Lily re-enacts the Pride Rock scene from The Lion King

I hope you have all recovered from the day after Thursday the 12th.  Unfortunately, MERCURY RETROGRADE continues to be the dominant force this week, doing its thing where it lines up with everything (related fact, no matter which other planet you’re talking about, on average, Mercury is closest to it), bringing chaos.  There will be a moment of Supreme Nonsense sometime between today and Tuesday depending on your exact longitude (check with your local observatory) as the Earth gets pulled between the naughty planet and the Moon.  The week overall is showing signs of disintegration as the conjunction of Venus and Mars moves away from its maximum.  However, this could potentially be seen in a more libertarian way as devolving/diffusing power.  instead of the planets being clustered in the same couple of houses, they’re spread over half the sky this week.  It’s a week hat counsels patience and consistency during a time of extreme lies and misinformation as well as sharp objects hidden where you can’t see them.  Speaking of that, my brother is applying for a job at LEGO in Denmark.  I have a feeling that would be a disaster, but we’ll see.

Daisy begins a wrestling bout

Lots of coins and majors this week.

Taurus:  Temperance – The most boring and goody-two-shoes of all the Major Arcana.  Still a good draw though.

Gemini:  10 of Cups – Contentment, repose of the entire heart; the perfection of that state; also perfection of human love and friendship

Cancer:  Page of Coins reversed – Prodigality, dissipation, liberality, luxury, unfavorable news.

Leo:  2 of Coins – Recreation, news and messages in writing, obstacles, agitation, trouble, embroilment.

Virgo:  Knight of Coins – Utility, serviceableness, interest, responsibility, rectitude.

Libra:  The Moon – Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.

Scorpio:  Page of Wands reversed – Anecdotes, announcements, evil news, indecision, instability.

Sagittarius:  4 of Swords – Vigilance, retreat, solitude, hermit’s repose, exile, tomb.

Capricorn:  Strength – Power, energy, action, courage, magnanimity, complete success, honors.

Aquarius:  The High Priestess reversed – Passion, moral or physical ardor, conceit, surface knowledge.

Pisces:  Ace of Coins reversed – The evil side of wealth, bad intelligence.

Aries:  10 of Coins – Gain, riches, family matters, archives, extraction, the abode of a family.

Three water dogs on this hike.  The three non-water dogs also attending were not in this picture.

My weekly goal is for uneventfulness. Please, no events.

      ^Please this.

Gemini: 10 of Cups – Contentment, repose of the entire heart; the perfection of that state; also perfection of human love and friendship.

I hope this is referring to my morning of youtube bike tuning videos and an attempt at derailleur adjustment to get rid of an infuriating ghost shifting issue. If it persists I am throwing the bike in the river.

    • westernsloper

      PS: Love the Lily pics!

  3. Not Adahn

At the vet’s office to get her rabies vaccine. No idea wtf is taking them so long. Today’s weight: 77#.

From last week: Lily has, in the words of one of the dog park people, “a coat like a Swiffer.” She gets very dirty very quickly, especially since she uses mud and water to cool down.

    • one true athena

Swiffer dog! lol She does seem to love getting filthy. Sorry for you, but great photos

      • Not Adahn

I’ve been taking her swimming daily now that it’s gotten warm and can’t help but notice that my downstairs has a bit of a wet dog smell.

        Welcome to my world.

      She’s just paranoid of Predators.

There will be a moment of Supreme Nonsense sometime between today and Tuesday depending on your exact longitude

OK, can you check on this one? 77° 0’16.11″W

    • Rat on a train

That longitude has more than a moment.

      • westernsloper

        That Longitude is nonsense.

“Virgo: Knight of Coins – Utility, serviceableness, interest, responsibility, rectitude.”
Does this mean my Kia will get fixed tomorrow?

  7. Ozymandias

Libra: The Moon – Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.

Perfect. I’ll probably find out my grandfather was secretly Darth Sidious.

Twice I’ve tried to post a funny story, but the site ate it. It was about someone not knowing the difference between giardia and gonorrhea and warning us against drinking from particular water sources.

    • westernsloper

It was about someone not knowing the difference between giardia and gonorrhea and warning us against drinking from particular water sources.

Well, they were not entirely wrong.

Also: anyone have suggestions for hiking locations?

    Requirements:

-Other humans on the trails must be tolerant of off-leash dogs, even if officially they’re required.
-Trail has to be interesting for the dogs
-Water sources along the route for cooling off/cleaning
    -Not likely to kill me.

So far, all the Lake George mountains seem about the same, so Prospect wins for most fun for the dogs. I have been trying to take longer car rides to get her prepared for this fall, so 2-3 hours out from Saratoga would not be a problem.

Ex is a member of a professional society that has its annual convention off-season at The Sagamore. That place is fantastic but you may have to be a guest to use their island.

I use an app called AllTrails.

It lets you search for specific types of hikes (distance, elevation, dog-friendly, etc) and is really helpful for finding cool hikes. I pay for the pro version, but the free version is great, too.

Look at north Central PA (north of Centre County). There’s the Sproul State Forest, which surrounds the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, the Moshannon State Forest. There’s shit-tons of trails in those forests, if I recall correctly form my college days–many of which are old logging roads, and you may find good for dog hikes. It’s been a long while since I’ve been there, so I can’t say what it’s like now, but depending on where you are in NY, it might not be too far for you.

      • DEG

        Oh yeah.

I didn’t think of it because I think Not Adahn is north of Albany near the Vermont line.

However, there is good hiking in central PA. It’s one place mosquitoes don’t bother me. I’ll add Rothrock State Forest (in Centre County) to the list, though the last time I was through there (maybe five years ago?) the trails needed maintenance.

Ah, Digikey, your siren song of near-infinite parts selection keeps calling to me. Just dropped another hundo+ on parts to rebuild/restore this Philips 10 tube, 6 transistor radio from 1964/65. Shouldn’t take me longer than, oh, I dunno, the rest of my natural life…

…and then I have to give it back to my buddy, from whom it came in the first place.  ?

    • EvilSheldon

Digikey is one of the few things that gives me hope these days.

    • Tres Cool

Thanks for reminding me that I have a Hammarlund sitting here waiting on new caps for the past….far too long.

  11. DEG

Recreation, news and messages in writing, obstacles, agitation, trouble, embroilment.

    Shitty enough.

    • R.J.

Same. All of that happened at once yesterday. Bad camping trip. Details later. Need rest.

      • DEG

        Sorry.

  12. Threedoor

    Lego you say?

The taxes in Denmark sound crushing. Even if the job was amazing I don’t know if it would be worth it.

    • Not Adahn

Yup, he’s currently living in a large house (north of 4000 sq ft) in Tulsa with his brood of three children, their two hundred-pound dogs and whatever other critters the aforementioned kids want to have as pets.

      • Threedoor

Hell have to get used to a shoe box if he gets the job. Good luck moving the animals as well.

      • Not Adahn

Yes, he’s a good man, but a bit of a tard.

      • Threedoor

        Sounds like a kindred spirit.

Sagittarius: 4 of Swords – Vigilance, retreat, solitude, hermit’s repose, exile, tomb.

    That would be me.

(Except for the “tomb” part. Although that would solve a lot of problems.)

  15. The Late P Brooks

Also: anyone have suggestions for hiking locations?

What about Lake Saranac? As I recall, some of my high school friends went camping and canoeing up there.

    • Not Adahn

Looks like some interesting stuff there.

  16. EvilSheldon

I have some great hikihg suggestions in the VA/WV area, which are probably not too much help.

    • Not Adahn

      Not yet.

The tough part is the mix of hikers. I’m doing it for the dogs. A couple of the young ‘uns are doing it because they’re the type of people that enjoy exerting themselves. Three more like hiking and are fine bringing the dogs along.

  17. l0b0t

A job for The LEGO Group would be a dream and a nightmare for me. All of my paycheck would end up being ploughed back into the company, as I have no self-control when it comes to my plastic crack addiction.

  18. l0b0t

Lake George/Bolton Landing has the only seasonal McDonald’s restaurant I’ve ever seen.

  19. Tundra

Lovely pics, as usual. Both Lily and the scenery!

What range is that in the first pic?

Leo: 2 of Coins – Recreation, news and messages in writing, obstacles, agitation, trouble, embroilment.

Bring it. I can handle it!

haha I just heard through the grapevine that LA DA Gascon has sent a letter to staff taking back
“no bail for all non-violent offenders” . Somebody was told some polling!

As nice as Michigan is this time of year, I still feel like a lizard in a terrarium, if I leave the house I’m cold and I’m sick of it.
I start yet another job tomorrow and putting my van in the shop for repair, after that, it’s planning and saving, I’m outta here.

And just because, I applied for the Antarctic gig again, if the covid idiocy is gone I have a good shot.
      HVAC/R in Antarctica, go figure

      • db

That sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to go to Antarctica. I have a pair of work boots that have walked on four continents and I need to add SA, Africa, and Antarctica to get the whole set.
