Morning, Banjos.
Poor crazy lady, life has always been especially hard for her.
It is sad how things have worked out for her.
Ritz-Carlton, Orlando! Not a bad place to check out, NPI.
Banjos had the taste not to put the Sinead link next to the potato link.
Q: How many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman?
A: Zero
Boo…

“His ‘direct action’ checklist laid out what he intended to carry, including: flammable rags, a gas mask, pepper spray, a multitool pocketknife and more.”
Surely we need sensible limits on the number of tools a single knife can contain.
So he had S’mores to carry. Good thinking
*narrows gaze*
Taser! Taser! Taser!
Hey now, don’t put that idea out in the world.
He should have had inflammable rags instead.
Thanks for the music, Banjos, the headlines are rather depressing.
New York City’s worst fire disaster in more than 30 years was sparked by a faulty space heater, officials confirmed on Sunday night – killing nine children and ten adults, and leaving dozens more critically injured.
The five-alarm blaze erupted shortly before 11am on the second and third floor of a 19-story building at 333 East 181st Street in the Bronx.
FDNY commissioner Daniel Nigro said that ‘very heavy’ fire and smoke ‘extended the entire height of the building’ and confirmed that a space heater caused the blaze.
This would never happen if natural Gas were outlawed.
Nigro please……

Manchin’s plan is basically the same as OG BBB, but doesn’t include expanded child tax credit. Is that the major difference?
I saw somewhere that he had thumb’s down on the whole plan as inflationary.
He dropped his compromise anyway which I find hilarious. He’s fed up with Democrats stabbing him in the back and lying about his willingness to compromise.

We have an abundance. What we don’t have again is garlic.
There were plenty of potatoes at the store when I went last Saturday. One thing I noticed: The soup section had a lot of bare shelves.
That Florida Man’s check list looks like it was written by a 12 year old. Seems about right.
He was trying to throw the feds off the track
He should have had his FBI handler write it for him.
“Among the contents of his backpack was a black helmet painted with red logos, similar to the headwear worn by protestors in Portland, police said…He lived with his parents and siblings, and previously spent a few months in Portland, police said.”
Might be antifa.
“What are rebelling against?”
“What do you got?”
Since the “red logos” weren’t described as “far-right symbols,” that’s a good bet.
More like written by a Fed. This guy actually wrote to himself as side notes “TIP: No logos and Keep gear concealed!”. Really? He needed to write that down? Did he build a flashing sign on the top of his building that says “No violent radical activists live here”. I don’t think my eyes could roll back in my head any farther.
Today, in baffling labor shortages
About 24% of US hospitals are reporting a “critical staffing shortage,” according to data from the US Department of Health and Human Services, as public health experts warn the Covid-19 surge fueled by the Omicron variant threatens the nation’s health care system.
“Given how much infection there is, our hospitals really are at the brink right now,” Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health, told CNN on Sunday.
——-
“The health care system is not just designed to take care of people with Covid … it’s designed to take care of kids with appendicitis and people who have heart attacks and get into car accidents,” he said.
“And all of that is going to be much, much more difficult because we have a large proportion of the population that is not vaccinated, plenty of high risk people who are not boosted,” he said. “That combination sets up a large pool of people who as they get infected will end up really straining the resources we have in the hospitals today.”
These staff shortages are growing as frontline health care workers are either infected or forced to quarantine due to exposure to Covid-19 just as the demand for treatment skyrockets: More than 138,000 Covid-19 patients were in US hospitals as of Saturday, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. That’s not far from the all-time peak (about 142,200 in mid-January 2021) and an increase from around 45,000 in early November.
Allow a healthy unvaccinated doctor or nurse to treat you? We’d rather see you dead.
No, give me the vaccinated sick nurse.
Meanwhile, actual hospital administrators are saying that many (most?) of their plague victims were admitted for other reasons.

GT was seeking the weather report from you.
Im on a compulsory vacation this week, so my sleep-wake schedule is already messed up.
I am back from burning 3 weeks of vacation time. I got one heck of a tan and feel I need to go back into the water since I spent so much of it under it looking at stuff. Hardest part was not being able to drink cause I did so many deep dives. I am gonna make up for that this week though.
I used to work with a guy that was fanatical about diving. He used to claim that a couple beers after a day spent under was money well-spent, since you’d get drunk faster.
That’s true… Especially if you do deep dives. Problem is I was doing 2 or 3 dives a day most of the time and only had a couple of days here & there without one allowing me to not drink more than a couple of times during a 3 week stretch.
Dude almost always had a tank of welder’s grade oxygen in his truck. I was told he was very aggressive with he decompression, and didn’t mind being a little bent. Then again, he was at CrossFit levels of diving fanaticism.
In my younger years I didn’t much give a shit about it either cause my body easily recovered. These days reality has forced me to admit if I do what I used to I am just looking for a stroke or hemorrhage incident and the consequences of that shit.

I survived a rear of boat trailer-side of car sandwich. I am fortunate the door panel gave. I don’t recommend the experience.
Ouch! Sounds like you got very lucky.
I was fortunate I was smaller and was standing in front of the car door. The impact of the trailer bumper was mid thigh and the door panel gave enough. Nasty bruises but no breaks. I was able to walk it off. My father waived the no-profanity rule.
I was in the passenger seat of a soft-top HMMWV when a hard shell HMMVW backed into my door. stopped about 6″ short of crushing me. Bruised and swollen elbow and a door with about a 45 degree bend in it were the extent of the damage.

I am confused why conservatives are running wild with this story. Unless Henig has started testosterone, Thomas should have won?
Guy at the American Thinker point out that if “he” even got his average time he would’ve won that meet. It was actually a strangely way off competition for the UPenn swimmer.
I hadn’t looked it up but I was wondering how Thomas’ times compared to past events. I guess having no boobs may have been advantageous to Henig over the other “natural” female competitors.
I was referring to the UPenn swimmer. Should’ve won and has better normal times.
It was a strange collapse.
Did Thomas still beat all the biological female competitors? Perhaps Thomas was sandbagging for some reason.
Yes, just not in every race.
I think they use silicon at this point, not sand.
– 1O₂
Maybe Lia was having cramps.
I’m guessing complacency and entitlement. At the earlier competition, lia bragged that “she” hadn’t even really trained hard or pushed herself(?) much and had still won.
Maybe F2M is the best female swimmer to have ever existed, given that M2F was creaming all the ladies, and/or hacking off the twins provides a significant advantage.
F2M has not taken hormones yet so some people are arguing this undermines the narrative.
Is there anyone whatsoever that disputes that biological males have a natural athletic advantage however? This seems to be an obvious truth that can’t be undermined.
Yes…major news agencies are stating there isn’t much science behind that.
Are you effing kidding me?
“,,,given that M2F was creaming all the ladies…”
You may owe me a new keyboard.

I’m still confused.
So are they.
Civil war is coming
The right has recognized that the system is in collapse, and it has a plan: violence and solidarity with treasonous far-right factions
——-
Two things are happening at the same time. Most of the American right have abandoned faith in government as such. Their politics is, increasingly, the politics of the gun. The American left is slower on the uptake, but they are starting to figure out that the system which they give the name of democracy is less deserving of the name every year.
An incipient illegitimacy crisis is under way, whoever is elected in 2022, or in 2024. According to a University of Virginia analysis of census projections, by 2040, 30% of the population will control 68% of the Senate. Eight states will contain half the population. The Senate malapportionment gives advantages overwhelmingly to white, non– college educated voters. In the near future, a Democratic candidate could win the popular vote by many millions of votes and still lose. Do the math: the federal system no longer represents the will of the American people.
The right is preparing for a breakdown of law and order, but they are also overtaking the forces of law and order. Hard right organization have now infiltrated so many police forces – the connections number in the hundreds – that they have become unreliable allies in the struggle against domestic terrorism.
Have I abandoned the government, or has the government abandoned me?
The Will of the People is a tissue thin facade. What we need to concern ourselves with now is The Will of the Government.
What sort of country allows people who are not assimilated into the hive mind to work for government and law enforcement agencies? That’s crazy.
How dare we allow any minority to have a say!
Senate malapportionment
Somebody doesn’t understand the American system of government.
That appears to be the norm.
The founding fathers were stupid to reject mob rule as the basis of their government. Now look we are.
I find it insane how so many people of the so called democratic world cannot see the issue with the vast power politickers have these days with literally zero accountability.

I have personal experience of this being the case.
Has long been my suspicion.
Personal experience: I am completely unvaccinated, my wife is vaxxed and boostered. Over Christmas we were exposed to Covid, a few days later we both got sick. I had a very mild cough and congestion for one day and then was fine. My wife has been quite ill (bad cough, headache, bad congestion, fever, chills, etc.) for at least 10 days, and since she tested positive at the hospital where she works she can’t return to work until the 14th.
We’re passing what is likely covid around the house now. For me it was essentially an annoying sinus infection with a lingering cough. For wife, it was chills and body aches. For the 1 year old, it’s a bad cold. For the 4 year old it’s just a bit of fatigue.
Granted, we have been sick on and off since November, so God only knows which symptoms are associated with which virus. Thanks to all the distancing and lockdowns, viruses are coming home from preschool, the gym, and wherever else one after the other in waves.
Oops, edited the text before submitting and forgot to add the punchline.
The whole point is that (assuming we’re passing covid around) were all unvaxxed and have different symptoms. it’s a weird virus, and it’s hard to tell why the symptoms are different person to person.
I don’t disagree, and of course anecdotes are not data, but it seems quite striking to me that my vaxxed/boosted wife (who is also 10 years younger than me) was hit so much harder than me by what is the same Covid virus, especially in light of reading things like the above Steve Kirsch article. Could just be coincidence/luck, but it is certainly something worth investigating.
Yup agreed. It has been mild-to-moderate for us. I’ve heard so many horror stories from vaxxed friends about being laid up for days, unable to function. The anecdotal correlation has caught my attention, too.
Trashy—Same thing happened with my family. 3 people had it as far as the at home tests told us, and all 3 had very different symptoms. Wife was just tired, daughter had sore throat and headache, I was just weak and feverish for 3 days. Weird stuff.
Ive told my experience here many times. But that pesky, engineered, Fauci gain-of-function funded, bug knocked my dick in the dirt for 2 weeks.
Even after my symptoms receded and I was more “normal”, I would still get out of breath just getting dressed.
Fuck that little garden gnome for what he did. Hanging is too good for him. Drawn & Quartered with some horses, however, has some appeal…

At this supreme moment of crisis, the left has divided into warring factions completely incapable of confronting the seriousness of the moment. There are liberals who retain an unjustifiable faith that their institutions can save them when it is utterly clear that they cannot. Then there are the woke, educational and political elites dedicated to a discourse of willed impotence. Any institution founded by the woke simply eats itself – see TimesUp, the Women’s March, etc – becoming irrelevant to any but a diminishing cadre of insiders who spend most of their time figuring out how to shred whoever’s left. They render themselves powerless faster than their enemies can.
What the American left needs now is allegiance, not allyship. It must abandon any imagined fantasies about the sanctity of governmental institutions that long ago gave up any claim to legitimacy. Stack the supreme court, end the filibuster, make Washington DC a state, and let the dogs howl, and now, before it is too late. The moment the right takes control of institutions, they will use them to overthrow democracy in its most basic forms; they are already rushing to dissolve whatever norms stand in the way of their full empowerment.

Fun Fact! He was going to Miami to see his godparents who live there (we have those things in Romania in the wedding ceremony). It would be entirely possible for the United States to implement a modern electoral system, to restore the legitimacy of the courts, to reform its police forces, to root out domestic terrorism, to alter its tax code to address inequality, to prepare its cities and its agriculture for the effects of climate change, to regulate and to control the mechanisms of violence. All of these futures are possible. There is one hope, however, that must be rejected outright: the hope that everything will work out by itself, that America will bumble along into better times. It won’t. Americans have believed their country is an exception, a necessary nation. If history has shown us anything it’s that the world doesn’t have any necessary nations.
The United States needs to recover its revolutionary spirit, and I don’t mean that as some kind of inspirational quote. I mean that, if it is to survive, the United States will have to recover its revolutionary spirit. The crises the United States now faces in its basic governmental functions are so profound that they require starting over. The founders understood that government is supposed to work for living people, rather than for a bunch of old ghosts. And now their ghostly constitution, worshipped like a religious document, is strangling the spirit that animated their enterprise, the idea that you mold politics to suit people, not the other way around.
If the Founders had believed the nation would thrive under totalitarian rule, they would have anointed

I seem to recall that there is an amendment process built in to the government’s founding document.
Damnit
It can’t be real, it’s not in our dictionary.
These people are a parody of themselves.
Six months ago, I was pooh-pooh-ing the notion of civil war, for the simple reason that people have too much to lose.
Well, another year of the New Normal, run by people like Stephen Marche, and I can easily see blood in the streets.
The truth is that the sane, civilized, answer is national divorce or disunion. If guys like Marche really want to be able to govern themselves with untrammeled majority will they’d be free to do so in a nation free of those terrible right-wingers. The only price is that they have to let those right-wingers peacefully establish their own nation. Really, unless their goal is that of an abusive spouse, there’s really not a whole lot of reason for people like him to oppose the idea.
And let go over the power to lord over others? Pssshaw
That does seem to be their attitude. I can’t help but wonder if they’ve thought through how that plays out in their heads.
Pretty much half the country finds this sort of guy and the rule he wants to impose on them repulsive. And, so far, the only response from guys like him has been to double down. If that trend continues unabated, guys like Marche might wind up yearning wistfully for the prospect of peaceful separation.
I can’t help but wonder if they’ve thought through how that plays out in their heads.
Of course they have, we all fall on our knees and bless them for redeeming us.
Oh, you mean the other way it plays out. No they haven’t really considered that. Why should they – they have the best intents and everyone knows that is all that matters in making policy.
They also have the nuclear arsenal. Swallwell (?) said so.
Sure, and where are they going to use them? The cities are all the most vulnerable spots. Say, you’ve got a fly to kill – here, use this sledgehammer.
If you love someone, let them go. Since they clearly don’t love the terrible right wingers they can never let them go.
They only hit us ’cause they love us. They don’t want to do it but it’s for our own good.
Look at a red/blue voting distribution map. Unless you can gerrymander the blue parts out, there cannot be a national divorce.
^^ this. There is some geographic variegation, but the primary axis of divide these days is urban/rural, with the suburbs increasingly shifting from red to purple.
Until there is a solution for the Chicago problem, let alone the Ames problem, there will be no national divorce.
The Federated City-States of America.
I understand your point. And I suspect that you’re right inasmuch as there’s no way to do it without a lot of pain. Mostly, it would wind up drawing the dividing lines at some states and letting the people choose between moving and living as a majority in the others’ country.
Yeah, that sucks.
The problem is, in the long run, I just don’t see an alternative. Yeah, we can return to a robust federalism that restricts the federal government to its delegated authorities. And if I could get guys like Marche to sign up on that one, I’d do so in a heartbeat. But, do you see anything in what he wrote that might give you an iota of an inkling that he might support that? Because it’s getting worse. Red & Blue aren’t really just political identifiers anymore (if they ever truly were). They’re increasingly indicators of two different cultures, of two different peoples. And, as long as you have a powerful, centralized government, control of that powerful, centralized government is going to become an increasingly bitter point of contention between the two. So much so, that neither is ever likely to view control by the other as legitimate. And, if you don’t find a way to short circuit that (e.g. separation), it will eventually get very, very, very ugly.
Gah!
That should read “…living as a minority in the others’ country.”
I see national divorce is only a hair’s breadth more effective than convincing the commie totalitarians to come around on liberty and personal responsibility. If history is an indicator, we have another few years of increasing animus before some event pushes us into the realm of violence. National divorce would be akin to the 1850 compromise, extending the peace for a few years at best.

BS
I’m wondering if some of the lawyers here can help me with a question (not about the law). In reading on occupational licensure, I ran across a few articles arguing that the bar exam should be eliminated and the field could just rely on law degrees. But, doesn’t that have it backwards? I mean, it seems like law school would be a bigger artificial barrier to entry than the bar exam. And the bar would be a fairer “standardized” test than law school. Plus, there’s a long tradition in the U.S. of lawyers practicing without college degrees, let alone law degrees.
Is there something I’m missing?
Bring back apprenticeship and keep a bar but have law school also for those that want that path.
I would trust a 25 year old dentist that has been apprenticing since 16 than a 25 year old dentist that failed out of medical school.
CA still permits your way AFAIK (NAL), though obviously infrequent. Worked for Frank Abagnale in LA.
Is there something I’m missing?
Law is peak credentialism. You think those Yale law grads are going to let go of that glorious preftige without a fight? I see job postings daily that restrict on having attended a “top law school”. World tennis number one Novak Djokovic tweeted a picture of himself practicing at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena hours after winning a court challenge on Monday to remain in Australia.
The fight over his medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccination may not be over, however, as the Australian government said it was still considering another move to deport him.
——-
A spokesman for Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said he was considering using his broad discretionary powers he is given by Australia’s Migration Act to again revoke Djokovic’s visa.
If we cannot rely on the law to reach the correct verdict, we must be prepared to do away with it.
Seems to be a popular way of looking at things.

Dear extra-chromosome DNC activists,
When threatening, slandering, intimidating and harassing someone whose vote you desperately need, you might want to consider that he represents a state in which Biden didn’t win a single county and lost by 40 points overall.
They fully expect people to torpedo their own careers just like they did for Obamacare.

“Armor of a soldier wounded by a cannonball at the battle of Waterloo in 1815.”
https://twitter.com/TheFigen/status/1478088634683334666
It was just a flesh wound.
That’s gonna leave a mark.
I’m going to doubt. That looks like it was hit empty, not with a person in it.
But what would an empty breastplate be doing on the battlefield to get hit by a cannon ball?
I’m not going to assume it was hit on a battlefield.
Ah, so you figure the entire story is bullshit. Could be.
I can just see a couple of guys with a cannon fooling around and putting a hole in a “borrowed” cuirass.
I don’t see that as people supplied their own armor then, and it was expensive. Borrowing one and fooling around seems unlikely.
Couple of things:
1. It has retained too much of its shape to have been hit at anything other than extreme velocity. If it were hit at low velocity (say, far downrange) it would be more crushed and ripped. The fact that it looks like it kept its torso shape indicates it was supported somehow and hit at very high velocity. It could have been a test article supported with a mannequin of sorts.
2. If it were a hit in combat, it would more likely have been at long range, at least long enough that the projectile velocity would have been lower. Cannon of the post-Napoleonic era have been measured at muzzle velocities of between 1200 and 1720 ft/s.
Based on the above, I’d think this was either a test article (perhaps unlikely given the ornamentation on the armor), some artillerists fucking around with a captured set of armor, or perhaps a bad accident (someone walking in front of a cannon that hang-fired, for instance.
I think borrowed meant taken from a dead guy on the battlefield
Sounds legit.
Fair enough.
Then it really is deceptive to label it as coming from someone ‘wounded’ by a cannonball.
Wounded implies survival. That descriptor is the piece that triggered the chain of doubt.
If they’d gone with ‘killed’, that would not have induced as much incredulity.
And they wouldn’t have gotten their 15 minutes of fame on the internet.
I think db is onto something – that looks high-velocity, meaning, pretty close range. Cannons at the time had varying loads depending on range – the big cannonballs – like that one – were long-range, and ideally “skipped” along the ground through the enemy formation. Medium range was grape shot. Short range was “canister” – basically musket balls.
Its unlikely somebody would have been shot at close range with a full-size cannonball.
Also, I think those cuirasses were worn by horsemen, not foot soldiers (not 100% on this one). That looks like a “pigeon-chest” cuirass, which is angled in the front to deflect musketballs, and cuirassiers were cavalry. Not sure how that would play into the analysis.
Have at you!

What happens if/when a large organized group of “counterdemonstrators” shows up in Portland if antifa lays siege to the federal courthouse again this summer?
People who mean business.
Well, it’s Portland, so a large contingent of people opposed to Antifa is pretty unlikely.
Well, this is what happened to groups that antifa showed up to confront. No one is going to show up to confront them, besides police.
https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2021/12/judge-sends-self-proclaimed-proud-boy-alan-swinney-to-prison-for-10-years-citing-his-lack-of-remorse.html
Hard to say.
The big obstacle that the right has struggled with, is an inability to get feet on the ground. I don’t care if you and your buddies are a Special Forces OD/A straight out of the sandbox, you’re not going to have any success counter-protesting a couple hundred AFA ops.
On the rare occasion where the right does show up in quantity. with some degree of organizations, the Antifa people generally stay away. They know not to engage the enemy where he’s strong.
Targeting antifa and their allies directly would be more effective,if you’re really want to go down the violence rabbit hole.
Pretty much this, even for direct action of the non-violent kind. Hit their infrastructure, their comms channels, identify and dox the planners and paymasters, etc. Any of these will have much more payoff than counter protesting.
“Garret James Smith, 22, was arrested near a January 6 protest carrying a handmade bomb believed to be filled with nails”

“Connecticut asks nursing homes to accept COVID-positive admissions from hospitals
Nursing homes are being asked to accept COVID-positive admissions from hospitals, according to a new guidance from the Department of Public Health, even as positivity rates within nursing homes are increasing sharply.
The latest guidance from the DPH is an indication that the state is trying to alleviate the growing crush of COVID-19 cases in hospitals as they near record numbers of patients.
Until Thursday, the health department required any patient transferred from a hospital to a long-term care facility to have a negative COVID test performed in the hospital within 48 hours of their transfer, but that requirement is now waived.”

WTF?
We’ve seen this movie.
Some horror franchises should end.
The CT government is mad at the healthcare cost cutting the state of NY managed to achieve by implementing Cuomo’s policy with that move, and is copying them on it…
I guess they’re just going to keep doing the same shit over and over until all of the old folks are killed off. Why not set up field hospital tents or something if space is at such a premium?
Its not space that’s the problem. Its staffing. Field hospital tents don’t solve staffing.
I heard an assertion the other day that hospitals tend to carry ICUs at about 80%-90% capacity all the time to optimize expenses. As demand rises, more sections are dedicated as ICU space; as demand falls, those areas are mothballed/converted to lesser intensity care. The idea was that arguments that ICU space is near full are specious because of this operational fact.
Is that true, generally?
Yes, it is.
The difference between an ICU room and a general med/surg room is negative pressure ventilation. During the big surge last hear, we had jerry-rigged HEPA ventilation equipment outside of repurposed general med/surg units. Its not that hard to repurpose a general med/surg room as an ICU room.
ICUs also have different staffing – generally one nurse per two patients. General med/surg units have one nurse for between 4 – 6 patients. ICU nurses also should have some additional training, although that’s also solvable. Staffing is still the limiting factor.
And, yes, hospitals are happiest with 85 – 90% ICU capacity. Just enough slack to take new patients as they turn up.
Thanks for the answer. All this seems like a chapter out of “How To Lie with Statistics.”
I mean sure why not? Gotta stick to your guns and never change your science or understanding. That is the new SCIENCE!
Trust the experts they were not wrong until now
Like New York, they will see better numbers after they kill off the old people.

The Brits are going to have to prove they own them every forty years or so looks like, the Argentines only need to prove it once. Maybe we should give them a nuke and let them declare their independence.
I would have thought saber rattling during the period when the Brits *didn’t* have an operational carrier (I think QE is up and running with some F-35’s now, isn’t she?) would have made more sense.
Yeah, but…F35s.

Do any restaurants make french fries in beef tallow anymore?
Only locally owned ones I would think. Damn shame as McDonalds fries used to be straight up world class.
There is a local place called Oink Moo Cluck that sells fries fried in duck fat. Unfortunately, they seem to always be delivered cold.
Five Guys only uses peanut oil – I don’t eat much fast food but theirs seem to be the best in my occasional sampling.
Around here their fries tend to come out soggy. I don’t think they’re frying them right.
They are single frying them then. You really have to screw things up if you double fry and they still come out soggy.
See also, In-N-Out.
Hey! I admit, they are soggy, but the first 2 minutes are glorious. Anything after that they are trash.
That’s been my experience as well. I’ve never been impressed with Five Guys’ fries.
I assume fancy places do the triple cooked thing with boil, fry once in duck/beef fat, fry again is some high smoke point oil
There is place in BedStuy, Brooklyn that cooks its fries in duck fat.
duck-fat fries are teh tits yo
Oh yeah. The gastropub next door does duck fat fries. Makes it worth eating in a place that calls itself a gastropub.
Some places use duck fat, but it’s $$$
I always save my duck fat just for cooking potatoes.

The longer schools remain closed because of COVID-related issues, the more Democrats are feeling the pressure from weary parents who are fed up with the closures and remote learning. The New York Times reported that Democrats are concerned that school closing will hurt them politically.
Maybe you should have thought of that. But on the other hand, I like seeing the power of teachers’ unions broken.
Why do teachers even have a union? They are college-educated professionals.
They’re unskilled and easily replaced. ?
That’s because they have a union. Make them like accountants or engineers.

Yes, Boeing’s engineers are unionized from what I recall.

Systemic racism is real, just not how the left means.
Like all their plans, it is projection and rebuilding in their world view. To save democracy, we have to destroy it. To combat systemic racism, we have to engage in it. To fight crime, we have to ignore it and reward it. It is dangerous.
“Burn it all down” is straight from the play book. I wonder if people will catch on.

Amazon’s Fallout TV series is about to enter production
New location, NCR, DC, or Boston?
Hmm. So good writing as Falling Skies (I know, aliens, but still end of the world)? Good plot and some good characters as in Revolution? Or overall just terrible like Jericho where you had potential?
Falling Skies was really good for a while.
We quit watching when the woman had the alien baby and went crazy.
That was about where I stopped too.
It was a shame too, because it was so well done until that point.
New Vegas is the best Fallout setting.
For a TV show it would make the best sense too. You have all the players already written for you to create long story arcs with.
Yes. Not only is the setting the best, the characters and story are written far better than the other installments.
Oppulance of New Vegas, shithole of Freeside, Mormans!, racist legion, super mutants just chillin up in Mount Charleston…what isn’t to like.
The main reason I agree is that it shows more evidence that in the ~200 years since the bombs fell, something has happened. People aren’t just sitting around their craters acting like the world blew up yesterday, history is continuing.
Also, Yes!
With her as one of two showrunners, I wouldn’t hold much hope. Tomb Raider was forgettable (at best), despite having 3 video-games-that-desperately-wanted-to-be-movies to draw from in the reboot. Nuff said about Captain Marvel to begin with.
And slightly out of thread — yeah, “the world rebuilding already” is a big reason Fallout 3 (and to a lesser extent 4) are annoying when you think about them. If they’d been set 20 or 30 years after the bombs hit, maybe they’d work — but 200? Folks are really just squatting in the same ruins and no one’s trying to build anything again? And scavenging for the same old 200 year old salisbury steak / perfectly preserved pies? Not to mention the weird weird idea in 3 that water is just magically irradiated. DC being a former swamp / the East Coast being a lot more temperate (and so shouldn’t look like the West Coast) and all the rain / rivers having washed the radiation away after 200 years and all…..
Just repeat to yourself it’s just a game… I should really just relax…..
Manchin told reporters this week that he is no longer involved in discussions with the White House and has signaled privately that he is not interested in approving any legislation like President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Package, the newspaper said, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.

I’m not sure I believe that.
Yeah, I keep hearing these generalities, and yes women, but also quite a few men, feel very content to share other people’s shit, but in general my experience is that they are not very inclined to share their own shit. It’s always about sharing other people’s stuff.. Especially through government. The new sugar daddy.
Its almost as if people are diverse beings in the wrong ways.
AOC Tests Positive for Coronavirus
That’s what she gets for visiting the covid hellhole that is Florida.
DeSantis tried to kill her by not imposing mask mandates. He should be arrested immediately.
So have you Glibronis made fun of the fact that after AOC was outed as partying in FL without her mask at some event and the left got their panties in a bunch and she accused the right of just wanting to bang here and being mad she wouldn’t let them do that, she now has tested positive for the Kung Flu? Karma is a bitch… Tripple vaxxed and all, but she didn’t wear her chin talisman, and now she has the Coof….
Yes, even pointed out it was just cause the vid wanted to date her.
Wonder if the Kung Flu is hate banging her or if it is all soft sweet love…
Even the Kung Flu is wishing it had a muzzle?
“She puts on the lotion or she gets the hose”….
She thought Republicans wanted to fuck her, but it was COVID that did.
Black was charged in 2020 on two counts of providing a firearm to a minor. He purchased an AR-15 rifle for Rittenhouse, who was 17 years old when he brought the gun to a riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse was too young to purchase the gun legally at the time.
I have questions about such a charge.
Even the plea seems weird, but hey, Black is getting off with nothing really, so a win sorta.
Getting out of *any* legal hassle for two grand and no record, is like the deal of the century.
Rekieta has a good explanation of why the charge is probably BS and unsupportable, but also why the plea deal is a very good one for Black. I’d be tempted to take it to trial, but it’d likely be an expensive mistake.
My problem is that the law seems odd, assuming it is as represented here. Would it be considered criminal “providing a firearm to a minor” for a parent to give a gun to a child to go hunting?
Considering its perfectly legal in Wisconsin for a 17 year old to carry a long gun in public, for just that reason, it may have something to do with loaning v straw purchase.
It was never really a straw purchase because a legal transfer between Black and Rittenhouse never happened. There’s a timing aspect to defining a straw purchase. If someone buys a gun, even with someone else’s money (as in this case), but they keep the gun at their house, in a safe, and only allow the person who paid for it to handle/use it under their supervision, it’s still their gun, and a transfer has not taken place (there are some shitty states that want to define a “transfer” to include just handing a gun to someone). Months later, even loaning that gun to the person who paid for it, is not a transfer. You might be able to make that claim within a few days or weeks of the purchase, but the longer the arrangement goes on, the less it looks like a “transfer” for the purpose of determining a straw purchase.
but, as always, I am Not a Lawyer. This is certainly not legal advice, only my opinion.
AOC Tests Positive for Coronavirus
She did everything right!
Police arrested a man as he fled a Capitol riot rally in Florida carrying a backpack containing a homemade pipe bomb, combat helmet, and handwritten action plan.
Speaking of fake pipe bombs what ever happened to that Seminole “pipe bomber” from Florida?
Professionally printed action plans are more effective.
Office masking is back with a vengeance. I have heard several people cough into their masks. I’m sure that is healthy.
It has been recommended that employees get the clot shot or get “boosted”. Lost is any identification or understanding that the whole thing is a farce and that “fully vaccinated” is a fake term with dodgy goal posts.
I thought the left dropped the term “fully vaccinated” for the new term “vaccine compliant” or some such bullshit just like they dropped “global warning” for “climate change” cause the whole warming thing not happening was proving they were idiots.
I thought they were keeping the term but moving the goalposts. Currently double booster is the goal. Anything short of that is attempted murder.
They were recently called on that goalpost movement, so they changed the term I thought. O well, the point is that this shit will never end as long as these totalitarians have enough sheep that will keep allowing them to keep telling them thaat they have to accept a system where the rules can change from day to day and they need to be happy with that shit.
1984 was NOT a “How to” manual you fucking leftist idiots…
An office lady is currently arguing that “nobody ever said the jab would keep you from getting COVID”
I’m old enough to remember when they were saying exactly that, but she doesn’t believe me.
Just quote the president.
And you can go back a little further and quote half of Congress saying they’ll never take the Trump shot.
Orwell knew that type well enough.
It is a shame when you are unwittingly fooled by bad actors, but it is a whole new level of stupid/evil when you not only willingly accept people making a fool of you and lying to you, but then work hard to help propagate the ever changing lies they tell you is the new reality….
At least they aren’t ripping their masks off to cough. Which I have seen more times that I can count, and completely negates the entire (purported) reason for masking.
Coffee and Covid
Some interesting points and actually some hope.
I wouldn’t be shocked if the branch covidians turn on a dime and support the “mission accomplished” narrative. I would be disappointed, but not surprised.
I think it’s more likely they’ll run the FLURONA!! narrative and see if that doesn’t scare the ones who are finally getting tired of this back under their thumb.
They will definitely not give up easily.
They will also never admit they were wrong.
“The science changed”
Very interesting, thanks.
And yes, the whiplash is going to be epic.
Chez Mojeaux has been hit with a cold. A normal, run-of-the-mill cold. Everybody went about their normal business except XX, who called in sick two days.
How do I know it isn’t OMGicron? I don’t. But I don’t care enough to get tested because what’s the point?
That’s going on here too. The Mrs. has had really stuffy sinuses for a few days now. She has no plans of being tested, and I’m going about my life as normal. If I get symptoms I’ll re-evaluate. Even my hockey team is getting really hands off about the whole thing. About half my team has tested positive in the past 2 weeks. Our new policy is to stay home if you’re sick, if you test positive give it 5 days before coming back.
^^^ This is was household. No one was deathly ill, it is normal pre 2020 symptoms, we hydrated, medicated, took our vitamins and moved the hell on and did not become a statistic.
I saw an ad that said “If you’re sick, assume it’s Omicron and quarantine for two weeks”
*points at Moj and makes the Invasion of the Body Snatchers sound*
But I don’t care enough to get tested because what’s the point?
A-freaking-men!
I don’t care enough to get tested because what’s the point
Precisely. What, exactly, are you going to do differently if you know your respiratory infection is COVID? You should stay home, regardless. The home treatment protocol is the same, regardless.
The only thing a positive COVID test gets you (before hospitalization) is access to monoclonal antibodies, if you decide you want them.
Oh, and paid vacation that isn’t charged against your PTO, if that’s how your employer rolls.
I will honestly say I don’t mind wearing a mask if *I* am sick. That’s just polite.
My boss made me work, but she is a bitch.

Just like when CNN “discovered” China’s COVID numbers (which were flat, while the rest of the world was showing increases) weren’t accurate.

They will raise us up out of ignorance and sin, or destroy us in the attempt.
Honestly, I’m not so sure they even care about the salvation part. There’s a temptation to frame the progressives in a traditional Christian framework. But, what if their mindset is more Gnostic? What if their fight isn’t to “convert the heathens”, but to destroy the evil, with good & evil being inherent traits? Remember, progressives are the ones who took to the notion that Darwinism invalidated the idea that all men are created equal. If you believe in innate inequality, I think you could arrive at a conclusion that the bad should be purged.
