Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a beautiful morning it always is!
I can’t help but feel like the DNC is playing a practical joke on all of us.
I can’t help but feel like the DNC is playing a practical joke on all of us.
Republicans registering more new voters than Democrats.
Ya’ll been cock teasing us for over a year now.
Study shows journalists even more insular than previously thought.
Did you actually expect Republicans to spend less?
That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
“DNC” = Does Not Care”
“ “Most of the time, what happens on Twitter does not reflect the real world. But in the case of political journalism and political elites, generally speaking, what happens on Twitter is reality.”
That’s how we got into this whole series of hysterical moral panics (Russiagate-George Floyd-CovEbola) in the first place. Rome was laid low by the barbarians at the gates, we will have been destroyed by a fucking app.
The Twitter feed is coming from inside the house!
*ahem*
https://www.glibertarians.com/2018/01/reality-based-community/
I’m in entertainment, and can confirm
Particularly important here is the distorting picture of Twitter on Republican and rightwing politics. Trump has somewhere around 85-90% support by self described Republican voters in the polls. But if you turn on the TV news, read the papers, spend time on political Twitter, the blue checkmark crowd is chock full of NeverTrumpers. Just for the record, Obama had similar support among self-described Democrats, hovering between 85-90%, and yet during his Presidency the left of center opinion writers were very supportive of him, or if they did attack him it was from the left, that he wasn’t leftist enough.
If you have the impression that the “rightwing” Twitter/opinion piece sphere is representative of the reality, then you’re like a sailor using century old charts. You’re going to run aground.
Rice is getting a big bounce from Obama people who claim her presence on the ticket would guarantee the enthusiastic presence of both Barack and Michelle Obama on the campaign trail.
At least they’re not wasting their time worrying about frivolous minutiae like who might actually be competent or capable of not making half the country hate them.
Biden will either make Obama secretary of state or a SCOTUS pick
“SCOTUS pick”
…and the day is already ruined.
Good news if you want to arrive at “burn it all down” more quickly.
Nah. Obama’s too lazy. He’s good hanging with his new celebrity pals and making phat cheddar.
Choom Gang 2: Electric Boogachoom
He’d have to give Obama a woman’s seat on the court.
Don’t be silly – they’re going to increase the number of seats on the court.
They already said so.
Seems fitting.
Obama will only accept a seat on the Supreme Court. Even if the GOP controls the Senate, they won’t dare reject the nomination of the First Black William Howard Taft. We will be stuck for a long time with that preening jackass as one of the nine robed priests who ultimately rule the country.

Or as some have speculated, UN ambassador. It’s a nothingburger of a job that nevertheless has high prestige, especially in more statist circles. He would get to represent the US to the world and be a cabinet member while only having to give platitudinous speeches, his specialty.

Mornin’ Banjos.
To answer: I don’t know exactly what you mean by “gone bad.” It will definitely be not as good as if it were fresh, but I don’t taste overt rancidity and I didn’t seem to suffer food poisoning, and I never drink BRCC so I don’t have a comparison.
Also, while I don’t like the genre of reaction videos, this was entertaining:

His reactions were annoying, so I had to go and watch the original video instead.
I liked watching a Royal Marine get reduced to tears on camera.
Bob Horner is 4th on today’s baseball birthday list in terms of WAR, but the most interesting one there. What might have been, except for injuries. Made the majors at age 20, peaked at 22, and was basically done at age 28 (He tried to come back two years later, but it didnt work).
For some reason, Bob Horner and John Daly are the same person in my brain, which is probably unfair to Horner.
Yeah, a lot of Daly’s wounds were self-inflicted.

Mornin’ Banjos! Never trust a senile old man wearing aviators in a sports car. He’ll either grope you and/or wrap the Corvette around the nearest tree. Either that or he’ll need you to care for him in his dotage. Happy belated birthday Sloop!
“ A socialist congressional candidate running on the Essential Workers Party platform in Washington State lost to a guy who died in April. That candidate was running on the Congress Sucks Party platform.”
Socialist and Essential workers in the same sentence is rich. All the essential workers (grocery store clerks etc) have been working this whole time and not bitching about it. Meanwhile, the pub school teacher unions won’t go back to their 8-month, full-time, benefits-rich sinecures without a free pony.

They’re either really stupid or really smart. Really stupid if they string this along until it gets shut down by the Biden administration in January. Really smart if an assload of indictments is the October surprise.

That means Beltway journalism “may be even more insular than previously thought,” say study authors Nikki Usher and Yee Man Margaret Ng, “raising additional concerns about vulnerability to groupthink and blind spots.”
Once they completely disappear up their own assholes, the world will be a better place. Assuming there is anything left of the world by the time it happens.
Biden confidants see VP choices narrowing to Harris and Rice
Such nasty women.
Rice is IMO the better strategic pick, as of know, as she doesn’t have the campaigning issues of calling Biden a racist and saying she believes Tara Read
That’s like claiming that evil is an exact science. All of his narrowed choices are terrible. His handlers have backed him into a corner and everyone hates the shit sandwich. Oprah or the Wookie. Bet on it.
Oprah recently did some white-shaming nonsense because white-privilege. This, from the (or easily among) richest woman on the planet, who happens to be black.
I seem to recall Oprah saying it was racist for a store to close on time if it inconvenienced her, or summat.
She’s had her hate on for wypipo for awhile now.
Her wealth and position are assured. She can freely say what is in her heart of hearts and I say bless her heart.
What are gonna do, vote Democrat?
/flip-side of every argument I hear about the urban Dem machine
If they’re not even letting him attend the convention, he must be even worse off than he appears.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAvFv3hi8KY
Keep in mind that video is from early March; he’s gotten significantly worse since then. As many of you who have dealt with dementia/cognitive issues know, it’s a process that happens gradually, then all at once. We’re into the “all at once” phase with Joe. If he wins, I can’t possibly see him sticking around even for the inauguration, he’ll step down immediately. He’s not capable of running a lemonade stand, let alone the country.
Can you repeat that?
Wouldn’t he have to be inaugurated in order to step down? Or at least show up to the WH in order to step down. Technically the president elect becomes the president at the required date and time regardless of the ceremony.
Well, they do have to take the oath of office. But yes on the 20th they become president.
Harrison’s record was going to fall eventually.
Re the the socialist who lost to a dead guy in Washington St.
Of course, the top three were Democrats. Why vote for a socialist when the DNC is pretty much embracing socialism anyway? Sounds like the rioting and defunding police didn’t matter to them?
Also. I remember seeing a Pew poll 40% of Americans claim to be Independent but lean one side. So how are they Independent? Seems to me, if I was a cynic, there are people who claim to be ‘I’ just to pretend to show others or fool themselves into thinking they’re independent but really aren’t. Every time I see results it’s rare ‘I’ do well. You would think for the amount of registered (apparently at around 30%) ‘I’ some candidates would do better than the actual results, no?
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/05/15/facts-about-us-political-independents/
Well where I live, unless you plan to caucus with the local party, there’s little benefit in being a member of one or the other.
Where I now live, there is no registration with a party. On primary day, you pick which party you want to vote for that time. So, for example, I voted in the D presidential primary this year.
FWIW, in some states (like mine) “Independent” is a registration* and in some it’s not.
*or it’s assigned to you if you don’t choose like in my case
Assigned? Like gender?
Yeah, it was a little intrusive but worth it not to be with one of the majors.
PA strongly believes in the sanctity of the two-major-party system. Independent/non-partisan, no problem, you can vote when it doesn’t matter.
Top two primary in WA so Dems are now guaranteedthe seat
I think it was guaranteed well before the primary vote.
Agreed
The Blue is infecting Eastern WA too so it will be moot soon.
That’s such a shitty system. Anyone should be able to be on the general. It effectively outlaws want party but the dominant.
Do any states Apart from the left coast do that?
“Do any states Apart from the left coast do that?”
Not that I’m aware of, though I’m sure it’s on the DemSocs’ wishlist along with mandatory mail-in voting. Of course there are ways to game that system too. If the Pachyderms were interested in stooping to the DemSocs’ level of dirty tricks, they could recruit dozens of randos to run as “Democrats” to dilute the vote. Most people don’t really pay attention anyway.
Speaking of that…
Kanye West files petitions to appear on Ohio ballot.
Looks like he submitted over 14,000 signatures, and needs 5,000 valid registered voters to make it on the ballot. How does this effect the black vote in Ohio?
I can only see Kanye helping Trump. We’ll see how corrupt the system is when they come up with some bullshit reason to keep him off.
Or make sure only 1 GOP candidate is on the ballot, so that they finish top 2. The combined GOP vote would have finished #1.
My bigger issue is with the existence of state-run primaries. Primaries should be private affairs of the parties. There should only be general elections.
^^ This. States shouldn’t be running party elections, and they shouldn’t be limiting the choices available in the General.
Amen. Preach it.
Absofrackinglutely. The parties are private orgs and should have no political authority or benefits.
I like what both parties do in South Carolina. If the incumbent has no serious challenger, they cancel the primary and save the state money. So this year, there was no GOP presidential primary.
The last time an incumbent party had one was 1992, because of Buchanan’s challenge of Bush.
This seems like a position that most of us here would agree with.
*hackles go up*
You’re CANCELLED
–robc
I’m more wondering why the hell the state pays for the private parties to have primaries to select who they’re going to run. Shouldn’t that come out of the parties’ budgets?
See my 8:05 post, yes, that is the big question.

Heard that ESPN subs was down 6% from last year. 100 million down to 75 million. Still a lot so I hope it keeps bleeding. Their programming are garnering terrible ratings in the low hundred thousands.
Yet, on one of their shows they have this woman (naturally) asking a cuck and a black dude (I really don’t know who any of them were because it was a clip I saw and couldn’t care less), ‘why it’s so hard for white people to talk about race’.
Begging the question or loaded question aside, isn’t this so 2018? They keep asking this dumbass question in the open.

Now the President says he may deliver his speech to the virtual Republican National Convention from the South Lawn of the White House, obliterating the tradition of presidents seeking to safeguard their office from politicization.
One more CNN shriekfest about President Cartoon Villain’s impending “theft” of the election, but I stubbed my toe really hard on that. It’s bleeding. Seriously, when did Presidents NOT politicize the office? What kind of cretinous DNC puppets are we dealing with?
For all their talk about how the election is in the bag, they devote an awful lot of ink and energy to laying the groundwork for a massive campaign to further delegitimize the Presidency if Trump wins.
Wait, president is a political office?
How dare he! Its the People’s House!!!!
^ actually heard that on NPR
“This is my house”. – Barry.
“tradition of presidents seeking to safeguard their office from politicization”
I am amazed that anyone can write that without laughing so hard they piss themselves.
The fact that for 8 years Obama used his own photographer for official photos is completely different. Somehow.
Forgot about that one of many aspects of the “most transparent administration on history.”
Not only that, he tried to have his own propaganda wing when he started, all video was to be shot by an in house org. It didn’t last long, but he tried.
The elections in the bag, but the Biden campaign is buying ad time in Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado and Virginia.
Their math isn’t adding up. Claiming the election is theres to win and then calling on Repubs to get OMB to resign…doesn’t make sense.
If you are confident that you will trounce your opponent, why want him to resign to open up the door for a likeable candidate to jump in the game?
Isn’t everyone supposed to stay at home?
seeking to safeguard their office from politicization.
Barry lit the WH in rainbow colors after a court decision stating a position with which he used to disagree.

Joe Biden
@JoeBiden
There’s been a lot of talk about my vetting process lately. Here’s an inside look:
Party of the working man.
If you scroll down, there’s a tweet from Biden attacking Trump for squandering the economy he inherited from Obama. Literally everything was Obama’s, until it went bad.
Well I remember the Obama “recovery” and if that’s what Biden promises, no thanks.
This?
Donald Trump promised to bring back jobs, but his policies crushed the manufacturing sector—and that was true even before COVID-19.
I’ll revitalize American manufacturing and innovation and create millions of good-paying jobs so we can build back better.
This is literal fiction.
Increase workplace regulations and higher energy costs will be a boon to manufacturing.
BUILD BACK BETTER is the worst fucking political slogan I have ever heard.
But it is ironic that Dems are currently trying to destroy everything. And what they build back will not be better.
Or this.
The truth of the matter is, Donald Trump inherited a growing economy from President Obama and me. And just like everything else he inherited in his life, he squandered it.
Because Barry unleashed the market by removing regulation and Drumpf stifled it with regulation and then forced a reduction in commerce because of the Chinese plague…
They should put Joe out in a thick cardigan holding a glass of egg nog.
They should put Joe out
in a thick cardigan holding a glass of egg nogof our misery. For his entire life in business before he entered politics, Trump bent rules, laws, traditions and ethics. His willingness to do so now signals that he is prepared to do anything within his power to win the election. And it suggests that he’s also willing to drag the country through a corrosive period of legal and political brinkmanship if the election is close.
If he loses power in such circumstances, Trump’s tactics could sow a sense of grievance and disenfranchisement among his voters that would shatter his successors’ attempts to forge unity and could damage US democracy for years ahead.
And if Biden loses?
CNN and the rest of the media will do their utmost to sow grievance and resentment among the electorate. The will engage in a frenzy of attacks on Trump’s legitimacy which may very well cause irreparable damage to democracy and the nation.

Like, what if he spins this fiction about collusion with China and has a guy investigated from Biden’s team, ensuring that every Republican thinks Biden is illegitimate.
The will engage in a frenzy of attacks on Trump’s legitimacy which may very well cause irreparable damage to democracy and the nation.
I think we’re already at and past this point. 2016 saw a banana-republic style soft coup against the duly elected president.
It just goes downhill from here.
If Trump resorts to this it’s simply simple turnabout is fair play at this point.
CNN and the rest of the media will do their utmost to sow grievance and resentment among the electorate.
Next you’ll tell me that they will foment riots over an unfortunate interaction between a police officer and a black man and persist in this narrative even when incontrovertible evidence that said narrative is wrong is made available. Wouldn’t that be weird?
his successors’ attempts to forge unity

Fredo: Drumpfler is violating your children!
Cuomo said, “I know for a fact he knows not to say what he’s saying to you right there. And with our kids. Children have died from this virus. Do they usually? No. Do they die the way adults do? No, but that’s not the point. They are not immune. They get sick and infected. They generally have lighter or no symptoms, but after age 10, the best research we have at this point tells us they are just as likely to spread coronavirus as anyone else. And he knows it. I know he was told that. It is the best reckoning by his own task force.”
He continued, “Why would he lie to you about it? Why would he put you in the position to expose your kid that way? How can we deal with a president who lies so much? Facebook removed one of his videos from his personal page because of what he said on state TV this morning, making these same BS claims that kids are almost immune. It violates their harmful COVID misinformation policy. What our president is putting out about children is so violative of their decency standard they pulled it. Just think about that. Trump’s campaign account also posted the video on Twitter. Twitter made them delete it before they could tweet again.”
He added, “They can’t even live up to the social media standards. How is he able to live up to the standard that we demand right now? He violated their standards. He’s violating us, especially our kids.”
Hence the qualifier “almost.”
English, motherfucker, do you speak it?!?!
Wow. Cuomo is so profoundly evil and stupid it’s scary.
As if this degenerate piece of shit hasn’t done enough with the elderly he has now moved onto the kids.
When Trump suggested they locked down in March, he laughed. When Trump said HCQ can help, they all laughed. When Trump said to shut down air travel from China they screamed. Trump says go back to school and they bitch again. And he’ll be right agains here.
It truly is frighteningly distressing they’ve moved onto the kids this way. That at every turn every position I personally hold (no masks, kids back at school etc,) is seen as an extremest position deserving of censorship and public shaming. This is not about science but politics. Cuomo and his ilk are WRONG.
OPEN the schools you sons of bitches.
In out case, daycares have been open since June. So far….knocks on wood…..nothing.
I was wondering why they banned him.
So. Facebook would ban paediatricians?
I’m not following something. If child experts say it’s safe then who are FB and all these degenerates taking their orders from?
Wow. Fearmongering much? YOUR KIDS WILL DIE!!!!
Children Will Die!
So of course the Today show had a doctor on this morning sowing panic about incredibly small possibility that a kid who gets ChiComVirus will have heart and cognitive problems the rest of his life. Were the nation’s schools closed down when polio was rampant before Salk’s vaccine?
It certainly seems like this has been what the Dems have been training for. They know that going back to schools will help Trump in making things feel normal. The Teachers Unions are fine with this as long as they get paid. Teaching has long been untehtered from actual education. Now it will be untehtered from the only benefit it does provide, Public Daycare, and Teachers will be free to collect a check for providing no measurable benefit to society.
Gah! We keep talking in circles. What’s gonna break the lie?
Do they mention that a kid is far more likely to get struck by lightning?
I somehow flipped over to CNN last night when this segment came on. I’d never seen the Chris Cuomo show before. I stared in awe at all of the whining and bleating.
She argued that they could continue selling sugary drinks and junk food, just not to children.
How long until some guy gets executed in a 7-11 parking lot for buying Pepsi and Doritos for underage junk food junkies?
I had to give blood on Saturday, and the tech really mucked it up. I’m still bruised.

The Trump ads write themselves – cuts of rioting and looting, voice over of police saying they won’t control/respond, voice over stating gun sales are at record highs, then Biden saying this
There are what? a Million new gun owners over the last 4 months? This seems like doing an old play at the wrong time. I think Trash is right, the Biden camp is trying to rally the left side of the base, hoping it will net them more votes than they loose. Maybe they feel very certain that no one will flip to Trump.
I’ve seen it claimed that most of the recent purchases are new gun-owners. I suspect these people might finally “get it” and not be amenable to such violations of 2A. One can hope.
Thats my hope. My thinking is that the Antifa/BLM riots of 2020 have shaken a lot of urban/suburban mabeys into a “you know, i think i get what those gun nuts were talking about”. I could be wildly optomistic, but I think the Democrats, by pushing the riots and violence, have lost that argument for at least the next decade.
The Democrats’ unending political stupidity on gun control is a long-time source of confusion to me.
Guys, the whole assault rifle thing? It’s over. You lost. There are like five million ARs in circulation right now, and that’s just the one model. It is physically impossible for the government to round them all up.
But they still waste political energy bashing their heads against this brick wall.
Unsolvable problems are the best problems, politically. You never have to change your issues or rhetoric.
Just keep pounding on the wedge issue.
The IRA, after the Brighton bombing:
“Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always.”
If they can ram through an AR ban at the federal level, just once, they can leverage their control of Big Tech and Big Government and purge the deplorables. They will SWAT them, kill the resisters, and the rest will go to federal prison, and I guarantee you there will be some new federal law or federal court opinion written by a handpicked judge that federal gun crimes bar someone from voting for life. If Biden wins, and they take the Senate, then at some point in the next two years there will be some mass killing with an AR, and they will enact the plan.
They win because they never stop fighting for what they believe in, they use every single angle of attack open to them. Cultural, academic, media, political, bureaucratic, legal. They fight on every single fucking hill, and they never leave a hill unless you storm it with butt and bayonet. Then they mount a counterattack.
Depressingly true. The assault on personal liberty is never ending and it is not just Dems.
So i’m going to pose a question to y’all that i’ve been pondering on. How did California go from being carried in 1980’s by Regan, to a place where everyone knows no republican has a chance of winning in the presidential?
The democrats in the state seem to have done all that they can to ensure it is a one party state, and i don’t know if i see anything quite like it in other states. Texas would be closest, in size, but it is not as entrenched as the Democrats are. There are some smaller states, that are Solid Red, so maybe there, but i don’t see it as much.
I’d imagine it’s illegal immigration.
It’s deeper than that. California led the current trend of making the personal political.
Not to go all ethno state, but they only did that once they had the odds in their favor.
You’re saying they will be organizing some Hunger games?
Let’s go Scarface instead. First you get the money, then you get the guns, then you get the pussy.
I believe that hardcore Leftists are essentially religious fanatics. They’ve also got a lock on identity politics in which voting Dem is part of the culture and not doing so means you’re an outcast. Further, once they gain enough power, they change the rules so they never lose again.
Pachyderms’ have the same qualities but the religious fanaticism gets channeled into, y’know, actual religion. The Dems also have K-12 acting essentially as Madrassas so I expect the country to being completely Californicated in the next 20 years or so.
New York says “Hi!”
I would guess a combination of demographics and the perfection of machine politics.
This is what is upsetting. They perfect the Machine, and then make it so no one else can win.
Look at Virginia. They intend to do that everywhere. They are trying to remove any and all measures to ensure electoral integrity so they can engage in fraud without consequence.
It will be harder to create the cultural conditions in Virginia outside of the DC metro. There are literally large swathes of California where calling yourself a Republican is socially verboten.
You tell people you are a Republican in Nova or DC or MD and your under the age of 30 your a social pariah or at best your looked at like some kind of curiosity.
Which I usually do to just save time explaining the fact I’m an anarchist because if your dealing with an npc or someone so fucked in the head they can’t conversate with you based on thinking your views that are in line with half the electorate are beyond the pale they aren’t with your time anyway.
Well yes, but they could only do that because VA is “the state where federal workers sleep”. VA is not ruled by Virginians, it’s ruled by Fairfaxians. The rest of us just bend over and smile.
it comes down to the rural/urban divide. If you draw a 40 mile radius around the Lincoln monument, There are millions of government drones packed into row after row of the boringest little townhomes. By 30 or 35 miles, that begins thinning out a bit, and the bright blue starts to take on purple hues. By the time you hit 40 miles, it’s all gadsden flags, Trump stickers, and “black rifles matter”.
Federalism was supposed to release the tension on this dynamic, but the authoritarians just can’t help themselves.
Funny thing how the Democratic-Republicans of the early Republic were the actual federalists, and the Federalists were the centralists. Hamilton is now the guiding light of the Democratic party, not Jefferson.
Yeah, the whole concept of the American system is that, at every level of American government, you need a broad and dispersed consensus for laws.
It’s supposed to be something like “most of the counties support State Law 1007. We know this because both the popularly elected House and the geogrpahically dispersed Senate agreed to pass it, and the Governor, elected by the whole state, signed it.”
It is not supposed to be “hey this giant county of government workers and a couple core urban areas of loyal partisans agree by a thin margin (after our ideological allies made you scrap your districts) that you stupid fucking hicks don’t need guns, so fuck off.”
I hate these fucking people so much.
If there’s so much support, why not put it up for referendum?
Tsar Bomba can draw that circle for you.
It switched around the time of Schwarzenegger. From my experience, it was a cultural shift where the Democrats went from attempting to govern to blaming any and all ills on the mere presence of Republicans.
If you’re in LA, SJ, or SF you don’t call yourself a Republican ever, unless you want to be socially shunned. I believe a lot of the shift came with the 00’s rise of the tech titans and the money that went along with that.
The state is now a Democratic machine similar to Chicago or Philadelphia. The primary is the election.
I lived in LA in the early 90s. It was both kinds of immigration – Mexicans were pouring in and the state voted overwhelmingly to shut it down, and a Federal Judge immediately struck it down. And every liberal douche and homeless bum in the rest of the country was moving to California. Even while we had a Republican Mayor and Governor, the writing was on the wall.
Also – California Democrats are as blatant as Philly with their dirty tricks and ballot box shenanigans.
Don’t they have a system where two people from the same party can run against each other in the general? Not sure how that works. Puts a lot more value on primary turnout. Maybe I’m misremembering.
That’s actually fairly recent. Another attempt at reform, just as term-limits were. Neither has worked as hoped.
I thought the Jungle Primary’s entire purpose was to further marginalize republicans? It seems like it works perfectly.
You also have Republican-dominated districts where the two finalists are both R’s. Those are fewer of course but they exist as “safe” Republican seats.
But I’m sure they worked exactly as intended.
Never ascribe to malice what can be adequately described as stupidity.
Except if someone has demonstrated competency in a certain field, it’s acceptable to believe that the results of their action in that field are intentional.
I actually think the opposite is true. I always assume evil first.
Yep, California is a Top Two state. One of several.
Everyone is missing a crucial piece. The Republicans self-destructed. The debatable piece is the impact of Prop 187, but there is no debate about how they consigned themselves to safe districts versus competitive ones – even though that meant assured minority status within the state. That was in the ’91 re-districting as I recall, and from there it has been nothing but shrinking.
The second (and related) part is the disappearance of the middle class. California is now a two-tier (or 3rd world if you prefer) economy – the rich and the poor. That is due to both policy decisions (even local ones like zoning) and the incessant growth of the population. After all, even poor in California is better than most places around the globe, so the supply of immigrants (legal and otherwise) is a renewable resource.
Your second point is why we exited the state in ’94. Lots of rich, lots of poor, nothing in between. To stay and start careers in the LA area, we either have to live in a crappy apartment for a long time, or commute for hours a day. Crushing taxes and expensive cost of living made us feel like we’d be swimming against the current forever there.
Honestly, hearing stuff like that can make me understand why those places are also chock full of Communist rioters.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_Gini_coefficient
This is an interesting thing to show, and then compare the political climate (i.e, maybe the people agitating for more equality, is because they live in a place where the inequality is so apparent?). My main point being, it’s hard for me to understand what you are saying, because i’ve never really lived in a place like that.
Just go to zillow and pretend you’re shopping for a 3 bedroom house (not in the ‘hood) in South California and you have to commute to downtown LA daily. A sinking feeling will quickly hit you if you can’t spend over a $million.
Hell, my house in San Diego went up another $250K since I sold it (in 2014). It’s absurd.
So, income inequality is most popular amongst Democrats.
Particularly those Democrats on the top end of income inequality. Guilt is a terrible burden.
You mean the Woke Man’s Burden?
“How did California go from being carried in 1980’s by Regan, to a place where everyone knows no republican has a chance of winning in the presidential?”
In 1980, 66% of Californians were white. In 2010 it’s 40%. Speaking strictly from an electoral politics perspective: the electorate gets browner, your state goes blue. The Republican Party cannot win a majority minority area, period.
Now, you can argue that’s because the Republican party is racist and refuses to do outreach to the immigrant community. That’s certainly an argument. Of course, I argue that people are just people, and if you’re a poor immigrant from a place with a strong tradition of socialism, you vote socialist in your new home, and that no amount of Rubio or Jeb! speaking Spanish on the stump is going to change your vote.
The fact is that illegal immigration changes the electoral math in a jurisdiction to favor the Democrats. That’s why the Democrats are in favor of it. If illegal immigrants voted Republican, Obama would have flown his murder drones over the Rio Grande. If Donald Trump announced that there would be an unlimited citizenship program for the poverty stricken, governmentally oppressed white farmers of South Africa, the Left would go absolutely nuts, because they’d see it for what it was: an attempt to import a bunch of anti-communist South Africans who will be electorally loyal to the Republican Party.
well yes. When the republicans do something it’s evidence of political gamesmanship, when the democrats do something it’s just democracy in action.
I think it was after Schwartzenegger made an honest attempt to push through a number of conservative initiatives to fix a lot of that State’s issues. What he managed to do was energize the Pubsec unions, especially the Teachers, and all those initiatives lost.
The left became a lot more powerful, and Arnie sealed the deal by then tacking left for the rest of his time as Governor.

nsfw maybe?
Immigration and the catering to various subgroups won the Dems the day there. The unfortunate reality is that whites are the only group that doesn’t overwhelmingly vote for Dems and majority minority states like Cali are always going to be locked up by Democrats.
Whoops, reply to Leon.
I’d thought the Cancel Culture intolerance was a bunch of outliers, a small shrieking mob that made a lot of noise and headlines, and not indicative of the general population. I was wrong. I was talking on the phone with my brother, who was a libertarian when we were kids, and somewhere in the intervening decades turned into a full blown leftist, in part because of his government union job as a firefighter. In passing, I mentioned that I didn’t wear the fucking face masks when I went to businesses in Austin despite signages on every business due to the EOs from the governor, the county, and the mayors.
And he lost his shit, eventually getting so mad at me for not sharing his POV that he hung up on me. I tried texting back, and despite saying I respected his views, let’s agree to disagree, he kept escalating because I wouldn’t agree to wear the fucking masks. Finally he wrote:
“It seems you believe we are having a philosophical/political debate about personal freedom vs the greater good. We are not. This is about you as a person and what your core values are in treating people with respect, compassion, and dignity – especially those who work hard for a living – and how much interaction that I want to have with said person … One of the best things about being retired is I don’t have to deal with inconsiderate jackasses anymore.”
JFC. people are losing their minds.
Sorry your brother is an asshole.
To which I wrote back, “Respectfully, the argument I was making was not about personal freedom versus the “greater good”. It was about personal freedom versus tyranny. And so if one’s core values are about treating people with “respect, compassion, and dignity” – as mine are – then standing by and cheering on the tyranny of bureaucrats in the executive branch of government unilaterally writing EOs that effectively create new laws creating enforceable criminal penalties for not wearing a mask …
well, if there is no pushback against that, you’ve set the stage for a dictatorship that has all the respect, compassion, and dignity that mass murderers like Stalin, Pol Pot, and Che Guevara are so well known for.
If you wish to not associate who care about human rights and civil liberties, but whose POV you choose to misconstrue by declaring they have core values that are the exact opposite of what they have politely pointed out at length that they actually hold …
Well, I’ll defend your right of free association, even if that results in you living in an echo chamber where everyone you know either is in complete lockstep with your POVs, or quietly refrains from talking with you about anything that might trigger your Operation Frequent Self-Righteousness And Not Considering You Might Be Wrong algorithm.”
The “greater good” is an abstraction that encourages subservience and obedience. It is up to me to determine what the “greater good” is and whether I choose to submit myself to it.
Otherwise, you’re just a slave to the mob.
Which one of you is the executor of your parent’s will?
I think it is one of my sisters.
Why do you ask?
It was a mostly jesting comment implying that since your brother was willing to excommunicate you, you should look into making sure he couldn’t continue fucking you over down the road.
My sister says she “deserves” more of the estate since she has kids and spends her time volunteering at the church rather than having a paying job. My parent choose to live near her because of the grandkids, but have made me executor for this reason.
My response: “I believe masks, while perhaps acting as a mitigating factor in spreading of the disease, are a greater danger because they represent how much control the government has over our lives. Murdering people abroad and domestically, that same government is now forcing you to wear a mask out of ‘public safety’. If you haven’t figured out that they do nothing out of “love”, you’re a fool.”
That’s just me though.
The people who are on ERT with me that are also firefighters seem to be WAY more convinced that covid is a superinstadeathplague than the general population.
My 69 year old aunt with stomach cancer who just recovered from it would have to disagree,
Facing actual death will do that to you.
Convenient that you can just claim something isn’t political, and suddenly it’s not open for debate.
“Sure politicians are issuing executive orders, and legislatures are drafting and voting on laws, and judges are ruling on lawsuits, but it’s not political!!!”
My brother and I try not to discuss politics. His wife is as woke as they get and can’t help herself. She tones it down around me because I don’t get upset or challenge her craziness, I ask questions. Since she covid-crazy and lives in Maine, I asked if she was paranoid about the flu since far more people died in her state of that illness last year and given their ages, her family is orders of magnitude more likely to get seriously ill or die from influenza – she changed the subject.
I asked my brother why, if the masks are about the health of the sick and elderly, hardly anyone including him wore one during previous flu seasons.
It’s strange. People who internalize the morality of self-sacrifice, do tend to react harshly to people who reject it. The reverse doesn’t seem to be true.
You know, I’ve never read any Hoffer. That probably should change.
he’s great.
The True Believer is one of those books where you just nod your head and say “Yes, of course…” to yourself a lot.
I still found myself saying “really?”, and after thinking it about it some more, “yes, really”.
It’s strange. People who internalize the morality of self-sacrifice, do tend to react harshly to people who reject it.
Well see, this is actually the reaction of a subset of this group: those who internalize the morality of self-sacrifice but not the behavior. The truly selfless do not expect others to be selfless. Only those who are selfish while valuing selflessness feel this way. It’s almost axiomatic.
^^
treating people with respect, compassion, and dignity
I don’t know your brother, of course, so I am tackling this as an argument I see coming from lots of different people now.
I am getting very tired of hearing this. It’s always a one-way street. People who disrespect those they disagree with, show no compassion to people outside their own social circles, and whose definition of dignity is shaped entirely by superficial signals, turn around and demand respect, compassion, and dignity from others. No, goddammit, you want some respect you better show some. I don’t give a flying fuck what your job is or was, or whether your political views are correct or not, or how you show support for whatever causes you deem important. I will show you respect at the start, and if you show some in return, then our respect for each other can grow. But if you think it’s okay to routinely and categorically disrespect people for holding different views, then I’d rather you took your “respect, compassion, and dignity” hypocritical bullshit and shoved it up your ass. Two people arguing angrily and throwing insults at each other in disagreement is far more honest than one of them whining about not getting enough respect after dishing out nothing but disrespect. Children should know better than this, never mind adults. This world isn’t run on the inverse image of the progressive caricature of Christianity, you aren’t one of the elect, and you’re not owed especial respect just because of your position on a political totem pole nor for your ability to virtue signal to others of your own tribe. There is a basic level of decency that you should show to other people when you first meet them, but after that respect is a mutual choice. If you withhold respect for trivial reasons, or you demand respect while giving none, or you define respect along sectarian lines, then you are part of the problem.
The problem i foresee with this (not that i disagree with you), is that in their worldview, holding a differing opinion is a sign of disrespect. If you think “All Lives Matter”, you are a racist, and racists are not being respectful of other races.
See when you define everything oustide of your camp as utterly verboten, it is easy to then claim the Moral High Ground.
This is not a new thing; this is the story of human history. The enlightenment view of tolerance for dissent was the outlier. Orthodox conformity to dogma and war against heretics is the rule in human history. It is responsible for virtually every mass slaughter in history, and it needs to be fought, especially when it rears its ugly head in your own circles, because it can’t be fought from outside.
^^^ THIS !!! [that is all]
Sowell had a thing or two to say about “respect” cultures. This seems like the same thing.
Crackers be everywhere
[Michelle] Obama also discussed the attitudes some Americans had about the country inaugurating its first Black president when her husband Barack Obama was elected in 2008.
“The reaction to it on all sides, the vast discomfort with the notion that a Black man could be sitting in the highest level of office, we saw that. We saw the signs, we saw the nooses, ” she said.
Both Obamas have been subject to right wing attacks and abuse online.
Yes, of course. It’s a hard life, sitting around the mansion brooding about what might have been. If only black people in this country were free to follow their dreams, and raise themselves up.
All those poor crackers in Appalachia really oppressed the Obamas.
There are people in this country, who will unquestioningly accept the premise that the Obamas were oppressed, because some people said racist things about them.
What I cannot forgive the Obamas for is going along wholeheartedly with the premise that political disagreement with their policy proposals was purely racist in origin.
The DNC/media concocted that claptrap and the Obamas went along with it. I sensed a tiny bit of resistance to the idea from Barack initially but Michelle was fully bought in.
Bought in? You don’t know the shit she said when he was a Senator. She’s a straight-up racist and he’s a goddamned milquetoast.
Got any references on that? I would be interested.
She was so proud of that Country that did some things…
So utterly tiresome and annoying.
right wing attacks
Only racists would disagree with the Lightbringer’s tax and regulatory policies.
Remember how much those same people loved socialized medicine in the 90s when a white woman who came from Arkansas tried to bring it to them?
Both Obamas have been subject to right wing attacks and abuse online.
There are assholes? On the Internet? My god.
The left wing would never stoop to online attacks and abuse of Chimpy McHitler, the Christfags, Drumpf, Moscow Mitch, or Putin’s cock holsters.
Effect of a Workplace Wellness Program on Employee Health and Economic OutcomesA Randomized Clinical Trial..
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2730614?fbclid=IwAR0_V5ethp-7lrHS3RTaKUwFKtSeHJaRptYTsuCIfnQ1D0bpx_bME7E_t3U
This randomized clinical trial of a multiyear, multicomponent workplace wellness program implemented in a middle- and lower-income population found that individuals in workplaces where the program was offered reported better health behaviors, including regular exercise and active weight management, but the program did not generate differences in clinical measures of health, health care spending or utilization, or employment outcomes after 18 months.
That the program affected self-reported health behaviors, but not health or economic outcomes, may be interpreted in several ways. Given that workplace wellness programs focus on changing behavior and that behavior change may precede improvements in other outcomes, these findings could be consistent with future improvements in health or reductions in spending. On the other hand, behavior change is likely easier to achieve than improvements in clinical or employment outcomes. Thus, there may remain no detectable effects on those outcomes, which would have implications for the return on investment in wellness programs.
Sorry, Folks, I need to hit the hay. I’m once again angrier than I was a few hours before. Have a great one and see you later.
You want individuals to be liable for the actions of other individuals?
A year after a gunman opened fire at the beloved Gilroy Garlic Festival, killing two San Jose children, little progress has been made on San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo’s plan for first-of-its-kind measure to curb gun violence.
The mayor’s proposed ordinance, which he unveiled just two weeks after the shooting in late July 2019, would require gun owners in the nation’s 10th largest city to either carry liability insurance or pay a fee to cover taxpayer costs — such as emergency response and medical care — associated with gun violence.
Liccardo’s novel idea gained widespread national media attention at the time — from the New York Times to CNN to the Washington Post. But just as episodes of gun violence can quickly fall from the news cycle and the public eye, in some ways, so has the mayor’s proposal.
I suppose it is an idea not far removed from holding manufacturers liable for the misuse of their products, which is also very wrong.
I’m also proposing that voters care voter liablity insurance. In the case that they vote for someone awful, they will need to pay out to the people who didn’t vote.
Question:
When I was in fifth grade, part of every day for the entire year was dedicated to first aid. Was that not normal? The first lessons were on treating for shock, and every other situation always ended with “treat for shock.”
I remember much more detail than I get in my classes these days, and I’m uncertain how much of that is because we now have a better understanding of what works/is necessary and what is just the training being dumbed down. For example, in the case of poisoning, if you knew what it was and it wasn’t a petroleum product or a corrosive you were supposed to induce vomiting. If they were unconscious, you were supposed to smell their breath to check for the petroleum, and check their mouth for signs it was a corrosive. Today’s training says “never induce vomiting,” but is that because the vomiting didn’t work, or because they don’t think people can remember the difference between when and when not to?
It’s the latter, inducing vomiting is kind of a fallback position for people who don’t know better and they were trying to discourage that.
I’ve never heard of that.
I’ll have to wait until HE shows up since I think she went to elementary school in OK also.
It was definitely a curriculum brought in by outside. There were a number of fairly thick softcover books of unusual proportions (longer than high — like something designed to be stored in a glove compartment) , and they were color coded.
The segment on treating stroke was easy and sad since it was just “Nothing you can do. Treat for shock.”
I don’t believe I got that until middle school? I remember getting a class in 8th grade that didn’t teach me anything I hadn’t already learned in the Boy Scouts.
Interesting. I’ve got two homeschool kids this year. I think I’ll add a course on first aid/safety.
Thanks for the idea.
I’ve got two homeschool kids this year – where did you get them from?
I picked them up from a Nigerian prince as part of helping him with his estate.
If they’re old enough, go beyond a basic first aid (which is good) for trauma training. It’s one thing to put on a bandaid, it’s another to drive up on a car crash or something similar. There’s the Stop the Bleed, with a lot of videos on YouTube of varying production quality. Most good, but hands on practice responding and applying tqs or pressure dressings can’t be beat.
I grew up during the Aids Scare, so… First Aid was not something taught at schools.
Growing up in rural Oklahoma, you had to know how to treat arrow wounds, and palisade construction and maintenance was part of shop class.
How many indians are there even left to fight?
1.5 billion

We had CPR in sixth grade 1975 in a top tier public system.
The risk-reward profile for vomiting for the patient is pretty steep compared to urgent care options in an urban setting; for the first responder, it’s vertical: everything is the patient’s fault until someone intervenes. Of course there’s the risk the patient has difficulty supporting the procedure. Compared to all that, getting a child, say, to drink some charcoal is probably ten times easier and safer.
As for smells, that’s too easy to get wrong. I don’t know what they mean by “petroleum,” but, for example, ethyl acetate and acetone (most ketones) have a sweet note; conversely, NewWife, a seasoned vodka type, thinks pure ethanol stinks; diesel doesn’t bother me, but others find it revolting.
That’s why I’m going to ask HE if I remember to. I think she, like me went to elementary school in rural areas.
Having said that, I don’t think the materials presented were especially designed for young people. But we literally went through some of it every day for 180 days. It struck me that if a bunch of bumpkin children in BAOK could do that, you could have the entire population at EMT levels of proficiency before they graduated high school.
It’s a ridiculous game we’re playing. The people that are controlling every major institution/industry in the US are acting like right wing populism is a bigger danger than left wing populism. They can get plucked off one by one and still believe that the boogie man is some Tiki torch waving imbecile in Charlottesville is the greatest threat to the American dream. It’s insanity. Those people have no power.
The people that are controlling every major institution/industry in the US are acting like right wing populism is a bigger danger than left wing populism- maybe because they know it is not and are foolishly trying to feed the crocodile?
That’s true. They may be more insane than I thought. I’ll keep that in mind.
Um Those Tiki Torchers killed a woman, and there is no proven instance of a self identifed Antifa person having killed a person at one of these protests.
Actually all the evidence suggests all the violence in the riots was caused by white supremacists. But even if it wasn’t who are we to criticize the way certain people protest?
Other than Connor Betts of course.

Measuring income inequality and the impact of the welfare state during COVID-19: Evidence from bank data
Oriol Aspachs, Ruben Durante, José García-Montalvo, Alberto Graziano, Josep Mestres, Marta Reynal-Querol 06 August 2020
The economic crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic may disproportionately affect the most vulnerable segments of the population, creating serious challenges for social cohesion and political stability. This column constructs a high-frequency measure of income inequality using anonymised data from bank records on the wages and public transfers of over three million account holders in Spain. Wage inequality increased by almost 30% during the COVID-19 crisis, mainly due to job losses and wage cuts for low-income workers. However, public transfers were very effective at offsetting most, though not all, of this increase.
https://voxeu.org/article/income-inequality-and-welfare-state-during-covid-19
I don’t get this “disasters affect the most vulnerable” thing… I mean duh?
Maybe stop promoting policies that keep people permanently “vulnerable”.

Interesting breakdown of team blue\temp red occupations.
http://verdantlabs.com/politics_of_professions/
Not sure I buy some of it. The engineering breakdown doesn’t seem right to me.
I don’t believe Nuke engineering, for example, is split 55/45 D/R. The only way that is possible is if there are large number of right-leaning Independens or Libertarians who didnt get included in the total. I wouldn’t expect a huge R/D split, but more like 60/40.
Just a few thoughts. There may be a difference between engineers doing design work vs project management. My background is in design and manufacturing and I’m more get it done style. I’m been on an ANSI design standard committee for about 10 years now and run into a lot of “this is what the codes says” mindset from engineers in supervisory positions.
If every code-monkey in the Bay area is a “software engineer” it makes sense.
Yes, and “Software Engineer” was like 75-25. But the rest of engineering was far too evenly split.
I went to an engineering school and it was, ummm, not evenly split.
They evolved?

True, but don’t the vast majority of software engineers NOT have engineering degrees?
If NCEES gets there way, only PEs will be allowed to be labeled “engineer”
oops, their
Which mean almost every engineer outside of Civil wont be labeled that way. Very, very few others bother with getting the PE.
Electrical with PE here.
It is stupid but typical power creep in an organization. I have a lot of issues with the whole PE system but I need for the work I do.
Our EHS guys have them now. Though they didn’t when we opened.
I’m a little surprised by the Professional Poker Player one.
I’m not. They all reek of assholery.
Yep. Although I would expect if there was a more detailed breakdown it would be something like 65% left, 30% libertarian, 5% right.
But when you look at two party affiliation, it will be extremely D.
It almost has to be that way. At the low and high levels, you are winning from people blowing entertainment funds. At the mid-levels, where you can survive as a pro, but aren’t yet good enough or bankrolled enough to win at the high stakes games, a lot of your income comes from taking advantage of addicts. I think I certain assholeishness is necessary to be able to do that.
It is one advantage of tournament play…there is less of that moral issue, IMO, as the entry fee is set and so the addict can’t just reload (although there are tourneys with multiple buyins allowed).
Now show us how many identify with either team versus no team.
Dafuq is an “innkeeper” and how is it distinguished from “motel owner?”
Bed & Breakfast?
Innkeepers are eligable to be questgivers.
You can’t get a quest from Patel?
If I ever run a D&D campaign, I am going to name the innkeeper NPC Patel.
Perhaps the west did not actually win the cold war.
A petition in the United Kingdom is calling on Parliament to create an “Official Racial Offenders Register.” The database would empower companies to find out whether potential employees have a history of racially-related offenses before hiring them.
The petition has received nearly 3,500 signatures so far. It must reach 10,000 signatures to earn a government response. At 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.
“As part of the drive to further protect citizens and have zero tolerance to all forms of prejudice and discrimination in the workplace,” petition author Emma-Jane Leslie wrote, “this register would allow employees to know if any staff have a history of race-related offences to determine if they could cause further prejudice and discrimination within the workplace and whether they would be best fit for roles within diverse working environments.”
The petition likens the effort to similar registers in the U.K., like Clare’s law, which allows people to find out from the police if their partner has a history of domestic violence, and Sarah’s Law, which tracks child molesters. According to its website, the Racial Offenders Register will help employers “stamp out racism and abusive behaviour within their organisations.”
“There’s no such thing as a slippery slope”
No but there are cliffs you just shouldn’t jump off of. The U.K. has a least one foot out into the void.
That’s terrifying.
^^ This.
“Your name vill also go on ze list! Vhat is it?”
Don’t tell him, Rhy!
I’m also proposing that voters care voter liablity insurance. In the case that they vote for someone awful, they will need to pay out to the people who didn’t vote.

You mean a dopey gender and race bending retread isn’t popular?
https://www.yahoo.com/news/high-fidelity-series-starring-zoe-073913386.html
Why not try making original content instead of rehashing stuff with some woke twist.
This has got to be one of the lazier trends in recent writers work. I swear, TV writing has gone down hill ever since the writers guild strike.
Saw a promo last night for yet another retread of The Fugitive. Hollywood et al are officially out of ideas.
Speaking of gender bending retreads:
Kravitz is currently set to star as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) alongside Robert Pattinson in the forthcoming DC comics film, The Batman.
Almost every damn new series feels the need to shoehorn in some woke these days. It’s utterly annoying and boring.
I found myself skipping thru whole scenes of the second season of The Umbrella Academy just so I could get past the irrelevant woke signaling.
I just started the first season that’s disappointing if it goes down the woke road.
I don’t know I tried watching that and it sucked even with Lisa Bonet’s hot daughter in it.
If that’s the hot daughter I’d hate to see the ugly one. She looks like her dad.
She’s no Lisa Bonet. Maybe that was the point of failure.
that’s nearly everybody’s failure.
“Why not try making original content instead of rehashing stuff with some woke twist.”
Hollywood bought Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter International series about a decade ago. It would be the most popular show on TV if they did it right. Talking GOT level popularity.
Or just rehash some stuff without the woke twist, and make it historical.
I’m still dreaming of a real Matt Helm movie project…
You got something against Dean Martin?
I have something against his awful portrayal of Matt Helm…
Other problem with the show — despite the cuteness of Zoe …
1) It really does follow the movie exactly and add nothing. Even the characters remind you of inferior versions of Jack Black and Todd Louiso.
2) It tries too hard to make Zoe sympathetic. The point is the character is kind of a selfish jerk and you get to watch them grow a bit and realize how shallow they are/were. They even make her steal some rich schmuck’s record collection because he’s a putz. The show makes her such a ridiculous woke hero.

He has, a point. I think this is just a plan to keep out the Irish.
Build a pipeline: 50% of candidates at each stage of each hiring process should be POC.
So a half-Mic could get hired. Or a Mic could be hired part-time? Or when it comes down to a hiring decision, they have to start sawing people up?
50% of candidates at each stage of each hiring process should be POC.
I thought it was BIPOC now. Unless they have separate quotas for B and I.
Of course, they aren’t serious, or they would start firing wypipo to get to their magic quotas faster than mere attrition would allow.
Cuckerburg: “We believe in freedom of speech, but…”
Facebook on Wednesday said it had removed a post from President Donald Trump’s page for containing false claims about Covid-19.
The post was a video of an interview the President gave to Fox News on Wednesday morning.
“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from Covid-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful Covid misinformation,” Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone said in a statement Wednesday evening.
Stone added the specific comments that had run afoul of Facebook’s rules were Trump’s false claims about children being almost immune to the virus.
“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from Covid-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful Covid misinformation,” No one can be immune from our stupidity!
And in continuing happy news, I’ve learned I’m on the hook for a maintenance Saturday night starting at midnight.
To continue the shit show, the local concert venues continue to get boned. As “some people” are saying we can’t have concerts again until 2022.
Where do they expect to have those concerts in ’22?
In the venues owned by TicketMaster/LiveNation of course.

Surreal. Antifa harassing a lady in her home.
“FRONT TOWARD ENEMY”
That is all.
Anyone know what wavelength their preferred lasers emit on? It will be trivial for me to get the correct eyepro.
Or an homing weapon.
Google says:
532 nm
Today the most common laser pointers sold have beams that appear to be relatively bright. More recently, even brighter laser pointers have been developed that produce green light at 532 nm. This newer technology uses a frequency-doubled Neodymium:YAG laser with a blocked infrared component to produce the light.
It will be trivial for me to get the correct eyepro.
Please let us know what to buy.
https://www.phillips-safety.com/2019/10/532nm-argon-laser-safety-glasses/
Pretty standard lab safety equipment
A mirror would be more effective.
The new body armor
LOL
The problem is they frequently use cheap filters, so you can’t guarantee that they are not also emitting the higher frequency light.
Eye protection has to be geared to the source, and there are many sources. Not trivial. I have some knowledge of this due to a friend who lost most of her eyesight to some dipshit playing with a laser.
Pointing a laser at someone’s face is an attempt to permanently injure them. Lethal force is entirely justifiable.
Even if it doesn’t harm, pointing a laser at someone is a misdemeanor in Oregon. They should have been charged long ago.

Staged? I mean, who the fuck puts on a swastika armband on in the middle of the night? Makes zero sense.
I think there’s more to this story. Andy left a comment that she was wearing a swastika armband. So it doesn’t sound like a randomly targeted home.
I don’t like Antifa. I don’t like people sporting swastikas either. I have no issue with either poison taking the other out.
Now do a Trump 2020 sign or a MAGA hat.
There are consequences for actions. I’m not going into a Baltimore hood and scream Nigga Nigga Nigga at the top of my lungs at 1am. If you want to be a loyal supporter of an ideology that slaughtered millions and continues advocating for more innocent deaths, then be prepared for the consequences of doing so.
Support for nazism should not be banned by the government. However, I won’t shed a tear or intervene when consequences catch up with the individuals either.
The trend of labeling everyone the left disagrees with as Nazi’s is concerning. Cancel culture is concerning. That doesn’t mean though that we have to treat the truly evil with respect to counter the Left’s trend.
Yes. Sure, we can wave this video off as a two bad actors thing. We know how this works though…eventually displaying a USA flag on your house makes you a white supremacist and fair game for attack.
Sure, we can wave this video off as a two bad actors thing.
Or not, as being a “bad actor” by wearing an armband is fundamentally different than being a “bad actor” by committing trespass, assault, and attempting to maim someone.
If it progresses that far, then my guess is America will descend into violent tribalism.
For Andy to highlight a video of antifa harassing an actual no-shit nazi is like the left highlighting videos of a felon who was shot while aiming a gun at police instead of the Breanna Taylor murder to showcase police brutality.
“Harassing” is an understatement. I saw an actual assault, a whole lot of people trespassing, and innumerable attempts by several people to blind her.
Andy’s point all along is that antifa is a vicious, violent movement. This video is part of that genre.
of course. “she didn’t deserve to be raped” and “it was stupid for her to go walking through that neighborhood at that time with those clothes” aren’t mutually exclusive.
Likewise, “even Nazis don’t deserve to be aggressed against” and “wear a swastika, win stupid prizes” are also not mutually exclusive.
Ok what’s the story on wearing a swastika? She just wears it around the house? It’s her cleaning armband?
Or did she deliberately do it to trigger Antifa?
Likewise, “even Nazis don’t deserve to be aggressed against” and “wear a swastika, win stupid prizes” are also not mutually exclusive.
Summed up well Trsh. I should have just deffered to you on my replies to this one.
“wear a swastika, win stupid prizes”
But that’s the point isn’t it? Keep lurching the Overton Window further and further until it’s “[do thing leftists find objectionable today], win stupid prizes”.
If we’re not will to stand up for people being peaceful idiots then we’re a sorry bunch of libertarians.
Whatever happened to “I may disagree with what you say, but will defend your right to say it”?
If we sit by while people assault and attempt to maim somebody for wearing an armband, regardless of what it is, aren’t we saying “Eh, I’ll disagree with what you say, and if you get blinded for saying it, thems the breaks”.
No violation of the NAP should pass unopposed, I guess is where I’m coming from.
What Dean said ^^^.
If we’re not will to stand up for people being peaceful idiots then we’re a sorry bunch of libertarians.
I’m willing to stand up and voice against the government intervening against people being peaceful idiots. It’s not clear that intervention against other private actors, particularly to protect repulsive actors advocating actions that violate the NAP, is necessary to be a libertarian. Would make an interesting article for discussion.
protect repulsive actors advocating actions that violate the NAP
Its possible the victim fits this description, but we don’t know.
“Intervention” is one thing. Although self-defense includes defense of others, and generally would justify shooting someone trying to blind somebody else, I would be a lot slower on the trigger if the lasers weren’t aimed at me and mine.
Condemnation is something else. And that’s what I meant to refer to.
Its not only the government that can violate someone’s rights, you know.
“advocating actions that violate the NAP”
And when they cross over from “advocacy” to actually violating the NAP, we can treat it accordingly. The distinction here is the same as a Leftist professor spewing mind-decaying nonsense vs. Antifa injuring/killing people. I can sit here and comfortably say that the Lefty professor is an asshole, just like the Nazi armband chick but neither should be attacked for any reason and they’re certainly not “winning stupid prizes”.
Antifa should be met with defensive action up to and including lethal force.
I never saw where being an asshole is a violation of the NAP.
It’s not and I’m certainly not advocating making being an asshole illegal. It’s also not a violation of the NAP to not intervene or feel remorse when an asshole meets consequences.
Some rando wearing an armband who isn’t doing shit is no threat to me.
Thugs assaulting me at my residence are.
It’s simple and you’re playing a stupid equivalency game.
I have no clue what you’re talking about at all. I’m NOT supporting or advocating for Antifa assaulting her or anyone else. I also could care less about what happens to her. What equivalency are you talking about?
It sounded an awful lot like a justification for assaulting her, or at least an “I don’t give a shit that she’s being assaulted because she’s engaged in wrongthink; oh by the way Antifa’s bad too.” Today people aren’t allowed to be Nazis, tomorrow it’s having an American flag, the next day it’s not applauding long enough for comrade Stalin.
Take Antifa out of it. You’re making it about a macromovement and societal trends. That’s a fine discussion but well outside my comment. It would be like using my example above of a white guy getting capped in Baltimore for larger discussion of national race relations.
First they came for the Nazis…
Some asshat shines one of those in my direction, they are attempting to inflict great bodily harm on me, and are eligible for a bullet.
One of the things that has surprised me during covid is the thin-skinned pettiness of our leaders. We have men who have made it to the very top of their professions – I would have assumed they would be magnanimous and indifferent to a little criticism – and I’d be wrong.
Cuomo just pulled the liquor license of a bar that made fun of him. No joking about the Dear Leader allowed.
Murphy continues to try to personally destroy the owners of a gym who are defying his (unconstitutional and unlawful) shutdown orders. The purpose of the fines would be to drain their legal defense go-fund-me account down to zero so they lose their legal representation.
Meanwhile, no sign of other gyms in the state every being allowed to reopen. Gyms are going bankrupt quickly – my local one will be gone if the landlord starts charging rent. He’s probably going to do a name change and drop the franchise since they want their money despite being closed for 5 months now. My wife and son have both gone into PA a couple of times to workout. Some gyms around here are now basically “Speakeasys”, letting people in for “personal training” every day. How crazy a dystopia is this where I can drink and drug all I want but exercising at a gym requires skirting the law?
So… something like LA being able to cut off water and power to houses that are hosting “large gatherings”.
literal hydraulic despotism. nii-ice.
Huh, I didn’t know that. I guess the 95% of bars that don’t serve food are shit out of luck and will probably never re-open.
So, what, eating with your alcohol protects against the COVID?
SCIENCE!!!!!
Here in Texas governor Abbot blames bars for the second wave surge. And re-shut them down.
However, I’ve been following neighboring states that did not do so and they have exactly the same Covid curve. Like Oklahoma. Now declining at the same rate too.
I really think this singling out of bars is nonsense. It’s the only thing we still have locked down and it needs to be lifted.
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but at some point it gets pretty fucking compelling.
To my knowledge, there is no evidence from contact tracing or otherwise justifying treating bars and gyms as high risk for COVID transmission.
We do have gyms open and mine does a pretty excellent (if over the top) job on it. They keep everyone distanced and some guys with disenfectant and wipes scurry over after anyone is done and sterilize. No requirement. Just people doing their best.
I really think this singling out of bars is nonsense.
It’s perfectly sensible.
The point of the panic is to inflict suffering and blame it on Trump.
Bars and gyms are pressure relief valves.
Everything possible to maximize stress. So no schools, no workplace, no parks, no beaches, and any of that that is permitted will be jammed full of enforcement stress.
Except its Republican Abbot doing it.
Based on his comments he really does believe bars contributed to the second surge. Probably because it’s much younger people getting it. I think he’s a genuine believer that it’s the cause. I just think he’s wrong.
And DeWine-RINO here in Ohio, changing the last call to 22:00 instead of 02:00.
I think politicians have this stupid need to “do something” even when it’s things they can do absolutely nothing about (like COVID-19). And so you single out industries that have zero political capital and put the screws to them, and tell everyone else you’ve found the source of the problem and are addressing it.
Ultimately the problem isn’t the politicians, they just do what people do when given power; they try to hold onto it. The problem is the disturbingly large number of people in the country who cheerlead for this shit. Without them, this stuff wouldn’t happen.
The no longer view themselves as elected employees in charge of running the government of a free people. They consider themselves our rulers and will crush those who say otherwise.
It more or less always has been so. John Adams pulled the same shit. That’s the whole point of holding them accountable. But they’ve managed to convince a disturbing number of people that they should be wielding all this power. So holding them accountable becomes terribly difficult.
We have a massive problem of people refusing to mind their own business, and government is a reflection of that, not a cause of it.
Abbot is a moron, along with journalists. Texas is going through it’s first wave now – there won’t be a second wave.
I think that as well.
They locked down early and pointlessly. They should’ve waited for the big wave if they were to do it at all. But they shouldn’t have done it at all.
What’s this “NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT” by the NY AG? Did it happen yet? Did Donnie improperly claim a Big Mac and fries as tax deductible? ORANGE MAN BAD.
Cuomo indicted on 6,500 counts of murder in the nursing homes?
Probably. They announced a few days ago that he was under investigation for fraud from before he was president.
See making sure that a prosecutor can go back and search for any of the regulations you failed to meet, means Politicians never have to be afraid of a businessman coming in and edging in on their gig.
The statute of limitations for fraud in NY is 6 years. So it would have to be something he did between 2014 and 2016.
I’m sure Cuomo can EO the statute of limitations away. They did it for pedophile priests, and TRUMP is much worse than them.
“…it is with a heavy heart that I announce this news to my fellow Americans. Orange Man Bad. Good night, and good luck.”
They have been investigating him non-stop since 2016, to the exclusion of everything else other than shaking down Wall Street and BIG OIL. They must have something earth-shattering after only three and half years of work.
He probably had a bunch of sketchy deductions like donating his grundies to charity.
Talk about cockteasing!
And a nutpunch…
So iow the “investigation” is probably anything but.
It’s raining money
With the Federal Reserve and Congress pushing stimulus efforts to new heights, some investors are keeping a close eye on a surge in the U.S. money supply for signs of inflation’s long-awaited return.
With a litany of metrics showing rapid growth in the value of money waiting in banks and other liquid accounts, investors from Ray Dalio to Paul Tudor Jones have warned that the era of tepid price rises may be coming to an end.
“It’s fair to say we have never observed money supply growth as high as it is today,” Morgan Stanley chief U.S. equity strategist Mike Wilson wrote this week.
The “Fed may not be in control of Money Supply growth which means they won’t have control of inflation either, if it gets going,” he added.
——-
As underscored by Wilson, the year-over-year percent change in the M2 supply is now north of 23%. To put that in perspective, year-over-year growth in the M2 money supply had never exceeded 15% until 2020, according to Fed records dating back to 1981.
Normally characterized by slow, steady growth, the M2 supply has grown 20% from $15.33 trillion at the end of 2019 to $18.3 trillion at the end of July.
“The risk of higher inflation may be greater than it’s ever been, too,” Wilson wrote. “While this hasn’t shown up in back end rates yet, the very sharp move higher in breakevens [bond market inflation expectations] and precious metals suggest higher inflation may be on its way.”
You don’t say.
Usual pooh-poohing ensues. Last time, however, the money wasn’t being shoveled directly into the hands of consumers as the government imploded the production sector.
Here’s some fake money to buy shit from companies we won’t let sell you shit!
Hmmm. I don’t know what are inflation safe assets to buy, other than guns and ammo.
What’s entertaining to me, is that I’ve got a couple of noir/detective novels that have people putting their money into rare stamps, art, coins, etc. as a way to try to beat inflation. Sort of like the New York lawyers who would buy a cab medallion in order to be able to raise quick cash for bail (until Lyft/Uber came into the market).
Who was asking me about classical guitar last weekend? I can’t remember but I got a response.
that was me
Ok so here’s what he said and it may or may not be that helpful. He doesn’t know of a good video course or teacher online and says he’s too disconnected from that right now.
But he did say this:
“I would check out the book Pumping Nylon for technique. I think it comes with DVD. And for music, probably start with the Carcassi Etudes. Those two would be a good place to start.”
So if you are self-motivated those might be some good starting places.
Thanks, that is helpful.
It appears that local guitar lessons are focused on electric or acoustic. I can’t find anything that is clearly for classical.
And it appears almost all lessons are restricted to zoom.
It’s going to take a while to find an in-person instructor.
Zoom is probably going to be it for awhile. My kids piano lessons have moved to zoom for now.
The problem with acoustic or electric is the technique is going to be completely different from the plucking and striking so you would have to unlearn some things for classical. Although in the long run it probably wouldn’t hurt. Same layout and all that.
I am trying to avoid the learning and unlearning process.
I did find this guy.
https://www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/
There are beginner videos for starting from scratch — posture and hand position.
Joe doing it again.
https://twitter.com/dbongino/status/1291383621308354566
Hooboy. 2020 keeps delivering the goods.
I just had a thought. What if Joe isn’t being hidden because of dementia, but because he can’t stop sniffing little girls. They won’t let him go into public because they are afraid he might go on a rampage.
Or can’t stop saying racist shit.
You mean, like this?
bwahahaha
“So tell us, Mr. Biden, what are some of those incredibly different attitudes about different things?”
One of the things that has surprised me during covid is the thin-skinned pettiness of our leaders.
Really? They don’t like being told they have no clothes on.
They are the most powerful people in the country and comfortably rich and yet they still have to punish some bar owner who’s going broke because of covid. What dicks.
The requirements for being a politician do not generally yield someone with a predilection for being forgiving and high minded.
The principle requirement being able to win votes. We sadly get the govt our society at large deserves.
That’s the thing, I’m super lucky where I’ve been able to work remotely, and nothing has really changed from a work perspective. When I hear friends in a similar position say the lockdowns are no big deal, I have to remind them how lucky we are. None of the media and government people are affected at all, they have no skin in the game
One of the economics sites — maybe aier — posted a graphic showing lost money based on social class.
As you you’d expect, the poor and blue collar are the ones taking it up the ass whereas most others are scarcely affected.
My NY AG’s big announcement, over which Tweeter was salivating thinking it was gonna be a Trump indictment, is instead suing to dissolve the NRA.
Ooooh. That’ll learn ’em.
I could dissolve the NRA and recreate it in precisely its current form in a couple of hours. Worst case, maybe a couple of days, depending on how the assignment of contracts went.
But the replies say Der Trumf campaign funneled money through RUSHA!11! to the National Reich Echochamber!11!!!1!!1!1!1!11!!!!!!!!
They finally got it. The Organization that anyone who isn’t a Fudd doesn’t have an ounce or respect for in the Gun Community. The one thing i loved about the NRA though was always telling leftists that it was the oldest Civil Rights org in the country.
She is going after Wayne LaPierre personally for using the org as a private slush fund.
He probably does.
But when are they going after Morris Dees?
When New York gets a Conservative AG who is willing to persue Political Prosecutions?
LOL good one
So, here is the ‘Breaking News’ from the NY AG that limey mentioned: “I filed a lawsuit to dissolve the National Rifle Association for years of self-dealing and illegal conduct.”
The disappointment on the Twitter right now is palpable. There was so much crowing this morning about how Trump was gonna get indicted and they would finally get him this time.
As stated, they still have hope this will take down Trumphitler, somehow.
I was talking with a friend, and was kinda hit off guard when he made an off hand comment about a joke about how America is run by the Oil and Gun lobbies.
I don’t think i realize how much they really think that if not for the NRA there would be no opposition to Gun Control. It’s like they think that if the NRA goes away all the people who support it would too.
People only oppose ‘Common Sense’ gun control because they are paid by the NRA! (I know how cause and effect work, because I fucking love science!)
everybody should read that Twitter thread and internalize exactly what those people are saying. There’s a whole lot of “I don’t know what they did, but I’m sure they’re guilty of something, and Trump has to be too. Prosecute them all!”
They hate you, and they want you dead. But they can’t do that if you’re armed. Very important to disarm people before you march them to the camps.
LOL what a ? she is.
Now do the SPLC.
And then do the Clinton Foundation.
I’ve seen people pointing out that NRA subsidiaries are the only groups handling range insurance and certified training. If they get rolled up by this, that could seriously mess with people and places that are only allowed to operate if they check all the bureaucratic boxes. Law man says you must be certified by one of these recognized groups to run a range, get a CCW etc, nevermind if the only group that they’ll accept is now locked down and owned by NY lawyers. Like DC vs Heller round 2 where there are no gun stores to run the background check so the local police are the only people running them and are taking literal months to run a National Instant Criminal Background Check System check.
A non-profit was being used as a slush fund to enrich insiders?
Huh.
It’s inconceivable. Non-profits are the highest level of altruism and honesty.
No the highest level of altruism and honesty is held by the UN Peacekeepers. They express their boundless love to all the little children.
I see Trump is going on the offensive on the debates.
Clever. Force the pace, make the Dems and DemOps say “no”. Now who is refusing to debate?
It’s a good point.
Personally after the GJ/Weld Debacle of 2016, I promised not to vote early ever again. (I had cast my ballot before Weld made his endorsement of Clinton). That being said, i don’t think i’ll be casting a ballot for Jo Jo this year. I see no reason to reward a part of the party that seems to disdain me, and since there’s no chance she would win anyway, i don’t see why it would matter. It looks like I’ll be skipping the Presidential race this year.
Who is this audience that will change their mind depending on how Trump handles this? I honestly haven’t met an American in years that hasn’t completely made up their mind. Limited pool, to be sure.
For the most part everyone here knows what party they will support long before the campaigns happen. The campaigns are mostly about motivating people to actually bother to vote. Hence the presidential coattail effect and off year election losses by the President’s party.
That is the eternal question about the debates: how important are they, really?
As a front in the war between Trump and who I increasingly see as TWANLOCs, its a good move.
Oh trust me. There are millions who haven’t made up their minds and will only tune in the final week leading up to the election. It’s amazing but it happens every time.
The one thing you change is who you convince to actually go thru the process of voting. The debate makes a difference in who is motivated to vote.
HOLY MACKEREL! Oz reporter just asked AG James if she feared for her safety now that she is taking on the NRA because the NRA is such a powerful force and their members are so loyal.
Theater.
Let me see if I can roll my eyes any further…..nope, sure can’t.
If she’s worried about that, then no wonder she won’t go after Antifa.
Sometimes i legitimately wonder if I’m crazy, because of the constant gaslighting by journolists to make any political violence appear as if it comes from the right. They refuse to even acknowledge the existence of Antifa, let alone riots they cause, and at the same time latch on to any kind of statement as proof that all gun owners and gun rights supporters are ready to kill.
Journalists, like gun-grabbers, lie. They lie about everything.
For the love of all that is holy, can people PLEASE stop calling Attorneys-General, “General So-&-So”? It’s not a rank.
Sure it is. There’s Private Attorneys, Attorneys-Captain, and of course don’t forget Brevet Attorneys-Sergent-Majors-General
I was nominated for Attorney Generallissimo, but then they found out I never went to law school.
A General (general officer) is called that because historically their authority was general, not specific , and that is similar to the root of the Attorney-General title. An attorney is one who is empowered to act in another person’s stead, an Attorney General is one empowered to act on behalf of us all. If you think about it the title General is literally a generic title, and specifies nothing.
I believe the original form was “Captain-General” and the ‘Captain’ got dropped over time.
However, you forget that words get to pick up meanings, to General has acquired a specific meaning in addition to the general one.
General Specific is commander of the Universal Division of Military Intelligence
One of my pet peeves. Not counting the military, nowhere else is someone’s job title used when addressing them. Even bigshot CEOs are typically referred to with their job title once, as in “Apple CEO Steve Jobs”. Not every single time they are referred to.
My proposal, BTW, to retitle my legal staff as “General Counsel”, “Colonel Counsel”, etc. didn’t get very far.
“Captain-Counsel? Were you some sort of superhero?”
“No, I had an odd boss. I was a staff lawyer.”
I prefer being a commanding lawyer. The staff lawyers are all bureaucrats.
I’m sorry you were offended, Vice President Biden.
The vice President is Pence.
These are jobs, not titles of nobility.
You’re such a lying a racist, I can’t even.
*clicks heels*
Jawohl, mein General!
Now do the Clinton Foundation.
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday that her office has filed a lawsuit against the National Rifle Association and its leadership, including Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, looking to dissolve the organization.
James accused the organization of having “a culture of self-dealing,” taking millions of dollars for personal use and granting contracts that benefited leaders’ family and associates.
“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James said in a statement. “The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”
Sure, THAT’s why you want to “dissolve” it.
Guess I was late to the NRA dissolution party.
As if the Southern District of New York office exists for any reason other than enriching itself. Does she even hear the words coming out of her mouth?

At least i agree that democracy certainly attempts to strip people of their rights.

“No one is taking your guns.” Yeah but you want to.
Beto O’Rouke said hell yes, he’s going to take your guns.
Joe Biden said he wanted who, again, to drive his firearm policies?
He has also been touting the 90s AWB. And there is the draft DNC platform. We know what they want.
And Feinstein said on national TV in the ’90s that she would have had door-to-door gun confiscations if she could have gotten the votes.
“Nobody wants to take your guns away” is bullshit and always has been.
Your right to bear arms is not a “God given right”.
It was given by the constitution, written by men.
To think it is, is nothing less than ridiculous.
Curious considering that the wording 2a, like the rest of the BoR, suggest that the right already exists and states it is not to be tampered with.
You have no right to effective self defense, nor do you have a right to defend against a tyrannical government.
Are most people Hobbesian?
What kills me is that the same people who think like that are many of the same people who think that the Constitution guarantees gay marriage (with compulsory participation by businesses), taxpayer-funded abortion, and mandatory tranny bathrooms.
Of course, because those are rights that humans decided to give each other. Slavery was Ok until the 13th amendment, then it became a rights violation.
