The 24 Hour Twitter Challenge

by | Apr 20, 2022 | KHAAAAAANNN!!!, Opinion, Social Media | 413 comments

Boooooo!!!!!!!

I have posted on my dislike of “Twitter Journalism” before. A self referential circle jerk of lazy posting. Bah. [Editor’s note: the original link attempted to open the referenced article in Edit mode; the link has been updated to a direct link to the article.]

But what has really started to alarm me is that our very own comments sections of posts are turning into this as well. People are just slapping up a link to a Twit and maybe adding a couple of words of their own. I get it…it is easy. You find funny stuff, wit, scathing remarks, statements, news, etc.

But this site was created to be something unique…and I hate to see it become naught more than a posting board for favorite Twitter stuff and Quordle scores. OK, that last bit went too far – I like that there is yet another thing that creates a sense of community amongst us, I am just being all Abe Simpson here.

You kids and your electronical play thingies!

Twitter is a useful tool, and I wish it would remain only that. Heck, our site has a Twitter account and link. I just don’t want it to become the overarching form of communication here.

THEREFORE, I am issuing the following challenge:

For the entirety of Thursday, April 21st…no Twitter links, references or posting on the site.

Lets see if we can do this. After that, we can return to me not being your supervisor, and you not being detained.

P.S. Yes, go ahead and point to today’s SugarLinks. *sticks jaw out pugnaciously*

  1. The Hyperbole

Over and under on how many Twitter links are posted on this thread?

    • juris imprudent

I say none here, but at least 10 in the zoom chat.

    • Sensei

      Only after midnight?

      • Zwak,The Baddest Johnny on the Apple Cart

They will let it all tweet out?

  2. juris imprudent

I only see Twitter links here or from one friend who will forward me an interesting one from time to time. I don’t have an account, and in general consider it a sewer (that does, rarely, have something of genuine value – just as someone’s diamond ring makes it past the trap and into the main flow). Therefore I accept the challenge, as it is absolutely no skin off my ass.

    • rhywun

Same. I have never posted one and never will.

      • Fourscore

I am not a twit and will not tweet, which is not to say I don’t guffaw at what others post. Challenge excepted.

I also will not Quordle with anyone, no time, man

      • rhywun

I quit Quordle. No improvement after weeks and I got tired of being near the bottom and/or chumping out.

      • TARDis

I’m thinking I’ll keep playing and let the posting go. It’s a great stress reliever at work, if I can get to it.

      • The Hyperbole

Sorry to hear that, we’ll always think of you when someone MikeS’s or as you dubbed it double chumps.

      • Not Adahn

Embrace the healing power of not giving a fuck.

For me, it’s a lot easier since I don’t like word puzzles very much.

      • The Hyperbole

All I care about is doing better MikeS

      • MikeS

It’s so important you can’t even form proper sentences. Sad!

    • trshmnstr the terrible

      ^^

By the way, Eyepiece has a Twitter link blocker for those who don’t want to accidently stumble into that particular sewer.

      • juris imprudent

I’m okay with other people filtering for me. I can’t imagine ever putting myself at the mercy of the platform natively.

      • Chafed

Does this mean we are getting our arrows back?

    • Chafed

Twitter is a sewer is among the truest words ever spoken.

  3. Gustave Lytton

Follow up: 24 hours of Switzy joining in punning, no narrowed gazes. Let’s see who would break first…

    • Shpip

For the puns, we don’t need a narrowed gaze. Just a sighsmograph.

  4. Mojeaux

There are a whole hell of a lot of shit posted in the comments that I don’t like or actively loathe. We gonna go on a fast for everything anybody doesn’t like?

    • wdalasio

Care to share? They may merit a day of refraining, as well.

I honestly think exercises like this, omitting “crutch” behaviors can sometimes be a neat exercise.

      • Mojeaux

No, because I try not to complain too much, since this site is free and I love it here and it is basically almost the entirety of my social interaction. Other people like what I don’t and this is a large community and de gustibus and all that.

What I will say is that I miss all the posters who have stopped posting, and miss the quantity and quality of discussion we’ve had in the past. You can tell because the comments are way down. I doubt they left because Twitter gets linked in some comments.

      • Hyperion

“No, because I try not to complain too much”

        Can I help?

      • Count Potato

I think adding forums may have contributing to fewer comments here.

      • Mojeaux

We have a lot of people on Discord, too.

I think the forum is useful for information sharing and archiving purposes. Things don’t get lost in the shuffle.

      • Count Potato

I’ve never been on our Discord. Anyway, whereas it’s the forum very well maybe useful for information sharing, archiving, and other purposes, people only have so much time.

      • MikeS

When the discord got started there was a very sudden and noticeable outmigration of a number of Glibs.

      • Mojeaux

        Noticed that too.

Discord has too many subrooms and I have the attention span of a gnat, so I have a hard time following along and having conversations.

      • MikeS

Yup. It is way too granular. I’d rather have it all laid out and let me engage, or not, as I scroll down the page.

      • rhywun

Discord is not at all for me. I went there once, shrugged, and left.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Ditto. Both the platform and the content was immediately uninteresting to me. Maybe you have to be a gamer to get it?

      • TARDis

There are a lot of inactive people on Discord. Only about 10 active.

      • MikeS

Yeah. The Zooms have destroyed commenting three nights a week.

      • Chafed

        Not for all of us.

      • MikeS

Not all of us live on the west coast.

      • Gustave Lytton

I’d caveat that with though zooms aren’t my thing, I know they’ve provided a lot of companionship and community to other Glibs over the past two years, and I’m grateful particularly to the ones who have setup and ran them since.

      • Gustave Lytton

Not everyone can live on the best coast. Otherwise this whole place would flip right over like Guam. Thank you for doing your part to hold down the continent, MikeS. You’re doing yeomens service there.

      • MikeS

        *curtsies*

    • rhywun

Agree. My scrolling finger does get a workout.

    • Hyperion

“There are a whole hell of a lot of shit posted in the comments that I don’t like or actively loathe.”

      ???

      • Mojeaux

I know, right? I am ashamed of my grammar, since “shit” is a collective noun. “There IS a whole hell of a lot …”

      • Hyperion

I wasn’t trying to play grammer Nazi, but actually was trying to address your greivances. Examples of comments here you loathe?

      • TARDis

        ^^^

      • Mojeaux

I said I didn’t want to say because other people like things I don’t. People don’t HAVE to click on the Twitter links if they don’t want to.

I was side-stepping your comment by deflecting to grammar.

      • Hyperion

Wait, are we talking about Glibs or Twatter?

      • Mojeaux

        Glibs.

      • Hyperion

        OK, examples of hated posts?

      • Mojeaux

Which part of “I don’t want to say” are we not getting?

      • Hyperion

I get all of it, just do not agree with it as any type of solution to anything.

      • Mojeaux

just do not agree with it as any type of solution to anything.

Well, I think we may possibly be in violent agreement. I am also not in favor of yucking someone else’s yum.

      • Mojeaux

Except for MikeS. I will yuck his yum all day long.

      • slumbrew

“ I will yuck his yum all day long.”

        Go on…

      • MikeS

Except for MikeS. I will yuck his yum all day long.

I would feel slighted were that not the case.

        M’lady.

        *deep bow*

      • Hyperion

“Except for MikeS. I will yuck his yum all day long.”

Can y’all just get a room so that we don’t have to skip past these posts we find offensive?

      • R.J.

The new term is “grammar fascist.”

      • Mojeaux

        I’ll own it.

      • dbleagle

I think “grammar prog” is more attuned to 2022.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’ll cosign along with Moj. I doubt she and I have the same list, but a lot of the motivation behind me building the content controls into Eyepiece was “gee, I don’t like that suchandso keeps posting this same kind of shit ad infinitum. Other people seem to like it, but I don’t. Can I make it go away so that I don’t have to scroll past it in every article?”

It’s too bad that there are no Android browsers that support extensions anymore. I miss Eyepiece.

      • Hyperion

I still do not see any examples of these posts.

      • The Hyperbole

        Q’s tits
        Bro’s firsts
        Winston’s strawmen
        Hype’s DQR
        Sean’s Beef and Guns
what ever it is Tres is always doing
Three or four glibs who use the site as a personal venting mechanism
        Hype’s Beach Boy Bashing.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

And the constant Twitter links to that person I’ve never heard of who totally owned that other person I’ve never heard of or that person who was, like, totally stupid for saying or doing that thing they said or did.

I downloaded Kiwi browser to get Eyepiece back. Now I’m happy again ?

      • R.J.

I am with you on the Twitter thing. I have no idea who half of those people are.

      • Mojeaux

Three or four glibs who use the site as a personal venting mechanism

        That would be me.

I’m quite sure I annoy some other people, too.

      • Hyperion

“I’m quite sure I annoy some other people, too.”

Not me, I can survive your smut pr0n literature.

      • Count Potato

        Well, I think you’re adorable.

      • Ted S.

Is that Mojeaux or Hyperion you find adorable?

      • Fourscore

        Why would you care, Ted’S?

      • Hyperion

When you reference Hype’s, are you talking about the real authentic and original Hype, or the fake one, you? No insult intended, but I have proof I was here a full 2 minutes before you and yet I have not insisted that you change your name.

I don’t get why anyone cannot just ignore those and not click on the links, or are we going to censorshop mode here?

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I don’t get why anyone cannot just ignore those and not click on the links, or are we going to censorshop mode here?

Notice Swiss’s wording. It’s a challenge, not a mandate. I presume that he chose his words carefully.

Why can’t people just scroll past? Because the signal to noise ratio impacts participation. When you have to scroll past a thread or two to get to actual interesting conversation, no big deal. When you have to scroll past a drudge comment section worth of noise to find the signal, you’re probably going to eventually disappear to greener pastures.

Post what you want, don’t post what you don’t want. I don’t apologize for blocking people and content from my view. Frankly, I’d build those per-user controls into the site if I could.

      • The Hyperbole

Just giving examples of post some people might find annoying and would rather not see, not pushing for censorshop [sic] (spellchecking might be nice), I have often extolled the virtues of the scroll wheeled mouse.

      • Hyperion

Well, you know, Trashy. The cure cannot be worse than the disease, so we have to choose carefully here with what we do.

My biggest disappointment with Glibs so far, and I love it more than any site I have participated on, is that we have cancelled certain people, like Eddie and John. I wish we had not done that. O’s titty posts are the least of my concerns.

      • Hyperion

You know, I mean Q’s. I second Elons’s idea of an edit button.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Q’s titty posts are the least of my concerns.

Ditto. I have the nuke button to make them disappear. NBD.

The bigger concern is the same one that finally got me to dump my Facebook account, and I think it’s the same one that Swiss has.

Back in the day, I downloaded some browser extension that allowed me to filter my Facebook feed to the stuff I actually cared about. My feed went from hundreds of posts per day to around 2. I realized I wasn’t missing much, and I deleted my account.

What happens when a lot of the people who have made and still make this site interesting decide that they’re only seeing 2 threads per day that are worth reading, and the rest is noise?

I’ll admit to feeling that way over the past few months. The community itself is what keeps me coming back. The Twitter link, Twitter link, almost porn, Twitter link, Twitter link, tabloid link, right wing blog link (about some stupid Twitter fight) , CNN link (about some stupid Twitter fight) , something half interesting, quordle scores, Twitter link, AP link (about some stupid Twitter fight) cadence of the threads doesn’t do much for me.

IDK, maybe it’s my issue that I need to fix, but I definitely sympathize with Swiss.

      • Gustave Lytton

My biggest disappointment with Glibs so far, and I love it more than any site I have participated on, is that we have cancelled certain people, like Eddie and John.

Both of those two went shitflinging crazy. I miss the ones who moved on/ran off who espoused somewhat heterodox views to the Glib hivemind.

      • Mad Scientist

What happens when a lot of the people who have made and still make this site interesting decide that they’re only seeing 2 threads per day that are worth reading, and the rest is noise?

I’ve been reading less and less for that exact reason. That said, I haven’t contributed anything interesting in quite some time, so maybe I should put up or shut up.

      • Chafed

I miss HM AND MLW. I have no idea why they disappeared.

      • Raven Nation

        “I miss HM & MLW.”

Can’t comment on HM but MLW is v. active on Discord. When I was over there a few weeks back she said she still loves everyone over here but she can’t do the site AND Discord and preferred Discord. She also wanted to assure everyone that watching Woke Charmed had not broken her brain.

I have the same problems with Discord that others have: (i) too many threads (? topics to keep up with); (ii) you have to respond almost immediately to stay part of the conversation. My brain doesn’t function that way most of the time.

      • Count Potato

        “Sean’s Beef and Guns”

        Why do you hate America?

      • Hyperion

        Indeed.

      • TARDis

I don’t hate America. It’s just Envy. Beef, guns, and a GF.

      • Gustave Lytton

        It’s the corelleware, duh.

      • Sean

        This, all day long. ?

      • Gustave Lytton

Three or four glibs who use the site as a personal venting mechanism

Guilty as charged. Send me down, your honor. I will not apologize for my love of terrible music or my desire to share it with all y’all.

      • Rat on a train

Be grateful there are no Hihnfections.

    • juris imprudent

      Lent is over isn’t it?

      • Hyperion

I fixed that shit long time ago. I bought this new fangled contraption called a lint brush.

      • Chafed

Have you checked the Orthodox calendar?

    • MikeS

I’m sorry. Moving forward I’ll try not to be so judgmental about other people’s terrible taste in music.

      • Mojeaux

No, don’t do that! You’ll have to stop posting and I would miss you!

      • MikeS

        Ha! Touche!

      • MikeS

        *tweaks*

      • Ted S.

At least you’re tweaking and not twerking….

      • Zwak,The Baddest Johnny on the Apple Cart

Isn’t this whole thread about not twirking?

      • rhywun

Does anybody even twork around here?

    • Ted S.

You don’t want to see more of Demi Rose?

      • Hyperion

Wasn’t it Tater who was obsessed with her?

  5. wdalasio

Well, I rarely post Twitter links, even if I do find them amusing. The downside of that in my case is that y’all wind up having to scroll over my deranged walls of word prattlings.

    • KSuellington

You provide top quality comments, please continue doing so.

      • MikeS

        Yeah, I’m gonna second that.

  6. pistoffnick

Twitter does not want me to read the things on twitter (without creating an account and logging in).

    So fuck ’em.

I used to love the tweetstreams of Sal the Agorist, Michael Malice, and AdamantAnarchy.

    • Count Potato

There are ways around that. You can use ublock, or other add-ons depending on which browser you use.

      • Tundra

Yeah, I got kicked off years ago and haven’t logged in since.

You don’t need an account at all. Just clear your cookies frequently.

      • Count Potato

Clearing cookies isn’t enough at this point.

Although, I still haven’t figured out a way to get around the “adult content” crap they’ve been pulling lately.

      • Tundra

I have Brave set to dump everything when I log out. I can’t figure out a workaround for the adult content thing so I move on.

      • Count Potato

My browser does the same, but I still needed to add a script.

    • Chafed

Use incognito mode in Chrome. You can view nearly everything.

  7. Hyperion

I’m a cross thread the post from the dead thread:

“What does Elon’s cryptic tweet from today mean?”

Obvious answer is ‘tonight’. What is he plannig for tonight? Or just smoking a joint because it’s 4/20?

    • MikeS

      “Tender”

      • Hyperion

There’s 7 spaces in that post.

  8. l0b0t

I just caught a 12 hour tweeter suspension because I used an Idiocracy quote to describe my mayor and his claim that one can not tell the difference between a cocaine addict and a cheese addict.

    • Hyperion

If you didn’t get a permaban your first day, you aren’t trying hard enough.

    • rhywun

They hate you. Maybe don’t go back.

      • Hyperion

All current forms of social medis are to be avoided at all cost. That inclues Twatter, Derpbook, and all the rest of them. They are nothing but stupidity magnets.

      • R.J.

        AGREED!
        *Adjusts onion on belt*

      • Count Potato

So tomorrow is Hungarian commie vampire?

      • R.J.

Not sure… been writing a lot, Working too much. I think that is next.

      • Mad Scientist

The only thing most social media is good for is photos of kittens.

  9. The Other Kevin

I’ll be traveling and playing hockey tomorrow. And I’ve never posted a Twitter link. So challenge accepted!

This reminds me of the time we got a bonus at work for doing such a good job working from home during Covid. I had been hired as work from home 5 months earlier. But I graciously accepted that bonus.

    • Count Potato

      Hope you win!

    • Fourscore

I was working for Manpower and the company I was working for wanted me full time. They bought out my contract and my first day as a regular would have been Thursday, Thanksgiving. Anyway, when I got paid I’d been paid for Thanksgiving plus I got a turkey that the other regulars had received before Thanksgiving. I explained to the management that I hadn’t really started full time until after T’giving but they said they’d never had an employee complain about being overpaid and laughed at me.

  10. Hank

Does the ban extend to clickbait?

It seems that a group called Free Speech for People, supported by a writer in the Arizona Republic, wants incumbent Paul Gosar disqualified from the ballot.

“Whether or not Gosar “engaged in insurrection or rebellion”, he certainly gave “aid and comfort” to the rioters who broke into the Capitol to aid him in his attempt to stop Joe Biden from becoming president.”

    https://sports.yahoo.com/constitution-means-anything-rep-paul-202057769.html

    • Ted S.

How many people gave aid and comfort to the insurrectionists peddling the Steele dossier?

  11. The Gunslinger

“I have posted on my dislike of “Twitter Journalism” before.”

Preach. About the only thing I dislike more is government by tweet.

  12. Tundra

I am a rarity in that I find Twitter to be a really useful tool for following people whose work I like. The whining about the comments makes me roll my eyes every time. “OMG, Twitter is SUCH a cesspool!”

Please. If you can’t avoid the idiots, that says more about you than them.

Also I find the medium incredibly fun because certain people (Elon, Malice, Jesse Kelly) have cracked the code and provide genuinely funny insights.

So, needless to say, I’m not feeling the hate.

Happy to oblige, though, and I will not link any Twats tomorrow.

  13. Grumbletarian

Gab links are okay though, right?

  14. Count Potato

“For the entirety of Thursday, April 21st…no Twitter links, references or posting on the site.”*

    *unless you’ve been drinking

    • TARDis

*finally gives in and joins Twitter* Damn you people.

      • Hyperion

I’ll create an account and buy a Tesla and post proof of purchase the day Elon owns it. How’s that for a big fuck you up you ass with a chainsaw to the lefties?

      • TARDis

        We can go together. Fuck.Them.All

Lookie here, I got me one of them Lefty cars. Right here in Georgia.
I was going to buy one in 2020 actually, but hey… Covid Trump Globopedo Biden

      • Hyperion

        I’m in, let’s do it!

I’m dead serious, I told my wife yesterday, next car you own will be a Tesla if Elon succeeds in his hostile takeover of Twitter. Bad part is that then she was on their site shopping SUVs, lol.

      • TARDis

Wut? There’s a Tesla SUV? Not looking. Nope.

      • Hyperion

Oh, hell yes there is! I can’t afford it though, so my SUV will still have to be another make, at this time…

    • Hyperion

      Too late…

    • Hyperion

Yeah, that ain’t going to happen.

  15. cavalier973

What about YouTube links? Are they still okay?

Over the past several days, I have listens to Puzo’s novel “Godfather” on Youtube.

I was trying to find “Wiseguy”, but the only thing available is Hill’s “Goodfellows and Gangsters”.

I also watch a lot of The Critical Drinker, Red Letter Media stuff, Matt Colville…I look up stuff about movies versus books….

Today I discovered a guy who compares history movies to actual history. So far, the most historically accurate movie he has reviewed is “Waterloo” which was made by Russian Soviets—I think that’s what he said. It was financed by the soviets. It stars Christopher Plummer as Wellington. The part of Rod Steiger was played by Napoleon Bonaparte. Here is the video

    • Ted S.

      The part of Rod Steiger

      ROFL!

You think Steiger had a tendency to overact? You should see The Chosen — overacting Steiger versus wooden Robbie Benson.

    • ron73440

I like that guy, he does some really good breakdowns.

He has an irrational hatred of Mel Gibson though.

I know Gibson’s movies are not historically accurate, but he gets into flying spittle mode.

    • Chafed

If you find Wisegut, the TV show, let us know. I loved until Ken Wahl left.

  16. rhywun

Any inefficiencies in American practices likely also exist in other aspects of civil infrastructure, not just freeway construction.

I guess awarding no-bid contracts to your buddies who run criminal-in-all-but-name pubsec union organizations is a kind of “inefficiency”.

I generally like City Journal (when they’re not shilling for war in Europe as in another piece today) but I wish they would take the gloves off a little more often and call out obvious things that are obvious.

    • Chafed

That’s pretty odd for a City Journal article. Steve Malanga regularly rails against public sector unions.

  17. Hank

No great loss, I suppose. Twitter can be good as a meta-source, showing you articles from non-Twitter sites. Indeed, the Tweeting I do is eavesdropping on people linking to decent articles elsewhere.

Or am I protesting too much, like “I just read it for the articles”?

  18. Ted S.

THEREFORE, I am issuing the following challenge:

For the entirety of Thursday, April 21st…no Twitter links, references or posting on the site.

I accept the challenge of Mr. Swissy

        Gay.

      • Hyperion

Wut? You have insulted me! I identify as a Hetero Queer Otherkin! Only address me by my preferred nouns!

      • Aloysious

        She/It?

        So problematic… ?

      • Hyperion

No! I said nouns, not pronouns. That is no longer good enough! Refer to me as Supreme Overlord of the Combined Milky Way/Andromeda Magistrate of the Local Virgo Super Cluster and Hetero Queer Otherkin!

Get it right! Failure will result in death!

      • Mojeaux

        LOL!!!

      • rhywun

        Youtube challenge is tomorrow, right?

      • rhywun

        (or, day after)

      • Hyperion

See, this is the real reason Glibs is being murdered. Your Zoom and yout Twatters, and your Youtube.

This is supposed to be a libertarin blog and forum and a marketplace of ideas, but y’all are distracting from that with your Zooms and other stuff. That and the early trouble when we decided that cancel culture is a good idea and so we banned Eddie and John, and other people.

      • cavalier973

        I miss Eddie.

I thought he left on his own initiative.

I didn’t know that john followed the crowd from TOS.

You know who I thought was a trip on TOS? Palin’s Buttplug.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

John was a grade A asshole, got told multiple times to knock off the personal attacks, and continued to be an asshole. The ban was well earned. As far as I know, Eddie was asked to cool it on some of his bullshit, and he decided to walk instead.

      • Hyperion

He did not leave on his own, he was banned, as far as I know. He seemed to be a gifted writer and good contributor.

Fuck Palin’s Buttplug, dude is a troll and psycopath.

I’m not saying some people do not deserve being banned, but we need to be careful.

I don’t care if John was an asshole and not even a real Glib, he should not have been banned.

      • Hyperion

Trashy, I have to disagree with you here. I cannot even count the times that John and I had it all out, and that goes back to TOS days, mostly because of his neocon warmongering BS, buy I still do not agree, at all, that he sould have been banned. I’d like to see his post that personlly harms any individual on this site? Feelings hurt does not count. He can call me all the foul names he wants and personally insult me and I will still defend his right to speak freely with my very life if necessary.

      • MikeS

The Eddie situation was not so cut and dry. I have a bad memory and it’s all a bit fuzzy now, but I know at the time I was certain he was wronged and deserved to be angry. Let’s not forget how heavy handed some of the moderators were around here in the early days. After an especially tiresome exchange, he apparently lost his shit and really went off (and apparently crossed some lines) in private messages to the founders.

The proof of what I’m saying used to be there for all to read, but as Swiss told me at the time, those comments weren’t deleted, they were put into “moderation”. Am I remembering that correctly, Swiss?

      • trshmnstr the terrible

        RE: Eddie

I can’t find a link to where Swiss explained it, but MS outlined how it was by Eddie’s request that he left.

I may not be able to take a hint but I’m not totally obtuse, so I’m pulling an ‘Eddie’, well maybe not an ‘Eddie’, I’m not going to request that the editors scrub the site of my submissions, and I’m not going to exchange nasty emails with the founders (unless they’re into that kinda thing)

        Link

        RE: john

Glibs is not a free speech absolutist site. If you want that, TOS is a better bet. To quote from the site’s commenting policy:

Welcome to our house! We’re glad you could stop by and hang out. If you want to be invited back, please behave accordingly. Don’t be that guy.

First comment from new posters will be moderated. Following comments will post immediately. Comments with 2 or more links will be held for moderation to help limit spam.

Please: no NSFW images or gifs.

      • Mojeaux

I will say this, from having owned and moderated my share of fora in my day, and looking at Gab.

There should be some controls, because what you have left after the idiots get through with their idiocy is…idiots. A healthy community cannot be maintained when certain boundaries are not adhered to.

What those boundaries are or should be, though… That’s where you have to judge the audience. I think Gab is a great idea—in theory. Unfettered access and ridiculous spoutations. Why, it’s a Hyde Park soapbox! But the crazy runs rampant and new users don’t want to wade through the legit stupidity to find the gems. You think it’s hard on Twitter… Oh honey no.

But too many of our former regulars who helped build the community have left, and that makes me sad.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Gab needs to improve their filters. I got sick of wading through 10 pages of neo-Nazis and 10 pages of former drudge idiots to find a decent comment. As it is, it’s as much of a cess pool as Twitter.

      • rhywun

Nastiness is a big reason I left TOS.

Who wants to read that? I like spirited discussions but not personal attacks.

I’m okay with TPTB moderating that shit out.

      • Gustave Lytton

There was a period of time in the HnR comments where a handful would gang up on someone who wasn’t a linetoer. Not just the leftist trolls but someone who didn’t fully embrace their version of true libertarianism. It wasn’t very welcoming.

      • Brochettaward

It’s funny because that’s basically the exact origin story of the STEVE SMITH thing. A bunch of regulars ganged up a guy who really didn’t do anything because he wasn’t a libertarian. And are still using his name and mocking him years later.

But they never challenged STEVE SMITH to a First Off, so those people are paradigms of virtue.

      • Swiss Servator

Eddie went somewhat insane…he was bombarding TPTB/Founders with deranged personal emails upwards of 55 times an hour. I hope he sought help.

Dumb John (as we labeled him) caused quite a split amongst the Founders by even being allowed in… I prevailed on the Founders, saying that he would either shape up, or turn abusive asshole, despite warnings, and get heaved out. It took him about 4 or 5 days to ignore us and go highly personal on more than one Founder/TPTB. He has no manners, control or filters. I lost a lot of cred letting him in, so screw him in the eyesockets for that.

      • cavalier973

My problem is that I can’t remember if I posted something already.

      • Mojeaux

        OMG ?

      • cavalier973

Watch them in order. The last one has some nice background music.

      • Mojeaux

        You have probably seen this.

      • slumbrew

        That is the greatest video.

      • cavalier973

Heh. I didn’t understand half of what was being said, but the guy does a good performance.

      • Mojeaux

All you really need to know is “cunt punt”.

      • cavalier973

A D&D video, by Matt Colville:

        The sandbox versus the railroad

A story about two games, run by Master DM John, with players Elijah, Shawn, Sean the Wangrod, Vigo, and Andy, with special cameos by Agent Smith and Buster Keaton.

      • Festus

        That was fucking AWESOME!

      • Chafed

What did I just watch? It seems like a commercial but I have no idea what is being sold.

      • cavalier973

I am pretty sure it was anti-trump, by people who make videos. It was in 2016.

      • Chafed

That it was in 2016 is the only part I got. Did that air in Japan or was it only on YouTube?

  19. Hyperion

    I have a new theory.

This may or may not conern you, but I think that it should.

This concerns our own goverment’s recent obession with aliens or UFOs.

What is the reason for this?

Our goverment knows that there are no aliens or at least if there are, the distances between them and us are intraverable.

So, they are setting the stage to blame things they do, on aliens.

If you want to tell me why I am wrong, I am here all week.

    • R.J.

The world needs to know the truth behind SPACE SMITH and Uranus.

      • Mojeaux

        And by truth mean…

      • Swiss Servator

        THERE IS NO SPACE SMITH.

    • Hyperion

“So, they are setting the stage to blame things they do, on aliens.”

I mean Russia!, Trump, Putin, and Climate Change have a shelf life, Aliens do not appear to have one.

    • cavalier973

My personal belief is that there are extraterrestrials, but there are no such things as space aliens.

      • R.J.

        <== points to self

      • R.J.

Would they be space illegal aliens? Or do they get little green men cards?

      • Hyperion

There could be extraterrestrials, but if there are, we are way more than likely in an untraversable situation where we can never meet each other.

That’s just the hard/cold situation. And we can probably never communicate with them either, unless we have some kind of quantum commication, because waves degrade. If anyone disagrees, I’m here listening.

      • rhywun

Yeah, they say that the great size and age of the universe makes it unlikely that two civilizations at similar stages of development would ever even encounter each other before one or the other going extinct.

I’m agnostic about the whole thing.

      • Count Potato

I’m thinking the reason is that they all go “woke” before developing travel beyond the speed of light.

      • The Bearded Hobbit

        + 1/r^3

      • cavalier973

I believe that extraterrestrials are extradimensional beings (if that’s the word I want; maybe “other dimensional” is more accurate). They aren’t arriving by spaceships—it would take too long, and the universe is too big. Space aliens would never even know we were here, even if they did have faster-than-light transportation. Beings slipping in and out of other dimensions, like the “Upside-Down” in “Stranger Things”, makes more sense.

Of course, I am a Christian, so I have that spin on it. “Space aliens” are “demons”, in my opinion.

      • Count Potato

        Some of them are “angels”.

    • rhywun

own goverment’s recent obession with aliens or UFOs.

Been wondering the same. Dunno if it’s a government obsession or a media obsession.

      • R.J.

Silly media obsession I think. There is such a lack of material to cover the real news that now we are down to space aliens and “Them evil libertarians who run the world” again.

      • rhywun

You think? I’ve been feeling lately there’s just “too much” going on. The election, the ‘vid, Biden, it all become enstupidified and then Ukraine came along and ramped everything up to 11.

Either that or the MSM coverage of it all is just so insane. I feel like I need a break soon.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’m barely plugged in at all. It’s so nice. If it wasn’t for a few things linked here and a few memes from my wife, I’d still be wondering why people have blue and yellow ribbons tied to their trees.

      • R.J.

A 24 hour You Tube ban would be so painful.

      • Mojeaux

        We express ourselves through song.

Thank heavens we don’t do interpretive dance.

      • rhywun

        #metoo

      • Gender Traitor

Thank heavens we don’t do interpretive dance.

        Speak for yourself.

      • Mojeaux

I saw a piece on Alvin Ailey on the news. Now I know whom to blame for the “distraught reach”.

      • Gustave Lytton

I’ve noticed the local rags have drastically cut back their actual newsing, and the youngsters now working there just want to do Gawker style stories instead of boring newspaper type ones. And the incentive structure encourages that.

      • Count Potato

Yes, there is a definite lack of gumshoe journalism.

      • Chafed

Sadly, I think it is widespread.

      • cavalier973

All journalism is handled by the CIA now.

        *spooky eyes*

*searches for Twitter thread of every news program in the country saying the exact same thing*

      • R.J.

Yes. I have made a conscious effort to watch the weather channel, or morning cartoons. Anything but the news madness. The past two years really sickened me to news coverage. I just can’t watch anymore.

      • ron73440

If it wasn’t for this site, I wouldn’t know much either, I have definitely decided to follow Mark Twain, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed.”

        I have chosen uninformed.

      • Gender Traitor

        I am??

    • Mojeaux

I generally (used to) love aliens shows and Nostradamus prophecy shows, but they all re-tread the same ground over and over again. If Tsoukalos hasn’t covered it, it ain’t worth covering.

      • Hyperion

        1. There ain’t no fucking aliens.

        2. If there are aliens, they are so far way that it doesn’t matter.

        3. There ain’t no fucking aliens.

      • Mojeaux

Whether they exist or not is not my concern. I’m in it for the brain candy.

      • Hyperion

Yeah, I get it. I grew up in and loved the era of Strartrek. I was litterally glued to the screen for every episode and was glued to the TV for the Apollo Moon Landing. Then I got disillusioned not only because of pathetic loser NASA’s failure to get out of low earth orbit after that, but also I started to understand math enough to understand why Startrek will always remain the realm of SciFi forever.

So if you want to explain go to me why Einstein is wrong, I’m here, but otherwise, there ain’t no fucking aliens, no matter how much I wish it to be so.

      • Grumbletarian

There are aliens, but they’re probably too far away to matter. There are just way too many places in the universe where life, even life as we don’t yet know it, could begin.

      • Not Adahn

        Yes, except no.

Our sun is one of the very earliest of it’s type. If life requires a star of a certain level of stability and longevity, those did exist until recently (for a particular definition of recently)

Likewise, there needs to be a certain number of stellar lifespans for the elements needed to build complex structures to exist. Not only that, some elements require very specific type or stellar progenitors to form (see the rare phosphorous problem for details)

    • trshmnstr the terrible

If you want to tell me why I am wrong, I am here all week.

You can’t fool me! You’re just trying to make the LED thing go away!

      • R.J.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think he is laying groundwork for the arrival of SPACE SMITH….

      • R.J.

How’s your toe anyway? Mine finally stopped hurting about five days after the incident. Bruising is clearing well.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Good to hear that yours is on the mend! Mine is mostly okay. Besides a handful of ibuprofen the first night. I haven’t felt the need to knock down the pain or swelling. I’m a bit gimpy and can’t stay on my feet for more than 10 minutes or so before it starts to get unpleasant to walk, but I was able to get outside and tend the garden without any major issues, so I think I’m on the downslope. I’m gonna make an ortho appointment just in case they need to do anything to make it heal right. No need to create long term issues just because I want to avoid the doctor’s office.

      • R.J.

Nice. Heal up and heal straight! Mine are all kinds of crooked from years of accidents. I keep them hidden.

      • Hyperion

The LED thing is dead, because everyone knows I am right that LEDs are superior to any other man made lighting source. End.of, story.

      • Mad Scientist

That’s silly. Everyone knows the best lighting is done with Tesla coils.

      • Hyperion

OK. Can I get the link to buy some of those?

      • MikeS

The thing you missed, and why the LED thing isn’t dead, is that nobody argued that fact. The question was a matter of economics.

      • cavalier973

We still use firebrands. Except for Ralph, who is a dwarf and has low-light vision.

    • Homple

Probably because the government is now run by nutcases who allow other government employee nutcases off their leashes.

The federal government is fronted my a man who needs a minder in an Easter Bunny costume to keep him from babbling embarrassing nonsense to a reporter at a public function. Interest in UFOs is a small thing compared to this.

  20. JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

Can we at least link to a few tweets about the joys of pineapple on pizza?

    • Shpip

Pineapple? Hell, kiwi fruit or calamari (I don’t know why, but the mohel in town has the most tender calamari rings I’ve ever tried).

  21. Brochettaward

I’m a hardcase. I’m going to ask the question. What the hell is being achieved by asking people not to post Twitter links for one day? The goal is to shame people into changing how they post in general, even though there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s unavoidable. Find me a discussion site where people aren’t sharing Twitter links. It’s part of the internet.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

For once I agree with the Bro. I don’t click on twitter links, youtube (except to the the artist/song), CNN, DU, campusreform, etc, etc. My choice.

    • Hyperion

      Agree, nothing would be achieved.

    • Swiss Servator

Keep up your dependency on the Twitting. Lazy.

      • Brochettaward

It’s comical because I’ve never posted a link to Twitter. I don’t have a Twitter account. I guess the monumental task of scrolling past a link you don’t like is breaking your spirit or something. On the modern internet, people are going to share Twitter links. Especially if your site is highly geared towards politics.

      • Swiss Servator

As I said, lazy. Asshole. Write a thought… Beyond yammering about being first or whatever your silly shtick is.

      • Brochettaward

The last time I shared a thought I was called a piece of garbage because you disagreed with me. It didn’t bother me. I shrugged it off, as I do your pretty regular personal insults. It’s frankly less of a concern to me than you’re consistently lazy intellectual habit of strawmanning any and all positions you disagree with. Reducing them to some caricature of what a person is actually saying.

You come off as an intellectually lazy self-righteous blowhard.

      • Mad Scientist

        Shrugged it off, huh?

      • Swiss Servator

Last time you got into insults, you called one of our female contributors an asshole because of the spelling of her last name.
You are worth very little here, but you are tolerated.
If I was as vindictive as you seem to think, you would be disappeared like an Argentinian Leftist in 1983.

      • Brochettaward

You mean when said “contributor” came at me out of the blue in one of her first few posts here, a habit which she demonstrated on multiple occasions when she went off half-cocked on others who post here, as well? And when you demonstrated one of the many examples of your selective hall monitoring? That would be what and who you’re referring to, right?

      • Swiss Servator

Whatever exists in your fevered imagination. You are consistently rude, boorish and an ass. But you seem ok with that, so rock on.

      • MikeS

Bro. It is time you stopped this silly schtick of yours. Maybe you can think of something way classier, like making fun of a person’s looks who has different politics than you, and then coming up with an entire family of cryptids with the same last name. It’ll be hilarious!

      • Grumbletarian

THIS LACK OF TWITTER LINKS IS TEARING US APART!

      • Brochettaward

That would be bringing true value to the site and the world. I know nothing is more inviting to new users than a decade-and-a-half inside joke about a rapesquatch. Only the classiest people make rape jokes.

      • Swiss Servator

Or an internet shtick from 2004 or so…

      • Festus

        Unfair, Dear Friend.

  22. Mojeaux

OT: I really hate it when doctors dictate while driving. A) Road noise, 2) WTF are you actually concentrating on? Remembering the operation you did 6 hours ago or driving?

    • Chafed

      Neither?

      • Mojeaux

Likely. “Oh, no, officer, I haven’t been drinking. I was dictating an operative report I did 6 hours ago after having worked 37 hours straight without a nap, so that’s totes okay right?”

      • Chafed

That isn’t impaired driving, at least not in any state I know of, but it sure as hell is reckless.

      • Mojeaux

Yeah, that’s what bothers me. On long road trips, my dad would get to talking. And he’d talk. And we’d go slower. And slower. And slower. Because he wasn’t paying attention. Now this drove my mom, who has a lead foot (still does, at 78), batshit crazy. Of course, while she was driving fast, she would be pointing out all the pretty dogwood trees. Yeah, mom. So was that last one and that last one and that last one. He was too slow and distracted. She was too fast and distracted. I always ended up driving because I could listen and chat lightly, but my focus was the road. Also, I drove faster than my mom, but I wasn’t looking at dogwood trees.

Anyway. My cousin’s husband was out early on an icy morning to get cigarettes after he’d spent the night delivering newspapers. He fell asleep and landed in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down.

And on that note, I just did a report of a car v tree at 45 mph. They were speeding along and for some reason, the passenger thought it would be cool to grab the wheel and jerk. Damn near bit his tongue off in the crash and that’s all. Don’t know anything about the driver.

Is it a full moon or something? People be crazy tonight yo.

      • Chafed

        Ain’t that the truth.

      • cavalier973

        Was the passenger vaccinated?

      • Chafed

        Lol

  23. Urthona

Really wanna lost a twitter link now.

    • Swiss Servator

      Feel free to lose them!

    • R.J.

      Did you buy it?

      • trshmnstr the terrible

No, I have enough old books around here. The title amused me, though.

      • Mojeaux

Somebody (on Twitter) linked me to a Google-scanned romance novel from 1897 or something ridiculous. I downloaded it, thinking I didn’t want that author to have died in obscurity.

(Still haven’t read it, but I WILL!!!)

    • MikeS

Serious question: What makes what you just linked to better than the things you complained about upthread?

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I wondered if somebody would notice that…

I’m not posting 10 of them each day ritualistically in every article. That’s the difference.

It doesn’t even hit my radar if somebody (Tundra comes to mind) posts a Twitter link to something that caught his fancy that day. Awesome!

I don’t care if somebody has a beat they post on (like DEG with the NH reopen stuff). Great stuff!

I don’t care if people do pun threads or music threads or movie threads. Fun!

I don’t care if people vent about their personal lives (to an extent). Great community building!

I don’t care about schticks, even if they get old.

The thing that I don’t like is the link farming. The scouring of whatever website they read and the dumping of 3 or 5 or 7 links from that place. It comes in different forms from different people, but it’s just noise for noise’s sake.

I don’t think that everything needs to be high minded philosophy, but I could do with a lot less drudge style link dumps..

      • Mojeaux

I wondered if somebody would notice that…

I did, but you are occasionally mildly (or maybe not so mildly) ribald.

      • MikeS

        Thanks for the clarification.

The scouring of whatever website they read and the dumping of 3 or 5 or 7 links from that place. It comes in different forms from different people, but it’s just noise for noise’s sake.

I don’t think it’s always “noise for noise’s sake”, but I will agree that it happens too often.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’ve probably been too talky on this topic already, but it has been front of mind for me for a while. I took a break from Glibs toward the end of last year to see whether the time investment was providing value, and I came back because of the community. However, the question was never really settled for me. Is the hour or two (on average) a day I spend on glibs a net benefit?

It irks my wife when I spend too much time on here. It impacts my mood somedays. Every few weeks I have an evening like tonight where I’m buried in my phone the whole time, wasting hours away. But, OTOH, the community is deeper and more genuine than I’ve experienced in a long while. When I’m engaged in a conversation here, it’s better than most other places, virtual or real life.

      • MikeS

Preaching to the choir, friend. I left for…6 months? Longer? In the end, the community won me over and I’m back to spending too much time here (should have been to bed an hour ago, but it’s a hum-dinger tonight!)

      • Chafed

        ??

      • Mojeaux

Or you could spent time reading r/AmITheAsshole and find out what an asshole you are NOT. Those people got issues, and I’m a grateful lookie-loo.

      • MikeS

I went there last time you mentioned that. WOW. SMDH. Entertaining, but it makes this place seem like Utopia.

      • Mojeaux

        I am completely addicted.

      • cavalier973

That reminds me. (Boring personal story incoming)

Last year, one night I brought my wife flowers. I cooked a special dinner and even had a special dessert. I had her sit with me and watch a movie (something she rarely gets to do).

A couple of days later, she asked, “Do you know what day Tuesday was?”

        It was her birthday.

I had completely forgotten. She was expecting me to say, “Happy Birthday!” and was confused when I didn’t.

        /endofboringpersonalstory

      • Mojeaux

But points for being an extra-special sweetheart on a day you thought was ordinary.

    • Zwak,The Baddest Johnny on the Apple Cart

More importantly, how did OMWC not get a copy?

  24. cavalier973

I started watching the History Buff on the movie “The Last Samurai”, and he reminded me that it was the US who forced Japan to open back up to the world in 1854. It perturbs me that the US government has always been doing stuff like that. I wonder, if we had left the Japanese alone *then*, would we have had trouble with them 90 years later.

What would the world have been if the FedGov had just stayed within the limits set for it by “the law of the land”?

    • Urthona

Japan’s isolationism was way more dangerous and stupid.

      • Chafed

        How so?

      • cavalier973

For them, certainly. 90 years later they would have had to attack Pearl Harbor with swords and karate. But it was their decision.

We probably could’ve opened up Japan without the US FedGov, if entrepreneurs saw profit potential. Sail within range and toss packets of goods. Include some propaganda about how all this can be yours for a low monthly payment of 1000 yen.

In the Old West, prior to the First War of the Southron Secession, entrepreneurs were able to negotiate passage through the lands of the Blck Feet tribe, who were notoriously grumpy, to get to New Mexico. Their only problem is that one of their entourage was a member of a rival tribe, and he murdered the Black Feet emissary (something like that; I don’t remember he details).

    • Gustave Lytton

No from the shores of Tripoli?

      • Gustave Lytton

        No Monroe Doctrine either.

Wait a sec, why does this sound familiar?

We owe it, therefore, to candor and to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety. With the existing colonies or dependencies of any European power, we have not interfered and shall not interfere. But with the Governments who have declared their independence and maintained it, and whose independence we have, on great consideration and on just principles, acknowledged, we could not view any interposition for the purpose of oppressing them, or controlling in any other manner their destiny, by any European power in any other light than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States.

    • Ted S.

There’s a John Wayne movie about that, The Barbarian and the Geisha. Thankfully Wayne doesn’t play the geisha.

    Counter proposal:

    1) honor Swissy’s request for a Twitter-free Lynx and guest posts tomorrow.

    2) have another Glibs Admin post a Special Twitter Trigger Warning post tomorrow for all the commenters who do enjoy a good round of twittering and the resulting comments.

    3) have yet another Glibs Admin post a Special Quordle post where all y’’all fans can put your scores and thoughts on word validity.

Challenge Question: has a libertarian website jumped the shark when it tries to start controlling content based on pet peeves?

    3) have yet

    • hayeksplosives

      “Have yet” squirrel strikes again!

    • Mad Scientist

It was a request. Not a mandate.

    • Swiss Servator

I simply asked if people could go one day without leaning on Twitter… you appear to have answered.

      • hayeksplosives

Your evaluation of your deductive skills regarding willingness to skip Twitter might be a bit higher than warranted.

I don’t like Twitter links at all; like pistoffnick, I can’t click one on my browser without it immediately requesting me to log in, so I then close the browser window and scroll on.

      • Swiss Servator

“Challenge Question: has a libertarian website jumped the shark when it tries to start controlling content based on pet peeves?”

Sure looks like an accusation of “controlling” content and the site failing. I simply asked if people could go 24 hours without posting a Twit link.

        Was that so hard?

      • Not Adahn

        Am I being detained?

    • cavalier973

Counter-counter proposal, post as many Twitter links as you want, as long as you SF each one.

    • Spudalicious

      Seriously?

      • hayeksplosives

        Of course not!

I’m not serious about anything except maybe the shark-jumping when limits are imposed on comments, and then not very serious anyway.

Post on. Scrolling works marvelously. And people are resilient even when reading things they don’t like.

      • Swiss Servator

        What “limits”?

“Post on. Scrolling works marvelously. And people are resilient even when reading things they don’t like.” Except when I make a simple request for one day without Twitter?

      • hayeksplosives

        Ok, I apologize.

I totally misjudged the mood and intent of your post. I thought you were playfully ribbing (while making a legit point) and inviting more of the usual returned ribbing we have become accustomed to here.

        Mea culpa.

      • Swiss Servator

That did not come across as “ribbing”, combined with Brochettatard’s rubbish, this post went South real quick.

Everyone will do what they want, and I will just step out.

      • hayeksplosives

I assume my apology is not accepted.

I’m gonna assume a cooling off period will help, so good night and farewell, all.

For the record, I did not conspire with Bro about “scrolling” and didn’t even see his comments until Swiss mentioned him (inexplicably) in his final comment to me.

      • Chafed

Easy Swiss. An apology was offered, take the apology in the spirit in which it was intended.

      • Swiss Servator

Chafed, just read the whole thread…between direct insult and passive aggressive accusation, I just wish I had not bothered with this.

Post all the Twits you all want.

  26. Tundra

    Wow.

    This got weird.

I will end with this: I love you all and want nothing but the best for you.

    • Mad Scientist

      Fuck off, Tulpa!

      • Tundra

        Even you, brother.

      • Swiss Servator

I fucking give up…I made a simple request/can you do this request…for 24 fookin’ hours. Somehow the site is folding, I/we are censors, etc.

    • Brochettaward

You deserve a First in your honor, Tundra. It is a very rare thing that a seconder gets a First dedicated to them. You should be honored.

      • Tundra

        I’m not honored.

    • Chafed

That would be perfect. We could use more Denver.

      • MikeS

        100% agreed

  27. Gustave Lytton

Over 300 comments. Pretty good for the last call post.

    Good Morning:
Mojeaux Had a great point upthread about ignoring the stuff here that offends you. I think that’s a great point.
I love the people, their stories, the struggles that we all have with life and families. The dreams, the nightmares. All of you are special to me. You all keep me grounded in this crazy world.

I did not know about discord, i don’t use the forums much, I just look and read and scroll here. I wish i was a better writer so I could contribute as much as others have.

Is this an ultimately doomed website? We need to grow our numbers somehow. When someone leaves, the discussion shrinks….Please stay.

In other news….The sheep that i took to the vet a month ago gave birth to twins. Unfortunately one of her udders is scared and not producing milk. Could be a challenge. To soon to say. The flock is up to 19. Anybody want some lamb?

    • Sean

      Mornin, captain.

      I don’t eat lamb.

    • Tres Cool

Ill tear apart some shawarma or döner.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘bodru, Sean, homey, Stinky, Scruffy, and Yu! (I guess the morning “Reverse Walton” is my shtick/schtick/shtik.) I’m with you – what I like most of all is reading about what’s going on in the lives of the people here, from the triumphant to the tragic (though of course, I hope for as little of that as is humanly possible) to the “trivial.” I put the last in scare quotes because while you may assume others find it mundane, on some level it’s important to you. When I formerly spent more time at Facebook, I would get frustrated with friends – some of them “real life” friends, believe it or not – who seemed to do nothing but “share” others’ FB posts. “I’m here to hear what’s going on with YOU!”

I don’t know how much we really need to grow our numbers. Quality over quantity! ? As long as we have a sufficient base to support the site, I’d hate to risk sacrificing any of the intimacy (no, not THAT kind!) and familiarity we now enjoy.

‘bodru, I hope your ewe – or a “wet nurse” ewe, if necessary – is able to feed both of the lambs and both babies flourish.

      • Festus

I’m right there with you, Red! This place has helped me through some really difficult times. I don’t mind the personal touch and it is probably what makes this site so special. If you don’t like to read woe-is-me comments, nobody is forcing you to do so. I care about everyone here. The trials, tribulations and triumphs are what make this space so special.

      • robodruid

Thanks GT. We isolated the three of them last night in the barn. Cow was acting odd with the babies.

      • Gender Traitor

Has the cow started carrying around signs that say “Eat Mor Muttin”?

      • robodruid

The cow headbutted the mom as the cow stood over the baby lambs.
        It was odd.

Mama sheep made low pitched grunts that i never heard before.

      • Gender Traitor

        Rumble in the barn(yard)! ?

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

      Hubba hubba

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

A pretty comprehensive thread on the problems with Netflix in particular and streaming services in general. I’ll always have Amazon Prime because it’s “free” with the other Amazon services but Hulu’s going to be gone if they ever shed It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I canceled Netflix when they hiked their rates. On demand TV, the new hot thing not too long ago, is just another old thing now.

      • Tres Cool

Has Its Always Sunny done new shows, and have they held up? I enjoy watching the older ones and it seems like HULU* is something Im paying for.

*Jugsy binge-watches shows on many platforms so Im not even sure what we have available at any moment

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The newer stuff is a little hit or miss but still good to me. They did an extremely abbreviated season last year, three or four shows I think, but I haven’t watched those yet.

  34. Scruffy Nerfherder

Don’t any of you proper sleep?

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      people, whatever..

    • Yusef rides a Bike

    • Tres Cool

Some of us work all night and sleep all day.

  35. Festus

I’ll cop to using this site as a sounding board but I won’t apologize for that. My Friends Are Electric. I signed up with twitter to read cool threads but I’ve never made a single comment on the platform. Some of us are lonely souls with no one else to talk to.

    • Tres Cool

Oh, tinkerbelle. You know you always have me.
And when you migrate to the US you can always stay here- up the street @ GT’s house.

      • Gender Traitor

What Tres sai…. Hey! Wait a minute!

      • Tres Cool

I’m just planning ahead. What better way to insure your basement doesn’t flood than moving Festus and Judi into it?

        #GotYourBack

      • UnCivilServant

With their luck of late, that might just trigger the flooding.

      • Festus

        Plague of locusts, more like.

      • Gender Traitor

I’m sure Fes knows his way around a Shop Vac. #busman’s holiday

Good morning, to you, too, U!

      • UnCivilServant

        Morning.

Though I’ve been up since sometime yesterday, and before that I’d been awake a good 24 hours starting tuesday morning. I seriously screwed up my sleep schedule with self-sabotaging behaviour, and I don’t know why I keep doing it.

      • Gender Traitor

        ?

If you don’t mind my asking what you’re doing when you’d do well to be sleeping, are you indulging in marathon gaming? I’m not anything like a gamer, but even I have to fight my tendency to get sucked into obsessive Solitaire sessions.

      • UnCivilServant

Typically, yes. I’d go back to a game I haven’t played in a while and not even bother to lie to myself and say I’ll quit before midnight.

      • Gender Traitor

Well, games CAN help one wind down and/or be decent stress relievers… up to a point… ?

      • UnCivilServant

But causing me to burn one, possibly two sick days because I am having trouble staying awake during work hours like some irresponsible teenager doesn’t help my stress level.

      • rhywun

As I get older and less capable, I find a lot of games just add stress. Maybe why I play them less.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Fes! Sound off all you want, friend!

      • Festus

I really wish that I brought glad tidings to you lot but life seems to be elbowing its way past. I’m ten beers in so everything is amusing to me. I’d take both of those offers up in a heart beat.

      • Festus

I knew you would pick up that slow roller and fire it to first, Friend rhywun! New wave music was hit or miss but some of it was really good.

Rumpke just rumbled through. I neglected to get my recycle out last week on time, so this week they get a double-load. Just like Stormy Daniels.
I swear I could hear the pump straining when they tried to lift my bin.

    • Festus

I will miss the garbage bin at work. Now it’s just me and the bear, head-to-head.

      • Tres Cool

You know who else killed a bear ?

      • Festus

        John Wayne Gacy?

  37. Festus

So far as that Twitter thing goes, you can always tell which way the wind blows. Stop reading stupid threads. I really enjoy some of the stuff there like the architectural ones or Pope’s Daily Ray of Sunshine. There is quality snark to wallow in as well as some lovely. Be discerning. It’s up to you.

    • Festus

So the dealers are trying to kill off the customer base? That would be like selling fishermen boats that dissolve when they hit the water. I don’t understand the business model.

      • Tres Cool

my guess is that by adding additional product to the primary, they’re keeping more of the latter to sell later

However, its likely poor quality control and dosing may be off a touch

Im glad I dont mess with that stuff since I dont have a reputable supply any more. I dont even mess with liquor much since Ive switched to beer!

      • rhywun

Yeah I’ve done some powder but I’m off that and I wouldn’t touch what’s out there now.

Fes raises a good question. Why are so many customers dying?

      • Sean

Why are so many customers dying?

        People are fucking stupid.

    • Festus

That which was presented was seen by a wide audience.

    https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/happy-4-20-floridas-nikki-fried-is-suing-biden-admin-atf-over-4473-marijuana-prohibition/

Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has always been a bit of an enigma in the Sunshine State. She’s the only Democrat elected to statewide office. She’s running for governor against a popular Republican incumbent, Gov. Ron DeSantis, if she can make it through a tight Democratic primary. Her office oversees Florida’s Concealed Weapon and Firearm Licensing program, and she’s a former lobbyist for the cannabis industry and a vocal cannabis advocate.

    PR stunt.
