notes from the OIU state that while the club’s overall occupancy was less than it was Friday night, patrons, dancers and staff were still congregating or coming in direct contact with one another.

“Asian” is British for Arab. Those wacky Brits and their so-called “English”.

      • Pan Zagloba

Primarily it’s code word for “Pakistani”, with “Indian” thrown in to muddy the waters because of the performance gap of the two groups in UK society, then “everyone else from what Americans call Mid-East gets bundled in”.

      • Dry_Gin_Wet_Farts

That was my point, but I muddied the waters trying to make a joke of it. They’re clearly going out of their way to make it unclear who they are talking about. It only becomes clear when you read the names.

      • Ted S.

“Asian” is British for “south Asian”.

    • R C Dean

While replenishing my mixing-grade hooch, I noticed a new (to me) flavor of Hendrick’s

I impulse bought, but now I’m uncertain what to do with it. I imagine that with wormwood and quinine it’ll be bitter af.

    • PieInTheSky

infuse a bit of honey and some bitter cherries in it

      • Not Adahn

Hmm. I actually do have some sour cherries that have been macerating in bourbon…

    • Nephilium

I really need to pick up some Hendrick’s at some point. Right now I’m down to just three bottles of gin.

    • Drake

With enough quinine, maybe it can cure ‘rona and malaria?

“Check if there’s any state ordinances against singing [in church]. If so, sing louder. Maybe your governor’s heart will grow three sizes as he hears you little Who’s singing down in Whoville.”
