Shouldn’t that alt-text be reserved for when Ozymandias does the links? ‘)
I think Robot Chicken did Palpatine’s early years just fine in the Star Wars Special III. A tale that some would say was…. unnatural.
Music wise — this calls to me today. Don’t know why… just does.
Will it go back to the days when he was the butler of a notorious British con artist who was ripping off wealthy and corrupt women in the south of France?
I think they might be stretching the Star Wars stuff a bit too much. With Marvel there are hundreds of characters to pull from, but for Star Wars it feels like, “Let’s do a series about the guy who got force choked by Vader that one time.”
Palpatine has a very cool backstory, at least from the (un)canon(ned) books.
And I really want to see the Darth Bane series put to film. Those are my favorite books from the expanded universe.
I don’t trust them to do Bane anything near justice. Same reason I don’t expect the SW:KOTR remake to not screw with the characters and the plot.
Oh my word, I would love a Darth Bane series. I’ve reread his trilogy a few times, and I enjoy it more and more.
I would also like to see a Darth Bane series. I want to see them tackle it along with a host of other great extended universe stories. As soon as they get rid of Kathleen Kennedy so she can’t ruin them.
I want the story of the guy who lost his arm in the Cantina and how he got fired, lost his kids, and became homeless.
Again, Robot Chicken is down the hall and to the left. 😉
Ah… actually available as a clip. Enjoy.
I had no idea that existed, honestly.
The Dragonlance series of books got really bad near the end. At one point there was a whole book written about a character who existed for a couple of pages in one of the early books.
Yup — Chronicles and the Twins trilogy and then they really should have called it. The whole “let’s do a next generation… then let’s kill most of them off in the next book and get rid of most of the magic” didn’t do their universe any favors.
I’ll bet there are fanbois who would watch it.
I never realized that before.
Mind blown.
At least Palpatine has another skill to fall back on in case Emperor-ing goes south on him.
I wonder – if you’ve been a butler, then took up another job, then went back to being a butler, would that be a…
(wait for it)

There is some good streaming stuff on the way. I’m looking forward to the new Mandalorian, and I hear they are making Daredevil season 4. Meanwhile, my youngest is being a jerk and binge watched Stranger Things today while I’m working.
He incorporated a new type of “skip-stop” elevator. These stopped only on every third floor, which both saved room for more units and encouraged a sense of community engagement by forcing residents to interact more.
“forcing residents to interact more”. Go fuck yourself.
Within five years of its launch, Yamasaki was regularly apologizing for his role in the project. Though the final design of the complex differed from his original vision, he came to question the core assumption behind the project: that people’s lives could be effectively engineered through urban design.
And he fucked a bunch of people’s lives over. I think his ancestors had an appropriate way to redeem himself.
And the politicians involved could join him.
Yeah I know, they’re all dead now.
Did they prioritize elderly and disabled residents for floors with elevator service?
A place with children and playgrounds and no bathrooms on the ground floor. Idiot.
I couldn’t force myself to read the entire article; was there some offered reasoning behind that stupid little move?
No, not in the article.
You have to read a linked article to find it, I think. They were part of the design, but cut by the government for cost reasons:
It really highlights the difference between central planning and capitalism. With capitalism, the investors would have included all those things to make the complex more attractive to buyers and renters.
Time to mow the lawn. I’m going to drop this NH link about sign vandalism before I go:
A gun show scheduled to open Saturday in Concord was cleaning up vandalism outside the venue Friday.
The word “murderers” was spray-painted on signs pointing the way to the gun show. The show is being held for the first time in a couple of years because of the pandemic, and it comes just days after 19 children and two teachers were killed in a school shooting in Texas, something the show’s organizer called heartbreaking.
“Murderers”? Did they think it was a pro-choice rally?
Rest assured, the vandal is 100% pro abortion.
Oh joy, HZD may be the most woke videogame ever.
Since this is the (mostly) pop culture links — I finally broke down and did the Paramount trial so I could watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I like the design, I like the characters, but, yeah, only one episode in and the smug wokeness just pervades the joint.
Sorry to hear it. Also not surprised.
Until the current crop of producers go, I’m going to assume anything is of equal quality to Discovery and Picard. So I won’t care.
And even then I’ll be very wary — like just because RTD is coming back to Doctor Who, I don’t think the pressures from the BBC and whatnot that helped lead to the Chibnall crap have gone away — so I’m in no real hurry to move away from my “Capaldi was the last actual Doctor” mode.
I tried Discovery, and it never clicked with me.
I still maintain that Seth McFarlane’s “The Orville,” is the only worthy successor to TOS and “Enterprise.”
Galaxy Quest?
That, too, but I was thinking series, not films. I resisted watching GQ for several years after its release. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a loving parody, which is very difficult to pull off especially given subject matter with a rabid fanbase.
Yeah, G.Q. is outstanding.
It really is.
That’s not right . . . .
Love “The Orville.” I got through two seasons so far.
There’s only been two seasons, the last season drops on June 3rd on Hulu.
The Orville? Talk about smug wokeness. After the 5th lecture or so from that smug piece of shit, I said “fuck this, why am I even watching this?” and quit.
You misspelled Sylvester McCoy.
I enjoyed Picard. Got “TV stupid” a couple of times (the bar scene was total cringe) but overall was pretty interesting. Or maybe I was just high on nostalgia, I don’t know.

Do you not watch The Critical Drinker or Red Letter Media? There was no way it wasn’t going to be woke.
Saint Louis is lucky they got rid of their Pruitt-Igoe. Many cities across the U.S. are still stuck with that shit – hundreds of them in NYC alone which supposedly need “repairs” whose cost jumps billions of dollars every year. They may not be Pruitt-Igoe-level hellscapes yet, but they’re fast approaching it.
I keep thinking of the housing projects in “A Clockwork Orange” (the movie). Non-working elevators, penis graffiti on the murals, etc.
So… a documentary.
All of Kubrick’s films were documentaries.
The newish Judge Dredd film really showed the evolution of public housing. Totally horrible and believable.
Is that the one with the empath/mind reader/whatever?
Yes
Oh, that is good. Maybe it’s on Tubi?
If you just want a good straight forward action movie, then yeah it’s pretty rad. It’s premise is kind of a ripoff of The Raid: Redemption which is an Indonesian action movie you should absolutely go out of your way to see. Top 5 action movie of the last decade. The sequel to that is really good too.
I’ll go look. 87% on RT
If NY keeps depopulating the situation will fix itself.
NYC depopulated far more in the 70s and nothing fixed itself. In fact, everything got worse.
This should help.
How progressive of us.
I had never heard of P-I but the Wiki description was enough. A 3 Stooges production. Government housing starts with the phony premise that people want to live close together.
I started watching Kill la Kill. Entertainingly silly.
I’m back in the house, and home for the long holiday weekend. Therefore, I’ll kick off the Zoom/Happy Hour/Third thing at 20:00 Eastern. I should be around to host tomorrow, and for the long weekend, if there’s interest, I can throw up an Anarchic free for all Zoom for Sunday through Monday.
Man! I am driving to Shreveport with the family, will miss it. Enjoy!
Oh, man. I love Shreveport. SP and I had a great afternoon there once walking around and taking photos. I don’t know what it’s like to live there, but it’s a very photogenic little town!
Thanks, Neph. As to the possibility of a special holiday Zoom, this.
Thank you Neph. I know you had no idea what you were getting into.
A bit off-topic — but didn’t a couple people here endorse The Northman a week or two back? Gave it a shot a couple of nights ago…. “Hamlet on serious LSD” is the best I can say about it. Maybe it is just too “artsy” for my current mood — but I just couldn’t get into it.
I liked it a lot, but parts were weird.
I really did like the Mandalorian. But I think I am done with Disney and I canceled my subscription when I downsized expenses. I put the extra money towards better bourbon.

I’ve been shopping for an accurate AR for a couple of months. Have one backordered but worried it might never show up. Anyhow, last weekend I was in a local shop checking out the Daniel Defense V7 Pro. Very nice but the store had it “marked down” to $2,000. More than I want to spend, and I’d get the MK12 if I did spend that much.
https://danieldefense.com/ddm4-v7pro.html
Turns out that is ONE of the rifles the Texas shooter kid bought when he turned 18. With no optics or sites, no ammo, and 1 mag. Wendy’s must pay really well
He probably didn’t have any other expenses. Seemed not to have a car, either, which would suck up all the money for many at that age.
Seemed not to have a car, either, which would suck up all the money for many at that age.
Well, that and a girlfriend. ;-)
Yeah, I doubt he had one of those either.
Back ordered? Really?
What is it?
Seekins DMR.
Good choice.
Hopefully I can confirm before long.
I’ve been shopping for an accurate AR for a couple of months. Have one backordered but worried it might never show up.
Hang in there. I had a similar experience in 2012. I didn’t feel good about gun control during Obama’s second term and ordered an AR (Colt) on backorder from an online vendor days before the 2012 election. Sandy Hook happened a few weeks later. ARs were gone following the shooting, and if you could find one, it was at least double the markup. It took a few months but the vendor kept their word and shipped the AR to my LGS and charged me the backordered price and not the absurd amount they could get at time.
Tangentially, I also went to the LGS the night before the election and it looked like a hurricane had swept through. Empty shelves, both ammo and firearms. I got the last case of 9mm in the store.
Best salesman the gun industry EVER had.
Though it seems true he had no other expenses, I’m wondering if he just took his mom or someone else’s card. Or paid cash that he stole from one of his relatives. Because the cost doesn’t really seem compatible with his job and the short time-frame with turning 18, getting a credit card of his own, etc.
He also doesn’t seem like the sort of disciplined person who would be good at saving money.
I thought the first Star Wars movie was great, Star Trek TOS was great, the first X-Men movie was very good, the others are OK, WandaVision was a trip, but in general I don’t give a shit about Star Wars, Star Trek, or Marvel.
I still have to see WandaVision.
Elizabeth Olsen gives me tingles in my no-no place.
She’s was the cutest Avenger.
The opening to X-Men 2 was probably one of the best depictions of comic book action to be filmed.
Hmm, internal server error on a Bee link? Is something going on?
Let’s see if it works this time.
The Bee is getting lazy and petulant with the muh roads schtick.
I’m surprised they didn’t work in “AM I BEING DETAINED?” somehow.

Only the truly poor or really rich could afford to stick it in that level of crazy.
Maybe the middle-class can’t afford it, but many would go for it.
Of course I can’t do anything fucking right. I get the stupid shelves assembled and go to move the clean dishes to it, and *Crash!* I knock my nice Japanese bowl on the floor, shattering it. I go to bitch about it on the internet, and now I’m knocking all kinds of shit over.

For me personally, it has been an uneventful week, which, as the Zoomies know, is ideal. The back tire of my car is making a clickin’ noise, though. That might not turn out okay, but that’s a next-week problem.
Happy music.
We did a lot of “What’s that clickin’ noise?” jokes when we first moved to GA,
Potassium iodide arrived today. Bring on the ☢️ ? ? ☠️.
“Convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein is locked in a legal dispute with a young female artist over two crude sketches he made of her posing topless in 2019, DailyMail.com can reveal.
The New York City graffiti artist widely known as ANNA!, who for the first time is agreeing to reveal her true identity as 29-year-old Anna Barratt, is attempting to sell the two sketches as non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.
Barratt, who first met Weinstein through an art gallerist after he had been charged with sex crimes, declined to accuse him outright of sexual misconduct in an essay on her website and an interview with DailyMail.com.
After selling Weinstein three works for $5,000, Barratt says that she initially came up with the idea to pose topless for the disgraced movie mogul in a photo shoot with a disposable camera.
She said that he made the sketches and gave them to her during an ‘impromptu rehearsal’ for the proposed photo session, which never ultimately occurred.
Now, Weinstein’s attorneys are trying to block Barratt from selling the two sketches on the NFT auction site OpenSea, filing a complaint with the company insisting that as the artist of the two rough figure drawings, he is the copyright holder — and noting that he wrote ‘not to be reproduced’ on the sketches.”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10850583/Female-graffiti-artist-auctions-two-topless-sketches-herself.html
She looks more like a model than an artist.
I’m putting some of my art on Instagram, and I’ve realized the top “artists” posts are of hot 20-something women who pose in front of their work. Picture the Chive with a painting. I joked that I should hire a hot model to pose with my work and pretend to be me. Maybe someone actually did that.
Don’t be scared, pose topless yourself.
Yeah, there’s a model on the ‘Gram goes by the moniker “dani_vinci” who shows off some of her work from time-to-time and herself a lot more of the time. TBF, she does have talent, but the first picture she worked rather endlessly on for her ‘Gram audience was of herself in a plunging top, which led to the inevitable cries of narcissism. (Not to mention that I thought she simply overworked the painting, in the same way that some people can never stop with the Photoshop tweaks.)
Which, also TBF, has a good chance of being true, from what I’ve seen of her other posts. Her work life as a medical technologist is damn near invisible in contrast.
Garden report: tomatoes and peppers are thriving. Pods are appearing on the pea plants, beans are blooming.
Pods are appearing…
Pods, you say?
REEEEEE!
Soon
If you are growing nightshades, and beans and peas, unless the peas aren’t getting full sun, I would swap places next year.
My cucumbers have itsy-bitsy cucumbers on them, about the size of my littlests fingernail. Which is funny because I know I’ll eventually find one the size of a toaster that somehow I missed.
Also I repotted all the babies from my potbound succulent, so now I have eight succulents. We’ll see how many survive.
I just got my cabbage, peppers and tomatoes in and a few root things.
The mosquitoes and black flies are the worst that I can remember. I don’t like using OFF but tomorrow I will.
More to plant, about 1/3 done.
If DEET hurt you, I’d be dead many times over.
I wanna grow some tomatos. Easiest method?
The back tire of my car is making a clickin’ noise, though.
Roofing nail?
Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing. Let’s hope it’s the nail.
Wheel bearings tend to hum when they are going bad.
Clicking at the rear tire screams something stuck in the tire, screw, nail, or pebble in the tread. Also possible would be a bad CV joint if it is a rear or all wheel drive.
I was thinking “construction screw,” so mebbe.
Some good quotes in the FEE article
Went to Cabelas for the first time in years. Wow. Feels almost like a completely different store. Gun cases were nearly completely full, and not just junk guns. Every handgun now has a trigger guard on it. And the clerk leaves it on when they hand it to you to “try”. Yeah, can get a real feel for the grip with a blob over the booger hook. Not to mention no way to see what the trigger itself is like. Almost bought a 642LS just the same.
I understand that over at the LP convention, the “Mises” gang got 61% of the delegates to oust the chair of the party. They needed 67% but appear to have seized control of the convention. Some see Mises as returning the party to that old time libertarianism (tossing out the wokeness) and others think Mises is a plot by the GOP to gut the LP. Many observers, however, don’t think it matters a pinch of owl dung who controls the LP at this point.
Many observers, however, don’t think it matters a pinch of owl dung who controls the LP at this point.
*points thumbs at self*
libertarianism is the means to an end. Pretending that it is an end in and of itself is folly.

Andrea??
It is finally spring/summer here in the land of permawinter, so I will be bowing out early to go drink on the patio. Last call for Quordle.
So fifty-ish?
Haha. Not too long ago, yes. A week ago our high was 31 degrees below normal and we had freeze warnings two nights. Today: 81 and sun with only a light breeze. (Rain forecasted for the rest of the weekend)
Heat was on last week, and earlier this week after a weekend where it supposedly brushed against 90 here. We’re getting the rain out of the way today, and it’s supposed to be clear the rest of the weekend. Current plans are a rib cook off tomorrow, patio drinks with an old friend of mine Sunday, and a long bike ride on Monday.
73 degrees (‘Murican degrees, not Commie-Eurodouche degrees) and sunny here in the Great Land at the moment.
Skeeters and black flies a problem? We’re overwhelmed this year, been a cold and wet spring. The good news is there aren’t any deer flies (yet). Today was a warm day, first one, maybe 75.

I recall one wonderful episode wherein Fred discovers Lamont has given Julio a ride and he complains “Lamont! You done got Puerto Rican all over the truck!”
I watched S & S with my kids growing up. my daughter was too young to understand some of it but she understood the situations. My son was a young teenager and was learning the nuances so he learned a lot from the show.

Tough day. A 21 is enough to win?! Yikes. The Tundra-Line ratio was 7/14. The average score (37.4) was lower than yesterday when TARDis scored a 309. (3 chumps and 4 fewer players will do that
ScienceMath!!11!). Quordlemetrics: 1 0 2 10 (2). Scrabble: 38No-Chump Streak news: Sean keeps extending his streak; it’s up to 45 now. Grumbeltarian had a nice streak of 27 end today. Including Sean, there are now three players over 30 days, and seven at 19 days or longer. 17 players reported scores every day this week.
We gained a player (Give a hearty “Quello” to robc!) this week. Speaking of (sorta) newbies, Mojeaux finished the week with a pathetic/impressive average of 90. But if you throw out the four busts, she’s got an average of 19.3. I see great potential!
There are a couple regulars that haven’t posted scores yet. Please post them when you can (or don’t) and I’ll get you added to “The Spreadsheet”. Sorry for the earlier than normal DQR™©®, but I have sun and alcohol to absorb.

In Tournament news (Since MikeS is

Rep. Melissa Blasek comments. She was instrumental in the push back against the Lil Rona Panic measures.
Y’all have a hell of a gubmint up there, no doubt.
The most frustrating thing is that, when the next NH gubernatorial election rolls around, it will be a decision between Sunnunnunnunuu and a dude(tte) who loudly proclaims that Stalin had some good ideas and also we need to mandate butt masks.
“Get rid of Sunnunu in the primaries” won’t work, because the field will be split among 28 candidates, and the most viable of these alternate candidates will eventually be revealed to have had a carnal intimate relationship with his cat.

I’m very happy that Glibs is back online. This week has indeed been challenging, and I didn’t realize how much my emotional health needed this place as a touchstone until it was unavailable or un-updated.
I am a naturally happy person. But this week beat me up. It was a combination of SP’s passing, having to drive to San Diego for my husband’s friend’s birthday and back (during which the verbal abuse was devastating but I had no choice but to keep driving), the Texas school shooting, and Mark Steyn’s coverage of Davos.
What a broken world.
Thank you , whoever is keeping the lights on at Glibs.

Nope. Beats the alternative I guess.
