noun
1. a gaming, lifting, shooting, intoxicated, ravenous, and happily-taken nerd.
2. often aims to misbehave.
3. and though she be but little, she is fierce.*
And rumor has it that she (and her husband) are also delightful dinner companions. You didn't hear it from me, though.
“”As part of their ongoing efforts to address climate change…the credit would be lower for companies with non-unionized workers (such as Tesla) and for companies building EVs outside the US.”
So it’s all just political bullshit.
I think the federal tax code is longer than the Vedas and Talmud combined? Regardless, it’s way to complicated for anyone to know what it does. It’s also spread out over so many laws it’s politically impossible to get rid of it and start from scratch.
It really does seem to be a Gordian knot situation, but it’s a hell of a knot.
That is an apt metaphor. In the same way that the Gordian knot could not be untied, but was undone by being cut through with a sword, so too the tax code (and entire federal legal code, honestly) cannot be fixed through incremental reform but must be replaced wholesale.
Ding ding!
Any tax “reform” that doesn’t start with “The Internal Revenue Code and all regulations passed to implement are hereby repealed in their entirety” is, at best, missing most of the opportunities for reform.
And is most likely a scam.
Is all that law in the same part of the US Code? Are all the regulations in the same titles of CFR? Just even seeking out everywhere it touches would be a Herculean effort.
The IRC is a distinct part of the code, and the regs are their own part of the Federal Register.
Don’t know, and don’t care, how other parts of the code or the register might be affected. If it fucks up some other laws, well, tough.
I like that, actually. We should copy and paste that exact text to as many sympathetic scum (aka politicians) as we can, repeatedly, and see if it gains any footing.
The rest of the bill would be a new tax code, of course.
But we could certainly shed the decades of crony deals and economic distortion embodied in the current one.
Yeah, I thought that was a nice touch of shameless assholery from the Dems.
yep
If you were to take the rest of the article away and just quote that single line, would anyone in this country truly feel that there’s merit to this? My hope is no. But put the whole article together, and some will read it and go “yeah dammit! this is what we need!”
Hence the power of the media. As much as we here all hate it, dammit they have so much power.
They have a lot of power, but not so much as they pretend. Trump would have never won in the first place, and the entire populace would be vaccinated and hiding indoors right now if the media had the influence it sometimes seems they have, when reading the media.
I truly hope you’re right. They have no power over us, but we here are…. How do I say this?…. A little more ASTUTE than your average American. Hopefully the BS is apparent even to joe Six-Pack.
I remember playing video games. I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it.
You could get a part time job cleaning houses and get paid for it.
Right? Just look at Winston’s Mom.
A lot depends on the game. Through the lockdowns, I have picked up Magic the Gathering again (just in digital form, which is much cheaper).
I picked up LOTRO during the lockdowns, but the pup is taking up all of my time, and will continue to do so until the fence is complete.
Pics or it didn’t happen
I recently lost my best friend of 14 years and I know someday I have to bring a new pupper into my world. Seeing others pups warms my heart and reminds me I’m not betraying my sweet girl’s memory by adopting a new baby.
I cannot STAND to be alone in the house without a kitty soul in it too. Cat doesn’t have to snuggle. Hell, it doesn’t even have to like me. I just need to have a kitty soul somewhere close to me. Every time our cats get old and then die, I say, no more cats. It hurts too much. Being without a cat hurts more.
So, my partner used to travel a lot for work and I didn’t. So one day out of the blue I got surprised with as tiny white fluffy pupper, to keep me company when I was home alone. And over the ensuing years, she became they greatest friend we ever had. When she was 14, she finally left us due to kidney failure; this was only weeks ago, and one of the hardest days I’ve ever had.
When I think about the worst parts, it’s the lack of the “click click click” of her nails on the tile when she walks, the lack of barking when Amazon drops a box outside, and the knowledge that while her soul might be clicking around in my soul, it isn’t clicking around in my home, when I’m all alone.
So I’m right there with you Mojeaux, I feel ya….
Yep, exactly. You don’t notice the ambient noise they make until they don’t make it anymore.
Sorry for your loss. It’s a blow every time.
When I lost my long time (16 years!) buddy cat, I was devastated. I had dreaded it for years before. But I have the good memories, and I love my other cats too.
But I really do miss him trotting alongside me wherever I went in the house, and plopping on his back for belly rubs.
I have one cat who’s a little tetched in the head. She’s a long-hair and likes to have her sides and belly scrubbed (hard, with fingernails), but she flops over out of arm’s reach and you have to go to her. She hasn’t yet learned that if she wants scrubs, she has to flop over where we can reach her.
Know that feeling db…. Bro hug. Plus….
+1 some game I played once at some other kids house which had like a plan view of what was happening, and you were a king of some sort which didn’t seem to really matter because whoever you were you went round and solved problems to proceed farther around the map. I have no idea what the game was but it seemed pretty good.
Alien Trilogy on the PS was another game I liked to play at other folks’ houses (I didn’t have a PS), and I’m pretty sure I played it or something very similar at an arcade and totally owned it. Looking into it, it doesn’t seem there was an arcade version, but it was right around the same time. Definitely a similar Alien game at the arcade.
I’m older than I wish to admit, and I’ve played games since I was younger than I should have been, for more hours than I care to count, and still do to this day.
And I truly have and still do enjoy it. Everything in moderation of course, but, wade through the bullshit, and it really is a great “timewaste” leisure activity.
Yep, still love gaming, but not a “gamer”. I play “casual” games which really just means I don’t spend hours at a time at it.
I decided the other day that the “golden age of gaming” – at least as far the PC goes – was around 2000-2004. There are probably more games now, but somehow there is less variety. And some kinds of games just aren’t made any more, I presume because all the brainpower has gone into shitty mobile derpbait.
See: Konami going from Silent Hill to Silent Hill Pachinko. It’s horrible. There are so few single player experiences out there right now, and they’ll be extinct in a few years. God of War was probably the last great game ever made. There’s another one coming, but I’ve heard it’s going to be so woke it’ll be unplayable.
Thank God for physical media — it’ll be the last thing I remember about great gaming.
The single player genre isn’t going away, as there’s still a market for it. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order came out after God of War and was a well-received single-player game that sold very well (over 10 million copies), and I know that Cyberpunk 2077 was a much anticipated single-player game that sold very well despite being apparently a disappointment.
Also, making God of War woke would be a major shift, as that has been one of the most un-woke series I’ve ever played (it seems to revel in violence and sex and the player character is clearly not a good guy).
I’ve loved the GoW series for masterful set pieces, memorable boss battles, nudity and sex, but mostly for doing some of the most vile, nauseating things you could ever do to other living creatures.
But after the Last of Us 2 debacle, genius Cory Barlog started crowing really loudly about SJW shit:
http://archive.today/y6ZcB
Started talking, like Eddie Murphy, about how he would never do the stuff that made him rich and famous, in today’s climate (funny how that works, right? Make it rich being an actual person, then try to change the whole world once you r millions are in the bank?)
Anyway, he can never erase his old games, and thank God for that, but I fear for the next god of War, It will be the first the one that I won’t buy on release day, and might not ever buy at all unless I hear really good things.
Uffda. That kid goes a long way to try to justify his subsidized electric car doesn’t he?
Subsidies or not, we’re fucked unless we start cutting spending. And it sure looks like we are never going to do that.
Those guys are the epitome of “technically correct, but…”.
They know damn well that in the real world, spending is NOT going to be cut and that tax credit IS going to be replaced by extracting more money from the rest of us.
Plus just how &#@%ing green is it to mine the rare earth metals for 100m battery packs? So &@#&ing greeeeen bro! So eco-friendly!!1!11
Considering China has a corner on that market, and they have zero interest in environmental issues, I would agree with you. China is the biggest polluter on the planet, and here we are throwing barrels of money at their heavy industry.
What would *really* environmentally friendly look like? I’d say natural gas powered vehicles made in the US.
Indeed. I’m going to shamelessly pimp my old article on this subject, where I highlight the data (from the EU’s research department) that shows that not only does China produce nearly a third of global CO2 (which is nearly twice as much as the US produces), but they are also responsible for the greatest increase in CO2 production of any nation since the Paris climate treaty was signed. China clearly does not buy into the green fad, so if you are concerned with climate change the number one thing you would do is not buy anything made in China.
I’m sure the world will get right on that. ?
And that’s without dealing with the fact that solar panels and batteries are toxic waste. Which will really start hitting in volume in a few years.
Automotive batteries are for the most part, 100% recyclable. I have a buddy that rebuilds hybrid batteries and once you’ve done the dirty work of mining the raw materials, they are relatively easy to reuse/rebuild as long as they haven’t been damaged in an accident.
I was under the impression they definitely had a useful life, beyond which they had to be tossed. During that useful life, sure, they can be reused. Can he actually restore their useful life?
If they’re lithium-ion or lithium-polymer, they have a cycle life after which they’re toast.
I know. I’ve toasted some.
I guess there could be a way to recycle the materials used to make them.
That’s a good question. I’ll have to look into that further as now I’m curious. I will say, he spent a good amount coin on his set up and the product he is turning out has held up better than some of the big players such as Dorman. Basically, I give him a “bad” battery, and he gives me back the same battery a week later and it’s working like new again after what he refers to as “treatment” to the individual cells.
This isn’t how any of this works at all!
You can’r refurbich chemical compounds that have developed Dendrites,
Physics calls Bullshit.
You’d have to reverse the chemical reactions that caused them to be toast in the first place, or at the very least, use other chemical reactions to liberate all the good stuff and then further reactions to re-combine them in their “original” usable state. This would not be cheap, and certainly wouldn’t be an energy-free method. I have no details on the specifics, but I can guess. I would also guess that it’s not something you could do in a backyard, basement, small commercial shop or hobbyist’s bench. Lithium chemical reactions tend to be energetic.
Lithium metal reactions are. If it’s already at +1, you can tune the reaction quite a bit.
In any case the lithium should be completely extractable.
I don’t doubt the extractability, but rather the economics of doing so (as well as whether a one-man-band can do such a thing).
When the Altar Boys were smaller they loved Avatar. They made headbands with the symbol of Leaf village on them. Then I would tell them I was from Rake Town and wrestle with them.
It was fun, but they’d get frustrated because Avatar didn’t have a Rake Town and I was too dumb to know that.
There is no war in Ba Sing Se.
Uffda. That kid goes a long way to try to justify his subsidized electric car doesn’t he?
Just pull the plug(!) on all that bullshit. If you want a glorified golf cart, buy one. Be prepared to pay what it costs to build the stupid thing, though.
That’s going to make funneling cash to your “green” pals a bit more difficult, though.
Re: the photo of the cast. Is it just standard now to include pronouns for the actors? Because I tune out anything I see where pronouns are included (it’s pretty easy. If it’s a biological man, HIM, biological woman, HER. While I respect anyone’s right to call himself whatever he wants, I’ve chosen to enslave myself to my primary language.)
If this starts happening with movies, I’m going to switch off even more than I already do, and eventually, I won’t be able to watch anything more modern than Twin Peaks. Not that there’s anything wrong with that….
If that happens, I guess that will preclude any future movies like “The Crying Game”, as it will spoil the surprise.
Stargate:
Kurt Russell: He/Him, Colonel Jonathan ‘Jack’ O’Neil
James Spader: He/Him, Dr. Daniel Jackson
Viveca Lindfors: She/Her, Catherine Langford
Jaye Davidson: What the/Fuck, Ra
Speaking of which, Jaye was great in Crying Game, good as he could be in Stargate (dialogue was dubbed over by another actor)…. But then he left movies in 1994! What happened?
Totally uninformed guess:
AIDS.
Hellfire. As good a guess as any.
Alright, I wikied him. That wasn’t it. Didn’t like the movie biz, made a decent chunk of change on Stargate, and now does occasional modeling.
I recall he didn’t like the fame.
OK this is interesting:
The character’s “big secret” left an indelible impression on surprised audiences and has since become one of the most talked about movie twists.
Highly uncomfortable with the fame and attention that followed, the shy Davidson vowed to never act again. So when he was offered the role of alien god Ra in Roland Emmerich’s Stargate (1994), he demanded an unreasonable fee of $1 million to do it, which backfired when it was accepted.
Davidson hardly considers himself an actor. Also, he doesn’t do so so well with the spotlight. And so it came as no surprise when he called it quits in 2009 to pursue a different career — modeling. But that wouldn’t stop the paparazzi from trailing him. Since retiring, Davidson has morphed from his famous androgynous looks into a masculine build; as he now rocks tattoos and has since ‘gymed’ out his muscles
Look at this photo, man.
Oooops.
Edit fairy can help here. I keep trying to post a link and it doesn’t work.

No idea which one is which but I’ll just let loose with a “gross”. I hate tatts.
He has massive cover-up tatts – solid black is a cover-up. Now I’m curious about just how bad those decisions were.
Currently in Gettysburg, PA returning my son to school. I think I saw a total of three masks being worn and zero in the restaurant where we had lunch.
This compares to Essex County NJ where I think the numbers are one out of three and far disproportionately black, brown and Asian.
I can’t wait to get out of NJ.
“[…] Far disproportionately black, brown and Asian. I can’t wait to get out of NJ.”
Online commentator Sensei admits to being a racists with ties to white supremacist groups and anti-Fuaci/SCIENCE radicals. – This is CNN
He who shall not be named also spent time in Gettysburg without a mask.
Don’t forget there were 50,000 casualties in Gettysburg the last time a huge group of guys didn’t wear masks.
“EXCLUSIVE: Is this the proof that Ilhan Omar married her own brother to bypass US immigration rules? Conservative group’s DNA test from ‘congresswoman’s cigarette butt’ purports to show 99.99% match to her second husband Ahmed Elmi
In the late 2000s Elmi (pictured) appeared in Minneapolis, said Somali blogger Abdihakim Osman. ‘People began noticing that Ilhan and [Hirsi] were often with a very effeminate young guy. He was very feminine in the way he dressed — he would wear light lipstick and pink clothes and very short shorts in the summer. People started whispering about him. [Hirsi] and Ilhan told me it was Ilhan’s brother'”

No one at USCIS could tell he’s gay?
I’m rolling my eyes at this one.
ummmm…
A real parade of our best and brightest.
One isn’t a 99.99% match to any sibling who isn’t an identical twin.
I think they meant 99.99% chance that they’re siblings, not that they share 99.99% of their DNA
“The increasing demand by local governments and businesses that people must show proof they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 to go to restaurants, gyms and enter businesses has created a black market for fake cards and some are selling for as much as $400.
Most are being sold on Telegram, an encrypted site that is favored among people who don’t trust typical Silicon Valley giants like Facebook and Twitter.
On Telegram, people can buy vaccine cards that are approved by the CDC or NHS in Britain for between $25 and $400.”

“HA HA I’m using the internet.”
Oh great, now they’ll crack down on Telegram like they cracked down on Parler.
I don’t understand this. You can print out and make your own easily.
You know, it’s hard to find someone with a lower opinion of the Democratic Party than me, and even I can’t believe they’re going to continue running this same playbook:
But not 2020?
Funny how in 2016, Russians hacked the election machines. But in 2020, those same machines were perfectly secure. Notice how they changed it to “interfere” instead of “hacking” this time around. Apparently we need to crack down on free speech, but not ensure that voting machines are secure and there is no election fraud.
“New intelligence reports indicate that the Democrats are going to get their asses handed to them in the 2022 election.”
I was just thinking, “This reeks of a desperation play. The DNC’s internal polling must be in the dumpster.”
It’s laughably transparent.
I’m not laughing.
“A Serbian hermit who lives in a cave has received his Covid-19 vaccine after he discovered the pandemic was raging – and has encouraged anti-vaxxers to get the jab too.
Panta Petrovic, 70, only discovered there was a pandemic when he ventured out of his tiny mountain cave home and visited the nearby town of Pirot last year.
But despite choosing social distancing as a lifestyle choice, Petrovic got jabbed as soon as Covid-19 vaccines became available.
[The virus] does not pick. It will come here, to my cave, too’, the 70-year-old said in his cave on the forested Stara Planina mountain in southern Serbia.
Petrovic said he ‘doesn’t understand the fuss’ some vaccine sceptics make, and underlined that he believes in a process that aims to eradicate diseases.
‘I want to get all three doses, including the extra one. I urge every citizen to get vaccinated, every single one of them.'”

OFFS!
Reminds me of that story every one of us heard on the first day of chemistry class. “I had a student once who had a beaker blow up, and a piece of glass hit right in front of her eye. And she said, Mr. Graves (his real name) I sure am glad I wore my safety goggles!”
The shop teachers always had a better story, they just held up their mangled hands and said, “this is what happens if you aren’t careful with the machines.”
Just call me Mister Butterfingers.
Why would you doubt Hermetic SCIENCE!
I wouldn’t listen to that guy’s advice on, well, anything.
Plus just how &#@%ing green is it to mine the rare earth metals for 100m battery packs? So &@#&ing greeeeen bro! So eco-friendly!!1!11

“In the blog post, Lim also explained why he felt compelled to take on the adaptation, and the hesitation he felt on translating something as cherished as Avatar: The Last Airbender into live action, which did not go well in the past.”
The Avatar cartoon was a great television program – even though it was targeted at kids it was still well written enough to be entertaining and engaging for adults. I think adaptation is going to be difficult, but adapting to a live-action television program is a much better move than trying to adapt to a movie. It looks like they did a decent job at casting so far (at least with people who look the part, hopefully their acting is up to par), but the real problem with the movie Shyamalan did was not the casting per se (although a couple of actors were wooden) but rather the writing and direction and the inherent difficulties in abridging material. I have concerns with the Netflix show given that the original creators left it, and from the article linked there is also some concern that the new show-runners may mess with the formula/story too much in order to put their own mark on things.
More room is not necessarily a good thing in adaptation, especially when the original seemed really well paced. See Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” trilogy for how expanding on source material can reduce the quality of an adaptation.
It had some clever moments.
Currently in Gettysburg, PA returning my son to school.
That is a beautiful area. All those stone houses and barns.
Plus the hills.
Also gives you a sense of scale just how big the battle there was.
Our Colorado house is under contract. We’ll come out the far end of that process mortgage-free. And I was just offered a new project, sixteen to twenty-four months, at a generous hourly rate. I will start immediately on the end of the old one, in two weeks.
Our financial situation suddenly looks much brighter than it did when we woke up this morning. Take that, Friday the 13th!
Congrats!
I got married on Friday the 13th.
My niece did the same. Today as a matter of fact!
Good for you and your Missus.
Nice!
Congrats

It’s a Friday, and the new Dark Ages do have some new traditions. Including Zoom/Happy Hour/Article planning items that kick off at 20:00 Eastern.
Thanks.
Appreciate you stepping up last weekend while I was out and about.
Instead, she took one of her sharp utensils and stuck in the crocodile’s eye, New Indian Express reports.
Good.

??!?!?!
Signed in for my evening shift, and all hell has broken loose at work, Afghanistan-wise.
I’m going to need at stiff drink later
/looks at the post calendar
Well… it may help, but there’s at least a week lead time on that. But if you tell me what you have, I can provide suggestions.
Kraken and Pepsi
Well, I think that limits the cocktail selection. 🙂
I prefer ginger as a mixer for dark rum personally. The girlfriend will use any pop as a mixer, some have sounded terrifying.
I have more, but not much. I have vodka, rye, bourbon, and a couple of Malibus (Coconut & Pineapple). I have 1 shot of gin left.
I also have Kahlua, Grand Marnier, Blue Curacao, Maraschino liqueur, Creme de violette.
Mixers are Pepsi, grenadine (the real kind), passion fruit syrup, orgeat, sparkling water, milk.
SEXY BLUE DRINK!!!!!!!
When I was a child, there was a medicine the color of blue Curacao and it was deeeeeeeelish. I can almost still taste it (no, it wasn’t grape, and Idon’t think it was Dimetapp). Still trying to figure out what that was.
I bought a bottle but then I didn’t know WTF to do with it.
rhywun:
As l0b0t said, SEXY BLUE DRINKS.
If you go to a bar and order a blue drink, you’ll start seeing a large number of people ordering them, just because they look so pretty.
Some liquor bottles are gorgeous. I love pretty bottles and I’ve more than once been tempted to buy a bottle, pour the gunk out, and display the pretty bottle.
Are blue drinks your bag?
Then you should pick up a bottle of Empress 1908 gin.
Blackberries were on sale this week, so I have some that I’m contemplating doing a bourbon smash with, or as an addition to a Tom Collins.
You may be able to throw together an ersatz tiki drink with the Malibus, vodka, Curacao, and the grenadine/passion fruit syrup/orgeat.
I also have coconut milk, but I have had a bitch of a time emulsifying the cream into my drinks. Can’t figure out how to make it smooth n creamy. It’s always got chunks in it.
BTW, I don’t have a traditional blender. Just a hand/stick blender.
With my dislike of coconut, I can’t offer much help with coconut milk. Have you tried a dry shake with it (shaking the ingredients for ~30 seconds before adding ice)?
You don’t want coconut milk, you want coconut “cream”.
You know how you cream the butter and sugar together first so you don’t get bits of butter in cake batter?
That’s how Coco Lopez works.
Yeah, I shake the hell out of the can before using. And I run my drinks through with a stick blender. I think some of the problem may have been with organic coconut milk, which probably doesn’t have any emulsifiers. I have a can of the cheap grocery store brand – maybe I’ll give that a try.
Well the folks in DC have to craft multiple messages about how this 20 year disaster isn’t a disaster.
I just read we jumped from 3k military there to 8k to aid in evacuation.
But I’m sure this is all no need to worry.
We’re scrubbing all of our web properties of all but the the most general info. We had a lot of content that featured individuals and government officials. That’s all going down the memory hole. But I’m pretty sure someone in the Taliban can figure out how to use the Wayback machine.
https://youtu.be/-glKGjp50Ug
…. you trusted us.
This is an absolutely horrifying task. But I suppose it has to be done. I feel like any of the people in the stuff we’re scrubbing should be offered tickets on the first available transport off that rock if they want them.
Yeah, it seems like it would be consigning them to oblivion to delete all mention of their contributions. They deserve better from the country they risked a lot to assist.
Well, it’s for their safety that we’re deleting the stuff. But they should be offered the chance to get out if they want. Lots of the work had to do with women & girls’ education & entrepreneurship. The Taliban doesn’t like stuff like that.
I get why it’s being done, I just think they deserve more and better.
I agree
Better than being jailed or worse I suppose.
But as mentioned above it’s not like there isn’t an archive.
We never should have been there in the first place. What a giant fuck-up. Everyone who put us there and kept us there should be drawn and quartered.
Thirsty children (or Glibs) would be happy to take your gunk, Moj.

Not that it’s not possible but:

and
2. While the vaccinations don’t seem as effective as initially claimed that also doesn’t appear to be occurring upon breakthrough infection.

Dinner ? (sans firearm)
“sans firearm”
What is this madness?
Lo siento, I didn’t want to go track down the key to the firearm closet just to stage a photo, and the shotgun doesn’t fit on the counter.
photo tip: You dont need the whole gun in the photo, just a hint. Just include the receiver/trigger etc.
Subject (steak) should take up 50% or more of the photo and just a hint of the gun. Your photo of the steaks is great. All we need is a trigger guard/trigger and part of the receiver on the right side. Also, rule of thirds…put the gun at about 45 degrees to the cutting board.
I would return with a photo of my dinner but green beans and zoupo Tuscano are not very photogenic.
Looking good. Are you going reverse sear on it, or sous vide, or other?
A few years ago, I took a pic like that of a beautiful ribeye, a glass of red, and my 1941 Colt 1911. Can’t find it, though–I’ll have to restage one soon.
1911A1, natch.
They’re in the sous vide right now. I’ll fire up the cast iron here in a bit to get a good sear and melt a tab of butter on them.
The other sous vide stick is currently tasked with a brisket. After 27 hours, I’ll stick it on the Weber to give it 3 hours of smoke.
I need to try that with a brisket.
I’ve got half of a corned one sitting in the freezer that I need to sous vide. I’ve done ribs which came out quite good.
My playbook on the brisket experiment.
“…other sous vide stick…”
Get a load of Daddy Warbucks ovah here. TWO sous vide machines!*
*actually I have thought about getting another as well
*twirls monocle on its chain*
Actually, I got them for less than $50 each on Woot. Probably won’t last forever, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
After 27 hours, I’ll stick it on the Weber to give it 3 hours of smoke.
I just got a half a chub.
I saw a brisket in the meat cooler today as I was buying chicken thighs and ground turkey that was marked $3.95 a lb because it was close to rotten. The ground turkey rang up as “doughnuts priced to sell $2.97” which made me chuckle. The brisket was $87. That is a half cord of wood so I passed. Priorities.
Nice. I got a pair of bone in ribeyes to grill for dinner.
Me too. Good advice there.
“ Mr. Durham has been examining potential criminal charges against several lower-level FBI employees, and people who aren’t in government, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. Durham was also expected to deliver a report by the end of this summer, though that target is likely to be pushed back, some of the people said.”

Ah, the Durham Whitewash, err, Report. Why even bother releasing that steaming pile?
I find that I have to censor myself more and more.
people who aren’t in government
There it is. Nobody who is really responsible will pay any price, but they’ll jail some patsies who don’t matter to cover up their corruption. The important thing is, none of the King’s Men go to jail.
according to people familiar with the matter
Or its all bullshit.
“…according to people familiar with the matter…”
In other words Aruna Viswanatha and Sadie Gurman just pulled that out of their ass.
Anyone want an air-to-air missile?
Does it come with a Ju 88?
My husband won a trip to the NY premiere of The Last Airbender. It was fun, except for the going to see the movie part. In the bathroom after, ran into the little girl who played the female lead and introduced my daughter. She was very nice, but I didn’t remember her name then and I don’t remember it now.
Excellent.
*toots horn, throws confetti*
An “appraiser” from the bank is supposed to come look at my place Monday morning. For my buyer’s loan.
I hope for his sake he doesn’t piss me off. My expectations are pretty low, at this point.
all hell has broken loose at work, Afghanistan-wise.
Helicopters on the embassy roof?
Reading the news I’m expecting just that.
Very likely
TPTB fucked up going there, fucked up staying there and now they are fucking up leaving there. What a shocker. They cant figure out what shoe to put on what foot.
TPTB also fucked up by being asleep at the wheel and letting 9/11 happen. We were well within rights to go there and kill those who helped it happen, but that should have been measured in months not years.
Three absolutely major fuck ups by the Feds in twenty years, 9/11, the mortgage meltdown and now the Vid.
Well, I’m not convinced we’re leaving. We are more than doubling our troops in Afghanistan right now.
Yes, the geniuses at the Pentagon have decided to commit the mortal military sin of reinforcing defeat. This is the same crew that funded the Chinese bioweapons program, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
Insurance has approved surgery to cut these damned ulcers out. Other than not getting to see my friend, today’s been a pretty good day.
Nice
🙂
Yay! ? How soon can you get it done?
I’m sorry you didn’t get to see your friend. I hope she’s getting better.
So I forget who it was who called HR as the roadblock to my promotion, but that person was correct and then some.
HR bounced my first offer because they said I wasn’t qualified for the position. I have 16 years of relevant managerial experience, but no degree. They apparently did not notice all the experience on my resume, so the managers with whom I interviewed pointed it out and sent back the offer to HR.
HR bounced it again, this time saying that the jump from my current position to the new one is too large, by one step. The manager with whom I did my second interview said, “No problem, I’ll give him a mid-year promotion by one step, then we wants him.”
HR: “You’ve already submitted your mid-year promotions for this year, so in order to do that you’d have to take a promotion away from someone else.”
Manager: “Well that’s not feasible. So I’ll fire him for a week and we’ll take him in the new position.”
HR: “No, he’s got to be out of the company for longer than that.” (IIRC, it’s six months.)
Supposedly they are trying to find some other loophole to get me into the position, but they’ve reopened it to new applicants just in case. Hmm…
I’m no stranger to HR throwing roadblocks in the way, but we’re two weeks past when I was told I’d have some official word on this. It was also the end of a really hectic quarter, so the delay isn’t surprising. Still, I sent the first person with whom I interviewed an email this morning asking for clarification. It bothers me a bit that I have been left hanging with no official word on what’s been going on.
HR is becoming a menace at most companies of any size. IMO, you should take advantage of the seller’s market in labor and, at the very least, dangle a competing offer in front of HR’s nose.
^^^^
I am definitely looking around. I moved from NH to TX for the position I have right now, but moving back home would be nice.
That reminds me of DoomCo, who is sorely missed around these parts.
I was thinking about him yesterday and wondering where he went.
I used to have a rule against working for any company that had an HR department, or at least an HR department of any size. It makes it harder for the company to catch my harassment.
I wouldn’t mind moving in that direction, but my position tends to only exist at companies big enough to have HR departments.
At airport (SDF). West bound and down. I guess I need to load up with Coors before I come back.
East of the Mississippi, that is (was) bootlegging.
Mine would have been a funnier joke if I was flying Atlanta to Texarkana.

Chibi Robo was my favorite housecleaning game. A game totally lost to time. It should come back on the Switch.
Kabul apparently was estimated to be overrun in 3 months…then dramatically shifted to 30 days and now the State Department is in burn docs mode thinking they have 72 hours before the Taliban is there.
That is some old school blitzkrieg movement if true.
Or NVA. Same speeded up collapse as RVN.
With all the markers of funding and/or training and of course our hardware we left.
Fun fact. Jim Morrison’s dad was in command of the carrier group at the Gulf of Tonkin Incident and then over the Guam naval forces that processed the RVN evacuees/refugees.

It’s an easy blitzkrieg though. The Afghan army makes the 1940 French look like the 1940 Germans.
I made a call to my wood dealer for my fire wood yesterday. After telling the elderly curmudgeon of a woman what I wanted she asked in a raspy smokers voice, “are you a veteran?”. “Yes ma’am I am”. “Ok, I will knock five dollars off the price, and another five dollars off if you can pay cash, can you do that?” “Yes ma’am I can and thank you very much”.
Cash. The best loophole going! God bless my wood dealer!
The courageous FAA executives are leading the charge in vaccination attestation. Supposedly in the works for the rest of us.
Correct faucet installed today. Only two items left on the punch list. Yay! Still need a painter and the fridge.
We had to replace our kitchen faucet a few months back when the nozzle came off. I found myself thinking of those jurisdictions that closed down non-grocery parts of superstores during the lockdowns but kept media propaganda going, because apparently government propaganda is more essential than running water.

“BREAKING: Snopes CEO Suspended for Stealing Content & Using Fake Identities, Articles to be Retracted
The CEO and president of Snopes, the website that advertises itself as “the internet’s definitive fact-checking resource” is facing major heat after admitting to plagiarizing dozens of articles. A BuzzFeed News investigation found that David Mikkelson was involved in a major plagiarizing scandal that encompassed a whopping 54 pieces, Business Insider reports. “Plagiarism undermines our missions and values, full stop,” Snopes executives said in a statement. “It has no place in any context within this organization.” Mikkelson’s publishing rights have been revoked, though he remains a 50 percent shareholder and the company’s CEO.”

There’s been all sorts of shady stories floating around about the Mikkelsons in the past decade or so.
Funny, a decade or more is how long that site has been garbage.
Lazy “journalist” lexicon bingo. I’m sure real journalists who do an honest and thorough job often slip into such bad habits when turning out copy right quick fast in a hurry, but I still don’t like it.
I “discovered” Snopes more than 10 years ago, doing a search for “hidden mickeys”. I found that site and was in Heaven. I spent a literal full day reading through it, loving every minute. Then I left and didn’t go back for years.
I heard one day they were a designated “fact checker”…. Uh OK. The site that talked about Disney shit. They were now going to tell me what to believe politically.
Fact is, I would have given them some credibility just because I liked their site. Until I saw they hired some shit birds and joined the TMITE. Hard for a dude who just wants to read shit…..
I “knew” snopes and his ex-wife Barbara 30 years ago from the USENET site alt.folklore.urban, visiting with both via email back in the day. AFU was instrumental in the development of my scepticisim about what is “known”. Example to this site from a few days ago, the myth that freeways have to be able to accommodate military aircraft was soundly debunked.
Little known fact: Snopes father was invited to host SNL during (I believe) the second season and was governor of South Dakota at the time.
“Rumble, the right wing YouTube rival full of anti vaxx and conspiracy content, will pay up to midrange six figures for Glenn Greenwald and other influencers or “thought leaders” to post content there, according to a new report from WaPo
While a legitimate journalist could never take this deal, Glenn Greenwald potentially getting up to mid 6 figures to post content on Rumble shows how he’s leveraging the creator playbook & making huge amts of money following in MAGA influencers’ footsteps”

Yeah, because establishment media outlets never pay lavish sums to their stars.
What a grifter.

Hah!
Bonus points for Biden looking like he’s asleep standing up.
Standing up, sitting down, really, he’s multi-tasking.
