I was informed this outfit in Oklahoma had 5.56 NATO on hand, and its funny how I used to think $0.80/round for milspec was unreasonable. Now UPS is sending me emails pushing back delivery by an hour. Which is infuriating because the way they let you track the truck on the map I could’ve walked to the truck and asked for it by now.
At any rate I got the Israeli stuff that is a wee bit dirty. Here’s the link if you’re interested.
Now for a few links!

Did you know Santiago had an English paper? I didn’t. This story gives me an excuse to bring back this classic.
Have some tunes, ladies. While I go hunting for the UPS guy…
‘d do anything for a First…butt I won’t do that.
So, you earned that first, by the dashboard light?
Every First is earned. And everyone wishes they could be me.
Since when? I’ve been getting less and less tracking data out of UPS for years now. They won’t even tell me what city it’s supposed to be in anymore.
Last time UPS delivered anything here, they left it in a ditch at the bottom of the driveway and I couldn’t find it for days. Thankfully, it was just retractable poles for snowshoes, so being in the elements could have been worse.
They e-mail it out if you’re signed up for the enhanced tracking features. If you live near a hub (as I do), it’s worse then worthless, because my house is close enough to the hub I get the e-mail as the truck is on it’s way out for the day. They don’t deliver it until they’re on their way back at the end of the route.
I always wonder where the route starts because I’m always last. Like… who’s getting their packages between 8am when the truck leaves the facility and 8pm when I might be lucky enough to receive mine?!
*Raises hand* I generally get my deliveries between 11am and 2pm.
I hate you.
Hype shit-lording with his early package privilege.
I’m lucky to get things before 7.
Same here.
FedEx ground is generally around 11 am.
OOPS is generally between 4 and 6 pm.
We get ours at all hours, possibly because my wife is so addicted to spending money on Amazon that they have to use all possible vectors of transmission.
5.66 NATO
That’s new.
*EDIT FAIRY TAKES OPPORTUNITY FIRE*
It’s fractionally larger than the 5.56 so that it won’t work in standard sporting rifles.
A third front in the .223 vs 5.56 war has opened up.
My 223 Contender shoots them interchangeably. I shoot both equally bad.

Our idiot governor started a panic.
Va. (AP/WRIC) — Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth to address gas supply disruptions following a cyberattack of one of America’s fuel pipelines.
Gov. Northam’s Executive Order 78 allows state agencies to issue their own waivers. It also increases flexibility and funding for state and local governments to make sure they have enough fuel supply.
“This emergency declaration will help the Commonwealth prepare for any potential supply shortages and ensure Virginia motorists have access to fuel as we respond to this evolving situation,” Governor Northam said.
Luckily I filled up yesterday. I guess I’ll be granny-shifting the rest of the week.
Don’t worry, the emergency will only last a couple of weeks to flatten the curve.
My thought as well. “So, this is how the gas rationing starts.”
Da, tovarishch.
Heh.
Yep.
Northam will only make the situation worse. Maybe I’m wrong and we will see nationwide gas shortages.
“The United Nations human rights office has strongly criticised a police raid against suspected drug traffickers in Rio de Janeiro, amid allegations of abuse and extrajudicial executions.
The deadliest police operation in the city’s history has left 28 dead, including a police officer.
Residents say police killed suspects who wanted to surrender and entered homes without a warrant.”
Or you know, legalize the drugs.
I wonder if they were a Waco asleep.
*narrows gaze*
That’s pretty much standard operating procedure among Brazilian national police.
BOPE is the most famous such police unit, and their unofficial motto is, “We Don’t Carry Handcuffs.” They’re generally popular with the locals because they don’t take bribes, but they’re a death squad, no mistake.l
I’ve personally seen Brazilian Military Police guarding a drive through coke house in a favela in a northeastern city. Full uniforms, squad cars and strapped with rifles counting the cars coming through.
Yep. BOPE is the outlier when it comes to corruption.
Hey Sheldon, have you seen the movie Tropa da Elite (I think it was translated as Elite Squad)? Definitely worth a watch if you have not. It’s about the BOPE and well done. They are highly feared and respected in Brazil. Probably the most hardcore urban warfare force in the world.
“Infrastructure refers to all non-material institutions, facilities, and systems that are essential to society.”
Oh, fuck off.
The narrative must persist.
KING: You know, after the Derek Chauvin verdict, you and Barack released a statement that I thought was very powerful. You all felt the need to speak out. You don’t often speak out, the two of you together.
OBAMA: The goal is to let leaders lead, but in certain times, people look to us, what do you think, how do you feel? And we know that while we’re all breathing a sigh of relief over the verdict, there’s still work to be done.
KING: Yes.
OBAMA: And so we can’t sort of say, great, that happened, let’s move on. I know that people in the black community don’t feel that way because … many of us live in fear as we go to the grocery store or worry about —
KING: Walking our dogs.
OBAMA: Walking our dogs, or allowing our children to get a license.
Perhaps black people should stop killing each other in droves. Oh you meant – well, never mind, I suppose.
That bigfoot broad ain’t never stepped in a grocery store and her biggest fear is that someone will inadvertently fail to recognize her out in public. Fucking lying bitch.

Fuuuuuck off you you out of touch rich fuck. My parents don’t like traveling back to their home on the Southside of Chicago at night because of a risk of being car jacked or getting hit with a stray bullet. Why don’t you talk about how the inner cities have become a prison to decent folks because of the violence. But Obama won’t because she’s fucking elitist who couldn’t relate to the average black person in the hood.

Angry Ghost Of Chris Farley Appears To Haunt Current Saturday Night Live Cast
I watched some of the skits from last Saturday. It was cringe worthy bad. The left has killed comedy.

“Dr. Anthony Fauci and Rand Paul squared off on Tuesday over the origins of the coronavirus, with the Republican senator accusing the National Institutes of Health of funding risky Chinese research into bat coronaviruses that infect humans.
Paul accused Fauci and the NIH of supporting ‘gain of function’ research (which is essentially the study of how viruses are transmitted) with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
‘You are entirely and completely incorrect,’ Fauci shot back. ‘The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute.'”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9567069/Dr-Anthony-Fauci-Senator-Rand-Paul-clash-Senate-hearing.html
So you are saying he’s absolutely correct, and the NIH funded gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute?
If memory serves, the Obama admin indirectly funded that research cuz there’s some law preventing its being done here.
I read that Fauci got the money to Wuhan early in the Trump admin after the Obama admin had blocked him. Apparently he realized there was no competent oversight on him and off he went.
I was under the impression that the government (in some form, not necessarily the NIH) funded it but stopped and then Fauchi found money elsewhere in order to continue the work.
Well…
https://reporter.nih.gov/project-details/9819304
Thank you. Hence the “not necessarily”
Yup. It’s like Treasury saying they don’t print money and the Fed saying they only buy Treasury bonds.
1. They funded the Wuhan Institute.
2. The Wuhan Institute did research into gain of function research.
It’s like saying tax dollars that go to Planned Parenthood don’t fund abortions, I suspect.
I must be taking stupid pills because that “fact check” on the side doesn’t seem to be “proof” of anything whatsoever to me.
No! They simply channeled the money through a grantee that funded it. The NIH didn’t do it directly! *smirk*
Swissy, folks. The man who put the “fun” back in “fungible.”
Odd. He normally puts the laughter in manslaughter.
*dances on table, flinging CHF out*
Fauci’s eliding the truth. The NIH funded Eco-Health Alliance which funded the Wuhan lab.
Paul’s going directly after the weasel. Good. He needs to find a CDC whistleblower.
Haul Peter Daszak in front of Congress and make him go under oath.
See pic below. Totes gain of function.
“which is essentially the study of how viruses are transmitted”
It’s more than that. It’s increasing the infectious/virulence properties of a virus.

Please. Its not like there’s a penalty for lying to congress.
I think perjury applies.
But there is no penalty for giving vague, insolent, or non-responsive answers. There should absolutely be penalties for government officials doing that. Regular citizens not so much.

I love how the Palestinians start shit with Israel and then play the victim when Israel retaliates.
I guess this is all part of the Biden administration’s return to normal.
I saw Hamas is one of the ones, and figure it could be their Iranian puppet masters trying to put more pressure on sweetening the already sugary sweet giveaway Obama/Biden deal.
Crybullies.
The Abraham Accords got one thing right: freeze out Hamas/Palestinians from the peace process and get other Arab nations connected with Israel.
No.
“Just try for a moment to look at the world through the eyes of a Palestinian child.”
“Just try for a moment to look at the world through the eyes of a Nazi child.”
Yes, innocent children suffer when their elders decide to start a war. That’s how it goes. Maybe if the Palestinians didn’t want their children to suffer, they wouldn’t start shit. And they definitely wouldn’t locate military targets among civilians.
I picked up a case of their di-cut hp 9mm a few months ago. It was priced much lower then, maybe at 60/cents a round so seemed a steal.
I’m kicking myself for not loading up on Federal HST and other rounds this time last year when prices already seemed crazy but not yet ridiculous.
Me too. I remember a year ago Target Sports had Gold Dot on sale for 50% on case quantities.
That sale is the reason I’m sitting on around 1600 9mm 124grn. Gold Dots.
I have 1300 to 1400 of them as well (thanks to Target Sports)
Fucking Chipotle managers make that kind of money? All the shit i had to learn, dues I had to pay and the 80k toolbox I bought was a fucking waste. I shoulda just got into the fast food game. It used to be an insult to call someone a burger flipper.
Managing unruly fast food workers? Probably deserve it.
Average compensation, so starting is probably closer to $70-75k. That includes benefits and HR always throws in things like employer-paid FICA into that calculation. So maybe a starting salary of $50-55k. Still that’s good money without needing to buy your way in, but hyped up for the article.
Not to mention incentive pay.
Still, I know people who work for that kind of money.
Just drove by a Dairy Queen that’s says it’s closed Mondays because their don’t have enough employees.
I have heard at least 2 restaurants around here do the same.
It’s not too late, they are hiring.
I don’t have the stomach for anything to do with Chipotle. If you get my drift.
My stomach is alright, but the uncontrollable anal convulsions leave me feeling like I’ve done ten rounds with Steve Smith, in reverse…
They’re using the ‘compensation’ dodge. Adding the inflated dollar value of the medical, retirement, and other benefits to the base salary.
Sure, but that’s still good for managing a chain restaurant. If I had to choose one, I guess Chipotle would be my first choice.
No breakfast, however.
Well, now I feel a little better.
Man, I clicked a Jacobin link. I’m never gonna get the commie (hi Hype!) stench out of this browser now.
Sorry, lack of T/W.
That explains the stinging in my eyes.
OFFS. I wasn’t aware of that commie bullshit law.
I wonder, does Jacobin give a shit about everything being way more expensive here because of shit like this?
I didn’t actually RTFA, I just got the headline that Chipotle is evil. I don’t read no Jacobin bullshit.
Chipotle is getting sued for some ridiculous amount by NYC because they don’t treat their workers like they have a 9-5 job with steady hours and shit. It’s NOT FAIR to operate with some flexibility.
Well, that does sound like they are exploitative. We better nationalize the tainted burrito industry and put Fauchi in charge. It’s the only way to attain…equity.
“Your first duty as Manager is explaining to angry customers why their burrito now costs $25.”
Energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm says that the current gasoline situation is a “supply crunch,” not a “gasoline shortage.”
A supply crunch sounds kinda fun, like a candy bar. Much better than a shortage.
Once the gas lines start, we can’t call it a “surge” because that’s a military term.
Undocumented tank fillers?
A. o. C.
Jimmy Carter and I remember the shortages of the 70’s. That’s why the feds need to take over gas allocation or farm it out to the GoodFellas. That way it isn’t rationing, ’cause that’s a bad word left over from WW2, which I also remember.
Just put on a good pair of walking shoes and catch your local light rail.
If the last number of your license plate is odd you can get your 5 gals max on a Monday and wear a sweater
Welcome to the Second Jimmy Carter presidency.
Gas lines and a double digit misery index.
I don’t think there is going to be a Reagan/Volcker team to save us this time around.
Now, now. According to Twitter you are just confused. Carter is remembered for the Nobel Prize he won and the work he did with Habitrail for Humanity.
Jimmy had a fine career as ex-president. Too bad he couldn’t have gone straight to “ex” and bypassed the white house.
I was just a wee lad during the Carter years, but I’ve long believed that Presidents get far too much credit and bear far too much blame for things they cannot control, like the economy, gas prices, unemployment etc. Blaming Jimmy for the shitty situations he happened to preside over is the Disco version of blaming Trump for the ‘Vid.
Well, Hype, Trumpy had some pretty good stuff under his watch and the “Weekend at Bernies” stunt double has done the exact opposite and everything has turned to shit in just three months. EVERYTHING!
I remember that too. The whole fucking world was siphoning gas and the kids (I.E. me) had to do the hard part. Probably why I’m all whacked out now, all those inadvertent gulps of gas back when I was 10.
oblig: https://frinkiac.com/caption/S06E21/225624
Accurate depiction.
When my parents got the Econoline back in ’78, the back was empty so they could get commercial plates and avoid the gas lines. Dad then outfitted it to make it a camper van.
I was working part time in a full service gas station in TX, at the time (Exxon). We couldn’t get enough gas so hours were curtailed (Guess whose?).
I was encouraged to expand my career horizons.
Whelp, I guess they need a bail out.
*money printer go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr*
Is it wrong that whenever I hear “bailout” these days, I picture someone who looks like Boss Hogg smoking a cigar and wiping their brow with money?
She’s a bright one.
Must be why she’s allowed to remain on the boards of companies she’s tasked with regulating.
Maybe if they didn’t block every pipeline request on the east coast they wouldn’t have this issue…
That’s just silly talk, need to put some non-elected highly qualified people to handle the distribution
Sad news in sports circles. Former University of Hawaii gunslinger Colt Brennan has passed away at 37.
He was fun to watch against hapless WAC defenses. Damn shame that his failure to catch on in the NFL led to some life reversals, and ultimately an untimely demise.
Now I feel bad for making fun of the guy for how UH played against UGA in whatever bowl that was.
Colt and the Warriors danced through the WAC and their non-conference slate that year, walloping such traditional powers as Idaho and Charleston Southern, only scoring fewer than 35 points once (a 28-26 win at Nevada-Reno). They then had the misfortune to play top-tier SEC teams in back-to-back games (2008 Sugar Bowl vs Georgia and 2008 season opener @ Florida).
They lost by a combined score of 97-20.
I don’t want to alarm anyone but the NYT did some actual journalism.

Real deal Cobra!
Is that Stallone behind the wheel of that? I think he kept the car from the movie.
“You’re the disease and I’m the cure.” Loved that flick.
Dunno, but the guy i worked for sold them some full fiberglass bodies. I drove one of the stunt cars after the filming was over. It had the hand operated rear brake lever so you could spin it easily.
Nice. I had to look it up and it was a 1950 Merc Monterey. Evidently one complete car survived filming and Stallone kept it. It was stolen from his garage and went missing for years. He kept searching for it and found it listed for sale and got it back. I imagine it’s still in one of his garages. Sweet ass car.
Yeah. They had a whole, steel car that was complete. Probably the one he kept. The rest were fiberglass bodies with all the same (ish) mods and built on Caprice frames. No interior, except the visible parts where needed and light on details. That’s the one I drove. Gene Winfield had a full sized mold with a chopper gun. that’s where the stunt car’s bodies came from.
One of the things that bugs me the most on twitter – esp the posts about no available employees, etc – they come in sets of *stupid* replies.
1. All the minimum wage workers are dead of COVID
2. You’re asking folks to RISK THEIR LIVES WITH A DEADLY VIRUS to go work at a restaurant or anything else.
It’s all corollary to the “if your business plan doesn’t involve paying all your employees $20/hr you deserve to go out of business.”
Absolutely insanely dumb.
The official number is about a quarter of one percent of the populace who’ve died. That’s disregarding the obvious overstating they have done. All of this happened because of a virus that killed that few people. Imma say much less than that, if we could ever arrive at a truthful number. Way more people are likely to die from side effects of the response.
Because twenty bucks an hour totally mitigates the risk of the ‘Vid. It is known.
You’re asking folks to RISK THEIR LIVES WITH A DEADLY VIRUS to go work at a restaurant or anything else.
If nobody worked, all our lives would not only be at risk, they’d be forfeit. Gotta work to eat. If you’re eating without working, someone else is doing the work for you.

I really don’t like French. He’s an insecure misogynist asshole.
Judge dismisses NRA bankruptcy case
A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed the National Rifle Association’s bankruptcy case, leaving the powerful gun-rights group to face a New York state lawsuit that accuses it of financial abuses and aims to put it out of business.
The case was over whether the NRA should be allowed to incorporate in Texas instead of New York, where the state is suing in an effort to disband the group. Though headquartered in Virginia, the NRA was chartered as a nonprofit in New York in 1871 and is incorporated in the state.
Judge Harlin Hale said in a written order that he was dismissing the case because he found the bankruptcy was not filed in good faith.
I have zero respect for the NRA. They take and take and never really deliver. They’re getting raked over the coals by NY, but honestly, I couldn’t care less.
Meh, they’re not solely an advocacy group. NRA-ILA sucks, but their other facets are good.
Nothing is absolute. Generally speaking, the NRA sucks balls. I don’t doubt that there’s value somewhere in there, just that that value even remotely matches the amount of effort and money people pour into it.
The NRA Institute for Legislative Action does not suck, at all. The NRA-ILA is the only successful 2A lobbying group working at the federal level. Every other pro-2A group in the country can pile up all their achievements, and the pile wouldn’t come up to the NRA-ILA’s ankles. It is not even slightly hyperbolic to say that the ILA is the reason that we can still mostly own guns.
I’ll give you that the rest of the NRA is heavily featherbedded and leans towards the boomercon, but the NRA-ILA is something we cannot toss aside.
I gotta defer to your superior knowledge here. All I know is, here in California, people send them money and all they seem to get done is allowing yet more stringent laws. I’m all about supporting Calguns. Those guys fight every time, even if they lose a lot.
Should I be outrage that the state is targeting a “right wing” group, or happy that these grifters are being held accountable for enriching themselves while claiming to be ‘non-profit’ organization?
The former is correct.
Theoretically, number 1, but number two is just as valid. It sucks that it will never be used for a BLM founder who’s going to end up a real estate magnate, though.
I called out an acquaintance on that. You’re okay with one of the BLM founders using donations to buy herself some expensive real estate but are all up in arms about the NRA doing the same thing?
I’m not a perfect person but I do try to live by a set of principles. I see a lot of friends who proclaim their own goodness and how principled they are throw it all out the window when it comes to politics.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m pissed that the NRA took the money and ran. Just, let’s apply the outrage across the board. The fucking NY prosecutors are so blatantly using it politically, they should be used to dull up some woodchipper blades (euphemistically, of course.)
Yes.
“These grifters are stealing from the organization. Therefore, to hold them accountable, we must eliminate the organization.”
This actually makes sense to a lot of people.

“The Cicadas Are Coming. Let’s Eat Them!
Why not embrace Brood X as the free-range, sustainable source of protein that it truly is?
For 17 years, the trillions of cicadas known as Brood X have tunneled through dark soil, feeding on sap as they slowly matured. Babies during the George W. Bush years, these long-gestating underground bugs are starting to hatch across the eastern United States, emerging from the earth in astounding numbers. Their time above ground is short: three to six weeks, just long enough to mate and die. As a biological phenomenon, gigantic cicada broods are hard to ignore. They’re like crickets with musical-theater degrees—dramatic, loud, committed to a splashy outfit change. And while some people will delight in their natural spectacle, others will just want to be rid of them. There is, however, another reaction: Grab a fork and knife.”

I went the extra mile and topped with some shredded parm.
Yum, Rao’s.
Yeah, so my car just got (probably) totaled.
Not my fault, but I love that car and I’m going to cry if they total it.
Oh, that sucks.
Sorry.
No injuries?
Nope. No injuries to either of us. No airbags deployed. Clearcut. No confrontation or contention (no hugging either). Didn’t want her to get cited because the insurance will punish her enough. After all, they’re not called ON PURPOSES. Just pray my car gets fixed because I don’t want to lose it.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for ya.
Fight the insurance company if they want to total it. They will do what they want. You do what you want. You want your car, make them fix it. It’s always a fight with those people. They just want to avoid paying for anything they can. BTW, I’m happy nobody got hurt.
What do you mean, “those people”?
Insurance companies. I have battled them many times. On behalf of my customers and myself. Those people!
I’m missing something. Was it a single car accident or with another vehicle?
Two car. Got T-boned.
Shit. I’m sorry.
ouch. Glad you’re OK!
It’s good there are no injuries. Sorry about your car. I hope you can get it fixed.
Condolences.
I had to replace Mom’s lesbianmobile (2004 Subaru Legacy) at the beginning of the year. Brake light came on one morning and the dealership claimed it would cost more to fix than the car was worth.
That’s bullshit. There’s not really any way the brake light coming on could exceed the value of the car. Well maybe at the dealer, getting charged 200 bucks an hour for book time and full pop parts prices. Subarus are slot cars. All slot A and no tab B.
Damn, sorry the twitter pic didn’t look that bad, everyone is okay I assume.
Everyone’s fine. I still feel 15, stupid, and immortal so getting hurt isn’t exactly my first thought.
The back door on the hinge side is peeled back like it got opened with a can opener.
Give yourself some time to make that decision. Sometimes, pain comes in later. Even if it’s minor pain, make the party responsible pay for it. I assure you, they would make you pay if they could.
And, don’t let it bring you down!
This is legitimately what insurance is for. Don’t let her raised rates impact your use of insurance for its intended purpose.
I really really really just want my car back.
Oh, jeez, that bites. She young?

There was no point to being mad then or now. I would hope that someday someone else would be as understanding with me,
Hope all works out well. Cars accidents are always a bummer, in between the expense, inconvenience and pain. Good luck.

I clicked on the Brazilian jack-booted thug story but I could only make it a short way in what with my blood pressure and all. But then this other story caught my eye:
Beware, it’s absolutely sickening. If you want to do that to yourself, at least don’t give any click-thrus to that garbage:

They’re just helping people realize that they need to respect their betters and not question them an, well, anything. The vaccine induced clotting and allergic reactions? All unfounded conspiracy theories, the lot of them.
These fucking assholes. There’s a world of difference between saying the vax will kill you and saying it might not make sense to take it. There’s very little to fear from the ‘vid and there’s no real reason to take a chance on some rushed, emergency vax. Beyond that, these are the same people who have been proven liars this whole year, why should we believe them about this shot? We should not, until time proves us wrong. Funny thing is, those who skip the vax will mostly all be here to see if time proves us right or wrong. What does that say about it all?
It’s always a false choice with progs. Always.
There is evidence the vax may actually kill you. It is on the CDC’s website. It has killed close to 4,000 people according to a reporting system that has been declared in a Harvard study to catch 1% of vaccine adverse events such as, well, death.
Fuck, I am tired of this.
Keep everything in the same fucking units.
The vaccine has killed about 4000 out of 100,000,0000 or 0.0004%
Covid has killed 100s of thousands at the rate of about 1% of the people that get it.
Get the shot; don’t get the shot; do whatever you want to do.
Stop pushing 4000 deaths from the vaccine like it is something scary.
I’m not on the “it’s dangerous” side as much as I’m on the ” it’s unnecessary” side. For me and most others. Some people really need it and I’m good with that. Making everyone get it? Nope.
The vaccine is an unnecessary risk for the majority of the population.
Does anybody get occasional weird pop-ups when they use the sidebar navigation buttons?
It happened twice today (and a few times over the past few weeks) so I scanned my phone for malware, but didn’t get any hits.
Yes that’s happened to me on my phone and my iPad.
Yep, there it goes; something Hawaiian sounding.
Prove he is wrong. Oh, we can’t do that because we can’t investigate the origin. Ok I guess I will just pull my mask back up and go along with my evening.
Didn’t you get the memo? Research that could potentially reflect badly on the Chinese is racist!
The CCP must be laughing its ass off at our incompetence.
Yeah, and we can’t really narrow our gaze at them without seeming racist.
I lee what you did there.
You know, things are going to go a lot better in America when we all figure out that the shithole countries have it right: you obey the dictates of your betters and you get to live in peace and safety. Question them and you get what you deserve.
