Things To Come

…looks sparse.

Recent events have thrown the site in a bit of a muddle (read as : C has life going on). I am trying to step up in the editing and scheduling department…but I need help. Not in editing and scheduling – unless Tonio wants to help, he does a really good job…better ‘n me, frankly – but in content.

The same old gang has been helping us manage…Animal and Yusuf have continued. Tulip, Ozy, kinnath, ‘sloper, db, straffin, Creosote Achilles, and CPRM have pitched in during the weeks. Not Adahn and Chafed on Saturdays. Recently Tonio and Trashy have helped fill in emergency links gaps. Nephilium hosts the Zoom that all the cool kids join. Note: I am not counting TPTB (sorry Mex, Old Man, WebDom, Spud, SF, sloopy, banjos, Riven, Don Brett and me) Winston’s Mom or the Cryptids. We signed up for this madness.

HERE IS YOUR BIG CHANCE! Got a rant saved up? Let it fly! We have “Rant” and “KHAAAAN” as categories.

Want to report liberty impacting news (like DEG has) – do eet!

Something going on out in the wide wide world, and want to pass along observations (*cough* Catalonia, China *cough*) – jump on in for the big win.

Hit that Leads/Submissions link!

Thank you in advance.

I’ll see what I can crank out in the next couple of days.

    • egould310

      Stay hydrated.

      • Chafed

That’s good advice but lubrication may be more helpful.

    • R C Dean

That’s, umm, good for you and all, but I think the site needs content.

      • Not Adahn

        onlyfans.com/glibertarians

  2. Animal

    I’m prepping another multi-parter.

    • Jerms

      Looking forward to it.

  3. zwak

One thing that has been turning over in my mind lately (and no, this isn’t a rant, so it works perfectly here) is having a guest spot for links. Like trying to get any semi-regular to sign up to show everyone what they have been looking at, much like Webdoms links.

You see, I wouldn’t mind doing the links every once in a while, but I don’t need another regular spot. Did that once somewhere else. Just a thought.

    • zwak

Oh, and would anyone be interested in a book club? That I would be happy to do.

    • Mojeaux

I have done links as regular articles because they had a theme, and they ended up as morning links.

  4. Not Adahn

I was planning on doing a series of puppy pics each captioned with an appropriate Jane’s Addiction lyric because she “enjoys stealing, it’s just simple as that.” Unfortunately for hte plan, I am having difficulty coming up with enough pics.

    • egould310

I’m friends with Jane. She’s addiction free and leading a decent life. Nice lady.

    • PudPaisley

That’s a brilliant idea! Big fan of that band. Big, big fan.

First lyrics that popped into my head was “I am skin and bones, I am pointy nose, but it motherfuckin’ makes me try”.

      • Not Adahn

So many lyrics that I think could be demonstrated at the dog park:

“some people I don’t know they won’t leave me alone.”

“Me and my girlfriend don’t wear no clothes you know her nose is a painted pepper sunlight”

“How you treat the weak is your true nature calling”

“Without game men prey on each other.”

        etc, etc, etc.

  5. The Bearded Hobbit

I’ve had a couple of articles in mind.

One would be a book review of The Thousand and One Nights but it will require another re-read (or at least a dedicated skimming) in order to gather together quotations.

The other would be a two-part on electrical power and distribution. However, I have only the knowledge of a novice on the subject and would request the commenters to correct or in-fill my deficiencies.

Still traveling a lot to support Mom so these will be on the back burner for a while.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

Also in my planning pipeline, an article about pre-PC days of computers say, 1969-1985. Still need a bit of research, though.

    • hayeksplosives

*perks up at electrical power distribution comment*

      • The Bearded Hobbit

I had you in mind for an “expert opinion”.

  6. Gender Traitor

As much time as I spend here, and as much enjoyment I get from it, I really do owe the site something. At the moment, all I can think to write fairly quickly would be a weird, yet somehow boring story from my own life. I’ve submitted a pitch of sorts, so we’ll see what The Editors have to say.

    • Trigger Hippie

‘As much time as I spend here, and as much enjoyment I get from it, I really do owe the site something.’

I’ll probably just send them some money again…it’s been awhile.

  7. Trigger Hippie

I’m still sitting on my article about repealing the Reapportionment Act two plus years later…sorry.

I just have no faith in myself that it won’t be a completely incoherent dumpster fire.

Maybe an article about my life and experiences in drug culture/society’s fringe?…there’s nothing I’ve done that can’t be topped by blackjack(the REAL most interesting man alive).

…The only article I’ve ever written was a review of a controversial decision on a boxing match. Maybe another one? I still hold the belief that Wilder beat Fury in their first match. Then again, who really gives a shit?

I don’t know, man. I guess I can submit something in the next week or so but I can’t promise it won’t be a disaster. Just go OT as soon as possible.

    • Lackadaisical

“I just have no faith in myself that it won’t be a completely incoherent dumpster fire”

That had never stopped any other article submitter.

      • Trigger Hippie

‘That had never stopped any other article submitter.’

Yeah but this is article is cobbled together across nearly three years with no continuous flow from on point to another. It’s just a collection of brain farts lasting a paragraph or two that don’t tie together at all…and I’m not exactly the sharpest peanut in the glibertariat turd at my best…this article is not my best.

      • Chafed

It doesn’t matter. Reread it once. Edit it once. Submit it.

      • Lackadaisical

        ^this.

It’s a topic is like to read on.

      • Lackadaisical

At worst we can enjoy poking fun at you, and you’ll have earned your stay that way. 😉

      • Trigger Hippie

We’ll see. I really need to rearrange a few paragraphs and add some content between them to make the thing halfway readable. Plus a proper ending point. I haven’t wrapped that up yet.

      • Fourscore

        Wait? We’re supposed to re-read and edit? I thought that’s was Te,D S’ job.

      • Chafed

It can be. It all depends on what is submitted.

    • Jerms

I would like to read about the drug culture. I had a few years of my life ruined by addiction and my best friend for over 30 years was a heroin addict. Love reading blackjacks comments on that stuff as well.

      • Chafed

        Now there’s an article.

      • Trigger Hippie

‘…my best friend for over 30 years was a heroin addict.’

I’m very, very, very lucky I developed a fear of hypodermic needles as a child. Five friends dead from smack and counting.

      • rhywun

        Yikes! Sorry.

Yeah, that is one thing I would never consider trying and there was a time I would try almost anything.

      • Chafed

        That’s awful. Sorry that happened.

      • The Bearded Hobbit

a fear of hypodermic needles as a child

Yup, same thing. And I grew up in the late 60’s when it was “a thing”.

Never done The Big H. Didn’t stop my nephew from killing himself. Wish I had a time machine so I could go back and slap the shit out of him.

      • Jerms

Terrible. My buddy passed a little over a year ago after having 10 months clean. Died alone in a shitty motel.
Was never afraid of needles and did some dabbling but luckily never developed a physical habit to the stuff.

      • Trigger Hippie

Shit happens, guys. The last one was just after the Covid lockdowns went to effect and aside from a few minutes of sadness my general reaction was: “Yeah, of course. Why not?”.

I’m entirely too jaded at this point.

      • blackjack

I’m glad I was able to entertain/reach somebody. Thanks.

  8. EvilSheldon

    I wish I could write competently…

    • The Hyperbole

Hasn’t stopped me, plus usually if you ask nicely one of the actual writers around here will give your crappy prose the once over and make sure you don’t sound like a complete moron. At least grammar and spelling wise, the content of you essay may be stupid and they can’t fix that.

    • kinnath

      You could always collaborate.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        Collaborators get shanked.

  9. LCDR_Fish

Working on a navy piece based on some suggestions. Maybe done in a week or so – probably more than one piece.

  10. The Late P Brooks

    Pop-up gun shop?

Four people have been arrested on drug and illegal weapons charges at a downtown Denver hotel close to Coors Field, but the FBI says it has “no reason to believe” the suspects posed a threat to the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Three men and one woman in their 40s were arrested Friday night after a “report of a suspicious occurrence” at the Maven Hotel, located one block from Coors Field. Officers responding to a tip searched two rooms at the hotel, recovered evidence and impounded two vehicles.

But despite the close proximity to Coors Field and multiple other events held in conjunction with the All-Star Game, the FBI said Sunday in a statement that the suspects likely weren’t connected to terrorism.

“We have no reason to believe this incident was connected to terrorism or a threat directed at the All-Star Game,” the FBI said. “We are not aware of any threat to the All-Star Game events, venues, players or the community at this time.”

Just your average everyday run of the mill criminal masterminds, I reckon.

  11. The Late P Brooks

I’m too busy trying to figger out how to get all this crap out of here in a timely manner, post-closing. The new owner is a really nice guy, but I’m pretty sure he’s eager to see the back of me.

  12. Aloysious

How about educational? I know I have trouble with the alphabet.

  13. Chafed

The Hyperbole thanks for your kind words about GlibFit. I’m genuinely glad to know it motivated you.

    • Trigger Hippie

I’m sorry that I never comment on these articles. What can I say? I’m a thin man. If I don’t consume at least 3k calories a day I lose weight. After starting a new job two weeks ago I’ve been on a budget until the first pay day and lost six pounds(167.4lbs).

GlibFit Regime: Eat a lot of dead animal, lay off the sugar, and do physical labor while being a hair above “Working Poor”.

      Ha!

      • Chafed

You have no reason to apologize. We are all unique. Fitness has many aspects, not just weight. And some people just aren’t interested. You do you.

      • Trigger Hippie

The bad thing is is that I could contribute to the discussion. I was my amateur boxing club’s most decorated fighter/ran the gym’s workouts for the head coach, worked corners for the other fighters and was a licensed Golden Gloves coach during my late teens/early twenties. I also was a boxing coach/personal trainer for a brief while a handful of years ago. I don’t think of myself as an exercise expert by any stretch of the imagination but I do know my wy around a workout regimen.

        So, sorry.

      • The Hyperbole

I just bought a speed bag.

      • straffinrun

        A hooker’s severed head?

      • Trigger Hippie

Sorry, friend. In my personal opinion, the speed bag is the single most useless piece of equipment in a boxing gym. I never kept one in the gym, much less as part of the workout. Yes, yes, hand/eye coordination. Except the movements and muscle memory developed are never, ever used in an actual fight. A tightly strung double end bag is far superior for real scenario muscle memory and coordination.

      • straffinrun

For exercise? Still moving the body. Why not?

      • The Hyperbole

I watched a video and it looked cool, I don’t imagine I’m going to use the skills to kick any ass. I’m a grappler anyway when it comes to battle. Actually I usually concede immediately and hope the other guy accepts my surrender. Fighting sucks.

      • Trigger Hippie

‘For exercise? Still moving the body. Why not?’

That’s fair. But if you want a full body exercise just buy a jump rope with weighted handles.

      • Trigger Hippie

‘I watched a video and it looked cool, I don’t imagine I’m going to use the skills to kick any ass. I’m a grappler anyway when it comes to battle.’

I get that. Just saying I never found a utility for it in a gym. If I wanted to work on my speed, reflexes, and coordination with my upper torso I’d work the double end bag and punching mitts if available. If it works up a sweat and makes you feel better, go for it.

      • Spudalicious

That originally read as, “I just bought a bag of speed”. That’s a bold weight loss strategy, Cotton.

      • Chafed

        Alright. Enjoy your guilt.

      • Trigger Hippie

Not sure if I’ll ever enjoy it but it’ll always be there for one reason or the other. 😉

  14. Lackadaisical

I’ll crap one out about the national debt, a redux of the ones I submitted several years (?) back now. It’ll be lulzy how far off I was regarding the amount of our debt now. I thought I was a pessimist, but reality just keeps out sucking my wildest dreams.

  15. robodruid

Cant write an article to save my life.
But what i would like to hear about is everyone’s favorite tool, and why.

And go ahead and get “your mom” jokes out of your system.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

      My cordless drill/screwdriver.

      And Winston’s Mom.

    • hayeksplosives

The Stanley 55 planer because it’s a thing of beauty.

    • zwak

6-inch metal lathe, made in 1938.

      • zwak

Oh, I forgot about the why. You can do almost any machining with a lathe, and the level of precision in a machine that is 80+ years is unreal. This one was considered a model makers lathe, you know, for the nerds who spend all of their lives making miniature steam engines, things like that. I am going to use it to make an airgun as I steadily get better with it. Right now I use it for general screwing around and some light gunsmithing.

      • blackjack

I have a 1947 Clausing 13×40. I also have a 1976 Rockwell mill. I spent more on tooling than the machines themselves. I have made many custom motorcycle parts with them. Learning to machine parts has been one of the funnest things I have ever done. That, and welding.

      • zwak

Yeah, I get you about the tooling. My grandfather was a machinist around WWII and I inherited his chest. But I am not much of a welder, and only have a pair of bottles now. Got rid of my buzz box.

    • straffinrun

      Hammer.

      • Loveconstitution1789

If you cant fix it with a hammer, it cant be fixed.

    • Mojeaux

My 50yo Craftsman corded drill. The torque on this thing is unreal.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

I’m a tool fiend. I own waaaaay too many.

But frankly, my favorite is my Kershaw flip-action pocketknife.

Second most is my mitsumoto calipers.

      • Gustave Lytton

I’ve been lusting after those and a Stabila level (maybe two).

    • Jerms

My Sawz-all. Use it to cut everything. Thing can even get through a 2.5 cm ballbladder.

    • The Hyperbole

Currently its the Ramset Hammershot, I usually use Tapcon screws to attach wood to concrete but I had a job that was going to require a lot more of that than normal so the Ramset was purchased, I get why you gun nuts are gun nuts, nothing like using explosives to shoot nails through 2x4s and into a concrete wall. “racking ” the tool after each shot and watching the spent casings* pop out along with the smell and the smoke is seriously macho shit.

*probably not the right term but I’m a carpenter not a gun nut and the manual referred to them as loads and you immature people would just make crude jokes if I mentioned “ejecting the loads” so I went with casings.

    • CatchTheCarp

Dewalt gyroscopic cordless screwdriver – bought it for a home project that required driving a lot of screws. It makes driving screws and nuts a breeze. Surprising amount of torque – it will drive a 3″ deck screws with no problem. Handy little tool that I use often and would buy again.

    • Loveconstitution1789

I used a hydraulic ratchet in the Navy to loosen nuts that were seized from paint and seawater. Lets just say that the US navy didnt have a means to test how much ft-lbs or newtons this thing applied to nuts.

We also sheared off a few bolts because the nuts has fused to the bolts somehow.

  16. robodruid

Wife is being pressured to take the vid vaccine. Advise on how to get out of it? (work-healthcare education)

    • rhywun

      Religious exemption.

    • The Hyperbole

She should give an honest explanation of why she doesn’t want it and stand by that.

    • Chafed

I’ll play devil’s advocate for a moment. How old is your wife, is she overweight, and does she have any comorbities?

    • Urthona

Honestly I’d just get it. The risk of anything is probably low.

But not if they’re gonna make you. that’s some fascist bullshit.

      • hayeksplosives

If she does decide to take it, do the J&J. It’s a more traditional vaccine, not the mRNA stuff.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

that’s a misconception that I also had. The J&J is an adenovirus DNA vaccine, only different in the technology used to introduce the instructions to the ribosomes, the effect is the same.

As to which is safer, I don’t know. I’d probably check trialsitenews for info, maybe Steve Kirsch.

      • Urthona

Yeah whatever he just said about ribosomes. sounds smart.

    • Gustave Lytton

Not the chainsaw that decided to dump the entire bar oil reservoir in this hot weather and soaked through the cardboard mat I put down to catch drips. At least the gas cans aren’t leaking like I feared.

      • Gustave Lytton

Eff me. I can’t even thread correctly.

      • blackjack

I guess if it came down to it, i might use a chainsaw to get out of being forced to get vaxxed. Messy, but effective.

      • Urthona

Never apologize. If you just left it, I woulda spent 10 minutes trying to figure it out. And that’s awesome.

    • blackjack

They are kinda soft pressuring me to get it at work. I’m still holding out. Nobody can make you take it. Honestly, i’m not all that worried about taking it. I just resent being forced to take an eperimental drug for a disease i dont have and that won’t really hurt me to get. That, and the people pushing on me have been lying and cheating the whole way. The upside of being forced or mandated to take it is, you can sue the party pushing it on you. Volunteer and there nothing you can do.

      • Urthona

I think the younger you are the less eager you should be to take it.

    • EvilSheldon

To quote the Reddit Progressive brigade, “‘No.’ is a complete sentence.”

    • Loveconstitution1789

      She is considering pregnancy.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Honestly, I would tell an employer that if they bug me about it or try to force me, Im suing them.

I would imply that I had an uncle whos a lawyer and wants to test this all the way to the SCOTUS. Watch the supervisor squirm. Legal actions can costs corporations millions and forcing employees to take an expedited vaccine for the coof is not a sure win for companies.

Plus, what jury is not going to side with a lady who wants to get pregnant but is scared because soulless corporation is trying to hurt her baby? They charge assaults on pregnant ladies as two crimes because fetus.

    https://www.oregonlive.com/wildfires/2021/07/arrests-threatened-if-people-dont-evacuate-as-southern-oregons-bootleg-fire-explodes.html

This is the first time I’ve heard about threatening arrests for failing to leave. Not being allowed back in once you leave, yes. So much for the sheriff and his minions as more responsive to “the people”. And fuck them with a rusty chainsaw for “hampering firefighting”. Those assholes want unrestricted freedom to do whatever they want and protecting homes is a distant second. Last year’s fires proved once again that “professionalization” means no amateurs or volunteers wanted even though they can do a damn good job and actually give a shit.

    • Trigger Hippie

‘Last year’s fires proved once again that “professionalization” means no amateurs or volunteers wanted even though they can do a damn good job and actually give a shit.’

The Revolution Will Not Be Credentialized!

Shit, I think I misquoted that.

    • Spudalicious

They can’t force a homeowner out, no matter how much they threaten. All they can do is gather information on your next of kin, and move on.

      • Gustave Lytton

That’s how it’s always been before. Now the sheriff is threatening arrests for failing to comply. The twitter comments for the story are as expected. Statist felators agreeing with this. “They’re putting firefighters at risk because the state has to save them. Whether they want it or not.”

      • Trigger Hippie

‘“They’re putting firefighters at risk because the state has to save them. Whether they want it or not.”’

I thought the Supreme Court established that the state’s public services aren’t equired to do a damn thing if they don’t want to.

      • Gustave Lytton

They aren’t actually responsible for the specifics. It’s just an excuse for government action to do what they want to do. Just like after the heat wave here, it’s now up to the state to prevent future deaths.

  20. Fourscore

OK, OK, I’ll send in some personal adventure stuff, bore everyone to death. do we get paid by the word?

I fucking hope so, I haven’t heard from my accountant since I sent her all my paperwork back in February. I should probably call her.

      • TARDis

You rich people and your accountants.

        she forgot about me

Nah, she ratted you out to feds. Get a lawyer.

That blows (no pun intended.) The unit appears to be in one piece. Hopefully that means it can be reinstalled and you don’t have to order another unit.

      • Raven Nation

Yeah, the installation company’s service guy took a look yesterday and THINKS the only broken is the fan shroud. But the can’t know for sure until they run it (power was out until late last night).

  21. straffinrun

      I’m already offended.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

Ok, I laughed at that one. Made me think of a few of my relatives.

  22. hayeksplosives

Ok, I’ll bite. Here are some topics I could write about if there is interest.

    1. Why do I still want to work in the defense sector? This could get interesting because many of you have served in the military and/or government jobs of one flavor or the other. Have to be careful about doxxing though.
    2. Pragmatic libertarianism. When is it ok to ally with Rand Paul (R-Ky) to help achieve libertarian goals? What about Ted Cruz? How do we show our support for one issue but not another? Leaving aside candidates, how else do we get our values out there being discussed?
    3. Religion, specifically Judeo-Christian thought, traditions, and philosophy. Is it compatible with Liberty? In our world, is it essential for liberty?
    4. Related to 3., The Apocalypse. Is it literally going to happen, or was it a forward thinking analysis/warning of the co-opting of pseudoreligion to control the masses?
    5. The Heliand Saxon gospel, written over a thousand years ago to introduce Christianity to the northern Germanic tribes. Not so much a translation as a retelling in the Nordic epic style, like Beowulf.

I would be interested in all of them, but especially no. 2. That is something I have had on my mind lately.

      • hayeksplosives

Yeah, I don’t want to just be the equivalent of a conscientious objector.

J want to put some checks on things that are happening.

Ron Paul was never going to get the pres nomination but he did change the debate topics

I also think getting the American public to reject the MSM version of events would be quite helpful,

My thoughts too. Something historical I am completely ignorant of, and something electrical which I work(ed) with.

Write about everything. It will get published.

People will read it or not. People will comment on it or not.

There will always be someone that reads and comments on what you wrote.

      1. I spent my entire career, Air Force, then post college, working as a contractor to the USG until retirement. Toward the end I got so jaded with the Feds that I hated my job (and basically myself) until I could get out. Next life I’m going to choose a political stand and *then* choose a career.

      2. Choose your friends as well as your enemies. Don’t let “perfect” dissuade you from “good enough”

      4. I think that the Book of Revelations is related to the Roman occupation and is not some vision of the future.

      5. Don’t know anything about it so no comment.

As for number 1, that is why massive govt spending is so insidious: it gets people hooked on govt money (either in pay or welfare) and they prioritize taking care of their families over an abstract principle. I don’t blame people for making that choice. Especially after the govt schools have propagandize them for a decade or so. The cycle will be broken one way or another.

      • Fourscore

My family was poor during the Depression, I heard every day after I was old enough to get a “Government Job” ’cause they never get laid off. I did my time in the Army, never got laid off but after that knew I didn’t want a government job.

Took a long time for that mentality to leave but after libertarianism discovered me I was free at last, free at last.

    • Trigger Hippie

‘3. Religion, specifically Judeo-Christian thought, traditions, and philosophy. Is it compatible with Liberty? In our world, is it essential for liberty?’

That could be interesting. I seem to remember a few people during TOS days argue that Judeo-Christian philosophy is not only compatible but the basis for the Western concept of liberty(we’re all equally sinners before God, therefore we should all be equal under the law or something roughly along that line of thought).

  23. hayeksplosives

In completely unrelated news, the hubs snd I went out for lunch. I was the designated driver; he drank the pitcher of margaritas that Is standard at this place. Plus a couple of tequila shots.

Then we stopped by the golf club that is 1/8th mile from our house and he had a couple of fireballs and at least 4 cocktails.

We got home just an hour ago snd he took a pill that has 25mg THC.

That should be enough to tranq a rhino, so I get to sneak off and apply for another job in an hour or so,

    Winning!

    • Trigger Hippie

‘…he took a pill that has 25mg THC.’

I can eat a 100mg gummy made from weed with a 30% THC potency and after two hours feel nothing.

      Edibles are wasted on me.

      *shrugs*

  24. Ozymandias

I’m just starting on a full-length libertarian dystopia kinda novel. I’ve got a rough outline.
I would be willing to do it as a weekly serialized piece here if there’s interest.
I need to do some more roughing it out before I can get a sense of how long, probably similar to that piece Animal did, but more “chapters,” I think. (At least as it sits in my head right now).

    • kinnath

      I am interested.

      • Ozymandias

        Thread fail.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Story boards are your friend if you serialize, other wise you get off in a direction and forget the overall plot…

      • Ozymandias

That’s exactly what I’m thinking about, Yusef.
I might need a couple of weeks to get it pretty tightly plotted and then get going.
I’ve already got a couple of sections in early draft… I think a couple of weeks and I could have it ready and take a crack at filling up a regular weekly slot.
Would be great exercise for my writing muscles.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

Loved your anthrax book, will read anything that you publish.

Ozy! Welcome to the area! I hope you, Mojo, the rest of the area Glibs and I can meet up sometime over the next few months.

Also, Libertesian, who lives not far from me, and LJW, who is in OP or Olathe, I think.

    • Urthona

No such thing as libertarian dystopian.

The government collapses and… turns out everything is mostly fine.

    • Akira

I’m just starting on a full-length libertarian dystopia kinda novel.

I’ve started numerous outlines for such projects, but the “crazy dystopia” that I envision keeps happening in real life.
You’re a badass writer though, so your imagination can probably outpace the authoritarianism.

  25. Ozymandias

  28. one true athena

Anybody have any requests for TV reviews? I used to do the Television WIthout Pity Style reviews in a former life, but I don’t know what would interest people. First episode of reboot Woke Gossip Girl for the laughs? Something more serious?

    • robc

Pick up where woke charmed left off?

      • one true athena

I mean, if people would be interested?

But maybe something like a first watch of The Expanse? I know some here have seen it, but I haven’t, so y’all can make fun of me in the comments if I get something wrong?

      • zwak

        Yeah, go for it.

      • Trigger Hippie

I’d be interested. If for no other reason than the Woke Charmed Reviews were a guilty pleasure of mine. An ex back in the mid 00’s made watch GG with her on occasion. I can’t even imagine how insufferable the reboot will be. Probably something along the lines of the most privileged people on Earth being perpetually aggrieved by micro aggressions. The poor things.

  29. The Hyperbole

I’d listen to more Gunsmoke shows and write more about how Marshal Dillon is a capital “A” asshole but I think I’ve already won that argument. Maybe I should take on The Cisco Kid or Paladin or Britt Ponset, compare how they as non-government agents handled the killers and the spoilers.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

      Dillon was an asshole.

Paladin sought out non-violent solutions (in general) so he is (IMO) a non-asshole.

    • egould310

      Paladin yeah.

  30. rhywun

This Heineken commercial with everyone at the bar masked up and terrified of each other makes me angry.

    That is all.

    • zwak

I haven’t seen that. I did see one telling me to get edumatated aboot the Voxine.

      • rhywun

It shows two dude-bros crab-walking past each other in what appears to be the hallway leading to the can, trying to maintain six feet but there’s only like four feet between them. But first one of them is gesturing to the other to exit the hallway first because apparently the first dude-bro is too chickenshit or a sociopath or something.

The whole thing is a pathetic propaganda piece buttering up idiots for a “happy new normal”. You know all the hipsters are wearing shit-eating grins under their diapers.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        *googles*

That is so fucking pathetic. Effeminate twats afraid of their own shadow is now a selling point.

    • Urthona

I think Urban liberals are cute. I want to pat them on the head.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        With a hammer?

    • Trigger Hippie

Heineken is a gross, skunky beer anyway. Don’t be concerned if the people who drink it are insufferable, it’s baked into the product.

      *puts on fighting mitts*

      • Urthona

You know it’s a “diverse” commercial, but somehow everyone is still ultra white.

      • zwak

About a dozen years ago, there was one black guy who showed up in every commercial. But he was the most milquetoast looking dude that my wife and I started referring to him as SBD, sensitive black dude.

        Dude was soooo white.

      • rhywun

Did he have short, spiky dreadlocks? I see that guy in all these commercials where hipsters are hanging out with their cool black friend.

      • zwak

Naw, it was a medium ‘fro. Hip but not precocious.

      • Trigger Hippie

You know what? I’m trying really hard to think of somebody I’ve seen in real life who drank Heineken that’s darker than the shade “High Yellow” and just can’t think of anybody.

      • l0b0t

DUDE! When I helmed the drive-thru window at a Tallahassee beer store in the mid-’90s, our Sunday business was largely Georgia residents avoiding the dry laws of the Peach State. The two most common questions – “Lemme get a deuce-deuce of Heineken” and “What do mean, you don’t sell fourties?”

    • EvilSheldon

Oh sweet fucking Enkidu, I saw that commercial while out at the bar yesterday. It’s a new place that just opened up four blocks from my house, so I managed to restrain myself from throwing a mug through the TV…

  31. Urthona

    Go Cuba

  32. leon

I’ve some things i could write up. Maybe another review.

  33. straffinrun

I’d like to write an article about how to tangentially refer to another comment in order to tell a story about myself.

    • kinnath

      go on

      • straffinrun

Funny you’d mention “go on” because this one time I did this thing and then this happened and I was all WTF?

  34. zwak

OT, but I just saw a stupid vax commercial. And it got me thinking that the only reason they are pushing it at this point, (and seriously, the nurse in the commercial was going on about getting back to normal, which is where we are right now, basically) but the reason is that Biden/Harris need to be able to point to something they accomplished, anything at this point.

But they aren’t getting it, are they.

    • Gustave Lytton

The PR campaign is always behind. It’s been the same commercial since before Gov Shitstain bestowed her benevolence upon the unwashed state. They still have those stupid mask billboards up.

      • Gustave Lytton

YouTube mixes in the firefighter from Pendleton or LaGrande.

    • Loveconstitution1789

Dont forget that the Lefties have to smooth over the fact that states like Georgia never had lockdowns or mask mandates and business has boomed this last year.

Lefties want to say the vaccine worked not natural immunities or antibodies. Government saved us will be the narrative.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Remember less than 10% of Americans ever showed symptoms of kungflu. <1% died.

I either got it or I didnt but havent been sick in over two years. I Interact with people almost every day and dont wear a mask.

      • Akira

        <1% died.

And even that is puffed up with deaths that can’t actually be chalked up to COVID, like:
        – People who were already actively dying
        – Had COVID months ago, cleared it, and died of something else later
        – Died of gunshot wounds or car accident and tested positive for COVID

      • zwak

That’s kinda what I am saying, but with the topspin of not having anything else. This admin has fucked up every. single. thing. and need something to pull out of the tailspin.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Yes. Ponder that one. They are willing to push experimental medical treatments in order to further their political narrative.

Pulled the hummingbird out of storage. Tuned it up and it is so jangly. I’d been playing a vintage Harmony and the neck is so wide and the action is so high my fingers were getting worked out; hard. Now I’m flying up and down the neck of the hummingbird. And it’s jangly.

    • Chafed

      Phrasing?

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Tuning the hummingbird too often will make you go blind from what I’ve heard.

‘Morning Glibs. another shiny day ahead, Here’s hoping….

    • Yusef drives a Kia

      Howdy U, feelin better?

      • UnCivilServant

        Pretty well.

Early morning is always the worst because I don’t get up for the midnight dose of the ‘every six hours’ pin pills. But it does give me a good idea of where the pain level is without them. And that level is not that bad. It would still discourage the level of activity I need in order to properly recover, so I take the pills.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning U, Yu, & Sean.

      • UnCivilServant

The inner voice in my mind pronounces words as I read them so in my head that read “You, you, and Sean”

      • Gender Traitor

As always, very happy to hear your pain is diminishing.

        Agreed Gt, howdy!

Main gotta-do at work this week is to send out yet another revision of our “working remotely agreement” to all my co-workers who WFH. We’re poised to start withholding local tax based on where they’re really doing the work. I’ll have to send a list of the addresses involved to our payroll processor to set the corresponding local tax jurisdictions as “locations” in our payroll system so I can switch each employee over to that location in time for the start of next pay period, which begins a week from today. Unless something else changes.

    • rhywun

That’s interesting. I had to pay taxes last year to a state I never set foot in, because that’s where the office I was assigned to is located.

      • Gender Traitor

We’ve been doing it that way, but my boss got wind of some successful lawsuits by WFHers who wanted withholding based on where they really worked.

      • rhywun

        ?

        *takes notes*

Probably wouldn’t help anyway, since the amount just gets deducted from the amount I already owe the state I live in.

  38. Gender Traitor

***SIGH!!!*** One of the cats was walking across my cluttered “work table” and got a small plastic bag, such as are used to package small items for shipping, stuck to one of the claws on a back foot. Stinker wouldn’t stop kicking and swatting long enough for me to try to get it off. I finally cut off most of it, but now I have two holes in the back of my hand…and he still has a little bit of plastic skewered onto one claw. 🙁

    • UnCivilServant

      Ungrateful fluffballs.

Hope you got the hand bandaged

      • Gender Traitor

I washed the “wounds,” which are tiny and not actively bleeding. After I do my morning clean-up, I’ll apply some triple-antibio and maybe a couple of “spot” band-aids.

We keep a wide variety of adhesive bandages on hand. I just remembered why.

      • Festus

        Hydrogen peroxide is your friend!

  39. Stinky Wizzleteats

They’re making a list and checking it twice:

    https://www.lakecountyil.gov/DocumentCenter/View/39074/CHA-Doorknocking-Info-and-Script

“Report on your work! Be sure to fill out the Doorknocking Spreadsheet with the counts of who still needs a vaccine, who is already vaccinated, who needs more info, etc. This is important information that the Health Department is relying on!”
Your no soliciting sign won’t save you either as one of the listed instructions is to ignore them. Eat a dick you assholes.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

No trespassing is the legal line. Note that they don’t tell them to ignore that one.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The list thing is particularly worrisome to me as I’d imagine this will be typical of what’s being done. Either lie, or be noncommittal if your principles get in the way, if these douchebags come knocking. I suppose not answering the door’s an option too.

      • Gender Traitor

Not answering the door is my standard operating procedure…especially on Saturday mornings.

I need one of those “Come back with a warrant” doormats.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

Ignore them, tell them to leave, etc…

I’ve instructed my kids not to answer the door.

I’ve also pondered calling the sheriff if they refuse to leave immediately. I’m not putting up with this bullshit.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

As long as you have a sheriff that’s hostile to the idea. If he isn’t you could end up on two lists.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I believe I do, but I’ll be asking him about it beforehand.

      • Sean

“You’re trespassing. I’m calling the cops, asshole.”

        *slams door*

I’ve done it before. I’ll do it again.

    • Gender Traitor

Have fun! This is an amazing thing you’re doing.

      ::feels blood pressure rising::

    • EvilSheldon

One of the first rules of personal security is, “Don’t open a door until you know exactly who’s on the other side of it.” If you don’t have a door camera setup, this is a pretty good excuse to get one.

    https://golf.com/news/bubba-watson-vaccine-covid-british-open-wd/

    Vaccines don’t work, apparently.

The two-time Masters champion announced Sunday morning on Twitter that he has been forced to withdraw from golf’s final major due “to having direct exposure who someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.” He will be replaced by Brendan Steele.

    • Festus

That news is Faber College writ large. Of course they replaced Bubba with a guy named Brendan Steele.

    • rhywun

I would imagine that about 99.9% of Americans have had “direct exposure [with] someone who has tested positive for Covid-19” at this point.

      • Sean

I had to move a covid corpse just to back out of my driveway this morning.

    • hayeksplosives

That’s a pretty damning statement on the pointlessness of the vaccine.

Q: Why get it if you’re in a group where your risk of dying from Covid is vanishingly small?

A: (grumble) At least I can keep my job and get back to normal if I get the stoopid vaxx.

Q: Are you vaccinated? PSYCH! Doesn’t matter; you’re fucked either way because contact tracing, Sorry you can’t play for the million dollar kitty.

      • Festus

Yep. Moving toward a caste society. Wear the ribbon!
