Joker cruised, Isner was a bounced (how old is that dude now, 50?), Gauff was bounced, and there were some big moves at the baseball trade deadline by the Padres. And that’s pretty much it.
German composer Pachelbel was born on this day. He shares it with publisher James Gordon Bennett, baseball HOFer Jim O’Rourke, railroad tycoon Mark Hopkins, novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs, boxer Rocky Marciano, singer Conway Twitty, attorney Alan Dershowitz, Bee-Gee Barry Gibb, psychologist and TV personality Phil McGraw, football coach (that Tennessee never should have fired) Phil Fulmer, singer Gloria Estefan, wrestler “Bam Bam” Bigelow, soccer great Ruud Gullit, and another wrestler Superfly Jimmy Snuka.
And that’s it for birthdays. Now on to…the links!
The New York Times pretty much goes full retard. Did they not get the memo that you never go full retard? Apparently not.
Just in case you always thought this was a scam. Good for her.
Kenosha can breathe a sigh of relief. Well, once everybody hauls ass down to Chicago to catch their flight for the west coast.
This headline is hilarious. I guess Pelosi calling the GOP “enemies of the state” isn’t inflammatory. Hell, Dem pols have been accusing the right of being violent psychopaths for weeks or months even. But this gets called “inflammatory.” Never change, CNN.
I think this was inevitable even before all the violence. Once people got a taste of working from home and companies realized a decentralized workforce was cost-effective, this was going to happen. I just hope they don’t bring a big-government, nanny-state mentality with them.
Dammit, she was the only fun judge in the state. Justice in Kentucky will always be square, man.
The real Abe would be ashamed of this man. Fucking degenerate weirdo.(I tried to come up with a Lincoln quote to use here but came up empty. Feel free to help in the comments.)
Ron Jeremy’s legal woes keep piling up. And he really looks like shit too.
And now some good news! Seriously, this is pretty awesome.
Enjoy this. I will.
Now have a great day, friends!
I always thought it was a scam.
Me too. They wanted you to buy a bunch of subscriptions to magazines you were never going to read.
And they wouldn’t let you get cool stuff like Shwank and Biguns… eleven for the articles!
Marx was right about something being the opioid of the masses, only it wasn’t religion like he claimed, but the pablum based on envy he peddled. Lazy fucking asshat that hated the fact people like him had to work and produce value to get respect and credit. Over 100 million butchered in his evil religion’s name – and have no doubt that the marxist orthodoxy surpasses the crazy of every other fucking religion – and at least a couple of billion made to live in the misery of the cult of envy.
Nice to see you go old school and represent 19th century baseball for a change.
I had to seek it out. The cupboard was bare today. Even you’d admit that.
Had a great player at #1, which you nailed.
And Rico Carty at #3, which is a great name.
Plus, check out the stache:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/req/202007270/images/headshots/b/b7e9aba2_sabr.jpg
Rico was a great character too. The Beeg Boy will hit!
I heard Rico Carty always played with his wallet in the back pocket of his uniform because he didn’t trust anyone in the clubhouse.
Sounds about right. He tended to do things just the way he wanted to.
I’ll also always remember that 1966 Strat card where Rico has catcher eligibility. It’s a monster.
Yes, that might be the dorkiest baseball thing that’s ever been said (I wasn’t even alive in 1966, of course) 😉
In 1992, Cory Snyder played one game at SS and immediately went from backup outfielder to starting SS for my fantasy team.
You talking about Uncle Rico?

I was a huge fan of “Rusty” Stuab when I was little kid. As you would expect, He was a Ginger fire-plug and an asshoe.
Good morning!
Guitar gig bags are a good discreet way to haul your shoulder weapons around, but for the love of big boobs, keep the scope mounted on the rifle. What, you think you’re gonna have time for a few sighting shots when you get to your hide site?
I generally go with folding stock rifles/shotguns in a beat up tennis racket bag. Smaller and low profile while looking like something not really worth stealing. Unfortunately, AR’s have to be broken down to fit – so I stick with FAL’s, Saiga’s, Galil’s, etc.
I also have a sweet BM-59 alpine folding stock grafted onto an M-14 wood stock which goes on my M-1A SOCOM-16. Folded it’s just about 25 inches overall.
I always thought this was a problem when I saw it happening on tv. Then I got a set of detachable rings for my hunting rifle, because there were grounds I would go to with a scope and grounds I would go to on different trips that were better with sites. I was shocked to discover that year that they really did hold zero after being pulled off and put back on.
Sometimes you do get lucky. Good rings and mounts help.

goddamnit. I searched Pachelbel to see if anyone mentioned this in the comments but you misspelled it so I did not find it
heh, guess you should read first.
I do read but sometimes miss a comment or two. which is why I search.
“Pach” should have brought my comment up. No need to search the entire name. Especially with the way Americans spell foreign names.
Trump’s inflammatory behavior on Monday came on a day that could come to be seen as critical for the destiny of the White House after Democratic nominee Joe Biden launched a counterattack, warning no one was safe in “Trump’s America” — which he said was hobbled by disease and fear.
You tell ’em, Joe.
Biden’s words are unifying while Trump’s are inflammatory.
Also, check out this bit of retarded messaging: https://twitter.com/npr/status/1300614359236964358?s=21
I can smell the terror 500 miles from the border. Things have changed.
I, uh, erm, this is not good for my view of humanity.
“Without evidence”……….They actually pulled that one out. NPR is a truly despicable news agency. Anytime NPR says without evidence you can be sure there is all kinds of evidence.
Who you gonna believe, huh? Them or your lying eyes when you watch all the video footage of the artifacts cuntes running the kid down and trying to inflict bodily harm? Seriously, these fuckers hate that they no longer have the ability to control what we can figure out, but decided the way to counter that was to lie and insult people’s intelligence. Not to tell the truth.
Damn, I just blew a gasket reading that. Thanks a lot.
He knows, cuz his party has been the one doing the hobbling.
$6.6 million for the Hedgehog’s bail? Yowza.
That seems a tad ridiculous. I bet he doesn’t have two nickels to rub together – not after filling his house with a gigantic hoard.
Wait, WHAT?! He’s a HOARDER?!
Dear A&E, get on this. Nao.
Right? Did you see that episode he already appeared in??
I googled. That’s on HOARDING: BURIED ALIVE and I have barely seen any of their episodes because I don’t get them on my teevee. I have to settle for what’s on YouTube. I’ll look for it.
Yeah, the hoarder was some crazy old bat in Hollywood, and he was her “support” – no mention of any co-dependency that I can recall.
From what I have seen, the people on BURIED ALIVE are all very soft-spoken tippy-toeing around the hoarder and their issues. BURIED ALIVE doesn’t have a psychologist or anything, just a professional organizer, and there’s no Matt Paxton (HOARDERS) to give the tough love. Yeah, HOARDERS is played up and edited for drama, but they get stuff done in the episode.
Also, Matt Paxton said one of the most life-changing things on one episode: “We’re all just 5 bad decisions away from shitting in a bucket.”
Yeah, Matt rocks.
And now I’m just remembering that I missed most of the new season that completed (?) yesterday (!).
Me, rushing to tell my husband of this news: I suddenly have an interest in Ron Jeremy. He’s a HOARDER!
Husband: *facepalm*
He’s got a weakness. Apparently he can never get enough.
That, and besides that, hoarding is a manifestation of some serious OCD.
And with the other two of the Big Three™ too chicken-shit to show up, it’s his tournament now. Unless a hero steps up.
We don’t need a “hero.” We need Joker to win handily. Just so when he passes Federer, the media can try and put an asterisk by his total.
Fair enough – sticking it to Federer is always a noble cause. I’m more or less indifferent to Joker, though, and in that case I tend to root for an underdog.
the deputies tried to stop him for “code violations related to his bike riding.”
No helmet? He coulda got killed.
LOL
“Largo woman wins million-dollar”
I read that as “large woman” and then looked at the picture.
“They was right, too”
Shoulda been “Largo woman wins Big!”
The record company that he signed with was trying to make Conway Twitty the “Next Elvis”. He made out alright just being the cornpone that he was born to be.
I got my first Conway Twitty album in 1961, had never heard of him, still like the “Mississippi Man” and now got a cd or 2.
My Grandma was a fan. Her daughters went bonkers for the Beatles so maybe some push-back there. Her record collection in the “stereo box” had lots of old timey country gems. That was back when the stereo was a piece of furniture that took up a good potion of the sitting room. Why am I telling you this? You probably owned one too 🙂
I did, combo TV/AM/FM and record player, stack ’em up and listen for an hour or two.
My mom picked up one of those in the 80s – maybe at a garage sale? – and the thing was already 20 or 30 years out of date but I’ll be damned if it didn’t work.
The sound was pretty good. Ford/Philco if I remember correctly. Stacking those records killed them though.
I’m so glad I never built a record collection bigger than the handful I had. Not that cassettes were that big of an improvement….
We didn’t know…
Was it Gilmore who used that as his avatar?
Yes. Alas.
I think so.
I thought it was Wayne Cochran

Yeah that’s Wayne. Conway sported a similar but less exuberant chapeau.

“Iowa State announces it will allow around 25,000 fans for its football season opener against Louisiana on Sept. 12.”
The more schools that take this position the faster we’ll get out of this.
In some states it’s the governors preventing attendance.
true.
The pearl clutching in that thread is insane
“OMG Story county is one of the worst places in the world right now”
Iowa has good stats available…80% of people who tested positive in Story county are between 18 and 40 years old.
Needless to say there’s exactly 1 person in hospital with the commie cough.
By the time this football game happens Story county will be back to 5-6 ‘cases’ a day.
I live in Story county. We are in the midst of a brief spike due to students returning, but it is already over the hump. The baseline number of cases/day had been just under 10, had a spike to 225, and is below 100 and declining now. With students back I suspect it might level off around 20-30/day, then drop slowly.
My good friends post Facebook messages every day citing the sky-rocketing number of cases in Linn and Johnson counties. It’s shocking that we are not all dead by now.
Maybe we are and you just don’t know it, man!
/COVID fetishists
You’re just not hip to the racism and collectivism that is the pulse of America in 2020. Do better, son.
I was active in The Corps when diversity training kicked in, early 90s. We had a battalion meeting lead by some desk jockey zero. When the meeting was opened up for questions, emotions ran high and the zero lost control. White dudes were asking why the dark greens (blacks) could shave their head, but when whites did it was considered eccentric and verboten. The dark greens dudes were upset that they were no longer allowed to hug the WMs (women marines); and a dark green gunny, who should’ve known better, said that hugging is just what “his people” do, so it’s not harassment. Lots of yelling; I thought there was gonna be a massive brawl. It was a mierda show.
I have for a while harbored the unprovable feeling that this diversity training shit is mostly about forcing people to accept shit they would otherwise not because of how stupid it was, but also about fomenting devisions and create cultures of us vs. them. Marxist want the masses consumed by envy of what others have. Most people would fuck themselves over hard as long as they felt their neighbor got it just a little bit harder. Mind you, it’s about feeling the neighbor got a rawer deal: not about anything real. Misery loves company.
Agreed, and I think there are legion useful idiots who are all-in-SJWs and believe that by incessantly drawing attention to our differences we’ll somehow unite.
The zero’s only response should’ve been, after excoriating the gunny, “We’re only doing this because the higher-ups require it. We’re all green. Act accordingly. Carry on.”
The Democratic nominee pointed out the flawed logic behind Trump’s approach, given that the unrest hitting cities in Minnesota, Oregon and Wisconsin is unfolding, after all, on the President’s watch.
“The violence you’re seeing in Donald Trump’s America. These are not images from some imagined ‘Joe Biden’s America’ in the future. These are images from Donald Trump’s America today,” Biden said.
Get back to me when Trump invites a bunch of BLM hucksters to the White House and apologizes to them and engages in an official program of appeasement. Because that’s exactly what I see happening in Joe Biden’s America.
I also see Biden turning on a dime and blaming everything on the governors and mayors.
That will be Co-Mo-Loh’s doing. Biden will be in the drool room.
This is (as expected for politics) damned if you do, damned if you don’t. The places where the riots continue are the places refusing federal aid. So yeah what is happening is Democrats letting them run rampant, crying tyranny if the feds do anything and then blaming Trump. The fact that Biden is taking this tact just proves that the Dems are letting the riots occur for politics.
Good morning, Sloopy!
Thanks for wading through the news swamp to bring us the lynx.
I know we’ve bemoaned the sad state of journalism, but that Fox News piece on the LA shooting is breathtakingly bad.
Oh, ok then. But what’s that? There’s more to the story?
Whoa, whoa, back up. The guy had a gun?
So the gun was on the ground in a pile of clothes? Nice work, boys. That’s some fine police work, there. And nice passive voice, as well.
Idiots.
Anywho, I hope that the people fleeing the urban shitholes leave their bad politics there, but I’m not hopeful. It seems that many people’s first thought upon entering paradise is the changes that must be made.
We really are just the smartest monkeys.
I hope you all have a better day than Ron Jeremy will. Drugs are bad, ‘mkay?
What do you want to bet they end up having bodycam malfunctions?
“It was the damndest thing. All the cameras died at once! Must have been a solar flare or sumthin'”
Ron, you could have had it all…
The American police does not seem inclined to learn from past events
Why should they? Their union contracts, negotiated with the politicians whose campaigns they contributed to, allow them to pretty much do whatever the fuck they want.
I’ve noted before on these boards that single teams of cops don’t make stops anymore up here. It’s more like “Shock and Awe”. They’re afraid of the body public. This is not a good thing.
This is why I have never understood the obsession that TOS has with Qualified Immunity. Sure, let private citizens sue cops- that is the just thing to do. But unless you bust the Police Unions, you are just going to see cops getting malpractice insurance backed by the state. Hell, the cities already pay millions to lawyers today because of bad cops- precisely because QI doesn’t apply to the actual city/state, only to the individual officer. That continued cost of bad cops hasn’t gotten police departments to straighten up, and QI won’t either.
Indeed, if you were an attorney for a client, who would you rather sue- a Cop you could get a million out of before he declared bankruptcy, or the local police department? Keep in mind that you can probably do one or another. It is difficult to argue that the police department’s process/training/etc was deficient when you are ALSO arguing that the cop was personally liable for acting badly.
The idea seems to be to force police to individually carry malpractice insurance, like doctors. After one or two payouts, the individual cop becomes uninsurable and can no longer work. It’s a workaround unions and cities not firing cops that rack up those liabilities for city’s and states.
In theory, it would work in the absence of fixing the system, but proponents don’t seem to realize that cities and unions would subsidize those policies, spreading the risk and letting the taxpayers cover it, just like they do now.
The insurance premium needs to be paid by the officers themselves. The department can bump up their pay for the cost of a premium for a “good” or “default” officer.
If the officer draws more complaints, he costs more to the insurance company and prices himself out of a job. If he’s great aka cheaper to insure, he gets to pocket the difference.
Plus, malpractice insurers do a good job of forcing their subscribers to adopt best practices. Not perfect, by any means, but much better than the pro-cop, pro-union, state negotiates agreeing to give the police union so much power.
A NY Post writer I’ve never heard of, which probably means “recent graduate” and all that implies.
It’s a shame about Dershowitz and “Diddler Island”. I always liked him as a Constitutionalist lawyer. Sad.
I mean he probably had a good time all things considered
To throw all that away for a “rub and tug” seems foolish.
the man is 82 he aint got much left
Aldo I am sure blowjobs were had
Did he finally admit to something?
I’m as puzzled as you. If only there were a way to direct people to a news report or other account of recent developments . . . .
Was there something in the links I missed, or is it just being discussed because it’s his birthday?
German composer Pachelbel was born on this day – it does not rhyme with Taco Bell…

Re Marine COL. I’m assuming he told the NYT about this. Which might indicate why he was passed over. By the time you are O6 it’s all politics, and I guess he didn’t make friends.
Yeah, that’s one of those stories that, on its face, communicates the opposite of the intended message…
My father left the navy cuz he was passed over one too many times. He’s a gringo. It happens.
I’m a bit dumbfounded that the media is going with the Trump caused the riots. I guess it will convince a certain segment of the populace who were already going to blame Trump for anything bad.
Well Trump by his very existence create3d social tension which blew up in riots. If Hillary was president the lefties would be less inclined to riot.
It really shows their contempt for people, doesn’t it?
It turned on a dime. I watched, basically in real time. It’s diabolical. Hive-mind.
If my FB feed is anything to go by, people deserve all that contempt for believing it because…they believe it.
Yup. We’ll see how well trump responds. Though the rhetoric Biden is giving is pretty much a green light to steemroll the local authorities and put down the protests. If Trump is at fault for something the locals won’t let him fix…
Like i said, it’s Heads I win, Tails you Loose.
I think he’s playing it smart. Basically saying that he has no right to send in the Feds, but if the locals ask for help the riots stop the next day.
The dem mayors and govs are evil fucks.
For sure, it’s just very cynical play for the left to then blame him for what they actively fought against him fixing.
It’s flop-sweat. The riots got away from them and the smart ones know how this is playing out in the real world.
I hope you are right, Tundra. Mind you, you’re living in ground Zero. I want to see enormous push back from the devisive bullshit. Like bigly.
IME, most of the right-thinking, left-voting urbanites are pretty pissed at the local pols, but they can’t bring themselves to consider a vote for anyone with an R ext to their name.
So they are looking for a better alternative on the left. Some want somelike Biden – less radical but comfortably progressive. Some want straight up Socialist politicians.
Not one right-thinking, left-voting urbanite I’ve encountered would ever consider voting for anyone with an R or LP after their name under any circumstance.
The question is, will any of them be demoralized into not voting this fall? I don’t think so. As much as they disfavor black-and-immigrant-owned businesses being burned to the ground, its nothing compared to their hate for Trump.
I think it depends much on the location of the people. “moderate” leftwingers who are not pleased with Biden where i live? They are still going to hold their nose and vote for him. In Kenosha? I don’t know. I think being at the epicenter of these things might be enough to get people to desist from voting at all. But maybe the Dem strategy of hardening their resolve that everything is Trumps fault will indeed play out.
Leon, I”m not sure if you are aware, but I live in Minneapolis. From my office right now, I can see the Foot Locker that was the second store broken into by the MN riots last week. I can almost see the Target that was the first. I am friendly with some CVS employees that locked themselves into the back of their store when it was being broken into.
These right-thinking, left-voting urbanites that I interact with are Minneapolis residents.
I forgot that. Well then…. I don’t know what to say.
I think that if the riots do influence the election, its because its going to accelerate the shift of rural, historic Dem voters starting to vote Republican. I don’t know if it will happen, but I could totally see MN, WI, PA, and/or OH going red on the backs of increased turn out in the rural parts of the state.
I know it was a publicity stunt, but like 5 life-long DFL (MN dem party) mayors in rural MN recently signed a letter announcing their plan to vote and support Trump this election.
He kind of played the Democrat governors and mayors. First he threatened to send federal agents and the military in, they threw up a shit fit. So he went to he’d send them in on request, they publicly refused that as well. He keeps handing them paint brushes to let them paint themselves into corners.
I have seen many Black Lives Matter and Love Trumps Hate signs in yards around here. What I don’t see next to those are Biden signs. Hmm.
Don’t know how much convincing will be needed. Lot of people already KNOW the rioters are right-wing false flag operations.
That CNN article is almost unbelievably bad.
“”It was a terrible, terrible thing to witness,” Trump said. His alarmism was expressed in a rant that resembled a highlight reel of conservative media buzz words and conspiracy theories including “radicals,” “maniacs,” “Antifa,” “looters,” “arsonists” and “fascism.””
Ahh, back to “ANTIFA” is a conspiracy theory. Yup fill those ears with wax, so you don’t have to hear the lamentations of the poor who are suffering from the barbarians.
So are “looting” and “arson”.
But… but.. the INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY said that the biggest terrorism threat are RIGHT WINGERS!!! Like the Proud Boys and Atomwaffen!
I really like today’s music selection.
Here’s one from today’s birthdays: don’t trust the MSM!
Yeap, one of their best
During a White House news conference on Monday, President Trump suggested that the 17-year-old accused of killing two people with a semiautomatic rifle at a protest in Kenosha, Wis., on Aug. 25 had acted in self-defense.
“That was an interesting situation. You saw the same tape as I saw and he was trying to get away from them I guess it looks like,” Trump said of Kyle Rittenhouse, adding, “He fell and then they very violently attacked him and it was something that we’re looking at right now and it’s under investigation. But I guess he was in very big trouble … he probably would have been killed.”
——-
Video filmed by witnesses showed Rittenhouse carrying a large rifle and accompanying groups of right-wing activists who have said they went to Kenosha to protect property against rioting. Rittenhouse was also filmed running away from the scene of a shooting and subsequently being chased by protesters. The footage shows Rittenhouse fall as he runs away from demonstrators who accused him of the earlier shooting. He is then seen firing his gun at some of his pursuers from the ground. Rittenhouse was arrested the following day and charged with killing two people and seriously injuring a third.
While Trump seemed to justify Rittenhouse opening fire on the protesters, he repeatedly criticized “left-wing political violence” that has occurred at recent protests “in Democrat-run cities.”
“The wave of violence and destruction that we’ve seen in recent weeks and months has occurred in cities exclusively controlled and dominated by the Biden, Joe Biden party,” Trump said.
Do they teach people to strip away all context in journalism school, now?
Well, it WAS a rifle.
Well the only purpose of an AR-15 is mass murder, so of course he went to murder people.
Well shouldn’t it be called MMR-15 then smart guy?
That’s implied in the “Assault Rifle, 15 bullets/second” name.
You trumpalos aren’t very good with nuance.
A good soldier can fire 3 rounds a minute in any weather

No. They teach them to manipulate facts and lie by omission in order to push their narrative.
Journalism is propagandism. I don’t think it was always this overt here, but it’s almost impossible to find any objective reporting anymore. And our country will suffer greatly because of it.
Yep. Just look at that paragraph: they say he was running from “the scene of a shooting” but conveniently omit that he had been running away from the mob before that first shooting. They also omit that the first shot was fired by someone in the mob.
“He is then seen firing his gun at some of his pursuers from the ground.”
That’s one way of putting it.
So just like in March when we were waiting for the warm weather to tone down the Corona, now we have to wait until the leaves drop to curb the street violence. I hate seasonal change that doesn’t keep its promises.
I’ve seen a couple of news stories already about how the cold and flu season is going to cause confusion with COVID issues, so we should close things down more.
I’m tired of this story. I’ve read before…

Love the response to the governor’s plan.
Wow that Trump is despicable.
50’s Sit-com “Oh That Donald!”
Trump also offered a rationale for the right wing protesters in Portland. He suggested they are rightfully angered by rising crime in American cities.
Why would he say such a thing? Who could object to months of sport-rioting? People are bored, and they want something to do.
See protesting against lockdowners and riots are violent. The “let’s blame the victim” tact that the media has gone with is shameless.
Particularly since victim-shaming is supposedly one of the worst of woke sins.
Jeffrey A Tucker
@jeffreyatucker
It’s completely beyond me why any intellectual from any ideological perspective would deploy his or her own personal capital in favor of continued or renewed lockdowns that shatter lives and violate human rights.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb
@nntaleb
(Pseudo)libertarian minds have the intellectual nuances & logical refinement of somewhere betw. the unicellular amoeba & invertebrate sea slugs.
And of course no notion of scaling of collective risks/dynamics & iatrogenics.
In short: what I usually refer to as “idiots”.

Yes, but for other reasons than “rights”. Because there are more effective alternatives.
Anyway due to Taleb ‘s precautionary principle hobby horse, he sees the pandemic as a great confirmation of his position. Also he as he got older he got more into gerontocracy (i exaggerate but he seems to think the number one priority of any society should be protecting the very old )
I have said it before, Taleb is like Rand. 95% of the time they are right and the other 5% they are so stupid that I don’t know how they remember to breathe.
Hmmm. Seems that i only ever see the 5% from Taleb. Literally every tweet posted by him that i see is him saying something retarded.
Twitter is for the retarded 5%.
And the number seems to be growing larger as he gets older.
It sounds like Taleb doesn’t believe rights exist since he’s willing to wave them away and say they’re not really an impediment to lockdowns.
Precautionary principle and localism and collective risk and fat tails and such. Existential risks suspend rights. But I am not sure fundamentally the guy believes in the concept of rights…
Yes, he is very utilitarian.
Taleb has always been concerned with his personal health, almost to the point of hypochondria.
So Taleb’s response is name-calling?
And he simply throws away hundreds of years of virus research and statistics – which are as much of an assessment of collective risk/dynamics as anything. Iantrogenics is completely pointless in biology – it’s a sociology term.
I guess with that level of error, name-calling is the best he can do.
So Taleb’s response is name-calling? – 90% of the time.
Maybe he’s just too stupid to understand. Tucker should have made it more succinct:
“The virus response is a giant hoax. The virus is not deadly for pretty much everyone. Lose some fucking weight and move on with life.”
If he’s so principled, then if there’s a lockdown he should donate his paycheck charity.
The virus is not deadly for pretty much everyone. – as I said this does not matter as the very sick old people are the most important
It’s all the rage now.
That’s what living in a dark age means.
Yes. He is a serious intellectual with new and interesting things to say.
/sarc
Taleb is an idiot. And so are those comments.
Anyway it’s funny that Taleb pisses away personal capital just as Tucker said.

They can when it would suit the narrative. This is the same problem they have with science or fact checking things: that is, they only seem to do it right when it benefits their marxist agenda.
“And he really looks like shit too.”
He definitely ain’t the looker he used to be.
Of all institutions to scream “racism!” about, the Marine Corps? In my life, my years in the Marines were by FAR the most integrated when it comes to close interaction with people of other races. From day one on Parris Island, the message was that we were all green now, there was no more black or white. The closest thing to a racial incident I can remember came from a Cuban ragging on Mexicans, and the argument was entirely in Spanish.
Racism? They got every color in the rainbow in the crayon corps. The red ones is strawberry yes they is.
That’s precisely the point – the USMC is essentially color-blind. That is not the woke objective – tribalism is, and where tribalism is absent, well that is problematic.
That’s what is really bothering me about this. I grew up not exactly color-blind because we didn’t have many “colorful” people living around us. As I grew older and moved out in the world it kept me in good stead, people are people. I don’t know what to make of this bullshit but it sure as fuck ain’t “The Pepsi Generation”. Fucking Dems need some payback.
I’d like to buy you and the world a coke, Son, we could all live in harmony (with nature of course)
People hate meritocracies. And yes, I know advancing past the rank of major, means you have sold your soul to the political class that decides on these promoytions.
At some time pissing and moaning becomes so tiresome that even when folks have legit reasons to piss and moan you just tune them out. Boy who cried wolf and all of that.
The police have, for some bizarre reason, been trained to use guns as a first resort, and when they inevitably start shooting people who shouldn’t be shot, the focus gets put everywhere it shouldn’t be and never where it should.
In this clip a North Carolina gym owner describes the actions of the local cops coming to shut down his local gym due to the ‘rona. He describes the scenario and apparently the cops came into the gym with their hands on their guns. Seriously.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dATK4AofZH4
Well the law is always envorced by the threat of death so they were just cutting to the chase.
I don’t think it has anything to do with training, I think some cops are just gun happy. I have a friend in Chicago PD and he is usually sent to the worst gang neighborhoods. He says he reached for his gun once in ten years.
The reason isn’t bizarre at all. Quit thinking of the police as muscle-bound ‘roided-out ex-high school football jocks. That ship sailed years ago.
The police today are, for the most part, weedy social workers with psych degrees and no experience in violence or criminality. They go to guns first because, after harsh language, guns are the only tool in their toolbox.
Eh, they still have their fair share of meatheads with rage issues, too. It’s not an either/or situation.
I don’t know about the social workers part, but the weedy part is definitely accurate. When the taser doesn’t work, they have no hand to hand skills, and they go to guns.
5’4″ girl taking down a guy like me. Sure. I could take a male cop my size and I’m just an average Joe. Back in the old days they recruited the largest and meanest fuckers they could find.
Gyms officially reopen today. The owner of my gym is going to half-ass following the impossible rules. He’ll make people sign in for the contact tracing and put up a sign about masks. He isn’t throwing out half his equipment to satisfy the 6-foot rule. Our town doesn’t have cops, if the staties actually show up, he’ll just shutdown again for a while.
Rip is right as always – my gym is one of my biggest ways of interacting with the community. It’s where I talk to other normal guys. My son is an Exercise Science major and we’ve talked about finding an undeserved market after he graduates. But never in this fucking state.
Pay down the mortgage? How big is their mortgage? Anyways good for them.
I wish every one of these started with “I guess I have to shave off 40% to the government first…”
Good point.
The government will find a way to up that number to closer to half.
I am naive, but I think these stories help reframe the tax issue to most people. Sure, the guy who works hard and earns his money deserves to fork over lots of money in taxes. But the person who has a good moment (luck) happen to them has to pay the same amount and that actually seems unfair because it’s easier to see that the government did absolutely nothing to deserve taking a piece.
“Pay down” means “pay off” in many Midwesternish places.
Fake news. He’s always looked like shit.
Well, that’s the joke!
Don’t disband the police force yet, Mister Mayor
Portland Police declared a riot on Monday after roughly hundreds of protesters marched on Mayor Ted Wheeler’s residence at a condominium tower to demand his resignation, according to reports.
The crowd of about 200 were there to mockingly celebrate the mayor’s birthday before the demonstration quickly turned destructive and an “arson fire” was reported, police said.
Protesters lit a fire in the street, as some danced to the “Macarena,” according to Allison Mechanic, a reporter for KATU News who posted the video on Twitter. Others placed a picnic table from a nearby business above the fire to feed the blaze.
——-
Wheeler has been targeted by some demonstrators in Portland who say he’s been too heavy-handed with the use of the city’s police force. Protesters have issued demands, including police budget reductions, as well as, his resignation. On Friday, there was a sit-in protest in the lobby of his condo.
Wheeler isn’t commie-ing hard enough to satisfy them. I dread to think of who they would replace him with.
“roughly hundreds”
*sigh*

“as some danced to the “Macarena,”
Fucking cultural appropriators!
You would think people would be protesting the mayor for not squelching all the previous riots. Silly me.
“He dropped a gun. Now lets shoot!”
What???
Ya, and what were the code violations while riding a bike? Carrying laundry? WTF
I assumed he wasn’t wearing a mask.
Oh, well good shoot then /Everyone on the internet
Drebinesque……
“In fairness, I backed over the last two with my car. Fortunately, they turned out to be drug dealers.”
Isn’t dropping the gun what the cops usually want to happen?
Apparently so they can then fire without any danger to themselves.
Screwdrivers are shiny, look like guns in the diminishing light, concealed (carry) under a pile of clothes
I pictured them heaving big-gutted sighs of relief when the gun appeared.
Use only when required, throw downs cost money, too, ya know, and on a cop’s budget…
/not knowledgeable of the situation
Yeah, this doesn’t sound like a throw-away gun left in a little box in the back of a squad car at all…
A 4 day working week with no loss of pay in the public sector would create 500,000 new jobs, and cost the same as the government’s job retention scheme.
It’s an idea whose time has come.
https://twitter.com/AyoCaesar/status/1300350757787635713
Whenever I hear this 4 day stuff to create jobs I remember there are so many fields where there is a massive shortage of qualified people. I assume for government it does not count as no qualification required.
Oh yeah, that’s what we need. Yet more benefits for the public employee dole.

Yeah, he pops up in my Facebook feed every day. I can’t remember if it’s usually targeted advertising or an acquaintance reposting, because I typically breeze on past. This one caught my eye.
Can’t you complain that it’s offensive?
Uh. Oakland officer killed by a “right wing terrorist”? Am I missing something?
Oh never mind, it was that guy with the van or something. “Ties to boogaloo group” alleged by prosecution.
They’re talking about this.
Man oh man.

My. God. What a Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeetard.

No release from the meatgrinder of justice
A federal appeals court has declined to order a criminal case against Michael Flynn dismissed. Instead, it ruled Monday that a judge can hear arguments about the Justice Department’s motivations for dropping the case against President Trump’s former national security adviser.
The 8-2 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, keeps alive a Department of Justice case that Attorney General William Barr had ordered dropped in May. The court also refused to remove U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who has been overseeing the case.
In response to Barr’s move this spring, Sullivan had appointed a retired federal judge to look into whether political motives had any bearing on the Justice Department’s decision and to argue those findings in court.
In June, a three-judge appellate panel sided with the Justice Department in a 2-1 ruling. But Sullivan asked for a rehearing by the full bench, resulting in Monday’s decision, which effectively voids the earlier ruling.
——-
Flynn admitted he lied to the FBI in 2016 about contacts with Russia’s then-U.S. ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. However, after twice pleading guilty, Flynn suddenly withdrew his plea just weeks before his scheduled sentencing. He is the only former Trump administration official to face criminal charges in connection with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election meddling.
The process is, indeed, the punishment.
Vox has an especially infuriating story, which I will not link. The gist of it is that they shouldn’t let him off the hook without dragging him through Sullivan’s kangaroo court and then making him appeal. Because that’s how justice works.
See the courts get to upend all seperation of powers, and get to do so because they are the arbiters of what the constitution says.
This is all to keep him from being able to talk before the election…
Flynn admitted he lied to the FBI
What an odd thing to say, given that the FBI didn’t think he lied to them in the first place. He pleaded guilty to the crime that the DOJ charged him with, the very same crime they have now said they don’t have enough evidence to prosecute. Before then, the DOJ also played fast and loose with the terms of that plea deal, and they threatened to charge other members of his family. To say that he was dishonest with them more than they were dishonest with him would be, well, dishonest.
I have never seen so many people engage in double standards when it comes to reporting on the “criminal justice” system. If he were any other man, not connected with the Trump administration, these same people would be calling it the miscarriage of justice that it is. But because he’s an ex-Trump official and his prosecution “proves” the(ir interpretation of) the Mueller report “right” he has to suffer.
This is why I don’t even find these people to be fair-weather friends of criminal justice reform. If it serves a political purpose to throw all principles out the window, they will. Sadly, that even includes past luminaries like Radley Balko and Ken White.
Political Prisoners are a thing in this country.
See also Mann vs Mark Steyn. I think the hockey stick trial has been going for like 8 years
An admission of guilt under duress is not an admission.
They are referring to ritualistic admission of guilt that is part of making a guilty plea.
The real problem, as noted, is that this decision enables judges to act as self-appointed star chambers, appointing their own prosecutors and filing their own charges against anyone they damn well please. That is fundamentally at odds with a judge acting as a neutral arbiter. Sure, sure, “acting” is the verb there, but lines once crossed don’t uncross themselves.
The power grabs by all dimensions of government, except the legislatures which are abdicating, have truly gone off the charts.
I like what Barnes said, and should have been pushed back on the courts. If this is ok, then it is clearly Ok for Prosecutors to investigate a Judges reasons for ruling against them, I mean the government could easily argue here the Sullivan is acting corruptly and would want to see if maybe some Obama people had slipped him some money? Is that what the courts want? Then they need to not overstep.
The Idea that you have to let the courts fuck you before you can seek remedy seems really backwards to me. I.E because they say “He hasn’t decided one way or the other” the courts are saying that they can do anything they want as long as they say they are working towards making a decision on the motion.
The funny thing about judicial immunity (which applies to civil suits only as far as I can tell) is that the justification for it emphasizes the burden being put through a trial would have on a judge.
It’s a burden for them, but not for the unwashed masses, apparently.
I don’t know if it runs counter to the text of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, but it sure seems to run counter to the spirit. If the prosecution drops the case, I don’t see how the court can fish for a new prosecutor. That comes awfully close to double jeopardy to me.
Not just that but it violates the separation of powers. It is well established that the Executive has wide leeway in prosecutorial decisions, and the courts are not supposed to stick their dick in it.
I mean what is the end goal of this? The Judge compels the government to prosecute? How could you then argue that he is being impartial?
That is a fair point. The previous administration exercised “prosecutorial discretion” to the point of officially formulated and legally binding policy with regard to immigration offenses (DACA et al.), but now we are told that the current administration does not have even a fraction of that discretion.
Boo hoo. Trump won’t condemn his supporters that used paintballs and pepper spray in self defense.

Well, I didn’t until now. Ha!
I can attest that the Brits (and Irish and French for that matter) have no idea how to pronounce Arkansas.
“Where part of the States are you from?”
“Arkansaw.”
(blank stare)
“Bill Clinton, Johnny Cash.”
“Oh, “Are-Kansas?”
Tell me about it.
Foreigner: “Where are you from?”
Me: “Utah”

Me: *sigh* Mormonland?
F: Ohhhh!. How may wives do you have?
Well, how many?
(JK, I was born a Mormon)
You mean Ark-An-Sass?
That too.
Let me try: “South Washington”. Did I get it right?

Jeebus, get to the point, Youtube-person.
TL;DW: Ory-gun.
I always thought it was “Oreo-Gun”
Isn’t that an herb?
No it’s what you get when you buy herb from some kid you don’t know.
I thought it was that Japanese fancy paper-folding thing.
Ugh. I assumed when he got “Nevada” wrong he would get “Oregon” wrong too….
So you’re one of those Neh-vah-duh people? I bet you call it Warshington, too. I’ve got my eye on you now.
*Nuh-vad-duh
No, I say “Neh-VA-duh” with short “A” like “cAndy”. When he said “Neh-VAH-duh” I thought he was saying that was the “correct” way.
FWIW, my mom and dad met and were married in Reno when my mom was living there.
I learned it from you, mom.
Is that how it’s pronounced? I always thought it was “ORE-uh-gun”
I see the riots are Trump’s fault.
“LOOK WHAT HE MADE THEM DO!!!!”
Right wing violence: “Look what you did!”
Left wing violence: “Look what you made us do!”
I’m not so sure the Dem Mayors could stop the riots even if they wanted to. Unless if i’m misunderstanding the number of police available in these cities, the rioters outnumber the police by a large margin. The rioters are intentionally dispersing (Anitfa shot callers remind them “to be like water”) rather than engage police when forced. If Antifa decided to actually engage police, the local cops wouldn’t stand a chance.
I’ve had the same thought with with inner city gangs. The local cops would be quickly overcome if gang members ever decided to stand their ground and fight back en masse. That would lead to State and Fed retaliation though that would decimate the gangs so the leader’s making money at the top avoid engaging LEOs as a business strategy.
Antifa has no such restrictions. They are avoiding engagement now for their own reasons but that could easily change. Or not.
I don’t know. The Governors could certainly put an end to this, with the National Guard, and by having the AG investigate the DA’s that are turning criminals loose every night.
^ This. I’ve been doing searches for “kenosha” and since they sent in the national guard last week, nothing’s happening there.
I’ve seen reporting that the Guard has been restricted to just protecting public buildings.
Well, i mean the government has to have it’s priorities. Do you want the Mayors office burned down or the mom and pop?
That may simply be enough to thwart any additional violence — property by itself cannot fight back.
Aegis Combat System
I think if they stopped catch and release the riots would end quickly. Either deny bail, or make bail so expensive the financial backers run out of money. It’s the same people rioting, so if you take them off the streets for 30 days things would fizzle out.
Recently I started seeing what I believe the strategy is with catch and release.
If they keep them in custody they would soon be over capacity and unable to keep an eye any of the people still active on the streets. By rounding up the most obvious every day/night they have records on who was where, when and can follow up with broadcast video to see a lot of what they were doing. Once everything dies down after the election they have plenty of time to pick them up again and charge them.
Especially if it results in that orange guy being kicked out of office. If not, I suspect they will keep turning a blind eye, because if they are not in charge, the will make sure nobody else is. Scorched earth and all that…
That’s more optimism then I have.
Sounds like the same strategy Boston-area cops used with the guy who wound up bombing the marathon.
It would take the cooperation of the DA’s as well.
1. Order the police to take down and arrest rioters / looters as soon as they see them.
2. Prosecute the arrested rioters to full extent of the law try to keep them locked up as long as possible while riots are continuing.
3. If things are too much for the city cops, immediately request state, National Guard, and Federal help.
4. Treasury Fincen should be tearing up Venmo/Cashapp/PayPal/Gofundme for aiding the criminality.
5. Roll up the Twitter and other SM posters knowingly organizing violence.
Take out the cops, they get the Guard.
Take out the Guard, they get the 101st Airborne.
Take out the 101st, they get the First Marines.
Antifa is plenty smart enough to know this is about politics, not force-on-force.
Besides, everybody knows the Feds have nukes.
If they neutron bomb Portland, technically they are protecting Federal buildings.
Right, that was my point with my inner city gangs don’t overwhelm the police even though they easily could at any time. I’m surprised at fast and large Antifa has grown. I think there was 700 rioters in Oakland the other night.
It’s currently about politics, but I can see a possible scenario where the true Marxist revolutionaries are able to wrest control away from whoever is guiding now. It wouldn’t be the first time the tiger has turned on whoever was holding its tail.
Tom Cotton, is that you?
The governors and mayors could end the lockdowns. They could also end the war on drugs.
The fact that these options are not on the table tells me they are fine with the riots. Violence is the health of the state.
Let me rephrase. I agree there are tactics the Dem Mayors could employ to stop Antifa, with the way Antifa is currently operating. However, Antifa has the numbers now that if they changed tactics and actually engaged police, I don’t think some of these local cities could stop them. In that scenario, withholding bail wouldn’t matter because the cops wouldn’t be arresting anyone. Even if they somehow did, local jails and courts would easily be overwhelmed.
You would need the states to send in the national guard to restore order.
” Antifa has the numbers now that if they changed tactics and actually engaged police, I don’t think some of these local cities could stop them”
They would have a larger PR problem that would result in many more being killed by vigilantes if they started to actively attack police. There is only so much citizens can actually take.
Well I doubt the dem mayors will suffer consequences so why bother?
The idiots no’s saying they are tired of the shit will vote for team blue’s biggest marxist pedant as conditioned.
well as voting non democratic is beyond the pale what choice have they got? Just prog harder till utopia kicks in
Announce complete amnesty for anyone who shoots looters.
I believe you mean anyone who shoots Trumpers
In the first MN riots of 2020 (FML), the locals tried playing patty cake. First they asked nicely. Didn’t end the riots. Then they asked sternly. Didn’t end the riots. They they tried disbursal tactics (eg pepper spraying or slow-marching into crowds). Didn’t end the riots. Then they tried minimal arrests. Didn’t end the riots.
Then they used the Guard to perform mass-arrests. Re-announce curfew and let people know they mean it this time. A few minutes after curfew, the Guard approaches an intersection or whatever from all exit-paths at once. Cut off egress routes, arrest everyone. Rinse and repeat all over the city. Ended the riots in one night.
In the second MN riots of 2020, they started out by mass arresting people about 20 minutes after curfew. Fewer uniformed bodies were available, but they did their best to follow the same tactics. Over a hundred arrests in a couple hours. Riot ended before 4 AM, and no appreciable rioting the next night.
I don’t have links – I was watching it all happen on local media an pro-riot twitter.
well just come out an say it: Vote for me or the riots will continue!
The short and sweet version of the Democrats’ pitch:
“Stop making us beat you.”
Astounding to hear the presidential candidate of a major party make such an obvious threat.
I guess he’s right though, the right is a little better at losing.
I’m not sure. The thing is that there will be no hesitancy to put down a mob of “White supremacists” if trump loses. They could burn them alive and all you’d get is a shrug.
All you have to do is look at Waco. They hate you, and they want you dead.
You get more of what you reward, so yes, there will be less violence in America if the violence is not rewarded, and Donald Trump is reelected.
I still don’t understand how Joe Biden (30-year tough-on-crime Senator) or Kamala Harris (district attorney) are supposed to represent the ticket of police reform and “black lives matter”. Electing Biden doesn’t reward the violence any more than electing Trump does. It is just political opportunism.

Whistling past the graveyard
As she has since her 2019 election, Lightfoot pointed to Chicago’s newly minted casino license as an important element in restoring the health of city finances.
Her administration last week issued a request for information from perspective operators. Though it could be years before the “world class entertainment district” with a giant gambling parlor the mayor envisions is up and running, Lightfoot said Chicago will be uniquely positioned to profit from such a project.
“I’m confident that when the time is right we will be able to put together a package of revenue and other incentives to make sure that we have the kind of entertainment district that will not only be true to the legislation that we were able to get passed in Springfield, but to create a lot of jobs that are good jobs, well-paying jobs, to make sure that we bring opportunity to our city and to our residents,” Lightfoot said.

Speaking from experience, Monte Carlo is a pretty boring place unless you’ve got some serious money to spend, or you’re a total motorsport anorak that just likes seeing the track around town. I got a small kick out of seeing the red and whites around the bends on public streets and recognizing the different parts of the track from TV, but after that it was really boring.

Refreshing honesty?
At Monday’s press conference, Bowser was asked if she was concerned that police tactics would exacerbate tensions with protesters.
“What I’m worried about is this country descending into race war,” the mayor replied.
President Trump has repeatedly criticized Bowser and other Democratic mayors for their handling of protests in their cities.
At a campaign rally Friday in New Hampshire, Trump labeled as “thugs” the protesters who gathered outside the White House as he accepted the Republican nomination for president last week.
He repeated the line in a tweet on Sunday: “@MayorBowser should arrest these agitators and thugs! Clean up D.C. or the Federal Government will do it for you. Enough!!!”
Bowser replied that the city’s police have indeed been making arrests for violent protest — but said that the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, which functions as the District’s local prosecutor, has not been prosecuting the cases. “When we arrest people with felony charges, we need the U.S. attorney for the District, who is a federal appointee of the president, to prosecute them,” Bowser said. “Right now, there’s no accountability for the people who came to these protests and attacked our police.”
The U.S. attorney’s office responded on Monday evening, saying that Bowser’s public statement “serves no purpose other than to pass blame and foster innuendo.” The office said it had “aggressively charged” 121 criminal cases between May 28 and Aug. 1. “Since the protests began, this office has never turned down a single case for prosecution in which there was sufficient evidence to support probable cause.”
Which is it?
I suspect Bowser is in a precarious position, as the mayor of a federal protectorate. The High and Mighty will not put up with the sort of bullshit happening in Portland, and will not hesitate to put her in the “collateral damage” column.
Race war? I don’t think so. Maybe a war between commie agitators and their enablers, the dems and left in general, and people who are sick of their shit and want to go back to civilized society.
What race war – those faces in Portland are fucking pasty, not swarthy.
Yeah I watch these videos a lot. The straight up smash and grab the stuff crew seems to be mostly black, but most of the violent people, the people burning businesses out, seem to trend pasty white commie.
Overall, if I had to describe the crowd it’s mostly demonstrators mixed black and white, with black criminals using the crowd as cover to commit large scale theft, and white commie hardcores using it as cover to smash and burn.
That’s what it looks like to me, but I would count the smash and grab crowd as violent, as well.
Oh for sure but I do think there’s a difference between
“Let’s smash through the windows of this bar and steal all the liquor and carry off the computers and cash registers.”
and
“Let’s smash through the windows of this bar and use the liquor as an accelerant to burn out the interior to SMASH CAPITALISM!!!”
One is simple straightforward crime, the other is something much more sinister.
I doubt most of the victims care about the distinction, though.
No, and they shouldn’t. But it’s kind of the difference between say Napoleon invasion of Russia and Hitler’s. Both are evil acts of aggression, but one has that certain fanatical quality of extermination that is much scarier, to me anyway.
I’m talking about an empty bar, just to clarify. Coming down the morning after and seeing your ruined business is horrible either way, but there’s something especially evil about destroying it just to destroy it, rather than to loot it for your own profit.
CNN:
Trump ignores the violence by his own supporters!!!
The prog mob will go right along with this new version of reality presented to them.
It has always been them that are the problem!
Nancy Pelosi: “We took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution …” just before calling Trump an “enemy of the state”.
Projection is strong with her…
That one was one i was suprised more people didn’t latch on to. She’s indicating that should the Dems controll all government, they would be willing to outlaw the GOP.
They hate you, and they want you dead.
And they are well on the way to making that mutual.
should the Dems controll all government, they would be willing to outlaw the GOP.
Justice
Stupid computer.
Justice Roberts, writing the majority opinion:
“Due to the peripheral reference to the Internal Revenue Service, the statute directing that any person not swearing fealty to the Democrat Party shall be transported by train to camps for re-education and labor on behalf of the collective is a valid exercise of the power to tax.”
Like to put that on a billboard so he could read what is thought of him.
Put on a bilboard “Everyone knows you are more influenced by politics than law”. By explicitly trying to “make the court free from politics, he has opened it up by allowing one side to argue that anything they don’t like is political and therefore ruling for it would be the court picking political sides.

It’s kind of cool I get to vote for this guy. I really hope he wins, I cannot fucking stand Spanberger.
Wish he was running in my district. Instead, I get to choose between Pelosi lapdog Luria and asshat Scott Taylor.
Same. Very much looking forward to voting against that spook bitch.
Flight was at “full capacity” with 95 souls on board in a 737-800. Still the best time to travel. Dads full honors was special and had an actual bugle player for Taps. I didn’t cry when he passed but Taps got me. The flag given to my sister broke me.
Pissed because we could only have 10 people but thankful for technology to live stream it back at his watering hole for all his friends to watch.
Condolences OBE
Thanks. Got to reconnenct with a step family that haven’t seen in 20 years so thr positives outweigh the sadness.
Sorry for your loss.
“Taps” is so plaintive it’s painful.
Glad you got to reconnect with family, and I’m sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss, glad that you at least had a small funeral. Husband of my wife’s friend died during peak Covid stupidity, he was buried at a military graveyard with no ceremony, his wife wasn’t even allowed to be there.
That ain’t right.
Aint right at all. That is just some bullshit
I’ve heard Taps twice in the last five years (both of my parents served in WW II), and everything for me was even keeled right up until that point.
Hadn’t thought about it, but Pater Dean has made his wishes clear – cremated, and the ashes spread at his favorite fishing hole in New Mexico. So, no Taps.
My condolences.
Very sorry, brother.
Indoor dining starts in NJ on Friday with all the usual bullshit. But don’t get used to it.
Could N.J. indoor dining be banned again? ’Sadly, I have to say yes,’ Murphy says, if COVID boomerangs
I AM THE SENATE! UNLIMITED POWER!!!!
L’etat? c’est moi
New Jersey: State of emergency; when will Phil Murphy’s one-man rule end?
At least Deblasio’s tyranny is steadfast. “Indoor dining” – pffft yeah right.
NYC has so much lawn and patio space for outdoor dining – the the weather should really be great for it in November and December.
Well, they can just shut down the streets and let the restaurant owners pay to put up barricades and outside tables and chairs. There’s no way the rules would inexplicably change at some point in the future. There’s no precedent for that.
Good God. NJ is just starting indoor dining now? Fascist police state.
More an absolute dictatorship. They stupidly wrote the emergency statute with no limits. Murphy can keep renewing the state of emergency as long as he’s Governor.
I read yesterday that NJ is now leading NY in people exiting the state. Is there any sort of political shift to the right or are all those people now voting with their feet?
The process is what it has always been. NYC is a little bit worse than NJ. New Yorkers escape to NJ so they can have a lower (still high) cost of living, more space and safety (if you pick the right spot), while still being able to get into the city when necessary. New Jersians gladly sell their properties to the incoming New Yorkers so they can escape to a better state.
Nevada is in the same boat and the legislature is all too happy to allow it because
A: washes their hands of the lockdowns.
B: A almost year long paid vacation and bo angry constituents for the most part
Too bad Christie didn’t abuse the statute in a similar manner when he was governor, the Dem legislature would have fixed that shit right quick.
The PA legislature did put limits. The courts ignored them*.
* = Technically, there was a conflict between the statute and the state constitution, but the courts chose to resolve that conflict in the governor’s favor, by exercising a line-item veto of the statute.
I found it an oppressive hellscape in MD when I found out they stop selling alcohol after 10 pm. VA we’ve had indoor dining and bar service with basically no restrictions since June.
I just want to go back to the TWA Hotel ?
I don’t know why youtube recommended this but in honor of Q wherever he may be

You know damned well why it recommended it

Race to the bottom
When a top EU court ruled in favor of Apple in its tax dispute with the European Commission, there was a collective sigh of relief among much of Ireland’s business community.
In July, the court backed Apple and Ireland in their appeal against a 2016 verdict that the iPhone maker must pay 13 billion euros ($15.5 billion) in back taxes. Another appeal is still possible, but a decision in the other direction could have had severe consequences for Ireland’s ability to attract multinational firms.
Foreign direct investment, or FDI, has been a major cog of Ireland’s industrial development strategy for decades, influenced heavily by the low corporate tax rate of 12.5%.
——-
Despite the win, the matter of how big tech companies are taxed isn’t going away. While companies investing in Ireland have cited other factors like access to talent and the EU market, the tax regime attracts the most attention and with that, continued scrutiny.
Tove Maria Ryding of a civil society network called the European Network on Debt and Development said the ruling was disappointing and that there is still a disconnect between profits booked in Ireland and actual activity.
——-
Grant Thornton’s Vale added that varying tax rules from country to country will be costly for businesses.
“It would be much better if there was a global acceptance of a way to do this,” he said.
We need a global tax regime. For fairness. Then the economy will flourish, and we’ll all be rich!
When looking at world and personal events, I’m often reminded of movie & TV scenes.
For some reason, I can’t stop thinking of the scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the Feds are trying to evacuate the “invitees” and Richard Dreyfus rips of his gas mask in the helicopter, and most of the others are too afraid to do the same.
I thought of that scene back in March when all of this started up, and I couldn’t find it on youtube.
The radio star was kulak.

Noyce !
That is what twitter should be…I love it
I, uh, erm… faith in humanity restored.
*thunderous applause and lmfao*
That is phenomenal.
You just made my day sir.
Now that’s art!
So the latest conspiracy is that Trump had a Stroke in 2019.
“Covid has taken, this year, just since the outbreak, has taken more than one hundred year..looks, here’s the lives… it’s just … you think about it…. more lives this year than any other year, for the past hundred years”
— Biden
Lol what you did, I saw it.
Progjection is really really real.
So when Biden said Trump was “stroking violence” it was just his way of dodging the censors and warning everybody about Trump’s illness. Brilliant!
I’ve just cast my ballot in the MA primary without wearing a face mask. There was a guy sitting in front of the polling station who offered me a mask. I replied that I wouldn’t put one on and that was it. Now you get a ballot and a pen and they ask you to keep the pen. Just another thing you can do without a mask despite the universal mask mandate.
I’ve been a good little sheep on the mask wearing. See a sign, put on a mask. I technically qualify for the stupidest mask exemption ever, because I am hearing impaired. I think I’m going to start playing that card.
I mentioned before, I am in that phase 3 vaccine test trial (and got the actual vaccine — I know — because of side effects). The people running the trial actually want me to go out and expose myself to the disease now. I get tested for the disease constantly because of the trial and have to maintain a diary of my vital signs each day.
In other words, I am extremely unlikely to have it.
But I once got into a yelling fight with somebody about my not wearing a mask (I called him a “self-righteous asshole”) before masks were mandated. I got worked up, kinda pissed off, and felt really bad afterward. Didn’t like it.
I now just pop on the mask going any place public. I just don’t want to have a “bad day” because of some stupid confrontation. Not worth it to me right now. Even if I’m “right”, it’s just not worth it to get amped up right now.
I am a person of habit. I go to the same grocery store, and have for years. I go to the same convenience stores, the same liquor stores, the same restaurants. I’m not gonna give some retail employee aggravation by making them confront me. Job made the mask mandatory, so I can either get fired or comply.
It is what it is. If this doesn’t end with the election, at that point I might consider what the next step is.
Same. If businesses require them, I either wear one or go somewhere else. I don’t see any reason to get in a fight with some hourly worker who is just doing what he was told. The villain here is Gov. Coonman, not the guy working at Kroger.
I’m not planning to escalate with the help. If anyone brings it up, I plan to tell them I am exempt. If they push it, I will either leave or put one on (I will carry one in my pocket for emergencies).
I think we’re running out of hills, basically. If nobody pushes back anywhere, then we can’t complain about what is imposed on us.
I am disgusted at how they get “the help” to do their dirty work for them.
Same here, Viking. But I feel the need to push back on this now.
They are succeeding in making this the new normal. AZ just announced, in effect, that the current precautions will be continued throughout the flu season. The 2018-2019 flu season was just announced as (suddenly) unacceptable. They are determined to carry the mask mandates (and presumably the “social distancing” business restrictions all the way through to March this year. I note that this was announced for a disease that has a vaccine, as well, so apparently vaccinations are not enough to switch off the masking/lockdowns. They are edging up to making flu (and presumably ‘Vid) vaccines mandatory, as well.
And once they’ve done it for one flu season, they will do it every year. The economic carnage will be a *shrug* “unintended consequence”. People Who Matter won’t miss a paycheck, and that’s what matters (by definition), isn’t it?
I hate the fact I’ve caved to the mask thing. But it’s just not worth the argument and I especially don’t want to put an employee in a bad position for a policy they have nothing to do with.
Part of me is itching for a fight. I’m just waiting for some dillhole to go all Karen on me so I can make them cry.
That is so very counter my personality. I’m a peacemaker and a conflict avoider. As long as I have a release valve for my frustrations, I’m not going to get angry and confrontational*. However, if I don’t find a release valve, I’ll bottle things up until I explode.
* to the extent I have to be confrontational for my job, it’s 100% an act
There’s no release valve for this situation, and my boiler is starting to deform. When I start seeking out conflict, it’s gonna end in berating some poor fool, at best.
I had that attitude before. Then I got in the verbal fight. Then I felt keyed up for awhile. Then I realized it kinda wasn’t worth it. I wasn’t happier. The schmucks at the store are just following the rules now too.
That is not a pleasant feeling. I cannot STAND the fight-or-flight hormones surfing through my arteries.
Amen.
/clicks “Post”
“The people running the trial actually want me to go out and expose myself to the disease now.”
I wouldn’t know where to go to expose myself to coronavirus if I wanted to. The number of people I know who I’ve been told have contracted it is in the single digits, and none have been recent. I guess I’d have to fly to a cave or research lab in China.
Your best odds are probably at a college bar.
I could definitely expose myself (badumchik) to the ‘Vid, but I happen to know exactly where to find contagious ‘Vid patients, and can get access to them.
Here I was ready to escalate all the way. The right to vote is the only right–besides abortion–that’s sacred to Democrats. So, I wasn’t completely surprised that they didn’t insist on masks.
So technically you should be able to ask everyone to remove theirs so you can read their lips? I like where this is going.
Nice just culling the weak and infirm. I approve, shitlord.
So the latest conspiracy is that Trump had a Stroke in 2019.
SRSLY?
I saw something about Pence being told to “Be ready” when Trump went to Bethesda.
Yup. He had a stroke and is totally unfit for office. Now please don’t mind the man in his basement.
To be fair, you should always have your succession plan in order before venturing into Maryland.
And these are the people who shriek about QAnon? Uh huh.
Didn’t Trump just do 70 minutes live on national teevee last week?
Yup. And there’s footage of him losing his footing for a second as he goes up the stairs to the stage. PROOF POSITIVE!
Of course, he didn’t have to be dragged off and tossed into a van, so there’s that.
It’s time to bring Chevy Chase out of mothballs to reprise his Saturday Night Live Gerald Ford routine. For national unity.
So PCR testing is basically proven as junk science and worthless, we are spending approximately 1 billion dollars a week on testing in this country. Just so you know why it’s still getting pushed constantly. We have blue state governors/mayors using this as a cudgel whose economies are so irreparably damaged they are scared to open the economy back up before the election so people don’t see just how bad things are. What’s happening is criminal and if people took matters into their hands I wouldn’t blame them at this point.
Going to have to disagree with that “junk science” claim, but it’s true that in 90% of positives the target has such a low amount they are unlikely to spread it. We have no way of knowing who the real severe cases are.
It’s junk science to base any kind of policy on them without taking into account the information they are actually giving you is.
Oh yes. So much of what we’re doing is unjustified by science.
Can it detect cylons?
Sorry- “PCR testing” = what?
One of the most widely used ‘Vid tests. It is being used wrong. It involves processing a sample repeatedly until a detectable amount of virus shows. The more times you process it, the lower the viral load. The vast majority of technically “positive” PCR tests have been processed multiple times, and thus are detecting a very low viral load. I suspect that the risk of a false positive goes up every time the sample is processed as well.
IOW, the reports of positive tests as a simple number or even rate are highly misleading.
Polymerase Chain Reaction
Our world just keeps getting dumber.
I’d love if Jo Joregenson gets a ton of votes because those stupid signs look like its saying “Jo”
Also, as many pointed out there: “Pokemon Go to the polls!”.
It’s like they saw Hillary’s campaign and said “You know i think that is a good strategy, just needs better execution”.
I’ll be sure to ask my 12-year-old daughter if she put up her Biden/Harris sign.
Fact Check – it was actually a Kanye 2020 sign.
There is exactly one Biden sign in my neighborhood, which reads: “Biden 2020: He won’t inject you with bleach”
Car in the driveway has out-of-state plates, too.
*grumbles incoherently*
The Trump “inflames tensions and encourages looting” angle is way too obviously projecting that even the leftie voters see it, can’t they?
“We aren’t safe in Trumps America” is thinly veiled extortion: vote for a Dem sweep, or brace yourself for 4 more years of mob BLM/antifa/Occupy thuggery, and throw in more punitive COVID measures to boot.
Elect Joe on the other hand, and the tides of violence shall recede. Many COVID policies will remain of course; its such a great way for the government to get up in your grill and control you “for safety.”
Probably, but they’ll go with it.
I am happy for members of the Work at Home crowd Who actually enjoy it and are productive.
I cannot wait for return to normal. My team designs and build hardware. The creative energy of working in the same room and bouncing ideas off each other cannot be “phoned in.”
So good for WFH, but please don’t pretend that one size fits all.
Zoom and email are adequate for a lot of routine things, but there is no substitute for an unhindered face-to-face meeting. And by unhindered, I mean no mask/social distancing BS. We recently had a day long retreat, and it was not the same with the masks and distancing. They detach people, distance them, and degrade the discussion.
I mean, sometimes you got to do the “wall-to-wall” counseling.
I’ve still got a copy of that FM somewhere. Probably in my shit I don’t want to want to put on again box.
