If you had told me at the start of the season the Bengals would be playing for the conference championship, I would have told you you’re high. This is why I don’t be on sports.
Since nearly all of you are going to be glued to the TV watching the games, let’s discuss something tangentially related to fitness: Five Theories of Sports Psychology.
1. Mental toughness
Coaches and athletes recognize mental toughness as a psychological construct vital for performance success in training and competition. Mental toughness helps maintain consistency in determination, focus, and perceived control while under competitive pressure. Mentally tough athletes are highly competitive, committed, self-motivated, and able to cope effectively and maintain concentration in high-pressure situations. They retain a high degree of self-belief even after setbacks and persist when the going gets tough. This explains the incredible back and forth between the Bills and the Chiefs last week.
Mental toughness is made up of four components, known to psychologists as the “four Cs”:
- Feeling in control when confronted with obstacles and difficult situations
- Commitment to goals
- Confidence in abilities and interpersonal skills
- Seeing challenges as opportunities
2. Motivation
Motivation has been described as what maintains, sustains, directs, and channels behavior over an extended amount of time. While it applies in all areas of life requiring commitment, it is particularly relevant in sports. While there are several theories of motivation, the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) has proven one of the most popular.
Based on our inherent tendency toward growth, SDT suggests that activity is most likely when an individual feels intrinsically motivated, has a sense of volition over their behavior, and the activity feels inherently interesting and appealing.
3. Goal setting and focus
Setting goals is an effective way to focus on the right activities, increase commitment, and energize the individual. A well-constructed goal can provide a mechanism to motivate the individual toward that goal. Athletes can use goals to focus and direct attention toward actions that will lead to specific improvements. Goal setting can define challenging but achievable outcomes, whatever your sporting level or skills.
4. Anxiety and arousal
Under extreme pressure and in situations perceived as important, athletes may perform worse than expected. This is known as choking and is typically caused by being overly anxious. Such anxiety can have cognitive (erratic thinking), physical (sweating, over-breathing), and behavioral (pacing, tensing, rapid speech) outcomes. It typically concerns something that is not currently happening.
It is important to distinguish anxiety from arousal. The latter refers to a type of bodily energy that prepares us for action. It involves deep psychological and physiological activation, and is valuable in sports.
5. Confidence
While lack of confidence is an essential factor in competition anxiety, it also plays a crucial role in mental toughness. Confidence is ultimately a measure of how much self-belief we have to see through to the end something beset with setbacks.

I heard Elizabeth Nolan Brown on the Reason Roundtable podcast. I immediately knew what this week’s music was going to be. You can click the link, laugh at the song title, and get the joke. Or you can listen about halfway through for the money shot. I want to see some hands clapping and hear everyone sing the chorus. I promise everyone around you wants to sing along too.
One year ago today!

Cool link, bro!
I assume you meant this.
I would have picked this for the music link.
The Bungles want to make a game of this.
Sunday is their fun day,
Their “I don’t have to run” day.
We’re switching over to this thread already?
It’s been up for half an hour already.
There are barely any relevant comments (I have nothing relevant to say). I feel bad for Chafed.
Relevant comment: Packer ST didn’t choke last week; they were just preternaturally horrendous.
Don’t sweat it Mo. I knew this was coming.
Or … not.
I’ll wait until at least the middle of the third quarter to even begin to guess how this game will end.
See?
This is supposed to be for sports psychology, but aren’t these really about any kind of success?
I’d say very much so.
Thirded.
100%
Nearly all, if not all, the mental stuff I write about are applicable to many aspects of life.
I’ll make an on topic comment.
Feeling in control when confronted with obstacles and difficult situations
Sport also can teach you to efficiently prioritize those obstacles and difficulties.
RIP Dr. Johnny Fever
First Meat Loaf, now this. Why can’t the Grim Reaper take someone whose absence would improve the world? I’m looking at you Schumer, Pelosi, and Biden.
God dammit.
“Sports psychology.”
Try running a business. ?
My on-topic comment: I have finally just accepted that I cannot succeed on weight loss with diet alone. My whole life has taught me this.
Keep at it!
So what’s the plan? Can we help?
The plan is tomorrow I will stay on plan and go for a walk. That’s it. My entire plan.
More than enough. 80/20 will get you there.
Good luck!
I am that way too. I have a better chance of sticking to eating healthy on days when I get to the gym. I am hesitant to cut myself that piece of cake if it negates a hard workout I did earlier. You’ve lost 100+ pounds before, so you can do anything you want to. Keep at it.
That’s a good plan.
Kamala Harris is your fitness coach?
Shit, USMNT should have had the equalizer there.
aren’t these really about any kind of success?
Sports provide clear cut and immediate measures of success.
Sure, but the qualities needed apply to any endeavor.
That was not intended as contradiction or disputation.
‘Under extreme pressure and in situations perceived as important, athletes may perform worse than expected. This is known as choking and is typically caused by being overly anxious. When I was an amateur boxer I somehow managed to put myself in the opposite state before a big fight. I found myself in a tranquil, almost drowsy state. Often I had to awakened from a nap to get my hands wrapped. I remember one pre fight instance when after getting my hands wrapped I worked the mitts in front of my opponent (pre-fight mind games, including shit-talking between clubs, is a big part of amateur boxing) then taking a nap in a metal folding seat right up until the fight before mine started. I guess it messed with my opponent so badly he puked on my shoes a minute into the first round. The ref took pity and stopped it.
Everyone approaches it differently. Lots of us fucked around and chirped before a game, some would sit away from everyone else, but we had a teammate (who was probably top 3 on the team) who would regularly barf before a game. What was funniest was that if he did, we knew he was gonna light the other team up.
We are weird creatures.

Gaze upon your future and weep.

Is there some kind of game on today?
As an aside: Is every single goddamn CBS drama some version of worshipping a group of unaccountable alphabet agency spooks routinely circumventing the law to bring “true” justice for us all?
Suck more statist cock, CBS. JFC.
That’s why I stopped watching them.
Also, I think SVU is single-handedly responsible for people being suspicious of everyone else as a potentail child molester, and reinforcing the idea that children aren’t safe walking to school by themselves.
Oh, To Catch a Predator played a role as well.
Not that that kinda shit isn’t a problem here in the Information Age. I mean, look at the staff at CNN.
Stranger Danger existed long before SVU.
SVU departed from the earlier L&Os which generally dealt with homicide. And dead bodies can’t emote on camera.
The opportunity to put “victims” and not the next of kin on camera provided an opportunity to focus on selling grief. And the fastest, cheapest path to grief is to hurt children.
The show is obscene, and not in the good way.
Law & Order: SVU did not begin life as part of Law & Order; it was an unrelated show called Sex Crimes. NBC felt it would attract more viewers under the L&O banner. The pilot episode has very different directorial feel or vibe to it that was gone by the second episode.
The early seasons sort of followed the L&O format of 1/2 hour investigation phase and 1/2 trial phase. But that got left behind to focus on the exploitation of women and children.
On the other hand, lots of novels and movies seem to pit right-wing senators or businessmen conspiring with some out of control rogue elements of said alphabet agencies to “destroy our democracy” but, thanks to courageous loners like Jack Reacher or The Nowhere Man, they get foiled in the end.
Yep. It’s Jon Voight’s character in Enemy of the State ad nauseam.
The latest season of Ozark introduces us to an ultra-conservative but thoroughly corrupt Republican Senator from Illinois. His son is a federal judge whose own son runs a firm manufacturing voting machines and software. They, of course, have created a piece of voting software that will enable the user to manipulate elections nationwide with no possible audit trail.
That’s rich.
Absolutely correct.

These euphemisms.
Weight is 273 lbs.
I had a not-so-good deadlift day Friday. The sled drags that I start the day out with went well. I had 245 lbs on the sled. I started deadlifting with 95 lbs. I had hopes of using more weight than the last time as my back and leg have been feeling great. Well, part way up on the second rep of the second set one of my knee tendons exploded in pain. I dropped the weight. That was embarrassing. I cut the day off. Yesterday that tendon was a bit sore. Today when I cleared snow, I had a twinge or two but no pain. We’ll see how tomorrow at the gym goes.
RE: ENB: I think these two articles she wrote are apropos to the music:
Article one
Article two
Though on the other hand, I didn’t hear anything in the song about making sandwiches. Maybe I missed it.
There is no byline on the second article. It is referenced here as being by ENB.
I can’t get to your second article, but overall I encourage you to continue.
I got my exercise by removing a broken sharkbite connector at from the wall to my toilet. I had to saw it off with a hacksaw blade. At one point I considered reverting to a primitive state, hooting like an ape and smashing it with the nearest club. I did not. I stayed patient and thirty minutes later the hideous thing was off the pipe, and I installed a new connector. That was some good calories burned.
Archive is a bit slow, but the second article does load for me. The link to it from the bustle article is dead. Gotta go to archive.
Good you got the plumbing job done. I have decided that there is no such thing as a simple plumbing job.
They make a tool for that you know,
It didn’t work, the fitting was never installed properly to begin with and it did not respond to the proscribed tool, which I have several versions of. It was a fitting sent by the devil.
Here is what you missed:

He’d wake up in the morning and smoke a bowl
Smack my mom upside the head
“Make me a sandwich” is what he said
Yeah
That’s what girls are for
That’s what girls are for

That’s what girls are for
That’s what girls are for
Thanks!
Yikes!
Maybe lose those sled drags for a bit. Deads shouldn’t do shit to your knees.
How’s the back?
I have had very few problems with my disc herniation.
Good deal!
Re confidence.
I have realized lately that I have a pessimistic view of everything’s potential and everybody’s ability, especially my own. Part of what jolted me out of this was last week’s 13-second drive. For the first time ever, I did not immediately dismiss the idea that X could be done. I realized that the situation had what it needed to be controlled. It was a unique feeling. So then I look back on my life and the competitions I have been in and mostly always came in second place, which I felt I deserved because I didn’t think I was any better than that. (Maverick, always 2nd place, amirite?!)
Then (as above), my whole life has taught me I can’t lose weight without exercise. The thing about volition is speaking to me.
These two things are connecting for me, but I can’t articulate why yet.
“I have realized lately that I have a pessimistic view of everyone else’s potential and everybody’s ability, except my own”
I’m speaking of those that promise great things (politicians) when my experience has been totally different. I have confidence in my own ability and take the consequences when I’m wrong.
Also, I think SVU is single-handedly responsible for people being suspicious of everyone else as a potentail child molester, and reinforcing the idea that children aren’t safe walking to school by themselves.
But hoomin traffuckings!
I think every bathroom stall at airports now have anti-trafficking signs in them.
Glib fit has been bad for me the past two weeks. A week and a half of vacation had me mostly sitting on my ass I have not stepped on a scale but I can feel I have put on a few pounds and I am just lacking energy. I know I have been saying it for weeks but I really do intend to get my shit together. I don’t do well with winter. Depression creeps up…….blah blah blah. On another note……….
?THAT’S WHAT GIRLS ARE FOR..?
??
When I see “That’s What Girls Are For”, I think of Dionne Warwick.
The guy on the harmonica is not reading the music, what’s up with that?
He’ll never make it in the music business.
my whole life has taught me I can’t lose weight without exercise.
At the risk of sounding like a dick, why would that come as a revelation? Also, losing fat does not necessarily involve losing weight.
Not a revelation. Acceptance.
I am convinced it can be done. Hell I did it. Granted my usual day involves a bit of walking but lb’s came off with little effort other than keeping carbs under 20g a day. Over 20g’s and I stall and that is when the exercise needs to come in. My pistachio and cheese addiction kills me.
Sigh… today’s lunch involved cutting chunks of ricotta salata and dipping them in hummus. Cheese is my favorite dairy, butter is a close second.
Never heard of that combo. Love both things but cant picture them together.
I don’t do well with winter.
Me too. I am trying to drag myself out of hibernation mode now the days are getting longer.
I actually joined a gym a month ago.
A) My current living situation demanded I find a way to take a shower every day.
B) I really needed to get some sort of physical activity.
Mostly, I have been stretching (i am so tight it’s scary) and doing a little cardio. The place has a couple of those “up the down escalator” machines, which I use, in addition to finishing off by pedalling backwards on a stationary bike. My working heart rate has come down.
Also a bit of rehab on my ruined shoulders. Range of motion and strength are starting to show small gains.
Hanging from a pull up bar was an amazing fix for my shoulders. Just hang. Start with 15 seconds and move up from there.

And a repeat from a previous week.
Still amazing and intimidating.
She’s hot.
There are a lot of hot women in the gallery.
I just get tired of seeing repeats.
I don’t often talk about the role of my penis in Firsting. I think it’s a highly overlooked factor in the art of the First. Some people may think that it’s all in the hands, or ask how can you First faster with one hand? These people fundamentally misunderstand what Firsting is, where the Firsting energy comes from. It’s about achieving a state of euphoric zen as you time something perfectly – not simply about a rapid response to stimuli.
Holy shit. Brochettaward is Ron Jeremy’s sock puppet.
Are you saying Bro looks like a hedgehog?
Brochettaward has a penis?
What kind of hazmat gear would you need to pick up that sock?
So far, since January 4th, I’m over 6 pounds, with about 9 more to go for goal number one for the year. Been counting calories all but two days since the 4th as well (Browns game and mom’s birthday dinner). Managed to keep up with going to spin classes 3 days a week, to where more of the instructors are remembering my name, and a couple of the other participants have started chatting with me. Averaging about 185 average power output through those classes (max has been 991 watts peak, 203 watts for a full class).
Things will be slowing down as February rolls around, as there are events and a weekend getaway planned.
I’m cautiously optimistic that there will actually be some supported real rides this year, and I’m waiting for the scheduled events to drop. Still kicking around the idea of signing up for the MS ride this yea.
Insert a “down” between that “I’m” and “over” to help that first sentence make sense.
I was hoping that’s what you were saying. Good job.
Good on the weight loss.
The weeks meat is cooked. Lots of sausage, burger patties and another big pot of cream of asparagus soup. It is bone broth based creamy fat laden deliciousness.
I just put a pork loin and some chicken breasts in the fridge to defrost to cook later this week.
A well cooked pork loin is a thing of beauty and I love it. I like to lay a slab in a bowel of bone broth and top with a fried egg. Fat and protein heaven.
Recently, I’ve been going the lazy method of cooking them (the pre-seasoned ones have been on sale at my local grocery stores for the past several months). Plug in a probe thermometer, air roast it (any fat layer on top) until it reaches temp, let rest 10 minutes, serve it with a side of homemade spicy sauerkraut.
? I would watch the ingredient list on those for sugar but ya, those can be tasty. I jared up two jars of sauerkraut yesterday. I want to make a spicy batch. You should share your recipe. I have Sandor Katz’ book, Wild Fermentation and I want to try his kimchi recipe.
Not really a recipe on the sauerkraut. Just cabbage, salt, and a couple of chopped up super hot peppers added in before the ferment. Made one batch that was borderline too spicy for me to eat, so I’ve been watching the peppers a little closer.
“The weeks meat is cooked.”
I remember when I’d cook my meat more than once a week.
GlibFit: wet and tight.
Yikes. Some serious “holy molys” in there.
Chafed!
That song is embarrassingly hilarious!
This is a very meta column as I’m responding between sets. I’m traveling tomorrow and I’m pretty sure the hotel won’t have a weight room!
I think the most important of the list is number 1. You could also call it resilience. The best athletes have an otherworldly ability to ignore when shit goes sideway.
Unlike elite athletes, I missed one lift this week as I fucked up my neck on Monday. I was able to hit it again Friday and it feels decent today.
I am considering moving to a Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday routine, instead of MWF. I don’t do much on Sunday anyway and that gives me more freedom during the week.
Got all my miles in this week. Our hike yesterday was 4.1 miles with 800 feet of gain. It was an easy hike, really, but spectacularly beautiful. It started uphill on a wide path. then wound though a gorgeous ponderosa forest before opening into a clearing with a staggering view of the Flatirons. Fucking amazing.
Odd, I have a hankering for a sammich.
Have a great week Glibfitters!
Hey T, This video is pretty good for your pain in the neck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4dmZ5_n6uU Probably a good idea to keep limber when traveling.
Don’t push it too far… since only 4 in 1000 are capable of self oral satisfaction. /sarc.
GREAT video. Thanks, brother!
I’m glad you enjoyed the music and stuck around for the best part.
Ouch. Sorry about your neck.
’bout fuckin time.
Hi Chafed, Greetings from NOCAL-BEL. Thanks for edition! Real nice weather here. Did 6 miles with no elevation today. The Mrs is still nursing the toe, but seeing progress…the struggle is real.
Great subject on Sports psychology that can be easily applied to health and Glib-fit. I will say that our obsession with sport and winning at all costs is not healthy. I was always impressed with what Bode Miller said about sport or at least amateur sport that it is really about Freedom. You are free to be as good as you want to be but what is most important to enjoy and have fun pursuing.
G-fit update: Sleep was very good. Food was OK; probably too much fruit. Hike mileage was low at 36 miles but very intense since I have been hiking with my son…hiking with him is kicking my ass. Wim Hoff and cold showers every day this week. Weight was up to 178.
Goal: Weight (165-170). Flat trend. No dead from Covid: MB;MC
Interesting factoid: Seems that people with sleep apnea have elevated levels of EPO…which causes an increase in red blood cells, which allows the heart to pump less to carry O2. Seems holding your breath can achieve similar increase. Increase is transient and peaks at 5 hrs. Perhaps the Wim Hoff method may increase EPO..so I got that going for me too!
To live better, fat adapt, skip a meal or three! Have a plan and some Narcan…
I was always impressed with what Bode Miller said about sport or at least amateur sport that it is really about Freedom. You are free to be as good as you want to be but what is most important to enjoy and have fun pursuing.
Preach it!
The Mrs is still nursing the toe, but seeing progress…the struggle is real.
Good!
I’ve been particularly Glib-unfit as of late. No weight gain or anything, but I’m holding steady (around 283). That’s fine for now. There are other priorities.
Big thing I want to improve on is outdoor and social time. I’m finding that I’ll regularly go 3-5 days in a row without stepping any further out of the house than the mailbox. Finding time is the issue.
Get a dog…it is great for getting outside and good for the immune system development of your kids since they will be exposed to all the great health benefits of dirt.
I really want to get outside, the winter has me cooped up with the snow/ice. I really enjoy the spring melt and getting my shoes muddy ’cause I know it won’t be long before I can be outside. I’m really looking forward to working in the garden, enjoying some free Vitamin D. In days of old I’d be outside in this weather but the calendar is catching up.
I was at a visitation today, over half were masked, I’m not sure who was afraid of who, I’m sure under the masks were those that had the vaccines 2 + 1, a lot of not elderly people, those in their 30s-40s-50s. I’d previous believed we’d overcome that here, I was wrong.
The message does not seem to be getting out…
I’m finding that I’ll regularly go 3-5 days in a row without stepping any further out of the house than the mailbox.
That is not good.
Back during the lockdown insanity when my was closed (remember kids, the NH governor doesn’t tell businesses what to do because that would be Communism), I went for daily walks around the neighborhood. As stuff started opening back up, I dropped off on those walks. I should start them up again.
Anyways, maybe talk a walk around the neighborhood? Your kids are young right? In a stroller for them!
I’m finding that I’ll regularly go 3-5 days in a row without stepping any further out of the house than the mailbox.
Work from home. Amazon brings me all the cool shit that I need. I go into town once a week to buy perishables.
It’s winter. There is no point in going anywhere else.
Yeah, I’m well on my way to becoming a hermit.
That’s one of the nice things about living next to a state forest, but on the opposite side from the trailheads. I can get out for good walks with the dog (well, not when there’s snow on the ground) and be relatively hermitish.
Even on a summer Sunday when the trails are at their busiest, we might run into three groups unless we take the one trail that comes close to the parking area in which case we’d see more
That is not good
Yup, and it tends to snowball on itself. We’ve been pretty good about getting out and doing stuff on the weekends, but I need to get the morning walks going again at the very least.
Wow.
Right?!
Bengals are making it a game…
LOL
?
Sorensen played out of position twice giving up eight points. There’s a big fucking surprise.
They came out of the locker room having forgotten how to play football.
True. Just saying Dirty Dan is hot garbage. He grades out as either the worst or near the worst safety in the league year after year. Keep him off the field unless absolutely needed.
I just heard Patrick had a passer rating of 12.3 in the second half. 8 completions in 18 attempts.
I was always impressed with what Bode Miller said about sport or at least amateur sport that it is really about Freedom. You are free to be as good as you want to be but what is most important to enjoy and have fun pursuing.
The best most addictive thing about sport for me was the moments of pure unadulterated joy.
USMNT is making me crazy. And nauseous.
https://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/story/news/2022/01/28/gov-wolf-democratic-leadership-press-state-legislature-raise-minimum-wage-pa/9245966002/
A law is not needed. No one is paying minimum wage and getting employees. Fast food is paying $15-18 to start.
So the minimum wage needs to be $20/hr.
I’m trying to fill a number of positions in my firm. All of them pay well above California’s minimum wage and come with benefits. I’m still having real trouble getting decent applicants.
Who the fuck wants to move to California?
21 unanswered points. Disappoint.
I took a “nap” and missed all of those 21 points.
And the USMNT managed to lose 2-0 to #@$#@ Canada (who were already in first place.)
Can we miss another World Cup? *REPLY HAZY, TRY AGAIN*
Did you catch the insanity Berhalter was talking post game?
I don’t know if Pulisic is out of form or out of position, but there is a glaring lack of someone that can move the ball from the midfield into attack.
I don’t watch the Spanish-only broadcasts unless there’s absolutely nothing else on. I want the jibber-jabber even when it’s from some numbnuts like Twellman.
That said, yes, Pulisic has been a massive disappointment. I don’t watch Chelsea but I’ve heard he’s having problems there too.
Berhalter was saying how we dominated the game – well that’s true that Canada did not send the ball back or side to side near as much as we did. They just got it forward and in the goal.
*snort*
I bought myself a nice stationary bike and cycled for the first time in years. I kept a modest pace and managed a half hour, and would have kept going but my calf cramped up. But I’m pleased with it. I got an electric spiralizer, too, to make low-carb meals easier. Hoping to lose 30lbs and be fighting fit by summer.
Nice. I have a cheap spiralizer that is hand crank. Works fine and I am a fan of zucchini spirals covered with about anything.
I started out on the stationary bike about Spring of last year. Managed to do about a half hour at first, and am now regularly doing 18-25 miles every morning.
For me, the hardest thing was keeping interest after a half hour or so. I hooked up a keyboard, mouse pad, and 28” monitor to the bike and game while biking. As long as the game doesn’t require the keyboard, it doesn’t affect my workout, and I can go at least two hours no problem.
Surprisingly, I found music choice affects my mileage too. I tried putting on kids shows on the TV so the kids could hang out while I biked, but I actually dropped an avg 4 miles or so over Spotify tunes. So back to exercise music.
Goal setting can define challenging but achievable outcomes, whatever your sporting level or skills.
Not sure how many of you read Atomic Habits, but one thing that really stuck with me was his concept of systems over goals. Visualize the person you want to be and weigh that against your habits. Ask the question: would a (healthy, strong, successful etc) person do this? If not, don’t do it. He quoted Bill Walsh: “The score takes care of itself.”
I am fucking amazing at the XX day challenges. I dropped like 40 lbs doing the 75 Hard. But it’s the in between times that fuck me up. Trying hard to create new habits that will carry me between the resets and challenges.
That’s a hard lesson I learned in my firm. Systems are nearly everything. They determine the outcome 95%+ of the time.
I agree since your really need a system to achieve some Glib-fit goals…Fun Fact the Bengals could have had Bill Walsh as coach but decided on Bill Tiger Johnson instead!
Simple answer to in-btw times is to not have any…ha! Maybe limit in-btw times or interval of times.
I guess your struggle with the new habits is that being a young 50 yr socialite (extravert) and the prescribed new habits don’t mix. A lot of our gen social is eating badly, drinking too much, hanging around and staying up late…
Quick question: Would you consider doing long fasts (48hrs) 1/mo and sleeping another hour per night as a habit to achieve your goals for in-btw times ?
GO BENGALS!
Simple answer to in-btw times is to not have any…
That’s exactly it. I’m trying to reengineer my habits to be more compatible with where I want to be in this next phase of life. It ain’t easy!
Long fasts like that concern me as lifting is one of my primary things. I suppose I could do it during my normal two days off, but it intimidates me. The longest I’ve ever tried is about 30 hours. Thoughts?
I’ve made yuuuuge strides, though, on my sleep. Turns out creating a better sleep environment actually works!
I lift during a during a fast. Some say it is beneficial (Attia). You can go hard early in the fast (morning of) and lighten up toward the later phases of the fast because the spark may not be there. You can definitely keep hiking.
IMO if can do 30 hrs; you can easily do 36 hrs, b/c the most difficult time is btw 24-30 hrs (results may vary). After that it gets easier.
OK, I’l give it a try.
Water and electrolytes? How about coffee?
Yes. Yes, I get wicked headaches from caffeine withdrawal so I allow for myself.
I would limit water for maximal benefit since fat conversion releases water to your system.

Is Cincinnati’s defense that good or is KC’s offense out of sync?
KC forgot how to play football.
Well, there it is.
Yeup.
You know, it hurts because they are totally capable. They just DIDN’T.
Congratulations.
And the team that won the overtime coin toss didn’t win the game.
Sorry Mojeaux
Congrats!
Just pulling for the team that was our partner in misery for a long time. Burrow is really good, and came back well from the injury last year.
Here’s hoping that Baker comes back healthy next year as well.
We deserved tolose. They could’ve. They just didn’t.
My new mantra: I could’ve. So I did.
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen that happen in the 2 or 3 years I’ve been paying attention.
Before today, with the current rules where a FG on the opening drive doesn’t win the game, the team that won the OT coin toss was 10-1 in the playoffs.
I usually love me some Mahomes, but that was some extreme arrogance by him there.
He fumbles on what should’ve been the last play of the game (with all the time in the world) only to be bailed out by a teammate.
Then after winning the toss he forces three very silly throws in a row. All three were imminently intercept-able. Not Mr. Clutch there.
Plus a bad decision on the last play of the first half.
Yes. I told my husband several times this week that I hoped they wouldn’t get arrogant.

Thank you very, very, much l0B0t, for putting up the Great British Sewing Bee. I absolutely adore it.
Have some Depeche Mode.
When I was a wee slab-o-meat, not yet putrified, I spent a summer at a fairly high end swim camp. High end in the sense of an accomplished college coach with olympic coaching aspirations leading it, not in the sense of fancy-schmacy classy and expensive.
This coach and his team were very much into the sports psychology of the day and gave us all some sports psychology books to read. I don’t recall much, but there was one mental trick for that motivation part of the equation that I still remember. As you might imagine, training for swimming is challenging not only physically, but mentally as well. Up and down, back and forth (swimming laps you degnerates), over and over and it can be hard to maintain focus. I’m sure this is true in other sports too, but I don’t think it’s as overwhelming – runners can be outside with different scenery, team sports you can learn a lot actually *playing* so the training can be less drudgery.
So how do you maintain focus? This guys ‘trick’ was to envision your training as a jar of un-popped popcorn. During training, think of every lap, every turn, every set, as a kernel. Now when you slack on a turn, or take a lap off, or save-it-sally a set, remove a kernel from your jar. At the end of the week or the end of the month, it will be very easy to see what opportunities you squandered and left in the pool because the jar will be 3/4 full. He went so far as to actually recommend we keep a jar and actually physically follow through with the exercise. But really, the point was internalize this idea and, when you found yourself taking a lap easy or going in and out of a turn sloppily, shout to yourself internally “POPCORN!” to remind yourself not to take that set, that turn off, but keep pushing.
Did it work? Not really for me. I did think “popcorn!” when I slacked off, but then just continued right on slacking off. So maybe for someone with the right mindset to start with, those sorts of psychological tricks can help work through the rough spots, but without the right mindset going in, it’s not a magic bullet. But I still do find myself thinking “POPCORN!” from time to time when I want to avoid doing something hard, so maybe in the long run it worked?
I don’t care for popcorn. Gets stuck in the teeth.
/deliberately missing the point.
It’s one of the issues I have with riding the trainer. It’s so damned tedious. Sure, I can put on a television show to watch, but then if I start paying attention to that, I’ll start slacking on the pedaling. At least going to the classes, they put numbers on the board, so there’s a competitive aspect to push me to do better. Riding outside, there’s already natural changes, wind in the face, slack times to rest while still making forward progress, and destinations to visit.
Popcorn!

1981, 1988, and hopefully 2022. Let’s go Niners!
I have a slight soft-spot for SF even though I hated the year I lived there.
I hate everything about LA.
Let’s go Niners it is.
Yeah, it will be a cold day in hell before I root for an LA team
I’m not rooting for any team, but I’d like to see Stafford get a shot after he had to suffer in Detroit.
^^ this
I could easily live with that.
Meh. Don’t care about Matt Stafford.
I’ll be rooting for the Bengals regardless of the NFC outcome
I could cheer for the Rams just so Spanos has to eat extra shit all next season.
I’m mildly annoyed that OBJ is in the playoffs with a team. So… go 49ers now by default, and go Bengals in two weeks.
#dittoes
Right on. They are underdogs today and have been so all the playoffs. Jimmy G is no Joe Montana, but let’s see if their D can get them another win.
Now they’re showing all the celebs in their sky boxes supporting the Rams and I hate them even more. Especially Leo DiCaprio, the massive hypocrite.
No more 45 minute dog walks for me. Heading back to my own little shithole tomorrow morning. I’ll continue with my 30 minutes of aerobics.
Hit the gym hard this week but the wife and I hung out and did some unhealthy eating during the blizzard this weekend. We got almost 2’. I eastern ling island.
I’ve been taking a SARM called ostarine for about a month now after reading some good things about it. Im not really impressed, I feel good because Ive been at gym consistently but dont feel any stronger or that I have put on any muscle. Ive started to up my dose and also ordered a second type of SARM (andarine) that I will add on and see what happens.
Ive heard of these SARMS being compared to anabolic steroids, without the side effects, and I can say for sure that is not the case. Maybe stacking 2 will have more of an effect.
The idiot* responsible for keeping an eye on my fuel level for the furnace hadn’t checked in a long time…so last night my furnace stopped working. Spent the hours after waking up sorting that out then still had to do my errands for the week. Now I’m fucking exhausted.
Bought a slow cooker, I’ve never had one before. Put half a pork tenderloin I marinated in spices, lime juice and hot sauce in there with bell pepper, onion and black beans.
*That idiot is me.
That happened to me a few weeks ago. Ran out of out of oil in the furnace. It got down to 50 something during the night, but fortunately I have an electric heat pump as back up. The first place I called had a 3-4 week wait for deliveries. The second place came out the next day and was 70 cents cheaper a gallon. I’ve never seen more than 5 cents/gallon difference before among the oil places here.
I dumped in enough to get me through the few days until I can get a delivery, hence being exhausted trudging through the snow and having to go down and bleed the furnace. My thermostat was all the way down, which the lowest it goes is 50, so it was 50 or below in the house when I got up.
Some time back my brother threw a rager at his house. His buddy found him passed out, so he did the natural thing: doused him in water and turned off the heater on the way out the door.
Some idiot kept me up late last night drinking and carousing. Made me oversleep and I woke up with a headache. If I ever get my hands on that guy…

Uh huh.
Huh. I was about to upgrade to premium to pay them a bit for sticking to their guns. Guess I’ll have to figure out how to contact them and tell them I decided not to. I don’t need your warning labels and your curated content to tell me what to think about a podcast. They were doing so well. Jack-holes.
Oh for fucking fuck’s sake.
Guessing they got a phone call from someone in the Administration.
Yep.
There is so much content that they could have pivoted towards and they choose this route to think it will stop the bleeding from two wounds?
There is only one Science, given unto us by the Most High. Woe unto the disbeliever, may they be cast from the kingdom of knowledge and suffer the wrath that they brought unto thyself.
Better not.
I wonder who will be the all knowing person who can sort out what is real and fake information.
So they’re going to slap a content advisory on podcasts discussing the ‘vid, I’m finding in hard to give a fuck.
Tipper and Al and the PMRC nod sagely.
I used to have the advisory sticker T-shirt. I’m sure someone will make one for this.
And the outcome of that episode is one reason why I can’t get too worked up. Warning labels became status symbols, or ,as the case with the “TV-MA language, alchohol, violence” ratings, so ubiquitous that they are entirely ignored.
Point taken. Most people move past those warnings and some of those warnings stemmed from Government threats.
To a degree. Will it have the opposite effect? Maybe, systems slipping through fingers and all. But what bothers me about it is how it reflects on the current social zeitgeist. There is one truth and that truth is handed down from expert agents of the state. All content that dissents from state approved propaganda must be labeled as such and we must direct you to the one Truth in the hope you see the light. Only labeled. For now. But it is a symptom of the underlying asymmetry of the rules and customs and that is a symbol of the underlying rot in western society. Sure we can be be too cool for school just like The Hyperbole and dismiss it as this too will pass, no big deal. And 99% of the time you’ll be right. There’s just too many signs out there right now that this might be one of those 1% times.
As an aside Rogan does it all the time too. If he brings up something that’s remotely outside of the mainstream, he’ll fact check it on air, apologize for even having the view, “I’m really a left winger, I support all these left wing things, but”… When one side has to continuously apologize for their views and be directed to the ‘correct’ state-sponsored position, it is not a good omen for the future.
…Or what PM said.
All content that dissents from state approved propaganda must be labeled as such
maybe that’s what they will end up doing but their press release only says this-
“Add a content advisory to any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19.”
Bolding mine. If it’s an across the board disclaimer like the old “don’t try this at home” or “The views herein do not reflect he views of Blah blah blah” I got no bitch, If they eventually only target one side then I’ll adjust my opinion but I’m not going to get worked up over what they haven’t done yet.
“Add a content advisory to any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19.”
Do you honestly believe that will be applied equall
Or equally?
*hiccup*
Yes, saw that part too. it may be hard to discern what they would do since most of the propaganda does not need to seek out e.g. spotify. They have cnn, msnbc, nbc, youtube, etc to spread the word. We’ll see. If it is applied to all COVID content, that’s better, but it still sits wrong. It’s part of the safety first over-protective culture that is not compatible with a long term free society. IMNSHO.
Additionally, they will redirect you to their “COVID Portal”. Any bets about whether that’s going to be fair and balanced.
TH – I have no idea what Spotify will do, I’ll take them at their word until they give me reason to do otherwise.
PM – they said “direct” not ‘redirect”, a small distinction yes but the first implies “hey, check this out if you want” the latter implies “we are going to send you here whether you want it or not” the first I have no problem with the second yeah not cool, but I’ll wait ton see what they actually do it before I get upset.
also TH – I’d say sorry about the Chiefs, but they cheated last year against the Browns so I wouldn’t really mean it.
Seat belts are encouraged but not mandatory. No one will be ticketed for not wearing seat belts.
Fool me once but that really didn’t fool me at all.
Income tax will be 1 % and….
Come on, Man. Hard to BS and old BSer.
‘TH – I have no idea what Spotify will do, I’ll take them at their word until they give me reason to do otherwise.’
Fair enough.
As far as the Browns comment is considered, I’m far too stoned and tipsy for any immediate recall regarding your point of contention.
Re: the Cle/KC comment. Its mostly sore-loser-ism over a non-call on an obvious spearing helmet to helmet hit that turned what should have been a TD into a turnover. Would it have been the difference in the game? like all “woulda/shouldas” who knows? but it helps me get through the night.
Inch by inch. Eventually, only government approved speech is what we hear and if we hear anything outside of those approved speeches, it is met with ‘dangerous’ or their new moniker ‘misinformation’
This is something worth fighting back on. Its a continued appearance of government-backed policies driven by private companies. Honestly, if it were just the musicians who took their stands and Spotify went this direction I would be right there with you. But the Surgeon General of the United States calling for censorship…ya, I give a fuck.
‘Inch by inch. Eventually, only government approved speech is what we hear and if we hear anything outside of those approved speeches, it is met with ‘dangerous’ or their new moniker ‘misinformation’
Yep. This isn’t the age of the late 80’s/early 90’s where such warnings were regarded as a beacon for youthful rebellion and disent. The under 30 crowd is(at least from my anecdotal perception) the most willingly subservient to the State generation I’ve yet witnessed. Giving an inch today is taking a mile tomorrow.

“ Personally, there are plenty of individuals and views on Spotify that I disagree with strongly. We know we have a critical role to play in supporting creator expression while balancing it with the safety of our users. In that role, it is important to me that we don’t take on the position of being content censor while also making sure that there are rules in place and consequences for those who violate them.”
TL;DR version: I like free speech, but..
We aren’t saying you can’t own a gun or carry a gun, you just can’t carry it in town

Fuck this entire concept.
Information is dangerous so we need to follow the government’s guidelines.
Not just follow the guidelines, but actively root out and destroy anyone who speaks against or contrary to the approved guudelines
This.
There are situations where a TW is justified, I think. Budd Dwyer comes to mind – snuff films are shocking to most every normal person.
This is political. It is an opinion. The only time you are going to see a TW on this stuff is because the politics are not the “approved” politics. Which is weak and disgusting.
Absolutely. This new version of censorship is purely designed to crush political opposition.
Also, TWs are manners, not rules. It’s about the comfort of others, not their safety.
Have some Lee-Metford/Lee-Enfield porn.
Watched a show on amateur astronauts. Main focus was the crazy dude with his steam powered rocket that wanted to prove the earth was flat. Didn’t know he died…and they showed it. That is brave media. Spotify can suck a dick.
To be honest, I expected worse.
Links? C’mon Man!
“We used flat Earth as a PR stunt. … Flat Earth allowed us to get so much publicity that we kept going! I know he didn’t believe in flat Earth and it was a shtick.”
I assume that’s true of most flat-earthers.
Most likely. He even said something like “I am a truther” whatever that means but then next breath “I want to prove the Earth is flat”. My guess is second breath was for the money.
Well, it used to be flat. When did it get changed?
Anyone wanna play Pokémon Co with me? Go around town unmasked and unvaxxed trying to collect all the variants you can.

Hopefully, their convoy is on the up and up. Cause otherwise, it will look like one of the greatest grifts that doesn’t have government behind it.
Hahaha. Awesome, hope they can keep it up.
No kidding.
I’ve been getting photos and updates from people there. This is way bigger than I expected.
YouTube channel Ottawalks livestreams several times a day around Parliament Hill. I almost cried at how beautiful it was.
Right?
And not almost. Fucking Canucks doing what we should have,
Fucking Canucks doing what we should have,
I recall protesters in Michigan shutting down Lansing during the lockdowns. It was just for a day unlike this. I also remember some of those protesters getting into the State House with a lot of “OH MY GOD! ARMED PEOPLE IN THE STATE HOUSE! POLITICIANS WILL DIE!” coverage from the media.
I remember protesters at the Ohio state house and Kentucky state house making so much noise that you could hear them when the governors of those states had their Lil Rona Panic news conferences.
There were anti-lockdown protests in every state which had lockdowns. West Virginians being the last to get with the program and protest overreach from their governor. Protest size varied from the smallest being in Vermont (though to be fair, they did hold theirs during a snow storm) to California and Pennsylvania which I think were tied for biggest.
Since the lockdowns ended, some groups disbanded. Some groups continued on to push against vaccine mandates and mask insanity.
Things haven’t been anywhere near as bad in the US as in Canada. We have far fewer restrictions here. So a lot of incentive to protest and make noise such as what we’re seeing in Canada isn’t there. Plus two things. First, look at what happened with the Jan. 6th folks. I suspect people are seeing that if you protest on the wrong side, bad things will happen to you. Second, outside of certain parts of the country, there are lots of folks ignoring what few restrictions are left.
I saw pretty good turnout for the rally Dr. Robert Malone organized. It was only a one day thing instead of what we’re seeing in Canada, though I suspect the OSHA mandate getting shut down removed the motivation to protest.
Oh, and on incentives to protest: the Canada trucker mandate is a much bigger deal than the equivalent US mandate. Canada’s economy depends on the US. Canada’s economy is important to the US, but the US economy by no stretch of the imagination depends on the Canadian economy. “If the US economy gets a cold, Canada’s economy gets the flu.” Canada’s economy getting a cold doesn’t matter to the US.
Plus two things. First, look at what happened with the Jan. 6th folks. I suspect people are seeing that if you protest on the wrong side, bad things will happen to you.
Truth. Wife and I were thinking about getting involved in some protests/rallies/whatever. Jan 6th ended those thoughts. We don’t need one of us stuck in jail indefinitely with the other forced to single parent two small kids.
Yes, that is the intended effect with political prisoners.
And here I rant and realize that I’ve been slacking off because of work and other things. I received an action alert from Reopen NH about bill activity this week. Lots of stuff related to masks, vaccines, vaccine passports, etc..
KK, since you are here any opinion on Leerburg for dog training? My friend is in the middle of nowhere and she was wondering about their programs.
Do they use positive reinforcement?
My favorite for dog training, and it’s not even a close contest, is Ian Dunbar.
Brenda Aloff is also good.
Yes, they do, but I will pass along your recommendations.
Thanks!
Anyone that uses positive methods and clear, easy-to-follow instruction is OK by me!
They have good online classes. I still prefer training with other dogs, but you gotta do what your situation demands.
Back in DC?
So my doctor has got me afraid of food.
I have altered my diet to minimize carbs (no bread, no pasta), no sugar because of my (pre-)diabetes, and now I’m on a salt-restricted diet for my blood pressure and kidneys.
So I’ve gone to looking at nutrition labels and getting info from websites. Holy crap!
I’m restricted to 1500mg of sodium daily. The other day I sliced up some cabbage to make a cole slaw salad. The dressing is 550mg of sodium! 33% of my daily allowance in one bowl! Next one I made I used mayo with only 150mg.
Checked fast food. Lot’a Burger is out; one burger is 1250mg and that doesn’t include fries (also off the list because of starch/carbs). Each Chik fil A chicken nugget is a 150mg salt pill. I bought a tray of cold shrimp for this weekend. 20 shrimp (1/2 tray) nearly filled my daily quota at 1250mg. My dinner tonight was a Roma tomato, a big chunk of cucumber, and an avocado.
Respects to MoJo, but my self-enforced diet has me losing weight without an increase in activity. I haven’t weighed myself lately but I notice that my pants are a lot looser. It seems to be working, though; my BP has dropped and is now stable around 125/80.
Here’s to your health, Hobbit!
Thanks KK!
I was able to go to the fashionably thin weight, the one I didn’t have since my late 20s, by skipping lunch. Lockdowns shut down most lunch options around, I got tired of cooking lunch myself and then I didn’t even feel hungry. My exercise level stayed essentially the same. Somebody here mentioned ketone test strips in February 2020, I ordered them and was more motivated than ever before to follow the keto diet before the whole world went nuts.
I find it impossible to retain water on a low carb diet regardless of salt intake.
Just saying…
I’ll take the health problems, thanks.
My granny supposedly knew the Chanslors.
Nice job, Hobbit!
I totally disagree with the sodium shit. Once you get your kidneys working right you are much more likely to be short. Healthy people should be pounding 5g of sodium a day – more if they are really active. Not sure why these fucking doctors don’t know that.
For people who have their shit dialed in, sodium has nothing to do with BP.
I guess I’m not dialed-in because I’m seeing a positive correlation with my BP.
Not a big deal. As long as my belly continues to shrink I’m okay with it. I still manage to get a cheat day in now and then.
It’s shocking when you start reading the nutrition labels on everything.
Good luck.
Don’t be afraid of food. Be informed.

Greetings from Truckistan!
YAS!!!!
I haven’t been down to Parliament Hill, but on my drive back to town today on a 2-lane highway I saw at least 100 vehicles with large flags and probably 2 to 3 hundred more with small flags.
Flags in order of frequency :

2. F?ck Trudeau

Fuck yeah!
Who knew I could love Canucks this much?
Any of the polite hate bird ones?
No, just the regular racist snake ones.

Holy Shit….I wake up and find my Ben-GIRLS beat KC? In OT?
I must still be dreaming.

I slept thru the 2½ quarters and the beginning of OT myself.

Great song. Still don’t know why they released so little music when they had so much promise.
I was obsessed with the first album in 1989. The second one sucked.
One and done. Sometimes these types get caught up in trying to “evolve”, I think.
My Bloody Valentine followed a similar path. They finally put out a brilliant album 22 years later and it sounded exactly like the last one. Sometimes that’s all you need to do.
Good point. Now tell me what he was doing with the microphone in that video.
The second album didn’t totally suck:

I stand by my opinion.
YMMV
I agree the rest of that album is meh.
You’re ignoring the microphone. What the hell is doing with it in the video?

No beans.
CHILI SHOULD NOT HAVE BEANS. BEANS ARE HIGH CARBS!
Thank you, and good night. That is all
/ I have strong opinions about chili
If you are eating anything with beans, it’s not chili.
I hate most beans so I am in complete agreement with this.
Beans, Beans!
The musical fruit!
The more you eat, the more you toot!
The more toot, the better you feel!
So let’s have beans with every meal!
I don’t care about the tooting; I hate beans because most of them (esp. the kind that people add to chili) taste like shit.
I also have strong opinions about food, fast food, voting, circumcision, abortion, football, futbol, rugby, World Racing Championship road racing, Freestyle and Roman wrestling, curling, pizza, fries, world policy, world government, and local government. Just ask me!
[insert opinion about bbq, ducks for cover]

Did you say beef gravy on top?
OMG, I am about to cum!

But, I just watched an excellent older movie: The Friends of Eddie Coyle. 1973. Man, they sure made movies good back then. It doesn’t hurt to be based on a great novel, but I highly recommend this one, Robert Mitchum is excellent in it.

Maybe he means they took bad movies and made them good.

OT: Been working through Euclid’s Elements lately and just finished Book 1 today. As someone who detested anything remotely mathematical until a few years ago, I’m finding it surprisingly satisfying to look at something like the Pythagorean Theorem and grasp why it is true and tracing it all the way back to self-evident first principles. I used to scoff at the idea of “mathematical beauty”, but it’s a joyful moment when you can look at that construction and understand the harmony of all the parts.
It’s sad that this kind of reasoning is being viewed as outdated and inadequate today. If you ask the average person why they believe what they believe, the answer will likely be “because the experts said so”, and even more disheartening is that those experts would tell you “because our computer model said so”.
Ancient and medieval scholars arrived at wrong conclusions plenty of times with their methods, but I think if you combined their rational, inquisitive mindset with today’s technology, our scientific establishment would be in a much better place.
Thx. I’ve started it.
The Firster Theorem is more beautiful and significant than the Pythagorean.
When I was a little girl, dad took me to Sunday School and church a few times a year, and I knew the words to “Jesus Loves the Little Children” etc.
So I always thought of myself as Christian.
But my moment of true belief came about when I learned calculus. I knew then that there was a Creator. I really believe the Spirit (the “Helper”) was there with me at thst moment.
Do they still make law students take geometry classes to learn how to do geometric proofs?
That was always my favorite part of geometry. The methodical logic and discipline needed to derive a theorem, the way it forced you to think critically and not skip a step.
Do they teach that anymore? I had that class in 1990 public school in Oklahoma. I get the impression that public school education has de-emphasized classical teaching since then.
Go Rams.
I have to say, I’m on the Cinci bandwagon as much as I care. And I’m a Steelers fan.
Rams bought their team. It’s filled with mercurial assholes. Bungles are homegrown for the most part. A more gritty team, and I actually kind of like Burrow for the moment though I’m sure I’ll learn to hate him over the years.

But why? That’s sad.
Mornin y’all.

Good Morning My Fellow Insomniac Glibs.
Nice weekend weather, had great opportunities to get shit done.
But me, a non-tractor expert cant get my brand new tractor to connect with my brand new “quick-hitch” with my brand new “quick-hitch computable” rototiller or brush hogger.
Even looked at the manuals.
Pretty salty with the experience and the lack of help from company that I dropped 30K on. Weather today and partially tomorrow are supposed to be wonderful before it get very cold. Perhaps today will be better.
Sorry about your tractor trouble. Hope it doesn’t require another accessory that’s “sold separately,” and for which there are “supply chain issues.” ?
Morning Glibs.
My vacation’s over, so it’s a workday today 🙁
Did you have a good time? Can you work from home and recover?
I’m currently WFH until April or the in-office Mask Mandate ends. (Come April, I can put in new paperwork to extend that if they’re still being rock stupid)
I have heard that we are going to adjust our WFH situation to coming into office once/week.
Mind still blown from all of the change.
Officially we’re at 50/50, but there’s a braindead rule requiring masks even when sitting at your cubicle. I’m not going to do that.
I have an EO for that, which seems to be ignored, small shop, with doors.
I need to see about one of those “vacation” thingies. It’s not as much fun, though, unless there’s someplace pleasant to go – even if it’s just my back porch. ?
Maine was nice. Well, it was a wintery miserable place that reminded me of home, but I was indoors most of the time. In late spring it was much nicer, except for the crowds.
I might get a “snow day” this week, based on the current forecast for Thursday:
Wouldn’t break my heart, since we’re scheduled to have the one meeting for which I have to take minutes – and which is full of arcane financial terminology that makes my brain hurt. I hope my boss doesn’t suggest I get set up to work from home since we have the meeting via Zoom anyway…
Fun.
Don’t let them trick you into doing something you don’t want to. Like responding to a canvass for a job in Poughkeepsie. Oh wait, that was me.
The only thing I know about Poughkeepsie is this song (by a Cincinnati-based band, BTW) about someone who almost commits suicide but thinks better of it.
Is Poughkeepsie the kind of place that makes you want to kill yourself?
Mornin’ GT.
Is Poughkeepsie the kind of place that makes you want to kill yourself?
Not necessarily. We spent some time there 4 years ago when my son was looking at colleges; Marist College is located there. It’s on the Hudson River, there are some beautiful views.
I never understood why the protagonist in the song had to go all the way to Poughkeepsie when Cincinnati has a perfectly good river into which to jump. Maybe she just liked the sound of the name.
Oh, hey, only 3,000 work emails for the time I was gone.
Slow week.
(I am not exaggerating, if anything I rounded down)
I’m sure only 1000 or so are “urgent”. Have fun, careful you don’t wear out the “del” key.
The fun ones are where people sent a “Suchandsuch is down!” email directly to me and to no one else last monday.
I hope you can ignore most of those. I get hundreds a day that go straight to a folder named “Ignore”.
Well, yeah, about 2700 or so landed in the various “Automatic Messages” folders. Those have a short shelf-life since they’re things like system alerts. If they haven’t been addressed by now, the rest of the team had better have a good excuse.
I got to wake up to a dog puking up his dinner a breakfast. He the proceeded to go outside for 20 minutes any try to eat grass. There is no grass that is not covered by 4” of snow and it’s 2 deg American out.
Looks like I’m WFH today.
Good morning, ‘loosey, U, ‘bodru, & Sean!
I, too, just had a pet mess to clean up – luckily, just a hairball. The boys are already on the “Indoor – weight & hairball control” food, so I guess I should just make a point of brushing them. They actually seem to like it, unlike Previous Cat, who hated being brushed but whose fur matted something fierce.
Mornin’, TL and the rest of you reprobates.
Looks like I’m WFH today.
#metoo, I love my commute. Mrs. Patzer and the eldest orphan are on-site today, got the house to myself.
Mornin’ Glibbies! I am sooo sorry for the fans of the Chiefs and the the 69ers and also the people that follow fag-ball down there in Canada’s basement. Not you, Mojo, you’re cool.
Morning’, Festus! As a red-blooded American deplorable it pains me to say this, but I prefer Canadian Football to ours. Multiple men in motion, no touchbacks, 3 downs, I love it.
It was a lot more fun to play. Way more free-flowing.
I mean, we only needed to import a bunch of black guys so our team wouldn’t suck anymore. I was under the impression that America did that 400 years ago. I keed! I don’t care about soccer, just twisting yer tails…

whats goody
Donno. Sifting work emails from vacation, trying to catch up on things that happened which I have to pay attention to.
A local trucker rally that drew about 1500 bystanders in support of the big one going on in Ottawa. Not covered by the local news. People are busy, that should be a big fucking deal. Judi, Autumn, Morgan and their friends were there. Radio silence. I’ve seen the videos. Loud and raucous.
Funny how people wake up when they are prevented from earning a living. I expect (hope?) to see more of this.
I will admit that I’ve never seen a grass roots movement like this. People are pissed the fuck off.
