IFLA: The “Changes” Edition fo the Horoscope for the Week of May 9

by | May 9, 2021 | IFLA | 83 comments

Not a whole lot in the stars this week, and what there is is of indeterminate goodness.

Wednesday you’ll see a change in the intensity of your romantic relationships as the New Moon is between the Earth and Venus.  Does this represent a nadir or a new beginning?  I’d have to do more research to answer that and I’m way behind schedule getting this written up already.  Ok, the initial signs are looking pretty good if you’re part of a couple.  CA might have some problems.  On Friday you’ll see a sudden increase in luck as the moon pivots around to bring Mercury into alignment.  If any of you are journalists, you’ll probably be fired on Friday.

Other than that, things haven’t changed much since last week.

Taurus: 2 of Wands reversed – Surprise, wonder, enchantment, emotion, trouble, fear.

Gemini:  Strength  – Power, energy, action, courage, magnanimity, complete success, honors, being stronk.

Cancer: Queen of Coins –  Opulence, generosity, magnificence, security, liberty.

Libra:  4 of Swords – Vigilance, retreat, solitude, hermit’s repose, exile, tomb

Scorpio:  Knight of Cups – Arrival, approach, advances, proposition, demeanor, invitation, incitement.

Sagittarius:  Queen of Swords – Widowhood, female sadness and embarrassment, absence, sterility, mourning, privation, separation.

Capricorn:  3 of Coins – Métier, trade, skilled labor, nobility, aristocracy, renown, glory.

Aquarius:  6 of Wands – Triumph, great news, hope

Pisces:  The Hanged Man reversed – Selfishness, the crowd, body politic.

Aries:  10 of Cups reversed -Repose of the false heart, indignation, violence.

I’m going to hook up with a bipolar woman?

      I’m married, sorry.

He read my latest CL ad- “Desperately seeking redhead, chubby, women, with substance abuse problems, daddy-issues, and hopefully mildly bipolar. Tatts and piercings a plus. No freaks.”

      • Cy Esquire

        “No freaks.”

has basically boiled down to: don’t be a dude pretending to be a chick.

      • Nephilium

        Oh.

French and Greek OK, nothing kinky

Nothing wrong with a little extra company. They don’t have king sized beds for no reason.

Sagittarius: Queen of Swords – Widowhood, female sadness and embarrassment, absence, sterility, mourning, privation, separation.

    Huh.

I haven’t had a chance to incite female embarrassment and sadness for far too long. Does this mean I’ll finally get a go?

    • Fourscore

You? That’s why some of us never catch a break

Not sure Mrs. Q’s undercarriage will be recovered from the surgery by then. Maybe I’ll switch hands?

Does she have a sore throat ?

Good woman, distinguished woman not to be trusted; perverse woman; vice, dishonor, depravity.

This looks a little bit like throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.

“Good woman, distinguished woman not to be trusted; perverse woman”

Sounds to me like you’re in for a good week.

      • Unreconstructed

That’s how I’m choosing to interpret it. *Logs on to Tinder*

        I’m cynical about certain things.

Allo fellow travelers! Finally able to peruse the interwebz after a chaos morning.

  10. westernsloper

    CA might have some problems.

That is a bold out on a limb prediction right there.

I did my sonly duties and my mom has been the recipient of another lily plant. She keeps them in the house for a bit and then plants them in the yard. Not sure how many years this tradition has been going but it makes her happy. Quite a collection in the yard now.

    • Sean

My parents don’t live too far away. I have yet to do my song duties, but I’m gonna go drop off a card and a small gift from her Amazon wishlist this afternoon.

I called and my Mother didn’t answer the phone, as far as I’m concerned the ball is in her court now.

      • Nephilium

Sounds like my family. My dad emailed on Thursday. I replied, still waiting on any word back from him.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Lotsa frozen chosens here, eh?

      • westernsloper

I know this strategy. They never don’t answer their phone though because of a weird fixation with never missing a call. I missed out on that gene since I don’t want any calls.

      • Fourscore

        I’ll remember that.

        /Scratches …sloper off guest list

  11. Toxteth O'Grady

    Happy birthday, Dave Gahan!

Yeah, I still like Depeche Mode. So what?

    • Cy Esquire

It’s about 7,000 nautical miles from China to Europe if there is no arctic ice.

Currently the trip from China to Western Europe through the Panama Canal is 13,000 nm.

      • UnCivilServant

So what you’re saying is we need to start engaging in clandestine unrestricted submarine warfare against Chinese shipping?

      • Cy Esquire

Settle down there Dick Cheney. We still haven’t turned Iran into a glass plate. 1 war at a time.

      • Ted S.

It’s 1500nm shorter if you go through Suez instead of Panama.

      • Cy Esquire

I wonder if the Singapore gap and the dealings with Egypt are the hinderances. For a little while we were taking containers off Chinese container ships in California, running them all of the way to the east coast and putting them on ships to Europe.

        https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-139.6/centery:26.4/zoom:3

There’re still a ton of Chinese ships that go via Panama. I wonder if it has anything to do with trade winds and ocean currents too.

Scared the fuck out of me.

Embellishment, you say? It’s all I can do. Hey not everyone be one of the cool kids.

    The mob speaks

Six online petitions calling for Congress to deliver monthly stimulus checks of $2,000 until the end of the pandemic have now collectively surpassed 2.3 million signatures.

The largest Change.org petition for recurring stimulus checks—created by Stephanie Bonin, a Denver restaurant owner—asks the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to pass legislation that will provide monthly “$2,000 payments for adults and $1,000 payments for kids” until the pandemic ends.

At time of publication, more than 2,128,800 people have signed the petition, with over 100,000 new supporters in the past week. If it passes its goal of 3 million, it will become one of Change.org’s most signed petitions.

    ——-

Five smaller ongoing petitions calling for recurring stimulus checks have also continued to gather signatures in recent weeks.

One of the smaller petitions launched under Trump’s term, calls for the president to “be a Hero to the People” by fighting for monthly direct payments. It has garnered nearly 73,000 signatures at time of publication—roughly 2,000 short of its 75,000 goal.

Whatever. Take your meds, you thieving bastards.

    • Cy Esquire

Fuck you! Pay me! …. or else.

    • rhywun

700 billion a month – LOL no prob

I would trade three months of this for the stupid “infrastructure” bill, though. I’m guessing that’s not part of the deal.

  17. Mojeaux

My Mother’s Day treats: a haircut (7″ cut off) and a Chili’s lava cake.

    • TARDis

Wife and daughter are out doing mani-pedis. Got a reservation for a local Italian restaurant.

It’s interesting I (we) have to pay for everything for someone who is not my mother.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Sorry, T. And FWIW, I hate most holidays too. Am even getting sick of Halloween.

      • TARDis

Thanks, we can be Commie Rat… oh never mind.

      • Cy Esquire

Don’t forget Valentines day AND the anniversary. Between her Birthday, Valentines day, the Anniversary, Christmas and Mother’s day it gets pretty expensive. Which is funny, because she already has everything she wants.

We went to a Mediterranean buffet yesterday for mother’s day. It was REALLY good.

      • Mojeaux

My problem is Christmas. It’s just not magical and I keep trying to do things to force myself to bring back that childhood magic and … nothing hits the spot.

So the other holidays, Hallmark or otherwise, kind of take a hit too. Halloween is a non-starter now that my kids are too old to go trick or treating. Nobody has costume parties, so if I want to dress up and LARP, it’ll have to be for RenFest.

Generally, our family life has been so stressful, trying to remember all these things just makes it more stressful. This is the first year I’ve been on top of everything in, oh, decades.

I’m going to end up working today anyway because I have a bunch of big projects.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Aw, hugs, Miss Mo.

      • Mojeaux

Thanks, but I’m in a good place. I’m trying new things and happy crafting when I can.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Sorry, didn’t mean to o-fend.

      • Mojeaux

        You didn’t! You are wnderful.

      • Nephilium

        Sorry to hear that Mojeaux.

To me holidays are (well were in current times) important because of family and traditions. This is the second year in a row that I haven’t been able to take my nephews to a Free Comic Book Day for the elder’s birthday. Easter is when the girlfriend and I are regularly in Vegas for Viva, which helps fulfill one of her mother’s wishes (that we go to Vegas once a year… long story).

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Yeah, it can get to feel like Danegeld after a while.

Yum, Mediterranean food. /burps dolmas breath

      • Cy Esquire

        TIL: Danegeld

Very cool. It was our first Med Buffet. They did a great job too. I caught a few glares for not wearing my mask. But people tend to not lecture me on much given my size.

      • TARDis

That sounds wonderfully gluttonous. I’ll have to see if there is one near me.

Speaking of gluttonous, Glibfit is that way. >>> 😉

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Cheers to a thoughtful mom. ?

      • Mojeaux

        Thanks!

Attempt #2 just put in the new pizza oven.

    • Nephilium

Wouldn’t this be attempt 3? Good luck, the hive mind here will have opinions regardless.

In good news for today, the local brewery had run out of their specially canned beer within 90 minutes, and I killed the keg they tapped yesterday.

      • Nephilium

        #BlackKegsMatter

      • westernsloper

Nice work! and no this was just 2nd pizza. It turned out much better. The trick is to cook on a pan for a few minutes before decking. My dough stretching needs work.

      • Nephilium

More luck then work. Once I found out they were out of the cans to go, I ordered a pint. That pint happened to kill the keg.

Pie looks good to me, are you going the tossing route or the rolling route?

      • westernsloper

I do both. And then hit it with the docker. I like a thin crispy crust and I have achieved success! Way better than that Portuguese shaped mess I made last night.
