WOMP, WOMP: CNN terminating its new CNN+ streaming service after twenty-one days.
MORE MEDIA WOMPAGE: “An audio recording obtained by NBC News appears to show that former President Donald Trump’s highly publicized interview with Piers Morgan did not end with Trump storming off the set, as edited promotional video clips suggest.”
SHIT WE ALREADY KNOW: But it’s good to see this getting some traction.
JUSTICE KAVANAUGH – NOT COMPLETELY WORTHLESS: SCOTUS rules 8-1 that Puerto Rico residents not entitled to social security benefits because their tax status is different from the residents of the several states. Consistently libertarian Justice Gorsuch tags in about “shameful, insular” cases which “claim support in academic work of the period, ugly racial stereotypes and the theories of social Darwinists.” We all know how this will be spun.
FINGERS CROSSED FOR OHIO: Democrat lawmakers (credit where due) introduce bill to legalize recreational marijuana, plan ballot initiative if that fails. How much longer will Republicans continue to die on this hill?

ABOUT THAT TWITTER CHALLENGE: Last night Swiss posted a Twitter challenge, which I decided to take. I have been one of the worst offenders about what Warty calls using Twitter links to have secondhand conversations. As Banjos pointed out, linking to Twitter is sometimes unavoidable when sources like Jen Psaki tweet out things that would, in prior days, been handled via traditional news releases. But there’s a big difference between linking to those, and linking to the reax, and even worse the comments, to twitter posts from random wowsers, virtue signalers, and attention whores. My bad. ALSO, some good issues about the general direction of the site were raised. We’re all going through a rough time, but need to keep up the momentum of the site. Thanks to everyone for their feedback and participation. We need content, particularly fiction and op-ed type pieces.
“CNN terminating its new CNN+ streaming service after twenty-one days.”
How is Fox Nation doing?
The irony is CNN+ would have gotten great viewer numbers if their hated nemesis Trump was still around.
Eric Hoffer nods (from the grave).
We need some sort of True Believer charity, like* the Gideons. The JC college instructor who assigned us that probably voted for McGovern.

Dammit, I left the post open in edit mode before taking a nap. I blame the cats. Fixed.
I LOLed at the “Life imitates Kevin Smith film” quip. That’s Fark-worthy.
Black rage!
I remember when DL Hughely (an obnoxious, know-nothing lefty celebrity) called Ben Carson an “angry black man” on his radio show. The most racist political discourse you will hear today is from the left, to state the obvious.
I went to the worst public school in a small north Florida town. 10 years later when I was in the county jail, it felt very familiar.
He is a Black man – he’s a White man in blackface, and a very conservative-minded White man, at that.
love it
Is that what ‘coon’ means? Either this guy is very confused or I am.
He digs through trash?
The left gets triggered hard when members of accredited victim groups go off the reservation. They are called race traitors, gender traitors, etc. Interestingly, conservative homos are also called gender traitors.
Interestingly, conservative homos are also called gender traitors.
That…seems problematic.
Especially since most of the conservative LGBT folks seem to be men, which is the gender that is more conservative to begin with. The implications in calling them gender traitors are quite something.
“Democrat lawmakers (credit where due) introduce bill to legalize recreational marijuana, plan ballot initiative if that fails. How much longer will Republicans continue to die on this hill?”
I think today was the first day in NJ? Anyway, the opposition seems fairly bipartisan. While it’s true that states where it’s legal tend to be blue or bluish, the motives seem to be more taxes and graft. Notice none of these bills simply repeal prohibition.
California’s legalization of cannabis was far from perfect. But they did get a few things right, and that definitely includes the legalization of growing large amounts for personal use. Really what happened was that they set up a crony system that presently exists along with the black (now gray) market. So if you want to go to the delivery services or dispensary and pay taxes you can, and if you want to buy from your dealer you can as well. Those that want to grow it and avoid all that can do so as well. Like I said, far from perfect , but miles closer to a liberty based situation than the states where it is all illegal or only medical use allowed.
I think you’re being generous to how badly CA fucked that up.
I’m comparing California to the other 49 states and the other countries in the world. If you compare it to counties there aren’t many (if any) that have better cannabis laws, and I say that as someone who has lived in the Netherlands. Are there any states that you know of that have significantly better laws in regards to cannabis. Which ones and why exactly? Again, I’m not comparing California to Libertopia, but to the country and world as it exists.
I would say Colorado. They don’t tax and regulate it to death like California. From a freedom perspective that is better. I am short on time, but there have been some great maps lately showing how many states do both medical and recreational vs. just medical. We have now 17 states that do medical and recreational and roughly the same doing just medical.
Yeah, it’s tough to find a good summary of the commercial side, and that’s where CA seems to have screwed the pooch.
I hate imbibing pot, it makes me feel weird and emotional, but I would love to grow it next to my other full sun annuals, like sunflowers, poppies, echinacea, etc. It would make nice potpourri.
The most entertaining part is the name of the bill: Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol.
She’s doing a wonderful job, of course.
Jen Psaki says Biden has FULL CONFIDENCE in Kamala Harris’ ability to deal with the chaos at the southern border.
“He is grateful for her work in doing exactly that.”
Speaking of fiction….
well, they didn’t want her to do anything and she’s done nothing, so she’s done a great job!
The world needs some good attention whores.
I least that’s what I keep telling myself.
We are all whores posting slutty links.
I am the knight who says “Z!”.
Lithuanian politicians have successfully cancelled the letters “Z” and “V”, rendering the symbolic use of both illegal over their links with Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
The letters have been identified as tactical recognitions symbols pertaining to geographical army groups in Russia’s military, rolled out earlier this year in preparation for the invasion. ‘Z’ in particular has become a symbol associated by many with Russian aggression.
Lithuania managed to successfully prohibit the symbolic use of both letters with a vote on Tuesday, which will also see other symbols linked with Russia become illegal for use in the country.
I stand in solidarity with Lithuanians. I also demand a shrubbery.
Next we’re going to have kinetic action phonetics.
“Fightin’ Phonics!”
That’s a great new millenium football team name. “The Fightin’ Phonics!”
Waiting for Doug Mcgregor’s new book “Breaking the Phonetics”.
This is so stupid. Letters are triggering?
The year is 2075. America and Europe have fallen to barbarism and no one quite knows why:
“Grandpa, what are all these funny rectangles with flimsy bits and curious markings on them?”
“AAAAUUUGGGHHHH BURN THEM! They’re witchcraft from the before times! Those markings drove people insane! Now get back to work, we need more crops before the winter comes!”
“And grab the jug of Brawndo — it has what plants crave!”
Rocky V hardest hit.
Elmo Zumwalt hit hardest.
We shall see.
Was this the news from Vilnius?
Whoops, what will they rename the city?
Trilnius, if upthread is correct.
The weird part is that Russian doesn’t have a letter “V”. They have the “V” sound, but use the letter “B”
Russian doesn’t have a Z either. The Z sound is spelled З.
So, in Russia, you’d say THREEDOZ?
Or THREEARDOZ?
What are they going to call Keeev?
Or the President of Ukraine?
What are they going to call Keeev?
I vote “Kiefer,” ’cause he’s still so ?dreamy?.
I guess it was a brilliant move by the Russians to use letters of the Roman alphabet. It would have been so much more difficult for the West to virtue signal by going full retard with Cyrillic letters.
Саша Зверев not hardest hit.
Didn’t the US put a “V” on their tanks in Gulf War parts 1 and 2?
Today in supply chain shenanigans, we have the Honda GX160, possibly the most common single cylinder horizontal engine in the US market. It is ubiquitous on small construction equipment and powers an inordinate number of consumer items like pressure washers.
Current backorders for this staple of the engine market top 4,000 units and lead times are over a year out and climbing.
Things are fucked, who’s kidding who. The question is, what’s the best way to weather the coming hard times? I’ve been aggressively paying down debt, but that might actually be dumb as my debt would have been rendered miniscule by inflation. Also thinking about getting some chickens or ducks or some shit so I can at least always have eggs.
Assets and skills, would be my quick answer.
I’ve been aggressively paying down debt
Great idea . . . . except . . . .
High inflation rewards debtors.
Economic downturn favors savers.
I’ve been hearing the term “debt slavery” in more and more secular circles of late. How many people are completely and totally reamed when they don’t get a paycheck for a month? What about 6 months? Anybody else feel like we’re in late 1928, fingers stuck in ears, willing the economy to hold together?
That is an even more sobering thought than usual. Thanks?
And rewarding debtors creates high inflation.
There’s no way out, there’s no way out, there’s no way out. /leobloom
Assuming income also increases in lockstep. If it doesn’t like stagflation, you’re fucked.
Hopefully it’s because they are working on better mufflers.
This will not end well.
Today I was thinking how, if something happened to my beloved Zippicar, we wouldn’t be able to replace it. Thankfully we have a truck, but disaster is always at the back of my mind, you know?
It’s just about time for me to take my sweet Subie in for the expensive 60K mile maintenance, but the car is paid for. If I could, I’d keep Sinopia Pearl running for the rest of my life.
Just now I learned what “sinopia” is.
The More You Know!™
My idiot CEO said a couple months ago that he made it clear to suppliers that they need to honor delivery commitments. I fell out of my chair laughing. And it’s only gotten worse since.
Wait, we could be done using Honda products for the foreseeable future?
If we cancel the Beatles too, I could be on board with our new proggie overlords.
“But there’s a big difference between linking to those, and linking to the reax, and even worse the comments, to twitter posts from random wowsers, virtue signalers, and attention whores.”
I don’t see how that’s wrong. Much of it is from people who work in journalism.
What if we make a better formatted post here, blockquote the relevant text, etc? Linking a tweet and saying “LOL” is lazy but if you make it so no one has to click through that’s at least more considerate. Also sometimes ya just gotta link a funny meme or video.
I think Twitter is designed to defeat quoting from it.
It wasn’t a ban, just a one day challenge.
I used to be scrupulous about taking screenshots in case those tweets disappeared, as they often did when people got called out on their BS. The past couple of weeks I’ve been too busy to do image-rich posts.
As noted by others, Twitter also does some BS when you link to tweets. The trick is to eliminate the first “?” character, and everything after that in the URL. The “s=xx” parameteris particularly troublesome; that controls how much you’re able to read before it pops up the login screen which disables everything else. Not sure whether the “xx” is the number of seconds or the number of tweets, but if you eliminate that and all the other BS you have a better experience. Also, opening in private browser mode.
This may all change if a certain tech entrepreneur is successful in his bid to buy the company outright.
Most of the stuff after the “?” is tracking shit, same as most other websites.
If you embed the tweet the formatting is done nicely and no one has to click through?
If you embed the tweet it moves the page around as the embedding code starts to load. Obnoxious if you’re in a forum and go to the first unread post. You get sent to the first unread post first, and then, as the embedding starts to load, you get moved progressively up the page.
Thanks. I was aware of the embed option, but I didn’t want to try it here for fear of breaking something. But I think other linkers have used it. It makes Glibs page refreshes funky.
Don’t use embed codes. Frankly I would prefer if people making posts didn’t embed YouTube.
TEST
This causes issues?
I usually do quote when it’s text, but like you say it’s often an image or video.
I got nuthin’ in the tank, sorry.
Offer your opinions on fiction?
If I were reading any, I could do that. I still owe a review on a Stacey Abrams book I bought but haven’t read. Seems technically fine, but the genre is not my cuppa.
Gah! I would hope we like you too much to encourage such madness upon you, Mojo!
Aww, shucks, thanks!
I suppose I should start putting research work in and put together a history of Irish/Scotch whisk(e)y for the few voices who expressed interest.
/looks at weather this weekend.
After getting some bike rides in.
I could make a post about my most recent trip out of the country, or my experience being a delegate at the state LP convention, heavy on photos and light on my dumbass commentary, if I wasn’t drunk during most of my downtime.
Better yet, write it while drunk.
Challenge accepted.
Yes! “Drunken LP Master”
Now I can’t unsee Jackie Chan throwing Led Zeppelin albums at his foes….
Downtime? I thought the whole point of an LP (or any party) convention was to stay drunk the entire time.
I tipped the bartender extra to give me a glass of straight whiskey for the Dave Smith show, blacked out, and somehow came to in my car in the parking lot at like 4am. But yeah, it probably would have made the business meeting less dreary.
We’d be happy to have either one, but my preference would be the LP one.
I have a non-fiction/meta fiction post rattling around the back of my head. This lights fire under tucas.
Kevin Smith film? Well at least he didn’t call him a porch monkey.
I’m taking it back!
Two of the details I love about the movie are Randall wearing “Porch Monkey 4 Life” on the back of his shirt in tape, and a very brief shot of Elias with “Porch Monkey in Training”.

But she is wise, so you are wrong.
Nailed it.
Wise. Latina.

Erm, social security isn’t a welfare program
If you look at the disability portion, you might change your mind. Disability is the new welfare.
Yep, social security disability hit record highs during the Obama economic slowdown. I doubt people get off once they get on. A purposeless life is not a life.
From what I’ve been told, they don’t make it easy to get off it once you’re on.
Exactly. It’s a territory of the United States, not one of the United States. Sad she either doesn’t know the difference or is lying.
She’s not a geographer.
I throw ball far, you want good words, date a languager.
And well past time we invoke the Phillipines option, imho. Go for formal statehood or be granted independence. This perpetual territory crap is ridiculous.
Of course, the older I get the more and more annoyed at TR’s “We should have colonies too!” crap I become. Thanks, yellow journalism and crappy coal bunker stowage.
Sounds like she just said all the territories should be paying federal income tax plus FICA.
I was really, really surprised she bothered adding “in the United States” to that sentence, frankly.
Puerto Rico is not a part of any state, nor a state of it’s own.
And they have repeatedly voted against changing that status.
The tax free goodies are good for the masters.
Sounds like some insurrectionist talk to me.
According to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 72% of Democrats said that “Russia succeeded” in changing the outcome of the election that vaulted former President Donald Trump into the White House.
In findings that largely mirror surveys of Republican doubt of the 2020 election that Democrats mock, more than a majority of liberals told Rasmussen that they feel very strongly that Russia won 2016 for Trump.
“Fears of Russian interference in U.S. politics remain widespread, and Democratic voters overwhelmingly agree with Hillary Clinton that Russia is to blame for her defeat in 2016,” said the analysis of the poll shared with Secrets.
And Democrats largely fear Russia will try again in the fall congressional midterm elections, it added.
“A majority (53%) of Democrats believe it is very likely that Russia will try to interfere in the midterm elections, an opinion shared by 33% of Republicans and 27% of unaffiliated voters,” Rasmussen said.
Democrats are destroying faith in our institutions by questioning elections and are a threat to national security. Did I do that right?
That $100K in ads, half of which was spent after the election, sure was powerful. The Dems should try to hire those perfidious Russkies. Just like that they could get money out of our elections. That’s what they want, isn’t it?
How, exactly? Even if you believe all the accusations… how? A relatively tiny number of Facebook ads? Exposing the DNC’s own emails about how they rigged the primaries to the public?
The narrative requires neither facts nor logic.
Absolutely correct. “We’re going to lose badly in the mid-terms because Republicans are supporting Russia!”
Funny wife asked me earlier when I was Glibbing if I was planning sedition. I corrected her as best I can. “You mean committing sedition by planning/inciting insurrection? No. Snarking is neither.”
Add lying and without proof.
I’m not linking to Twitter here (though probably annoying the shit out of people who don’t like the site), but Gonzalo Lira was mentioned several times in recent Morning Links threads. Well, he went silent last Sunday or so. But yesterday a new Twitter account @Lira01Real showed up, posted a picture of tourist trinkets in Belarus (Lira was last seen in Kharkiv, Ukraine), and made a bunch of posts more or less in his voice (including dead-naming his biggest detractor and using the characteristic term “system pig”) but of course anyone could mimic that. I’m sad for all of the deaths on the both Ukrainian and Russian side, except maybe those who committed war crimes. But there was something oddly personal about a Youtuber whose face and mannerisms you had seen disappearing and knowing that his fate was probably particularly gruesome. I hope he survived and this is really him. By the way, if you want to see another American reporting on the Ukraine situation, check out Patrick Lancaster (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IXYMLbnFcs).
“JUSTICE KAVANAUGH – NOT COMPLETELY WORTHLESS”
Figured Sotomayor would be the dissent. Someone should tell her she’s not up for reelection.
I figure Gorsuch was talking to her in his concurring opinion. They often do that.
Seems legit.
A man is facing a sexual abuse charge after prosecutors say he groped a sleeping woman on a Delta Air Lines flight to Michigan.
The man, Bektash Sefa, told investigators the incident may have been because his hands move uncontrollably while he sleeps, according to a criminal complaint filed on April 12.
As of April 20, a defense attorney was not listed for Sefa.
Sefa was on a Delta flight to Detroit from the Netherlands on Oct. 10, 2021, when a 19-year-old seated next to him said she awoke to him massaging her knee, the complaint said. …
After she woke up two hours into the eight-hour flight to Sefa touching her, the passenger “shifted her body away” from Sefa, but he moved closer to her, according to the court documents.
Sefa then massaged his hand up her leg and touched her thigh, groin area and breast, she told investigators. The 19-year-old then ran to the bathroom to get away and reported the assault to two flight attendants, the complaint said.
Mi Scusi.
That’s worth a fist in the mouth first.
Indeed. I think I’ve told the anecdote of my mom getting her ass grabbed in Italy.
Yeah, surprised that wasn’t her first reaction.
“GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF MY CROTCH!”
blammo, backfist to the face
You have to scream first to make sure everyone knows why you’ve just broken the asshole’s nose.
And given the good Count Potato’s story following, I’m wishing she had screamed and Tyson was in the next row…. If he’s going to pummel a passenger anyway and all….
Nowadays though, I have a vision of some poor innocent schmuck minding his own business being the target of some psycho screaming that and getting unconditional support from everyone else present.
I thought of that while I was typing. It’s a dilemma.
At the very minimum.
Love it. It’s the new excuse for the week. “I can’t control my hands!”
This is close – “I can’t control my fingers, I can’t control my brain”>”
I can’t stop my leg…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsTjAOOIxqQ
I just love how no matter what a woman does when some creep acts out, she’s wrong. The woman who sat frozen while a creep masturbated, then reported him – wrong. This woman, who ran away – wrong. And we’ve seen from TARDis that if she had screamed and back fisted him, she would be wrong.
So fucking tiresome.
Yeah, better to act like Medusa in the tv ad where she turns a guy to stone because he winked at one of her posse.
I think her reaction was completely reasonable. It is a big step to physical violence for anyone.
The news article said he was touching her knees and she told him to stop, but then he got handsier, she told him to stop, and then he doubled down. The first time I can be polite. The second time he gets a fist in the face, but after having been in martial arts for a while, I’d be comfortable doing that.
Both reactions would be reasonable. Not everyone is so comfortable crossing that line, even if they have every reason to do so.

I’m not gonna break the ban but saw a comment that fits…
“If you continue to poke a bear, eventually it will tear your arm off.”
Many years ago I went drinking with my roommate who brought along a friend who happened to be a Niners’ offensive linemen. It blew my mind how people would try to pick fights with him. Most of the guys weren’t even very big. It was like they were trying to see who is the toughest guy in Letterkenny.

Satilites are these things in space…
The United States has announced a new ban on the use of direct-ascent anti-satellite missile testing, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Monday.
Harris, who made the announcement during a speech in front of the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, said the Biden administration is hoping this move will establish “a new international norm for responsible behavior in space” as it calls on others to do the same, according to a statement from the White House.
ASAT tests occur when a missile is launched from Earth or an aircraft at high altitude with the goal of blowing up a satellite.
“The destruction of space objects through direct-ascent ASAT missile testing is reckless and irresponsible,” the statement read. “The long-lived debris created by these tests now threaten satellites and other space objects that are vital to all nations’ security, economic, and scientific interests, and increases risk to astronauts in space. Overall, these tests jeopardize the long-term sustainability of outer space and imperil the exploration and use of space by all nations.”
The high ground has been advantageous since the bronze age. If you want to win you will develop these weapons. That said, the current military buildups, entangling alliances, and trouble in eastern europe has a distinctly summer of 1914 kind of feel.
Yeah — I tend to agree that adding to the crap in LEO isn’t great. But you need a formal treaty for this (and enforcement) not a “We’ll stop and we hope you stop too!” when a lot of our military is tied to satellite capabilities — and our enemies damned well know it. They’d be stupid *not* to develop capabilities to take down our communications and surveillance if they need to, and they’ve been doing just that.
And if we’re not going to include anti-sat capabilities in the Space Force… um, just what exactly is she thinking they’ll be doing in the near term? Trying to invent warp drive? Managing our existing sats and preparing to deny enemy sats in time of war seems to be the very definition of their job and all…
One day I took XX Tax Deduction to a “women in STEM” meet’n’greet and we talked to all sorts of women in male-dominated professions (not just STEM). The most interesting one, I thought, was the one who worked as a road/bridge engineer for MODOT. I asked her if she got shit for being a woman and she said, “No, but I do for being young.”
Anyway.
There were a few girls in law school there. One was specializing in space law. ? I mean, if I’d thought about it long enough, I’d have thought, “Oh, sure. That’ll be necessary.” And then I would’ve thought, “A hundred years from now.”
Heh heh. Tax deduction. I am using that one.
The proliferation of tv/Internet/other private satellites means it’s a thing now. Plus, lasers like those used at large telescopes to deal with atmospheric distortion, can damage planes (blind pilots) and satellites. So, torts abound.

That is, by far, the worst piece of fashion I’ve ever seen.
It’s pronounced she-nis.
What in the eff is that crap?
Reminds me of something I think I saw in a Marylin Manson video.
“Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has requested to meet with investigators about a January 6 rally, but only if he’s granted immunity.
The Infowars host, 48, has sent a letter to convey ‘his desire to speak to federal prosecutors’ about the January 6 rally at the Capitol, according to The New York Times.
Jones, a key player in the pro-Trump Stop the Steal Movement, has reportedly requested an immunity deal with the Justice Department in return for discussing his role.
His lawyer Norm Pattis has continuously said Jones didn’t commit any ‘criminal wrongdoings,’ only chanted 1776 slogans and helped lead the crowd in a march as the Capitol erupted in violence.
‘He distrusts the government,’ Pattis also said.”

You don’t say.
“A key player”. Was he?
Call me when the FBI is being held accountable for plotting to kidnap the governor and entrapping people.
The whole thing is silly. Someone could have just thrown a bucket of water at her.
That’s not how you get a budget increase for your domestic terrorism investigation cell.
It’s also not how you eliminate the political opponents of the party that has basically publicly agreed to continue to let you act like unaccountable maniacs playing cowboys and Indians with real people’s lives.
I want to hear the FBI internal discussions about why they chose to push so hard to get it rolling.

How much longer will Republicans continue to die on this hill?
Depends on the Republicans, and on Democrats too. NH State Republicans are fine with legalizing marijuana. For the last several legislative terms, all Republican controlled except for 2018-2020 term when the Democrats controlled, bills legalizing recreational marijuana have come out of the State House. Some made it through the State Senate, some died in the State Senate. Similar to the House, except for 2018-2020 the last several terms have been under Republican control. All those that made it to the governor (Hassan – Democrat and Sununu – Republican) were vetoed.
Back when the PA legislature was butting heads with the PA governor over his emergency orders, when Wolf said he wanted the legislature to legalize recreational marijuana, I said to folks in the Reopen PA groups I followed that the legislature should tie recreational marijuana legalization with emergency powers reform. Compromise! Lots of Republicans in those groups liked that idea. Unfortunately, in PA you can’t do that. Bills have to be on one topic only.
Eighties dance music is good. And I’m not a Duran Duran fan, but I do like that song.
In other news, I have another update from the Reopen NH telegram channel. The NH Senate passes HB 1495 on party lines. The bill prohibits the state and municipalities from imposing vaccine mandates a la NYC on businesses. The bill heads to the governor’s desk
I’m more of a PSB fan when it comes to the ’80s (well, that and the Keeper of the Seven Keys Parts I and II, but that’s not dance music).
But when it comes to Duran Duran, Rio is fine — but I prefer. Fits this crowd better as well, imho.
Unfortunately, in PA you can’t do that. Bills have to be on one topic only.
Really, this is the best way to legislate. Horse-trading generally tends to create very bad policy.
Rio is brilliant, if only because it’s the first one that came to my attention.
Also 80’s Dance music.

So the Russians are alleging in the UN Security Council that they have evidence of some really nefarious shit that was going down in the Ukraine biolabs.
The most charitable explanation is that the Russians are publicly lying, and the US was funding these labs to do beneficial research that was just cheaper or had less red tape when done abroad. The least charitable is that the US foreign policy establishment are wildly reckless genocidal psychopaths.
(source: https://www.indianpunchline.com/migratory-birds-of-mass-destruction/)
The US was funding bio labs in the Ukraine and the purpose was just to employ and keep happy Russian bioengineers after the cold war so they wouldn’t take their bio weapons making capabilities to other countries, according to reporter Berenson.
Couldn’t we just put them on SSDI and pay them to not work?
Not if they are going to live in Puerto Rico.
I’d believe that. If we just hadn’t gotten over a nearly two-year pandemic that started in a U.S.-funded biological research facility in Wuhan working on gain-of-function research.
Yeah, even if that were the case, the idea of paying to train the makers of biological weapons int he territory of our enemies just doesn’t make sense. Also, cold war ended 30 years ago, all the experts from then have already retired.
This is like sending pension payments to retired enemy soldiers to disincentivize new recruits. You get more of what you pay for.
The least charitable is that the US foreign policy establishment are wildly reckless genocidal psychopaths
These fucks have lied every step of the way, tried every tactic to hide what they are doing, and imposed authoritarianism when they fucked up and let covid out. They get no charity from me.
And they are operating completely out-of-control from any elected official.
I’m pretty sure that promising to stay out of the deep state’s business is one of the very first things that each of the duopoly political parties screens for before they install you in a cushy ornamental congress critter seat.
That and making sure you’ve got dirt in your past which they can use against you to enforce compliance.
Corruption is a pre-requisite. I sure hope nothing ever happens to our wonderful “democracy” that functions so well. Good thing we have corporate media that’s completely in on the corruption to valiantly stand guard and make sure nothing happens to the status quo.
Trump had not taken those vows – which is why they freaked out over his election.
They still disregarded his orders.
???
The charitable explanation doesn’t explain Victoria Nuland’s comments about the risk of lab research falling into Russian hands.
Yep – Half those allegations are already admitted to by Nuland’s testimony and public records. They probably got the rest off of Hillary’s server.
Yeah. I thought it was pretty f**king hilarious being told that saying there were U.S. funded biolabs in the Ukraine was “Russian disinformation” when the source I got that tidbit from was the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
Current backorders for this staple of the engine market top 4,000 units and lead times are over a year out and climbing.
You know, I read bits like that and it’s depressing. It sounds like something out of Atlas Shrugged. Meanwhile, I have no doubt that the government has money in the pipeline to finance solar panels or wind turbines.
I fully expect that the current lockdowns in China to make things worse in about nine to twelve months. People simply don’t understand the lag times involved in high production units like this.
The government can only make it worse unless it steps back, which it won’t do.
No way. All Joe needs to do is appoint a shortages czar to equitably allocate material in the best interests of society as a whole.
The alternator on my Honda failed. It doesn’t have particularly impressive range in hybrid mode. Once battery voltage falls much below 11 volts, you’re done.
I just pulled the alternator off, which has to be done from below. It’s a pain in the ass. Off to o’reilly’s in a little while, I guess.
re: content – My apologies, I told Swiss on da’zooms that I’d have a Glibcrostic soon, but my lap top finally gave up the ghost and I can’t get the puzzle building software to load on my new computer (fuck windows 11), If the nerds down at the nerd store can successfully ‘clone’ my old hard drive I will be able to once again make puzzles that two or three people work.
I appreciate the acrostics. I don’t always have time to do them.
I wish one of the lawyers would ask Johnny Depp “how awesome was the crazy pussy, and was it worth it?”
All the rest is just beating around the bush (phrasing).

Baffling
In its first detailed plan to slow the rise in drug overdose deaths, the Biden administration is emphasizing harm reduction.
That means increasing access to clean needles, fentanyl test strips and naloxone. Clean needles help reduce the spread of disease. Fentanyl test strips enable drug users to check if they are about to consume this powerful opioid that can shut down breathing in seconds. Naloxone is a drug that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.
“The most important action we can take to save lives, right now, is to have naloxone in the hands of everyone who needs it without fear or judgment,” said Dr. Rahul Gupta, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Harm reduction is one of four policies the Biden administration says must be immediately implemented in order to address the record high number of overdose deaths. About 106,854 people died of overdoses over the course of a year ending in November 2021, according to the CDC.
If you really want harm reduction, defund the CDC.
It makes no sense to on the one hand outlaw certain drugs but on the other hand provide tools for the proper use of the same. Pick a lane, government.
I’d say Naloxone is in a different category from the other two.
Can you get the free needles AND free crack pipes or do you have to make a Sophie’s choice? Asking for a friend….who should be back any minute with my heroine and crack.
The crack pipes are only for ‘underserved’ communities. Whites get needles too.
Test strips will be used to ensure that there is fentanyl in the drugs. What year ends in November? Besides a cherry picked one.
ah “Rio” – I remember my grand plans to do a music video to that song in my video productions class in HS . The actual Rio Grande was not far away, so I thought it’d be fun to do something with a friend of mine as the girl by the river. But we didn’t have much, if any, battery capacity so there was no way to do “location” shoots with the school camera. Pity, because I still imagine the shots I had planned when I hear the song.
Yo. I’m not commenting upon anything of substance. I will have to appear in court. Well, that’s bad. But good, I don’t have to say anything. It’s all on my hired help. Maybe twice. Meh.
I get to move, IN THE SAME BUILDING! to my good friend’s place. He’s going away for a week on vacation. Just keep things tidy and I get to live, on my own (ish), in the first building that I lived in Korea. This is a fantastic respite. I’m not unemployed, homeless, and [insert struggle we’re aware of here]…I AM ON VACATION! (That’s kinda true, though I’m not travelling.)
Keep on keepin’ on, d00d.
STAYCATION!
Hitler’s Bday Fun is helping that along nicely…
The big problem with public schools was that they were created mainly because classical liberals thought that in order to have freedom we need an educated non-Catholic population. There was no way state-funded schools would try to get kids to support more government power, right?
Hi L0b0t – replied to your forum comment. Thanks.
Also…can create a forum post about this – but in response to some comments during our last Gourmeltz Glib Meetup….anyone interested in a VA weekend range day sometime this summer? Would love to get together with some of you with more exp than me to go over my different firearms and work on zeroing, etc. I have lots of ammo I can shoot at the moment – and would love the practice – hard to do on a regular basis affordably from my location unfortunately.
I still have some reserve stuff between now and Aug, but only one busy weekend (for now).
Preferably outdoors for the long guns – but understand if weather is an issue.
Thanks.
Yes!!1!
Ok, just set up an initial post in the meetup section.
‘meetup section’? kids these days.

Why was it assumed that social and cultural changes would not affect “the culture of capitalism”?
Don’t see much manning the pumps. What I see is mostly complaining about Right-Wing Culture Warriors and hoping that our elites will voluntarily reduce their own power.

That’s right Chump to Champ for your favorite contrarian. Only 16 players, an average score of 29.4375, more above the Tundra line than below, and our first failure in two days. Not very impressive people. The intrasite squabble that Swiss created has apparently affected the Quordling, it’s a shame but hopefully not an irreconcilable rift in our once happy family.
Ooops. Sorry. Came in right on the “Tundra” line:

This is like when GWB hired Dick Cheney to help him decide who he should pick for Vice President.
You impugn my integrity, Sir.
PistolsShotguns at dawn.I, shamefully, have no content to contribute (unless you really want to hear thoughts on metrics vs. events and why they’re different and why you think you want all the events but, really, you want metrics. Also, why pull is better than push.).
I do, however, have some money.
*submits overdue Glibs tithe*
Looking forward to both articles, friend.
Hearing the spin on CNN+ is that its cause Netflix is tanking and that the market is saturated. Possible and if so, piss poor market analytics went into the launch if that is the case but they didn’t even want to bother stating the people just arent that into CNN anymore.
makes sense. There’s more than enough fiction streaming services already.
Sorry, I’m not that creative, but I did submit Part III of the truck repairs.
Part 1 of a new series submitted.
While I may have returned from Vegas, I’m still attempting to have a life, so as a heads-up, I’ll be out of pocket tomorrow evening to kick off the Zoom. I may be able to drop in after getting home howe’er.
I’m willing to host.
Thanks Tulip, I appreciate it. Friend of mine and his wife have a night off from the kids, so are looking to head out for a bit. The girlfriend likes them, his wife tolerates me, so we should have fun.
Enjoy! We all live vicariously through you and expect to hear about your fun.
Well. I do have some entertaining stories about this trip to Viva.
1) Being surprised by a young cute girl running up to the girlfriend and I to say hello.
2) Almost getting called a racist until someone else stepped in to clarify that I was being correct and non-offensive.
3) A late night at the tables that involved me getting asked to call into an internet radio show.
There’s pictures for the first two…
I just love how no matter what a woman does when some creep acts out, she’s wrong. The woman who sat frozen while a creep masturbated, then reported him – wrong. This woman, who ran away – wrong. And we’ve seen from TARDis that if she had screamed and back fisted him, she would be wrong.
So fucking tiresome.
Honest question: aside from assholes keeping their hands to themselves (or just not being assholes), is there a least worst way to deal with it?
Whip out a phone camera and start video? That should serve as a warning and as a deterrent from further contact while waiting for help to arrive (flight attendant call button in the case above),
I think they dealt with it fine. I’m objecting to the criticism they are receiving here from Monday morning quarterbacks.
Stabbing somebody in the eye with a knitting needle might be gratifying in the moment, but it would probably open a can of worms of its own.
As would back fisting the guy.
Back fist is more of a distraction technique than anything.
I am not trying tobe a Monday morning quarterback.
What I do think is that women should be more willing to fight back. The girl did something. She did good. I said the offense was worth a fist in the face. I wish more women were comfortable with violence. A finger in the eyeball would put a man out of commission.
I said the offense was worth a fist in the face. I wish more women were comfortable with violence. A finger in the eyeball would put a man out of commission.
It’s really risky, though. You get one shot before you get put in the hospital by the now-angry pervert.
/don’t know what the original context is, I’ve only seen this particular thread
Also, many women are socialized from childhood to not make a scene. Thank God I was raised as white trash. When one guy assaulted me in college, I grabbed his balls and twisted hard, then ran. And told EVERYBODY. I had two questionable male friends who very seriously offered to beat the shit out of him. I said no because I didn’t want them in trouble, but I suspect they threatened him because he never came near me again. I say it was a serious offer because I certainly believed they would do it and both eventually went to prison for assault in addition to dealing.
*what? I’ve said before I have terrible taste*
But do you like pimento cheese sandwiches and deviled ham? That is an important white trash food.
She likes piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.
he never came near me again
I think the ball wrenching accomplished that.
My wife has used both approaches. She had a guy at the office pulled out a sculpture of dick and balls fashioned from a nylon stocking. He said “What do you think of this?” She looked him in the eye and said “I didn’t think you had one.” Left and went straight to his boss. He was never seen again.
Then there was the guy who grabbed her ass in the elevator – the elevator was all people working together. She took half a step back, put her spiked heel on the guy’s instep and put all her weight on it. He screamed, she said “Oh, sorry I didn’t know you were there.” The guy limped for days. Never touched her again.
Is ‘reax’ the plural of ‘reee’?
Reax is the gender queer version.
Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week.
When one guy assaulted me in college, I grabbed his balls and twisted hard, then ran. And told EVERYBODY.
Reaching back in time, this was one of the most egregious red flags about that Rolling Stone frat rape story. If that sort of stuff happened on a regular basis, it wouldn’t be a secret. Nobody would go near them.
