Anyone up for a land war in Eastern Europe? Anybody?

Yeah, Ukraine is about to be overrun, the Twink in the North has gone full fascist, inflation is 7.5% but hey! The sun is out.

Links anybody?

Poor bastard must just be bewildered.

LeBron has yet to comment.

Hmm. Pretty soon, it’s going to be dicks out for Hank.

I report, you decide.

Checks zipcode.

A story the world has been following with baited breath.

Okey doke. Time to go enjoy the sun. Peace out, Glibs.

The cars in the ship are worth over $200M more than the vessel according to business reports. At a certain point let somebody put a couple of torpedoes in the hull and get rid to the hazard to shipping.

On topic reply posted to Hayek as the old post died.

I agree with you to a large extent HE, but if Russia invades, that changes the nature of the fight from a civil war to an international war. If the Ukraine wants to buy arms, okay by me. If Americans want to form a private “Obama Brigade” and fight under the Ukrainian flag- I don’t know why you would want to- but okay. Private intelligence companies want to sell products and services to the Ukraine government- go ahead. The Ukraine government is corrupt, but even corrupt governments deserve to be able to defend their territory from outside invaders.

What we don’t need to do as a part of official US policy, and with US gov provided dollars, is to fight Russia for a non-treaty country. This is doubly the case when the Russian military is organized, trained, and equipped to fight a high-end fight and the US is not. If for some reason biden decides to put US forces in harms way many many Americans will die. After two decades of fighting a low-end warfare against insurgents our military is organized, trained and equipped for that. Nobody’s fault, that is what happens. Compared to 9/11 we have huge deficits of heavy infantry and armor, a pitiful amount of tube artillery, not enough missile artillery to do anything but be wiped out, no credible air defenses, shortages of munitions of all types, and no real industrial base to support a heavy fight. That is just the ground forces. When you look at where we are with air and sea power we are even worse off. Since we almost totally closed the German based equipment depots (aka POMCUS sites) every bleeding thing will need to be put in hulls and shipped over. The Russian navy is not the USSR navy but not that many of the few hulls we have need to be sunk to break the “Atlantic Bridge.” Don’t even get me started on the Cyber fight.

NATO and the EU won’t do much since Germany and France want energy to flow west and their goods and services to flow east. With them trying to sidestep any economic sanctions it won’t mean much in the short term for any US sanctions. Putin has been economically preparing for the option of war for over a year. Any sanctions might mean fewer Russian “party girls” in Florida for spring break (sorry FL men) but since Putin has been de-dollaring his economy and stockpiling grain and strategic materials the Russian economy has plenty of fat on the bone for short term sanctions.

The western Euro countries have once again proved themselves to be little yappy dogs inside barking at the big dog on the street. All the talk of an independent EU military capacity has gone away again. The big dog heard the yaps and is standing in the front gate. Now the little dog is looking for the American pitbull and UK bulldog to back up the yapping- except they can’t and are hopefully not interested in trying.

shorter version: we have zero interests there, so, no, you can’t waste my son on some empty-headed posture…”Ukraine” shall not be on his tombstone

the ability to interpret an overseas, tribal situation as some clear and present danger is never in short supply; if we are not resolutely isolationist, there is, frankly, no reason not to be at war somewhere every day because reasons…..that clowncar never runs out of gas and has never, not once, since Pearl Harbor delivered a benefit that was remotely worth the sacrifice….checks watch: 77 years of pointlessness

      • dbleagle

Kinda ironic that today is the anniversary of FDR signing the EO that put American citizens into camps.

        No arguments from me Don.

      • Don escaped Texas

I have an abiding disinterest in regional quasi-ethnic squabbles. I do believe in autonomy, but, as Glibs must surely tire of my repeating, great countries are built by sacrifice……you gotta earn it the old-fashioned way: die in massive piles.

I don’t care whether Ukraine is an SSR or cousin to Mother Russia or one of those Lithuania-Poland-Austria-Hungary-Time-Warner-AOL deals….all this crap is arbitrary, Vikings and Slavs sailing and mingling and fighting for over a millennium now. My own people have been horrid on damned near every continent; I am in a warm bed in premium Chickasaw land as I write. Can’t fix it; there is no fix. I’m not going back to Islay…..which, again, is it Pict, Viking, or German?

    • juris imprudent

Russia right now is the second biggest source of oil into the U.S. – does anything more need to be said about that. Man it’s like Trump is still president – doing so much business with Putin, right?

    • hayeksplosives

      And reposting my reply:

What we don’t know is whether Putin originally intended to invade or if the “military exercises” were all for show and intimidation, not to mention to enhance Putin’s popularity with his people.

It seems like Biden isn’t trying to give Putin any opportunity to back down, and to the contrary, seems to want an invasion, despite the cost to America in lives and resources.

      • dbleagle

As much as biden can be counted on “to fuck things up” according to a certain boss of his, I can’t really blame biden’s reaction to Putin’s central demand. biden, and the other NATO leaders, won’t agree to dismantle a key pillar of NATO because of a Russian demand.

Putin’s demands hand the initiative to NATO, something you probably wouldn’t do if you were serious about keeping the peace. That doesn’t mean I think it is inevitable that Russia will invade the two eastern oblasts and try to establish an overland corridor to Crimea. If he can sow division among the EU/NATO nations he still gets most of his larger goals.

      • hayeksplosives

I guess the best we can hope for is wise leadership from the US top brass.

      • db

        Gee, thanks for that

      • juris imprudent

That’s a very slender thread to hang any hopes on.

      • juris imprudent

Well, my opinion on The System that produces the senior officer corps is that while a competent one may slip through now and then, the primary output is compliant, complacent, warm-bodies content to sit in a chair for four years.

      • cyto

Late to the party, but I totally agree with this.

I have no idea why, but the Biden administration seems to be hell bent on goading Russia into invading Ukraine.

His whole “if there is boots on the ground, our response will be swift and unified… We will have serious sanctions and you will totally regret it.” scheme seems to be entirely designed to signal Russia the all clear. The bigger block of NATO opting out is a second large signal.

I don’t know if they ever had any intentions in Ukraine. The leadership of a Ukraine sure didn’t think so.

And with the Biden family on the take from foreign interests, who knows how that plays I to it.

        The whole thing is weird.

But it is so much better now that the adults are back in charge…..

      • Loveconstitution1789

How does one “goad Russia into invading Ukraine”?

Russia’s Commie leader is Putin, a Communist era KGB hack, is being super aggressive. He is violating international law by invading Crimea and now mainland Ukraine.

      • cyto

I do not intend to absolve Putin of culpability or rob him of agency…. But the order of events is weird.

Long before either Russia or Ukraine started talking about this, we started talking about it. Well before troop movements for “joint exercises”, Biden wass saying Russia is going to attack Ukraine. And he said it by warning Putin … Do not invade Ukraine, or else!!

Ukraine was saying there is no such threat. Putin was denying it. Biden wasn’t.

Then we started talking about our response… We will totally put sanctions on you!! Which most of Europe will not participate in.

And then we warned of false flag provocations, as if providing a roadmap.

I do not pretend to know why, but the actions of the protagonists doesn’t make sense. Why would Putin suddenly start asking for NATO consessions? If he is really invading, he should not care about NATO.

        It is all weird.

I mean, Russia has wanted chunks of Ukraine and Georgia for decades. They have lopped of some bits as they sqw fit. So it isn’t beyond the pale. But the sequence is weird. Why is the US at odds with Ukraine on this?

There has to be a piece missing. Maybe Russian elements in Ukraine are manipulating Ukraine and the US.

    • Fourscore

We repeatedly hear that “America is the most powerful nation on earth”

While that may be true if we’re counting nukes but I’m not sure if we’re relying on conventional forces. The most recent 50 years’ encounters have been not too successful when engaging other less conventional forces.

      • cyto

Well, that isn’t true. The Gulf War demonstrated the vast gap between Soviet/Russian tech and US tech.

Our air superiority should allow us to wipe out any invading force quickly.

The problem is, this would be fighting Russia at their own border. And that seriously isn’t happening. No military commander is going to fight an enemy who can hide across the border again (Cambodia), and there is no way we are fighting on Russian soil.

There is no way to effectively intervene here. I don’t know why they even started the saber rattling. It is beyond stupid. If you are not going to invade Russia, you cannot win. And we ain’t invading Russia.

    • Loveconstitution1789

Why would fighting for Ukraine and national independence be equated to Obama who is a Communist?

I can get rectified spirits, which arecabout the practical limit for ethanol purity. Everclear is typically only 180 or 190 in comparison.

Mostly peaceful til the cops showed up

Police addressed the public Saturday regarding the ongoing trucker Freedom Convoy protests raging in Ottawa, Canada.

The press conference comes on the heels of mass arrests and aggravated clashes between law enforcement and the protesters, who have now grown in numbers to include not only Canadian truck drivers but also members of the public and even Americans who have traveled to join the cause.

They faced a barrage of resistance, shoving and vitriol. We all saw that the protesters were aggressive with the officers and we needed to use horses at one point,” Police Chief Steven Bell said at the conference. “As a result, we responded this morning by adding helmets and batons to our equipment for the safety of our officers.

He continued, “Our officers continued to face resistance at one point, a flare was ignited by a protester. Officers used a chemical irritant also known as pepper spray, to disperse unlawful demonstrators who were resisting police orders. Sadly, we again saw young children being brought to the unlawful demonstration and to the front of our police.”

    “Respecxk muh authoritay! Stop resisting!

Serious question. If elections are all rigged, our governments are no longer restrained by constitutions or laws, cops will do any evil shit they are told, and protestors have their lives ruined – why not use violence?

    • Don escaped Texas

My data are thin, but I think it’s nothing more than that some very popular conservatarians in the Mises camp said out loud what they believe

I’m very patient with the Austrian School, but the camp that flies those colors always struck me as holier than thou and missing the grand opportunity to draw support, sympathy, and conversions by pretending they have a unified theory of everything and creating a zealous cohort prepared to argue every trivial semantic splinter to the death

Hadn’t played basically in two months due to weather….very wet here. At the clubhouse by 7, I sat and drank coffee for two hours until the frost boiled off.

Tripled the first hole with a royal sampling of incompetences.

    Then bogeyed the second.

Then par, par, birdie, par, par.

    Bogey

Cut around dogleg, iron a bit left, bump on, tap in par.

Hooked 5 iron over crepe myrtles: bogey.

par: three over on the front

    Back starts with a par.

11: Long fade lands on 14th tee. Hmm…not supposed to be over here….trees on right obscure green, of course. From 150 I hit a low fade around the trees that cuts into the front of the green and runs up the middle. Two putt for par. Holy shit that never works out like it should.

    12. Pull draw OB. Air a gap pin high, miss from 15. Par…………plus OB: double.

    Bogey….the old groove? Bogey again.

But then par, par, and inches from par.

    18. Hook five OB. Lob wedge high over pin, hit top shelf, spins back and down twenty foot to leave a gimme putt: par plus OB = double.

Ten over my first round of the year, cold, stiff.

    • creech

Yeah, I can easily do ten over par….for the first five holes.

      • Don escaped Texas

She did have an episode where she really railed against the whole “follow the Science” crap. She still comes across a bit lefty at times though.

I also think she’s kinda cute, in a goofy sort of way, definitely would.

      • Hyperion

        “German female Physicist”

eh heh, now we know why you like her. Show us where she peed on you.

      • rhywun

She does have that German female look thing going.

      • Hyperion

Nah, she doesn’t do it for me, I don’t even want her to pee on me.

A few years ago that would have been unbelievable satire. Now, it’s real. *smdh*

Hey you war pigs. Why are we at war again with East … Europe… err I mean West Asia?

Why are the Ukranians the good guys? Why are the Russians the bad guys?

Funny tonight, I was playing a MMORPG, New World and me and 2 of my friends were supposed to run a dungeon. Only I stood around for about an hour, no shows. Were the fuck are they? Texts, nope. Fuck it.

Then this guy shows up ‘Hey, want to duel!?’. No, macho man, you fucktwat, I want to run this dungeon, you want to do it? ‘I dunno, maybe I wanna do it’. Sigh…

Anyway, after about another 15 minutes, macho man comes back and says ‘Hey, let’s do it, I got another guy to help us’. It takes 3 to do that dungeon or you cannot get in. Cool.

So we went in and crushed the dungeon. They were actually pretty cool. One thing I can tell you, they were both Russian.

Anyway, moral of the story is, I have no fucking idea. Why are we going to defend Ukraine?

      • MikeS

I’ve always been partial to these War Pigs.

      • Chafed

It’s a hell of a cover. But it’s still a cover. The original, played by the masters, is still the best. ??

      • MikeS

For sure. But, for what ever reason, Faith No More’s version was the first time I heard the song. Or maybe, paid attention to the song…not sure. I listened to that album over and over, and their version really got burned into my brain.

      • Chafed

I get it. It’s like people who first heard Sabbath when Dio was singing. It’s great music. It’s just not the ideal entry point for Black Sabbath.

      • MikeS

The cray part is that cover song is over 30 years old.

        ?

      • Hyperion

My God, that is fantastic, sharing…

Russia is aggressively taking ukrainian territory in violation of international law. If russia doesnt want to abide by borders, fine. lets take the kuril islands back and give them to japan.

Not saying AMerica should get involved militarily but Russia is clearly the bad guy.

      • NoDakMat

International law? Nope. Not a thing. Not our mess. Biden will find a way to make sure it is.

      • NoDakMat

my suggestion; listen to some Fats Domino. Walking to New Orleans, Aint That A Shame, I’m Walkin’, I’m gonna be a wheel some day, my blue heaven… fats had shitloads of good songs. Check ’em out!

Seriously, somebody please scrub this thread.

Unless Polka Dot Gift Box is what the kids say nowadays instead of prostate massage, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Why Canada Will Become a Dictatorship Under Trudeau

The leader of that party does what he wants, when he wants, and no one dares question him. Would a Prime Minister Trudeau arbitrarily whip the vote and outlaw certain moral questions? Could Prime Minister Trudeau be trusted to make decisions for the good of the country, not just for his personal self-worth? Would Trudeau call in the police to enforce his vision? Let’s hope we never have the opportunity to ask those questions.

Took a few years, but I think those questions have been answered.

    • Hyperion

LOL. Trudy a dicatator? Stalin would whoop this girly boy like a red headed step child. What the fuck is it with these weak ass dictators?

      • creech

Hitler wouldn’t have lasted 1 round with Stalin either, but I’ll bet even Wolf could beat the crap out of Trudy.

      • Hyperion

Imagine how many rounds Biden would last with Putin. I want to see it, open cage death match, now. We can hold new eletions tomorrow.

      • Hyperion

Or elections, that would work too.

    Good Morning:
There was a comment in this post about the poling on Canadian demonstrations….
Since TMITE, I now cant trust poling on anything controversial.

German scientist also took down her tweet.

    • Don escaped Texas

look at it another way: Trudeau didn’t come to power by coup; his crew is duly elected…there’s your poll

they’re half French up there and have been getting freedom wrong since forever

consider the number of Americans whose idea of freedom is you’re okay to do whatever I believe in and then just add a little Canada factor and what sort of people and society do you get?

I’m going to include William Wilberforce in that Brit list. Churchill, Nelson – the obvious choices. George III, probably, because that will go down very well here perhaps. George Boole? Douglas Bader? Alan Turing?

It’s got me thinking. I won’t do the list any justice by just dumping a bunch of names in a post.

I saw that show in Juárez once. On the way home from White Sands I was passing through Ft. Bliss and had a weekend stayover, so we decided to cross the border, get drunk, and nose around.
I havent seen the world through those same eyes since.

    • limey

Howdy 4×20. Power out this morning, again. First coffee delayed by deciding to stay in and wait rather than fire up a camp stove. It paid off since the power was back within a couple of hours. Maybe I’ll run propane indoors for a gas hob in case this becomes regular.

So very happy to be sleeping in my own bed after last week’s business trip.

Unfortunately, my dear hubs is three sheets to thee wind and lying in his recliner now, so he’s sawing logs loudly. I left him there since his CPAP machine is pretty much toast now.

    • Not Adahn

I have been very fortunate — I’ve been using the same CPAP nightly since… 2005? The daa antenna has broken off, but I’m well outside the surveillance phase, so that’s NBD

    • Fourscore

I’m not a very good traveler but back when I did travel I wasn’t very good either. I was always in a hurry to get to my destination and then get back home after the trip. Now I ‘m really a stick-in-the-mud, hate to leave home for the most part.

  38. Gender Traitor

Good morning, HE, 4(20), homey, limey, TH, DeT, rhy, NA, and ‘bodru!

I woke up to find a hairball in the hall right outside the bedroom. The day HAS to get better after that, right?

I’m also concerned because my phone is starting to make little Rice Krispie noises, usually right after I turn the screen on. I’m worried the display is ailing, and I wonder if my day off tomorrow will be spent in a Spectrum store getting a replacement. ?
