First, the stupid and hysterical, journalisming’s finest:

THE ANTI-VACCINE RIGHT BROUGHT HUMAN SACRIFICE TO AMERICA

Since last summer, the conservative campaign against vaccination has claimed thousands of lives for no ethically justifiable purpose.

In the early phases of the pandemic, as the coronavirus spread in the United States and doctors and pharmacists and supermarket clerks continued to work and risk infection, some commentators made reference—metaphorical reference, fast and loose and over the top—to ritual human sacrifice. The immediate panicky focus on resuming business as usual in order to keep the stock market from crashing was the equivalent of “those who offered human sacrifices to Moloch,” according to the writer Kitanya Harrison. That first summer, as Republicans settled into their anti-testing, anti-lockdown, anti-mask, nothing-to-worry-about orthodoxy, Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat, said it was “like a policy of mass human sacrifice.” The anthropology professor Shan-Estelle Brown and the researcher Zoe Pearson wrote that people who continued to do their jobs outside their homes were essentially victims of “involuntary human sacrifice, made to look voluntary.” Meanwhile, people on the right likewise compared the inconvenience of closing down public places to ritual sacrifice.

The really neato part of this article is that even if “the right” had done everything he wanted, he’d still be able to write a fluff piece like this condemning them. He hates them because they are “the other,” the rest is window dressing and presenting like a mandrill.

Biden said he’d put a Black woman on the Supreme Court. Here’s who he may pick to replace Breyer

In what will be one of the most monumental endeavors of Joe Biden’s presidency, the retirement of Stephen Breyer sets the stage for an immensely important decision by the President.

Breyer’s seat may be the only one that Biden fills on the Supreme Court, and it may not be one he fills at all — if Republicans retake the Senate before the President’s choice for a replacement is confirmed.

On the campaign trail, Biden vowed to put a Black woman on the high court, which would be an historic first. A short list of potential nominees had been circulating Washington well before Breyer’s retirement plans became public, and officials in the White House Counsel’s office built files on various candidates in anticipation of a potential vacancy. Now, those efforts will ramp up significantly and the President will likely hold one on one meetings before announcing his pick.

Bah! Where is Kamala? Where is Michelle? Where is Whoopi?

No, This School District Is Not Putting Litter Boxes In Bathrooms For Students Who Identify As Cats, The Superintendent Says

A Michigan superintendent had to refute a wild rumor that a litter box was provided in a school bathroom for students who identify as cats last week after a video of a parent raising the claim at a school board meeting spread on social media.

“It is unconscionable that this afternoon I am sending this communication,” Midland Public Schools Superintendent Michael Sharrow wrote in a community message Thursday. “There is no truth whatsoever to this false statement/accusation! There have never been litter boxes within MPS schools.”

So many denials are sus. And in 5 years, not having litterboxes for transanimals will be considered a hate crime. And articles like this will be quietly deleted…

I feel like some indigenous tribes beat the anti-vaccine right on this one.

Yeah, except we’re not pointing at any individual and saying “you must die.” They, OTOH, are pointing at everyone and saying “you must mask and vax.” One of those is an initiation of force; the other is not.

“Biden said he’d put a Black woman on the Supreme Court. Here’s who he may pick to replace Breyer”

I like the idea of Kamala being nominated, on the grounds that Biden only knows that one black woman.

    • Tonio

As many others have noted, that would conveniently get her out of the way.

      • Rat on a train

The problem for Biden is that removes the Senate tie breaker until a new VP is confirmed by a majority vote of both chambers of Congress.

      • Tonio

A good point. But they know she’d be easy to beat in a general election. And they’re going to have lots of ‘splaining to do if they pass her over and run Hillary or Buttgieg (or possibly Hillary AND Buttgieg).

      • Zwak, All dressed up in his ridiculous seersucker suit

Man, I can already see the campaign slogan for that ticket:

I don’t know why this is even a question. The answer is Barack Obama–he gets the nod, Biden gets the full weight of the Obama machine supporting him as long as necessary.

      • The Hyperbole

Obama’s a tad too old, I’d think they’d want someone early to mid fifties so they can get as many years on the bench as possible. that KJB someone floated early seems like a good bet.

      • Count Potato

It’s definitely a qualification, just not a constitutional requirement, and they need to keep up appearances.

      • Tonio

Well, your humble Poynter alumni is here with receipts. And LCPS DID pay upwards of $300k for such training

    • Rat on a train

Much more than $300,000 isn’t about $300,000, so false.

    • Tonio

Lt. Gov Sears is a race- and gender-traitor, and as such is not allowed to claim victim status.

The Dems get to now claim that it is 100% acceptable to seat a justice right before a mid-term. It is glorious. A mid-term that they will probably get trounced in unless the R’s stick their dicks in the mud like they always do.

    • Certified Public Asshat

I already mailed my ballot in!

    • Urthona

Welp. Now they will expend at least a little energy and effort on replacing a guaranteed leftist with another one. That’s time where they could be figuring out how to force through more of their horrendous ideas before the midterms.

      • Ownbestenemy

Yep, its a wash in terms of ideology and just for the hell of it, the Rs should make a stink to drag it out as long as possible. They aren’t going to hold anything up, but I am always in favor of a bogged down government machine.

      • db

It can’t get much worse than Breyer as far as reliably political votes on the court. It’s not like we’re losing a sharp legal mind that has a chance of being convinced in favor of liberty in any given case.

      • Tonio

But he is at least somewhat cautious. I can see some blue flame special wanting to upset the apple cart. It can always be worse. But the prospect of a stalled nomination is appealing.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

As I’ve said in the past, I can respect the legal chops of the other prog justices on the court. Their ability to craft opinions based on (poor) interpretation of law and principle and to address the issues head on has been proven many times over. The exception is Breyer. I’ve never been impressed by any of his opinions. They don’t strike me as judicial or well reasoned. They’re generally exercises in post-hoc rationalization with a bit of legal writing tucked in for the fun of it.

      • Urthona

So maybe it’s a good thing that the dumbest human being on the supreme court goes.

Unless they find someone even dumber.

Narrator: they would find someone even dumber.

      • Swiss Servator

Oh come now – Kagan being so dumb that it hurts, and Sotomayor arguing that the California Raisin Committee physically taking a part of growers crops from them wasn’t a “taking”…

      • Zwak, All dressed up in his ridiculous seersucker suit

Limbo is a dance of champions.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’ll admit to not following SCOTUS as closely since I penned this article, but the difference between Breyer and the rest of the court was noticeable enough in 2019 to become a thread woven throughout the article.

Kagan and Sotomayor are predictable in their fascist leftist leanings, but they can compose a court opinion. Breyer’s opinions are more like a letter to the editor.

    • Drake

    • rhywun

Why on earth does she think that is a good idea? What possible benefit does that bring? Or is it normal to ship the VP off to inaugurations in trivial Central American countries?

      • Tonio

It is normal to assign VPs to this sort of detail for stable minor allies. For coronations and funerals of major allies we have to send the president, ie we will have to send Biden if QE2 dies on his watch. For shithole countries they get the US ambassador.

      • rhywun

Oh. Honestly this seemed like something we would not ordinarily attend. I mean, she has so many other important duties. ?

      • Tonio

Probably we really need something from them and are sending her to give a BJ to the new head guy to make that happen.

Harvest Moon came out in 1992 and was Neil’s last significant album.

      • C. Anacreon

He should know by now that rust never sleeps.

Quick anecdote: About 30 years ago off Skyline Boulevard in the San Francisco Bay Area mid-Peninsula, I was with a female companion about to begin hiking a trailhead. There was a little general store there, and we walked in to buy a couple of things for the hike. There was some bum sitting on the front porch sipping coffee, I barely paid him any attention, he looked like a street person. But my lady friend elbowed me after we walked inside, and the proprietor said “Yep, it’s who you think it is.” By the time we walked back out he had already moved on. Neil Young. I totally didn’t notice him.

Better is the time I saw Steph Curry getting gas for his Porsche at our neighborhood gas station. It was the clerk who pointed him out to me that time, too. But at least I got to take a look at him in this occasion. I don’t know why I typically fail to discern celebs who are right in front of me.

    • Pine_Tree

I think it’s also important to remember that like 99% of the people who’ve heard of him are because of Sweet Home Alabama.

      • Drake

        He didn’t remember.

      • The Hyperbole

Not even close. He may be a proggie idiot but he’s been a rock legend for a very long time.

    Meanwhile, back at the plantation

Experts say that Black and Latino students would suffer disproportionately if the Supreme Court decides to reverse a long-standing policy on affirmative action programs in the U.S.

On Monday, the Supreme Court said it would hear two cases challenging race-conscious admissions at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina.

If the court rules against race-conscious college admissions programs, also known as affirmative action, it could have an outsize effect on Black and Latino college students.

    ——-

Cara McClellan, an assistant counsel at the NAACPs Legal and Education Defense Fund, said it would be unusual for the court to go against years of upholding affirmative action.

“Any ruling that calls into question the legality of race-conscious admissions would be a huge reversal of more than 40 years of Supreme Court precedent,” McClellan said. “It would be quite a radical act for that to be the outcome.”

Such an outcome, McClellan said, would dramatically reduce racial diversity at private and public universities.

    ——-

Natasha Warikoo, a professor of sociology at Tufts University and author of “The Diversity Bargain,” said Black and Latino students who do get into more selective schools would also feel the brunt of a reversal.

“They will have a much smaller community of same-race peers, and are more likely to be the only underrepresented minority in a class and have less access to social networks that we know are important for students of color on their college campuses,” Warikoo said. “I really see it as this two-fold impact on Black and Latino students.”

Black faces, in and of themselves, are the goal. Not academic or professional success?

Show us the black students who thrived and succeeded and went on to do great things. I have no doubt whatsoever there are many. I have no doubt these schools could continue to recruit and mentor bright and qualified black men and women if affirmative action quotas did not exist.

    • rhywun

No, the constitution, American law and hundreds of years of jurisprudence say that is not how it works.

  25. R C Dean

If Biden puts a black woman on the Court, won’t that mean blacks are over-represented? That would be 2, which means 22% of the Court will be black, and blacks are only 12 – 13%. The Court is racially balanced now, as balanced as it can be, as far as whites, blacks, hispanics go (although there are minorities unrepresented, none of them are 11% of the population; another minority would actually throw off the POC v Cauc balance).

For chick v dick balance, we’re one chick short, I suppose. So it would help with that.

I mean, if you think any of this matters.

    • Urthona

Blacks are way way overrepesented in Hollywood and that had stopped no one from complaining.

Biden To Nominate Progressive Woman Of Color Elizabeth Warren To Supreme Court

“I’m proud to nominate noble Cherokee savage Elizabeth Warren to the highest court in the land,” said Biden. “She’s a noted woman of color and I know she’ll do a heck of a job–just like she did against my Tennessee militiamen at the Tugaloo River. Wow, she took so many scalps that day folks. Just give this injun lady a chance, will ya?”

McConnell Says Senate Should Not Confirm New Supreme Court Nominee Just Three Years Before Presidential Election

When it was pointed out to Senator McConnell that these were the exact same words he used in 2016 on the day of Antonnin Scalia’s death, McConnell explained, “Yes, and the same principle still applies. We should not have a lame-duck president who is clearly on his way out making such an important decision for the nation.”

  29. KSuellington

I don’t care what CNN says, I say there is a more than fair chance that Biden nominates Kamala to the SC. The Dems need her the fuck off the 24 ticket and it ain’t gonna be easily done. This way she can pull some bullshit about how “ever since I was a little girl calling out for fweedom I dreamt of being a SC Justice. It has been an unbelievable honor to serve as your VP , but I feel as if this were my true calling.”

Watch it happen. Then Joe can pick someone that actually has mlre popularity that genital warts to be the VP and take over in 24.

    • Rat on a train

As I mentioned earlier, any VP replacement will require Republican votes in the Senate.

      • Ownbestenemy

In that case, it would be politically smart for Joe to bring on Tulsi in this scenario.

      • KSuellington

I don’t know if that would stop it from happening. They could figure that they will just keep nominating VPs until they peel off one Repub vote for someone relatively milquetoast. If the Republicans keep denying it they will do without a VP which wouldn’t be a big deal. It would be used as a distraction from the present shitshow. Obstructionists!

      • Ownbestenemy

^^ This…they could intentionally create a serve and actual Constitutional crisis. Nominate Harris, she goes to SC, VP vacant, Repubs stonewall, VP slot remains vacant…Dems campaign on it.

      • Rat on a train

The Ds wouldn’t have a tie breaker in the Senate until a new VP is confirmed. No reconciliation or other simple majority votes without at least one R.

      • DEG

And… Nancy Pelosi is next in line for president.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

That might actually be for the best. President Pelosi would collapse the system.

      • Ownbestenemy

And Congress would have a big gaping black hole of power. I hate Pelosi, but she has a superstructure of power beneath her

      • Rat on a train

No 25th Amendment removal without a VP.

    • C. Anacreon

You better copyright those lines, quick — she may same them word for word.

      • KSuellington

I called it that she would be VP over three years ago. I’d say it’s at least a strong possibility of how they get rid of her from the ticket. The Dems love them some political stunts like this and the media and True Believers would not bat an eye at it.

      • Urthona

I don’t see it happening but it would be hilarious. Their propaganda is good, but it’s not THAT good.

    • Urthona

Nominating the least popular human being in America right before midterms doesn’t seem all that shrewd to me.

    Evening, Glibs.

First day of bladesmithing class wrapped up and I got dinner. Turns out that for whatever reason, unlike the blacksmithing class, there are only two students in this one. All of the hammer work was done by lunch time, and we moved on to the grinder to profile the knives, then smoothed the surface of the tang to make it easier to attach scales later. Whil the heat-treating kiln was warming up, we prepped those scales, making sure the inside surface was as smooth as we could get it. We heat-treated, quenched, and put the steel into a tempering oven just before heading out for the night. By now it should be just about done baking.

    • slumbrew

Nice! I love when you end up with an almost-private class. We had that with a dog trainer (3 other people just dropped out, having already pre-paid ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  31. Timeloose

Glib poll for the shooters out there.

I’m in the market for a full sized .45ACP to replace my EAA Witness. It has a hairline crack that formed in the rear of the lower near the back mating surface with the slide. It was well used when I bought it almost 10 years ago. It will likely never have an issue but it gives me an excuse.

I want a preferably metal framed .45 ACP. I don’t like trigger safety’s and I already have a 1911. Double stack mag, full sized frame preferably.

The SIG P220 Legion and a CZ 97 are two I considered. What else should I consider?

    • EvilSheldon

What’s it going to be used for?

      • Timeloose

They had one in the local shop with the Au finish ( actually TiN I imagine). Ridiculous, heavy, and pretty cool at the same time.

      • slumbrew

From the Desert Eagle video the other day:

“So basically it’s like a high end russian escort; costs a lot, high maintenance, but everywhere you take it, it will turn heads and it’s awesome when you put it in action.”

      • db

Have a look at the various STI 2011 type guns. High cap–good for both target and home defense. Hard to carry because of weight unless you’re a very big guy.

      • EvilSheldon

I have a Staccato C2-DPO that I’ve been carrying lately. It carries like a Glock 19, and shoots like one of my raceguns. If you have the means, I highly recommend them.

      • Timeloose

        That is nice.

      • db

Sadly, Stacatto’s web site makes no mention of .45 ACP. Perhaps it’s available as a custom order. The link I gave above is definitely for a .45 though…

      • EvilSheldon

Staccato has done some limited runs, while in the process of changing over from STI. The .45 -P might be one of those.

      • Timeloose

The SDI looks nice. Thanks I did forget about them.

      • EvilSheldon

In that case, I really suggest retiring the .45ACPs and switching to a 9mm. You get functionally identical terminal performance against people, in an easier-to-shoot gun that holds more cartridges.

Beyond that, what’s your budget like?

      • Timeloose

I have a great 9mm already in my CZ75 and others.

I want to have a .45ACP because I like the caliber and have ammo.

My budget is not a concern, but I’m not willing to buy a fully customized or super high end model. I also don’t want a race gun or competition pistol.

      • Timeloose

        Nice!

Joe Rogan hasn’t killed me yet, I must be listening incorrectly.

      • Certified Public Asshat

In all seriousness, if this is still about the fucking vaccine Joe’s position hasn’t changed since last April (?), which is if you are old and/of fat you should probably consider getting vaccinated. The younger and skinnier you get, the risk profile changes and it is a decision you should make based on your overall health profile. Remember, his first sin was saying a healthy 20 year old doesn’t need to be vaccinated.

And if you have had covid and survived it, you don’t need the vaccine. These are the radical positions he holds.

He also interviewed Malone and McCullough. This is not an endorsement of their beliefs. See above for what Joe actually thinks.

      • rhywun

He’s not evil for what he thinks, he’s evil for allowing other people to express wrongthought.
