Happy Friday, everybody. This is my last set of links as the main afternoon linker for a while. Others among TPTB are going to take over for a while, as I find myself beset by professional and family obligations more and more. I’ll still be around, and will pinch hit fairly often, just stepping back from being “the afternoon links guy”. I’ve had a great time doing these links, but I look forward to be a Glibertarian minister without portfolio for a while, too. And I’m not crying, you’re crying!
Biden has the class to wish Trump a speedy recovery. I’m honestly surprised that happens in today’s climate.
Using minors to steal yard signs is not cool, but I think tossing two seatbelt violations in on top is a little much.
What the fuck, NYC?
This is cool, although I wonder how scalable this is. Note the important caveat: “at room temperature”. I’d have to think that a sizeable version would have a significant cooling effect on the surroundings. Still, there are plenty of applications where there’s more than enough thermal energy to help this along. Its not often that you hear of Richard Feynman being wrong about something to do with physics.
Before the cosmos, before the oceans, before Adam or Eve, I truly believe that God conceived of me. The FIrst Firster.
Also God, “The last shall be first, and the first last.”
Boo-yah!!
Nice scripture jujitsu!
We hold you in our thoughts and wish for a speed recovery.
I like to call it The Firstening.
Yeah, but more like Highlander II
So… Brochettaward doesn’t exist?

RE: COORDINATED STRIKE AGAINST TRUMP BASE
Internal polling suggests a weakening in the ties between Trump and his Christian supporters since the debate.
Ever since some rogue detachments made a mess of the Barrett Catholicism thing, we’ve been looking for an opportunity to get those Sky Daddy worshipping morons to desert the Orange Menace. Our opportunity has arrived. Do all you can to drive a wedge between Trump and Christians.
END.
….
*in unison* Yes Xir!
Melania’s personal war on Christmas.
What Trump really thinks of his Christian supporters.
“Who Gives a Fuck About the Christmas Stuff”
Sweet Jesus, I think I’m in love.
I thought it was well known that Melania didn’t want Trump to run and didn’t want to be First Lady. I’ll say, for someone who really didn’t want the job (as evidenced by the tape), she’s stepping up magnificently.
For a Slavic ice queen supermodel billionaire’s trophy wife she seems alright. Yeah, she’s done just fine considering.
She certainly has more class than the previous FLOTUS.
^^^
So right. She did not want the position. She has been classy since getting this unwanted role.
A few years ago I would have said you are being ridiculous. Now it’s accepted wisdom.
I can tell that’s fake because of the lack of emojis.
And the dipshits are too unaware to realize that bitching about Christmas materialism and secular expressions doesn’t really mean squat to those who feel there’s a war on religious Christmas. If anything, they would probably agree.
Exactly. They have no understanding of their intended audience.
They would have been much smarter to spin this as, “Melania rails against traditional domestic roles,” which is actually what I think she was complaining about (at least in part).
Yep. and even that is weak. Anybody with even the slightest knowledge knows that FLOTUS is as much a job role as POTUS. Besides, it’s clear from the context that she’s bitching about the fact that the media was actively blocking her attempts to publicize her work on reuniting immigrant families.
“Using minors to steal yard signs is not cool, but I think tossing two seatbelt violations in on top is a little much.”
If I steal a few yard signs Trump will lose the election due to lack of name recognition!
The picture was just about what I expected…
Needs moar bright hair.
Here’s another great sign-stealer picture for you…
https://kdvr.com/news/local/woman-issued-summons-for-criminal-mischief-trespassing-for-vandalizing-campaign-signs-in-jeffco/
I want to agree, but the bad part of me laughed. Something tells me that’s an LEO that will be voting for Orange Man Bad.
If I steal a few yard signs Trump will lose the election due to lack of name recognition!
What’s funny is, at least in the area my parents live, the yard signs are acquired by a $20 donation to the Republican party, and the type of person who puts out a Trump sign is generally the type of person who will put up another one if it gets stolen, so each theft guarantees more money to the Republican party. My mother, who retired from being a teacher last year, decided to use some of her free time this year to volunteer at the local Republican office, and has been dismayed by how many people have had to come in to get replacement signs. I’m thinking that the local party bosses view it as a mixed blessing.
Did Moranis say he was sore-y?
?
The “I❤️NY” sweatshirt was nice touch.
Shouldn’t have taken that helmet off.
Mike Lee got the ‘rona.
“Unlike the test I took just a few days ago while visiting the White House, yesterday’s test came back positive. On advice of the Senate attending physician, I will remain isolated for the next 10 days,” he said.
Lee, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he spoke to both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as well as Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and “assured them I will be back to work in time to join my Judiciary Committee colleagues in advancing the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett in the Committee and then to the full Senate”
Related.
In a joint statement Friday morning, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-CA) and Feinstein called on Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) to delay the hearing, in parGraham because of President Donald Trump’s recent positive coronavirus test.
“It is premature for Chairman Graham to commit to a hearing schedule when we do not know the full extent of potential exposure stemming from the president’s infection and before the White House puts in place a contact tracing plan to prevent further spread of the disease,” said the Democratic duo.
Furthermore, Schumer and Feinstein said it would be inappropriate to hold hearings for a lifetime appointment virtually. They also pointed to Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), who is also on the judiciary committee, testing positive as a reason to delay the hearings.
Wear the mask. It’s supposed to protect others from symptomatic people, right? RIGHT???
The ADA might have something to say about not making reasonable accommodations, such as attending the hearings virtually.
Like a lot of other laws they write for us, the ADA might not apply to Congress.
New conspiracy theory:
The Deep State is rigging the ‘ronatests in order to make republicans results come back positive, thus stopping the confirmation process. After the election, this same technique will be used to reduce the number of republicans in the senate so that dems outnumber them and can pass whatever legislation they want to.
Fuck, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dems sent Covid Mary into the Oval Office last week to cough on Donald a few times.
Furthermore, Schumer and Feinstein said it would be inappropriate to hold hearings for a lifetime appointment virtually.
They had James Comey testify virtually…two days ago?
Pshaw. That was just about using lies and recklessness to unseat an elected president. This is important!
That was different…because…reasons.
The real worry about virtual hearings is that if it works out, people might not see the need to send their representatives to DC and might prefer to keep them at home. And if that happens, the representatives might be more worried about the concerns of their constituents and less worried about the concerns of their colleagues. It could upend the whole system!
Honestly, the seatbelt vios are the icing on the cake,
I want to publicly thank Brett for the fabulous job he’s done with Afternoon Links since we launched. It isn’t easy having a daily posting obligation while trying to maintain an actual Florida Man life. Brett has created 626 posts (to date) for the community.
THANK YOU! ?
Agree
Bretl, hope you find a minute here & there to Zoom in on us,
Hear! Hear!
Huzzah!
+1 Sincerely to everyone who contributes.
And more tongue in cheek let me introduce everyone to the word gomasuri.
Best part is this being Japanese and all there is a character for gomasuri that I just learned about minutes ago while searching for an English explaination.
Thanks Brett L!
Yes Brett. Go forth, prosper, and may death come swiftly to your rival drug lords.
Wow! I had no idea. Thanks for all you have done Brett.
*gift wraps an alligator and [insert relevant unit] of meth to send to Brett*
Yup, thanks to all the contributors. I barely have time to post, I have no idea how Brett and the rest of the crew fit this into their busy schedules.
Thanks, Brett. That’s a whole lot of good linking.
Good luck with the upcoming challenges.
Thank you Brett L! Go forth and do whatever Brett does.
Indeed, thank you, Brett, for your labors.
+1
I don’t know how you do it with the kids running around you in circles screaming, but thank you for your dedication!
Brett = rock star.
Thank you sir!
It’s great to know I billed at least 21hours doing this gig. I’ll be back. But definitely not in SP’s role as Glib-wrangler. I don’t have “the look” or the rusty tin can lid collection. Thanks for the love y’all.
You’re the best, Brett, when the lynx were on time.
But did you actually do 21 hours of work? :-p
+1

Respam from H & H (I promise, only one or two more):
Alright Glib gunners:
I have a 9 MOA dual-illuminated Trijicon RMR (amber dot) that I want to unload. I got it for a handgun, but I think I want a bigger dot for a handgun. I got one just like it for the Shotgun of Doom, and I think for long guns it is a very good choice. If you’re looking to upgrade your AR or combat shotgun, this would be one to take a hard look at. It would be an excellent sight for turkey hunting or hunting deer, hogs, bear, whatever with a slug barrel on your shotgun.
The dual-illuminated is my preference because it has no batteries, but is lit by fiber optics and tritium. Works in bright sunlight (even AZ sunlight) and complete darkness. Its brand new, never mounted, but I’ll give a discount off what I paid (I’ll have to check, but it wasn’t list).
Lemme know if you’re interested.
Let me know what you want for it and the picatinny adapter.
n7vdkvn7xd8r@beconfidential.com
Blocked at work. I’ll email you from home. I don’t have the picatinny adapter for this one (I have one, but its on the shotgun). OpticPlanet has them in stock, though.
My rail will accept weaver as well if you have that.
I just have the picatinny mount in use on the shotgun, and the GI notch mount to be put on the handgun this weekend (probably).
“My rail will accept weaver as well if you have that.”
wink. wink. nudge. nudge. know what I mean?
if it doesn’t work out with Scruffy, let me know
5v8tz4onh9so@opayq.com
Will do.
Thank you for your service to the Glibertariat Brett L.
So… it shouldn’t be a gold watch.
Can you make a watch out of meth and liquor?
I mean, libertarians, right? Some combination of gold, yayo, liquor, ammo, and Astro-Glide…
Anytime I read “gold watch”, all I can think of is this.
Then my work here is done.
Without Walken, Tarantino would have gone nowhere.
Thank you Brett!
It’s been a pleasure. Thanks.
Fuck you Brett. Just when I think I can trust someone again, you abandon me.
*runs off crying*
I’m doing low carb and intermittent fasting, so for lunch I made scrambled eggs.
Way too many. I hate cold eggs.
My son learned how to make scrambled eggs. Every damn day for lunch he makes scrambled eggs. Weirdo.
Way too many. I hate cold eggs.
Do you also hate microwaved eggs? It’s admittedly not as good as fresh-made, but better than cold.
Brett L, your efforts appreciated. Donation not taxation.
It is so good you sign off on your posts, because I never know who is actually saying anything except for you.
Ownbestenemy, you are welcome. Donation not taxation.
Sure, you can go to the playground, but…
1. Face masks over the mouth and nose are required for everyone 2 years of age or older with caregiver supervision at all times to ensure face mask use.
2. Do not use the playground when different households are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or when the capacity limit has been reached.
3. Caregivers must monitor to keep adults and children from different households at least 6 feet apart.
4. Consider coming on different times or days to avoid wait times and potential crowded times.
5. No eating or drinking in playground, to ensure face masks are worn at all times.
6. Wash or sanitize hands before and after using the playground.
7. Elderly and persons with underlying medical conditions should avoid playground when others are present.
8. Limit visit to 30 min per day when others are present
Not everyone in California complies.
Inside a California Covid Revolt
Residents of Shasta County have taken resistance to Covid-19 restrictions to another level: “full-on anarchy.”
From the article: “But that is about to change: Shasta County’s Covid numbers are now spiking. “In a week we’ll have gone from two a day to 100 a day,” said Pontes.”
I just checked the data for Shasta county. They are running about 25 cases per day. Back in July they were running about 10 cases per day. Some spike.
Science! and the MSM just love how they got away from detaching this virus from all knowledge and understanding to make such claims as above. It is here, in the wild, and humans can catch it. However, even with all the data out, people are still operating on the March/April time-frame of “if you get it, you will die!” mindset.
At least #6 and #7 of their list is the sensible suggestion.
If we, as a country, had just done some variant of #7 across the board, and nothing else, I suspect we’d be no worse off than we are now.
Cases – who cares?
Hospitalizations? Deaths?
Social engineers only care about cases because they know its here to stay and eventually will become seasonal to some extent which means it will never be zero. Which allows them to put out ridiculous edicts like above and run scary news headlines forever.
By the way, what is the hospitalization and death count from Sturgis? After the 1 death and the crazy study linking to someone’s fantasy, it seems they don’t want to talk about it.
Currently hospitalized? That’s even better. 11.
Wah wah. Overpaid parasite thinks he runs the county for his and his employees’ benefit, not that they’re the hired help and can be fired at any time. The condescension and entitlement of someone who has ripped off taxpayers for his entire life is dripping from the article.
Oh really? Not one county has ever missed a meeting in 150 years until now? I’m skeptical.
Even the Tuesdays that were Christmas or other holidays?
9/11 was a Tuesday, too.
That warms my black, black heart a bit.
Three of those items are shit that she should have done herself long before this.
So…just stay home. Mission Accomplished!
Biden has the class to wish Trump a speedy recovery. – Why wouldn’t he? It’s not like he doesn’t have enough people saying it serves Trump right for saying that attacking him, Trump, for a poor response to the corona virus was a Democratic hoax. I mean for saying that the corona virus was a hoax.
Well trump has been insinuating that Biden is mentally deficient for the last 6 months.
True, so credit where credit is due. And given how graciously Trump reacted to Ginsburg’s death, I think he’d probably return the favor to Joe. So there’s at least a silver lining: our politics could be worse, the two assholes vying for the presidency at least each have a shred of human decency.
It was a nice thing for his handlers to write.
As is the tradition in these never ending times. I’ve set up a Zoom/Happy Hour/blah blah blah for people to commiserate, bitch, and moan. I’ll kick it off at 20:00 Eastern, and I can guarantee that Brochettaward will not be first (thanks waiting rooms).

Remember when the Oval Office was staffed by responsible, classy people?
A staff member to former President Barack Obama deleted a tweet on Friday, suggesting that she hopes President Donald Trump dies after he announced that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Zara Rahim, who worked in the Office of Digital Strategy for Obama, as well as serving as the national spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, deleted her tweet shortly after being published, but it was seen by a number of people across social media, who shared screenshots of it.
“It’s been against my moral identity to tweet this for the past four years, but, I hope he dies,” Rahim wrote in the since-deleted tweet
Rahim’s tweet came shortly after Trump announced that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
I hope you wind up working the night shift at a 7eleven in Detroit, lady.
So… promoted to Biden’s Office of Digital Strategy? Just wait for this theme music.
Paging Tara Reade.
zing!
Someone forgot to tell Rahim that the Internet is forever. Tweet non delenda est.
How would a communications strategist and spokeswoman know something like that?
Thing is they know they have cover to say it without consequence at all.
There’s that tricky little word.
A quick googling reveals that she appears to be your typical self-obsessed millennial female who worked for Clinton and Vogue. Probably from a higher Indian caste.
“Suggesting.”
LOL
Remember when the Oval Office was staffed by responsible, classy people?
No; that was before my time.
They’re talking about an Aaron Sorkin show.
It’s been against my moral identity to tweet this for the past four years, but, I hope he dies
What an odd statement.
“Against my moral identity”? What does that mean?
And why say its only tweeting it that is against her “moral identity”?
I can only believe she has no problem believing it, wanting it, all along. A good person might feel such an impulse, but would reject it, which she apparently never did. She seems to have had some sense that saying so publicly (“against my moral identity to tweet”) would be bad for her public image (is her public persona her “moral identity”? If so, that’s messed up), and that’s the only thing that held her back.
That’s exactly what held her back. I guarantee she’s professed that sentiment many times among close friends.
Such brave, to overcome her need to portray herself as moral to speak her own truth.
I love that there are so many people in the left who, though they ardently wish harm would come to others, refrain from saying so because it’s just not cricket.
My 86 year old mother in law has dementia and unfortunately lives in one of the NY state nursing homes that Cuomo filled with covid positive patients. A few months ago she tested positive for covid herself, then tested positive again a week later, but then has been negative ever since. Never had any symptoms. Like over 95% of people her age infected, she recovered completely. Trump is only 74 by comparison, and his age group has that much better survival rates. He has an excellent chance of getting through this just fine.

Spots still available if anyone wants to engage in some Florida gunplay.
Twenty-two stages, and I believe there may be a theme.
Oh, and for Yusef: notice how they made little dioramas of each stage.
Florida gunplay.
You people and your sexual slang.
I just can’t keep up.
What the fuck, NYC?
Let me fix that for you:
What the fuck? NYC.
(sadly)
Yeah, this shit happens every day. Just not often to someone we’ve heard of.
I was just saying that to my wife.
If this was you or me it just wouldn’t make The Post.
Anybody remember the Knockout Game?
That’s when the rest of the country got a little taste of NYC for awhile.
We called it the “one-punch challenge,” and it got a number of dumbasses sent to prison for decades because it often resulted in the death of the victim.
Is a false positive considered fake news?
What you did, I like.
I think Trump, would rather have it; free press, the whole cycle is about the WH COVID HOTSPOT! Might be hedging and its a good bet, that everyone in a week or two will be back to work and normal.
A false-positive would be spun that Trump has bumbled the testing even further by allowing bad tests out into the world.
This kind of commentary boggles my mind. It’s like they believe that thru omniscient benevolence, Obama could wave his magic pecker and create accurate tests.
The agencies absolutely botched testing early on. But the idea that they would have done any better under Obama is . . . speculative, at best. Their botching was the result of agency business as usual. Aside from spending money, the federal response has been about 99% suspending regulations.
It seems the agencies were suffering from the Not Invented Here Syndrome, which probably would have happened under Obama too.
It most assuredly would have. If anything, Obama would have been more reluctant to suspend regulations and take power away from the agencies.
Exactly
I was under the impression that he was getting tested twice a day. Which would mean he’s had about 400 tests. He’s getting the nasal swab which means it’s the RT-PCR test. The false positive rate on that is around 0.8%. So he would have to beat the odds NOT to have at least one positive from 400 of those tests.
Getting poked in the brain twice a day has got to be irritating.
I wonder how much damage the swabs have done in and of themselves.
Christ. So now the spin is Hope was the one who gave Trump the virus and the Trump campaign recklessly continued after her positive test, even though incubation periods can’t rule out it was from someone else.
I offer my services to take care of Hope until she recovers. And after she recovers.
Local Cleveland news had a story asking if Trump picked up the COVID here during the debates.
Local Cleveland news is really dumb.
Trump has bumbled the testing even further
Some people seem to think “test” = prevention.
Indirectly it can help with prevention. If you test positive you can self quarantine.
Bluecoller Joe is also a lab tech.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/president-trump-and-first-lady-melania-test-positive-for-the-coronavirus-11601639968
The president received one 8-gram dose of Regeneron’s polyclonal antibody cocktail, in addition to zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and a daily aspirin, White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said, adding Mr. Trump is “fatigued but in good spirits.”
Great. Now Pepcid is going to disappear from the shelves again.
They left out that drug which cannot be named that I guarandamntee you he’s taking. Y’all know what I’m talking about.
PCP?
I think that was Kennedy.
Disinfectant really isn’t a drug.
There better be some good memes with some Clorox or direct UV blood treatments or I will be sad. Maybe even a fishbowl.
I was really hoping to see the Drug That Shall Not Be Named on that list. The fact that he is taking zinc is a big tell, though.
Yup…
I can see the dilemma though –
If his doc says its not a good choice because of other factors it ‘proves’ the naysayers point without a sense of reasoning on the whole, up to the doctor thing that everyone has been saying in the first place.
If his doc says hell ya you should take it and does and comes out unscathed in the end, he could campaign on it but the media would just bury it with “Trump takes medicine that isn’t available to the average person” with no sense of irony to it.
At least the way I see it.
It actually is available for the average person as long as you’re willing to take it and if you have a douchebag doctor you can doctor shop. They might be keeping it hush hush to avoid controversy but I guarantee he’s taking it and if things go well that’ll come out.
Orphan blood?
“about $180,000 shot directly into the bloodstream” is the cure..or was that for AIDS?
Gin & Tonic?
There was a long thumbsucker I read a day or two ago, cataloguing the many and varied failures of President Cartoon Villain’s response. After each paragraph, I expected to see, “And then they all died.” But, strangely enough, that is not what happened. And again I ask, where are they hiding the corpses of the thousands upon thousands of maskless people who flew on commercial airliners in April and May and June?
Apparently, surviving the plague, even with no evident symptoms, is a fate worse than death.
I see dead people. Walking around like regular people. They don’t know they’re dead.
Those are called leftists. They are just braindead.
“Apparently, surviving the plague, even with no evident symptoms, is a fate worse than death.”
The shutdowners are trying to make survival pretty damn miserable, anyway.
A couple of weeks back I heard an interview with someone from a group calling themselves the Survivor Corps. She claimed people were getting lupus and other such things as a result of getting the coronavirus. It would have been hilariously unhinged if it weren’t for the fact the interviewer was taking it seriously because we must keep the people in a state of panic.
It’s never Lupus.
I wanted to give my thanks to Brett and all the Powers That Be for all their time and effort. You guys and xe are doing Smods work.
Don’t thank Brett. Thank the many folks who drag him out of the gutter every afternoon, wipe the crust out of his eyes, hose the smell down to bearable levels, put a keyboard in front of him, and then try to decipher his third-grade-education-plus-Florida-Man spelling. These are the true heroes.

Moore’s a leftist who’d be happy to put a bullet into his mother’s head if it’d bring about his glorious revolution. This is to be expected from that disgusting bag of lard.
He would happily put a bullet in his mother to make a buck.
Honestly, I thought that was funny.
That’s one of those thoughts you should chuckle to yourself about, not post it out there in the public space.
Well, I didn’t say it was tasteful.
Yeah, the left should keep on rooting for the Commie Cough to kill people they don’t like. That’s totally gonna win over voters in swing state to their side.
On a side note, it’s possible I have a mild case of C19 since I took a plane flight to Ohio, but it could just be a minor cold or flu. Note taking any test, regardless, since that might result in some asshat ordering me into house arrest for a couple of weeks – which I would not comply with.
I pointed out the perverse incentive to some our docs. They were all “yeah, no kidding”. I got the distinct impression they wouldn’t get a ‘Vid test unless they were really sick and thought they might need ‘Vid-specific treatment.

Trump will do it from his hospital bed if he has to.
Wouldn’t the next debate be happening within the standard two-week quarantine period? I don’t see that mentioned. Or is there some sort of “you’re now no longer contagious, feel free to roam” hall pass?
So..fedgov here. If one of us gets a positive, its a 10-day self isolation period from the point of test. Any contact with others less than 6 feet for 15-30 minutes (don’t know, don’t ask) we are to self-isolate for 14-days from point of positive confirmation.
Didn’t Ted Cruz already have the coronavirus?
One of the news outlets was hyperventilating that he might get it because he was at the ceremony for Amy Coney Barrett last Saturday.
Rand Paul had it, don’t know about Cruz.
He self-quarantined due to exposure but I don’t think he actually had it:

Is there a charge for unintentional masturbation?
Who among us . . . .
But, yeah, unintentional anything shouldn’t be a crime.
Careful with that wording.
I’m just fine with manslaughter remaining a crime even if the intent to kill someone is missing.
Jones, cops say, was observed by the child’s uncle, who “video recorded the incident which was shown to law enforcement.”
I’ll bet he did.

That looks like a huge rack for a ballerina.
Seriously – straight male dancers at the NYC ballet?
This certainly wasn’t the case from some of the retired dancers I used to know from there.
Yes. They exist. And they live like Kings.
LOL. My acquaintances actually said the same.
And don’t put it past the gay dancers to mock the girls for fun. It’s a ruthless environment.

I’m going to need to review the evidence first before I draw a conclusion in this case.

AHAHAHAHA! I feel better when I scrounge mine from off the floorboard of my car now.
I keep a dirty wadded up one in my pocket in case some store employee insists I wear one, and I don’t feel like walking out.
The tone of these requests seems to have turned much more deferential lately. The check out person at Lowe’s yesterday:
“I’m sorry, sir, I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m required to remind you that you’re supposed to wear a mask.”
I was thinking, or what? Are you going to make me leave the store because I’m not wearing a mask? With the stuff I’ve already paid for?
I nodded back, smiling politely, waited a couple of seconds for him to hand me the receipt, and walked out with my purchases, still maskless. You want me to wear one, you better be a store employee, not a customer, and ask before I’ve already paid for my stuff, and you better make it an unambiguous order, not a polite suggestion.
Having worked in an amusement park in my younger years, I don’t give the employees any problems. They’re dealing with that crap day in and day out.
If I have an issue, I’ll talk to the manager.
Call me Karen.
Same. I worked in a grocery store. Last thing I do in a retail store is hassle a cashier for an issue unrelated to paying for something.
Anyone want to point out what’s wrong in the video? Anyone? Bueller?
Where da

So many masks, so few worn.

There’s no cognitive dissonance there. Well played.
My bullshit detector went off reading the graphene article. I’m still siding with Feynman and would be a beer there is an instrumentation error.
“be a beer”, bet a beer, whatever.
I’m with SandMan on this one. CONSENSUS!
And there’s nothing wrong with being a beer. Be the best beer you can be!
I’m wondering what the effect on removing the energy of the Brownian motion from the environment would be.
The whole thing sounds as daft as John Galt’s invention that turned static electricity into usable power.
Good for you, Brett!
Some exciting times ahead for you. My sincere thanks for all the content you’ve provided.
I wish you and the family all the best!

Haha.
Trump to Walter Reed.
He has a fever.
Yikes!
2020 is not relenting.
When does the country begin to worry?
I’m personally going to go with, ‘Never.’
Except that I work right down the street from Walter Reed. Traffic is going to be epic fuckery.
You’re screwed.
Although he may be there a week or so maybe a bit of break while he isn’t going anywhere.
Shouldn’t you be riding the metro?
Also rode the metro
Another late Friday afternoon news dump.
Him having a fever isn’t that concerning. Is it 99.5 or is it 104? They’re going to be ultra cautious with him.

LOL. Everybody I think.
Somehow it will be John Bolton.

Oskar Speck (1907–1995) was a German canoeist who paddled by folding kayak from Germany to Australia over the period 1932–1939. A Hamburg electrical contractor made unemployed during the Weimar-period Depression, he left Germany to seek work in the Cypriot copper mines, departing from Ulm and travelling south via the Danube. En route, he changed plan and decided to “see the world”, continuing to Australia via the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia. On his arrival in Australia, shortly after the start of World War II, Speck was interned as an enemy foreigner. He remained in prisoner-of-war camps for the duration of the war. On release, Speck worked as an opal cutter at Lightning Ridge, before moving to Sydney and establishing a successful career as an opal merchant.[1][2] In later life he lived with his partner, Nancy Steel, in Killcare, New South Wales.[3]

I like his route and method. Seems easier, cheaper, and safer than my idea of building a boat a sailing around the world. And more interesting sights along the way too.

I’ve been reading the John Carter of Mars books. I can see why they were popular and inspired similar works. It does stretch the limits of credibility for swords to be the preferred weapon when they have guns, which also are the weapons that would negate Carter’s advantages.
You’ve the probably seen the famous pic of the slave with the very scarred back. Here’s the rest of that story:
***
Gordon, or “Whipped Peter” (fl. 1863), was an enslaved African American who escaped from a Louisiana plantation in March 1863, gaining freedom when he reached the Union camp near Baton Rouge. He became known as the subject of photographs documenting the extensive scarring of his back from whippings received in slavery. Abolitionists distributed these carte de visite photographs of Gordon throughout the United States and internationally to show the abuses of slavery.[2]
In July 1863 these images appeared in an article about Gordon published in Harper’s Weekly, the most widely read journal during the Civil War.[3] The pictures of Gordon’s scourged back provided Northerners with visual evidence of brutal treatment of enslaved people and inspired many free blacks to enlist in the Union Army.[4] Gordon joined the United States Colored Troops soon after their founding, and served as a soldier in the war.[5]
…
Gordon escaped in March 1863 from the 3,000-acre (12 km2) plantation of John and Bridget Lyons, who held him and nearly 40 other people in slavery at the time of the 1860 census.[1][6] The Lyons plantation was located along the west bank of the Atchafalaya River in St. Landry Parish, between present-day Melville and Krotz Springs, Louisiana.[7]
To mask his scent from the bloodhounds that were chasing him, Gordon took onions from his plantation, which he carried in his pockets. After crossing each creek or swamp, he rubbed his body with the onions to throw the dogs off his scent. He fled over 40 miles (64 km)[8] over the course of 10 days before reaching Union soldiers of the XIX Corps who were stationed in Baton Rouge.[
…
Gordon joined the Union Army as a guide three months after the Emancipation Proclamation allowed for the enrollment of freed slaves into the military forces. On one expedition, he was taken prisoner by the Confederates; they tied him up, beat him, and left him for dead. He survived and once more escaped to Union lines.[9]
Gordon soon afterwards enlisted in a U.S. Colored Troops Civil War unit. He was said[by whom?] to have fought bravely as a sergeant in the Corps d’Afrique during the Siege of Port Hudson in May 1863.[12] It was the first time that African-American soldiers played a leading role in an assault.[10]
The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief James Bennet in 2011 noted, “Part of the incredible power of this image I think is the dignity of that man. He’s posing. His expression is almost indifferent. I just find that remarkable. He’s basically saying, ‘This is a fact.'”[13]

Good luck. Hope everything turns out ok.
The ID Channel is like crack to some of us…
So today I had my first in person meeting for work since we went work from home when the virus started going around. I’m not in a position where I attend meetings very often, so they’ve been doing in person meetings for a while before this. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience: no one was wearing masks, so I took mine off when I got there, and the only social distancing was keeping an empty seat between everyone, which is what I like anyway, but people shook hands and stood around talking during breaks like it was normal times. It was a 6 hour meeting, so I was not looking forward to it, but having a “normal” experience was a nice change of pace. It also didn’t hurt that they provided a good lunch (BBQ) and many of the attendees had a good sense of humor, keeping things from dragging too much. Also, while I work for a podunk little company, the company hosting the meeting (who we sub for) is a Fortune 500 company, and there were several project managers present, so I get the sense that the company is cool with not being in panic mode, which is reassuring. But work from home is still permitted, so I’ll probably keep doing that, because it’s chill.
?
Good to hear
My new shop is the sme way, signs at the door, no masks inside, I like it,
Nice.
My company is only accepting volunteers to work in the office and it’s full theater when they get there. Pass.
Pass.
Sounds like the right call.
What sort of monster schedules 6 hour meetings? What sort of output comes from that?
hemorrhoids
People selling time shares?
Sadly, as much as I hate meetings (more than 30 min is too long IMO) these sort of marathon meetings are inevitable on occasion in my line of work. It was a design review meeting for a portion of a massive construction project that is being bid on, and there was a reasonable amount of productivity that came out of it, including revising some design ideas and raising issues with the people who can actually make decisions to hopefully resolve some conflicts between different disciplines on the project, potentially saving millions of dollars. Could the same amount of productivity been achieved with fewer people involved and less time? Yes, but not by too much, and in any event the management track people like having these types of meetings to get everyone on the same page at crucial junctures in a project, so it is what is is. I get to look forward to two more six hour meetings next week to finish up the review process, so you know I’m planning on just vegging out this weekend to mentally compensate for all that.
“It was a 6 hour meeting…”
WTF? How is that productive AT ALL?
I just replied to a similar question by slumbrew above, so see above if you are curious.
Sister said I needed an oh shit bag in case I get stuck, I ended up with a disater bag, a winter kit, a Lifestraw, towstrap, and all my tools, plenty of layets ad well, did I do it right Northland Glibs?
Snow tires, tow strap, maybe tire chains, a snow shovel, winter ghillie suit, some treats to ward of Steve Smith…

Well somewhat good news from the Michigan Supreme Court. They struck down Whitmer’s authority to extend her various lockdown orders issued under 2 ’emergency powers’ acts. Unfortunately, their judgement doesn’t take effect for 21 days, and the Department of Health and Human Services does have the “right” to issue the same orders.
Her outrage is palpable, though, which is always fun.
What’s this 21 days nonsense. It should take effect retroactive to the point at which the state of emergency lapsed.
It is literally nonsense, based on nothing, but it does prove that she/they recognize no source of or limits on their power, they think that because they won an election once they can do whatever pops into their head. Ridiculous.

Research Director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy and adjunct lecturer at Harvard Kennedy School Joan Donovan published an op-Ed in the MIT Technology Review titled “How an overload of riot porn is driving conflict in the streets.”
In the piece, Donovan blames left-wing riots in America on “right-wing media makers” and “ring-wing reactionaries.”
She claims that the videos of the riots, as she terms “riot porn,” are “fed into a media ecosystem with an established bias toward highlighting violence and rioting, the videos have mobilized white militia and vigilante groups to take up arms against Black Lives Matter and ‘antifa’ protesters.”
“This feedback circuit has created a self-fulfilling cycle where white vigilantes feel justified in menacing and physically attacking racial justice protesters—and inspire others to do the same,” Donovan states.
…
“As a scholar of social movements and media studies, I see an alarming split between the types of content consumed by right-wing reactionaries and left-wing social justice advocates,” Donovan states. Donovan describes Kyle Rittenhouse as a “lone vigilante” who acted as a “direct consequence of white militia groups’ organizing on social media.”
She called on Facebook to take action by limiting “the spread of propaganda about Rittenhouse by blocking searches on his name.”
…
According to Donovan, “right-wing media” pages on social media “convert the real pain experienced by Black Americans into fodder for deranged, paranoid fantasies that white vigilantes must take up the functions of the police.”
“If social media companies do not act swiftly to stop calls for violence against protesters, the situation can only get worse,” Donovan stated.
“Social-media companies need to work actively to prevent militias and vigilante groups from staging these armed standoffs. This includes shutting down event pages that are used as central organizing hubs and removing the accounts of those who are calling for physical violence,” she concluded.

Simply put, they don’t want to have to debate so they’re going to limit the availability of opposing arguments. It’s the Soviet Union all over again.
Censorship is always the way with these types.
random thought – why do different kinds of jerky contain different amounts of iron? They all cost about the same. Maybe they use different cuts of meet? One would think the iron content would be tied to how much blood was left in the meat before the curing began. Also it seems that biltong is better than jerky- less sugar and preservatives. Jerky tastes better though.
Different cuts of meat, different methods, and random variation. They’re all probably the same more or less.
beset by professional and family obligations>
That’s a beautiful way of saying you need to be scarce because of mounting cocaine debts and a very aggressive dealer making collections. Fare thee well!
This is why you don’t snort your own stash
I assumed “professional and family obligations” meant he’ll be in prison for several months since they finally convicted him for masturbating in the 7-11 parking lot.
That was just a clever ploy to get away from his dealer
Hi, Jesse!
Nice to see you.
Good to see you too!
Debts? I categorically deny any such accusations. I paid with the oldest trade!
Oh Brett, how I’ve missed your heteroflexibility
Fucking a. Can hear shots being fired and can’t get through roadblock. Deputy says I don’t want to be up there. Fuck you, my wife is there.

Are you still on the phone with her?
Damn. Hope all is well too.

No reason you have to drive in to the neighborhood.
Just watched this week’s installment of the boys. What a great ending.
