And the pickling cucumbers are just getting into gear. We’ll see how the tomatoes and tomatillos do in August.

The cable companies will have fiber optic available throughout the land, just in time for it to be obsolete.
Just like McCain, Biden is going to pay a price for his VP pick.
And it’s way too late to do anything about it, so you might as well spank it to phone porn.

Tunes, tunes, what for tunes. How about a little mellow throwback Chet Baker.
That’s quite the turn out in Berlin.

Do you suppose the AP would claim that their article would pass as “neutral point of view?”
My mom and Oma would be proud.
Spud, 15 quarts of pickled beets, 24 quarts of pickled cukes. Cukes are coming every other day now. Tomatoes soon, corn is another 10 days or so. About 50-60 watermelons, if they all make it. We need 45 days more frost free weather.
Nice! My garden is very confused this year. Not a single beet seed germinated. A wet spring delayed everything.
We’re suffering from a drought but I have a well near the garden so I’m OK
Not a single beet seed germinated.
Good. Beets suck.
Beets will bring out the borscht in you.

Amazon says it will invest $10 billion for its planned space-based internet delivery system after winning US regulatory approval to deploy more than 3,000 low-orbit satellites.
No, no, no. Access to internet has to be a government project at the cost of trillions.
Musk is almost done with his satellite internet system, so we’ll have two.
Update on the story I posted this morning.

Why do some people insist on digging a hole deeper? Go from flipping the bird at a store clerk to stealing a couple cigars to attempted murder of the clerk to
attempted murder on one of the Lehigh Valley’s finest. Somewhere, of course, someone is saying “It isn’t fair; if he was black he’d be dead.”

Her history will be swept under the rug, especially after Biden drops out and the DNC names her the candidate.
Until this week, I’m pretty certain I’d never heard of her.
Can’t wait to see how many modifications her wikipedia page will get.
Her reputation is that of a true commie believer. If Biden picks her, he truly has lost all his marbles. (Assuming he has anything to do with the VP selection)

Hartford police responded to a 911 call the morning of July 25 from landlord Victor King, who said his roommate, Jerry Thompson, had been waving a Samurai sword at him, according to the Hartford Courant.
Something something commonsense sword control.
The lag on satellite internet is brutal. That makes it less useful.
What he said, 3 mins before me.
My guess is what they’re launching is akin to comparing fiber optic to dial up. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be worth it.
Not just the lag. Bandwidth isn’t great either. Mebbe Amazon and Musk are breaking the paradigm somehow, but I haven’t heard much about it yet. I do know that a buddy of mine into very expensive astro is pissed that these satellites constantly screw up his views through his massive refractor, not to mention his astrophotography.
More satellites in the air = more bandwidth. 3000 satellites is a LOT more than Hughes net or most other systems.
There is a lot of difference between LEO and GEO satellite performance both bandwidth and latency.
Data isn’t just being collected from your phone. It’s being used to score you.

lack of ability to evict squatters on your property, etc.
My folks aren’t having a great season on their garden, either. Not enough rain until like a week ago. They had a nice steady pour today though, my dad calls it a “million dollar rain”, my mom calls it “Goldberry’s washing-day.” Hoping they get more of it in the next month or two and can still get a good yield.
“The cable companies will have fiber optic available throughout the land, just in time for it to be obsolete.”
Fuck Bezos, I’m rooting for Starlink.
The one thing physical connections have got going for them that wireless, because of spectrum allocation, will never have is no practical upper limit on bandwidth. We’ve already got 1Gig fiber to our home (haven’t turned it up yet — just no need right now), and I can’t see wireless ever getting to those levels of throughput except in bespoke applications for very wealthy people who can afford — and have the political clout — to hog spectrum.
Starlink might be great for where physical connections are impractical — vehicles, remote locations, etc.
OT: Wednesday and Thursday I was having crazy pains in my busted-up skull, specifically right where three sections (of at least nine) are still fusing together. On Thurs it was pretty bad and scary. Not normal, even nine months into rehab. So I went to the ER. CT scan was done…and thankfully nothing abnormal (more than is to be expected) was found. Yay!
They gave my hydrocodone but I didn’t take any on Thurs nor Fri. I’ve done it before and I know it’s strong. With the psychological fear out of my mind I didn’t even think of taking it. Today though, I woke up with the tiniest bit of pain. Nothing at all to write home about. No concern or worry. But hey, they prescribed me 5mg tabs and I thought I might as well. Lab rat usually does as lab rat is told. I spent the next 7 hours puking up absolutely any fluid (I knew I couldn’t do food) I had. I would estimate at least 2-3 sessions per hour.
But now it’s out of me, I feel fantastic now. I remember in college when hydrocodone/Lortabs were fun! I wonder if that’s because I was snorting it and it absorbed differently. No idea! Strange. But live and learn. I won’t be taking that again unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Wish I could join in the GlibZoom tonight as I had great fun yesterday. It was good to just be able to talk and listen to folk, but I gotta play to edit and the Cubs game starts at 8. I’m thrilled I lost my virginity to that and will absolutely be back. I only have family here and no friends of my own. They’re all overseas. Was refreshing to just be myself without any acting. Although I’m sure that contributed to my admitted goofiness!
I hope you are feeling better.
Dood, that sounds no good. You must have joined the Zoomarino either before I got there or after I left. I needed to eat something since my word slurring was becoming noticeable to even myself. Sorry I missed you. I enjoy those for the same reasons (drink!) and I got called “a weird guy” by people who are obviously, from my point of view, way weirder than me so don’t let a bit of goofiness bother you.
I feel fantastic, actually. I made myself work out today and be productive. It simply highlights why I do feel like a lab rat–a pawn being moved around the board by generals (doctors) who don’t have the slightest fucking clue of what they’re doing. If I had my way I would honestly not be taking anything. I simply don’t think that it’s at all necessary. The only reason I do is because in this country (in Korea and Thailand I was footing the bill) my insurance is being paid for by others. So I play by house rules. Although I’ve barked a couple of times, I usually keep it to myself and play along to make them feel better.
And my goofiness doesn’t bother me! It’s one big reason that Lady loves me. I’m a constant joker (not all are funny, but it’s like baseball. Sometimes you’re gonna strike out–just don’t let it keep you out of the box!) and I enjoy just having fun with life. It’s one reason I love teaching (in Asia…I would never teach here); to keep young ESL students listening and ready to get knowledge dropped on them, ya gotta be a performer and make sure that their eyes and attention are always on Teacher. Boring teachers are bad teachers.
Sorry I missed you on last night’s zoom
OT question for the gear heads. My recent POS car purchase threw the serpentine belt a week ago because shit head mechanic at the used lot did not tighten the idler pulley after installing a new belt. (my guess, but the pulley was about to fall off the car) The AC clutch was a screamer prior to that and I planned on replacing it but after the belt shred itself and new belt installed the compressor clutch would not engage. I figured the belt blew apart the electrical connections on the clutch but it seems that was not the case. I replaced the compressor clutch today and it still won’t engage. I suspect the relay and have one ordered and will pick it up in the morning but that seems a huge coincidence that the relay would go out at the same time the belt disintegrated and wrapped itself around the AC compressor wheel. Is that a possibility or am I missing something here? I don’t know how to test a relay.
Did you check the thermostat?
Did a piece of belt grab a wire somewhere? Check for voltage at the clutch coil connector when the compressor should be running.
That is what I initially thought since the connector was no longer attached to the lug on the compressor. After taking it all apart though the wires were intact. I think the belt just knocked the connector off the clip/lug. When I was pulling the relay out of the one of three fuse blocks on the stupid car I heard a clicking from the compressor area (from the coil?) so I am hoping a new relay will fix it. The compressor on this POS is behind the right front tire and a PIA to mess with. There is no checking anything other than visually while the sideways engine is running. (Nissan 3.5L V6)
With tension off the belt, is there play in the AC pulley? When the hub bearing goes bad, it can take the AC clutch with it through getting too hot. Also, can you spin the AC clutch by hand with the car off? If it passes those 2 tests, try jumping terminal 30 to 87 on the AC relay and see if the clutch engages. If it doesn’t, take a test probe and verify you are getting voltage at the connector where it plugs into the compressor. If it’s getting power but still not engaging, try lightly tapping the clutch with something like a screwdriver handle while it’s running with the AC engaged. If it then engages, your air gap is too large and you have to remove the compressor clutch to remove one the shims. On some cars this is easier than others.
I replaced the AC clutch with a new one. I had to add an extra shim to have no drag. Your jumping terminals is over my head since I don’t have terminal diagram. I have failed finding one online.
I’m reading that as if it uses the Bosch system of numbering.
” threw the serpentine belt ”
That’s a thing?
What’s the POS car? You want to buy my G6? It’s cheap and it runs, and there’ no serpentine stuff falling off it.
POS car bargain!
The POS car is a 2003 Nissan Murano. I wanted something comfy to drive that got ok gas mileage and it fits the bill but when it is over 100 it sucks with no AC.
I’ll sell you my G6 GT for cheap. It has 115 thousand miles, but it runs great. 350 hp Vortec V6. No problems at all, Of course it’s not a SUV.
My SUV has 6000 miles on it and it’s almost 2 years old. We don’t go anywhere. The dealership keeps calling me for my 7.5K service. 60K warranty. My wife wants to trade it in already, lol.
” I don’t know how to test a relay.”
Use a test light. It looks like an icepick with a clear handle.
I know what a test light is. This is an enclosed relay, not a fuse.
Check in the fuse/relay box for a matching relay that works and do a temporary swap to see if it’s the relay.
You can pierce the wires.
There is no getting to the wires. If you mean the wires in the fuse block. I suppose I could pierce the wire going to the clutch coil but I am not a fan of piercing wires. (Former boat rigger) I might give that a try tomorrow because why not. I am in Tequila mode now and done pretending to be a mechanic.
If you can find an online pin-out diagram for the relay, you could pull it from the socket and see if there is power to where the coil terminal connects.
You don’t need to pierce the clutch coil wire. Just disconnect it and probe the connector. 😉
You can also check some of the functions of a relay with an ohmeter.
1 – are the controls sending a signal to turn on the relay?
2- is the relay turning on?
3 – is the supply power for the compressor coil present at the relay?
4- if the relay turns on, os there power at the compressor?
Those are the four steps I would do.
Thanks for the tips. Disconnecting the clutch coil connector is a real pain in the ass. After I disassembled the old compressor clutch I had to drag the coil up through the fan and ac hoses to get it disconnected. Who the fuck puts an AC compressor on the bottom of an engine? Nissan that’s who! I don’t want to take the new one apart to do the same. I shall
sleeppass out on it and regroup tomorrow. ROG the only other similar relay in this block was for ignition (Ithink) (maybe fuel pump) so I don’t think that will help. Maybe it will, I can swap them and see if the fucker will start. Good idea. Thanks for the input all.Look up the relay number online for the pin layout. Testing relays is easy. Put power to it and check for continuity on the switched circuit. It should click when you add the power. Lots of videos on the tube about checking relays.
Sometimes they can be taken apart and refurbished. And sometimes even if they seem to work when testing them, they just don’t work when plugged in. I have a relay on the power tilt for my outboard motor that has continuity when powered, but doesn’t work in the circuit.
In fact, here’s a link to a guy that I enjoy. He has a very straightforward way of explaining things and is great for diy stuff on a limited budget.
https://youtu.be/uerxvIBODOE
Your compressor was made by Valeo; my money is it was built either in San Juan Potosi Mexico or Rayong Thailand.
Maybe this is a bad guess, but do you really know that the compressor is any good? Sorry if you know all this, but is it possible that the bottom end locked up and that’s what shredded the belt originally or that’s what the subsequent squealing was? Is it possible that unplugging the clutch leads was the work-around once the compressor seized so the guy didn’t need to worry about accidentally shredding any more belts?
A guy like you can probably check the bottom end, especially since you swapped clutches. With everything !!!OFF!!!, make a spanner to get a hold on the armature plate, that plate piece on the front of the compressor centered inside the pulley; usually they have three holes in a pattern around the shaft and end nut; if you can get pins into two of those, you can turn the armature itself. You can make a spanner wrench by welding two pins onto the side of the jaws of a cheap set of pliers; that way you don’t need to get the centers perfect. Even with pressure on the system, can still overcome the pressures and turn the armature; you can tell if it’s locked up hard, of course, or is grindy. The pistons can gall into the cylinder walls or the piston bearings (shoes) can burn into the swash plate; if any of this is true, you’ll notice the grind; if my guess is right, it won’t turn at all and you’ll want to leave the clutch disconnected.
Here’s a movie that shows the parts moving in a cutaway model (I didn’t listen to the guy’s spiel, I just wanted to find some moving pictures).
The compressor did work as I had AC prior to the belt shredding. It is very possible the compressor seized and that caused the belt shredding. I have been wondering that also. The rest of what you typed sounds like a bunch of trouble.
Replace the tensioner while your in there. They go bad, usually the bearings which is most likely why you lost the belt.
TRIGGERED! GODDAM$(()@#!!!!
Fuck!
Today, I went outside to work on my deck garden.
I have one mater, a yellow pear, that for some reason I neglected to prune property and it sort of just went wild.
I have most of my tomatoes and peppers on carts with wheels and I noticed that one of them was hard to move around yesterday and then noticed that one side of the shelf had slipped below the level of the rest of them. So I says to myself, fuck it, have to take all of those off there so I can fix that. Easier said than done, because I have ropes tied around it as sort of stakes on all four sides to help support the taller plants. So I took that off and as I suspected, the wild untamed yeller mater just sort of went all over the place falling down.
So, I’m trying to fix this shit and I see it’s very unwieldy. So I called the spousal unit. Spousal unit says ‘I can’t come out there, I’m on the phone’. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, that she was on the phone!
So, I see I must deal with this dire situation on my own. So I found an old tomato cage I had made out of that green wire fence you can buy at Home Depot. I saw, inspecting the plant, that I had one branch coming straight up from the middle of the plant, only a couple of feet tall, that I could make the new main branch and get control of this critter, after I cut it back, after I get the ripe tomatoes off the top and cut it back hard.
So then wifey comes out to help me. Guess what happened? I broke the the new to be main branch. Fuck it, there will be days like these.
I have a LOT of maters coming on and I’m picking them daily. But no new ones or even blooms, although almost all of them are indeterminate. It’s just too damn hot.
Oof. Brutal! No mater hornworms though? Those things are the plague of any garden where I grew up.
No hornworms, no blight, no anything. I’m out there several times a day and if I see anything eating my plants, they’re going to die.
Very early in the year, I think it was May, I had one tomato plant being attacked by aphids and white flies. I pulled it out and off by itself (they’re all in containers) and sprayed it.
I use something named Trifecta Crop Control. So I spayed it down that evening top and bottom leaves, soil, everything. The next day I look and there’s still aphids and white flies and I’m thinking, shit this is history, hope it doesn’t spread. But by the next evening, they were all gone. Have not seen any since. Stuff definitely works.
I’m just really careful watching for any trouble. Sucks doing months of work only to have it all ruined. When I lived in Indiana, one year those hornworms wiped out about half of my tomatoes in only a couple of days before I got control of them, so I know how bad they can be.
Good call. My folks are less diligent but thankfully the wasps are picking up their slack. Something both satisfying and metal about seeing the little cocoons pop out the top of the caterpillars.
I still have an issue from last year that is unresolved. It seemed to only affect my Jalapenos. I would get these round bore like holes all over the fruit and I never seen anything causing it. This year, if I see it they’re getting the Trifecta. Otherwise, I still have no idea what was doing that. Birds?
I can’t think of any birds that would be small enough to make the little holes, or would even go for jalapenos, at that. Gotta be other pests. Trifecta or Sevin dust for sure.
I liked Sevendust.
Yeah, I don’t get it, I asked here last year and there’s no way anything I know could cause that. I kept wondering, WTF could eat a hot pepper like that.
I only have 3 right now, lots of blooms, but so far, no problem.
It was so creepy, I threw away all the peppers that had that, again how the fuck do you get 1/4 inch perfectly circular holes all the way through a hot pepper? Fuck that shit.
Silicone Saturday intensifies.

Tres posted a picture of the Challenger he was riding in. I have avoided collisions in mine so far. But I was driving my 69 Coronet when this happen.
That’s rough. A collision like that and still a windshield? My 68 500 had the optional “seat belts”, but they sucked so bad I never used them.
That car had the optional separate shoulder belt which I was wearing. T-boned a mini pickup that ran a red light. I was surprised I didn’t kill the old man that was driving it.
Put a new front end on it from a four door and I still have the car.
Sweet. I was riding in my buddy’s 69 GTX this morning. Sweet car with only 65K miles.
Ive been in a couple crashes (always as a passenger, and always with some redhead woman driving- just sayin). That was my 1st experience with airbag deployment.
Wow….those things were likely louder than the akshual collision. I tell people its kinda like having a 12 ga. fired next to your ear.
Im not a fan of dodge or DCA, but at a 45 mph direct collision with a car that ran a red light, the safety systems worked as designed. I was standing there taking the pic minutes after.
I missed hearing about this! When did it happen? And you’re OK?
I’ll have you know I’m an excellent driver.

Sexy.
My dad sold it to a middle aged guy who lives in Maine and clearly has the scratch to drop on that car. I’m pissed that my dad didn’t invite me to his house when the guy picked it up.
Every year Tres Sr. goes to either FLO-rida or the Virgin Islands to winter over. Oddly, Ive never gotten an invite.

My kitchen sprouted a Reuben sandwich for me.
That cures all kinds of ills. And causes others! I had a grilled pastrami sandwich today but I got the side salad instead of fries.
I’d be suspicious of food appearing without having ordered it.
Chet Baker, nice.
As far as the social credit score links, and for general Glib interest: check out “Techtonic” on Monday evenings on WFMU. Pretty interesting stuff. The host says he’s not “right” or “left”, but he does seem to be a little squishy/lefty. That said, I listen veeerrry critically, and he is making some good points. And he is framing the issues of the massive impact of Google, Twitter, Amazon etc are having on society, culture etc. Worthwhile listening. And not overtly anti-capital, and pretty thought provoking, actually.

Not sure why it won’t link. Go to WFMU.org and look for Techtonic. They’ve been archiving all content since, like 2001 or something.

“And the pickling cucumbers are just getting into gear. We’ll see how the tomatoes and tomatillos do in August.”
I have mini-cukes, named ‘White Pickles’. Totally privileged racist pickles. They only get about 3 inches long and they’re prolific. I have 2 plants and they’re all over my deck railing. Great in salad, and I’m going to pickle some of them.
I picked a bucketful again this afternoon, another 6 quarts for Mrs F tomorrow. Every other day now and if I miss a cuke one day its a giant 2 days later. I have some Armenian cukes but they aren’t productive yet. Those are the big white ribbed ones, very mild, 1 will make a quart of pickles. Its a good year and we’re eating a lot of produce and now giving away stuff, coming too fast. Corn is 8 feet tall and not ready to eat yet, tomatoes still green, bell peppers are productive. I’m waiting on the melons,. Watering again tonight for a couple hours.
I have some Armenian cukes but they aren’t productive yet.
They’re being genocided by the Turkish cukes.
Fourscore, you ever pickled corn? I haven’t done it in a while, but I swear it is the best thing pickled ever, in history. Next is kraut of course, and it’s best if you use shredded zucchini, yeah, zucchini with or without cabbage is the beast kraut you will ever have. If you want to know these things, ask us hillbillies, we know everything.
Also, I’m growing a lot of Biquinho peppers, you either put them up in Vinegar, or pickle them, or just put them in salad, they don’t have much heat, and a little tartness. The plants are beautiful.
Never pickled corn, we tried freezing it once or twice but it turned to mush. Tried on the cob/off the cob. Now we eat as much as we can in season and buy canned or frozen when necessary. In season I eat 2 ears for lunch, 2 for dinner, every day. I start with butter but after about 2-3 weeks I stop the butter, the pounds begin to accumulate. We did kraut but now I keep the flat Dutch cabbage in the refrig ’til about Feb. We’ll eat cabbage until I’m glad to see it either spoil in the frig or its gone. We’re eating it now, a lot, I like the stuff fresh for the most part.
A salad now will have pea pods, cabbage or Kale, carrots, pickled beet, bell pepper, broccoli, cukes and anything else that’s ready to eat. It really is a good time for use. Potatoes/squash will be later. Hot peppers for Mrs F, not me, UCS taught me all I need to know about spicy stuff.
“Never pickled corn”
You ain’t living bro. As soon as I get my next batch done, give me your address and I’ll ship you a jar. I’m warning you though, it is extremely addicting if you like pickled stuff and you’ll never get over it, lol.
Also, put New Mexico chili powder on your corn on the cob, OMG.
I don’t eat any peppers hotter than Jalapeno, except cayenne pepper sauce and I can literally drink that stuff right out of the bottle.
I’m growing a few new peppers this year. One is a Japanese purple sweet pepper and a Marconi sweet pepper. And the lemon pepper. The lemon pepper is too hot for me, about 4x a jalapeno, but they say it makes a great sauce and the plants are really pretty.
“…give me your address…”
Fourscore is such a legend that he has a road named after him.
Well, I guess I’m good then.
Bring a jar to the Honey Harvest, Sep 20th. Some Glibs will be there, they’d like a try at the pickled corn, too. I started several different hot peppers, so far only the jalapenos are big enough to eat. Hot, according to the missus. Thanks for the offer, Hyp.
No it was April. They said we were Just stupid racists.
They’re still saying that. They still haven’t gotten over the first 2 world wars. Which has caused them to whine incessantly about the price of video games on Steam, something they somehow blame on gun nut crazy Americans.
And I have family there and they’re great people, also not German. But fuck their government. Merkel needs to have her ugly face ran over by a tank with tactical treads.
They said we were Just stupid racists.
And that Trump/Barr are even bigger stupid racists because they did not send in Fed Marshal’s and DHS to tear gas those racists and disappear them in unmarked vans.
Navy virtue signalling makes me cringe.
Also, would.
It is a little surprising to me that we haven’t had any sooner…but I’m more in the mind that folks aren’t necessarily applying for those programs – AF and Navy both have massive shortages among folks staying in – and the pipeline for training is nuts.
Cargo flying is also easier to transition to commercial flight IIRC.
Nice onions, Spud. I’m jealous. Not one single onion seed I planted sprouted. It’s the weirdest thing.
I used sets for the onions. Had the same problem with beet seeds. And I still don’t have any tomatillos. I should be a couple of gallons into the season by now.
I blame the cold spring.
At least the buttercup squash is growing like mad.
No tomatillos here either. I’m designing some custom cloches to go over them and the tomatoes, but under no circumstances will we be able to make it work past about mid-October. I don’t think that’s long enough to get anything. Farg!
My tomatoes grow to half size, stop growing and won’t ripen. I finally got some Anaheim’s off the chili plants but they are stunted too. The Big Jim just keeps flowering but only one chili so far. I have the runt producing potted plant garden.
“My tomatoes grow to half size, stop growing and won’t ripen.”
You just said it’s 102 there. There’s your problem.
Tomatoes like 70s-80s in the day. Anything above or below that, they’ll stress and not set bloom, or the blooms will drop before producing fruit.
Plenty of people grow great tomatoes here. Just not me. I will figure it out one day.
They’r e not doing it when it’s 102 degrees. Other than that, I can try to help, I’ve been doing it for 40 years. Are you doing container or in ground?
I quit trying to grow onions, they never produced very big bulbs, great for green onions but too many at the same time. I always used sets, too. This is the first year I’ve tried carrots, they’re hard to get started because it’s so sandy but this year a few grew, now the damned mice are eating the top part if it sticks out of the ground. Doesn’t hurt the carrot’s edibility but I can’t eat them as fast as the mice can destroy them. They are also destroying very small cantaloupe and cukes.
I put out traps and poison but I doubt if they are interested while there is so much fresh stuff available.
My first year trying to grow lettuce. My little plants were gorgeous and then I put them outside. Big mistake. It was June. I brought them back inside and now I have 3 of them still alive and I might get some lettuce. I’m going to try again in Sept, planting seeds and maybe put them back outside in mid Sept or early Oct.
Head lettuce is tough to grow, Mrs F grows leaf lettuce and some weird Asian stuff and mint and adds those things to her salad.
You mean like iceberg? I’m not even trying that, but it seems challenging here just growing leaf lettuce. I’ll try it again this fall, and when we buy a new home next year, one of my first goals is to get a green house, or just have a bigger house, then I can try lights.
Don’t forget squirrels and quail.
Squirrels are waiting on the corn, don’t worry about the quail but ‘coons, skunks and wood chucks like to help. So far this year only 2 woodchucks and 2 pocket gophers and I dispatched them to Grandpa’s farm.
In news of interest to absolutely no one but me, today I continued my (adult)lifelong quest to find a vacuum cleaner that might actually motivate me to use it as often as I really should. Sam’s is running what looked to me like a decent sale on the Dyson V7 Animal Extra Cord-Free (cordless or GTFO!) so I ordered it. Scheduled to be delivered Tuesday. Hope springs eternal. Will report back re: whether it makes me not hate using it.
Nature abhors a vacuum, and I’m a natural woman. (Well, except for the hair color. Give me a break!)
Has a cord, but very happy with the Shark.
I’ve heard good things about Shark vacs. There was also a cordless Shark on sale for $10 less than the Dyson ($40 off as opposed to $120 off,) but somehow it didn’t look quite as ergonomic to me as the Dyson. I guess I’ll find out.
Nice price. The bulky bagless pet-themed Hoover I bought a decade or more ago was more than that – but the thing works, I’ll give it that. In any event I’ll never buy a vacuum cleaner that needs bags again.
HooverEureka!That was an excellent show.
Loved our little Miele canister for almost 25 years now.
Corded!
::slaps UCS with dueling gloves::
Brooms at dawn it is,
I’m old school. I have three Electrolux 1363/1451s. I love them. They suck. Best vacuums ever.
My wife bought that exact same model a few months ago and it seems to be her favorite so far. Lightweight but does the job pretty much. Different attachments let us use it for lots of chores. Maybe it wouldn’t be so great in a much bigger place but we’ve never really tested the battery capacity in our place.
That’s good to know. Thanks! Our place isn’t very big – only one level – but with off-white plush wall-to-wall carpet and a black cat, I should vac more frequently. I just hate messing with cords. I also insist on a cordless electric string trimmer for the yard.
We gave up on Dysons this year. Our original Animal was awesome back in the day, but they’ve skimped on the plastic for a few years now and they don’t hold up. Choked down the price tag on a Meile upright a few months ago. So far, so good.
I hope the Florida glibs are safe.
They chanted, “We’re here and we’re loud, because we are being robbed of our freedom!”
Police used bullhorns to chide participants to adhere to social distancing rules and to wear masks, apparently with little success. They tweeted that they drew up a criminal complaint against the rally’s organizer for failing to enforce hygiene rules, then said shortly afterward that the organizer had ended the march.
Police estimated about 17,000 people turned out. The demonstrators were kept apart from counterprotesters, some of whom chanted “Nazis out!”
The counterprotestors can go fuck themselves. I’m impressed that many Germans showed up and didn’t follow the rules.
the imperial MARCH but every other beat is missing
America, fuck yeah
The owners of Atilis gym in New Jersey reopened on Saturday by kicking down the wooden barricades authorities used to block their entrance amid coronavirus restrictions.
Co-owner Ian Smith posted a video of himself and his business partner, Frank Trumbetti, kicking the barriers and entering as a crowd cheers their decision. The dramatic display indicated that the months-long standoff between Gov. Phil Murphy and the gym owners wasn’t finished.
Smith’s caption contained a defiant message for New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy: “You will not trample one [sic] our rights and you will not destroy our lives. We will not back down. Ever.”
——-
Tyrants use force to exercise their will – threat of imprisonment, financial ruin, and more,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
“And a tyrant is what we have in office. No science, no data, only conclusive statements with no proof. We presented a plan, a sensible one and opened responsibly – and you decided to make it personal, so now here we are. You will not tread on my rights, you will not ruin everything we’ve worked our whole lives for, and you will be held responsible for your trespasses. #lionsnotsheep”
The Attorney General’s office previously said it blocked the reopening “to abate the public health risks.” According to the Courier Post, an agency spokesperson “the state wishes it had not come to this, but the gym refused to comply even with a contempt order.”
——-
An order from Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli read: “Indoor gyms and fitness centers present particularly high-risk settings for the spread of COVID-19, in part because customers of these facilities engage in physical activities that increase the customers’ respiratory activity, which in turn can increase the amount of respiratory droplets or aerosols in a confined setting.”
Now it’s just petty vindictiveness. Let’s have some facts about contagiousness, not bullshit about “aerosols”.
Heroes.
“Let’s have some facts about contagiousness”
Pretty difficult because they have none.
Their courage shames me. Bravo to them.
Good for them although now our petty dictator will never let gyms reopen. My wife’s gym is gone. She’s thinking of signing up at gym in Stroudsburg, PA.
I’m impressed that many Germans showed up and didn’t follow the rules.
Nazis are notorious for their resistance to the legal consensus.
Atilis Gym owners take back their gym.

Dragon capsule Endeavour has departed the ISS, which was absolutely incredible to see. Splashdown will happen (theoretically) tomorrow afternoon.
Can’t wait for splashdown tomorrow!!
I’m disappointed they aren’t mating the capsule to a booster rocket and flying back.
Kudos on Chet Baker. Excellent choice.
Now, two of the three fucking earworms I’ve had all day. No. Stop it.

Transalation from commie “No one has read a newspaper for years and the idiots who run them are just now figuring out what that means.”
If not enough people aren’t buying them, maybe they aren’t so essential.
My local paper only publishes Tuesdays and Saturdays now. My Sunday routine is gone. They made a poor choice.
The unspoken assumption there is the stupid fucking rednecks don’t have a way to access and share information without the newspaper. They don’t have Facebook, NextDoor, Craiglist, etc etc etc.
I said it years ago, the way to keep a newspaper going was to provide well written, interesting stories. On whatever topic. Dig out the interesting stuff. People will pay for interesting stuff. But that means digging. You gotta go out and find the stories. You need to prowl the neighborhoods. You need to make friends with every pastor, every nosy old lady, every barber and bartender. You gotta be an intelligence agent, basically.
Oh, and they should have absolutely hammered down on the politics when the Internet came along. There’s no reason to buy a newspaper for GO TEAM GO politics anymore. You can get thousands of MY TEAM IS BEST TEAM articles on the Internet. Oh, and honestly probably stopped the syndicated content. Let people get their comics and their CONSENSUS MAINSTREAM OPINION MAN opeds on the Internet. Let them check the AP wire on the AP website.
Aren’t the papers still being printed, just not daily?
I said it years ago, the way to keep a newspaper going was to provide well written, interesting stories. On whatever topic. Dig out the interesting stuff. People will pay for interesting stuff. But that means digging. You gotta go out and find the stories.
We subscribed to the local paper for just this purpose. Turns out that they were only interested in sourcing propaganda from the Associated Press, running syndicated opinion pieces from NYT Times and Washington Post columnists. The few original articles and editorials were extremely left wing. I am deep in deeply conservative, rural VA and the local coverage on the gun sanctuary wave that swept through here made me think I lived in new york city.
We cancelled our subscription. When someone from the paper called begging us to come back, I told them that their anti 2nd A stance wouldn’t hold with me and I look forward to their folding. Good riddance.
The local paper in my hometown has the best layout of any paper I’ve ever read. The rest is trash. They cater to the olds, the sports fans and the lefties. The only reason they remain in buisness is they are the last printshop in the area and are in kahoots with the dying good ol boy system that runs a couple of major businesses and owns a lot of land.
I hope they fail.

“Is Sarah Cooper the Reason Donald Trump Wants to Ban TikTok?
But are national security concerns really behind Trump’s sudden pronouncement? Or is there another reason why the president wants to ban TikTok? Social media had their own answer: It’s all about Sarah Cooper.
Cooper, of course, is the actress and comedian who has come to Internet fame by posting videos of her lip syncing Trump’s speeches and interviews to hilarious effect, whether it’s him denying he retreated to the White House bunker because of a threat posed by protestors, dodging a question about what his favorite Bible phrases are, or, most memorably, recreating his now-famous “People, woman, man, camera, TV” interview. With more than half a million followers on TikTok, Cooper has been written up by The Hollywood Reporter, The Washington Post and The New York Times and appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen Show. (“You make me so happy,” Degeneres said). A profile in the Times of London was headlined: “How Sarah Cooper’s Trump Takedowns Made Her America’s New Comedy Hero.””

Biden Campaign Says He Is So Close To A VP Pick He Can Smell Her
Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden’s campaign announced that he would be making his pick for Vice President soon, adding that the former Vice President had recently stated, “I’m so close I can smell her.”
Biden’s staff says Joe has been pacing the halls of capitol buildings, congress, and the Senate sniffing the air like a starve-crazed bloodhound in search of the perfect female candidate. “He’s huffing longer, deeper inhalations,” said his campaign manager Greg Schultz. “That means he’s getting really close.”

Holy crap. How is she in politics?
That takes willful ignorance.
You don’t believe her, do you?
I do, she had no reason to care what was outside her bubble. She didn’t know anyone that voted for Nixon (or Reagan, or Bush, or Bush, or Trump) either I’m guessing…
But I was poking fun at the typo, along with the stupidity, as we here even when drunk will savage each other over a typo, but somehow these people getting paid to write and their editors can’t be arsed to give a damn, it’s getting annoying.
It would have been epic had she been allowed to campaign in FLA without being briefed beforehand.
I don’t believe her for a second. She is a politician.
It doesn’t say she now thinks Castro was bad, just that she didn’t know Florida voters thought he was bad. She’s a rep from Cal. No reason she would care what those gator wrastlers thought.
Of course she doesn’t care. But she knows.
I’m willing to believe she is that stupid. Maybe I’m wrong. But, she is a California politician.
Politicians are stupid about most things outside of politics but choosing a “hero” and knowing what everyone thinks of their “hero” is completely within their wheelhouse.
85% of the people in her district voted for Clinton in 2016. It’s terrifying to me how many of these people in power are actual commies.
Like, I understand the leftist “Well, Castroy might have started with good intentions, but……” I obviously think they have missed the fundamental problem with Communism, but I can understand the whole “It’s a great theory that’s never worked in the real world.” line of thinking.
But the fact that there are people in actual power in our country who genuinely don’t understand why a murderous dictator is A Bad Guy just shocks me.
Hell, leaving aside the ideology, and the human rights abuses. It used to be axiomatic in this country that “Leader For Life” was a very bad thing, that the country required turnover in leadership, that no one could be trusted to wield power over a span of multiple decades.

END GAME: China/American COLD WAR 2.0 BEGINS
Pax Americana, where we are currently engaged in the 19th year of war in Afghanistan? I know the political games have given leeway to bad actors to ignore the current administrations threats because they know the opposition will do the propaganda leg work for them, but Pax Americana never existed. (Much the same, Pax Romana didn’t either, except within the empire itself, which was forever expanding from ‘The Peace’ victories)
We have been in a cold war with China since 1948.
The stupid part is no one wants to admit it.

“Members of Louisville’s Cuban community plan to gather Sunday in support of a NuLu restaurant owner who says he was threatened by Black Lives Matter protesters during a recent demonstration.
Fernando Martinez, a partner of the Olé Restaurant Group, was one of dozens of business owners in the downtown Louisville district who recently received a letter from protesters laying out demands that aim to improve diversity in the area, which is known for its locally-owned shops and restaurants.
Martinez has publicly denounced the demands on Facebook, calling them “mafia tactics” used to intimidate business owners. And on Thursday, a small group of protesters confronted him outside his newest restaurant, La Bodeguita de Mima, on East Market Street.
“There comes a time in life that you have to make a stand and you have to really prove your convictions and what you believe in,” Martinez wrote in his Facebook post. “… All good people need to denounce this. How can you justified (sic) injustice with more injustice?””

Anyone else here have a Nitecore flashlight? I just bought my first one and arrived yesterday, have a question…
No, I do not own a Fleshlight…oh, you wrote flashlight, an unexpected turn on Glibs.
Jeebus, if I thought anyone else would have a tactical flashlight, it would be someone here. But I get it.
Looks like quite a flashlight. Which one did you get and what are you looking for?
There are a bunch of brands. I have streamlights.

I think I have a Nightcore. And a couple Princeton Tec.

I got the driving like a crazy person out of my system
I don’t drive “crazy”. I drive “spirited”, which means I’ll put a car through its paces. For instance, I’ll lay it out on a on/off ramp*.
*When I first did this in my current car it was weird. It was/is the first car that I owned that had “vehicle stability control**” and this feature make the car feel like a boat when going through a curve, and by that I mean it makes it feel like the car has a “pivot point” like a boat has.
**Luckily all driving “aids” can be canceled by the push of a button so one can still enjoy a more honest handling car. Honda still knows its customers.
I know what you mean, but good luck: I can’t think of the last time I drove an American car that didn’t oversteer so much as to make flogging it hopeless (I know, I know: pickups)
Walked into the break room and found a bag of strechy wrist bands with diversity and BLM graphics. Picked up the bag, tossed every one in the garbage. Nobody said a word.

No, it isn’t, it’s in all our best interest to shut it down forever. Nuke that shit from space.
Who is that guy? I thought FAUCI was in charge of the CDC!? Trump…elected…smart people defected?! *uptwinkles*
I don’t know how many times I’ve complained about this here, I’ve lost tack. If Trump could learn how to stop surrounding himself with the totally wrong people, he’d be a legend, I mean the founders would rise from their graves to say so, but if there is anything that can go wrong, it will go wrong, and once again, it has gone wrong.
Fauci is in charge of one of the sub institutes at NIH. He’s not the head of NIH either.
One positive thing that will hopefully come out of COVID is the destruction of the public school system as we know it.
You and me, girl, you and me, we’re thinking alike.

Back in 1980, I had a friend who was an older guy, I was 20, and I think he was in his 70s. We would fish and camp and hike and hang out all the time. He had the best stories, he was in WW2 and I think the Korean war. The guy was fearless, I really looked up to him.
I don’t even know why I brought this up, I’m just sad, where have these real men gone?
You left off the blowjobs he’d let you give him in the ’78 Chrysler parked in his garage while his wife was in the kitchen making snacks.

Racial injustice, like the under representation of certain races in sportsball? Ok, if that’s what they want, I’m sure that can be addressed with quotas equal to general population percentages…
No one is more oppressed than athletes who get a free ride to college.
This is another case of activist journalism.
They report that the conference has not heard of any of this. So they say “hundreds of athletes are going to opt-out if their demands are not met… but no demands have been sent to the conference. Somehow I doubt that they had hundreds on board before they began reporting this. The game is to report the conference reaction, conference says they take their student’s demands seriously, and BAM! magically it is a serious proposal that athletes suddenly start talking about.
So… back in the world of politics corrupting the judicial system…
The circuit court has decided that they are going to hear the Flynn appeal of judge sulivan’s order to appoint an amicus to act as his version of a special prosecutor to oppose the government’s motion to dismiss the case against Micheal Flynn. The appeals court had ruled that he had no such authority and ordered him to do his duty and issue the order dropping the case. He appealed to the full circuit court – even though he actually had no standing to do so. And they have ordered that the full court hear the case. But not the whole case.
No, the panel of 7 democrats and 3 republicans will consider only one question: Whether a writ of mandamus was the only possible relief. They are sidestepping any of the relevant questions by saying “they didn’t have to issue a writ of mandamus to get Sullivan to do his job”.
So they have signaled what they are going to do. And because the court has done each thing at the last possible moment (or perhaps even after) this entire way, it is clear that they are intentionally drawing it out, further bankrupting this guy even though it is now conclusively demonstrated that the FBI intentionally set him up for prosecution, had no basis for their investigation in the first place, withheld exculpatory evidence and basically bankrupted him into a plea deal (and extortion by threatening to prosecute his son). But the court has signaled that they are going to rule against him and allow Sullivan to continue his charade of threatening to charge Flynn with perjury for pleading guilty when he was in point of fact innocent. Literally, that’s what they are angling for.
It seems that the plan is to continue squeezing Flynn until Trump pardons him. Probably in order to protect the Obama administration from charges that they abused the FBI to go after political enemies.
In this environment, perhaps nobody is going to notice this stuff… but this is one of the greatest abuses of government power in the history of the US. Flynn is just a tiny part of it, but it still should make every civil libertarian livid. The guy is just incidental to these people – but they destroyed his life just because they could.. and now they are just toying with his life in order to score points against Trump and provide the thinnest of fig leafs for Obama. It is just hideous behavior.
It’s outrageous. And everyone involved in stringing this along has immunity for their willfully criminal conduct.
The whole episode is a clown show. The trial court’s position that withdrawing a guilty plea is tantamount to perjury is ludicrous. Plea agreements are entered all the time in order to mitigate punishment.
Under this theory, every person who was coerced into a plea deal has placed themselves in legal jeopardy the moment they seek to withdraw their plea. It’s insane.
And if they refuse a plea offer, they almost always face a stiffer penalty as well.
Alford pleas have been legal for forty years. What judicial rock has Sullivan been hiding under?
The process is the punishment.
Another example: Brett Kavanaugh. The Lefties must have known they couldn’t prove any crime against him or even block him. They wanted to all future non-lefty nominees: we will make your life hell.

A bit late but the only reason any of the people I know voted for John McCain was Sarah Palin. Every media outlet said she hurt him but every person I spoke to voted for her not him.
That was my experience too. There was no enthusiasm for McCain.
Funny that she ended up getting parodied into oblivion as a dumb pretty girl by the super-woke left who say you should never do such things.
I first encountered her in a PBS interview from when she was governor of Alaska. She was talking energy policy and was extremely knowledgeable and seemed quite bright.
But her knowledge was not of broad national topics and the media played “gotcha, I know something you don’t know” games to make her look stupid. I don’t know if she would have been a good national leader, but she certainly wasn’t who they lampooned her as.
I was also surprised to see her alongside Tina Fey playing her. I always thought Tina Fey was pretty attractive. But she looked like the homely little sister next to the much older Palin when they stood on stage together.
Not a real woman, so fair game.

Leaving aside the first part of the yearbook quote, he’s proving the second part is. The only possible reason for a minor quote causing harm at all, let alone needing to speak to a counselor, is because of mental illness.
I gotta agree. I can’t think of any abstract statement that could be made by any person that should cause you to need to speak to a counselor, let alone a statement made by a 17 year old kid.
They also seem to be super-worried about the “editorial oversight” of the yearbook and are investigating. This brings up an interesting point. “There are two genders” is considered hate speech by an incredibly small minority of people. They have been quite loud of late, but absent any context you could ask random adults anywhere in the US “how many genders are there” or better “can you name the genders” and you would almost universally get two, male and female.
Expecting every school teacher to keep up with every possible subgroup’s latest iteration of what they find offensive in every form of slang is unrealistic. “All lives matter” is super racist – if you are steeped in the BLM stuff. But it should be an innocuous and non-controversial statement otherwise.
What if someone wrote “Yakub ruined everything”, would you know what that means off the top of your head? Would you know that this is a super-racist statement acknowledging a widely held belief that white people are not human? According to the Nation of Islam, Yakub was a black scientist who created white people some 6,000 years ago. Now, that is as openly racist as you can get. I mean, old-school definition of racism, not the new BS definitions. But wearing a Malcolm X T-shirt isn’t going to get you kicked out of too many colleges for hate speech. And most schools will happily host speakers from the nation of islam and even allow local chapters to hold events on campus.
So all of this “we need safe spaces and counselors for people who may have read a sentence” stuff is completely disingenuous. They don’t actually believe a word of it.
What time zone is Glib central in? Eastern or central?
My post answered itself. What’s in central time zone anyway? Chicago?
That’s right.
It’s all east coast to me.
Yeah, Chicago, Minneapolis, Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin.
And apparently wherever this site is hosted.
And where SP was located when Glibs was started.
Probably the most important part.
Goddam diabeatez. Eat your oatmeal.
RIP Wilford Brimley.
We’re screwed without the Postmaster General.
Thank goodness they are dumb.

Runners up
– Guy who was ID’d by his grandma’s review of the tac vest she bought for him
– Guy who burned himself holding bottle rocket to aim it at the courthouse.
I love the first one. Grandma sounds like she has a moral code. Don’t know why grandson didn’t get the same one.
His parents went to college.
His white knighting protection of”naked Athena” is cringe worthy.

Messiah so white.
Hey Aloysias! Had a worker that did that sort of thing. I was the employee rep so had to bring him into my office for a closed door meeting. Proselytizing at work is pretty much against the law here and I told him if he didn’t shut up toot sweet he’d be out of a job. It pained me to remind him about it because he was otherwise one of our most productive workers and a really stand-up fellow.
Truth be told he was about 6’2″ and 250 lbs and looked like he had raised a few barns by himself. Physically intimidating Pentecostal fellow. Used to pin up tracts on the bulletin board and preach on the shop floor.
Basically Wayne from “Letterkenny” without the vice.
I was scared shitless of him.
Applewood smoked bacon, smoked cheddar cheese and a Fresh Market cornbread muffin with butter.
Breakfast was delicious and easy. And yes, the muffin was a cheat. It’s the apocalypse and I’m down on the light side anyway.
Brunch will be blueberry waffles and sausage patties. Tennessee Pride FTW.
Yeah. I’m down with the sickness.
Are you really sick?
Alcoholic is a kind of sickness… No, I’m fit as a fiddle dear Red one. Just making a haha.

I need to know what a potato bar is. The kind of joint that you get to throw spuds at the stage?
