Such stunning, much brave. Oh yeah, nobody gives a shit because it’s the WNBA. (I apologize for inadvertently putting it in the sports section.) Fulham is on their way back to the Premier League. With a couple bigger clubs making the trip back up, next year’s relegation watch will be interesting. Adios, Brighton (I bet). I’m still not investing enough energy to get to baseball recaps because I’ll be shocked if they make it to the end of the season. And I’m posting this just so we can get it out of the way before it comes up at some point. Only two of those states really matter, by the way. And the sample size of one of them is too small to really brag about. But that one outlier…it sucks. And that’s sports.
Today’s birthdays include: the first human being to ever set foot on another heavenly body Neil Armstrong, one of the greatest rappers of a generation Adam Yauch, a legendary hockey coach and a hell of a motivator Herb Brooks, the “Elephant Man” Joseph Merrick, directing great John Huston, jazzman Tiny Davis, busty actress Loni Anderson, rocker Rick Derringer, the original Marcia Brady Maureen McCormick, basketball great Patrick Ewing, outfielder Carl Crawford, French nationalist Marine Le Pen, lovely athlete LoLo Jones, and golfers Paula Creamer and Patrick Reed.
That’s some list. Now on to…the links!
This was absolutely insane. And yes, I’m sure drugs are falling out of several asses. But I honestly didn’t even see anything about it until late last night.
Here’s a few primary results (worth noting by CNN). There was a lot of crazy shit that went down yesterday they didn’t mention. So I’ll leave it to you in the comments.
Let’s see him navigate this. Freaking pervert.
Damn, Cincinnati is killing it! They make a connection in the story, but we’ll have to wait and see if they can figure out how to correct it. My guess is: hell no, they won’t.
These idiots are sucking the fun out of life. You do this and you’re gonna completely screw up kids for a generation. Well fuck that. They try it here and my kids will be out of that place in a day.
Speaking of sucking the fun out of life. What a bunch of uptight assholes. Just let these nerds have their fun and leave them alone.
I’m sure this will make it to CNN and MSNBC, right? He’s only tight buddies with Schiff and Liu and has put untold millions into Dem campaign coffers.
Summer vacation gets extended!!!* Well, so long as you’re a teacher it does. Man, what a great gig. You get full pay and get to fuck off even more than you were before. And if people complain, you get to accuse them of trying to kill you. Public Labor Union shops are the fucking best!
More California counties are willing to deprive people of their freedom. And I guess their logic is that they can pass a law compelling people to follow some order that’s not a law. And the constitutionality of that is completely lost on me. Oh yeah, maybe because it’s not constitutional. Fucking tyrants.
Let me guess: this is Trump’s fault? And can somebody prominent please, for the love of God, point out how paternalistic and racist it is to decry how so many minority people aren’t capable of getting themselves to the polling place on time or following the instructions for mail-in voting? It’s racist as shit.
Great intro? Or best intro? Whichever you choose, I hope you enjoy it.
Now get out there and have a great day, friends!
UPDATE: Here is the Big Ten football schedule. It just came out! TTUN in October? Fuck you, Corona!!!!!
Don’t trust links! Links is asshole!
Mornin’ Sloop.
I didn’t have to scroll far to find sociopaths:
Evidence? If so, context?
You found shit in the sewer? Film at 11.
I know, I really shouldn’t have scrolled.
Well antifa doesn’t exist.
I think Dave smith had a good point on this. Stoping vehicles in the road and detaining people is not peaceful. It is an act of aggression. The first few times it happened i think people were a little confused with what to do about it, but i’m at the point that i’m defaulting to giving the benefit of the doubt to people who run these guys over.
Yerp.
Reginald Denny approves this comment.
Well, did that actually happen? I kind of doubt it since they didn’t post the footage in response, but Ngo does slant things a bit much IMO.
Racist!
I have seen enough chicanery from Antifa Twitter that i don’t believe that they are taking it out of context, or using his response to their violence as a justification for their violence. I agree that Andy is slanted, though i think it would be hard not to be when you’ve been assaulted by members of this ideology, as members of the ideology.
No doubt, he stares into a pretty nasty abyss all the time.

Different viewpoint footage.
Doesn’t look like the driver was doing anything wrong.
So the motorcycle was laid down as a barricade so they could physically accost him and he bulldozed it down the street in order to get away. Good for him.
He did nothing wrong.
The Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County reported 13 positive cases of the coronavirus in inmates Tuesday, 10 of which are asymptomatic cases. Zero are currently hospitalized, and zero have died as a result of COVID-19. A total of 205 positive cases have recovered.
Definitely time to run in circles with your hair on fire.
“We’re all gonna die!!!!!!!!”

Ha! I saw the Disney ad start when I opened your link and assumed it was a song from an animated film.
I checked the link again and realized you picked a great song.
I guess I’m getting senile as I turn 50 today.

ugh: if I could share ad-free links, I would; needz moar edgukatshun
I took NewWife to see Billy Joe and tried to explain Waylon Jennings to her; she claims she doesn’t get it, but, then again, she doesn’t really understand why she was ever drawn to me.
Get up Yufus: we’re tawking Teles over here.
Youtube seems to have doubled-down on the ads. Even my adblocker doesn’t work there anymore.
Happy birthday, patriarch!
Have a Happy, Sloop!
Let me guess: this is Trump’s fault?
hard to say
For those in Chicago, the number of shootings in Cincinnati is under 300… or what you would call a week.
We’re not doing much better up north.

Wish that was an option. I’m customer facing, so I need to follow up and make sure that they read my out of office reply, and that the issue got taken care of.
At least I’m up to Sunday.
Then the next step is to dig out of the tickets that got dropped in my queue while I was out…
San Francisco is set to soon cross the 7,000-case mark — an alarming milestone — and still counts more than 50 new cases of the coronavirus a day. Those stats keep the city in the red zone, “on high alert,” and on the state’s watch list. A total of 92 San Franciscans are hospitalized, but that number is “a slight drop from last week,” Colfax explained. Additionally, while the county’s current R0 score isn’t as high as it’s seen in recent weeks (1.34), it’s still not below 1, as it was in April and May.
One “likely” reason for the slowdown in cases: the pause in reopening San Francisco businesses. Colfax noted that if residents continue to wear masks and cases drop, city health officers will “continue to follow the data closely to determine when reopening could begin again.”
“I can’t speculate on a date at this point,” he continued. “We’ll need to follow the data and make an evidence-based decision.”
We will decide what explanation works best for us politically, and get back to you.
None of their decisions has been ‘evidence-based’ since the beginning. It’s all guessing, copying and arbitrary winging.
Sloopy forgot one more important birthday, his own.
Happy Birthday Sloopy!
I don’t buy it. I have to see some ID
Sorry but that is too local for international interest and Glibs won’t be covering it.
*unzips*
Oh, you said ID.
Happy birthday, Sloopy.
Mornin’ Banjos and a BIG Happy Birthday to the man in your life. Congrats’ Sloopy, keep ’em coming!
So Sloopy-ish. Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, Sloop!
Huh, and it’s some other Glib’s on Friday IIRC.
Happy birthday sloopy!
Huh. So a hidden relationship in the mailbox bashing incident.
Happy Birthday sloppy. Thanks for all the disheartening and enraging links. Big Pharma should name a new blood pressure medication after you.
**Sloopy**
Stupid autocorrect.
Happy Birthday Sloopy!
Happy Birthday Sloopy!
Oh yeah, nobody gives a shit because it’s the WNBA
I shall re watch the family guy clip on the WNBA

Yay!
I’m mildly surprised that OSU has only played Georgia once. I guess that’s probably mainly because for so many years the Big Ten and SEC were tied to the Rose and Sugar Bowls, so any years they were both good they would be unable to get a bowl matchup.
It’s a shame. Also, it seems the Big Ten schools are more likely to play OOC games against Big 12 or Pac-12 teams than to do a home and home against an SEC school (who wouldn’t play away from home north of the Mason-Dixon Line before 2018).
Hopefully some of that changes.
I would like to see the SEC add another conference game (which would make 9). On the other hand it would give schools even more incentive to downschedule the others. I think a set of midseason conference v conference games like they had in BB last year would be very popular.
Having nine conference games doesn’t cause any other conferences to downschedule. The ACC and SEC should be penalized for having an extra cupcake…usually in November in the case if the latter.
“The ACC and SEC should be penalized for having an extra cupcake” quoth the guy from the school that plays Dayton, Akron, Miami (the real one), Youngstown State, etc.
[To be fair, there’s been a lot less of that in recent years.]
And if other conferences don’t want to put their schools in the best position to get into the playoff, well, whose fault is that? Let’s face it, a school with two cupcakes and one loss is going to be ranked higher than a school with one cupcake and two losses. Every time.
Personally, I would like to see Florida resume playing Miami (the U-Suk) every year, but with that and florida state it would only leave two cupcakes at most. But to your last point, yeah, the penultimate week of the SEC is usually boring as hell because everyone has scheduled a D II team so they can rest up for the rivalry game at the end. Florida always has a bye week before the Georgia game and a Citadel the week before FSU.
Ohio State plays nine conference games and a marquee OOC game every single season. They generally play a couple in-state FBS schools every year as well, which effectively funds those athletic programs for the full year. And occasionally one of the “cupcakes” is a Cincinnati or Bowling Green, who are in the top 25 or win their conference.
They don’t play FCS schools like all the SEC and ACC teams manage to do and certainly don’t schedule shitbags in November.
Last year we played 3 ranked teams in November and our other opponent went to a bowl. Playing Directional State University because you play Auburn the last week doesn’t carry much weight when we’re playing PSU the week before the TTUN game.
But couldn’t the SEC say that they are funding those FCS schools by playing them? they are just doing their part to help the little guy.
I’m not a huge fan of playing weak teams, but the fact is that the Ranking Cabal loves seeing you stomp on Buckthorn State College, rather than a preseason loss to OOC Power Five Team. As long as a team gets punished for playing other Power Five teams relative to playing an FBS or FCS team, then the teams will continue to not risk it.
Whatever. OSU’s helmets are still covered with sphincters.
anyone who’s played Alabama more than 100 times, please take two steps forward
They’ve played Dayton…never, Akron 3 times since the turn of the 20th Century, Miami a few times, and YSU once.
Whoops, lost track of the time…gotta get going into the office. I will be back for more mutual trashtalking later. Maybe. Depends on what shitstorm is waiting for me.
Were I CFP dictator for the day, the number one thing I’d do is make games against FCS teams count as a loss for playoff consideration, no matter the outcome.
Bison-Venison burgers are on hold due to a shortage of venison. (There is some beef fat in the mix too).
Curse you, Wuhan!
I think there was an bad old English joke “Venison is deer, isn’t it?”
Yes, dear deer that is important to the flavor profile of the mix.
Had the last of 2019 venison last night. Time to think about Nov 2020.
Time to start “accidentally” leaving some corn out in that clearing near your deer stand?
Be a shame if those white tails got fat between now and November eating up all that corn.
Shhhhh, not so loud.
Plenty of venison here, on the hoof. Of course, this is NJ, so the initial step in processing is verboten.
Well if no one sees you…
Clearly you haven’t met my neighbors.
Nighttime bow hunting?
Most likely an apocryphal story, but a friend of a friend claims to have gone hunting for deer. Ranger caught him loading the deer onto his vehicle, and pointed out it was out of season. The friend of a friend said, “There’s no season for knife hunting.” And the ranger let him go.
I can believe you could get successful knife hunting in certain areas out here. The deer have no fear of humans. I can’t believe the ranger wouldn’t arrest/fine him.
Yeah, apocryphal. That’s not the way licensing and seasons work.
I had to delay a meat delivery from Illinois to next week – I guess there is a cow shortage too.
Beef prices have come back down to the high end of normal at the stores.
Not around here.
My purchase is actually prepared Sauerbraten so can’t really compare but their prices haven’t changed in the two years since I last ordered from them. The shipping has increased but even so it’s quite reasonable on a per-meal basis. I bought a bunch of German sausages and beef dishes and it comes out to around five bucks a meal even with the very expensive shipping.
I made burgers out of meatloaf mix this week because it was so much cheaper than ground beef. It was actually ptretty good.
What’s in there besides ground beef?
I mean, my meatloaves are ground beef, ground bison, and diced corned beef, but I doubt the store sells that, let alone for less than ground beef.
At least around my neck of the woods, meatloaf mix is a roughly equal amount of ground pork, ground venison, and ground beef. Last time I looked at it was in the before times though, so I don’t know if the price has gone up, back in the past, it was usually ~$6/pound (about the same price as ground pork here).
According to the package, beef, pork and veal. And fwiw, the store is not next to the animal shelter either.
They put venison in your meatloaf mix? Here it’s always beef, pork, and veal. The mix runs around $3.99 to $4.50 per lb.. Ground beef is coming down from a high this year of $6.99 per lb. for 80/20, it should be around $3 per.
l0b0t:
Nope. That was totally an issue with me carrying shit over from previous threads. It’s veal, pork, beef.
Completely unrelated, but of potential interest to you is that both World Wide Stout and 120 Minute from Dogfish Head are on the shelves again (at least in my neck of the woods).
World Wide Stout and 120 Minute from Dogfish Head
Oooo.. I like both.
I take it back. Was just at the market across the street and ground beef is down a couple bucks from the high. Nice. Still two or three dollars above what I remember as “normal”, though.
Stiglmeier?
They’re excellent.
Yep. It’s been far too long.
I ordered takeout Sauerbraten from a nearby German restaurant the other day. First time in my 10+ years in this neighborhood. It was quite pricey and frankly the frozen dish from Stiglmeier is better so I had a hankering. And their sausages are top-notch too.
Don’t worry, we lost to uga in 1993 too.
And on a same sample size note, GT is 1-0 vs the state of Ohio (Bowling Green, 2018).
On the other hand, Clemson would have to win 18 more in a row to get even with us. They are at 5 already, which is their longest win streak vs us ever. We beat Dabo in 4 of the first 5 vs him, but have since lost 7 of 8. The switch corresponds with the hiring of Brent Venables as DC.
“Conservative firebrand Kris Kobach and indicted Rep. Steve Watkins lost their primary bids in Kansas, perhaps providing the party its best chances to keep the Senate and House seats in party control. ”
He’s such a firebrand that I’ve never even heard of him.
This was absolutely insane. And yes, I’m sure drugs are falling out of several asses. But I honestly didn’t even see anything about it until late last night.
I read in Romanian press that 100 dead 4000 injured and 300000 homeless. The homeless number seems a bit high to me… Bu damn…
They’re probably counting everybody as “homeless” who had their power and water knocked offline for the foreseeable future or live in a building now deemed unsafe.
I bet that number is accurate.
Anyway I blame the Russians
It seems like there’s broad public “support” for that here, but it’s hard to describe. We’re a defeated country that would rather just roll over and accept any “new normal” as long as everyone has to go along with it and rebels are scorned. It’s more like blind acceptance from people that get most of their news from Channel 4, BBC, Sky News, etc, as long as their is an out group they are in opposition to. Having a common enemy to deride and hector is key in bringing people together in the “new normal”.
I was noddng my head in agrrement. Then I realized our pet Limey was the poster.
Yeah, we’re all screwed.
Let’s see him navigate this. Freaking pervert. I mean I don’t want to go stereotypical ephebophilia libertarian on this. but is 15 really a child?
Yes.
I agree, but life in prison is unwarranted for that. He didn’t physically coerce or threaten her.
We have lesser punishments for murderers.
You’re too young, and I’m too well hung but tonight I’m gonna rock you…
It is if the law says it is.
Don’t like it? Fight to have age of consent laws changed. Don’t go banging children (in the eyes of the law) and then crying foul.
Well underage and child is different word wise, children is meant to have a certain effect opn people that simply under the age of consent might not.
Emotionally, 15 year olds are children.
While I feel I need to make the disclaimer I would not fuck a 15 year old…
What age do you think they stop being children?
they stop being children
after changing about 2,000 diapers
27…when they are forced off of their parents insurance.
Honestly, I don’t know because it’s not the same for all people. But in general, a 15 year old lacks the maturity for a man in his 30s to be sleeping with. It’s creepy as shit and predatory.
He was 26 when it started.
It’s creepy as shit and predatory. – I agree with that (95% of the times I assume 30s men can be morons and manipulated) but it is a question for libertarianism when someone can do X be it sex, sign contract etc
I have seen 16-17 year olds who do not have child like bodies I would have a tough time saying no to should they offer… !5 would be a clear no and I think 16 as well but higher than that… I would say if asked I would not go under 20, but being put in the situation, if I am honest with myself… dunno…
Luckily I am not and never will be in the situation to make such a decision
I fucked 15 year olds in the past. It was the 80s. I don’t regret it.
Although by the time I was a senior in high school, I never went to bed with someone under sixteen, and in college for some reason my tastes seemed to have changed to were I only went after girls who were over eighteen. And to top it off, I haven so much as hit on anyone under 21 in decades.
Not going to bars is a dealbreaker?
Yeah, I’m not a fan of there being places I can’t go with a date.
In Michigan, voters complained that they received their ballots just before Tuesday’s vote or not at all, raising fears that political pressure could be affecting the U.S. Postal Service three months before the Nov. 3 presidential election. In Kansas and Missouri, many conservatives chose to cast ballots in person despite the possible health risk, some echoing President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims that mail voting leads to widespread fraud.
Those BASTARDS.
Elections are run locally, are they not? Meaning incompetence and lack of organization could play a fairly significant role in the snafus.
Older schoolkids MAY be forced to wear masks to class in future
Because SCIENCE!
May be forced to.
Fuck DeWine.
Speaking of Dem primaries and all sorts of campaign finance shenanigans…..
Minnesoda DFL party officials file campaign finance charge against Omar’s opponent
He must be doing well in their internal polling if they are taking the time to file these charges. The thing that will really hurt him is that he is working with … corporations! He should just have married his consultants and funneled all the money to them that way.
Christ on a cracker
Could they possibly be more corrupt?
Wasn’t Omar the one setting up fake charity collection sites and using the money for campaigning?
The charity was real. But Omar’s claim to be “partnering” with them was totes fake. She collected money in their name and had no intention of giving it to them until she got nabbed. Then she coughed up the money grudgingly.
Just a case of “which flavor of corruption would Sir prefer on his D party ticket?”
Mushrooms could be a magic cure for depression, if our draconian drug regulations weren’t stuck in the past

OT
Much to my surprise, local utility just restored power, 36 hours earlier than forecast. Guess I’ll have to work today *grumbles*. Thanks for the thoughts in overnite thread.
Election officials throughout the country have challenged Trump’s claims that voting by mail will lead to widespread fraud, saying that with the right safeguards, mail voting is secure. Data from several states with all-mail elections show they have had a tiny rate of potentially fraudulent ballots in recent years.
And the Election Fairy waves her magic wand, and democracy is saved!
Safeguards are racist
Trump, Florida’s favorite election fairy
What exactly is the right safeguard? How do you prevent 3rd parties from filling out the ballots?
My Dad used to tell the story of driving around his rural county on election day picking up the town drunks and taking them to the polls (this would be about 1950). One person would go in early and sneak out a ballot. One of the drunks would be given the filled in ballot and told to vote with it and bring out his blank ballot in return for some moonshine.
Mail in voting makes the same scam even easier. Would it be widespread? Mostly no, but in some areas, absolutely.
States which have had years – not three months – to work out the bugs in the process.
So apparently i live in one of those states. I think someone voted for my wife in 2018 because I keep getting texts from the Democratic Party apparatus about how she needs to vote for the Dem candidates.
I never in my life received political mail or texts or emails of any kind. Since 2018, I have been bombarded with proggy stuff. Like, I get the mailers for true believers. Tumblr Delegate, for example, sent me “MY OPPONENT IS SUPPORTED BY THE NRA!!!!”
I am firmly convinced that someone used my identity in 2018 to vote for the Dems straight ticket.
I keep asking proponents of this if they would send a 100 dollar bill through the mail.
There is a new meme going around… who did it better?
Ok this happened again and it cannot be just a mistype. I had a couple of links and I clicked post and they disapeared

Intro
I like that, Hype. First time I’ve heard it.
The song or just the version with the intro? I went years only knowing the radio version as well.
I’ve heard versions of it, just not that version you linked.
There’s live version with the intro as well, it’s a little rawer as one would expect from a live version.
Biden clarifies he has not taken cognitive test
Good job Joe! calling them crack heads is a winning strategy!
Most professional jobs require a drug test before hire.
Mine didn’t.
Wait, I’m not a professional.
I’m just saying that Biden doesn’t seem to remember the anti-drug culture that hi inculcated as a legislature.
He was a legislature?
Impressive…
My fingers man. They do what they want.
Joe has the same issue.
?
He’s already taken and failed numerous tests. On national media, there for all to see.
Not sure I’d be ranting about taking drug tests for cocaine given some of the antics of my kid.
“C’mon, Man” should be his campaign motto. Geez, do I have to do everything for them?
Add in a “i heard you liked me” and you might get something real good cooking.
And the constitutionality of that is completely lost on me.
#metoo #fytwclause
A Federal Election Commission complaint obtained by the Star Tribune alleges Melton-Meaux’s campaign violated federal election law by “conspiring to intentionally obscure” the identity of political consultants listed as limited liability corporations working on his challenge to Omar in a hotly contested race that has already seen each side raise more than $4 million.
Oh NOES! Teh Dark Munniez!
“The girl told her mother about the alleged sexual encounter later the same day”
wut
“According to the mother, she didn’t report the incident to police at the time because her daughter threatened to harm herself if she did”
Great work Mom.
The guy is undoubtedly a scum bag. It will, however, be interesting to see how different this will be treated than the avalanche of 30-something female teachers fucking teenage boys. My guess is that this guy gets the book thrown at him because of male privilege or something.
He’s fucked.

Went to doc yesterday for annual physical. But first an aside.
Boss’s nephew was told by his employer to get a C19 test – they made an appointment for him so he went at the assigned time. He gets there and is told it is a four hour wait – so he says fuck it and goes home. One week later in the mail – remember this is Chicago so the post office is staffed by retards – he gets his test results: Positive.
Now, my doc visit. I arrive at the facility and check in via phone before I get out of the car. (A good idea probably, except for December, January, and February.) Basically a two-page questionnaire about symptoms I am having. (None.) Then I get sent a text when I can come into the office. (About five minutes, if that.) I walk in, do some silly electronic temperature check, tell the desk clerk my name, have a seat in the waiting room, and about 60 seconds later I am escorted to the examination room.
Check my weight, asked the same symptom questions again, and take my temperature orally. Doc comes in, asks me the same symptom questions again, and then the normal exam/consult. Basically, since I said I had no symptoms three times, C19 was never mentioned again and I got no C19 test.
Then I’m escorted to the blood lab area and wait for about 90 seconds. While I’m waiting, two asshole patients walk by talking loudly into their cell phones and the topic seems to be their paranoia about C19. God forbid they have to walk 30 yards to the exit before they start blabbing on the phone. Then I go into the lab and I can sense the person is perturbed although I can only see her eyes but her tone of voice was the tell. Anyway, she exchanges less-than-pleasantries and then asks me a couple questions (not C19 related) and can’t understand one of my answers so I pull my mask down and answer again. Then she laughs and apologizes and starts ripping on the general asshole patients who under no circumstance will pull their mask down and insist on mumbling – “I’m drawing your blood and you’re more worried about catching C19 from exposing your face???” As she starts drawing my blood we exchange complaints about the general mood and stupidity of society and I mentioned something about masks on small children and then she really starts ripping on the Karens and their mass mask stupidity. The whole thing lasted about 3 minutes and I got the heck out of there.
Sounds like my experience at my physical.
I’ve been tested four times and the wait was never more than five minutes and the results hit my email before I made it home.
How the test results are actually calculated.
LOL
And you folks wonder how NY can be 30 Billion in the hole. You’re all so cute. ;-)
Obesity not defined by weight, says new guideline
https://www.msn.com/en-xl/lifestyle/health/obesity-not-defined-by-weight-says-new-guideline/ar-BB17zg0t
Obesity should be defined by a person’s health – not just their weight, says a new Canadian clinical guideline.
It also advises doctors to go beyond simply recommending diet and exercise.
Instead, they should focus on the root causes of weight gain and take a holistic approach to health.
I was sort of hoping they were gonna say body fat percentage but know… If you are 40% body fat you are not healthy imo. period. Holistic approaches don’t mean shit
Pie the Nazi strikes again!
That might be the dumbest article on the subject I’ve ever read.
Bullshit, fattie.
Translation from Progspeak: I went on a diet that restricted me to 1500 calories a day and didn’t lose any weight. And I ate tons and tons of Snackwells!
Maybe it might just be a semantical difference but you could say that for someone who is truly obese diets don’t work – they need a complete lifestyle change to make a long term difference. But I doubt that is what is being alluded to here.
There was a study based on like 100 people that said diets don;t work and people just repeat that.
Now, a lot of diets don;t work, especially miracle ones. I am sure lots of people have stupid diets that fail. But that does not mean diets don;t work. The right ones do.
True, but I’m not sure what the difference is. You are consuming too much of the wrong types of calories. If you truly want to be metabolically healthy you must stop that. You must restrict carbs, give up sugar and other bad shit. Is that a diet or a lifestyle change?
I think they are the same thing.
Or, as Warty once put it:
“If you want to stop being a fat fuck, stop eating fat fuck foods.”
A diet implies that you can eventually stop dieting and go back to what you were doing before.
Diets work, but going back to what you were doing before doesn’t work.
#ketolife
How keto are you, Sean? I have upped my protein over what is typical, but keeping the carbs really low. I’m not sure that technically counts as keto, as fat becomes the third macro that I give a shit about.
Very very.
Breakfast today was cereal with coconut almond milk (no sugar) and coffee with HWC and coconut oil.
Lunch will be grilled cheddar bacon sausage and a side of roasted brussel sprouts topped with sour cream.
imo some keto diets keep protein too low
Thanks, Sean. Do you do any tracking or blood work?
Pie, I agree. It depends I think on whether you are more concerned with general health vs therapy.
Nope & nope. I mean, I weigh myself daily, but that’s about it.
My doctor is probably gonna give me a hard time about the bloodwork. I was supposed to go pre-apocalypse, but I blew it off.

Why we are doomed: Green space for cities is totes important, so important we need other people to pay for it
A story that I think is supposed to be a “good news” story about a city buying land and preserving it as green space. Unfortunately it just pissed me off more than usual. Why? First off, that neck of the woods is nothing but green space. Why would any small town govt think they needed to buy more? Secondly, the entire purchase ($2.2M) was funded by state and federal grant money. Why are there funds to pay for shit like this?
Green space is so fucking retarded, especially in urban areas where they make the roof green.
As you well know, Memphis is one of the greenest and most beautiful cities in the country including 340 acre Overton Park dead center. Tree-lined boulevards and deep lawns are common as are golf courses (eight inside of 300 square miles for 600k folk).
I love these spaces and would be thrilled to see private conservancy groups take them off the city’s hands. However, I know my favorite urban golf courses are doomed; the demographics and the money aren’t there; they survive only by public prop; the idea of my favorite course eventually falling into developers’ hands is sickening, but, good news: I ain’t gonna live forever.
We had a 10 acre parcel of land near our house when we moved in that was completely undeveloped. Everyone had turned it into our own dog park and kids would play in the woods and ponds there. Then one day, it was sold to a big drug company who ripped everything out and built a campus on it.
Everyone was horrified that our own little piece of heaven was gone, but what can you say? It wasn’t our land and we sure hadn’t paid the owner for all those years we used it. Good for him for cashing out.
But to your point, I completely understand the feeling people get when stuff like this happens. It sucks.
ps. I was going to was eloquent on the fun times I had in Overton Park, especially visiting nearby Silky Sullivan’s, but when I looked it up I saw Silky’s is on Beale now. What gives with that? I remember when they stopped making their Diver drinks in metal cans because too many Marines and sailors were showing up at sick bay with circular cuts on their heads from where someone had clonked them with one of those metal cans.
Silky’s is on Beale now
I’m a dive guy and not synced up with where the cool kids go. Beale is a full-blown pedestrian tourist trap now without so much as a pool hall. Overton Square survives much the same, but the closest I ever got to it was Huey’s.
The Sears warehouse is now a multiverse. I had the same idea 30 years ago, but it never occurred to me to have the state pay for half of my investment; I’m retarded that way.
Cleveland would like a word… over 20,000 acres of parks through the county and city. They’ve got 8 golf courses scattered around (no idea about the quality… as I don’t golf).
And we’ve got a world class orchestra. 🙂
Edmonton’s similar. Largest urban forest park system in North America. We like to rub it in to the Vancouverites who are always going on about how big Stanley Park is. (They do have nice big cedars, though.)
My park is 6.1 Million Acres*.
*I would rather they abolish it and let the landowners use their lands as they see fit.
Around me the park service buys green space and then keeps anyone from going there.
My co-worker solved the green space problem by buying a house in the Poconos.
Those Primary results are worth talking about but not in the flavor that the Dems would like.
Imagine being employed by an icky Republican. Go, girls! TAKE THAT, TRUMP!
Nothing like the feeling of power you get by pissing all over the person who signs your paychecks.
Imagine being a woman employed by another woman to play a game for money – and being so disrespectful, resentful, unappreciative, and bitchy that you openly hope a man takes her job.
Hey, they can Dream can’t they?
Imagine the howling if the NBA starts hemorrhaging money because of their wokeness and decide that to cut costs they will stop subsidizing the WNBA. Those fierce women will have to go get real jobs.
Oh, fuck her though for those sleazy stock sales.

Sob story
Melissa Hickson says her husband was denied potentially lifesaving treatment because doctors at the hospital made a decision based on their biases that, because of his disabilities, Michael Hickson had a low quality of life.
The hospital says it acted based on the man’s dire medical prognosis and that it would have been pointless and cruel to give him invasive treatment.
Michael Hickson’s death has become a cause among many with disabilities, an emblem of a medical system that they believe views their lives as having less value, even before a pandemic put doctors and hospitals under stress.
And now Hickson’s death may get the scrutiny of a federal civil rights office.
ADAPT of Texas, a disability rights group in Austin, sent a complaint on July 24 to the federal Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services. And on Friday, the National Council on Independent Living filed a similar complaint to ask the Office for Civil Rights to open an investigation into Hickson’s death.
“In Mr. Hickson’s case, the issue is not abstract,” the complaint says. “The treating professional for Mr. Hickson made a discriminatory determination that, due to his disabilities, Mr. Hickson’s life would not be supported.”
——-
Anderson says a medical team — of doctors, palliative care specialists, a chaplain — made the decision that Hickson could not survive further treatment. The team then got signoff from Michael Hickson’s medical guardian.
A Texas probate court earlier this year had stepped in and appointed an elder care agency to make medical decisions for Michael Hickson. That happened after Melissa Hickson disagreed with a previous hospital. She says it wanted to discharge her husband to a nursing home. She insisted he needed more specialized care at a brain and spinal cord injury center.
It’s not unusual for caregivers and medical staff to fight. It’s unusual, though, that a probate court would step in.
Anderson says that tape recording Melissa Hickson made — of the doctor at the hospital saying her husband had no quality of life — was just a miscommunication. He says the doctor misused the term “quality of life” and that he wasn’t saying the hospital was ending care because her husband was disabled.
Keep that heart beating, no matter what.
Plus, they killed him because he was black.
Taking my dad to the VA they were always pushing stuff on him about it would be OK if he didn’t want to live anymore. Every time, no matter what we were there for.
No shit it is unusual for a probate court to appoint a medical guardian in place of a spouse. You’re getting into Terri Schiavo territory there.
Yeah, the article has a tone of being in the wifes favor, but even still the idea that she disagreed with the hospital, so they got a Medical Guardian assigned is creepy in them most innocent of circumstances.
Gross.

“…We call it supporting the human race and morals.”
Seattle guard Jordin Canada added that this “is bigger than basketball. We’re more than athletes. To have someone in our league that doesn’t represent or support African Americans, who are 80% of our league, is disheartening, honestly, and sickening.”
To have someone in our league that doesn’t represent or support African Americans,
My how the tables have turned. I remember when it was brave to stand on principle and not just go with the crowd. Maybe Nike can sponser the guy.
Fuck the NBA. They sucked even before they started virtue signaling. It stopped being entertaining after the Jordan era ended.
The Jordan era was the NBA’s suicide note.
“We’re more than athletes”
No, you’re not.
Prediction: it’s going to be worse here.
And that’s where the article should have ended.
The Coronavirus Is Never Going Away
People seem to have no ability to grasp this fact. Australia is now a gulag, CA is close, NJ may never reopen gyms and restaurants. None of it will matter, people will still get the covid.
So pretty much like almost every disease in human history?
What safety-obsessed pussies we’ve become. Polio was 1000x worse than Kung Flu and parents weren’t screeching to keep their kids out of school and/or shut down society. You lived with a certain risk and you took reasonable precautions. You did not (if you were mentally healthy) cower in fear and demand that the World reorder itself to assuage your paranoid fears.
glad to see the Atlantic has come to my perspective of ignore and live your life. Oh wait probably not.
Wow that article was more of a tacit acknowledgement that lockdowns don’t work and preventative precautions are next to pointless than I thought it would be.
We knew this from the onset. Coronaviruses don’t ever go away.
Which is why the mask thing scares me. They can keep this going on and on and on.
Unless people grow a pair and say ENOUGH. I accept the risk!
PASS.
As if that will be a choice.
Booster shot every 4 years. Mandatory. Only available on election day in states not located on an ocean coast, because science.
That worm story was too much.
Ms Longfield told BBC Breakfast earlier: “The scientific advice at the moment is that face coverings isn’t necessary [in schools].
“We know the risk both of children catching the infection and transmission, primary and nursery, is very very low.
“It’s still low for secondary school aged children, but there may be some children who feel more comfortable with a mask on.
“So I don’t rule it out. I don’t think it’s something that should be a blanket introduction as yet unless the scientific advice is to do so.
“But if it means schools stay open and people have confidence, I wouldn’t want to rule it out either.”
It’s child abuse.
The time has come to STOP listening to medical bureaucrats. POLITICIANS need to make these decisions based on their advice and that’s all.
It’s still low for secondary school aged children, but there may be some children who feel more comfortable with a mask on.That’s called a lovie, and it’s for infants.
Wasn’t there some discussion recently about some carnival sharpshooter and her (significantly older) husband?
I think there’s a difference between seducing a 15 year old girl, and marrying a 15 year old girl and loving her so much that when she died decades later you quit eating and followed her 18 days later.
Like, yeah, it’s not ideal either way, but there are degrees of it.
also, a 15 year old in 1875 was at a different maturity level than a 15 year old today.
If the 15 year old is able to pay off the family’s mortgage by game hunting, I gotta side with you on this one.
Wut?
What I would give to be the judge assigned to that case.
Seriously.
I’m not optimistic about the outcome of this though. It is Seattle.
If that is their unbridled force, I’m guessing that SPD has neither guns, nor automobiles, nor pointy sticks.

They know this which is why they can’t let it happen. They are holding kids hostage for political reasons. They can’t even let the pioneers take the arrows on this one, the brave private schools opening up are probably going to get ridden out of business by the state health departments.
It’s just hilarious they are so transparent about it, in some places offering to babysit the kids instead of teach them.

Emilee Nelson, an acquisition expert for The Conservation Fund, characterized the move as a win-win-win: more recreation for Baxter residents, continued protection for the military base, and long-term preservation of the region’s woods and waters.

It has been fairly cool here in Minnesoda for the last week or so. Last night I decided I’d burn up some of the brush that tends to accumulate over the summer here in Sunny Suburbia. I dragged out our portable fire pit and started a fire. Then I sat nearby watching Netflix on a tablet having a grand old time.
Until the legs on one side of the fire pit decided they had had enough and broke sending the contents onto the lawn. Pretty exciting. Luckily I am responsible enough to always have the hose handy when I make fires, so I was able to douse the fire before too much happened.
Looking at the damage this morning, I think I got off pretty easy. Probably about a 2 foot diameter burn in my backyard lawn.
Been cool here too. The last two nights I forgot to take a sweat shirt to work and was shivering on my vape breaks.
Sweden versus USA in 2 charts.
A lot of the deaths and all the economic hardship in this country is self-inflicted idiocy.
American obesity rate is over 35%, Sweden’s is about 20%.
Honestly, that’s the biggest factor. It’s why the OMG RACIAL DISPARITIES are a canard as well. Blacks in America are fatter on average than Hispanics, who are fatter on average than whites.
Yeah, but it is totes racism that makes those blacks and mexicans fat
This food dessert is making me fat.
The white leftist who never actually interacts with black or Hispanic people have this weird delusion where all the poor people in the inner city are prowling the streets, searching for fresh produce, desperately seeking it out, before finally being forced into the fast food chain by the ravening hunger. They choke down the burgers, wishing with every bite it was a nice kale salad with a squash risotto and some seared salmon. They weep at their children, eating their Happy Meal, and curse the racism which echoes down from the Middle Passage, to the slave block, to Jim Crow, and finally manifests itself in the 2 for 5 dollar Whopper deal.
Not only that, they claim that hunger causes them to get shooty.
“dessert”
Indeed.

Ho-oley Eef! He was about a mile away from where the blast happened – but seems to be across the bay so a straight shot – and the shock wave blew out his car’s windows and seems to knock his car off the road.
I actually enjoyed the first few seasons of the WNBA.
I was living in Houston at the time. The NBA was so disparately trying to cause a NY v. LA finals by packing the “best” players onto those two teams and organizing the schedule to make it happen. And hyping the everloving fuck out of those teams in their ad buys.
Then Cynthia Cooper and the Comets won it.
Knicks aint makin no finals
WNBA is great. Acting badass while sucking is always fun.
My father is a Lynx bobo.
In fairness to him, he does have a point in that the WNBA doesn’t have as many preening dolts playing in it. And it helps that the Lynx have been champs multiple times in the past. He also likes it because the players aren’t such physical freaks, they have to play as a team to get scoring opportunities.
So him I forgive. My sister on the other hand is supposedly also a Lynx fan, but all she does is grief about how they never get their due in the paper because of sexism. That gets tiring.
The local high school boys basketball team has a similar dynamic, and it only costs $5 to get in.

It puts the mask on its face.
Last week Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to provide free masks for everyone in America including those in prison and the homeless.
Sanders leads a team of 14 Senators championing mask availability in America, claiming it could prevent “tens of thousands of deaths COVID-19” and could produce economic benefits up to “$1 trillion.”
Under the Masks For All Act, everyone would receive a package of three high quality, reusable face masks, “free of charge.” These masks would be delivered to people’s homes through the U.S. Postal Service, and to those without mail service would be able to pick up the maks at post offices, pharmacies, schools, public transportation stations, and COVID-19 testing sites.
The bill would also provide needed surgical masks and N-95 respirators to all workers in health settings.
These Democrat Senators are seeking a whopping $5 billion in federal funding in order to execute the plan.
“Free” seems to always cost a lot.
Free laundry service to wash them every day or GTFO.

Seriously, what the hell happened in Beirut? I find it hard to believe that amount of careless incompetence were possible. Something seems real shady.
meh. It is beirut.
Can’t say about Beirut, but this level of incompetence was par for course in Moscow in the 90s.
I assume that similar things on a somewhat smaller scale happen all the time – just not usually in such a highly populated area.
I’m assuming their are “security services” that keep an eye on stuff that can be used to make bombs and if you have that much material in one place, there may be something fishy going on.
China seems to be having a worse summer than us – floods, snow, and political instability.
Is it wrong to hope these mounting problems cause the CCP to collapse?
Okay with me as long as they don’t lash out and start a nuclear war.
Its not wrong but I fear it will just become more authoritarian.
China has Alwyas been authoritarian. But it would Halt their outward territorial expansion, provide an opening for territories to break away, and end the stupid reliance on cheap knockoffs made by their slave laborers.
I don’t harmor realistic hopes that the Republic in Exile could make gains on the mainland during a CCP collapse.
And how could you get more authoritarian than the CCP? Where are they being lax about putting the boot to freedoms?
Dude, this is the nice cop version of the CCP. Go back to pre Deng days to see the bad cop version.
Yeah, it can easily get much, much worse. See Xinjiang for clues.
The political structure of today’s China is not as monolithic as they want it to be seen. It wouldn’t be beyond possibility to see it fracture into a handful of competing states – each competing to rule the whole country/region.
It would be interesting to see it regress to the fractured entity it was 100 years ago with various warlords/industry leaders ruling over big swaths of the map with the in between cities/towns just holding their own – each city/large town with its own political structure.
Alright, caught up on the new tickets (with two of them caused by one of the idiot Tier 1 guys doing something he’s been told can’t be done multiple times over the past 2(?) years)…
DeCommieo: Every weather event is because of my climate religion.
During a press conference on Tuesday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) stated that “What we’re seeing here” with Tropical Storm Isaias “and what we’ve been seeing now for years, is the result of global warming.” De Blasio added that global warming is leading to “more and more pressure on coastal areas all around the world” and that “We’re seeing problems in cities all over the world because of global warming.”
After urging New Yorkers to take precautions during the storm, de Blasio said, “Now, let’s talk about the bigger reality. What we’re seeing here, and what we’ve been seeing now for years, is the result of global warming. We’ve been seeing more and more pressure on coastal areas all around the world. Some of you may have been following the horrible flooding in Bangladesh right now. We have a big Bangladeshi community here in this city. We’re seeing problems in cities all over the world because of global warming. This is not an abstraction, especially for New Yorkers after Sandy. As I say, after Sandy, there were no more climate change deniers in New York City. We experienced it. We lived it. We’re not going to ignore it.”

Blah blah heroes
We wouldn’t be in this mess of uncertainty about the coming school year if the federal government had managed to control the virus; any glimmer of leadership from the president would have gone a long way. Grievances and fear are understandable. I support teacher-led campaigns to make sure that safety measures are in place. And any city or state experiencing a spike in cases should keep schools shut, along with indoor businesses.
What I don’t support is preemptively threatening “safety strikes,” as the American Federation of Teachers did in late July. These threats run counter to the fact that, by and large, school districts are already fine-tuning social-distancing measures and mandating mask-wearing. Teachers are not being asked to work without precautions, but some overlook this: the politics of mask-wearing have gotten so ridiculous that many seem to believe masks only protect other people, or are largely symbolic. They’re not. Nurses and doctors know that masks do a lot to keep us safe, and that other basics such as hand-washing and social distancing are effective at preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
Instead of taking the summer to hone arguments against returning to the classroom, administrators and teachers should be thinking about how they can best support children and their families through a turbulent time. Schools are essential to the functioning of our society, and that makes teachers essential workers. They should rise to the occasion even if it makes them nervous, just like health-care workers have.
——-
I was terrified when I started taking care of COVID-19 ICU patients. Before my first COVID-19 shift, I had panic attacks that made me wheeze, and I walked onto the unit my first day in tears (so in addition to being terrified, I was also really embarrassed). My co-workers felt similarly. I heard an attending physician say, of her daughter, “What if she loses her mother?” and I read through a young nurse’s freshly written will, no joke.
In those early days, I confessed my anxieties to an acquaintance, and he asked whether I could take a medical leave of absence. I could have taken a leave, and teachers in need can too. (And parents who want their children to stay home have that option, whether through homeschooling or continued remote learning.) But I said, “No, I can’t just chump out!” Chump wasn’t the right word—at the moment, I was almost hysterical, and it was hard for me to even articulate how I felt, called upon to do something frightening and hard that I viscerally did not want to do.
The military language people used when discussing COVID-19 in the spring seemed totally appropriate, and in a way that mentality got me through the peak: This was a war, and I was a soldier. It wasn’t my choice to serve, but it was my duty; I had skills and knowledge that were needed.
So I can understand that teachers are nervous about returning to school. But they should take a cue from their fellow essential workers and do their job. Even people who think there’s a fundamental difference between a nurse and a teacher in a pandemic must realize that there isn’t one between a grocery-store worker and a teacher, in terms of obligation. People who work at grocery stores in no way signed up to expose themselves to disease, but we expected them to go to work, and they did. If they had not, society would have collapsed. What do teachers think will happen if working parents cannot send their children to school? Life as we know it simply will not go on.
Too terrified to work? Okay. Don’t expect a paycheck. By the way, how did that whole “certain death” thing pan out?
President Cartoon Villain’s to blame. For everything.
This is one of those rhetorical phrases you get to say, and no one will call you out on it. What on earth was the Federal Government to do that the state governments were not already doing? Should they have issued a Nationwide shutdown? Because the studies I’ve seen show that 70% of the cases of the virus came through New York. So forcing South Dakota to do so wouldn’t have helped. If you solution was to go full Melbourne, i’m gonna call bullshit on your “we need to stop police brutality”. If the solution was make travel to and from New York illegal, well fist that would be impossible, and Saint Cuomo already said that would be a federal declaration of war.
No it seems that what the Federal Government failed to do was usher in Socialism, and that the Senate refused to remove Trump from office. I’d hate to say what would have happened in a Hillary Presidency, but i don’t know if it would have been taken to this level of craze.
What they failed to do was quarantine New York City and rebuke the lockdown fiends for interfering in interstate commerce.
If the CIA had properly infiltrated China and learned of the virus the moment the first case was diagnosed a surgical nuclear strike would have ended the virus. Trump should have nuked Wuhan, China last fall!
You may be exaggerating, but if we had a competent intelligence service, maybe we would have picked up on this earlier. Instead they were busy trying to depose Trump.
I’ve heard it put this way: It’s easy to compare what Trump did to what an imaginary president, who exists only in your head, would have done.
When some of my husband’s students told him that they had continued working as cashiers throughout the spring and summer, he said, “Wow, that’s so courageous of you.” He feels that he doesn’t really have anything to show for himself, and he looks forward to the time when he will. Now, contemplating the possibility of teachers striking, he says, “Bowing out wouldn’t be a good example to set for our students.”
Teachers signed up to be a positive adult presence in children’s lives, and to help them grow up with their peers, at school, away from home. We need them to follow through, even though it’s a challenge. It’s going to be hard; it’s going to be stressful; it’s not going to be perfect. “I can’t think of one time that there was actually hand soap in the men’s bathroom,” my husband told me. That’ll have to change, hopefully for good. The point is that everyone is going to have to go above and beyond. But teachers are smart and adaptable. They can do this.
Steel your nerve, and storm that beach, Drama Queen Battalion!
But that doesn’t allow the teachers union to agitate for socialism and marxist platforms.

“All Lives Matter”
This whole thing has, to my mind, fully exposed the hypocrisy of the zeitgeist.
“All Lives Matter” is unaccepted racism. It doesn’t matter who says it or why they say it, it is racist and cannot be tolerated. It gives cover to racists, it denies the atrocities being committed against Black, Indigeneous, and Persons of Color (never mind the questionable grammatical correctness in that formulation, I’m sure grammar is racist too), it is barely one step removed from “Blood and Soil”.
“Black Lives Matter” is not in any way attributable to Marxism, despite being the slogan of an organization whose members are avowedly Marxist (though, like good Fabian foot soldiers, the Marxism is getting scrubbed from anything that’s highly visible), and despite the inherent implication of the formulation that other lives matter less.
That slogan is a perfect crystallization of exactly what Marxism is all about. Gaslight, attack when challenged on the plain facts, etc. etc. It’s terrifying how successful they have been with it.
when my daughter is inevitably murdered, like Breonna Taylor
Very sane statement, not at all hysterical
Statistics are no doubt also a tool of white supremacy.

“when my daughter is inevitably murdered, like Breonna Taylor”
Simple fix; support the ban of no-knock raids. You don’t need a marixst revolution for that.
As his colleagues, we defend the right of Dr. Risch, a respected cancer epidemiologist, to voice his opinions. But he is not an expert in infectious disease epidemiology and he has not been swayed by the body of scientific evidence from rigorously conducted clinical trials, which refute the plausibility of his belief and arguments.
Next you’ll chastise your “unqualified” colleagues for making sweeping pronouncements about climate change, right?
RIGHT?
Well seing as they had an economist sign that one, i don’t know if they really care about someone being “unqualified” as much as “making a different argument”.
But it is o.k. to be lectured by some tv personality about wearing masks and keeping six feet apart (unless attending the funeral of some Democrat icon or taking part in a violent protest.)

Ex-Feminists Show Off Their Transformations
You’ve all seen the memes about what meth does to people, with the before and after shots, right? A very similar meme shows women before and after feminism got hold of them in college. From shaved heads to pierced faces, the once cheerful and feminine demeanors are replaced by snarling, masculine, and overweight visages that would scare any child in the dark. Modern feminism is a cancer and its effects on the body and mind appear to be terminal. (Language warning on NSFW video)
It’s terribly tragic that to be accepted as a feminist a woman must destroy her beauty, with each one trying to outdo the other on how unattractive they can be. As if, somehow, rejecting feminine beauty and making oneself as ugly as possible balances the scales with men.
Recently on Twitter, a group of women who did recover from third-wave feminism and it’s catastrophic effects on the mind and body posted before and after photos. These women found faith in God, turned themselves around, and became ex-feminists. These transformations should give hope to the families of those victimized by radical feminist ideology in colleges everywhere.
“I was getting older, so I let my hair grow out, took out my piercings, and found a sap to marry.”
Its good that some of them grow out of it. I find a lot of the girls on there talking about having found themselves and becoming more at home with themselves is what led to mellowing out. Which is intersting. Its like when they are the radical freak femenists, they aren’t feeling empowered, but when they find purpose they realize they can be themselves without that meaning having to be a freak. Go figure.
X-Feminist https://youtu.be/X8LitnrRF9U
Wow, that’s a band I haven’t thought about in 30 years. A friend did a lot of their cover art.
My lovely niece declared that she didn’t want to date in college so that she could just focus on her degree. She reasoned that she could hold off the guys if she dressed in baggy clothes and died her hair blue.
Her efforts were not sufficient to cover up her charm, so she attracted suitors anyway.
I guess she lacked that scowling, bitter feminist rage face.
Personality is more effective than makeup in making a girl prettier.
Personality can also make an otherwise attractive girl ugly.

Tired of the same old anti-Trump fearmongering?
Now, under President Donald Trump, The Bomb is experiencing something of a renaissance. Trump is planning to spend more than $1 trillion on the US nuclear arsenal over the next three decades. Even though we have much better things to spend the money on, such as responding to the coronavirus and rebuilding the economy, advocates for The Bomb have convinced Congress to fund nuclear programs to replace the submarines, bombers and land-based missiles as if the Cold War never ended. Most members of Congress are simply not willing to challenge the Pentagon officials and defense contractors who promote new nuclear weapons, out of fear that they will be attacked by their opponents as “soft” on defense.
At the same time, the Trump administration is abandoning arms control agreements. Trump withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty last year and is refusing to extend the New START Treaty which expires in February 2021. This would leave us with no verified limits on Russian nuclear forces for the first time in five decades, and likely lead us into a dangerous new arms race.
——-
The threats from The Bomb have not gone away. In fact, they have grown worse over time. President Trump has sole authority to start nuclear war. He could launch nuclear weapons first in response to a false alarm, a danger compounded by cyber threats. The Air Force is rebuilding US land-based ballistic missiles for $100 billion even though it could increase the risk of starting nuclear war by mistake.
The BOMB! Sole authority! Utter annihilation! He’s a MADMAN!
Think of what we could do with that money. Why, we could end poverty, ignorance and racism. We could make America a (socialist) paradise, the likes of which has never before been seen.
Now do President Biden.
Push Ups War
Also, he actually does not.
Once again the criticism boil down to “I don’t like Trump”. Because i think presidenst before Trump had the power to start nuclear war single handedly.
All 44 previous Presidents were completely cool headed chess masters who would never have shot from the hip or made a snap decision in error.
Meanwhile, going back to America’s Second Crusade wherein I learn that FDR came up with “unconditional surrender” as an American and thus Allied policy because he thought it sounded really really cool, and spurned multiple offers from the anti-Nazi elements in Germany to open up negotiations for a coup and peace treaty after Stalingrad.
I dislike FDR as much as anybody here, but I gotta say that I’m pretty sure that in the ETO, the unconditional surrender insistence (and refusal to work with Canaris, et al) was really Churchill-driven.
You know, if we’re being completely honest, the President doesn’t have the sole authority to start a nuclear war. He has the authority to order the use, or non-use, of nuclear weapons. Whether the DoD and military carries out those orders is up to them as individuals. They must follow all lawful orders but whether the use of nuclear weapons is lawful is not solely determined by the President’s word.
And let us not forget, the President having this authority is because many of the generals originally believed that they alone had the authority. Truman codified this rule over MacArthur’s objections.
“..such as responding to the coronavirus and rebuilding the economy,“
I’ve got a grand idea: the government should stop responding to the coronavirus at all, and then also don’t do ANYTHING about the economy. It will self correct if it is left free.
Arms races don’t ever really stop. All countries develop military tech and stockpiles as best they can.
“…over the next three decades. Even though we have much better things to spend the money on, such as responding to the coronavirus and rebuilding the economy…”
Over the next three decades. Trump is going to still be spending federal money when I’m in a nursing home! Also, the writer is acting as if all of the money is going to be spent this week. And I’ve seen no evidence that these assholes are even slightly interested in rebuilding the economy.
Didn’t realize Yates was testifying about the Russia investigation. I might listen to it. IIRC her name was one of the ones there when Obama directed Comey to investigate Trump.
Doubt you’ll get any real answers. It’s not like lying to congress counts for much.
She seems pretty prepared in her opening statements. She is defending Obama, saying that it was totally legit and that he was just concerned about sharing national security information.
Now we are getting into questions.
Lindsey Graham, asks her about the Horowitz report.
“I’m not saying you lied, I’m saying you signed something that was a lie”.
Graham is hitting her on the fact that the FBI was saying to drop the charges, before they discussed the getting him on the Logan Act.
She’s not doing well, trying to justify herself because she didn’t know what was going on.
Nothing useful will go on here.
Sen Leahay tried to get in some “You hate women” points because Graham keeps interrupting her.
She’s not doing very well.
She said that “You could say that” when asked if Comey went Rouge.
First step in transitioning.
It’s a holiday in Cambodia,
It’s tough, kid, but it’s life
It’s a holiday in Cambodia,
Don’t forget to pack a wife…..
Now Feinstein is talking about how Flynn lying to the FBI justifies their investigation of Flynn. Sally Yates keeps talking about how this was about a legitimate need to investigate the Trump Campaign. I hope someone takes here to taks on that, because it is a massive stolen base. The Horowitz Report showed that their was no legitimate need to investigate the campaign.
They weren’t investigating the campaign, they were investigating Trump.
Like someone said above, the truth will out – in about 50 years.
If only. The HUAC, Hollywood blacklist, and Joe McCarthy are all rolled into one giant McCarthyism. Most people think FDR got the US out of the depression with the new deal. And so on.
I’m quite disgusted by Yates. She is essentially saying that an incoming administration cannot tell the foreign power to slow down because they plan to have a change policy.
Yates has one goal in mind, cover her ass.
That said, the entirety of the Democratic governing strategy now seems to be “You can’t undo what we did.” Unfortunately, Roberts seems to agree,
Feinstein seems incredibly lost. She keeps asking questions that i think makes Yates look bad.
She’s only as old as Methuselah
I’m reminded of Barnes saying Sally Yates is corrupt. Remember that.
Grassley asking her about why she approved the FISA application if she knew that Steele was doing opposition research for either the DNC or Hillary.
Go Chuck Go!
Seriously, the guy talks as slow as molasses.
She’s flipped. She is telling Grassley that the meeting with Obama was not about an investigation, but to Grahm she made it clear it was about a counter intelligence investigation. She says that the closing the investigation of Flynn was before they knew about the calls with Kysliak so them interviewing was totally legit.
Not sure if i can listen to much more. It’s all the same. Flynn was totally a legitimate target, Obama wasn’t directing an investigation, she doesn’t remember who mentioned the Logan Act, but Everything was above board by her account. Even though we know all the information about it not being above board.
IMO this is one of those things that is so blatantly obvious is corrupt, but because it was everyones favorite president doing it to everyones most hated president, we will see nothing happen.
In 100 years it will be recognized as a great example of political corruption.
Grahm just hit her up. Told her that she prosecuted flynn just because he had a policy differenc from the Obama admin. She is really talking out of both ends of her ass. She Is saying it was a counter intelligence investigation, but that the investigation was valid because he was “undercutting” the policy of the Obama Admin (which w wasn’t, unless here policy was for Russia to retaliate). The thing is that would be a Logan act investigation, something she is arguing was not happening.
The GOP is using this to get her to shit on Comey.
“I don’t know how i would characterize Comey’s behavior” – Yates
“You don’t know? Isn’t the FBI director a direct report to the deputy AG?” – Cornyn
Aaaah, Sally Yates was a shitlord way before she went after Trump.
I’m in a meeting so i can’t see Mike Lee’s questions, but i will want to go back and see what he asked.
Once again the criticism boil down to “I don’t like Trump”. Because i think presidenst before Trump had the power to start nuclear war single handedly.
Scary Orange Maniac is scary.
OLDER kids may have to wear face masks in future, the children’s commissioner suggested today.
Fucking ridiculous.
San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties both passed ordinances enforcing fines on people who don’t follow local or state COVID-19 guidelines on wearing masks. Both counties’ Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the emergency ordinances, and they enforce the same fines for people: $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense and $500 for further violations within the same year.
Fuck them.
It’s a self sustaining reaction at this point. These jurisdictions need the revenue that they have lost from the shutdowns, so these mask fines are a way to recoup the revenue. There will be no help from the courts, because the judges know their paychecks are on the line too. It’s always about the money.
A group of PA bars plan to open up at 100% capacity in defiance of Gauleiter Wolf’s orders
Restaurant and bar owners plan to issue a threat to Gov. Tom Wolf later this week: “We’re going to stand together and open up at 100%,” said Rod Ambrogi, a restaurant owner in Bethel Park.
The warning comes nearly two weeks after 42 politicians formally asked Wolf through signed letters to ease up on his July 15 restrictions on restaurants and bars — especially the one that limits dining rooms to 25% capacity, a decrease from the 50% that had been permitted.
The letters were sent to Wolf and Health Department Secretary Rachel Levine on behalf of restaurant and tavern owners across Pennsylvania. Among those who signed the letters were state legislators Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills; Sen. Pam Iovino, D-Mt. Lebanon; Rep. Jason Ortitay, R-South Fayette; and Rep. Mike Reese, R-Mt. Pleasant.
Civil disobedience is what is needed.
I saw no civil disobedience last weekend. None at all.
Civil disobedience would be verboten. I didn’t have strangers sitting next to me at any bar whatsoever, and did not enjoy talking to random people who were not wearing masks.
Funny, isn’t it, that Wolf’s Democrat lawyers showed up in court to argue (successfully) that Libertarian Party petitioners were not risking their health or that of others by petitioning during Wolf’s restrictions. LP was arguing that date for turn in should be extended or signature requirements lowered. LP went out and got more than 5,000 sigs required, but it just goes to show that Gauleiter Wolf’s imperial decrees are not really about science and safety.
Minnesoda GOP is also rebelling. Of course, their lawsuit against Walz’s mask mandate also demonstrates why they are total cucks.
Yup, instead of suing because there is no “emergency” and Walz shouldn’t be able to rule unilaterally, they are suing because there are now two shitty laws that are in conflict.
Good luck with that argument. A judge would toss the lawsuit based on that premise before the ink dried on the clerk’s received filing stamp.
My last little fling was with a woman SEVENTEEN years younger than I.
Come and get me, coppers!
unless you’re my age, I don’t think it’s a problem.
I’m going to have to consider not threading now if it works that well.

+1 May-December romances.
May-July maybe. Mid-thirties you can get away with it legally.
A seventeen-year difference falls under December rules for the romance genre.
If there’s no snow on the crown, it’s not december.
I’m now sad that it would be perfectly legal for me to do that.
Damn. Same boat. 17 years younger would seem totally normal for me at my age. Depressing.
It would be legal, but would fall outside the creepy age (half age + 7).
I refute the creepy equation as an absolute.
One of our family friends was a self-confessed dirty old man who’s life’s ambition was to date a woman younger than his daughter. He finally managed it when he was in his seventies…
My son was very intrigued by my youngest gf. In a way he was right: they had a lot more in common culturally.
The 1/2 + 7 rule allows me 18 years difference.
x/2+7 = x-18
x/2+25 = x
x+50 = 2x
50 = 2x-x
x = 50 ?
You guys are leaving out the most important variables, the net worth of the older individual, and attractiveness of the younger.
We have a winner!
that’s so intuitive; maybe if I did algebra every day
I would need to start with two equations
M – F = 18
F = (M/2) +7
her age = her age just doesn’t jump out at me
32 from the math.
I wonder what percentage of the adult American population can do this sort of simple algebra. Virtually every single one of them was taught it in school, but I wonder how many actually learned and retained it?
I was debating leaving out the line “50 = 2x-x” because it was redundant, but I started to debate the clarity of the operations. I left it in because I’m in a meeting with management and salespeople, so I lowballed the estimate of the math knowledge of the average adult.
My own little libertarian whack-a-doodle thesis is that almost all structured juvenile schooling is more or less useless in the internet era. Private or public school, both useless. Like I said, _everybody_ was taught the above Algebra and I’d wager only 15% (tops) can do it.
Kids (and adults) are gonna learn what they want to learn and forget what they don’t care about, and arguing over “what should be taught in school” is pointless.
Furthermore, if schooling is replaced by a more “day care” and “camp” oriented approach, there’s plenty of opportunities to learn important skills and concepts in such an environment without the mind numbing drudgery and indoctrination aims of school.
For a few more days, yes.
I get 38 years.
I would end up with some old woman, nothing gained by changing
#metoo
Half of the things I talk about are about the 80s, I couldn’t stand having to explain everything I talk about that much. (17 years younger than me would be someone born in 2000)
I knew a gal (my friend’s GF who sadly died last year) who was ~15 years younger than us but was able to follow along just fine. “Old soul” or some such thing. It’s pretty rare these days for someone that age to be familiar with anything more than a few years old and it seems to be getting more pronounced with every generation.
Then there is also the ‘creeper’ factor, a 20yr old is the same age as my oldest niece.
If I had kids at the same age that my dad had me, they would be older than my youngest half-sister. Her dating someone younger than a fictitious nephew might still be with someone older than her.
young can be handy: in my case, she taught me how to load apps on my Blackberry
but then she would take deep cleavage selfies and save them as my screen which my office mates would find/see and I would pretend to be embarrassed and humble brag about the gap problems we had
I generally can’t stand anyone much more than 5 or 6 years younger than me, so dating a 26 year old wouldn’t be high on my wish list.
As someone who is fighting with the in-house code monkey who keeps trying to tell me what I should want in a LIMS, I can sympathize.

You had film for a polaroid? (yes, I know they still make it)
+1 scan and attach a jpeg to an email ?
No, you have to snap the jpeg with your phone (bonus points if you hold it at a sufficient angle to make the bottom of the page (actually the left lower corner) wider than the top), then text it. Email is too easy.
The process for a group at a place I used to work at was that they would receive faxes in a shared e-mail box as a PDF attachment. They would print them out, then scan them (to PDF), file the physical copies, and save the new PDF’s to a shared drive.
I asked once why they didn’t just save the PDF from the shared mailbox, and the response was that wasn’t their process. Later, thinking it over, it became clear that their old process was dealing with physical faxed copies, so they had to scan it. They just never made the jump to update their process to eliminate busy work.
I have had Realtors print off electronically signed contracts and text me the separate pages as individual (and out of order) jpegs.
This piece of equipment costs a quarter mil, and has an operating system that pre-dates the creation of .xlsx. I don’t care if it’s inconvenient to you, if you want to be employed on a project of making a LIMS for me you WILL find a way to accept and process the output it provides.
.csv?
That was the most obvious goto yes.
Honestly though, this is like when we first opened. We had a Millipore guy in and a group of us were talking about mounting one of his units inside one of my VPD tools because the incoming DI wasn’t up to spec. We were talking about how to keep it from overpressurizing, and where to drill the new ports wed need in it when Millipore guy chimed in with
“But this isn’t designed for that application”
“I know. Nothing is designed for this application. That’s what we’re doing now.”
:shivers: who makes their application accept .xlsx format, except when you are working with consumers. The order of data formats is JSON>YML>CSV>>>>XML>>>.xlsx
These euphemisms are too much …
Best most recognizeable intro, you say?
I am fond of this one.
CS Lewis quotation I ran across, with no context:
“Our intellectuals have surrendered first to the slave-philosophy of Hegel, then to Marx, finally to the linguistic analysts.”
Fuck it. 2020 continues its downward plunge, in large and small.
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/07/01/national/japan-plastic-bag-charge-consumers-environment/
One of the many nice things playing tourist was getting a goddam usable plastic bag, maybe several with a purchase. Used them for trash or protecting items there. Even packed my excess back home to use as trash bags in my truck (fits perfectly on the floor shift- just like those small bags did when I was a kid). And they’ve joined the fucknut banners.
Screw this world. I want off.
We can tax bags, and gas, and “prepared food”, and whatever else and sundry the state deems needs taxing, but heaven help you if you argue that nobody needs a free or reduced price lunch at school.
…is a badge of honor here.
I remember being on it, and it was nothing to be proud of. Progress!
The attitude that “you shouldn’t be ashamed to mooch off benefits” is but one of the many reasons why we can’t be Denmark.

In Paulding County, student pictures taken Monday and Tuesday show crowded hallways at North Paulding High School in Dallas. Fewer than half of the students shown are wearing masks.
Critics widely derided the pictures on social media, although some residents of the counties voiced support.
They’re all going to die. Oh, woe!
Some residents voiced support? That’s equivalent to murder.

“Having people see that these checkpoints are starting to happen around the city is going to send a powerful message,” he said.
I’ve got a message for you, Bill.
Interesting. The picture going around supposedly showing what was in the Beirut warehouse shows bags of “Nitroprill HD”. The only hit I got on a search for Nitroprill HD is “Nitropril”, pelletized ammonium nitrate for used as a mining explosive.
Also, what are the odds that a “fireworks” warehouse or factory is actually a Hezbollah bomb or rocket operation? Does Hezbollah have a history of using ammonium nitrate explosives?
