WDBH: The Doom Post

by | Mar 31, 2021 | WebDom’s Browser History | 177 comments

Vegan Twitter is going insane(r).

The pillow I shared recently (2 weeks ago maybe?) of our One True God has made it into a Tweet round up of stuff that should not exist.

Unsplash, the free service from which many of our photos are pulled, is being acquired by Getty Images. It’s unclear if things will change. They say Unsplash will remain free, but time will tell.

CDC director was manipulating the public with her comments about impending doom. And it worked. “Impending Doom” was trending.

China is really shitty at soccer. Like…really shitty.

Incredible photos of the 1906 earthquake that shook the Bay Area.

An amazing library in Kashmir is owned by a book lover who can’t read.

Iran is home to some scary animals.

If I were a groundskeeper at the Lincoln Memorial, this totally would’ve been my hangout.

The Telegraph’s article, How defunding the police in Minneapolis has backfired, has lead to some pretty annoyed tweeters letting the Telegraph have it. Not sure how true any of this material in the article is, but Twitter seems to think it’s a load of shit.

The problem with average app ratings.

In an article about how masks became political, here is perhaps the best sentence I read this week, “an anthropologist who moonlights as a plague doctor.”

The Louvre made its entire 482,000 item collection available online. They’re still adding items, but you can access over 2/3 of the collection here.

And speaking of institutions doing cool things, UCLA has released the largest digital archive of medicinal folklore in the world.

I have some health issues, and one of them is made significantly worse by chronic inflammation, so I’ve been eyeing this cookbook about how to use food to reduce inflammation. If I get it, I’ll report back next week.

Curious what this peeping tom child has seen.

Sometimes, late at night, when I need a bath or a shit, I too like to watch X-Files.

Lots o books

I’m gonna marry this woman some day.

The only thing I know about Chinese soccer is that the teams have lately been snapping up European and South American 2nd tier stars left and right, who are just there to collect a spectacular paycheck for a couple years before their vision clears and they get the hell out. The same phenomenon is occurring in the Middle Eastern petro-states.

  7. westernsloper

The only thing good about NPR is the undiscovered music they deliver. (the cynic and non spanish speaking in me wonders if she is singing of communism because I don’t trust them) I first learned about the Black Keys back in the day before they made it through NPR. 1998? I’ve always been a big conspiracy theory fan, I didn’t believe most of them but I found some intriguing and some I do believe in. Man it is ridiculous nowadays every conspiracy site is now the vaccine is going to kill you or pedos run the world. Give me the old-fashioned UFO conspiracies or even one world order. Now its all Tom Hanks and Oprah eating kids.

The Covid vaccine is going to kill everyone who gets it (on purpose) theory is especially annoying. I get being skeptical at a vaccine that was rushed to market and all of that. But if the covid vaccine is designed to kill everyone who takes it so the elite can take over or whatever there is a major logical inconsistency. Why would the elite kill all of the “sheeple” who get the vaccine so they are just left with the rebellious anti vaxers. Seems like they would rather kill everyone who doesn’t get it, according to this theories logic so that they could get rid of the troublemakers. None of these conspiracy theorists want to engage the argument they immediately begin ad hominem attacks.

    • blackjack

I don’t like to take drugs that I don’t need. Pretty sure anyone claiming that the vaccine will kill everybody is false flagging. Not saying it won’t, just that speculating that it will is only useful to one side in this debate.

      • Rothbardsbitch

Yeah I agree too your first statement. I took the the second dose of the vax on Monday and I am still sick as a dog, never had that from a vax. But at the same time I don’t think it’s a false flag I think the conspiracy theory movement has been taken over by genuine schizos. I don’t think it’s a false flag.

    • PudPaisley

Me too. I miss Art Bell. He could spot a fake abduction story from a real one better than anyone, and he’d call out the fakers.

I used to also like Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis, but haven’t listened in a couple years. His show just requires too much time before he gets to his main points.

    • Gustave Lytton

That’s the latest conspiracy spin. Super Covid is coming.

      • commodious spittoon

Yeah, but that’s the theory Fauci, the Biden admin, and the mainstream media are pushing.

We’ll never be free and clear of Covid, there will always be some new strain taking root in Ethiopia or Venezuela or Minneapolis, always some new variant or worrisome probabilistic projection based on models vetted by experts and it’s just about to decimate Texas and Florida, any day now…

      • Rothbardsbitch

Yeah to be clear I am totally against vaccine passports, mandatory vaccinations, lockdowns and all of that shit. I am neither a covid denier or covid extremists and I make that clear to these conspiracy theorists. But they just can’t comprehend it either you buy into everything or you are a patsy. I hate this modern attitude of black and white buy into everything or you are a traitor to whatever cause. But then again as libertarians, I guess we should be used to it.

      • commodious spittoon

I am officially a Covid denier. This thing would not have killed any more than is now being ascribed it, pari passu. Under Obama it’d be a blip, as it had been a blip during his administration. Under Trump, it was the one chink in his armor, the one way that leftists could inveigle voters to cast off their liberties and their prosperity.

Not that they needed much persuasion, but they still needed a believable pretext. The Covid hoax gave them that. This was a hysterical moral panic, and we’ll be generations clawing our way out from under it, god damn it.

      • Rothbardsbitch

I don’t disagree that this was made into a big hubaloo in order to get rid of Trump. If Obama was President this would have been swept under the rug and Fox News would have been the only ones making it into a big deal using immigration as the big boogey man. Not that I am a fan of unlimited immigration, I think its the biggest weakness of the libertarian philosophy.

      • Gustave Lytton

Only if it wasn’t Obama in 2020. Social media and the ability for large swathes of the ones who count being able to work (or “work”) from home enabled this to continue at the level it has. That wouldn’t have been nearly as possible in 2010.

But I had three cats that were probably murdered by a federal agent’s wife that lived next door cops wouldn’t do anything because it was a federal agent. Not 100% sure it was that person myself. But evidence points to it. I take the safety of any people or animals under my responsibility very seriously maybe it’s because I was abused as a kid and this is a huge failure on my part. I always feel like I should have done more. This happened a few years ago but recent events reminded me of it.

I used to live in a rural area and then all of these developers turned it into a suburb and my indoor/outdoor cats were killed, by one of my new neighbors.

I used to live next to a ranch and now it’s turned into shit show suburban mcmansion bullshit of Californians. I live in Texas. All of which are all super liberals but one, in particular, didn’t like cats playing in their pond.

I dig it, loud and absurd is a guilty pleasure of mine.

The Snyder Cut was pretty good, despite a healthy dose of ol’ Zach’s cinematic onanism.

GoT, the first season just barely kept my interest enough to make me want to check out season two. It ramped up a bit as the series progressed. However, it was more than a little irritating when it became clear that there were a host of interesting plot lines that ended up being farts in the wind.

      • Rothbardsbitch

Both Monsters have killed more people than 9/11 times 1000. Both should die. King Kong is a little less guilty. He would have stayed on his island if it wasn’t for humans but Godzilla might be rivaling Hitler at this point. Still has nothing on Stalin or Mao though.

      • OBJ FRANKELSON

I think that those movies appeal to the side of me that used to built lego sets solely to smash them. I find it ruins the fun to think too hard about second and third-order effects.

OT – Mrs. Animal and I just completed our five-day odyssey from Colorado to Alaska.

    Five days.

Three thousand, two hundred and eight miles door to door.

Two countries. Three states, two provinces, one territory.

Fine weather and foul – we got snowed on several times, several times were crawling on ice-covered roads with snow blasting at us, twice in the Canadian Rockies we crept around crews cleaning up landslides that clogged the Alaska Highway.

And speaking of that legendary roadway – it was amazing. There are stretches of hundreds of miles with almost no habitations, gas stations are few and far between, no cell service, no nothing, no kidding, stretches of a hundred miles or more of a narrow strip of asphalt running alone through a howling wilderness.

Eventually I’ll write up a post on the journey, with photos. Too tired at the moment. It was an exhausting, exciting, intriguing, long, strange trip; we loved it but we’re glad it’s over.

And now, at last, we’re home, in the Great Land. We’re home at last; after all this, we’re home at last.

oh my goodness. Last I had heard it was heart surgery, and then they found an aneurysm, too? I am so sorry – it’s terrible that this has all come down on you. Hope with orange tier they loosen up the visiting restrictions it’s so cruel to keep people away from their loved one (and honestly allows them to get away with more lazy care, too, without family there to advocate for the patient).

Hope you and he are through the worst of it, and it’s only healing from now on!

    • hayeksplosives

Yes, the aneurysm is just a diversion on the heart surgery path.

It’s caused by the same thing: the strep bacteria infected some blood vessels (the vessels themselves) and made them weak. The doctor said as soon as he saw the aneurysm on the mri he was 99% sure it was caused by the strep infection; he’s seen it before.

Because it was due to weak vessel walls, it was also very unstable and likely to burst, so this is a major victory.

They will evaluate everything and possibly do the heart surgery Friday or next week.

Vegans should be rounded up and put in camps where they are worked to death and served only scraps of meat, eggs, and intensively farmed foie gras. If they don’t eat, they die quicker. The camp commandants would grill the finest meats and the smells of fine barbecue would waft throughout the camp, while videos and sounds of animal slaughter and wonderfully efficient intensive farming were broadcast day and night in all the sleeping quarters. All the disgusting, subhuman vegans would constantly be subject to very clever and totally unrebuttable taunts such as “for every animal you don’t eat, I will eat ten”, and forced to watch as piles of all their confiscated Tofurkey, tempeh, etc, are doused in pig’s blood and gasoline and set ablaze. (At the very leftmost edge of the shot, you can see part of the stump from the dearly departed tulip poplar.)

(Not anymore – I had to crop the photo to remove our visible and legible license plates. Oops.)

You really should look for such details before posting images.

        Indeed. Lesson learned.

First few minutes are interesting. Wish I had time to stick around and watch the whole thing. May…ummm… “circle back” to it later. Thanks!

You redheads! Always circling back! Should we buy this new thingamajig? Let’s circle back to it! What did I say that made you so angry yesterday? Let’s circle back to it!

    • Psycho Effer

I listened to most of it on the way into the office this morning. It’s great, because Michael is very will versed in CRT, so they can have a great conversation.

Mornin’ Glibbies! I straight out asked my supervisor why he needed the details of hours worked at a certain site. No answer. Doooom!

    • Sean

They won’t fire you. They need at least one person who works hard.

Nobody tied a rope around my waist, though.

Replace me with two Phillipinnas, more like. What were people gabbing on about yesterday? Inviting trouble? That’s me.

      • Psycho Effer

I’ll buy that for a dollar!

The “cone of shame” but at least he has a friend to share the pain.

The hand gestures and everything. Jesus Christ on toast.
