This week’s article isn’t entirely on topic but it’s close enough. In doing my “research” some weeks, I occasionally come across nootropics. I didn’t know what they are not what they claim to do. So, this is the week to go down the rabbit hole.
What Are Nootropics?
Nootropics, sometimes called smart drugs or cognitive enhancers, are drugs, supplements, and other substances that are claimed to improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, attention, memory, creativity, or motivation, in healthy individuals. In other words, these substances claim to enhance what you have. They don’t cure any condition.
Nootropics range from commonly known to exotic sounding substances. Below is a smattering of nootropics and their effects.
Caffeine
Caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive substance in the world. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors in your brain, making you feel less tired. A low to moderate caffeine intake of 40–300 mg increases your alertness and attention and decreases your reaction time. These doses are especially effective for people who are fatigued.
L-Theanine
L-theanine is a naturally occurring amino acid found in tea, but it can also be taken as a supplement. Several studies have shown that taking 200 mg of L-theanine has a calming effect, without causing drowsiness. Taking even just 50 mg — the amount found in roughly two cups of brewed tea — has been found to increase alpha-waves in the brain, which are linked to creativity.
L-theanine is even more effective when taken with caffeine. For this reason, they’re often used together in performance-enhancing supplements. What’s more, they are both naturally found in tea. Kudos British Empire.
Creatine
Creatine is an amino acid, which your body uses to make protein. It’s a popular bodybuilding supplement that promotes muscle growth but is also beneficial for your brain. After it’s consumed, creatine enters your brain where it binds with phosphate, creating a molecule that your brain uses to quickly fuel its cells. This increased availability of energy for your brain cells is linked to improved short-term memory and reasoning skills, especially in vegetarians and highly stressed people. I’m a highly stressed vegetarian. It’s time to start taking it again.
Rhodiola Rosea
Rhodiola rosea is an adaptogenic herb that helps your body handle stress more effectively. Several studies have found that Rhodiola rosea supplements can improve mood and decrease feelings of burnout in both anxious and highly stressed individuals. Taking small daily doses of Rhodiola rosea has been shown to reduce mental fatigue and increase feelings of well-being in college students during stressful exam periods.
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba supplements have been shown to improve memory and mental processing in healthy older adults when taken daily for six weeks. Taking Ginkgo biloba before a highly stressful task also reduces stress-related high blood pressure and decreases levels of cortisol.
It’s hypothesized that some of these benefits may be due to increased blood flow to the brain.
Nicotine
Good news smokers, you are already consuming nootropics! We all know it’s found in tobacco. It’s also found in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant, and green pepper. It must be much lower in other plants since I have never heard of anyone becoming addicted to vegetables.
Studies show that nicotine’s effects include improved alertness and attention, especially in people with naturally poor attention spans. It has also been found to improve motor function. What’s more, chewing nicotine gum is linked to better handwriting speed and fluidity. Maybe Dr. Nick can administer it to kids with ADHD.
This week’s music is definitely about other drugs. I’m old enough to remember Nancy Reagan telling kids, “Don’t do drugs.” I suspect she was as good a drug salesman as Obama was a gun salesman. If you want kids to avoid drugs, this is how you do it.

I stand corrected.
I love that episode for mentioning the fad diet that was sweeping New Orleans at the time, Sugarbusters!
This week’s article isn’t entirely on topic but it’s close enough.
We’re supposed to be on topic?
Weight is 273.8 lbs. I deadlifted 115 lbs this week. I had no problems whatsoever with my back.
Since the thread died… I’ll repost this: Inflation? What Inflation?
I’m definitely going to be making a big deal about the inflation rate when I have my “merit increase” discussion with the director of my business unit in a few weeks.
Let’s just say my husband’s “market comparison” raise (“cost of living”) was minuscule bordering on insulting.
Yeah, that is going to be an uncomfortable conversation in March or April.
I already had to give the bad news to one of my employees whom I promoted. He didn’t say anything about it, but his raise associated with the promotion is practically canceled by inflation.
Frankly, I don’t think he noticed, because he’s politically in the “inflation? no such thing” camp.
I just finished putting a whole bunch of food in the fridge to brine/marinade.
I know it’s nine meals of meat, but I still feel fat just from having processed so much.
After a night of drinking (I suspect my definition of “heavy drinking” would cause most of you to burst into gales of laughter), a couple of grams of L-tyrosine really helps calm the ol’ neural cortex down and allows me to sleep properly; if I still feel rough the next morning I’ll take another gram or so with my morning coffee. Bonus: it’s dirt cheap.
L-theanine is what the SU takes to calm down “hamster brain” at night so she can drift off to sleep, and I take creatine after working out to help alleviate the symptoms of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). Can recommend both.
Nice music, my second favorite album from them but that spoken interlude is both dated and awful.
Thanks for the rice suggestion Chafed, and talked to the vet at length about diet and some other things. Given that it’s intermittent and is only occurring when deeply relaxed in sleep, he doesn’t think it’s a diet issue, and lab ruled out UTI, so likely issue is urethra muscle is not clamping as it should. We’re trying am estrogen now and see how she responds. Very happy we switched practices to follow our vet.
Our last pup had nighttime incontinence starting around 3 years old – estrogen (DES) cleared that right up.
If they’re spayed too young they can develop that due to, as you mention, the urethra muscle not developing properly.
Was on my mind, but she’s 13 so more likely due to aging than spaying.
I completely agree about the spoken interlude. Even when it first came out I was thinking WTF. The entire song, I thought, is about the futility of the drug war. Then he goes off about how comparatively little is spent on law enforcement. WTF? But I repeat myself.
Glad things are going well with your dog. Also glad the white rice worked.
Bless me, Chafed, for I have sinned.
For “Employee Appreciation Day” Friday, my employer sprang for breakfast, with each of our eight locations buying breakfast for the staff there. (We used to have a belated staff “Holiday Breakfast” all together at a banquet hall every January in the Before Times. ***SIGH!!!***) I was in charge of feeding our location, so I ordered from Panera, AKA “Carb Heaven.” I ended up eating an egg souffle (in a croissant crust,) a bagel and a half (in my defense, the whole bagel was for lunch,) and a croissant. And two glasses of orange juice.
I’m afraid to step on the scale now.
Put wedges under the edges.
Will that work on my tape measure too?
I you want a bigger number you can wedge the tape measure too.
But I doubt that’s what you’re after.
*Makes sign of the cross over GT* Go in peace my child.
Shouldn’t the be the sign of the t-bone?
Somewhat related: a shocking op-ed. Shocking in that it appears in the corporate press.
It is long, but it is excellent.
The Grope and Flail, Toronto’s National Newspaper™, actually allowed such opinion in its pages?
Mebbe The Narrative really is starting to collapse.
If I were wearing my tinfoil hat, I might think that this article is intended as cover for TPTB to allow the narrative to collapse.
Got any more of that tinfoil on ya?
That was excellent. I’m shocked a Canadian newspaper published it.
TLDR all of it yet but holy shit. Ya, that showing up in main stream press is shocking. Perhaps it is all unraveling. Now do financial ties to drug companies of those pushing vaccines. This has been the biggest con/theft in world history.
Wow, not just a silver bullet, but a silver 20mm cannon round.
Yes, this article is worth spreading far and wide.
The article is great but the most important thing about it is where it appeared.
Al Michaels is not GlibFit.
He’s 77. Gotta grade on a scale.
Al’s conduct concerning the NFL and woke nonsense gives him a pass.
#biohacking #FTW!
*misunderstands Mojeaux*
*revs up chainsaw*
Refs calling a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (including taunting). This is ridiculous.
“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM??? I’M TOM FUCKING BRADY!!!”
“As in, the Brady Bunch? You still resting on those laurels? Get a life, man.”
If you’re bleeding from the lip while complaining you got hit in the head, you have a good argument
^^^This, and I’m rooting for the Rams.
Also, the “taunting” call didn’t look like taunting to me. It looked like pissed-offedness.
He looked to be pissed that Stafford kicked him.
I didn’t see that part.
Neither did anyone else.
Or he bit his own lip when he got hit.
It’s like they’re looking for things to throw the flag for, as if they get paid per penalty.
Taking your helmet off is an automatic unsportsmanlike; the other two were questionable.
So I hit a plateau. Average weight loss is good, but not seeing the needle move every day has tested my patience. This is ususally the point where I throw up my hands and say, “Oh, what’s the use?”, but I really can’t afford to do that anymore. I haven’t taken care of my body well, and now that I’m older I have to work harder.
Keep at it!
Keep going and weigh yourself less frequently.
This. The scale doesn’t tell the whole story anyway.
Im in the same boat, the pounds arent coming off as fast as I would like, but I have lots of energy and my mood has been better than when I am on the carb rollercoaster. Keep at it.
I have to remember to take inventory of my mood and energy.
I have overdone my Splenda lemonade, so my ulcers tell me.
Currently watching this: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0313597/
My god, it is terrible. I only put it on cuz John Barrowman is in it. Not recommended.
I avoid his work, I find him annoying.
^^THIS.
I don’t mind him, my gf is a fan of his.
Ya know what else has lots of creatine? Meat!
I carbed out with way too many pistachios on my road trip but I am back on track now. Bone broth simmered for a good 24 hours and now I have beef barria crocking away nicely.
I’m currently on a hazelnut kick, with cashews as backup. Small portions.
There might be an unopened bag of pistachios too. The pantry is a bit of a mess. *shrug*
This reminds me … *scribbles “macadamia nuts” on grocery list*
Nuts are a weakness of mine. I find when I get into them too much I start craving other carbs. I have yet to make a full fall into a bag of cookies or anything but I could. When I abstain from them I don’t even think about carbs. It is weird how the mind works.
Thought we established you were willing to pay top dollar for nuts but bottom dollar for breasts.
?
You responded to that lame reply with a sweating forehead emoji?
…….flashes back to the zoom female plumbing discussion…….. emoji makes sense.
I made a pork shoulder in the crockpot today and discovered my crockpot has a crack. Lots of liquid on the counter. ?
?
Aaah shit! That sucks.
Sorry.
On the plus side, I don’t have to wash it.?
Make lemonade from lemons.
Bummer. So now it’s a croaked pot?
BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Taking Ginkgo biloba before a highly stressful task also reduces stress-related high blood pressure and decreases levels of cortisol.
I used to take that back when I thought I struggled with depression and anxiety. I finally figured out just don’t give a shit and that stuff kind of goes away. The cortisol thing though, I would like a doc to splain that to me someday. I have listened to it explained but still don’t fully grock what the body is doing. It is my understanding some of us dump cortisol in the mornings which jacks our BP.
I figured out who Gronk reminds me of, both on and off the field (he’s special)

LOVE HIM AND SQUEEZE HIM AND CALL HIM GEORGE!
Good Lord. It’s like you were there during our wedding night.
Legit LOL.
Not Princess Sofia?
OMG I saw that one yesterday – one of my all-time favorites.
Pretty much. But not quite as dopey as he plays off – he has never spent a paycheck, just lives off endorsement money.
I guess Jay Leno is his financial planner.
If I up my repayment rate on my mortgage, I can shave another two or three months off the schedule.
It’s not feasible to do it before my birthday though. That would have been an awsome present to myself.
I hate debt, but I think I recall you’re a short timer, so bank the extra cash: there’s no interest to be saved.
When you have the pile, pay it off. Meanwhile you’ve got cash and choices should something come up.
It’s risk and reward. Cash is king and minimizes risk by maximizing flexibility. On the other side of the ledger is: nothing gained.
Even if you were way out, I’d still suggest investing the cash in 10 year treasuries for all the same reasons.
I’m not convinced trasuries are going to pay more than the interest on the loan.
Being completely out of debt will be fantastic. Having said that, having a cash reserve is also important for your peace of mind. I suspect with so little left to pay, very little of each payment is interest.
By my math, I should be down to $40 interest per payment, but the principal reduction was off from the payment by $356. Tax and insurance escrow only adds up to $238/payment. I’m wondering where the remaining money went.
I started paying extra on my mortgage.
The loan servicing company fucked up too many property tax payments.
I thought about paying it off all in one fell swoop, but decided I liked the tax deduction too much. So, I compromised and just pay extra now.
I saved at least $200k in interest payments. I’m down to $12.5k owed. I want to be out of debt so badly. It’s something I’ve never achieved since living on my own.
I’m proud of you, UCS. Absolutely the right thing. Actually you invested 200K in your future.
Not sure what I’m going to do when I reach the goal.
Start saving up for a place with room for a forge?
He could live in a garage like Agent Sloper.
I will have to think seriously about what to do. Hopefully I will be able to give it time.
Buy bitcoin. Good for you! Seriously.
Great job UCS.
Thanks.
Not bad.
I have fiddled around with some nootropics, just the easy ones–I’m not getting into microdosing LSD or anything–that seems rife with potential for problems. I find that nicotine lozenges can help me focus when I need a little extra concentration, but I hardly ever use them because I get slightly nauseated by them. I try to stick to caffeine. I didn’t know about L-theanine before reading this article.
In general, I did some research a few years ago on nootropics and determined that the available data on most of them is inconclusive, and it’s not worth the trouble, expense, or risk in some cases, to try most of them. I generally try to stay away from pharmaceutical solutions to my problems to the extent possible.
I think that’s a good philosophy, but I am really warming to the idea of some of the psychedelics. It looks like one of the best ways to knock the needle of your skipping record into the next groove.
Totally agree about most research being inconclusive. I wish there was more so we knew what works and what doesn’t.
Who’s gonna research cheap stuff?
I know. In a perfect world, the government because there isn’t a market for it. In reality, no one. Where is an eccentric billionaire when you need one?
Well, perhaps someone like Bill Linton will eventually get into research on psychedelics as nootropics, but for now he seems focused on their use against PTSD. He’s not a billionaire, but he’s got the resources and interest.
That should be what grad students do. Work on your Doctorate, do lower-level research, and leave the bigger stuff to people with PhDs and are doing active research while teaching. But we have screwed that system up.
We nwws a return of the gentleman scientist where the science is for pure science and not their livelihood.
that’s an excellent idea. Linton, mentioned above, is using his considerable resources (his wealth and some bits of his biotech company) to do some groundbreaking research.
FUCK YOU, PUBLISH!
IMPACT!!
So, if I do nootropics I’ll no longer have any excuses.? I think I’ll skip and rely on others good will.
Chafed!
This is a fun topic. I use caffeine and creatine, but I think I’ll take a closer look at L-theanine. My supplement shelf is starting to look a little crowded, though.
Decent week. The weather has been nice, so I got all my walks/hikes in. Yesterday we did an easy hike up in Eldorado Canyon. 4.5 miles and only 400 feet of gain, but the scenery was amazing. I like trails that have a a variety of terrain. It sure is easier to maintain a walking habit when the sun is out.
My lifting was shitty this week. I am clearly not eating enough so I am going to track for awhile, especially protein. I find that as tedious as tracking can be, my adherence is so much better when I do. Gonna cook up a bunch of steaks and get back on track.
Have a great week Glibfitters!
Those two links are the same.
And you didn’t provide a link to a 1930s musical in response?!? You’re slipping.
I think he’s exaggerating the variety of terrain.
Fuck. Let’s try this again.
Looks gorgeous
Very pretty. I can see why you enjoy hiking.
Yeah, it’s been one of the best parts of this move.
Hmmm… mebby I can convince the wife I need to follow the great god nic-o-teen, to keep my mind sharp.
Yeah, don’t think that will work.
Working out was good this week, starting to concentrate on form, so my absolute numbers are down, but the effect is better. So far, so good.
Ate like shit this weekend, but b’day, so don’t really care. German food is gut! Jagershnitzle for the win. Dunkle by the liter is gut.
German food is gut! Jagershnitzle for the win. Dunkle by the liter is gut.
YES
I am getting closer to being able to do things again.
Yesterday I organized my garage a little, while I drank a couple beers. Didn’t feel too tired afterward. 2 weeks ago it would have knocked me on my ass without the beer.
Today I changed a vacuum hose on my car to clear the check engine light.
Going to try a run/walk tomorrow for a half hour and see how it goes.
You’re making good progress, Ron. Keep it up, let the body tell you when enough is enough.
It sounds better but how do we know without a balls status update?
I still have one swollen, but no pain.
Had an ultrasound Friday and see the urologist tomorrow.
He’s going to take a sample of the fluid to decide what’s next.
He says it’ll be numbed first, but it sounds like an ordeal.
Oy. Sorry Ron. I hope it’s painless.
Yikes!
I hope it goes ok, ron. You sure have earned your man badge the last few weeks.
Thanks, it’s hard not to be stubborn and try too much.
I’ve done that in the past and made it worse, trying to learn from my mistakes.
That’s good progress Ron.
My anti-epileptic drug, levetiracetam, is considered a nootropic.
I do miss the crazy creativity that came with temporal lobe epilepsy before I got diagnosed and medicated, but levetiracetam is a nice bonus.
It does lead to weirdly vivid dreams whenever they up the dosage, but that is kind of fun too.
That’s funny. That’s the same anti-epileptic medication my dog gets.
HE is taking DOG PASTE!!!OMG!!
Legit LOL!!
I’ve been good with the rowing every other day – at least 35 minutes, longer at times (50 yesterday).
I was pretty successful going to bed earlier I set my Fitbit to remind me at midnight and I drop what I’m doing at that point; I’ll drop it to 11:30 this week or next.
Managed to screw up my back somehow while sleeping – I was in bed and stretched and I felt something click. It’s been awful all week but slowly getting better until last night. Some yoga and stretching in my future.
I still need to work some weight into my routine – I have some dumbbells here so I’ll figure out something soon.
No idea about my weight I think it’s okay – I haven’t replaced the batteries in the scale yet…
Minute 2:17…………………Awesome.
That got an extended “Jeeeesus” from me.
Wife and I are like this right now
Did you see any of the forum messages for scheduling?
Picture this…
I’m getting the tee-hees about the fact that Tampa is losing to the Rams.
On the other hand, Brady has a while next quarter to go, so….
Rams are good, Tampa has major injury issues. Not shocking.
But if Brady pulls this off they have to build a dedicated Annex in the Hall of Fame
Shit. It’s only a two touchdown lead, and the Buccaneers just shut down that Rams drive like it was nothing.
Somewhere in Georgia, Matt Ryan has a chill running down his spine.
Still laughing?
Had some snow here, Smoke and Daisy loved it.
Good looking pups!
Beautiful doggies!
Awwww!!!
Aww, cuties
Nice.
These are playoff teams? lol
This is a nutty game.
Is this really a thing?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10432845/Michigan-school-district-denies-LITTER-BOXES-provided-students-identify-FURRIES.html
Either it did happen or this is a manufactured distraction from all the awful stuff that is really happening.
Kudos to the superintendent.
Meaning if kids are gonna play the game, let’s play.
Smells like bullshit to me. Some conservative mother wanted to be outraged and shot her mouth off.
I’m not buying it.
Someone was fucking with their parents.
Glifit update: Yusef.
It has become a bit too icy to safely play disc, we still go out on Tuesdays and attempt to play but with even more snow on the way? It’s insane.
All that said, I’m getting almost no excercise, I can’t afford to go soft now, Winter can Suck up here,
132lb.
And I can’t spell.
I’ve been taking Rhodiola for over 10 years now. It seems to help with short-term memory, as well as general mood and outlook. I quit for a couple of months when my doctor expressed some concerns about it, but I definitely felt the difference.
The thing about it is it seems to take 2-4 weeks to start having an effect, and tapers off on a similar schedule.
It was particularly helpful when I was smoking a lot of pot; Trigger Hippy, you might want to give it a 2 month try-out. Sadly, I can no longer enjoy the devil’s lettuce, but I’m sticking with Rhodiola until I die.
NB, Russia used it on its cosmonauts and was/is a promoter of its benefits.
That’s interesting. What do you do when the effect tapers off?
Not sure I’m clear on what you’re asking. My mood, outlook, and short-term memory started to degrade at around the 3 week point after quitting. It wasn’t sudden, and was never “can’t live like this” bad, but I started up again at the 2 month mark, and by a month later I felt “normal” (all the disclaimers apply) again. That’s the somewhat insidious thing about taking it — it will be 2 to 4 weeks before the effects are really noticeable, and they will have gradually improved to the “hey, this might actually be working” point. It’s not like flipping a switch, which is why I’m glad I took the 2 month hiatus. It confirmed to my satisfaction that there was something working.
It has no known interactions with other drugs, as of the last time I checked. I’m a fan 😉
Why would the Rams take a timeout there?
RE the cognitive effects/affects (I am standing my ground to never understand the different meanings of those words. #madeitthusfar) of certain supplements and or diets. I listen to this podcast often. They do success stories and I know it is all anecdotal, but a bunch of people have healed a bunch of stuff just by changing their diet.
effects = noun
affects = verb
Same could be said about dick
Whom.
*whomst
whomstoever
whomstoverthefuck
Except when
effect = verb “to effect change”
affect = noun “has a flat affect”
Did you jagoffs not catch the part where I don’t care the meaning?
We knew you just didn’t know how to ask for help.
?
Way to effect an affect.
The Rams sure fucked that up.
Tinfoil hat: Rams throwing this game.
Home teams have lost all 3 so far. Nervous Mo?
YES
heh
Rams will get a FG here
That was insanity.
That was exactly like the two games yesterday. Tie score, field goal in the last <5 seconds. All 3 underdogs per 538, which is 0-3.
Now I'm skeert.
I honestly think it could go either way. I’m just banking on the fact that for the Chiefs this is old hat.
Does Brady get to personally ball-punch the defense?
At least the defensive coordinator. What a terrible call at that point in the game.
Does this make the TB kicker the goat? Mmmaybe.
I can’t stop LOLing

I had to come here to tell all the lo carb people—Mo, Sean, Western Sloper that I have figured out a cheat code. Im literally drinking a zero carb legit milk shake right now. I just got this zero carb isopure protein powder today. Mixed it with a few equals, ice and heavy cream. So delicious I just ordered $150 worth of their other flavors. I have cookies n cream but just ordered strawberry and banana flavors.

I use their vanilla powder when making keto muffins. 1 scoop per batch. It smooths out the muffin batter.
Recipe?
I think I have one typed out on my work pc. If I find it, I’ll email it to you.
I have to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before my ulcer surgery so I’ll get some of this. Thanks!
I hope you like soup. Also, I might be joining you when I get health insurance back.
I can only have 1 cup of broth per day, 4 low-carb protein shakes, and water-based stuff like Jello.
Being on strict low-carb for the 1.5 months before I go on the liquid diet is also prep for the liquid diet,
I am not comfortable enough to go those routes. I would be smashing Reeses peanut butter cups, Mtn dew and a bag of cheetos if I go to the sweets. Some day but not now. My sweets are tequila lime and soda. #ketoholic/Uuurp
Splenda doesn’t trigger cravings, but I have my Splenda lemonade to satisfy cravings. But now my ulcers are saying no to the citric acid.
How’s the Osta?
I love the fact that we have a decade of watching Mahomes and Allen duke it out ahead of us. This game is going to give me a heart attack. Go Bills, but hats off to KC
I think they are well matched, and I will join you in your heart attack.
#methree
Romo commentary completes the picture!!
I fear the Ghost of Elliott has possessed Butker.
Apparently. Gonna have to go for 2 pts next TD.
*clutches Mo’s hand*
This is entertaining! Best weekend in professional football!
I’m hoping for a January tornado to flatten the stadium.
OK, I got my Bills colors on — which is easy for a Giants fan.
I’m dressed in an extremely conservative button-up to the neck cotton print dress with tiny flowers all over. I feel like Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Oddly, my husband finds it sexy.
Narrator: “She could be wearing a burlap sack, and her husband would find it sexy.”
Go on…
Does it have pockets? Maybe put some treats, or edibles in them if it does.
OF COURSE it has pockets!
That is the joy of eShakti.

mmm sexy, chic, and functional.
I will cop to getting a bit titillated by that Holly Hobby/FLDS on Big Love prairie garb.
It’s important to see the transition.
Tomorrow’s freight rush hours at the Canada border could be interesting and/or telling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvmRgN1FMK0
Stupid mislabeled for kids content. Can’t use mini player and can’t save it.
Gordilocks has been virtually live-tweeting it.
Live Tweeting the live feed of the Canada bound truck inspection station? I was just curious how the border would look after the mandate went into effect. I’ve been watching the livestream to see if traffic through there increases/decreases. The protest is not taking place at the location of the livestream, AFAIK
I don’t get it. There is four trucks.

I heard the whole drivers need to be vaxxed to enter Canada bs and I do hope it starts massive protests. Starve the fuckers for all I care. I might need to sneak family out but that can be arranged.
It’s Sunday night. Not exactly freight rush hour. I was just posting the link to keep an eye on it as the business week starts.
This was the game of all four I expected to be the closest – but after the first 3, wtf?

Tony Romo is a huge upgrade from Phil Sims.
Tony Romo can come critique me any time…
Damning with faint praise?
For dinner I tried some of my brined chicken that’s been brining for days now.
The thighs stayed very juicy, but I avoided sliding them onto the floor this time.
I could actually taste the seasoning below the surface layer, so I’d rate that as a success. They were delicious.
You should write it up. I would be interested.
I didn’t take any pictures…
Well, I haven’t cooked all the chicken yet, so I can get pictures in the bags.
Anyone know how to edit a recipe in the WP Recipe maker feature?
I successfully added one, but I might want to address things like typos.
There you go, Tulip, I’ve written it up and submitted it to the powers that be.
I even used the built-in recipe formatting tools.
Did anybody else listen to Pie interview Tom Woods today? (probably not Pie but it sure sounded like him)
Wow. Interesting game. Wasn’t even planning on anything. Went up to Gourmeltz for dinner after a 3 day drill (remote at home due to Norfolk getting shitty weather). Turns out they have a new option for crispy chicken in their grilled cheese tacos. Amazing!
Matt also reminded me that his primary isn’t till next year for state senate – so I guess we have some time to donate, etc.
But yeah…caught most of the 2nd half of the TB/LA game – pretty impressive show.
Also…meant to include in last post, but listening to some really good (albeit long) Jordan Peterson podcasts lately:

Ok, I’ve never believed “dear Dierdre” columns are real.
This is proof. No woman would go to an agony column to admit she’s too hideous to fuck. End of.
I did that!
Everybody approaches this stuff under the impression that Biden and Friends are fighting crises rather than deliberately causing them. And they are acutely aware than America is fed up, thus the hail Mary “voter rights” horseshit that would have allowed them to get away with much worse.
That. and That again. Would Trump have done anything different? The world leaders don’t run the economy, the economy runners run the economy. Print more money. I…….. *deletes rest of comment*
The concept that there aren’t powers in control – that shit more or less just happens; man, no one wants to hear that, think it, nope. The myth of the rightful ruler will make them happy, no matter how false it is.
Granted I am drunker than I have been all weekend but I am not following what you are saying. Are you saying “all happenings in the economy are organic and we are a free trading utopia?” or more of my mind, “the mutherfuckers have fucked this to no end and holy fuck stop printing money and giving it to your friends who are fucking us”.
There are fuckers fucking but even the fucking fuckers will get fucked too. We’re ALL fucked, in the end. And only dopes think it is all according to some plan.
Two point game.
Well, fuck me.
Again, why in the ever-loving fuck are defensive coordinators putting their secondary in single man coverages against the best wide receivers in the league again? I’m functionally retarded but even I know better than that.
I’m not even watching the game but that got a good snort out of me. You should to sports analysis TH.
Danke!
Have I mentioned that I fucking hate putting the secondary in single man coverages against the best wide receivers in the league?
Calm your tits, bruh. The Bills seem to have lost the plot.
I’m not feeling particularly confident right now.
Me neither.
Good game.
To flatten the curve, duh.

hellyeah
These commercials really help me understand why we are where we are. Sweet Jesus are they retarded.
What commercials?
Nice!
I’m not even that much of a football guy, but this is a great game!
Yeah this is pretty crazy.
…
And… it’s probably over.
So, this qualifies as hot? Meh
After your fourth give me money campaign I don’t give one ounce of a fuck what you think Yusef.
Have another beer, I ignore your taunts,
Cheers!

I need a streaming link. my old one got shut down. Who can help a glib out here?
Begging for money over and over again is a bit different than asking for a link to a football game. But you do you.
Speaking of crazy….Adam Carolla corralling Andy Dick on his show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=210Gh7ubtcE
You have got to be kidding me.
You have got to be fucking kidding me.
Nope. It’s real.
OMG MOJEAUX
This game is nuts.
It’s perfect. This is what a playoff game should be.
OMG!!
Have I mentioned that I fucking hate putting the secondary in single man coverages against the best wide receivers in the league?
No, I don’t think you have. ?
exactly
Hail Mary full of grace…
Amazing. All four home teams lost this weekend.

Great minds think alike.
Not yet.
Spoke too soon. Sideshow Bob might pull this off after all.
Lol

This is going OT

Are you guys watching some kind of sportsball game?
Putin is threatening to invade Utah.
Cool – something to take my mind off this fucking game.
Here. Check out old man on intertubes.
https://mobile.twitter.com/thedickbutkus
That’s OK. Biden is worried that he will invade Libya.
Holy moly. This is the most entertaining weekend of football I have ever witnessed.
No shit.
Thx Chafed. Interesting.
Also: beautiful music choice. Love that album. Loved that band before the split..
Thanks and #MeToo.
This shit bananas.
This was the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.
What are the playoff rules for OT?
Someone remind me, is it sudden death in OT?
Only on a TD I think.
In the regular season it’s touchdown wins, field goal gives other team a possession. It can’t end in a tie, I don’t think.
Thanks.
I’m no expert, but I think you’re right that a playoff game can’t end in a tie.
It could. They could use statistics to unbreak the tie, like they do in determining who gets into the playoffs (teams w/same record, tiebreak is the team w/best division record IIRC)
If that is true, the NFL should be disbanded. Fight to the death or GTFO.
I said it could, not that that is the way it is.
I see. It’s weird to me how the NFL keeps making rules for “ player safety” that make the game more boring as the UFC, which is based on hurting the other guy, thrives.
NFL will go the way of NASCAR with the rules…DOA. Nobody watches NASCAR anymore, either on TV or in person
TD wins.
I need a streaming link. my old one got shut down. Who can help a glib out here?
it’s dumb; it’s broken
the rules are packed for the offense
so both teams should have a crack at it like in college
^^^This!!!
I think they should play another whole quarter.
If they want to have a shortcut to avoid playing the whole quarter every time, set an 8 point mercy rule. It adds the “go for two to end the game right now” strategy, but it also allows the game to go on even if the first team scores a touchdown.
This.
It is not too much to ask.
In soccer when there is a tie after two 45 minutes halves, they (often) play two 15 minute “halves” before going to penalty kicks which can be lame but it’s still better than a coin toss.
Fun fact there have some games decided by a literal coin toss under weird circumstances but I’ve never seen it happen.
I reacted in astonishment when I discovered this at last year’s or the year before’s Super Bowl.
To wit: it’s basically a coin flip.
And… tonight it was basically a coin flip.
Yeah, we got burned by that a couple of years ago.
So was the old system, but worse. All teams had to do was get in FG range to win.
So who won?
Nobody yet. OT.
Charlie Sheen?
Every NFL owner.
[golf clap]
Football fans
Yes.
Holy Hannah. This is a crazy good game.
Defenders are tired.
He just threw that guy to the ground without using his arms
YAY MOJEAUX’S TEAM! (I would have been happy with either)
*jumps at Trigger Hippie and screams*
*hugs Mo, giggles*
I stand corrected. What a game and what a weekend!
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
HIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
My Dad would be happy, Contrats you guys!
Thank you, sir.
Biden said he’s going to spend the next year out meeting the people and taking to them. Please, please do that, Joe.
Sure, Jan.
Rhywun gets it.
YES!! Send the old dementia patient that can’t talk his way out of a paper bag on a long, grueling road trip!
I approve of this plan.
He’s sure to run into a few horse faced pony soldiers on his trip.
Let’s go, Brandon!
I guess I missed a good football game. Oh well. I was watching this.
Watching ? listening ?
Didn’t watch the game. Were the players wearing helmets with messages against racism, breast cancer or menopause?
Generic platitudes against generic bad things.
The field has gone tankie, though.
If I played in the NFL, I would request the END RACISM and STOP HATE decals, and then I would fashion them into a homemade END THE STATE.
Yes.
Many of them, yes.
At least they don’t do the English Premiere League thing where they commemorate kneeling on George Floyd’s neck. Before… every… match.
A based player would do the George Floyd kneel gesture with a pleasurable smile on his face.
I saw ONE player, for the first time in many matches I’ve seen in the last couple years, NOT do it a couple days ago. Light at the end of the tunnel?
But for the lamest virtual signalling in all of sports, I don’t think anything beats the USL (second tier US soccer) from last year when they still showed a few matches on regular cable instead of pay streams – at the eighth minute or whatever number that signifies something I can’t remember, all the players would stop what they were doing and form a circle in the middle of the field for a moment of silence.
WTF do they care about George Floyd? They need to look at their own shithole country and stay in their lane.
England? I have no idea, other than I think they’re beat down with guilt fed by endless propaganda, same as the US only more so.
Maybe they should do a moment of silence for the victims of the Rotherham crimes. But that’s a hush-hush pip pip cheerio
Ho-lee shit. I had no idea. That’s crazy.
Well they don’t say that’s what it is, but that’s what it looks like if you think about it.
I’m sorry, rhywun. Honestly, I think that was possibly the best losing effort in a playoff game I’ve ever witnessed. The Chiefs can’t win every year and the Bills are young and hungry. Best of luck for your boys unless the play KC.
Agreed.
The Bills are the hardest team we will have had to beat even through the Superbowl. Many good years ahead for you and us together, but not a nasty rivalry like Raiders.
Feh, I expected them to lose. But yeah, the future looks bright. Hopefully they can shore up the defense.
Their is something different about this Bills team compared to the Jim Kelly era. It’s intangible but this era seems determined to win and believes they are going to win.
Not gonna lie, hating the chiefs right now.
So so much.
That and overtime rules, but that’s always been there.
Chiefs tried to get that changed in March 2019 and were shot down.
It just doesn’t feel like a clean win.
They played a great game, so it’s not like they don’t deserve it to some extent. But what a dumb rule.
What is the argument against a logical system that gives both offenses a shot?
I have no idea. I don’t think fans EVER liked it.
OT used to be play the set amount of minutes and whoever was ahead at the end of the clock won. The NFL changed it because they determined that there were more injuries those last few minutes of OT. I believe it was part of a contract with the players’ union.
The argument is that each team has both an offense and defense. If your defense isn’t up to snuff it’s your fault. The ‘every offense should get a turn’ mentality is a derivative of the ‘everybody should get a trophy’ mentality.
You want to win? Stop the other team.
Just saw the replay from the Rams game – Stafford definitely kicked Suh in the nuts while he was being sacked. Suh got a taunting penalty for yelling about that.
Suh? Hasn’t he been in the league for, like 100 years? He must be 60 years old by now.
I seem to remember him spiking a player or two during his tenure in Detroit so tough titty. The guy who retaliates always gets flagged. He should have known better.
**Turns on mic
By rule, there is no penalty on the play for kicking Suh in the nuts.
Given some of Suh’s dirty shit in the past, I don’t feel too bad for him.
Still, shitty call.
Or what you said…
Refresh.
For those following the Rekieta drama with Law & Crime: it’s interesting L&C didn’t try to cease & desist him during Rittenhouse. Guessing that’s because Rekieta undoubtedly gave them a big ratings bump. I had never heard of Law & Crime before Rekieta.
Yeah that will be good.

Vanilla Rice Balls? Perhaps could be a bit more subtle if you tried.
This sucks,
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/01/old-music-killing-new-music/621339/
Yeah, this has nothing to do the plague. It’s been leading to this for several decades, IMHO because the industry is not designed to handle fractured interests. There is never again going to be a pop/rap/jazz song that captures the interest of everybody when only a fraction of people are interested in pop/rap/jazz songs and have easy access to what they are actually interested in.
I blame the internet. You can listen to whatever you want whenever you want in a way that wasn’t possible before. And yes kids will hear older music in a way that wasn’t possible for people of my age. Although I would listen to my dad’s old records. But I don’t think that sucks. There are after all fewer gatekeepers now. So whatever can break through will.
I wanted to ask last night about your work outs. On the Glibfit topic, you mentioned before you do jujitsu stuff. I looked into it here but the one place seems covid stupid so it was not an option for me. Knocking the shit out of people and having the shit knocked out of your own self is always a good idea in my opinion. I need to find a place.
Not sure what I can tell you. I’ve been going to the same place for some time now so even though we have a vac mandate here I’m on the don’t ask don’t tell program. We do have to wear masks or as I call it cheap altitude training. For boxing workouts/drills I like this you tube channel https://m.youtube.com/c/PrecisionBoxing There are other channels for jiu jitsu but nothing I really follow as you really need a partner to work on it.
I listen to a lot of Electronic dance music,(synths) all of it newer but I do see the new stuff supplanted by the old, so it sucks.
I will never sing the oraises of cultural gatekeepers, but it’s the marketers who rise above the noise—and the noise includes very good artists.
It is the fate of artists to not be very good marketers.
No kidding
/Music promotion is hard
Leaving aside Sturgeons Law, modern music is flat out awful crap. It’s barely even music, but screeching and noise.
Define modern. Because if this is a thinly disguised Steel Panther diss, then we are going to have words.
“but screeching and noise.”
Not that much, just derivitive
If you look back at a random bunch of records released in, say, the sixties, 90% will be shit you never heard of. Mostly because it is complete crap.
Right now, you are getting all of that, with no filter to block much of that out. No DJs, no record companies, nothing. So it all lands across your Spotify like vomit. Is there good stuff in there? Oh, absolutely. But there is a lot of shit that you have to wade through to find it.
Even the stuff on the radio, SXM, or whatever is similar. Of course, some of that no doubt is just due to achieving popularity in the Spotifys first and then getting picked up.
I could go for that.
You are so lucky Ted’S is asleep.
Aw, I baited that hook for nothing.
Football is already being wrecked, why add to the misery?
Lol
The first recommended tweet below yours is about John Paul Jones.
It’s remarkable how many completely off the hook, total badass and lunatic characters there were in the late 18th century.
Damn good bass player too.

“Time to make the donuts.”
Good morning, ‘bodru, U, & Sean! Time for another work week – but the worst of January Hell Month is over! ? Now I just have to finish up an important report for our 401(k) plan in preparation for our annual employer profit sharing contribution. Got a good start on it Friday, so with any luck the rest of it won’t be too difficult.
It didn’t help that our payroll processor used a goofy method of correcting a few local tax withholding errors for a few people, so that on the reports I generated “gross earnings” didn’t equal “eligible earnings” for them. In a couple of instances, the “eligible earnings” were higher than gross. I’m no accountant, but THAT sure didn’t look right.
Morning, GT.
Are you guys sure you want to go with this vendor?
Our relationship has been… bumpy for the several years we’ve been with them. One of the main things holding us back has been the disruption it would cause to the staff to change.
Still better than the former internal HR harpy.
I just hate vendor lock-in.
If they don’t do something about the guy who’s been doing our insurance benefits and then had our 401(k) stuff dumped on him – to the detriment of both – my boss and I may have to have A Talk with our account manager.
War is a time honored presidential practice for attention diversion from a bad job, doubly so if the possibility of a nuclear exchange is in the cards. It’s just so fucking stupid and reckless along with the fact that we’d stand a very good chance of straight up losing a war on Russia’s western border. Any member of the foreign policy/military racket who advocates for this should be deported to Siberia.

And the start of a brand new work week.
“Well, technically…”
Good morning, 4(20)! Thank you for that song! ::raises a mug to Cass and blissfully falls down M’s & P’s rabbit hole::
I’d join you but I have to get ready for work.
Love the M&P.
The first line of the chorus (in the one I linked) gives me goosebumps. The harmonies bloom like a rose.
Saw a documentary about them a few years back. One of them claimed that when recording their vocals, they’d sometimes hear overtones of a fifth vocal part. They referred to this imaginary fifth member as “Harvey.”
Good Morning Four:
In an old post you asked about planting trees. Sorry for the delay.
Plant them, then plant some more.
Your Druids will thank you.
I’m testing apple seeds now, antsy for spring.
I look over to my plant stands and nod.
Dug some holes yesterday to move some trees….
gardening only thing keeping me sane in the crazy years.
Mornin’, fourscore. Great song, Denny could sing. As could Mama Cass John was asshoe
Good morning everyone. My son turns 8 years old today. I loaded him up with Predator and Alien toys (his current obsessions); he is making me watch things like this, so Y’all have to suffer as well. https://youtu.be/3Ej6A2SxKwo
It’s better than Baby Shark? I guess?
Good morning, l0 (and Scruffy!) Happy Birthday to your son! Here’s a little payback for you to inflict upon him. (BTW, there’s also a one-hour version of the same thing, but I won’t link directly to that because I like you!)
Enjoy, they grow up way too quickly. You will remember that fondly, even if he doesn’t.
Tres Version 2.0 turned 15 last month.
I miss 8 year old version.
Here we go again

Where have all the flowers gone? When will we ever learn?
I suspect most of my anti-war mates from the Vietnam era are totally on board with !!!Russia!!! Sigh.
For the life of me I cannot figure out what threat Russia poses to them in their heads.
In for a penny, in for a pound? They invested four years painting Trump as a Russian stooge, need to reinforce their anti-Russian bona fides.
Putin was responsible for Trump and it’s therefore worth risking a nuclear conflict to prevent his takeover of a place ninety percent of them can’t find on a map. They’re motivated by simple (and stupid) political payback.
Don’t forget that the Deep State wants this and their lackeys in the media are all too willing to go along with anything so long as the ratings improve. CNN made their bones from Gulf War I.
If it bleeds it leads for the media and Ukraine is a good grift that a lot of powerful people are afraid they’ll lose. Hopefully our powers that be aren’t that stupid but my confidence in that is lacking.
Well hippy to yuppie to war monger is the typical life cycle of the ‘60s quasi activist, good to see y’all didn’t fall for it.
I was transplanted from inner city to Suburbia as I entered HS. I was never accepted by that crowd, so had a good head start down a different path.
Mornin’ Glibbies! Remind me to never take days off. My relief dropped the ball, yet again. Looked like most everything was left untouched for the last 9-10 days. Jesus Girl, I’m wearing a brace on my wrist and you leave me with that? What should have been a six hour shift turned into a twelve. I just got home. Oh yeah! My floor scrubber blew a drain hose. 20 gallons of filthy solution dumped on the floor not quite 100 feet away from the drain… It was a bear of a night. Hope that I didn’t re-fuck my wrist again. Rant Off.
So many euphemisms.
Sorry Fest. Sounds like a difficult shift.
“it was a bear of a night”
Indeed. You must be sore.
Better a bear than STEVE SMITH!
Damn, that sucks. Not quite the all night screwing you’d wish for.
Not even the good kind of sore 🙁
Meanwhile, while we are busy kicking the hornets’ nest in Kiev…
https://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2022/01/24/taiwan-china-flyby-air-defense-identification-zone-ADIZ/9741643013734/
The Chinese are many things but they aren’t stupid and they know they’d lose the naval and air war that’d be required for a successful takeover of Taiwan. The U.S. doesn’t need to get involved, the combination of Taiwan and Japan alone would bottle up the Chinese militarily and ruin them financially.
No doubt. I just wonder why this gets very little press relative to Ukraine. Actually, I don’t.
This may be the best time to try.
Distracts a lot from domestic issues.
They’d end up like the Argentinian military junta from the 1980s with a short spike in popularity followed by removal from power due to a lost war (followed by execution, this is China after all).
If they think this will distract people from high gas prices, empty supermarket shelves, rising violence, mandates, and a half-dozen other failures, they are sadly mistaken. I thought Obama was the worst president since Wilson, but Brandon will go down as the worst ever if he doesn’t collapse in a heap of his own feces soon.
There are rumblings afoot that he won’t even make it to November. Dems are freaking the fuck out right now. Good! Reap the whirlwind you disingenuous cuntes.
Is that more planes than usual? I’m told that the “impending Chinese invasion” story is so perpetual at the forefront of Taiwanese news media that the Taiwanese people just take it in their stride and largely ignore it (not that they necessarily don’t believe it, but life goes on). I expect it won’t be long now, though. I would have liked to have visited Taipei, especially with a view to visiting the Museum of Bottled Water. The Taiwanese China virus response has put me off perhaps permanently from ever choosing to make such a trip, and the threat of PLA invasion doesn’t help either.
