A little number to set the proper tone.
BREAKING NEWS: Kim Potter guilty of manslaughter in death of Daunte Wright.
THEY HATE YOU AND WANT YOU DEAD: MSNBC medical analyst Dr. Vin Gupta said Wednesday on “The ReidOut” that it was time for the medical profession to begin looking at the bioethics of placing a lower priority on unvaccinated COVID patients.
REDNECKS in the MIST, NEW ENGLAND YANKEE EDITION: Boston NPR station rubs hands gleefully as doctor describes “pandemic of the unvaccinated.” It must make them extra special happy that NH is a fever swamp of libertarianism.
GOVERNMENT SCIENTISTS CAUGHT STIFLING DISSENT: Phil Magness, that irrepressible foe of statism, managed to obtain emails between White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci and NIH director Francis Collins in which they hatch an attack on the Great Barrington Declaration. […] “There needs to be a quick and devastating takedown of its premises,” Collins wrote in reference to the GBD. Real scientists would investigate the premises first, then decide if the declaration should be subject to a “takedown,” but no such thing ever happened. WSJ has a more recent, perhaps throrough, article about this but it’s paywalled.
HOSPITALS DRUG TESTING, RATTING OUT, NEW MOTHERS (AGAIN): In a new lawsuit, human rights groups say a hospital in New York reported two mothers to child services after they tested positive for drugs – but only because they’d recently eaten poppy seeds.
Because you have all been so very, very good, here’s a new take on a more traditional Christmas song. And your tax dollars paid for this.
Two of them named “Gupta”?
And they both are in favor of a caste system.
But why would vaccinated people even be in the ICU…
It is a common last name in India.
Well, there was a Gupta Empire, but still, what are the odds?
It’s not as common as Patel, but it’s up there.
They the ones who make those small fishing poles and popcorn makers?
And own hotels.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK2p5TAhd0s
No kidding. You can’t swing a caste over there without hitting a half dozen Guptas.
As heard in an Engineering lecture in the late 1980’s.. “Would one of you Patel’s like to answer the question?”
True and LOL. Now do Nguyens…
Nguyen?
“THIRD BASE!”
“Formate” I had a Fortran TA that said “Formate”.. and we couldn’t figure out what she was talking about, until I figured out the code. and then oh, yeah.. that.
The other one that will ID me is the Chem prof that said “NIIII trogen” “OX-YYYYgen” He knew his stuff, but he had a distinct lecturing style.
How does one pronounce Nguyen? Ñu-yen?
Nuh-win? I’ve been getting it wrong for years.
‘Nwin’ is what I always use.
I have a friend named Nguyen who pronounces it like “when.”
ñwin? (one syllable)
Thanks, guys.
And bañh mi (sic) from what I understand. like lasaGNa.
aw hell. lasagne, pedants.
https://youtu.be/FMpf2zIIrTw
A former coworker with that last name pronounced it “when”.
Thanks, GL!
I don’t think it is, at least in the sense we use a last name. From what I remember, it is something between a job description, a clan, and a subdivision of a caste. Like “all Patels are hoteliers, are middle-lower- middle class, and marry within that group.”
The best way to look at it is along the lines of “Smith, black or gold or other white metal, knows his place.”
Oh, and Poppy Seeds?
“I was gonna see the bushmen! Not on my watch!”

So the older white women don’t need masks? Cause that is what I take away from that. And the meme of G.W. Saying “We wintered at Valley Forge for this?” is gold

I was busy tracking down an ambiguous report of a busted link.
Why isn’t Dr Jill wearing her scrubs for that?
I… I…
Hey Vlad! Just go ahead and nuke us!

Our so-called heroes on the so-called front lines claim to be overwhelmed by all the patients, but they can take the time off to go to the White House and do shit like this.
I like how scrupulously “diverse” they are.
Overheard on a plantation in the Antebellum south
“In order for this to work, we’re gonna need a shit-ton more ______s”
“In order for this to work, we’re gonna need a shit-ton more ______s”
Yankees?
Guns?
Dimes?
Because you have all been so very, very good, here’s a new take on a more traditional Christmas song. And your tax dollars paid for this.
JFC you motherfucker Tonio. That was unnecessary. I made it less than a minute.
Any mask people can sing through doesn’t do shit.
” I made it less than a minute.”
I know. Dr. Jill does it for me, too.
LO fucking L
SECONDED.
Is that The Indigo Girls latest single?
Oh Tooooonioooooo! First linky no worky
Thanks. Fixed.
But technically that was the third link, took me a while to find which one you meant.
Ah…uh…I don’t really read everything you write. I am not that enamored with you.
Great thread on the attacks against the GBD here:
https://twitter.com/DrJBhattacharya/status/1472773170918682625
Dayum. My sister in law, an editor for a major national publication, totally bought the dismissals of the HBD when I brought it up last year. As he says, the smears worked.
I pushed the GBD in a few forums. The dismissals by my “educated” friends were swift and blistering.
Collins’ protests in that interview are blatant fucking lies and he knows it. He has the counterfactual now, Sweden, and refuses to even acknowledge the country exists. Never mind his complete misrepresentation of the GBD and the ad hominem attacks on the extremely distinguished people who wrote it.
A little number to set the proper tone.
This number sets the tone more properly.
A slice of pi for Christmas. Thanks, Ted’s!
Does that come in blueberry?
Raspberry Pi, this is the answer.
Good luck buying one before the end of next year…
I found one lying around the other day. I don’t remember what I planned on doing with it, but I could use some ideas.
I have a RPi3? I think. I was going to make it into a Christmas lights controller but then I got drunk.
I had read an article the other day about a Raspberry Pi shortage, but a quick look on Amazon after I posted above shows that they are available, if more expensive than they used to be.
As far as uses, try building a media server with Clementine, or maybe some home automation with Openhab. OctoPrint is a cool app for driving and monitoring your 3D printer.
I should have said I have two pis in operation now, one I use in the office as a retro gaming machine and the other just runs pihole to block ads (I also tried to make it a VPN and failed miserably).
Openhab is interesting. I am assuming you can run it without sharing information to Google or Amazon?
Yeah, that’s why I chose it. I use ZWave devices and Openhab for all my home automation. Nothing talks outside my local network. I won’t put any IoT shit on Wifi or anything that requires talking to the Internet (one exception is my Sonos system for audio, but I’m researching whether Clementine can be modded to sync players up so that multiple Pis could be used to allow different zones in the house).
Does anyone have a socket/switch unit that measures current? I have a WYZE outdoor socket… it does the job, but it is a closed ecosystem (cloud) . and I would need to re-flash it to access directly.
Why?.. because I want to check at 20:00 that the block heater on the truck is plugged in if the temperature is going to be below 32F the next morning.
So I would turn on the switch.. check for current.. and if there is an error, tell me the night before.
Again, in the morning, when I start the pre-head at 05:00.. if there is a problem.. it will tell me, well before I need to start the damn diesel.
The “Teensy” line of microcontrollers is also acceptable.

https://www.amazon.com/Z-Wave-Repeater-Extender-Required-SmartThings/dp/B07VKKT7X7
You need a Z-wave hub device to connect these–I think they both say they’ll work with Alexa. If you’re not into Alexa, you can use OpenHab (make sure to check the Openhab Z-Wave device compatibility list to make sure the details of them are in the database).
If they aren’t in the database, you can use the tech specs provided with the unit to make a submission to the database and it will be included in the next OpenHab unstable release…
Dr. Mossy Lawn:

Neither seem to be current monitoring, the key marketing item seems to be “power monitoring”. The WYZE one does it.. but there is no published API. and the IFTTT code doesn’t access it… the GitHub API can let me control it.. but not get power usage. I guess it is MITM time for the app.
Dr. Lawn:
I don’t understand it. The links in Amazon specifically stated energy monitoring for those, but the product that was linked is a different product.
I’m pretty sure you can get them that monitor current (I have a home energy monitor that is billed as “power monitoring” but really measures current and uses the main voltage to calculate a power usage–I don’t think it takes reactive power into account though.
This one definitely lists power monitoring, but is sold out:

“but only because they’d recently eaten poppy seeds”
Putting aside I have no idea they were tested in the first place, that must be some sensitive test.
I thought this was just a Seinfeld punchline.
Not necessarily. Poppy seed bagels have a lot of seeds on them, and they can be covered in raw opium, since the seeds are inside the case which contains opium. It’s not unusual for a ‘false’ positive to be generated.
They won’t get you high, but they could mess up your day in a situation like this.
Yeah, one of my friends ate a poppyseed muffin the morning of his job interview and failed the drug test that afternoon. The company interviewing him said “The poppyseed false positives come up all the time. We should probably stop offering those muffins…”
He just retested a week later and got the job.
If a company has to use your pee to decide if you are a valuable employee, their criteria is fucked up. I’m okay with piss tests when someone fucks shit up, but if there is a positive test on an employee, that just means management did not do it’s job.
Federally required for some jobs.
I.KNOW.:)
I once took a piss test for a job I’d applied for, only realizing later that I’d eaten a poppy seed bagel the day before.
Fortunately for me, I got lucky.
The last time I looked this up, which was a LONG time ago, it supposedly took 5 poppy seeded bagels to bust you. If I didn’t need my job, I’d order a dozen, and video myself licking the seeds off the bagels. Actually, that sounds kind of painful. Like French kissing a cat.
okey dokey.

https://www.winchesterhospital.org/health-library/article?id=156998
One of these sites mentioned a large increase in the blood level needed to qualify as positive. If that’s true, it might take 5 bagels. I’m still pretty sure I don’t want to trust to this. Also, there seems to be a 16-20 hr. window, which might be what saved my ass.
The end is nigh
New data from the Zoe symptom-tracker app suggests one in two people with new coldlike symptoms will have COVID-19 rather than the common cold.
Tim Spector, an epidemiologist and the study’s lead author, said in a press release on Thursday that for most people, getting infected with Omicron would feel “much more like the common cold, starting with a sore throat, runny nose and a headache,” rather than fevers, continuous cough, or loss of taste or smell.
To get to the 50% figure, Spector and his team compared the number of new cases of a coldlike illness with the number of new cases of COVID-19 confirmed by a lateral flow or lab test.
“We need to change public messaging urgently to save lives as half of people with cold-like symptoms now have COVID-19,” Spector said.
And, they just can’t accept the good news. It always ends in “oh my god, we’re all gonna die”.
If they let Omicron slip into the dominant strain they will lose billions.
Local news has been reporting that Omicron is the most common strain, and hospitals are stressed by it.
Well, when you turn 200,000,000 citizens into hypochondriacs what do you expect?
Tens of thousands of new cases every day.
They don’t have the power to sequence that many new samples.
Its assumption. The same they did with Delta. Here, read this
That was in July this year.
If we’re doing assumptions now, how about I start with the assumption that no public announcement from the government is free of the intent to spin facts to the government’s narrative and allow it to accrete more and more power, regardless of the true state of affairs?
Yet, they wield it as science fact.
Nothing to do with the poor planning, yo-yo staffing, and contract companies that are raping hospitals and states with wildly inflated pricing.
It is our fault that the hospitals are overwhelmed.
Every story I read on overcrowding always has a line like “many beds are taken up with an influx of people who delayed care”.
Hmmm….
Why did those selfish bastards delay care I wonder?
Why did those selfish bastards delay care I wonder?
I’m one of them! Canceled the cataract surgery scheduled for April 28 2020 because… oh, that’s right, the medical facility was closed and the surgeon stopped doing surgeries. Selfish bastard, I am.
Yeah, I had to go to the brink of losing sanity with a double disc fusion until Governor Comorbidities graciously allowed “Elective surgery” again…me and the bone on bone joint replacement people. I hope he develops a painful condition in the 6th circle of Hell.
/looks at local news saying those same facilities are postponing non-essential surgery through January of next year.
If we keep kicking the can, it’ll never stop!
I hope they all develop painful conditions.
Le sigh. The bug I recently contracted did not last long. Scratchy throat, dry cough, fever last night, fever this morning. By noon today, temp back to normal and no more cough. We used to call this a “cold”. I plan to self-test because I gots to know, especially since my son has been laid up for a week with the ‘vid (he is much better now). I know some cases are more serious than others (looking at you, Tres), but it looks like this is turning into just another seasonal respiratory bug.
THE PATZERS ARE IMMUNE NOW!!!!!!!
“Attorney General Keith Ellison and the prosecution at a press conference to honor Wright’s life”
A reading of all his forays into the dark side of life. He was a good Baby Daddy anyway according to some and he loved basketball, too.
He also was accused of shooting one person in the leg, and another in the face.
And an attempted strong arm robbery of a woman.
Why are you hating on the women db?
He destroyed multiple lives. That’s what members of the parasite class do. And they get off on it too(e.g., social media). Fuck him. It’s for the best that the piece of dogshit is dead. Ellison wants to be governor. which is why he keeps poaching these cases. Fuck him too.
I would sneer at your contention that Brother Keith will run for governor, but he did somehow win a statewide race for the AG office. So yeah, he may one day be in the gov’s mansion.
I met that piece of shit when he came to speak at the company I worked for when he was representative of CD 5. I sat in the front row of the big conference room and glared at him the whole time, with a slight smirk on my face. He kept looking at me throughout his speech and was clearly uncomfortable.
The day before his visit, the company public relations lady emailed me a softball question to ask him. I replied back “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA….(breathe) HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I don’t think you want me to do that. I am a volunteer on his opponent’s campaign.”
Ellison is a piece of shit, a complete idiot, and is a Nation of Islam Farrakhan-following racist.
When he was running for Congress the first time, the coffee shop in our building was run by a crazy progressive lady.
Kathy decided she was going to back one of Brother Keith’s opponents in the primary because she had gone to a debate and didn’t think Ellison was all that great.
Another even more progressive customer replied with “I didn’t know you were racist, that’s sad” when she told him about her decision.
Kathy freaked out at being called a racist and told us all about it. We laughed and laughed and welcomed her into the club. “Now you know how we get treated anytime we disagree with you guys”.
I’m also amazed that they let a nut like you go to the photo op.
At one of the startups I worked at, the other guys secretly delayed an interview with a local reporter until I was off on a trip. They were worried about some of the truth bombs I might blurt out.
I was a bit hurt, but I also realized that they were probably right to do what they did.
I think the PR lady assumed I was a liberal because I’m a chick. I didn’t talk about political opinions to anyone outside my little circle.
Love it. One time Sen. Arlen Spector came to my place of work for a photo op in a factory. The owner knew I was no fan, so he asked me to keep quiet. I promised I wouldn’t ask Darlin’ Arlen anything. So, as Spector was leaving, he looks right at me, steps over, and says “That’s a great tie you’re wearing.” Well, it was my maroon and gold Libertarian Party emblem tie and I made sure to tell him so. He gave me a sheepish grin and walked away.
HAHAHAHA! Fuck you, Arlen.
In this one of many possible worlds
All for the best, or some bizarre test…
“And some will say, ‘Well, can I get vaccinated now?’ ” Lasky said. “And you know, it’s a little too late for that.”
Sure they say that.
Peterborough and many surrounding communities lean Democrat. I wouldn’t be surprised if vaccination rates are higher in those communities than in many other parts of NH.
This is a real thing that happened in the White House.
WTF was that?
How do we know it didn’t happen on a TV set of the White House?
Weirdly in sync.
Paranoia Bros
The final steps of turning our government into a Polisci Drama mashed up with a Sitcom flair premise. Trump opened the door to President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho and instead, we get this. I want a refund.
If it’s too late for that, I’ll bet they still tell the patients that recover that they NEED the vax now.
Were you lying then, or are you lying now?
With another coronavirus variant racing across the U.S., once again health authorities are urging people to mask up indoors. Yes, you’ve heard it all before. But given how contagious omicron is, experts say, it’s seriously time to upgrade to an N95 or similar high-filtration respirator when you’re in public indoor spaces.
“Cloth masks are not going to cut it with omicron,” says Linsey Marr, a researcher at Virginia Tech who studies how viruses transmit in the air.
Omicron is so much more transmissible than coronavirus variants that have come before it. It spreads at least three times faster than delta. One person is infecting at least three others at a time on average, based on data from other countries.
“It’s very contagious,” says Dr. Robert Wachter, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. “And the kind of encounter that you could have had with prior versions of the virus that would have left you uninfected, there’s now a good chance you will get infected from it.”
And, as we all know, INFECTION = DEATH. Because we follow the SCIENCE!
Lying fucks. I want them all to die locked in a burning building.
I knew that was where they were going to go with the sudden turn on masks and their line of any mask will do. They will upgrade the requirement that no entry unless its a N95 by end of year.
Have any of these people asked the scaremongers how much smaller the OmicRona virus is than the other variants?
I mean it has to be way smaller to evade the masks in ways that the Delta could only dream of, right?
I will not comply.
So fucking tired of this.
My husband met his new (highly recommended) cardiologist yesterday (new because we left San Diego.)
Guy was wearing a well-worn mask without the lower straps tied, so it was effectively just an old cloth hanging loosely over his mouth.
He is clearly so over this shit.
Probably got it at the Mask Recycle Bin.
Just when Home Depot finally started carrying the good 3M N95 masks again…
I encourage all of the ones in this story, if they can’t find a N95 mask or even if they can, to use an expedient N100 plastic bag and secure it over their heads and around their necks.
Less than two week go, Delta was the cause of 99% of the cases in hospitals. Today, that’s what they say about Omicron. Did Delta just vanish into thin air all of the sudden? What happened to all of the Delta patient in ICU? Are they all dead now? At this point, I don’t believe god damn thing these motherfuckers say.
I want them all to die locked in a burning building
What did that perfectly good building do to you? Bad enough you want to burn it, but to also have it defiled with Public Health Officials?
Odds that Twin Cities police will sick-out when called out for overtime to deal with social unrest?
Well they will never say ‘taser taser taser’ again, or even go to it.
I wonder if there’s any public policy requirement for PDs to carry Tasers at all. I can see some PDs making the call to discontinue Taser use completely and just rely on nightsticks for “less lethal” force. There are tons of ways Tasers can fail to do their job anyway–it would be easy to get rid of them from a reliability and safety standpoint.
Asp. Asp, Baby,,,
Zero. The goons in MPD will jump at the chance to go beat some protesters.
Odds that they will be recorded saying all sorts of stupid shit, or slashing tires as a “riot control tactic”? 100%.
The cops are as dumb and stupid as the antifa knuckleheads. If only they could go somewhere far away from the rest of us to battle.
Re: Juris Imprudent’s link to sadbeard’s piece about Tema Okun. Interesting piece. I’d only vaguely heard of her and went digging for a little more info. Among the things I found was a promotional blurb (self-authored I assume) which concluded thus:
“She lives in Durham NC where she is fortunate to reside among beloved community. Her current project is deepening her ability to love her neighbor as herself. She is finding the instruction easy and the follow through challenging, given how we live in a culture that is afraid to help us do either or both.”
This self-indulgent, everything is about me and the whole world is trying to stop me crap is so tiring. Not to mention it’s such a pathetic byline. It’s the problem with a lot of academics: emotionally, they never get older than being a junior in college.
Marr notes that preliminary data from scientists at the University of Hong Kong has shown that omicron multiplies 70 times faster inside human respiratory tract tissue than the delta variant does. That study also found that omicron reaches higher levels in respiratory tract tissue 48 hours after infection, compared with delta.
“That would suggest to me that maybe it reaches higher levels and then we spew out more [virus particles] if we’re infected,” Marr says. And while it’s too soon to tell, she says it’s conceivable that omicron is so good at infecting us, we just need to breathe in fewer viral particles of omicron to get infected.
And virus particles from an infectious person can linger in the air indoors for minutes or even hours after they leave a room in some situations, says Dr. Abraar Karan, an infectious disease physician at Stanford University. “I think that people need to realize that transmission here can happen even when you’re not near somebody,” he says.

And the other variants knew how far six feet was?
My understanding is that it is a good thing that it is developing higher up in the respiratory tract instead of the lungs. It becomes a problem when things develop in the lungs. But I guess they have to leave things ambiguous to keep the fear up.
So OT, but I think it is funny.
Had beers with an old coworker this week. She’s still at the old salt mine where we used to work together and she was telling me about the mutiny that is brewing there.
The company is pretty generous and gives most people 4 weeks of vacation and you can roll it over one year. However at the end of last week HR – with lots of fanfare – declared that that plan was too restrictive and that they are going to take a page out of successful Silicon Valley playbooks and now offer Unlimited Vacation Time!
Oh, and they aren’t paying out for any vacation time that people have banked. And last fall they had a couple big deadlines to hit and most of the engineers were asked to delay vacation if they could to help out.
She said people are really, really pissed. Everyone who had time banked up, immediately decided that they would not work another day in 2021 and left. I guess they are really scrambling to answer the phones and keep the lights on now.
I’m so glad I don’t work there anymore.
I actually work for a company which has an “unlimited” vacation plan. They might be an outlier, but are actually pretty good about it, I’ve never had any issues.
Oh, and they aren’t paying out for any vacation time that people have banked.
This, on the other hand, is bullshit. Might be a lawsuit or three in your ex-employer’s future.
It isn’t the unlimited vacation plan that is upsetting people.
It is how they are screwing over people who delayed vacations this year so they could have. a longer one next year. If they had announced this new plan early next year and let people use up their saved vacation time everything would have been fine.
One of the things I hated working for that company was how much they prioritized tweaking their numbers. Nothing strictly illegal, but if you could recognize some revenue now instead of next quarter DO IT! Then next quarter you find that your numbers are weak because you recognized that revenue already so…. Maybe we could recognize some revenue from the next quarter early?
The scuttlebutt is that the unlimited vacation plan is better for accounting than traditional vacations. Because you don’t have the liability of unpaid vacation hanging over your head. (True? Just passing along the rumor).
With the company’s track record it is too believable that someone decided to try juking numbers to get a bump for the year end reporting.
unlimited vacation is no vacation.
work until the job is done
go away for a while, but be on call
Pretty much. Comes with the territory at a small startup, I knew what I was getting into. What happened at His Eminence’s old stomping grounds is something else.
During my career I keep working at startups that get assimilated by Big Borg at some point.
Startups are great because of all the freedom, but the 7×24 time requirements really do wear on you.
When you get bought out, it is nice to all of a sudden have enough people you can take a real vacation. But then the rules and BS grow and grow and someone calls to tell you about a cool new startup and the cycle repeats.
Sounds like a place to avoid. Good on the workers for walking out. I imagine some will be permanent leavers, that should work out really well for the company.
There are a lot of good people still there. I think that they are actually more focused on their core competencies than when I was there and that is a good thing.
I doubt anyone will leave for good. Most of them are lifers. Once they have blown off some steam they will all go back in 2022.
“liability of unpaid vacation hanging over your head. (True?”
Yep, you have to accrue as a liability the cost of the earned but unpaid vacation time.
And CPA firms now look pretty closely at recognizing revenue. If my firm said something shipped by 12/31, the CPAs would look at the shipping docs from the carrier to see when the goods were actually picked up. It is a little bit trickier, of course, if one is recognizing
partial completion earned on a long term contract.
Our company went to that, sort of, a couple of years ago. Shortly after it was implemented, a VP was bragging on a department staff meeting about how well it works and how he was so supportive of it. One of his examples was how he approved someone’s request for a month or two to go do some bucket list dream achievement and how great that was.
Never mind that the person’s immediate manager couldn’t just approve it, that the VP got to evaluate the merits of how you use your vacation time (if I have four weeks banked and I decide to sit in my underwear, drink beer, and watch tv the entire time, FY), and if the company could go without for an extended amount of time maybe you aren’t needed (always a risk with long vacations).
Since then it’s settled into pretty much how it’s been before.

Hopefully, Covid kills his ass.

And takes her with him.
Ah the banality of evil. The more things change the more they stay the same.
As long as you don’t stop at vaccination status, I’m cool with it.
Fat fucks, take two steps back.
Black people with your sickle cell take a half step back
Men, you dummies die early anyhow so take a step back
Anyone with diabetes can take 5 steps back
No gym membership? take a step back
Smokers go to the back of the line.

in conclusion – well, fuck!
Wachter says he’s also covering up indoors with small groups of friends and family unless everyone is vaccinated and boosted. If they’re not boosted, he says, “I consider them to be somewhere between vaccinated and unvaccinated, and I act appropriately if I’m going to be around them.” That means he either has everyone mask up, or he has everyone take a rapid test to make sure no one is infectious at that moment. “One or the other.” This is especially important if anyone attending is high-risk.

I consider them to be somewhere between vaccinated and unvaccinated, and I act appropriately if I’m going to be around them.
As the number of boosters increase, we need are going to need shorthand descriptors for varying levels of vaccination.
Here is a useful historical model.
Maybe adopt the chevrons and rockers that enlisted folks put on their uniforms?
Of course, Pubic Health Officials will get brass insignia to make us plebes aware of their exalted status.
“Nice knowing you.”
“And I hope you get the help you need.”
So I was at my local bar downtown waiting for my wife when I bumped into one of our mutual friends, a Scottish fellow who works at the building next to hers at Big Research College. His doctorate is in tropical and infectious diseases, so I asked him why only certain variants of the commie cough seem to get all the publicity.
“Well,” he tells me, “My opinion is that the first strain of COVID, the Alpha, was accidentally released from the lab in Wuhan, given Chinese competence in general, and was a really nasty bugger, probably 10% mortality rate. That’s why the Chinks freaked out so much in their domestic response, and kept a lid on things, information-wise. By the time that the virus escaped Wuhan, which was bloody inevitable, it had mutated into the Beta strain, which was still virulent enough to knock off all those poor buggers in the old folks’ homes. There was a short-lived third strain late last year, and then the infamous Delta reared its head.”
“Why was the third variant such a flash in the pan?” I asked.
“As far as we can tell, it was just before Christmas.” He glanced around to see if we’d picked up any eavesdroppers, then leaned towards me.
“Gamma got run over by a reindeer.”
That is time in my life that I will never get back.
boo! his! LOL
I’m going to copy and paste and re read and remember; so I can tell at christmas gathering tomorrow

Watching that music video reminds of the saying where we want government reduced to the size of something we can drown in a bathtub. Fuck that. Reduce it to a size where I can drown it in a rain filled pothole I just shat in.

A rain-filled pothole is bigger than a bathtub.

This sort of thing makes me skeptical of the whole “classical liberals need to rise up against the woke left and populust-nationalist right” since they seem to be terrified of the attacks they will receive yet how are they going to win otherwise? If the progs know which buttons to push they will do so. This lack of self-confidence isn’t inspiring.
Also snobbery has always been a huge flaw of liberalism. Liberals have always thought of themselves as rational, civilized forward-thinking enlightened cosmopolitans who follow science so the worst thing you can do is too accuse them is of being a backwoods yokel. Yet this exactly what the Jacobins, the Progressives, Socialists, Communists and now the Covidocrats have argued to great success.
Also this reminds me that most of the opposition to Trump was totalitarian. He is not a Top Man and is vulgar and too sympathetic to the lower orders. George Will is a perfect example of this. He complains about spending and the 1619 yet he voted for Biden who supports both and is shocked that he actually supports both. Biden was supposed to be an enlightened Technocrat unlike Trump who lies for noble reasons unlike Trump.
Then there is the lack of introspection. Why is it that this tyranny is happening after massive increases in living standards? Why are the biggest tyrants the educated cosmopolitan urbanites? Why are the tyrants justifying their behavior by saying that they want to end racism and want to improve physical and mental health?
Another noted epidemiologist speaks out
In a series of tweets late Tuesday, Bill Gates says he plans to cancel most of his holiday plans and warned that that the United States “could be entering the worst part of the pandemic.”
Asserting that the Omicron variant is spreading faster than any virus in history, the billionaire and Microsoft co-founder said the big unknown remains how sick the Omicron variant can make you.
“We need to take it seriously until we know more about it. Even if it’s only half as severe as Delta, it will be the worst surge we have seen so far because it’s so infectious,” Gates said.
——-
Through the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, Bill Gates has been trying to close the vaccine gap, noting that far fewer people in low-income countries have received a Covid-19 vaccines. He said in a CNN opinion story in October that the gap will get harder to close, because the world’s richer governments are buying up extra doses to serve as booster shots.
“People are right to be upset about the inequity here,” Gates wrote. “Vaccines make Covid-19 a largely preventable disease — and a survivable one in all but the rarest cases — and it is heartbreaking to know that people are dying of a disease not because it can’t be stopped but because they live in a low-income country.”
The plague was survivable in all but the rarest cases two years ago, you cretinous hypochondriac, but please feel free to lock yourself in your luxurious panic room until we give you the All Clear.
“spreading faster than any virus in history” in History eh? Justinian? the one that got Athens and Pericles?
Spanish Flu?
Go Fuck yourselves
Aw, Steve Wozniak, please come back.
If anyone has a reason to be scared of the Flue Screen of Death, I think it would be Gates.
Something was seen, by others,
His holiday plans? Epstein’s dead, Maxwell’s in the pokey, and he just got divorced. Maybe the poor guy just doesn’t have anywhere to go, what with all his closest friends gone and everything.
Disneyland?
See? One of the richest men in the world and he still can’t get his ex out of his life and bizness.
Also doesn’t our opposition to covidism make us…socons? We want a return to normal, isn’t that a socially conservative mindset.
The WHO just came out against boosters. Apparently it’s selfish and wasteful to use multiple shots on people who are not vulnerable, while people in poor countries have had no shots at all. But we’re the US, so fuck those other countries as long as we “feel safe”.
Here, have my ration coupon.
The WHO just came out against boosters
They won’t get fooled again!
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
I can’t quite decide whether I hate or I love that argument.
I’m against masks, they are not environmentally friendly.
If you believe that the unvaccinated are causing mutations which are a problem, then it makes sense to vaccinate the rest of the world before pushing boosters here.
Just saw on TV: Daunte’s mom is ecstatic. Apparently she fails to grasp that her POS son is dead. Either that, or she’ thrilled about a potential payout. he’ll come down when he fi out that BC statute caps payouts at $1m. She’ll blow through her $600k in no time. Another member of the parasite class.
I don’t watch tv but I heard of this. I don’t know what kind of piece of shit the kid was, so I just see this as a bad shoot. And ya, bitch piece of shit cop should go to prison as long as other thieving murdering motherfuckers go to prison every fucking day. I see it as the system might just be righting itself.
I know I think that the cop was rightly convicted. She fucked up big time and someone ended up dead. She should do some time for that. Same as any of us would.
That doesn’t mean, though, that we all have to pretend she shot an angel who was out delivering meals to shutins.
My other gripe is how no one will overtly say that this was a bad shoot because of incompetence. It wasn’t because the cop was malicious (like Chauvin) and knowingly pushed the limits and it blew up. She fucked up in a split second.
Why did Mohamed Noor only get 12.5 years for murdering an unarmed Australian woman who’d called the cops to report an assault taking place near where she was staying?
(For those unfamiliar with the case, a few years ago in Minneapolis Noor shot this woman for no reason anyone could explain. He’d been celebrated as the first Somali cop in Minneapolis and what an awesome cultural bridge he’d be.)
My thought is that it was a clear mistake. Surely she shouldn’t be a police officer, and with or without a conviction, she was going to pay out the ass in civil court (as will the government/taxpayer), but it’s hard to see criminality in what happened.
I think the case was made quite well by Andrew Branca that the State failed to show she was criminally reckless (the standard for manslaughter in MN). Definitely negligent, but probably not rising to the level of criminality. But the judge allowed the prosecution to imply to the jury that the common English “recklessness” is equivalent to recklessness under the law, when it really means something more like legal “negligence.”
I don’t care one wit what the kid was like. People who did little to nothing that infringes on others get sent to prison for years every fucking day. I will not shed one ounce of sympathy for a person who did that exact thing for decades until it finally came out she was incompetent. Let her die in prison. #fuckher..
I agree she should be in prison. Ironically, a place Mr. Wright was successfully able to avoid. Almost Christlike on her part when you think about it.
Agreed. The parents have been shitheels from the very beginning. If my son had shot a few people, tried robbing others, I would be a bit more circumspect in my dealings with the media.
I am sure that she will be completely flummoxed when she is not offered $20M like George Floyd’s family.
She was sure this was going to be the biggest win-win of all time. A huge payout, her POS son is gone AND she gets to wear one of the biggest Victim Crowns in the city. What isn’t to like about that?
She traded all of her yesterdays for just one tomorrow…
I just spent 30 minutes watching Letterkenny clips.
That must mean I’m done for the day.

Ironic, didn’t Paine write a constution for France which he presumably envisioned having some effect after his death and didn’t most of fellow drafters ended up among the dead thanks to the very living Jacobins? And he himself came close to being among the dead. Also Jefferson is dead and the people who took down his statue are alive.
How about the Revolutionaries thinking you are a foreign spy who should lose his head? Oh wait…
Overly optimistic there…
By reform you mean kill a lot more people then…
Cool press release from my neck of the woods. The details about the tunnel construction at U1a for Scorpius is nifty.
https://nnss.gov/pages/News/news.html
That’s interesting. I’m curious now about how testing of these devices can be done without reaching criticality and how the data measured during a subcritical detonation can predict a real-life detonation.
“Very carefully.”
Out burst of Laughter!!!!
Read the website, then you will know, kind of,
The details about the tunnel construction at U1a for Scorpius is nifty.
I’ll say.
When most people think of mixing up some concrete, a trip to the nearest hardware store for a bag of dry ingredients to be combined with water from the backyard hose likely comes to mind
Count me in with most people on this. It’s amazing how something as apparently mundane as concrete can be so complex.
This part is a little scary:
Scorpius will enable experiments that image special nuclear material during multiple stages of detonation in order to provide essential data on stockpile safety and certification, while still being subcritical and designed to never reach criticality.
I sure hope they never reach criticality. Yikes!
Well, there is a reason it’s a thousand feet underground in the middle of nowhere. Odds are very very low, but consequences are bad.

Time for wholesome family time, annual Christmas cookie decorating. I am so happy XX came by to participate. We are having Asian delivery from one of her favorite restaurants. It’s like weird Christmas Story, 21st century. Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra… Ra Ra Ra Ra.
Is there any chance there might be a zoom-y type thing tonight? I figure with the normal nights being holidays, we wouldn’t be doing one then.
I’m not even threatening to show up if you do have one. I am just asking.
It was discussed last night.
Meaning to say, I do expect one to be announced.
So that’s a no, then.
Oh. Never mind.
I promised to host one and I never lie so here, and I’m not pulling that 8 o’clock bullshit I’m startingit at 6, topics will include was Mellissa Etheridge’s debut album banging or not, and are ‘funny’ gun nut bumper stickers a good idea if you carry?
Well, I gave it a try, no takers, oh well, merry Xmas nerds.
Merry Christmas to you as well,
JFC give us a second. I clicked. I got some shit to say to you you prick. And then your zoom link doesnt work. That makes more things to say. I can’t keep up with all the shit I need to say.

WOW! That’s beautiful.
Incredible stuff!
Wow. Just… wow.
When I look south I see a line of peaks. Some 14r’s. A handful are over 14,000 feet in elevation. One of them I dropped a soul brothers ashes off of some years ago. A lifelong friend. We grew up together. He drug me out of bed on spring mornings to pack up with skis and go hike some fucking thing so we could huck off some cornice that hadn’t given in to the season change. He died young, but he was just like those guys in the video. Life blows sometimes. I miss my friend.
My knees hurt just watching that. And I have brand new titanium knees.
So for something like that cave at the beginning – would that have been completely natural or was that built and then had water poured down it so it froze nicely?
I love vids like this but always wondering how much is completely staged (ie ramps built) or how many takes it took…
The snow looks pristine, which looks like no ramps, one take.
That said, there are a lot of cameras and a lot of cuts.
The cave is natural. The lower parts of glaciers (zone of ablation) frequently have melt caves. That was well scouted because they often have running water in them.
By popular demand and the special request of KK, I will host a zoom tonight. Starts at 8pm Eastern.

Hobbit, next time you roll north though my neck of the woods we are having beers. Or tequila. I will break my ways for a lunch with you guys.
Done deal. I love your neck o’ the woods.
Do you wanna kill?
I have cold symptoms (runny nose, drainage, sore throat, cough). According to kinnath’s link above, I could have the Omicron Covid. Crossing my fingers for natural immunity.
You might just have a cold – sounds like me for the last two days. Or maybe I have Omicron. Who knows?
It’s Schrodingers virus.
having had both omicron and a cold, there’s not much difference.
It’s nothing serious. I actually thought I caught a cold until I read that article. I thought I might have had a break-through case back in August when i had flu symptoms (headache, body aches, tired, lack of apatite & diarrhea) for a couple days. Didn’t get a Covid test then and don’t plan to get one one now. May have to look into an antibodies test.
This has been a great Airing of the Grievances. Good Festivus. Thanks, Tonio!
Festivus ain’t over until someone wrestles OMWC and wins.
I’ll put my money on Webdom or SP.
I will put my money on any whatever pronouned blue haired thing that works for him. His entire staff could kick his ass and we all know it.
Big back porches cause a much more obvious slapping sound.

Well done!
Oh my.

That was the laugh I needed.
That was fun. Much like the daily links photo that Sloopy posted a while back. Took me a moment on that one.
Ha! Nice.
Keene, NH police officer says, “Don’t follow the mask ordinance”
A detective with the Keene Police Department, the agency responsible for enforcing the city’s new indoor mask mandate, suggested last week that people disobey that policy.
In a Facebook comment, Lt. Jason Short equated supporters of the mask requirement, which the City Council adopted last Thursday to help curb a recent spike in COVID-19 cases, to “the bad guys in movies” who think they’re helping society.
“It is only when the ‘good guy’ stands up to them that they realize they are wrong,” Short said in the comment. “Citizens need to stand up and stop simply complying to this nonsense mandates [sic].”
Wednesday afternoon, the comment appeared to have been deleted.
Excellent.
Hey guys… ‘member when that politician claimed that hospital staff were being “literally” attacked by the un
cleanvaxxed?They may have been
incorrectlying.Jeebus. He wasn’t even close to the truth.
Yet the original story popped up in my news feed multiple times. The refutation, just stumbled across it on a local news site (the hospital chain they’re referring to is based out of Akron).
That’s the kind of thing that really demands an immediate resignation from office. Using your position to, essentially, turn a specific group of people into a violent threat.
How to say I am unqualified to be President without saying I’m unqualified to be President.

Wait…she thinks our Democracy (setting aside the usual) is a national security threat? I mean…thanks for coming right out and saying the quiet part aloud.
(Chafed, the Archbishop of Canterbury lives at Lambeth Palace, London. I should have known that!)
Thanks Toxeth. I gather he lives alone because he is bad person.
She is so, so stupid.
PA Supreme Court issues opinion explaining why it voided school mask mandate
Two weeks after it shot down Pennsylvania’s school mask mandate, the state Supreme Court on Thursday issued a 58-page opinion explaining its decision.
That opinion, written by Justice David Wecht, can be summed up rather succinctly.
The problem with the mask mandate was that Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam “circumvented” state laws and regulations in issuing that edict in August, the justices found.
So, Beam’s order was never enforceable, the high court decided, largely because it was issued in the absence of any emergency declaration by Gov. Tom Wolf or any consent by the Legislature.
Wecht stressed that his court’s ruling was about the law, not about virology. The justices took no position on the volatile debate over masking is an effective way to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Both of my stepsons currently rent homes in the Minneapolis area. They both are in “committed” relationships with gals (but not committed enough to get married—grumble grumble). The 26 year old has a baby with his gal, and the 27 year old does not.
For reasons I don’t quite understand, they have both decided to transition from renting to buying homes in the coming months.
I don’t feel good about the economy right now; seems like house prices are high even though other economic indicators aren’t good. Neither man/boy has substantial savings, so they will likely have to get HUD mortgages and pay mortgage insurance.
Do you guys think the nation is on the verge of a housing bubble? Also, should I offer to help with the down payments or is that asking for trouble by creating an expectation that I will bail them out financially in perpetuity? Neither have asked us for help so far.
Back off and watch. When the time comes you and they will know it.
I would personally not try to buy a property at this time. The air mover is waiting for the excrement.
Physical property is good, if THSHTF, then some one has to take it, so depend Our system working or collapsing and spend accordingly,
Thank you both for your perspective.
I hope they don’t get screwed. I am going to make sure they know to look out for balloon mortgages.
“May you find your Tower, Roland, and breach it,…and may you climb to the top!”
Too much baking to go, I’m out kids, enjoy!
